4:14 Like the squid game I mean the real or the scripted one and then the challenge one is that the unpredictability of it the brutalness of it there's no Second Chances there's no saving yourselves with the vote there's no winning your way back in it's like you the wrong moment the bad luck whatever it is and it's done and that's always such a harsh feeling so yeah like we got built up with certain characters we got to know certain characters we got to love certain characters and then we end up in a second half with none of those characters are around and we end up with yeah where we sort of ended up what did you think of that yeah I thought it was very interesting I think I said on the podcast it's kind of like every sports game you go to where you have to starting lineup then your reserves it's like everything we thought about the first week in all the characters trying to discover a winess edit we throw it out the door cuz it doesn't matter anymore they all that were eliminated you know through marbles the glass Bridge or I think the last the last character we saw from the first five episodes was the gamer girl B I think yeah and then she yeah and she rolls she rolls a and gets out it's like wow literally no one from the first five episodes makes it to the end game but I thought it was good I enjoy getting to know Ma as well like where has

5:34 MA been this whole time which congratulations to my you know what an epic win and she really did just come out of nowhere G almost like a Australian Survivor edit almost where just like a massive character like a bingi just comes out of nowhere and just dominates the wrist of the game how like what's your thoughts on how they edited Ma I mean she def like I said if it's a season of two halves she was the second half MP good reason obviously we find out in the end why that was the case but she certainly did get a bigger edit than the other finalists you the final like yeah she was getting and she had big moments as well like she ended up get obviously her relationships was super strong with I think Chad TJ on the bridge like she had moment she had the and then targeting Ashley after the not wanting to take her turn on the bridge and putting St out so she had moments as well that were quite big and made her stand out in that second phase of play but she gave the editors material and then happened to you know take it out in the end as well so I'm glad we got to know her

9:36 With season two maybe being a podcaster about it is actually a good thing maybe but you guys all heard it from kaha right mcky hope that's my Instagram handle you know find it follow it so then I will be on squid game surely but a thank you so much mcky if you're there you're my winner pick well I've got a lot of people who would say otherwise I just had my 22nd and I told all my friends about it and they're all like mate you're tripping over red light green light or mate you're falling off glass Bridge like I would jump but then I would just miss the glass panel in front of me but yeah squid game Kahuna you know it's the massive Korean drama you know it impacted the entire world basically for like almost half a year from you know 2021 into 202 now we've got the reality TV version do you think it held up to the Korean drama I mean it's I'm not treating it as the same thing like that it but what it did sort of hold up and do really well and I think what made it so good because if you kind of took a bird's eye view of this show and broke it down to its elements a lot of it is really quite basic

10:56 And that's the premise of the show as well right squid game is children's games it's meant to like be that basic level of thing but for super high stakes and yeah like it if you just explained it if you wrote down the tri the part the challenges if you wrote down what was happening on paper I would read and go it doesn't sound that great but what made the show for me was in the production was in the edit and the way they can get something like I mean we're talking in the final episode it's scissors paper rock and also leading up to that point they had the dinner where you just press a button yeah and I was so like it was so tense I was like wondering what color like light that would think and the whole thing about this show is not in the actual specifics and the makeup of the challenges it's the way they film it's the way they edit it's they way they build in that suspense that unpredictability anything can happen at any moment and because the stakes are high like I really loved it I do think it lived up to the suspense of the show obviously without the drama it didn't have that same level of drama involved because it's a it's a game show we all know that but the way they could edit it together so of felt and the feeling was really intense the whole way through

12:16 I even though it's kind of boring like in reality like the final episode It's the final episode we see them have dinner press a button and then do siss paper rock and if you told someone that you would go that's boring as hell especially for a finale where they separated it out to be a standalone episode but as I said it was intense it was very suspenseful it was again in the visuals it was again in the edit it looks spectacular it's a beautifully produced high value high production value show and I think it came across in the final product like if you can appreciate that level of detail which I do so yeah and something that I personally really loved as well is all the different twists they had added to some of the games like in our preview podcast I said how are they going to do the cookie game how they going to do Marbles and you know the glass Bridge because everyone knows for the cookie you go for the circle or triangle you know for glass Bridge you go for the back for marbles you're not going to team up with your mom or your best friend but they' added all these different elements make a picnic yeah which like kind of tricks players or Force players to do certain things like I love that when you grabb like a vest you had to give that to another player you know and when it came down to the cookie

