01 Welcome back to the nullified take where we've got the tnt takes for you on the amazing race 33 i'm joined as always by my co-host michelle and we've got a great special guest here dusty harris from the amazing race 33 dusty so grateful for you that you jumped on this podcast how are you doing i'm doing fantastic guys and i it's just such an honor to be on your guys's podcast thank you for having me the honor is out all ours we do nothing we are the armchair critics that sit back every week and we say we would have done this why did dusty not see the coin underneath the rock you know we would have obviously gotten it within like two minutes yeah funny you know everyone else probably watching would have gotten a little quicker than me i have no doubt about that now dusty tell us how did you get into this crazy world of the amazing race like did you know about the show beforehand who was approached first was it you or ryan how did you get on this so i'm very blessed to be best buddies with ryan ferguson and so the amazing race if i mean everyone knows this cast that they put together for season 33 is something of lore everyone has a story and so ryan actually was approached by the amazing race to participate in season 33 and originally he was going to do it with his father bill who i just want to give a shout out
21 To is legitly superman like people talk about superheroes bill ferguson is a superhero watch the documentary dream killer everyone bill had a i think is a hip injury and he had to have surgery and so it kind of took bill off of the plate and so luckily i was asked by ryan to be his partner i'm going to be honest with you when he first asked me i thought he was kidding i'm like what do you want to do you want you need me to take a month's workout for what and he just kept pressing and pressing and then finally he admits that it's for the amazing race and so i told him basically this is a no-brainer yeah and you know productions asked me about work all these kind of things i was like quit my job if this is real and we have a chance to go run around the world i can make up time with my best buddy simia and so that's kind of how we were presented the opportunity for the amazing race it was i'm blessed to be ryan buddy to be honest with you that's awesome that's such a cool story how long have you known ryan because obviously the whole story was that you and ryan were friends and you were one of the few people who didn't turn your back on him during that tough time in this year in his life where he had to go to jail for 10 years for something he didn't do you know how long did you know him was it i assume prior to that did you guys go to college together or something so we were best buddies in high school ryan and i am i met him i think it was at the end
41 Of eighth grade he transferred from one school to the other and he's a year younger than me but he always seemed to work his way into my group of friends and he just kind of stuck and he was always you know he's exactly the same person in high school as he is like post it below that's what's so impressive about ryan ferguson like you put me in prison for 10 years i'm going to come out institutionalized and not a good person i don't think and so knew him through high school and unfortunately you know the incarceration happened when he was 19 i was in college and he had just started college in kansas city missouri i was in fulton missouri and that's when the news broke my phone just started erupting and i'm like what in the hell is happening and so i finally answer one of these phone calls and everyone's like turn the news on and lo and behold in central missouri on every single channel was the story of what happened and so kind of a mind blown thing when you're 19 years old 20 years old and you see on the news that your best friend that you've grown up with since eighth grade you know is convicted of murder and you know the first thing in my head's like there is absolutely no in hell that this guy murdered anybody and so we've been friends for a long time and it just was unfortunate that 10 years and honestly the best 10 years 19 to 29 in our lives yeah be honest that's when like things happen you travel the world do the things that we just got to do figure out you know who are you going to marry are you going to
01 Start a family and so the amazing race saved our lives and like our friendship in my opinion it's you know we were close but after a month like damn i didn't think we could get any closer and we are because i was going to ask you know you don't see someone for that long they i agree with you i moved so i'm from south africa originally and i moved to new zealand when i was 21 and i had pretty much all of my 20s growing up in new zealand so whenever i go back to south africa now people always say to me you're so kiwi you're so international you're so different from the rest of us in south africa because your twenties i feel like shapes you as a man especially you know so how long did it take you to adjust and you know when you met ryan outside of you know present i guess when he came out like how strange was that and how long did it take for you guys to just gel and pick up where things have left off because you would have had such a growth in your own life and he would have had a growth in his own life during that time as well was that quite difficult you know that it is a great question chris i'll never forget the first time i saw him a good friend of ours ryan and i mutual friends name's ben he picked me up to go meet ryan and we actually were going to jeff city to the capitol this is where ryan was convicted basically to go do some food service things with my friend and i'll tell you that like the second i saw him it was seamless it was like a
