0:08 So [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] welcome back to the nullifier tech channel here on youtube for one last time to talk about survivor south africa return of the outcast that's right it was finale week last week and we're a little bit later than usual but like they say rather late than never i'm joined once again by zoe and richard my two co-hosts i'm chris your host here on the nullified take channel and we're going to be talking about the last week we had a great week myself and richard even got to go to the after party speak to a few survivor players who knows we might even let you in a little bit of what happened there and what we observed and
1:28 Zoe you know sadly you weren't there but we tried to keep you as involved as we could we tried to you know phone you we definitely got you your salon buff you know so you've got that's the post that's going to come your way how are both for you zoe how are you feeling now that we're finally here in this last week i guess of some other african return of the outcasts it's sad it's over but it was an amazing ride i thoroughly enjoy it and i cannot wait for you guys to drop tea because i mean why go to the live event and i'll come back and tell us some juicy stuff so we are all ears i am ready for it i'll leave the tea spilling to richard you know he's the one with the innocent face i'm sure they looked at him and gave him everything and told him everything at the live finale richard yes it was so amazing chatting to them absolutely lovely people and they have so much to talk about so it was a lovely experience once in a lifetime it was an honor and you know a huge privilege but yeah it was nice meeting you chris for the first time and so stoked yeah what a great experience you know first time myself and richard got to meet in person hopefully next time you know if we get that invite again we would get zoe there next year as well it was a little bit of a last minute thing that we planned here and got the invite but i think there is all the likelihood of that let's say hello to a few people
2:48 Here in the life we've got oh lung coast old long sock is back and is saying been waiting a long time for us finally was last week yes we were at we were at the finale last week and that's why it was a little bit late and also i'm like in between places right now visiting south africa i'm currently in my dad's office my brother's office here so i'm trying to like spot where i can be close to internet at the right time to actually do this also in the live for the first time is my nephew's eight years old hey pj all right so you know one of the things i wanted to chat about we were at the finale and richard you were there with me who are you the most shocked by and who do you feel like this person is exactly like you saw in the finale and who do you think was slightly different because for me 100 pinty was the shock like you know i always knew pie tea would be cool in real life probably you know because you go out there and you're hungry you don't have food and all that kind of thing but i didn't realize she was the hugging kind she gave me like five hugs at the finale and super friendly you know i've got to say so it was so cool and the illusion of painting this grumpy person for me was forever broken just by being there who is the person for you yeah i mean the panty was awesome to meet i had actually met her the previous watch party like she told me that she's a fan of the podcast and was telling me like the little moments
4:09 That happened i'm like you know who watches a two-hour podcast with you know pretty people like us right did she say she loves zoe or did she say she still wants to square off with zoe at some point a square off indeed but yeah it was awesome i think shane is you know the person you see on the tv is exactly who he is on thingy in real life as well but yeah i mean like i said lovely people meryl marian full what a funny guy you know so yeah the list goes on such a great oh okay the person i was most surprised with was dante i told i even told him that my i thought he'd be this like reserved chilled guy but he was actually easy to talk to i'd sway's the best social player of all time i think is great i think dante is great at those like because i had a bit of a chat with him during the night as well he was great at that one-on-one conversations i think that's where he feels comfortable but maybe when it's like a whole bunch of people around him and there's the cameras on you as well because you kind of forget that the cameras are something you've got to get used to and if you don't you know normally if you're not like zoey and you search for the camera that can be very uncomfortable zoe yeah i'm shocked i'm just thinking maybe they were all full and well fed that's why they were super friendly
5:31 As well there was a lot of alcohol they were not hungry they were happy so yeah and for you guys i wish i would have met this the guys the pictures look amazing everybody looks friendly so yeah maybe next time i will get to see them and if i see pine tea i will run away also you know just letting everybody know if there's any of the survival players that even listen to this at any point you know thank you for making myself and richard feel very welcome there it's all up from our end you know that whenever we said something on the podcast was never targeted at you as a person outside of the game it was purely based on your game play or how you acted in the game now that doesn't mean that is who you are outside of the game but in the game if you were being a little bit of a diva at times we were calling it out as being a bit of a diva but we understand that who you are in the game is not necessarily who you're going to be and they definitely show nothing but hospitality to us when we were there i was shocked richard that how many people actually recognized us i didn't realize that there were going to be other people there that listened to the podcast yeah because sometimes when they're like oh i know you're rich and i'm like is someone saying it just because you know they see me or do they actually mean that they you know us it's an amazing thing and sometimes hard to believe but it's beautiful and you know like i said in a recent tweet i made like thank you chris for this amazing opportunity
6:51 And i've even made a new best friend in zoe like so there you go experience when are you going to dublin richard or when's zoe coming down to cape town i think if she comes down to cape town she wouldn't want to leave i bet you that it's great wine country down here zoe great wine country in the cape town region so i'm sure if you saw some of the vineyards you'd love doing some wine tasting with some of the survival players who they all seem to be really into that thing as well down here yes i was actually i wouldn't never want to leave i cannot wait so reach out better make a plan surely no so before we get into it obviously you know richard you said thank you to me for having the opportunity thank you to both you and zoe for jumping on and doing this podcast with me this is the first time that we've officially recapped a whole season together as a trial and to be honest i haven't laughed as much as i have in this period listen a very long time you guys have been both great this season but before people get really annoyed at us for telling them how much we all grew as people you know the shame pitch at the end there let's get into the actual i guess episodes that sort of happened here in the last week you know we start off on episode 21.
