Survivor Panama Review

0:00 Today I have plans tonight so I had to knock out all of Panama right after we finished going live last night so this is been a day I'm joined once again by McKenna from or host one of the hosts of DCP and podcaster on the specialist so make sure to go follow both of them on all the social medias I'll make sure to have the links to all of that when I post this and we're talking about Panama Exile the first real Exile Island season you know the second variation of the idol which would be retconed later you know when they call the Tyler Perry Idol in about 15 Seasons from now this is this is before it was tal Perry idland it was just the idol and I guess I want to start with that what do you think about this specific Idol like of it all or the super the super Idol of it all yeah I definitely prefer the you have to play it before the votes are red kind of thing but I do pref I do think it is better than Guatemala's because like you with Guatemala it just is basically like an immunity necklace you don't even know

1:20 Like you know votes wise if you're surviving them or not and then you just waste the idol so I think it's better than Guatemala but worse than normal the normal Idol yes and I do say that I agree and I would say that of all the twists and all the abandon the show's ever thrown out I would say that I would like to see a return of this one at least once because we've never actually seen it successfully played we've seen it I think the closest we got was Kong and it didn't you know it didn't end up happening but I would like to see it played correctly at least once so that you know we can see how that changes certain game Dynamics because right now it's just people holding others hostage we see it this season we see it next season and then we see it in Kagan years later talking about the actual people on this season I think that especially coming off of which I was not very high on this time around Guatemala was just kind of fine I do think that this is a very much a return to form at a certain point in the season because I felt myself being very bored watching anything that lamina would do this entire time like I just did not care

2:41 And meanwhile casaya I would like sit up in bed I'm like what kind of they're getting into this time and I you know I feel like this is this is what we needed coming off these last two seasons so what were your thoughts on this season the first time you watched and how's it changed in the years that have nonsense I think for me Panama only go gets higher and higher I really like Panama I just rewatched it this last October and was super high on it first time watching I felt like it was still just a good season but you know I wasn't as into you know the strategy of everything so once you rewatch a lot of it and get to know strategies and just how masterful the 321 is like it just takes I think Panama to a whole another level I feel like it is a less intense gabone where like gabone everybody hates each other Panama people also hate each other but it just is like has a comedic twist to it rather than like no we just all hate each other no we all hate each and that's the thing and I talked about this in vanatu and in Guatemala when about

5:22 They weren't able to break up that because that casaya group if you put like a more if you put Chris or Danny on that tribe thatai group doesn't just keep on going all the way they're going to flip on each other so what were your thoughts for you know going into that merge of Lamina versus casaya did you think that they had any type of chance of flipping the game and why do you think that it didn't happen it's hard because I like Terry but I'm rooting for casaya so like I want Terry to do well and I think he needs like Sally Austin Nick like he needs these people in the game but also he was so stubborn of holding on to his Idol where he could have maybe changed the game at some point to try and do something like who knows if that Idol is replanted at Exile and we're at a stage in the game where they're not like oh send me to Exile so I can look for the idol they'd send Terry again and now Terry has the idol again and can use it so maybe if Terry wasn't as dingy with the idol they could have made a move here because they knew where the votes were going pretty much at every Point yeah and I know the first time I watched this I would get annoyed

6:42 Because the first time I watched this I was rooting for the underdog in the situation which was Terry which is ironic because every time I've watched this since then I'm actively rooting against Terry or Terry as Danny calls Danielle calls Terry but I would get Anno that he wouldn't do it you know he wouldn't play it because I do feel like if you get rid of the right person on casaya everything else just falls into place they immediately start going after each other and that's not saying that he didn't do the I think the fact that he got the final three with that strategy I you know I can't sit here and on it because he got to the point where he just had to win an immunity challenge to win and we'll talk about that immunity challenge a little later for me I didn't like lamina for a lot of reasons one because they were boring but two because they really were stuck on this whole women are weaker thing and that just kept happening yeah so like in a sense like when Austin and Nick had the deciding vote between Sally and Misty and Terry and Dan basically and Ruth Marie was just you know here was she didn't yes she was just there Ruth Mar but they had