21 Day hadn't passed and i think normally in this situation like a human being would change in the situation that he went through but i just felt like i'm like man you are literally the same human being that the last day i saw you before you were incarcerated till now i it's and that's you know i think that's just a test a testament to like the friendship of the people that i grew up with not even ryan but just all of us even ben would say this it was i felt like no time went by at all there was this weird feeling of like man i haven't seen you in 10 years you've been through god knows what but he's just so calm cool collect and i think that reflects on the show we don't need you know i don't need to elaborate on the guy is just he's made of stone it was seamless and it honestly i felt like i saw him the day before i can't explain that but truly that's how i felt when we were with each other was like we had coffee in the morning yesterday i expected something completely different and what i got was mind-blowing i mean in my opinion and it's just a testament to what he means to me and i think to a lot of people and you know i hope i mean as much to him as you know he does to me i think the fact that you stood by him a lot of fans and michelle can talk to that because she's really on the pulse of the fans when it comes to the facebook group and a lot more on social media than myself but a lot of fans really appreciated the fact that you stood
41 By him for that long and it was quite confusing for us a few times when you were portrayed as this jock or meat head celebrating out of your mind and michelle and i would have conversation we're like but this guy's a great guy and i can relate to it because listen dusty if me and you if we were in a team we would have gone absolutely insane because i'm always at 200 michelle is the ying to my yang she keeps me calm you know so you need that calm person and then the person that's got the energy and the passion to push forward but michelle you would be a lot closer to the fans and in regards to how dusty was perceived but am i correct it looked pretty positive to me from what i've seen it was it was very positive i know a couple of times when dusty went absolutely insane at the end of you know when at the mat some of them were saying oh my god he's a bit over the top and i'm like no this is this is how you would be if you get there and you're still in the race you'd be really excited and i mean that's how i would be being a super fan and you know i watched the show on television and i you know when it finished kim and pin one i was crying i don't even know kim and pen before this show began but just the whole idea that people get to live out their dream and do this amazing thing and if you're excited be excited i want to see that yeah i love the pedal i love the passion so much like as
01 I've i know like people would look at me exactly the same i would lose my head you know that challenge where you guys came from behind you were you were that whole leg you were behind i could understand the passion that you had and the funniest thing of all is you now have a podcast with kayla and kayla was portrayed as this person who really couldn't stand your guts on the show how did that happen so you know ryan and i spoke extensively about doing a podcast but he is doing great things for his cause with it's called prison count so guys if you're not watching that check it out it is the best in the business for anything in that realm of podcasting so it kind of left me catching grenades in the trenches and so this cast i mean everyone kind of knows it and i've read the route you know the reviews and like posts and things like we're very close we had a 19-month hiatus when the bell rings we want to kill each other don't get it wrong or twisted or anything like that it's war but it's just an unprecedented thing that we went through and so kayla and i feel like we're very similar in some ways but she's more of the ryan and raquel is more of the dusty on her team and it just we just started talking and i was like you know if i want to you know share my experience with someone that can balance me out if raquel and i would have done who just been
21 Savage the whole time and so in this process of doing this with her i mean kayla has become a sister to me and i love all of this cast more than anything in the world but what a joyous thing to do with someone that you competed with the whole season to the finale to have an opportunity to share our experiences trade barbs it's really brilliant to watch it too and all the smack talking that's going on you know we all think everything's good kosher and some of my fears became reality re-watching this if we didn't remember to present itself they were gonna lay it on us i know it they won't say it but oh boy it's coming how did you did you like the way you were portrayed you know yes i can't take anything away from the amazing race for cbs on how they portrayed us i'm going to be completely honest with you guys the episode in greece leave no stone unturned i had dreaded since the day we flew home things got dark for me i've worked very hard on trying to better myself and i was very close to not doing what i wanted to do with my life and this and so overall yes and i mean like that episode it changed my life the outpouring of support that people have sent me and everything i was so embarrassed and
