0:00 Oh [ __ ] and we are back with day 32 of Survivor 46 and 46 just finished watching Survivor Co wrong Michelle won get over it but we're going to talk about the discourse between Michelle and Aubrey this season a little bit today I'm joined by three people we have two here right now we have both Kyle making his return from the Australian Outback review 30 days ago right 20 30 yeah 30 days ago and Lily joining us for the first time since 42 and 42 both production members of DCP which I feel like we've just had almost everyone from that production staff here at one point or another so shout out DCP once again and just going right into it the question I started this off every time with first experience with Kong and has your opinion of the Season changed throughout the sub quent times you have watched the season and Kyle we'll start with you my overall opinion is that it is a pretty unpredictable season I think the Scott par vote is one of those moments that like I'll always remember how I felt and I like went into school the next day

1:20 And found the one guy who watched Survivor and was like did you watch last night as a season overall I enjoy it I don't love it as much as some people do and I think I've always just kept that opinion as I've watched yeah okay and Lily so okay I think I said this last time we did this but I brain dump like 80% of things I watch in life so rewatching this season was like watching it for the first time but I've been trying to use a more like analytical look at it maybe more understanding the Strategic point and I came in knowing that everybody says that Aubrey was robbed and I know we're going to talk about it but like I think that's a hot take so I think it was kind of fun to watch the season and like try to understand why people think that way because that's just not how I think but yeah I mean honestly I would say this is not my favorite season but I literally couldn't rank them because I don't remember even like season 4 so that's fair and then we're also malcol is here Malcolm from the Survivor diversity campaign Malcolm the first question I asked was what was your first experience with Survivor Kong and has your opinion of the Season changed throughout the years yeah well first things first hi everyone

2:40 We a good Wednesday I am rushing in from work that went a little over but that's food that I'm like here when you eat but I'm super excited to talk about Kong with everyone here my initial thought when I was a young lad watching Co wrong was like Aubrey was robbed how did this happen I didn't feel such a visceral reaction since I saw Natalie winning Samoa that was my initial thought and then on a rewatch I was like oh Michelle is clearly the winner after playing some orgs you think about like jury management and the importance of that your personal relationships and it just goes back I think to like a continued conversation we have Within the Survivor fandom about like the editor is really not doing a good job on how to articulate a good social game so I think it probably was much easier to say this is how Aubrey lost versus this is how Michelle wins but I'm excited to get into all the good content I think Michelle is a great winner deserving winner and I think we see why she won with her game that she plays in season 40 so yes and I and there a lot of things you guys touched on that I do agree

4:00 With I feel like and I know I like to bash Survivor fans a lot on certain Survivor fans a lot on here because of their knee-jerk reactions to a lot of things but all of us are guilty at one point or another of having that knee-jerk reaction with anything that happens with something that happens on survivors and I feel like a lot of people that do say that Michelle somehow didn't deserve to win this season haven't gone back and rewatched the season and that's the case with a lot of Seasons where people have certain views on a season and they just kind of just stick to that instead of going back and rewatching and realizing oh I might you know I might be wrong on this one and that's why I love doing these rewatches because I have been you know I've had perceptions of Seasons that have not been the case and I think that with this season when Michelle won the when Michelle won back in whatever year it was 2015 is I was like okay that's curious but I didn't think that it was going to be as big of a deal as it was until when I watched the season in 2020 and I realized that this online community of fans existed and realized that so many people hated her that and I saw her confessional in winterers at War where she's like the internet

5:20 Hated me and Jeff probes ha me and all this other stuff that I realized oh man like there are people the Survivor fans are just like Star Wars fans where if they don't like something they'll just you know they'll attack the person and that you know and that's something that I feel like Survivor fans are starting to really go down that dark path especially after 46 with you know now that social media is so prevalent they feel like they have they're obligated to tell Maria oh yeah you robbed this poor boy of a win it's like well she didn't but get over it my initial reactions to Kong was It was a it's a fine season every time I've rewatched it's I don't want to say mid because that's like what the kids say but it really is though like it's a very it's a season I could put on and just kind of live life and like clean my room or whatever and you know eventually like peek up and see what's going on but I don't feel obligated to sit there and watch everything because I know that not everything is pretty is relevant but this time around and the last time I did this I really wanted to focus on Michelle I wanted to focus because like I think Kyle said maybe it was Lily they don't know or