8:02 The they basically had the choice do they go with the girls or do they go with the guys and I don't know if it was necessarily it was like tribe strength because Terry just kept beasting everything I think they were having good relationships with the girls but like it just Terry is just such a dominant force that if you don't keep them around you are just even worse off yeah oh and not even saying getting rid of Terry it's just more you looking at them that the round that Dan Fuego goes home and they're so sad because Sally's not there to be the scapegoat for both of them kind of screwing up the puzzle during the challenge which by the way the preview for that episode where Jeff's like and for the first time ever something happens at a tribal that'll like you know knock your boots off whatever I'm like oh God it's the Dan Fuego tribal which is not there's nothing exciting that actually happens during it's heart-wrenching Andrew it's not it's not I don't care I do not care at all I don't care because lamina is so boring to me it's like okay yeah okay but the moment where Terry's on exile and they eat all the rice and beans and then they have severe

9:22 Gastrointestinal yes that was that was a fun the two scenes that we got of Misty trying to flirt with them like yeah that was fun I guess but every time Lina would end up on the screen it's like all right let me just get on my phone for a bit because I'm I don't care about any of these people besides maybe Sally because she's cute but like Terry you know the I compare Terry to like the entire season of Palo where the allore kind of wears off once you know what Terry is which is the challenge piece at the merge once you know that it's like okay yeah you know Terry story line was going to be on the wrong side of the vote at the merge almost the entire time and he's going to win all the immunities and that's it but like with casaya it's always fun to watch different people every time I watch the season of you know yes C is a very easy one to watch but then you know you try to watch Shane and you try to see the game from Shane's eyes which is a lot you try to see it from the Winner's eyes you know you try to watch it from rs's eyes and like yeah watching it this time RS gets really one piece of negative content in the entire season and he plays it off as a positive during final tribal where he's like oh yeah I told Melinda she was going home it's like yeah that scene annoyed the out of me the first time I watched it and

16:03 Because she does know that's the best way to the end for her go ahead and also I she is one of those people that's like oh can we get Siri can we maybe Terry's like oh maybe we can pull in sir for something Danielle can you get sir so while she's in this majority Alliance she still has kind of left herself open as an option for the other side yeah I think and it's a testament to our social game the fact that even from the very beginning of the season when it's between her and timbera and timbera 100% should have stayed in that sit just based off of the content that we were getting between the two yeah the fact that three stayed there and then when they go they swap they you come by and TR and they pick Melinda who I went back and looked at everyone's ages again for this season because we start off with age groups and Melinda and Bob dog are the same age and Bob dogs on the younger tribe and funny enough I'm 33 so I'm a year older than they were when they played but sir probably should have been the next one to go in that situation and she didn't and then casiah just goes on this long to the point where now her ARs and Danielle have a final three

17:23 And she also has one she has a thing with Shane and art like it's a testament to the fact that sir is just a better social player than damn near anyone that's ever played the game yeah and especially like when they were like all right so one of you is going now and the other one is going the next time we go to Tribal Council and then they didn't go to Tribal Council so sir like put her tentacles and infected the rest of casaya into being like no you should keep me you need me I'm a vote I'm a number and just beasted this yeah the I think the first moment that we really get of like oh she's playing was the night that Shane like after they vot out Bob dog and Shane's trying to take his son's name back from everyone and Sir immediately in the morning goes down to Courtney and says hey you missed it in the tent last night this is what happened Chain's crazy we should probably think about you know doing this she was so well insulated with everyone in the game that I don't think that people actually saw that like I mean someone did mention I think maybe Shane or somebody mentioned it at one of the tribals like sir no want go to the end of Sir because she's a mother and she's super nice it's like no you don't want to go to the end of three because she's out playing social

18:43 And strategic wise everyone here and if you give her the platform to actually say it no one's going to be heartbroken that she doesn't they'll be heartbroken if arus or Danielle or any of these people do it to them but what if it's sir it's like okay yeah we let that happen it's our fault that we let this woman pull off all these crazy moves yeah exactly she is just I mean what more can be said about she's just show but we have to tou on her a bit what about the other main storyline of Bob dog the wine and the ous and the out house I like Bob dog Bob dog was a very fun pre merger and that you know the episode of him and Bruce getting drunk in the out housee and oh I'll never vote you I think what happens what they wake up oh no Bob dog goes off in Courtney and basically says oh yeah I care if everybody else is upset I don't care if you're I don't care if I drank your wine I care that I drank everybody else is and then he what like she's top three most annoying people that's ever existed in the world or something yeah well we'll touch on Courtney but I

