Survivor 52 Rumour: Jeff Is Ignoring the Fans… Again

Podcast episode · 1 Nov 2026

Episode summary

Chris is joined by Bandit Survivor. Chris asks whether the producers are finally listening to the fans, even with Jeff Probst picking battles with the fandom. Bandit shares a rumour that Survivor 52 starts with three tribes, and they call Jeff tone deaf, though Bandit stresses it is only what they heard and hopes the source is wrong. Bandit likes the two tribe format, reward challenges with no advantage attached and the 90-minute format, but is worried about the MrBeast coin toss advantage. Chris is nervous about it too. On the tethered idol from the summit, Chris dislikes production forcing moves, but says the way it can become a full idol gives Kristin some control back. Bandit compares Sharonda having half the information to a secret Monopoly rule, now that Ori is voted out and it only affects Sharonda and Kristin. Chris pushes back: there is no free lunch in Survivor. Chris says the merge is rushed, cutting off stories like Devin and Jelly, Kilby and Eric at Dina, and Cristian warming to Lewis and Kilby. Bandit wants double eliminations before the merge, and calls a merge that splits back into tribes no merge at all.

0:00 Apparently, Survivor 52 starts with three tribes. >> Jeez. >> I think that tells you everything we need to know about Jeff. >> Jeff is so tonedeaf. He's so tonedeaf. So, I think the other only other question I was going to ask you is do you think that we're on the right track here with open air? Are you feeling positive like that the producers are listening to some of the things that the fans have been talking about, shouting about? Even though Jeff is picking battles with the fandom quite a bit in the season, you know, he's it's almost like we're dragging him, kicking and screaming down a certain direction, but it does feel like, you know, maybe someone in Sundance and somebody in Paramount is actually having conversations with Jeff down at the back saying, "Hey, you need to pull it back in. You need to do a couple of things for the fans here. You can't just have all your way." >> It's funny you mentioned that about Jeff, I heard I heard one thing about Survivor 52.

0:50 Do you want me to say it to you or do you want me to not? Yeah, as long as it's as long as it's if it's a twist spoil, that's fine. If it's not people being voted out, I don't care. >> Okay. Apparently, Survivor 52 starts with three tribes. >> Jeez. I think that tells you everything we need to know about Jeff. >> Jeff is so tonedeaf. He's so tonedeaf. >> again, that's what I've apparently heard. But >> yeah. Okay. Well, I hope that person's wrong. It's the same person who said that Tiffany was going to be the winner of Survivor 41. but in terms of Survivor 51, I think, as you say, they've been kicking and screaming to get some of these twists, like the two tribe format. It's nice to see actual reward challenges that aren't tacked on with going to an island or a visit. It feels like this time 5 years ago, every single twist had to have an advantage tacked on to have its validity reassured.

1:44 But it's good now that we're getting those kind of twists that are just very surface level and don't have always lose your vote or gain a vote attached to it. The idols being another really good one. And I think they've been getting a bit more confident with the 90-minute format, which is very good. I am a bit worried for the future because we do know the MrBeast mega beware coin toss advantage is hanging in the air not just for this episode or this season should I say but it'll be for the foreseeable future now and I'm not really sure how they're going to make a coin toss interesting for all those different seasons and again you could have like a pot of $3 million say for example someone flips the coin and they don't get anything they get weird out they don't get immunity they don't get the 3 million pot That is something that scares me for the future.

2:34 >> Yeah. Yeah, it should be. They should be saying whoever flips the coin is guaranteed to come back next season and play back seasons or something like there needs to be like something additional on it. But I'm with you on that. I'm a little bit nervous about that as well because I hated the idea of the tethered advantage at first because I don't like it when production forces people to make a move, right? So they force you to lose your vote. They force you to play your idol on someone else. They force you to give an idol away like the Billie Eilish idol. I don't like those mechanics. I want the players to have choice and at least with that last bit where if they both get voted out of the game, it becomes a full-fledged idol for her. There is some control that's coming back to Kristin's game. What did you think of the Summit Twist, the tethered immunity idol and everything that happened there? >> Yeah, it feels like the amulet coin advantage that we saw in the likes of Survivor 42 except one single advantage.