6:40 Maybe it was Malcolm I don't know they don't know how to they don't know how to edit social winners and watching the way that I do you can go all the way back to vpia in season 4 or Tina in season two and see how they don't know how to portray a social winner like they have to have some type of strategy for them to give them the front and center platform L we're going to start with you what you know and as you've watched this season you know however many times you watched it since your initial Michelle what do you think about her has bothered so many fans throughout the years as far as like oh yeah this is where we draw the line as far as you know we don't need this we need an Aubrey one what do you think that was about Michelle that felt like that made people so adamant that she didn't deserve it yeah that's a good question I mean I think first I want to just reiterate what you and Malcolm said like the editors did a disservice during this entire season and it's like highlighted with Michelle I think what a lot of people don't like about a lot of winners like Michelle is that she played in the middle a lot of times and that's what kept her safe but that's what also prevented her from making these quote unquote big

8:01 Moves that you have to make to get to the end to make your case people that get voted out at the beginning of the merge or you know in the middle of the merge are these people making the big mve so if you're going into Survivor nowadays the smart thing to do is to stay in the middle you know not play Both Sides that's not what staying in the middle is right like there's a difference here and so I think the inability to Showcase that in this season which just made her fall into the background kind of was how she got to the end right she fell into the background she was a number when you needed someone she was willing to let go of her closest number one person and I think that those are the important things but I think that she didn't have a flashy move like everybody always wants a winner to have but it's rare nowadays to even be able to get to that point in the game and have a flashy move on your resume so that's my opinion I love a in the-middle player so maybe that's why I'm Pro Michelle here but and going off that Malcolm on the going on the opposite end of that the Aubrey fans would not shut the [ __ ] up after this season about how much she deserved to win and she was Queen of robbed goddesses and all that what about

9:21 Her game this season was so much better than Michelle's to the point where people are attacking Michelle on line because they felt like their person was rough because I mean thankfully social media was not as prevalent in 2009 is when Samo was out I do feel like the Russell Hance fans would have probably done that because they're all pieces of [ __ ] but just go here why do you think people were so strong with Aubrey here I think because Aubrey is like your casual Survivor fan right like Aubrey is not the Aubrey is like our nerd right and she's also our narrator of the Season we as a fandom we or as viewers we know every single one of Aubrey's moves it's visible we getting Aubrey's confessionals on why she's doing it how she's doing it right like how she pulled Tai away from Scott and Jason like we are seeing every single thing so clearly as what Aubrey's doing versus maybe a confessional from Michelle like this is why I'm cutting Julia like this is why I'm not going to fight for Julia to stay in the game this is why I'm going to let her go right and I think also with Michelle

10:41 She is the winner she's the winner that maybe went to the least amount of tribal councils so we're not even seeing her navigate Tribal Council as much as we've seen past winners you also have to think from Michelle's perspective once we get to merge right there's the first metac so she voting for the first time where there's maybe what is it like 10 people when everyone else has G at least once so Michelle is when you go to Tribal Council that's your opportunity for the first time to kind of like establish trust and other people at that point already had established like Aubrey knows who she can vote with everyone can know she vot where Michelle this is her first test of voting what she has to do so she's kind of being forced in the middle and I think you got to give Michelle that credit of being able to come into establish relationships navigate her way in there and then put herself in a position where the jury is kind of being stacked in her favor to eventually get that win right and I think even though it's not as visible as Aubrey right Michelle has the immunity wins we see her strong relationship with Julia and Julia has the strong relationships with like Scott and Jason relationship Sydney so like it was

12:01 Stacked in her favor but it takes a rewatch to really see it all pan out as to how Michelle did what she had to do and got the W Aubrey she's just so Aubrey is the season she NS on everything you know so and I and I and we're going to get to you in a second because I do have a different question for you but watching it this time I almost saw as Stephen JT where JT sitting at the end with Stephen and a few other Seasons there is a potential that Stephen doesn't get shut out and might actually win depending on what the jury was and sitting at this jury it seemed like people were like they did care more about the social aspect of the game because her one of her biggest allies in the game Sydney didn't even vote for her another one her biggest allies in the game Debbie didn't vote for her like they I felt like theyve and they gave her props almost and one of the one of the misconceptions of the season is the jury was overly pissed off towards Aubrey when in reality most of the hatred was kind of directed at Michelle and Tai and specifically