20:03 Like everything about Cas like once Melinda goes and that's not a knocka Melinda it's just Melinda wasn't long around long enough for her to be a cartoon character on this tribe because it is basically s and a bunch of cartoon characters I would say that RS is the closest person to not being one but he does have his whole episode one thing of his yoga thing and yeah it's like okay but he has to be portrayed as the straight man here because he wins there's no Terry someone called Terry a wambulance Terry's on the course we'll get to thei their rivalry but casay is such an iconic tribe that I think it saves this season from being boring yeah I think that the season had all the tools to be a very boring season and I think that because people wanted to see what was going on casiah and the fact that they lasted all the way to the merge and the people that were losing on casaya doesn't take away from the entertainment because once the lamina folks are gone from the merge we lose what Bru Bruce first because he can't yeah he can't all because he can't poop we lose

21:23 Bruce first which is probably the least entertaining of the six even though Bruce is very entertaining lose Bruce first who is Courtney next which yeah God I've got thoughts on Courtney and then We're Off to the Races I think the way the boot order went casaya wise this season Sav this season from being considered lackluster and you only get that because this tribe is so chaotic and they all hate each other this is if the vanatu women had actually stayed together and if the Guatemala people had actually stayed together you know this is what would have happened in my opinion why is why has casiah stood the test of time because this is almost 20 years ago I think because there's no like same characters like they're all so different and so polarizing in their own ways where in Guatemala or in vanatu sometimes you might get confused on some people or like what did they do their kind of background I think all of casaya really gets a spotlight where I think some other Seasons might not highlight a lot of their characters like in Vanuatu maybe Leanne and Julie

22:44 Could get a little bit more screen time so I am a little bit more saddened when they leave or something like that or a little bit more shocked at The Blind Side where like when Courtney goes it's like world it's like crazy it's an alltime it's alltime move and the fact that the winner of the season is probably the most vanilla of that group and like I like arus but like of that six ARS is very clearly like okay yeah ARS what do I know about him he wins and he has a rivalry with Terry that really doesn't start to take the Forefront of the Season until after the rest of Lamina gone that's when we start to get the Terry Aris storyline but you know Courtney is just even the way she's being portrayed it's just like yeah I feel like I'd be so annoyed with her out there I feel like Siri would be my best friend I feel like Danielle would be someone that I would look at but also I strategize with I feel like I would hate Shane but I also understood why Shane just kept sticking around and they bring it up during the One World War challenge where s says something like oh yeah you know Danielle and Courtney are very easily sucked back

24:04 Into Shane's all he has to do is apologize and they are immediately back in and then when she goes on the other reward with ARs and Danielle and she says yeah you know Courtney has a crush on arus or Courtney has a crush on Shane that's why she keeps getting sucked in and it's like yeah I mean I don't know if I necessarily buy that but there's a of times this season that Shane has antagonized both of them and they have continuously gone back to them I'll find you in your shitty little apartment that the way that scene is filmed or is shown is so funny because they play it as if it's the punchline of a joke you know it's I'm gonna find you and I'm going to kill you in your shitty little apartment and then it cuts and there's like a stare down she's like oh yes my apartment's not shitty it's like oh you get it because it's ironic because you thought she was gonna bring up the fact that he said he was gonna kill her like what a regular person would do and then he flips out well duh CU I don't know your apartment yeah I was did he say it was a it was an adjective yeah it's like okay but that was the same episode the best episode of the season was the touchy subjects challenge because it's so iconic for the fact that Courtney gets called

44:08 Because I'm probably not to start to later any final thoughts on Panama this being our first Exile Island this being our first time with a more similar Idol to what we get later with casiah our first time with Siri your final thoughts on it think it is just a top tier Survivor season on this last rewatch it like skyrocketed in rankings for me and I think it is just such an enjoyable watch where it has the comedy it has the heartfelt moments it has the strategy it just has a lot of good overall like boxes that are checked while still being old school and have that old school feel for those who like old school survivor or want an old school season to rewatch I think Panama is like one of the number one Seasons I would recommend because it is just top tier I do really like Exile Island I did get burnt out from it but I think it should be brought back as a game mechanic and not like an edge of Extinction or Redemption like give us traditional Exile Island where it's like the whole game not just like Julius Kowski on exile