8:04 Do you know in full they're kind of following each other they're sort of feeling each other out throughout this episode where they're like they both know that the other one's the biggest threat in the game but they're trying to still seek a way to work together and that's going to be something i think that is going to be sort of a running theme throughout the finale where they kind of are this really good mates richard you know they've become good friends in the game and they know they want to be friends outside of the game but they know for their best interest in the game it's not the best thing for them to work together because they're probably going to be each other's biggest in their mind threat i think not that they were disrespecting marion or disrespecting shane but their games were so close that having both of them sit in the final they kind of felt like you know who was going to take the win and i think that dino even said there in this finale week he said that our games were the same but phil had some things that i didn't have which was the immunity wins right yeah i mean it's it number one it's actually nice to see them still have a relationship after dino had blindsided full from the felix vote you know so there was a little bit of some surprises there and we saw at the start of the episode that dino had actually voiced out to even though phil played an idol on him he sort of voiced out that i don't think i trust you anymore dude and then phil
9:24 Actually says in a confessional that at this stage of the game where there's like five four people left someone saying they don't trust you is that you spent the most time with is such a huge you know worry because that limits or decreases the past the parts you have to the end and props to him for playing a good game so far it's really understandable why all marion you know shane and dino want to take him out like he's playing an awesome game you know it's brilliant and so and so you know they get this advantage to i guess it's a hidden advantage they have to do this word puzzle shane finally feels like he's in this element he solves this word puzzle which tells him how many different leafs i think is in the tree or something like that they have to go and run back and forth and he shares that information immediately with the others that are in his group so he shares them with marianne and he shares it with dino were you shocked to see them work this while together and then ultimately see full still pull it off even with all these people trying to go against them and helping each other even kalani jumped in and helped that sometimes telling do you know how much pineapples there were and things like that but still phil finds a way to win once again he wins his fourth immunity here how shocked were you to see a woman and what did you think about this dirty and i put that in quotation tactics to work against fall at the stage to try and get him out
10:45 It was the time when they were supposed to because he has proven over and over again that he is a challenged beast and the only way to beat him is to find a way to work against them so i wasn't shocked at shane and marianne working together but i was surprised that he was able to pull it off i thought at that time he'd be exhausted physically and mentally seeing everybody visibly go after him i thought that would hurt him in a mental capacity but it doesn't it seems to motivate him more and put on the spirit of an underdog and it's nice to see someone that's not supposed to win because the question is then what you're gonna do is that nice excitement a coaster ride that i did love about this season so it was amazing i liked it yeah can i just say like seeing phil win that immunity like i don't know like there was this feeling in me like that's so amazing like that's what anyone dreams of like when everyone wants you out and you clutch immunity and you get it like that scream that feeling like props to him for winning against literally all odds it's full against the world yeah and it's funny because i don't think he actually even noticed or knew how much he needed it at that time but you know phil obviously had a feeling he was winning a lot of immunities clearly has to have
12:05 Some sort of a target on his back so he's at that point of the game where you can't throw them he's got to win them and he pulls it out you know and this is where big match bmt big match temperament comes into play and he has it in ounces when it comes to it the guy with the dad bod former fireman person who's kind of retired who would have thought phil coming into the season would be the chappies of this season i for one definitely did not think it so full you know zoe did kind of call it zoey why did you believe in full telus before i go into my rest of my spiel that i was going to give there since you're so confident about this yeah to be honest when i accused about being a mini chappies i wasn't thinking challenges i was thinking drama and entertainment that's it so when it came to the physical challenge when there was something he put off a bag that i did not see coming but i had faith looking at his body type i'm like he can survive you can be just fine and compete but yeah i was more focused on being more dramatic stealing food lying to people who can be a mini chat but hey just want to say hello to and i hope i'm not mispronouncing it i'm sure richard would help me is it cabello yes cabello welcome cabello was also at the finale party we met and became