13:21 Tai like Tai got a lot of the hate this time it wasn't really Aubrey you know J Scott and Jason kind of directed some of it at it but like outside of that it really was nothing negative directed towards her Kyle what I want to ask you is and this is kind of fantasy booking if you will is there anyone on the season specifically merge wise that you feel like would have a better case of being the robbed person of the Season as far as someone that if they had gotten to the end they would have won or do you feel like Michelle wins almost every scenario that she goes up against folks I think Michelle wins pretty much every scenario I would like to think Sydney would have won if she had made it to the end Sydney was my favorite player of the season but I just don't know the way that Scott and Jason felt about Tai they probably would have felt the same about Sydney as well so I don't even think and then who else Joe like Jason jul I think I think any combination of these people I think Michelle wins against so that is another Testament to her game is that she is almost

14:41 Unbeatable in any combination of people who make the M I can't I can't think of a combination that she loses to really she loses exactly and I and I and I do agree with you I like the only person like you said that I would make a case for would probably be Sydney but sadly YouTube has taken down all of the Ponder Ro ex except for Kagan and winners at War but Kong is one of the Ponder roses that I do remember vividly because Scott and Jason treat Sydney like [ __ ] when she shows up over nothing and they're so upset after she after they pull that move on Nick even though she didn't pull the move on them she voted out Nick and the rest of the time they just want Sydney gone because they feel like she turned on their Alliance she didn't turn on their Alliance because they're still here she could have easily thrown out one of their names and it could have been different but I do agree with you because of the way that they feel about her and because of the way they feel about Kai if Sydney sits at the end the only way that Sydney probably wins as if she sits next to Aubrey and Ty because Michelle you know Michelle sitting next to cydney and Ty will probably get the same notes that she got anyway and the only difference would be maybe the juror that get taken out which we're going to talk about because it's a horrible twist

16:01 The jur that gets taken out might be a little bit different but I think the result is still the same I do agree with you going with this comment not many Duds in this cast in my opinion even Darnell had potential Darnell had a lot of potential I if we W to if we want to chase back our steps just a little bit to the to the beginning of the Season we've got brains braw beauty to and for me and I and I don't know who was texting about this earlier but they said the same thing of like it didn't feel like they were leaning so heavily into the theme this time around besides Alicia saying I'm a mental giant or whatever the phrase I think she said I'm a mental giant what do we think about them bringing this theme back out of all of the themes that you know that we have had up to this point we're going to get crazier ones somehow later on but the fact that we get this te back so soon after Kagan Malcolm do we feel like this was the best of the bunch that we've had up to this point or do you think they could have gone a different route I think they could have gone a different route I just feel like you just did kagay one of your best seasons top Seasons top

17:21 Winner let Tony breathe for a little bit we do blood versus God again but I think it's also the same thing where they did blood versus water for 27 and then immediately went and did it again for 29 it's like all right we can kind of chill here if you if you're going to revisit old themes but I know I remember Jeff talking about casting and they were like here's all the people that we have and now we're going to do rain versus Braun versus Beauty they just kind of like fell in that scenario again but I do think the casting for some of their choices I was like oh we are really hurting ourselves reaching on who's going to go on my tribes but like y' got it to and Lily I asked this for Kagan pod as far as do we think they made the cast first and then decided we're going to do BBB again or do you think they decided we're doing BBB again and these are the people that we want for them just based off of how people ended up on how do you think production went about casting this season that's a good question you know I think they had the cast before and then they decided to do the theme I kind of like the