41 Ashamed and like oh my god not at all it was just so ridiculously hard i wasn't even thinking of you in any bad light at all i'm thinking god i'd probably be throwing those damn rocks because it was just ridiculous and then they showed you know where you were in relation to the coins and i'm like oh my god this is like a nightmare and there's so many rocks in that woman's there you know so come and i'm like you look like the woman from ghostbusters if you if you remember and i'm like oh my god you look evil i was ready for a hound to come eat me at that point like whatever you guys keep me out of my misery but that's a testament to ryan i'm below in gaskets and calm cool collected come on up here buddy and let's have a chat and you need that everyone always asks about the amazing race what does it take to be successful i you know you can learn how to drive a stick walk around with a wine bottle on your head but if you don't know how to communicate with your partner and if you don't have a partner that compliments your weaknesses you're going to be in trouble i mean there's no question you're going to need a life in the amazing race and so it's just a testament to ryan everything i went through it was a life-changing experience for me and i know a lot of people do these things and it's like reality tv and i told all of production
01 At the end i it was 37 and a half years of therapy that came out of me i've never spoken like that i'm not an emotional guy i'm not vulnerable and it i couldn't believe it happened and you know a crazy thing that happened is i looked over at ryan and you know phil asked him on the mat and this was an error he was like what are your thoughts on this and he goes i did i brought him because i knew this would happen that's amazing he knew i needed like i don't know if that'll ever be spoken about or anything but like he saved my life in a way he'll never know with a new son and just everything i've been through and man i love the guy and there's no one else i'd go battle with you know kayla and i have talked about if god forbid we had to go with someone else would be us but you'd be hard-pressed to give me to do with that ryan yeah i know i definitely like i mean one of the obvious questions to ask and it's sort of after this whole experience that you've gone through i actually want to i want to ask this question but i want to ask another question so i'm going to go first with what you've just mentioned and that this has been such a life-changing experience for you and what do you think makes the amazing race and experience that sort of takes you on this journey out there and really makes you reflect on your life and where you're at and where you want to go what do you think sort of made you go to that heat space when you said you've never been able to do that in real life prior to that
21 What is it that makes the amazing race so special yes it's an amazing question chris and honestly i've tried to explain it like i remember getting home and like i compartmentalized the rock challenge to get through you know it's like you gotta race again just get rid of it and i'll never forget when i got home i sat down on the couch and looked at my wife and i just burst into tears because the first thing i thought was leave no stone unturned what the amazing race provides to people is it's the highest of highs and it's the lowest of lows i mean when you're winning i'm a very emotional guy everyone saw it those screams and everything that come out of me it's not for victory it's more of relief to be honest with you it's like we're here we both put so much work into doing this like i didn't come on this to just be average the money didn't really mean anything to me i wanted that belt i wanted to be a champion and so what the amazing race can do for you if you want it to it's going to open pandora's box in her head there's a lot of time to sit and think reflect and worry and spending time with someone that did 10 years incarcerated wrongly it was very eye-opening and i don't know if anyone else would have that experience with someone like him but like for me i'm not good at sitting alone being quiet and getting into my thoughts and so really what's
42 Going to happen on the amazing race is you're going to be punished you're going to have the highest of highs and feel like you're winning but also you're going to be pushed to limits that you've never ever dreamt of having and i know like we just talked about there's a lot of couch warriors out there that think turning rocks this and that or whatever i'm telling you we're all tying your shoes on camera it's hard like i mean it goes from a one to a million in pressure when a camera's on you know the world's gonna see it and you have you know you're relying on your buddy and your buddies relying on you to get this done and so it is a pressure cooker with the highest supplies and lowest of lows i mean it's the best way to put it you're going to feel the biggest victories and the hardest defeats you've ever felt in your entire life yeah hallelujah they're in the chat here as well welcome to the live stream as well yeah so it's interesting because i kind of dived into this a little bit with kayla in the previous interview where she said this race was unlike any other because there was so much downtime in between legs so i'm assuming a lot of that conversation that you had with ryan happened in between legs when you guys were just quarantining and getting ready for the next leg i mean you've got nothing else but to talk you don't have your normal distractions in life like your phone or social media i'm assuming like you would normally have so you really can only connect with the person that you're racing with so that's probably