13:25 Friends over there so many great friends met at the finale party and hopefully we'll be able to add to this tradition year on year as the show hopefully comes back here on year because i had so much fun i feel like i will have to make a plan to go in the future again i don't know if work will allow me but i might have to like try and twist the arm if i can yeah so full massive shout out to you massive shout out if you're listening to this no i didn't expect it zoe thought you'd bring the drama i knew you would bring the drama you were such a great character throughout the season and we'll talk a little bit more about phil because he's not going to be out in this episode since he did win the immunity and they go back to camp they now have to make a different plan on who they're gonna vote to go home and going back i thought dino had a very interesting strategy here richard because he thought okay well there is all the likelihood now that you know falls won four in a row we're getting closer to the end at the end there's going to be more endurance challenges clearly phil is the front runner to do the endurance challenges he's even doing good in the puzzles he's beating the best puzzle person ever in survivors of african history i'm saying that tongue-in-cheek because i don't think dina proved to be the best puzzle maker in survivors of africa ever but you know he's beating him and the puzzles he's beating him and the physical stuff so he tries to do this interesting plan here where he says what we're gonna do is we're gonna tell phil a false plan to vote for someone else and i believe it was himself i'm not
14:45 Too sure where it was going to be but he tried to say if fall was out on the vote at least then we can use that as a pitch at the end to nullify a little bit of how great his game has been richard interesting gameplay here but shows that dino was thinking non-stop of different angles as we got to the end game i feel like dino's mind just went into overdrive and he started thinking more and more about strategy more and more about how to get to the end and actually win this thing yeah the thing about being an overthinker the negative thing about that it makes you look paranoid but the positive thing of that is that you're able to think of these possibilities that should full stay in the game and make it to the final you know here's a flow that you know his game wasn't so meticulous and flawless and then you can use that against him like he said either he'll make it to the end whoever sits next to you should he make it to the end has something to say that hang on i have a chance to win because this guy that you think is this amazing flawless player that's one so many challenges has this flow on his on his on his on his resume that's amazing smart thinking and i have to stand 100 and i mean it's interesting though because marianne needs to be a part of this plan and actually has to try and convince phil as well because she's the one at this stage that full trusts the most she's
16:05 The closest to full but she not that you've been saying available so many weeks that if they did take a go to the end people may be that upset that they would end up voting for the goat at the end instead of voting for the person who played the best game but phil doesn't believe her i also don't believe them i don't think the jury in the especially the returning cost is that better to give an award to a goat like i don't think they're ever going to do that but in a situation like that you're gonna sell whatever you can sell and if that's a piece you make you make it but really speaking i don't think that was ever going to happen i just think the final tribunal concert night would have been difficult because people would be coming at you for being that much of a coward but not actually like go as far as to note vote for you but at the same time i do think that 49 kilani was just a way to even cut phil deeper in the game because he wanted to take her to the end i mean he wanted to take this on the game so badly so he keep keeping her around so if you keep chipping off his
17:25 Numbers you get him weak so that's how i look at it just weakening feel and nothing more than that and yeah i think and i think also something we need to talk about is you know this the perception that kilani is a coach and i sometimes don't look at it that way yes maybe she's the least you know powerful player in terms of you know getting to the end and getting the most votes with her gameplay but i do think there is some skill in how she played the game because if you look at what happened well number one she survived yanta one 1.0 and then we see here also in trouble when it comes to being in master 2.0 where maybe felix and sorry felix and teresa could have worked with tony steffi to be gotten out but maybe her social game and her being able to connect with someone like steffy was that clutch thing that kept in the game so it's so there is a good play in killarneys just that you know under the circumstances the level of players was so high that her game wasn't that appreciated but there is a good player in the gold i quote and i mean you can also make an argument that even though she didn't she was one of the first people to think about getting rid of steffy and she actually communicated it and she got rid of the one person