13:36 One you know obviously Brighton you know like fully went hard at Spencer and kind of you know him into it you know and it's like there's all these great twist all these great moments that came from these twist and yeah I completely agree I feel like a not only lived up to the show but it like raised so many expectations for a season two such a phenomenal job with everything yeah like everything is like and you're right like the little things that they did add didn't take away it actually boosted or elevated a lot of the suspense and a lot of the drama like we mentioned earlier on that there was the Mr Beast version of squid game where he did a version of it and for a YouTuber he spent millions of dollars on it the production value for like a YouTuber doing it was phenomenal yeah but compared to this it wasn't really in the same thing but I liked when they did say for example the Delon or the cookie Challenge on Mr Beast they were like okay everyone line up in front of a question mark so you don't know which one you're doing right because they all know the umbrellas the hardest as well so line up in front of a question mark which is a great way to keep it random so you're not really able to gain the system but then when the Netflix show did it they're like no

14:56 We're going to put the same sort of you're lining up in these things but then you negotiate where you want and it's this the interpersonal place so they're like taking it up these notches where if they were like stand in front of a random thing and you don't know what it's going to be if like oh you find out it's an umbrella challenges way harder they didn't know that in the original drama in this one they do know so the way to get the make it even more suspenseful is not just make it random but make them fight for it and put that time limit on there where you're going to get eliminated if you don't make a decision and that's where it that's the little things that they SC they you know they Salt Bay salt sprinkled on it on the steak right like it's those little things that just added that much more flavor to what again on paper is very basic but they sort of Ratchet up to again it's just the suspense it's the unpredictability it's the what's going to happen nature of it and how brutal it can be which really made it a much more elevated experience for me yeah and even some of the new games said added like you know warships the roll the dice the blindfold put a box on someone's table all of them Dope that was cool I like that I didn't get comments on it last week but yeah all of it was just phenomenal you know with just how they edited it the suspense like visually warships was

16:17 Fantastic as well what's your thoughts on all the games that they had added again like it wasn't in the game play itself because Battleship sorry Hasbro warship is a fairly boring generic game but visually the way they the lights go dark out with the certain ones being lit up and like all that sort of thing like it's again it's all in the edit and the production and they made it look really appealing and really sort of again suspenseful it's suspenseful it's like are they going to get it there's only three choices they can make and you're turning a difficult decision with lights with editing with drama with sound production with music like so much of this show is based on the sound as well by the way like not even just the creepy like Korean chant but the way that like in the final episode they're doing scissors paper rock which is boring as hell right especially when it's behind your back but they time the scissors paper rock with the music like everything just layers on layers on layers to make it feel like a much more Complete product which I really love so yeah the challenges again it wasn't the challenge itself it was the way the challenge was executed which

17:37 Made it really great yeah let's get into some of the comments here as well so one byv they use stunt men for the glass Bridge Accord to BuzzFeed I also did see a couple articles on this and try to comment U what's your thoughts on this on the show using stunt me to do good they absolutely should it's super dangerous thing to do like even if there's a giant airbag underneath stunt men still know how to fall very specifically into those things you put a rando there like we said before like if you're falling like do you out of fear like instinctively try to grab the glass stop yourself falling like there's all these potential issues there so I'm glad like we heard stories about them suing Netflix because they didn't get Chapstick imagine if they made them do the glass the fall on the glass Bridge you know what I mean like they're getting sued because it was cold or whatever like if they put them in actual physical danger it would have been a lot worse so yeah like the spirit of the thing is still there they still made the choice they still made the decision whether they you know which side they go 5050 but when you get a stunt man to actually physically take the bump it's a good thing like we don't want to endanger people well you did bring up an interesting

18:57 Comment that's something I've talked to friends outside of the podcast about so some of the contestants and a lot of people online have also been complaining about certain aspects of the show in terms of the conditions of the show you know because I guess something that wasn't really portrayed much in the Korean drama was the psychological aspect you know you're in this giant dorm the whole time you got no sense of time or anything the food you get given is just really crap and really basic we often say this a couple times in a strange people go on the show who obviously haven't seen the show before and I think Sarah from Hero's first villains genuinely believed that you got sent to a hotel after every tribal to sleep and then go back to the island yeah I don't know my sort of thoughts is that all these conditions are sort of part of a show yeah and I think if you genuinely believe well I'm pretty sure a lot of people who went on to the show must have thought that okay we're going to smash out the six games and then just go back home or like stay in a hotel I don't think anyone actually realized that red light green light would have taken you know 7 to 11 hours of filming or you know just how long each game and you know the process of everything was going to take and I guess my only thing is just

24:18 We didn't see because I've been rewatching the reality TV squ game episodes with my mom and the whole time I was like okay I'm watching out for Phil I'm watching out for S I'm watching out for ma there was nothing of them in the first five episodes and then yeah we recently start of the marbles episode there is still nothing throughout episode 6 it is once I reach the glass Bri episode that's when we start getting content for Ma and I think Sam and Phil sort of comes bit more after that yeah I thought ma got a little bit earlier than the other cuz I knew my way more than I knew and absolutely yeah so we covered a show earlier this year at million dooll Island and there was a lot of editing stuff where the only showed you the contestants that were up for elimination that episode right and pretty much by the end of every week we got to know another two three potentially four maximum like contestants are still on the game how do you think they like had edited some of these characters and players to build up for the finale do you think that had done a really good job considering that there's 10 episodes and they weren't like extravagantly long episodes I think they did a phenomenal job with what they had like there's