3:25 It is interesting that as you say, Ori is now voted out. So it only really affects Sharonda and Kristin. I don't like the fact that you're giving half the information to one person and then all the information to Kristin because for Sharonda, she is now thinking that she has this incentive to keep Kristin because from what she knows, Kristin has an idol that can only be used for her. So she's going to try and get Kristin as far as she can into the game so eventually she can play that idol for her. What she doesn't know is that Kristin has now unlocked a brand new win condition that she's not even aware of that Kristin could actually target Sharonda to get her out and then get a fullyfledged idol. So again, it's kind of like if you and I played Monopoly and we've already had friends that have always done this in Monopoly. You go to jail, someone lands on your property and it's like, h but I actually there's the rule where if I'm in jail, I still get all that rent money.

4:19 Give me five grand, Chris, so I win the game. And you're like, well, you didn't say that part of the rule. actually changes the entire dynamic. So, it's kind of interesting in that aspect. >> I hear you in that, but I would push back slightly on it. I mean, we are playing Survivor. We're playing Survivor and in Survivor, I feel like it's not unprecedented for someone to stay back and for that they get from it or there to be additional information. And I think if Sharonda was a student of the game, I don't know if she is a fan or someone that has watched it for a very long time, maybe she's a newer school fan, but even if you're a newer school fan, you should know there's always something that happens when somebody stays back. There's always another piece of the information that you probably don't know. And like quite a few people said, I can't remember in which tribes, there is no such thing as a free lunch and survivor. So I do think she was 80% there, but she missed out on that opportunity to think, well, what is the twisty?

5:12 Cuz this is very lopsided for Kristin. There's no advantage for Kristin really in this game. Like surely there's going to be another thing that's going to entice her to betray us or something like, you know, so I just think that I hear where you're coming from, but it is Survivor. This is another reason why I almost sometimes feel like we rush into the merge, like you know, because we're rushing into the merge just so that we can split them back into two tribes for the next episode and vote in two separate tribes. So to me, it's like what are we doing? Like there is actually some interesting storylines that are that are developing. Like for instance, the Devin Jelly. I would have liked to have seen what would have happened if they went back to tribal council. Jelly played her idol. Devin plays a Shot in the Dark. They both end up safe. What happens in that moment? Do they both just stay? Like I think there's some interesting unexplor unexplored things that could have happened in that tribe. And then when I look at Dina, I really wanted to see if Kilby could wrestle Eric over because he was confident that he could still do that.

6:05 And then Cristian is starting to dip his toes into the water and finally come out of a shell and say maybe I need to work with Lewis and Kilby. Like there's some interesting dynamics that started forming in Dina that I just feel like we're not going to see now. Like probably the least interesting tribe would have been the yellow tribe at this stage cuz they're steamrolling. But I think if both either Pink or Savu went to tribal council next episode, it could have been very interesting. In fact, they probably should have forced two tribes to go to tribal council next episode because we've got so many players left in the game like you mentioned. And I'd rather see those players go out prior to merge than have double boot episodes after the merge. I don't know if that makes sense. A little bit of a rant, but I needed like Eric, I needed to get that off my chest. >> I know exactly. I'm always a big proponent and this is even Australian Survivor where if you're going to do your screw over eliminations, in this case, your double eliminations, I would rather them all be premerge.

6:56 Even that means you have a longer premerge for an episode or two, just so that our merge is completely unaffected. It's all organic gameplay, very minimal twists, and you just let the contestants play as is. It almost felt like this episode was setting up the next episode because it was a predictable boot. There isn't really many dynamics. There's only three people you could go to at the tribe. So, it felt like Cristian working with Lewis and Kilby kind of throwing Lewis under the bus and everything that's happening on Toka is the setup pretty much the next episode, which is interesting. I just know we're going to see like is it is it really a merge bandit when you go into a merge and you split back into two tribes or the three voting blocks? Like is that a merge? >> It's definitely not. Like all my negative videos were between Survivor 41 and 44 because they would take them, they would have merry, which is half the tribe voting and then you know yourself the next round they split them into two different tribes.

7:50 It's like okay right so they're not actually merged on in either scenario. So again, it's not something I like. It's one of my pet peeves to be honest. I think they did the same in Survivor 50 where they got the 17 contestants together and they split them into three tribes and two went to exile and it's like this hasn't even emerged at this point. You're actually ending up with more tribes than you actually started off with. Search is just insane.