02 What you're talking about when you're saying this is where you had that time to spend with someone that was wrongfully convicted and it makes you look at your own life and appreciate it in a completely different way i do want to ask and i think this is a straightforward question that you'll probably be able to answer pretty easily because you always want to ask people when they come off these shows you know what's happening for dusty nicks are you still open to reality tv do you want to do more would you know you mentioned you would go back to the amazing race i know some of your former cast mates might be there might be some speculations that they're on the next challenge cbs but we won't go into that i would don't want to put you on the spot i could imagine dusty on that though hey guys i'm ready to go snatch lunch on the challenge cbs sign me up two i'm ready but to get into it yes ryan and i our bags are packed guys yeah to get to the finale it was part of the goal but our goal was not to just get there it was to win and i have a this burning void and i'm speaking for ryan and i both that we are haunted by the number 1025 in elevators because if we would have just remotely won that properly we would have won season 33 of the amazing race and so we know we are good enough to compete i know our last performance is getting third so many times
22 And me choking in the rocks doesn't show it but guys with a 15-minute delay behind penn kim raquel and kayla it's hard to make up 15 minutes and the numbers didn't lie we would run as fast or faster than both of them it was just not fast enough to make up 15 minutes and so yes we're ready to go if someone falls out of season 34 and you need fill-ins call us we're ready it's my number one objective is to either know i can win it or god forbid we lose again i know i gave it all i could at least two times but i'm there's a burning hole in my chest yes i need i need another shot i totally understand that because i've done a sydney race i've done it like 10 times it's once a year and you do the amazing race around sydney basically and it takes six hours and three times i've come second so this is like it's driving me crazy because i can't first so i understand yeah it's that competitive drive i can fully appreciate that as well and i'm quite interested dusty you guys had a very unique scenario this season where the race started then it stopped you went away for quite a long time and then came back you know looking at those first legs you guys did extremely well so you could have been forgiven to say listen we've got this in the back
42 We know what we're doing but what did you guys work on coming back to the race i'm assuming there were things you guys talked about and said hey we need to improve on these things because we've got an opportunity that other races in the past have not had so ryan and i immediately when we went home it's funny you know we have no idea even what really covets is at this point you know you don't have any communication with the outside world so we get home we're like oh damn there's really a pandemic both of our thoughts were in a couple weeks they're gonna do a two week shutdown we'll be right back so what can we do to cram in basically it was all mental right out of the gate and then after two weeks we realized okay this could take a while and then you know you get six months in a year in i mainly focused on so i had a child between the first run and the second run and i'd lost my father and my grandfather to heart problems and so i felt like i was in good shape the first time being on the show but if you look i lost 25 pounds from the first run the first three episodes of the second and so i wanted to be more physical and you know be able to withstand the demands of the race because it is exhausting it's go but the monkey wrench when you come back battling in kobe and i believe you just said kayla elaborated on it's not race rest next day go it's multiple days due to testing due to waiting for tests and
03 I just don't like mentally preparing i think the teams that did more of that probably would do better on the second run through we did a lot of like walking around bottles in our heads i watched all will and james's videos i was like if they can win and i need to do what they do had the flag wall country walls you name it i just tried to be a student of the game and ryan did as well and we would just share notes daily and then once we got the call knowing that we were actually coming back i basically took off work for two months like literally worked out and just trained for the amazing race while i ran my bed and breakfast and so the work was everything you can imagine physically we wanted to get better mentally it was puzzles you na every i have 25 apps on my phone right now from puzzles but what can you do to really get good at this i mean you like i didn't know you should be able to flip over stones i probably should have downloaded that apparently or making changes i guess i think that's what it's a challenge ryan that was good at cheese i've run restaurants and worked in them what happened the burners we were in the woods on a bunsen burner i couldn't control it and i had a couple too many red bulls in the morning and just i felt that ryan washington i was like this guy i'm like why did you invite me again but it was me i lured him into
23 This i lured lulu and lala into it they were like oh if he has it you know we'll roll with it and then lulu and la are just a little more patient and she's a little more loved than dusty and ryan did so i think it was fortunate that the other challenge finished where you were so you could tell where you were and then you could just leave if you needed to because if they weren't there then you probably wouldn't have quit when you when you did it was a scary conversation i was like ryan this cheese takes 30 minutes to heat up and man i'm so blessed it was right there and the crazy thing is we watched pin and kim walk right by you know they do it immediately raquel and kayla are right after them and they start after us and the whole time we're like should we switch but when you're 20 minutes in you see other people finishing it's like okay maybe we have a chance we both knew we were dead to rights it's just it was analysis paralysis we didn't know what to do but then we go to the donkeys and we do it in 10 minutes of course you know and that was like kind of we coughed up that first group and man it was hard to get back in it but i'll admit that was the best leg we ran i know we were down for the count but we were way out way out and to storm back that's where the emotion came from i was like all right we're players yeah and i mean how much does it affect you because prior to that you guys were running the race you were kind of running away with it to be honest you were really
