Survivor 47: Episode 6 Review

1:20 The hype that people is it ever no but it's pretty damn good yeah I think I think I'm personally a little lower on the episode than a lot of other people that doesn't mean it's bad by any means but it just felt like first of all as we'll get into not a lot of suspense for his going home two I feel like this merory it like really felt like a merory like really weird in between like this is you can really tell this is not the merge yet okay is at the same time like it's weird they're not treating it like the merge when it just clearly is you know so what did you think about the way that they changed the earn the merge challenge this time around I thought it was kind of dumb honestly I think yeah I think like it's just the merge like if that was the only thing differentiating it from the merge was that there were there was a whole group of people that were safe and a whole group of people that weren't and it's like okay this is like some pseudo merge but like this is just the merge

2:41 But they're not treating it that way by the way that people are giving confessionals usually it's like this huge celebration this huge like whoa now my game is you know going into the next phase like we didn't get that it was like weird you know I as I was watching it I had the Survivor Mark cases merge episode in my head for a number of reasons the boot being the number one but number two be it's more of an old school type it has more of an old school type feel to it with a new school flavor of they're going to earn the merge but really there's only going to be one person that actually is immune you know everybody else is going to have to deal with it but we're not going to call it a merge and the person that gets voted out here isn't going to make the jury similar to a lot of the older Seasons where the first boot at the merge didn't make the jury and the Reas obviously the reason I compare it to Mar maresis is because the merge of maresis saw Rob Mariano stirring the pot and doing a lot of mess a lot of it warranted but some not and him getting clocked and him going home very similar to what we see in this episode where you know Rome is doing Rome things and gets clocked and then we

4:01 Spend the next 15 minutes the last 15 minutes knowing Rome's going to go home and but I think it's because he's the one narrating everything it makes it more interesting it's not just everyone talking about Rome it's Rome you know narating his demise and not even knowing it yeah I yeah I agree it did I think it's that's a more recent thing with the new era where you know they are all on the same Beach and then they vote somebody out who doesn't make the jury and I believe even the next person who's going to get voted out is also not going to make the jury as well because they've been doing where it's eight members of the jury three final three and I believe there's still 12 people left so that leaves one person out yeah no like I said I thought it was not a good episode I just think it was a step down from the last ones I thought it was like I thought it was really fun how they treated clearly the editors saw this and they're like what are we going to do how are we going to create any suspense there is literally no inry and they just said oh we just won't we just will you know and I'm trying to remember the last time they did that like bonu I guess

5:22 Like yeah was like but like I don't know about like post merge or like post it's funny because I would say it acts almost like filler for all those anime fans out there it come it almost feels like filler except for the fact that we are losing basically the second first or second main character of this season in this episode we see the Saul Rome rivalry end in this episode and it's comparable to for the people that watch this final season of Game of Thrones it's comparable to the night King just kind of dying he's been built up for so long and then he's just gone I do so I do agree with you on that it's like it wasn't Rome's allies versus Saul's allies it was no everyone's just voting for Rome and Rome's gonna go the end and that's fine but like you said I do feel like they were just kind of looking for stuff to fill in time here and there just because we don't have we don't have anything I'm thinking like specifically the challenge went on pretty long which is not that big of a deal like I was I think you and me are both like don't really care about the challenges that much but it was good enough

6:42 And but it was much longer than challenges usually are I don't know the exact time but it just was clear that they needed to expand it to accommodate for there just wasn't as much that they can do but yeah like I have felt in recent Seasons like okay they're saying it's not the merge but like it is this one is the first time where I'm like even though the format was way more like that's just the merge like given that there's only one person immune but the way that they were treating like there was like no continu of like this is the next phase of the game and so I don't know if I like I know I said like I just think it's dumb that like they just were like okay yeah now one person's immune okay that's just the merge then like that's what was differentiating I'm repeating myself but I get it and I won't say that I won't say that I dis like so I like the episode is it my favorite epis of the Season no I it was a drop sure but based off of what everyone and their mama knew was going to