25:38 456 people there and we still got a firm cast of main characters which you know go into PowerPoint presentations from podcasters but there was enough people there for us to debate about whether they were they played a big role or they shouldn't but there was there was certainly people there that were the characters of the season so I think they edited great like there's probably a million more PE or not a million 456 other people whatever but that were boring that didn't deserve thing and I think they kind of rang all the juice out that they could they probably could have done like if Netflix was like an Australian company they could have got like 60 episodes out of it would have been on four times a week for like 12 weeks straight and have other SP like they considering the fact that they kept it pretty tight 10 episode run less than Survivor less than normal you know mainstream reality shows they kept it tight it's the biggest cast ever the biggest amount of people ever 10 episodes to get what we got out of it I think is pretty phenomenal yeah Absol absolutely I do think we had like a wide range of main characters as well that kind of kept us guessing who is going to win this show

26:59 Right and I think the unpredictability like Steven and Rick for example getting voted off in the Jack in the Box twist as two of sort of the Front Runners who potentially win the show and then you had the Son and the mom going into Marbles and then the sun losing glass Bridge there was so many different players we thought okay got hard done by he got he got stuffed up by Ashley like that was bad too so yeah have you seen the like the social media outburst I can imagine I've not seen it but I can imagine it wouldn't be great it is horrible it is absolutely horrible you know people are sending her I think she got like over 100 death threats or something she was talking about it on her Instagram same with Felicia she got a bunch of hate messages and death threats for eliminating stevenh and Rick and it's I mean like I guess I love I love when fans are passionate about a show but I think that's the wrong typ of passion like yeah I was also gutted that you know the trade went out but also at the same time great move for Ashley you know she made it through she made it through the glass Bridge still no idea why no one held her accountable like no one said move go like do you think people were allowed do it three times do you think like the contestant

1:19:07 Squid game like I mean I'm not sure for you but for me it literally did just come out of nowhere right was viral yeah they relied on people who spread the word yeah and I guess some with this reality TV show SC G you know I obviously knew about it you know from St this year cuz I've been harassing you and Chris like we got to cover it we got to cover we got to cover it you know and it eventually just arrived of course jender Chris and he's like I like the amount of times it brought up to him was so much like oh yeah you know that's not to later on the year later on the year and then he's like crap it's next week it's now yeah tomorrow yeah but I think you know the quean drama has raised you know such a high but you know season two of that show is coming out some point next year it was always going to be hard to be on par or beat the show but I feel like this did a really great job and I loved every moment of it I'm hoping they time it better that if they if they're already casting for season two I hope they don't take a full 18 months because they should release it pretty quickly after season two of actual squid game like the gap between squid game and then the challenge was too big and I think it would have worked better if they were closer to the phenomenon where everyone was about squid game and if Squid Game season 2 takes off and picks

1:20:27 Up again then they should be ready to run with the reality show pretty quickly afterwards just to ride the wave a bit more I think the show was hard done by the Gap a bit well yeah this is actually an interesting point to talk about because I feel like you also have the risk of you know because when you think back to you know end of 2021 there was so much squid game stuff going on you Mr be doing your own thing like all your Tik toks Instagrams Facebook which but is there such thing as squid game overload I think there is but I think you run the risk of the overload being more so when you're further away from the peak like people like people might go yeah I get it's too much squid game and they're not going to watch it but there's going to be less of those people than there are trying to get people back into a reality version of it two years later you know what I mean like you're right that could be a thing but I think the reward of doing it closer would be higher than the risk of overload yeah true and hopefully maybe we'll get a few games from crab game that you that would be a dream come true there would be a dream come true if I go and play and I see the maker of crab game on there I'm sacrificing

1:21:47 Everything to make him win actually there a there's a really funny story he CU sometimes he joins random servers just to see people like enjoying the game one time he joined the server that my boy Nathan and I he made and he banned me from my own server because I because I insulted him I was like oh I was like oh Denny you cheating ass something you know like because he gave himself all the hacks and everything because he's OB the de ban me yeah he does he Banned Me From You Get can do what he wants legit I do want I do hope though if for season two of the reality show it's going to be after season two of the drama show I wonder if there's going to be new Innovations and games in the drama show because I'm assuming they have to they can't just run it back exactly the same way with the same actors and expect that it's going to be better so they're going to write some new things into it new twists new games new challenges and I hope that they can use them into the new reality show as well and adapt with it like they've up the ante based off the standard that this the drama set and added the twist that made it better I hope they keep doing that when the show UPS it and brings in new things as well and makes it even more intense and more scary and more whatever