43 Dominant and it's after that specific leg you guys really struggle to get back into that top two like you said get into the top group how much does it mentally subconsciously get in the back of your head i stuffed up here and then you get a couple of these things going wrong you capsize your boat you know you do some different things and you're like starting to wonder like can we do this like does that play an effect the mental side of it and especially because you've got so much downtime in between leagues you know the down time in between legs when you drop into the second group is traumatizing because honestly the whole night before every leg ryan and i are like pinning kim raquel and kayla are going to determine it's coming i would do the same thing we're a strong team we'd rattle off a bunch of first and second places and so that's something that's not aired on television but the whole time ryan and i are like oh man what are we gonna do when they hit us with us how are we gonna catch up but i think we just kept our due diligence and you know before every leg was like well we're just gonna take our medicine whatever it is and so it's just impossible to catch pin kim raquel and kayla they're so good guys i mean it's in i say it to every one of my friends now that everyone's seen it if you ran that finale three times again i think it would be three different winners no question asked it's just the competition was legit i mean and i
04 Underestimated it at the beginning and we were rolling too good and i tell katelyn raquel all the time i'm like we just went backwards man you guys got hot at the end we got hot at the beginning and it just kind of died out and it's not that we ran bad legs per se it's just it was never enough to catch up and then in the finale we get what we want we're like okay you know when we start with all of you we have pretty good results we have basically we win every time and in that damn elevator just got i couldn't understand why you couldn't see it and then i thought well in the heat of the moment i probably would have gone down to the ground or gone somewhere else i wouldn't have thought of the lift at all but i was like god guys look i couldn't get it and one question that chris and i had was that we thought each box clue box was on a different corner of the place but then at one time we saw two teams close together and so it looked like the clue boxes were together what was happening with the clue boxes there did you have a different one on each arm of the hotel yeah so if you look from the top view we're standing on the center of the hotel and there's like four arms and so basically three separate of the arms out of the four have a clue box on them right and if you see it we're the first ones there i mean in a foot race
24 We're gonna beat anybody it's just our motto on the amazing race was 70 and eat an elephant one bite at a time every single time we got away from that is when error happened the cheese the doorknob and then of course the elevator instead of just focusing on the clue that's like up or down we knew it was an elevator we just didn't wait long enough for it to come to the top numbers and you weren't allowed to look over the edge of the building and so you had to wait and so i'm a and i take us inside of the hotel i'm like maybe it's in these elevators and we literally get lost in the lobby without a key to get back upstairs oh my god a long time and so really the hitch and the giddy up was me luring us in the lobby and i don't know if ryan will ever forgive me i knew it was an elevator just the wrong one it was such a anti-climax for me in the finale to have that right at the front because i pretty much told michelle when you guys got sort of you know you were behind right from the start you were never going to catch up because the rest of the challenges seemed really straightforward like how long did it take you to do the rest of the leg and to get to the finale was it pretty straightforward were you guys struggling after that because to me it seemed like this was the most difficult thing right at the start so we had a little bit of difficulty after the elevator navigating la i mean we just
44 Drove basically all over europe and la by far is the hardest place i drove and i did 99 of the driving just because i can't navigate myself out of a paper bag so that was a little bit of a hitch but once we got to the pinatas i mean we murdered everything and i'm confident we did most of it faster than everyone it was just and that's what burned so bad and there was always the what-ifs when you look back and it was like ryan if we could have just got through the elevator remotely quicker than we did we were probably at the last challenge with everyone and you know i thought we were way behind when it finished we ended up being like 20 minutes behind second place i mean it's incredible when you think about we were at the elevator for a long time guys i mean i was down in the lobby for a good 20 to 30 minutes trying to figure out how we're gonna get back upstairs and that's the amazing race though one thing's gonna get you know and that's why pin and kim were so successful especially in the last leg we blundered the beginning raquel kayla i mean i was sitting in between those two at the finale party in florida i mean they had a guy stop me and they had it and the you know hats off depending him but man those girls when i looked left and right sitting there i mean my guts were in my feet