18:41 Idea of it being a stretch I think if they did it again I think it'd be really interested interesting if at first they asked people where they would go and have them go to the mats because you're really showing your cards because I think some of the people on beauty definitely could have gone to bronze some of the people you know in Beauty could have gone to brains and you know Braun could have gone to beauty and you know like it what you anywhere right and so I think maybe if they bring it back to make people show their cards where they think their strengths are might add a different level to the game a bit Yeah I and I agree and kle we're going to answer this one I'll try to I'll try to do it better than last night no apologies LOL who would y'all have voted off the jury and what do you think of that twist we'll go the first part first I think Neil is the best option of getting of getting rid of at that point I don't think Mr Joe is gonna go up there and lambas people like Neil potentially could have I think that yeah Neil if you're Michelle and you're reading the room Mr Joe's already going to vote for Aubrey anyway and he's probably not going to go up there and [ __ ] you if you get rid of Neil and I think and I think she says it like

20:01 I think I made the right choice because of the suckling on the tee comment that he made to her on his way out she absolutely made the right choice do you think that she could have gone a different roundout or was that the was that the right move no that was 100% the right the right choice I mean like you like you said his speech on the way out all but confirms that was the exact right choice to make nobody Joe was not going to influence anyone on that jury Neil was the mayor of Ponderosa That season so who knows what he had been saying it wasn't effective but you just don't know and you have that power that was the best choice you could have made there for sure and do you think oh off of that what do you think of the twist I don't really like it I think you should always if you make the jury you should always be on the jury yeah I and it comes after the final three I don't know I don't like how this was how this was done we saw it in Australian Survivor as well and that was just even worse because they were there for 53 days at that point which is like if you're there for 53 days you should just make final traval you should be on the jury so yeah I don't I don't care for it at all Malcolm you had your hand raised yeah

21:21 I was gonna say I think the decision to remove a juror was in response to the fandom of Micronesia because if you remember this season we had so many medacs and things that we had three we had Caleb and Joe so instead of making it an a last minute final two I think they said let's try this and take out so that you know they're not getting cursed out for robbing SII of what should have been her win and had it was had it been a final three so I think this was like a we're gonna make a hard left and do this instead to save face of the three medacs that we had because it's not even like yeah it was three episodes dedicated to the metac so I think this was their way to save because I think they're obligated to make a certain amount of episodes and the issue and I agree with you and the issue that one of the many things that auy stands crazy the crazy Aubry fans Aubry fans are fine crazy Aubrey fans will say is well if Neil hadn't been taken off the jury it's like Well yeah if Neil had been taken off the jury Michelle wins 53 I believe so like even in that case your girl so and I love Aubrey

22:42 This season like I am not sitting here like I'm not [ __ ] on her it's more I'm [ __ ] on her fans because I do feel like she played a great game this season but when they try to come up with these excuses oh the jury was super pissed off watch this watch Final tribal that's not the case oh well Neil was there oh well you know the vote count was what it was you're wrong oh well you know if Mr Joe hadn't been metab backed Michelle wouldn't have him been there was like well yeah but if CGI Brett had won final four immunity in Samoa he said to the end he probably win so like you can't you can't say but if but if because eventually you run into a situation where it can just immediately just be shut down well it didn't happen that way sorry The Twist is and I'm glad that they haven't brought it back I think they really I think they learned very quickly and that's not always the case with Survivor production of learning when things work and when things don't work I think they learned very fast yeah this is probably not it because I actually forgot about it I didn't forget about all day like I remembered it when Neil got metac and then I forgot about it again until the finale I'm like oh [ __ ] like yeah that Neil is going to get kicked off of the jury

24:03 And someone in the comments made mention this and I tweeted about it earlier Neil is such a fun character this season until the suckle of the te comment suckling up the te comment that he makes towards Michelle on the way out because it just comes off as so out of character from everything that we presented about Neil this season and it kind of I won't I won't say pisses me off but it's very annoying to see such a drop in a character that I enjoyed so fast literally Fair foul with the comments that he makes to Michelle on the way out listen I have a lot of things to say about the men on this cast and the things that they think that they can get away with and Neil just happens to be one of them and I think I was with you Andrew where at first I was like wow that kind of seems out of character and then you remember back to when he gets Medevac and he has to make some like salai comment like you guys are lucky I'm getting Medevac and it's like bro half these people don't even know you like you know I mean so I think maybe it wasn't character and it's really unfortunate because I think it really just puts a bad taste in your mouth about him I think he is very unlikely to ever