8:02 Happen this episode at a certain point they kind of just have to roll with it I wasn't bored by it but I do feel like you know I guess on the more positive end it does set the stage for what's next because we get things like Andy catching some votes and asking Sam hey did you know that was my name the other name out there you know we get these things where people are starting to figure out that Sue probably found some something a couple of episodes ago something that everyone has Al all the podcasts have alluded to like hey they wouldn't show us all of this if it wasn't going to come back at a later point because really it kind of got it kind of got pushed to the side ever since it happened so that's going to come into play you know I feel like Gabe in the trailer gabes you know has gone back to I'm running the show how that's going to play into things you know there's a lot to look forward to losing Rome sucks but like we've both said this cast is so loaded that it doesn't suck the air out of the season because he's gone yeah I think that this episode is kind of like you alluded to is like a setup episode like furthering the story without like really explicitly stating

9:22 This is where it's going like it's like planting little seeds and it's like where will this go we'll see you know like you mentioned with Andy and Sam that's the one that I'm really interested in because I feel like it's not good for whoever's for Sierra and Sam basically I think it's gonna be bad I guess we've kind of been all over the place kind of just what we do but maybe let's go back to the beginning the yellow tribe gets back to Camp after anuka was spectacularly blindsided and Rachel is shocked and yeah I can't imagine like what that feels like of just like you all are like a consensus like that guy's on the outs there's one guy all four of us are tight and it's just spect like in one second it's like oh like it's not and I wanted to see more of a Rachel and Andy kind of coming together and I think we're going to get that next episode but yeah I think I can't remember if Andy says this at the beginning or at the end do you know what I'm talking about where he's like oh blindsiding

10:43 Anuko was fun as hell you remember yeah it's like his first confessional yeah his first confessional the episode it's like yeah because it's Andy like they're all such I'm so glad that Andy has made it to this point in the game and has shut up the haters from episode one and I'm sure that he still has haters now but he it he has shown that was just a that was just a moment in the past and it's no long like this is this is the Andy that I think was always going to be there if he didn't get voted out which he didn't he's the villain gabes the villain Rome was the villain Rome is gone so we've got two big villains this season that hopefully we get rid of at some point but it's going to be fun while they're here I think that Andy's really going to have a villain Arc coming up because he saw his name was it twice three times twice and that doesn't add up why is there more than one you know or why is there even one at all why is Rome why is Rome voting for me you know or Rome didn't even vote for no Rome R oh my gosh that was really funny that was so funny oh my gosh he is he's going to be out for

12:03 Blood and I always love when this happens when somebody gets like one vote and it's like the end of the world which it's like yeah you shouldn't like let that you shouldn't brush that aside but also like you can't like we've seen so many people just go down in flames just trying to like go you know get revenge on whoever that one vote was but I'm really excited I think that Andy's gonna be really fun coming up yeah Andy is the he has been a goof oh yeah episode one and even then he wasn't even a goof he was just having a panic attack the rest of the episodes he's really just been playing this role of not master manipulator but just like stirring the stir oh yeah I was gonna have yeah the ster Alliance TM even though one of them already gone rest in peace Andy is now the ultimate shiter because when Rome was doing all of his stuff Andy was the person that started telling people like oh yeah did you hear Rome was saying this and Rome was saying that Rome got out stirred by Andy and I think that's going to be his like you said he's on a path now where he was already

13:23 Teasing that villain line and now that he has now that his name's out there this early in the merge he's going to make sure that these people basically everyone pay that's not Sam because he thinks they all knew about it or we assume that they all knew about it and he's going to deal with it according no I'm not you know I'm not rooting for Sam or Sam I'm not rooting for Andy or Sam but I am enjoying his storyline like throughout the season I've really enjoyed his storyline I think that you are going to like what I'm about to say and I think Andy and Rachel are G to are gonna link I was hoping that it was going to happen this episode because of the whole Idol thing like I thought Rachel was just gonna immediately be like hey did you know Sam had an idol didn't tell you that want to work with me now like want to turn on it you know I think that this is like that was part one this was part two of like we saw the scenes where Sam and Sierra we're both like oh yeah I'm fine with Andy being the backup if he hears about that he's not going to be happy I mean he has we've already said like we feel like he's gonna turn on these that he was going to

14:43 Turn on these people and I feel like we right I think it's going to happen there's step two I don't know if there's gonna be a step three but I think Rachel they turned on him first true he didn't even have a chance to turn on them because he turn they turned on him first so now it's one of those villain story arcs that is almost warranted because he didn't even get a chance to do it Andy the incompetent like I don't think that he's incompetent I feel like he's been playing everyone since episode two ever since you know ever since everything happened which we both said was real ever since episode two he's just been kind of doing he's been I won't say he's running the show but he's aware of everything that's going on and he picks and chooses what he's saying in these moments and I do feel like you know he's not incompetent do you have you seen that no he's not incompetent at all I mean he definitely like got off on a bad start like it's pretty hard like it's hard to recover from that like do people really not understand like how damning that would be for like the average Survivor contestant