05 I just felt so bad for them because they were the hottest team going in the end and did you get to finish the entire final challenge we did actually you know what's funny is we went right there and just smashed it immediately the one thing that i made sure i was ready for was the memory challenge i knew it was coming i mean what whether it was a pup whatever it was going to be we blew right there i think we had one or two faults but very quick the pinatas i mean after the elevator incident i was beating pinatas to death i mean there were yeah i saw that it was like oh my god i have no chance of coming down in one hit and then the foley challenge too we get right through after a couple of checks and you know in the back of my mind i'm like ryan it's the amazing race we're in la there's traffic who knows but yeah we kind of understood but to be as close as we were and have such a blunder at the beginning it just reassures me that we can be champions of amazing race i mean i have no doubt about it and i don't say that conceitedly and i know people are like it's crazy he needs cop but it's confidence in our abilities and we're good at a lot of things and man we love each other and we're good competitors and we've got to go win this damn thing like listen they cast certain types of people for the show and it's competitive people they're not going to cast people that are going to go out there and be wallpaper you know because we don't want to see that on our tv i do want to ask
25 You know you mentioned that you've got it in you to be the amazing race champions i believe that you guys can go out there and definitely do it i definitely think you're a strong team i do know you would put kayla and raquel very highly up there as well so i want to take i want to take kayla and raquel and lulu and lila if they're still in the live chat i want to take them out of the equation because i don't want you to pander but who else that played this season do you think could be the amazing race champions if they were given another shot i mean you like you let pen and camera on any season i think they're on my mount rushmore i'm a student of the game of amazing race i've watched every episode i mean thousands of times they can compete but someone that didn't come back our buddies the bros my train boys spencer and anthony i'm telling you they could go they were a threat and that's why immediately we're like hey guys couple bros couple bros maybe we just partner up and then we get to the end and see where it could shake out i'll tell you a sleeper team though that no one really talks about and i know they had a little drama at the beginning that broke up but cairo and rey so cairo is fluent in like multiple languages she's extremely intelligent they both have so much charisma and i actually got to spend quite a bit of time with rey in florida at the finale which i didn't get to do prior
45 I've never met anyone that can light a room up like him i you know i know they've bickered and i'm gonna be the first one to tell you if you go on this with your significant other you better have therapy lined up when you get home it's gonna be rough yeah i would never do it i couldn't do it drove me crazy i would love to do with my wife and she would be a beast of a competitor but i think she would kill me by the end of it she's not she wouldn't be as patient as ryan she would be like you better find that rock but those two carol and ray and spencer and anthony i think could have made some noise tough competitors for sure both of them i was kind of glad that rancaro didn't come back and spencer and anthony we were going to run with spencer and anthony anyways but there's like one last thing to worry about but lo and behold then you have the you know raquel and kayla who are actually savages the final three in this season guys i mean if they ever did a season where they took the top three teams and pitted them against each other i put my money on season 33 real high yeah i said to chris because chris said who's winning and i said god i can't tell you they're all really strong it could be any of them and i found it really difficult this season to pick any one of you and i every other season i can usually pick the winning team but no it was too tricky i think i picked them just based on the edit like
05 I could tell by the edit kim and pen was going to win so i was pretty early on i was like you know phil's dropping the oldest team ever to win line and then they kind of try to hide it a little bit before killing kayla potentially becoming the fourth all-female team but that happened very late in the season but when you just look at the competitiveness that you guys had and also another thing that i really want to see like i want to see this final three come back or more teams from this season get another opportunity because i really felt like you guys missed out on a bit of that experience of traveling the whole world because you were in europe predominantly and back in the states you know how did you feel about the fact that you didn't get to see some other countries and have you traveled before this or was this a new experience for you traveling outside of the states so i've been very fortunate i've traveled a decent amount i've been around the world you know not to a ton of places but a huge benefit was you know ryan has definitely made up for lost time since he has been free and so i one it's nice to have a guy that's been on television before when you've never been on tv like i didn't even know what the hell to expect i mean i'm a very normal guy guys i sell insurance around a bed and breakfast and so this is a whole different world for me and so that was very calming but you know we were blessed to travel and i really believe if you haven't traveled and experienced like