25:23 Come back if they ever pull people from the season just because of that alone like if you're going to be mad at anyone be mad at Jeff but Michelle just made the right decision she's at final tribal she did something you couldn't and so it's just you know it's just gross and I'm not even G to get into the other guys unless we talk about we're gonna yeah we are GNA talk about the other and I think maybe being with those guys the way that they talk about the people on the cast the way that they treated Sydney which I want to just say this now it the next time somebody asks me who I want to play like it's her okay she is amazing and so I just think maybe he was surrounded by these guys for four or five days too long and the toxic energy just grows and it's really unfortunate because like you said he might have been liked until that moment yeah and it's I will say it's uncomfortable it's almost laughable at this point because I've seen this season so much and I've seen that scene so much where it's just like all right now Neil's going to mention this and the fact that he references as a te and it's like I think I hate you but in like a fun Abby Maria way I get it and we're going to we're going to move backwards now to the metcs you know the three metcs that we have this season with Caleb

28:04 And Debbie both go down at that challenge as well and so I'm sure I'm sure they were scared shitless going into Cambodia thinking like we have a returning players season fan vote like what if this happens again ironically that challenge isn't in Cambodia so yeah go figure yeah so I'm sure they were like we can't take any more risks with our players if we can help it so I really think that this impacted that get to you in just a second the question have they brought back this Idol style that no I don't believe they have I think the super Idol is dead after this season the Tyler Perry Idol as they call in Kagan which is really just the second variation of the idol from 12 and 13 so no I think it's dead and I feel like it's going to stay dead I hope it stay is dead unless they bring it back and someone actually uses it because like we still have never seen the super Idol actually played going off what Kyle's talking about Malcolm going to the challenge that Caleb eventually goes home I was talking about this before we went live every single time I watch that scene I break twice one when Sydney is crying

29:24 Because she's you know she feels like she's dying or whatever and two when Tai is crying about killing when I was watching it today I was trying my best not to I still broke but I was trying my best to watch how the scene is shot and the way the scena shot is still very much shot like Jeff was still trying to make sure that this is good [ __ ] this is good television we got to make sure that we get the proper angle and all that do you for the two questions would be one what is your reaction when you watched the scene whether it was the first time or the most recent time but two do you think it was would be the word tactful the way they shot it or like did do you feel like hey we still have to keep butts in the seats we have to film it like that yeah I mean the first time I saw it I think my initial thought was like oh [ __ ] especially because for those of us that watch Big Brother we are familiar with Caleb as Beast mold Cowboy so seeing him out of all people I felt like it also came out of nowhere because they had just won and then he's like collapsing and I'm like wait what the [ __ ] is going on are we about to get metab back is this really about to happen you know so it's like all of that happening simultaneously

30:44 Was it tacked I don't know but is it tacked that we're watching strangers on an island Stars right you gota really bring the real moral question into they are thing probably not hard but I think that when it comes to when I watch Survivor I understand that we are just watching an experience that 16 to 20 people lived we getting a third eyye perspective of the experience that they watch which is why it goes back to like the jury's always correct because we're just getting Insight onto like what they went through you know so like I think no matter how you slice or dice it like that's what happen out there and they're just narrating that story yeah and Jeff is narrating as Caleb is being worked on he is sitting there saying so you know I think it's Dr Joe what are we trying to figure out here and he's like bro Caleb's dying like get away from me I'm trying to work on this guy and you know Sydney and Debbie like Debbie saying oh I have heat stroke and we're gonna talk about Debbie in a second but I have heat stroke Sydney is very clearly not in the right mindset at this point and it's such a it's such a compelling first half to the episode and