16:03 Like the fact that he's even here is like pretty remarkable and like he's not in a bad spot at all obviously he was just the decoy vote that's not great but he has things going for him and like because of things because of work that he's put in like he's not incompetent at all and he does have really nice hair he does have really nice hair yeah he does have nice hair actually like really nice hair I will say but that's not why it's because I genuinely think he's just smart yeah I think he's smart and so I think that right now with the storylines that this it's almost like deathly Hall part one where everyone says that deathly H part two is better and it is but deathly how part one definitely sets the table for what's to come and like you said this episode at worst is just filler at best is setting a table for the second half of the game and I think that even though we lose Rome this episode and his ending he doesn't go out in a blaze of glory he kind of goes out with everyone voting for him except for the person that he really wants gone I do feel like now that he's gone we can start to focus on the last two

17:23 Members of the ster Alliance TM the rest of the season and I do feel I honestly feel like the men in general in this season are probably screwed for the most part I if I were to predict I would say that Saul or maybe Kyle I'm gonna stick with Saul right now will be the last non-male St or non-female standing home the season interesting Saul I think Saul because I feel like because Kyle won and he's Young white guy everyone's going to look at his as a physical threat whatever Sam already his name's already out there as a potential duo with somebody else so they could deal with him who else do we have we have say sam who am oh Gabe who is a shiter is gonna eventually get blocked for it because this cast is very smart I feel like I'm missing one other person I can't R the top of my head but yeah I feel like just the way that everything's going down I feel like Saul could be that last guy standing H I could see it but I could honestly I could see a

18:43 Whole range of possibilities I think that Saul could be the next one gone like he geneveve and Tini were his main connections obviously from his original tribe do they really see him as like a long-term Ally I don't know I don't really think so and I will say I was actually pleasantly surprised to see Saul was involved in a lot of conversations mainly because it was just about Rome and Saul's like his main adversary but like I was like he was involved in other conversations and people were coming to him with information so I don't necessarily agree or disagree with that I think that Gabe could be the last man standing because he is that Trio of him Caroline and Sue that's strong we've seen that a strong Trio can make it really far in these new air seasons and that's really all it takes some Caroline telling Sue Hey like good job of the idol and she's like what are you talking about I don't know it's like come on at this point happened out at the whale great people know but she tried to you know

20:03 What good on Su to try to sa face as long as possible even though very clearly knows you have something and it's so funny because the way that episode is edited what two three weeks ago you don't even think in your head oh yeah just because she's cleaning herself up doesn't mean that she hasn't cleaned up everything else and so everyone shows up and it just still everything just looks the exact same that it did when she founded on TV three episodes ago two episodes ago and it's like a murder scene it's like she didn't clean this up at all because we're all looking at it which lead me to believe that probably happened later because these people go to the well so much they would have absolutely noticed something at some point between then and the merge yeah I thought it was very interesting I didn't even consider like that their Beach could be the merge Beach and that everyone else would see the scene like that didn't even occur to me and like it's actually like really bad for her like that's just I think they just pick the merge Beach randomly or is it like because I believe blue the day they would vote on

21:24 It would they oh I didn't know no like back like Australian outb it's like oh yeah pick your which beach you guys are going to go to and oh okay yeah because I know that like blue they had the most people it was they had five people yeah so maybe that was the reason but I don't know like that's just unlucky for her because she could have just completely avoided that by like the merge Beach being somewhere else anywhere else yeah but also like yeah I think it was funny you know you asked me in the episode in the recap that we did after she found the idol and I was like oh yeah she did a pretty good job of cleaning up no she didn't apparently not yeah no she didn't from what they showed us it looks like okay yeah like decent job no they like the first time that they walk over in that area they're just like what the happen what happened here yeah and I do agree with that three could be very tight and I do feel like in that three Caroline for me Caroline would be my too early to call winner of that three her facial expressions when Rome is giving his soab story I bought