25 Jet lag and those kind of things and it can take a toll on you and you know we're just very both very fortunate that we've been able to see some parts of the world and that took a lot of ease off but the crazy thing is when you look at this cast you know they've had great opportunity they're all very well traveled then you know i really couldn't find a weakness in that side of it but it helps i mean if you spend time on an airplane for a long distance and you know you can go on zero sleep and those kind of things and we truly believe too and i mean it is what it is we lost we got third but if it would have stayed normal like a normal amazing race season i think it could have probably benefited us like race rest race rest right you know we're machines i mean ryan and i can go on minimal sleep and but the other thing is the long amounts of rest drive you mentally crazy and so it almost was a deterrent to me i think ryan can take that all day long but if you speak to anyone on the cast by about portugal all of us are ready to jump out of hotel windows so you're not picking up the casting call of big brother phones is what you're saying if you have to sit in a house for three four days without any action i don't know big brother would be my thing yeah it's true it'd be fun for us audience viewers to watch you bounce off the walls inside but it wouldn't be fun for you experiencing it yeah i would be voted out pretty quick on that but hey i'll give it a crap guys really though man i need to get on survivor
46 Too i want to go like eat weird things and just survive and that's where i would thrive i'd love to see you on survivor as long as you don't go out there and think that if you're the provider and by making a fire at camp and catching fish is going to keep you in the game yeah it sounds like you're a student of the game you'll go and study the strategy but there's a lot of old-school mentality sometimes from players coming into this thinking of you help people survive a camp that's going to keep you in the game you know yeah i've learned helping people didn't do me too well it never really hurt us but you know one thing that ryan and i are very proud of on this we ran a very clean race and if you watch the episodes we literally helped every single team at some point and our thing was we don't want a u-turn we don't want to do any of that we want to win as clean as possible and we really just want our friendship to show through man and our thing was like we're never gonna fight and if you're gonna fight the amazing race is gonna get out of you guys we never even raised our voice at each other not one time and i think it's he probably want to kill me multiple times because i would lose on these death traps but that's just the kind of guy is and i just have so much utter respect for him that like how can i be mad at you invited me on a trip around the world to go nuts you know just what an experience man i just i'm it's so sad it's over i feel like there's closure in my life or for some reason and
06 Man i gotta go do it again i've got one more question for you on the race the challenge that to me like i mean the rocks clearly that was a difficult one i would have hated to be in your shoes the fact that there was only one left at the end craziness that's never been done in the amazing race by the way before as far as i'm aware they always have multiple options yours was especially hard because you got down to one option left i think penn said you know you don't want to be the last team because of that so that's so difficult but the other challenge that stood out for me is being a very difficult one and i was very nervous for you guys when you went into that leg just before the finale was trying to count the arches on that specific challenge like how difficult was that in real life going through it because that to me seemed very unique as well you only had like a little triangle a little square space that you could stand in while you were counting that it didn't look easy and like you said you know the older you get your eyesight's not like it used to be when you're in your in your teens guys you have no idea so the pressure you know it's two roadblock leg to punch your ticket to a million bucks or at least a chance to win of course it's me to you know seal our fate after the last leg i've been through i'm like oh no what have i got myself i should i was thinking oh no you're not going to be calm enough you're going to run in there and just want to count really fast because i'm
26 Similar to you and i just want to do things really quickly and i'm thinking oh my god they need ryan they need ryan count and we've got dusty what's happening so honestly though at this point i'm like well the world's on my shoulders dusty you live for these opportunity time to make up for it and so this is the crazy story guys it wasn't air but here's the real deal so i go i run over and i make my first guess i think it was like 103 i run back go back 112. and so i get back to the box and i'm thinking in my head i'm like so it's got to be close to this somewhere in here and i'm thinking like 10 i'm just going to run back and forth and just keep saying numbers like i can run all day it's a long run too i mean like a half mile i'd say three quarter it's long and so that became my strategy and so the third time when i'm running to the monk i'm just gonna go give a number i stopped for a second and i don't know if the race guys were looking out for me or who was i knew the finale episode was going to we were going to compete 10-6 if we made it and so in my head i'm like it's got to be 106.