32:04 I think the credits don't like the credits don't roll to begin the episode till like maybe 10 minutes in and then we're Off to the Races and I always forget the Alicia vote out is also in this episode and it's just kind of a big jump in Emotion from that to oh yeah we hate Blondie because she's dumb blonde and we need to get rid of her we go to Neil has it's not the what was it wasn't his actual thing it was a different one that was on his back I believe or was it was the one on this back it was the one on the knee because one on theee oh because they said yeah because they said it yeah NE so we get to Neil and it's after Jeff realizes oh man half of my cast that's at the merge it's [ __ ] up and I probably need to send someone out there to make sure that they're all right Neil I mean like I said earlier I feel horrible for him in that moment because you can tell how much it meant to him you know him saying he's been watching since the beginning in that moment and we'll go Kyle for this in that moment I feel like they knew what the twist was going to be at the

33:25 End and because of that there is a where Jeff says you know sorry brother but like you're going to be on the jury and this that and the other and knowing what happens to Mr Joe later do you feel like they could have just called an audible and said we've got two people that were met back their on the jury maybe we shouldn't stick with this twist this time and just go with it next time or do you feel like maybe they made that I know Malcolm brought that up earlier but do you think that maybe they didn't add that twist till later I mean I it's compelling case that they that they added it later especially after Joe got Medevac and you're looking at the number of days because I don't think they're worried about the number of people that are on the jury you could have a you know it would be fine but just in terms of the days and like you said the episodes like and the finale you want something in the finale it can't just be like another Australia finale so I'm sure they're like we gotta have something in here so well they have see you so like relax of course yeah so I do think that the case could be made that they that they added it later and this is one of those instances where I would say that they probably did say like we've had this idea for a while this is the

34:45 Time that we got to use it to make like this runtime work yeah and I feel I feel like I would I probably agree with the two of you in saying that this around I had I didn't really have that thought in my head like in my head this was always the plan and until y'all brought it up tonight I just in my head thought it was always the plan that we're always going to remove a juror because we're Survivor and we have to make stupid twists every now and then to keep people on their toes so watching it in this moment and watching Jeff say oh don't worry brother you're gonna be on the jury it's like no you're not and it's going to suck when it when it when it finally happens and you know going to Lily you know Mr Joe and I know I keep calling Mr Joe it's just because I found it so cute that Sydney called him Mr Joe and he called she called Debbie Miss Debbie but Mr Joe eats too much and he's having a lot of issues and he can't pass anything we're at final five at that point and I mean obviously I feel like the answer probably would be obvious but is there a situation at final five if Mr Joe stays were they still like and he still has his health issues and he doesn't get metac

36:05 Do you think they decide hey let's vote him out anyway just because he is going through it or do you think Mr Joe's get he's gonna he's gonna tough through it and we get a final three that's probably Aubrey Ty and Mr Jo what do you think that final three scenario looks like if Mr Joe doesn't get at metac yeah I think that's interesting I think they don't vote out Joe there I think especially Aubrey like Aubrey even says Joe is my second vote at this point he is helping me vote out the people that I want to go so Aubrey's not going to vote him out you know so I think maybe Tai goes or maybe Sydney I mean I don't know who goes to be honest but definitely not Joe there and I do want to say about medevacs I'd be interested to know what everybody thought about when they got to the challenge everyone's showing their grossness right like five times over and Jeff goes cool let's do a challenge and then he goes out to the island eight hours later I think this showcases Jeff is a producer first and I think that we saw that in you know when Caleb dies like I'm a Bravo girl nothing gets people going like a black screen that says one hour later and someone's being pulled out you know what I mean

37:25 Like and that also can just give people breathing room they can make decisions that they need to make and not be worried about cameras so I think that how all these situations were handled this season showcases that Jeff is a producer first which I think is I Hope Has Changed again don't even remember season 42 anymore so couldn't tell you if it has but yeah I you know just my point of view on it but I don't know Malcolm had a better answer for who is the final three if Joe doesn't get medac so if Joe doesn't get met that right because I think if Aubrey had the ability to say Joe shut the hell up and deal with whatever it is that you're dealing with for three days I'm sure she says that Aubrey is now working on Tai and I think what happens because we know at that point Tai has been trying to get Michelle out and I think that's Aubrey's opportunity well wait Michelle wins immunity right I found five and they didn't have a CH gonna be the final for reward which Aubrey won so in this situation just imagine like Aubrey wins immunity oh Michelle's gone I think because I think Aubrey's ideal final three would be Joe and Ty right or like Ty is the swing boo in that final five because