22:44 Her I bought her facial expressions more than I bought and I don't feel like those were genuine facial expressions that she was giving yeah I bought that I bought those more than I bought Rome story even though yeah he is sitting there telling us that it's all crocodile teers I get it yeah I think that she's her and Jen once again jev we don't like we don't get much content with her but everything that we got from her this episode is relevant and you know it gets to the point where three weeks ago we're sitting here saying oh yeah you know who's the chick with the glasses that's not so all of a sudden it's like wow this person is we're getting a lot of content and I'm not sitting here saying that I think she's going to win but she has definitely solidified herself as one of the main characters on the season oh she shot up the winner Contender list from where she was like episode one and two like yeah I was like who are you I've never seen you before to like okay wait she could actually win yeah she saw the buoy and said and said that probably means something okay and what was Sam doing

24:04 Like obviously it didn't end up like mattering but this just something that I like focus on of like why else would there be a buoy there Sam are just very natural in the Fijian Waters yeah those just like naturally grow there yeah everyone knows gr buoy yeah no but like really like obviously that has something to do like okay maybe it wasn't a maybe it wasn't the advantage but like it's clearly something you know it's not just like there for no reason I just thought that was like yeah you think what did you think of this advant it was a two-stage challenge in Advantage was you just get to skip do you like it when they do these types of advantages it depends I liked it this episode because anything other than The Hourglass twist at that mercatory section of the game is automatically going to be better with that extra person that has to sit out so you might as well do something with it and I do feel like once again and we've said this a few times this season where they've tweaked things just a little bit where it works or even if it doesn't work it's not totally egregious where we just outright hate it yeah and I feel like that's the case with

26:45 Coming away from the episode being like okay that was like kind of unfair you know but this time I didn't feel that way and I feel like it was like in a good spot where it's like right at the merory like I feel like that's a pretty good time to like introduce it when there's just like a lot of people giving one person out of 13 in Advantage is better than like one out of six I think is when it was for Abby Maria so yeah I thought it was fine let's see what haven't we covered yet well I want I want to touch on this one the this is the first season that I'm really trying to look at the edit for help Genevie had zero confessionals for like two episodes so I don't really see her playing at the win I just based off of recent history like postco history the first winner we got after covid barely got screen time for the first until The Hourglass twist basically so I don't read I'm not one of these people that read the edit and like oh but just if I were to do that I feel like Caroline would be the winner just based off of what we've seen now it could be anyone and you know hindsight and all that you go back and like oh yeah it was very clear that Hy was going to win the entire time yeah but

28:05 Yeah I don't I don't feel like because geneveve was buried the first two episodes that it doesn't mean that she's not going to win I just think maybe they were G to backload all of her confessionals for later in the season Lindsay was another Lindsay didn't win but Lindsay in 42 she wasn't featured much and then we got started getting a lot I think she was the last person on 42 to get her whole backstory thing which scared people because everyone thought that was going to be the episode she got voted out and it wasn't no I think I think Genevie could potentially pull it out who's to say yeah sometimes the editors will be like okay they're not relevant at the beginning so we don't really need to and then when she really you know breaks out when she comes out and votes out Kanan then it's like okay yeah let's just introduce her now like that's like the perfect time we don't need to we don't need to focus on the first two episodes where she doesn't do anything and she's not relevant at all so yeah I find it funny that everyone was on the new era twist this episode nobody cared to look for the challenge Advantage nobody care about three-part amulet okay so nobody care about three-part amulet I agree and we can we're going to talk about the Rome of it all

30:45 Rome debacle it's funny I feel like Kyle has is sort of being portrayed as like the nice guy which seems like he is nice guy he's got kids pearl which like messed me up because I thought he was like 12 but with a beard yeah he said my kids my kids I'm like how many of them you got yeah I know that was weird yeah wait what was I gonna say okay yeah I didn't mean to cut you off oh he oh yes so he swears a lot like obviously like just because you swear doesn't mean you're not a bad person I swear I've been swearing on this podcast you know but I just think it's really funny because they have to bleep it every time and like I just know that they're like dude stop swearing like we have to bleep it every time and that's just annoying but I just think it's funny that like no one else really swears that much on this show like only on like extreme scenarios where there's like a fight but like he just like throws it out in like random conversation and like Rome brought it out of him like fun story