36 There's got to be something tied into i'm literally saying this on microphone walking talking to myself and i for sure that i was going to get aired but i think production tied into and everything and so lo and behold i go stand at the monk and i say 106 and i'll be damned if it is not white and i think ryan will tell you that all of portugal probably heard me running screaming because i knew then i you know i haven't seen the printer natalia and i'm like this is it i just hit the game on the jumper we're gonna go compete for a million bucks how about this and so it was i mean i was gonna use process of elimination but i can't tell you where it came from why i thought of that i'm the least analytical person you're ever going to meet in the world it came to me i said it and it worked i think someone upstairs owed me one from the rock i think and so that i mean is the best feeling of the whole season for me to know that like i damn near knock this out but to get that done hit the game-winning shot and at least give us a chance for the money you know one and three chance for everything but pretty good yeah are you a bit of a football soccer fan as well dusty because i saw a little bit of an easter egg there with the celebration in portugal during the ronaldo celebration and i don't think a lot of other people picked up on that my job there was like sell it they love him he's a king
56 Here do it as much as you can i think i do like ten times like the lady the mayor judging our door i did it every time hoping like ooh he's a soccer fan yeah i mean to be great you gotta act like you're great right and there's no one greater than ronaldo in portugal they're putting him on boats with explorers i mean come on spoken like a true salesman dolores here and the live says that michelle you and dusty should run the amazing race you two would should consider it obviously the amazing races in australia as well michelle has applied to be on the amazing race for five times now over here in survivor australia we've had legends of the game play the australian version you're up there is one of the best to run in the amazing race over there you know definitely maybe we should exchange numbers afterwards i'll take lulu like i said in the beginning of the season they were my girls this season so they can come over and race with me and dusty you can run with michelle would you yeah you can you babysit are you ready for it you're gonna need a prescription of xanax and like all kinds of things you're to need it not me you're just going to need to control me i'm like okay i'm totally fine i work with kindergarten children every day of my life i read at that level
16 It's perfect then you can dusty it's been so much fun talking to you i know you're on a tight schedule today i did want to ask you know this is an opportunity for you to plug anything i know you spoke about your bed and breakfast quite a bit let people know where they can go to your bed and breakfast and also whatever else you've got going on at the moment i know you've got a few projects and we probably will hear your voice if not on a reality show talking about them absolutely and i appreciate opportunity for this so yeah i do run a bed and breakfast in glenwood springs colorado we're called the harris house bnb you can look us up at harrishousebnb.com also i am competing in ironman switzerland on lake lagano where we were around the race and so i wanted to talk to my they've been incredible partners with all my supplemental needs and everything i thought the iron man was a i thought the amazing race was hard iron man's full-time job guys oh my goodness i'm gonna walk myself into so shout out to that but honestly i love you kayla the pit stop podcast guys we're not done i know we've recapped all of our episodes but we have some things up our sleeve that will be starting very shortly we have some personal things we're going to talk about some things behind the scenes on amazing race and we will tackle some other seasons of cbs shows as well and so i'm just blessed to do
36 Something with her and gain such a great friend but really the whole cast has become my family i'm just so fortunate to have met these amazing people and so it's kind of where i'm at it's not the last of dusty it's not the last of ryan we want to come back guys we think we deserve it and we will produce if we get the opportunity and i've told everyone you can mark it down here my half of the money goes to any 30 you guys pick all of it half a million dollars yours take it i need that belt guys i gotta win the amazing race that's all i care about we got to get you back on just for that alone because there's not many people that would do that lovable nikki here says dusty's dusty was great we love him ryan and ryan's calves love that as well so i mean we had a lot of comments about ryan's calves here on this podcast especially all those staircases that you guys had to keep running up at the end of each leg as well if you're still here in this video at this at this time guys i really appreciate you listening please consider hitting a like on this button on the video please consider subscribing if you enjoy this content we want to bring more and more people this season from the season on to the podcast and do interviews with them and many more we do a lot of coverage for the challenge cbs that will be live we're actually going to be talking about the next rumored cast in about an hour and 15 minutes which i'm really
56 Excited about and i'll have angel cake on here and reality of realness talking to me about that as well and we do many other shows and this channel is going to continue to evolve as well who knows maybe at some point we'll have dusty and kayla back on for a collaboration that would be pretty cool dusty amazing so much fun talking to you and you know if you can stay around there for one second we'll just have a quick chat with you and guys we'll catch you next time bye