32:07 One okay so I had put my head down to like pick something off the ground or whatever and it was Kyle's giving a confessional about Rome everyone's gonna have to read between the lines here because I'm gonna imply something but everyone's GNA everyone's gonna know what I'm thinking so Kyle says Rome is a and I kind of looked up because it like there was like a thing there was like you know there was the not the beat but like the silence and I'm like wait what obviously I know yeah yes okay all right okay in my head I just I guess I just forgotten what I was watching yeah and I like wait and then I looked at the screen I'm like okay yeah obviously he didn't say that because they wouldn't put it in an edit and they would like so yeah me saying that it was just like oh and that's when I picked up on the fact oh they've been doing that a lot with Kyle or Kyle yeah or Kyle has her Kyle has her potty mouth but it's funny because that's what triggered it was just me bending down picking something up Kyle saying Rome's a and I'm just like what is happening here no I Kyle's interesting because if we were for me if I were to rank everybody on this cast right now as far as who I am enjoying seeing everyone

33:27 Is I'm enjoying them so there is nobody that I just hate when they're on the screen but I would say the Kyle's at the bottom of it and I feel like that's a testament to how good the cast is that Kyle can be on the bottom of that and I still can say oh yeah I enjoy when Kyle's on the screen but just to me I'm you know I am more interested in seeing what Sue Gabe Caroline Rachel everybody else I'm more interested to see what they're doing in the game so Kyle winning that immunity really you know you know it stood out to me as like okay so maybe we'll get more Kyle content maybe he'll raise up in my in my rankings I don't think Kyle's gonna win this one but you know crazier things have happened and it's early yeah it's never say never could he could win but I'm with you I don't really see it I kind of came into this thinking Kyle's just like a nonf factor honestly like he's probably just G to be sort of a pawn for whoever picks him up really and that could still be true but you know knowing that like he can win challenges

34:48 Like that's something you know like that changes some things people might want to get rid of them now like thought he was just going to skate by but like he could actually this might be worse for him honestly because you want to get rid of the challenge threats and that just didn't even cross my mind I was like he's probably just gonna Escape by be one of like the nice guys at the end that just or I was even thinking like losing finalist honestly like Xander of the Season you might even yeah honestly but he might he might go pretty soon just because of this one we all know from the biggest example I can think of is Franny and 44 she wins one Challenge and everyone's like holy oh my gosh she's gonna win all the rest of them we got to get rid of her now and I was like yeah this is an example of like sometimes winning a challenge is worse for your game and it's I mean sadly I don't care he we've I have mentioned this he falls in the archetype of young white guy and young white guy are always looked

36:08 At as long as they don't wear glasses are looked at as challenge threats even if they're not they're looked at as that and so the worst thing that you can do is win the first individual immunity challenge which he does I guarantee next week all we're going to hear is oh Kyle's a challenge thre it's like based off of what the one challenge that he won like in which it's not the most physical thing ever but you know who's to say am I the only one who enjoyed 46 more than this season I don't maybe I like yeah I was say I liked 46 I know there are a lot of people that hated 46 for some reason I really enjoyed 46 my third favorite new ER season maybe fourth but I love 40 like 47 by the end of this even if this EP this past episode was mid as the kids say I still think that 47 is going to end up being my favorite New Era season when it's all said and done and that's not me hating on 46 because I actually really like 46 entertainment wise even like yeah I

38:48 Tier of the new era everyone was bringing a bon yeah it's so funny because I like I've mentioned Bonnie grew on me eventually but I think when I when I did the marathon over the summer and 46 was my last day and it was the day that I was live streaming I that bonu fatigue hit very early CU I'm like I don't want to be dealing with this I don't care that he's sad that he's probably going to go home I don't care then like after I was done the watch I'm like wow I feel really bad I was like really on bottom and I don't actually even not like him like I did I was entertained by him when I first watched the season you know so I think that and as we start to rep up with this I do feel like even if we're not batting six for six let's say we're batting five for six right now as far as episodes let's say we put this one on the lower end I still think that at worst this sets up a lot of compelling storylines moving forward and I think that as we move forward there is not anyone in this

41:29 Really oh okay and then it cuts them being like just shaking their I can't remember who it was I think yeah it was it was really fun and I think that it didn't drag on it just was like got to the point and then it like even like when they do that like slow-mo shot of like everybody with their torches walking down the beach you know on their way to tribal like Rome is still going on about like you know you've got Saul you are gone you know yeah so before we get to our final words some people have been saying that they felt it was condescending of Jeff to have Rome sit on his stool and explain everything I didn't get that Vibe so it was really weird to me like reading the discourse of like do you think that Jeff was trying to embarrass Rome I'm like I don't think so like maybe embarrass him to I don't I don't even know like who was he embarrassing him to like it felt like Jeff was just being Jeff and let Rome who was it felt like Rome understood that part of what was going to happen at tribal and he was right did