18:46 That actually kept in the game and she was able to survive all the way to a final five so that is a game play and a good policy on its own yeah and we'll we're going to talk about a little bit of that when we get to shane's pitch at the end and the type of game that shane had to play compared to what dino played because shane in some places or some ways were also kind of seen a little bit as a goat or the goat option at the end because the fact of the matter is if you've got 20 players then player number 20 is the goat and when you've got three players player number three is the goat you know or player number five is the goat in the final five because that's the player where it's the least likely so the goat can change from time to time and it's not to say that the player like i don't think kalani was the worst player of the season by any stretch you know i mean she got to the final five so 100 agree with you on that but she was at the stage in the game probably perceived as the lesser player off the ones that was still left based on the game that she played this time it doesn't mean that if kalani got another opportunity to go out there she would play exactly the same game or that she would be seen as a goat again i mean we look at dino from last season to this season and he was a much improved player you know so it shows you that you can improve and you can see the game that shane played from one season to the next season was very different so i hear what you're saying there and i know we talk about goats very freely on podcast but it's not to disrespect kilani if she ever listens to this in any
20:06 Way i've got nothing but respect for you to make the final five in the first place but sadly if there is a front runner there's got to be a go and that's what i'm trying to say even if it's at the final five and when we look at this one here i want to say i want to sort of bring this up marion brings up i think you know if we're talking about marion's game she said that she played a very big game but sometimes it was understated she made a lot of great smaller moves this was one of her bigger moves which i think dino ultimately maybe got a little bit of that credit when she was voted out but dino ends up lying about the fact that he's got to steal a vote and marianne is in on that was marianne's plan to stay in with full which i thought once again it just shows us the level of thinking that's going here they've got backup plan on backup plan to go into this tribal council richard to say hey my vote was stolen marianne mimics dino's handwriting so that phil thinks he still hasn't and he bites into this hook line and sinker and i think this was paul's flaw in the game i think full great physical player but i don't think strategically he was quite there compared to like a marianne or dino at the stage in the game and they were out playing him in that sense yeah the thing about survivor is you can only play from what people tell you right and it looks like from final five onwards everyone was together and phil was on the arch
21:26 So it's almost like he has to take whatever little bits and pieces that you know of trust he can have with people and sort of like grab that fully and if someone like marion who claimed to that her vote was stolen by dino maybe that's his one percent chance even though it could be a lie maybe there could be a one percent chance that marion is genuine and he has to grab that with both hands otherwise like said like dino said he doesn't trust him anymore so he doesn't really have much of the options with the players there's left yeah well it ends up zoe you know full goes back after this tribal council they vote out kalani she's out of the game i did notice that kalani did end up voting for dina even though she said she wouldn't do so she would vote with him so it sounds or seems like full got to kalani and turn kalani against you know which props to him for doing that at least kalani was still willing to work with full at the stage of the game so he wasn't he wasn't completely out with everyone he still had somewhat of an in with kalani and he convinced her to move with him but he goes back to camp and he's bitten into this thing hook on a sinker he now thinks that shane and marion are upset with each other they'll never work together and he also thinks that he potentially can talk to dino here on the beach to try and work with dino and it's interesting to see there's no bs alliance because you know
22:46 They so badly want to work together but they know that they can't it's the no bs alliance but it's full of bs [Laughter] those serving a lot of bs my not bs alliance and this like the moment where you do not understand how difficult sava is because as a viewer you see the whole 360 degree angle of it but now he's seeing phil just focus on the 90 percent knowledge that he has the little glimpse in the game that he has and it's so sad because like you want to tell him they're lying to you but it's an opposite of what you see in australia where someone is aware that they are they believe they might be lied to but they have no choice but to trust and then this reminds you of australia's survivor where the guys have been told plenty of times about two i'm not having two adults and they're like nope don't believe that we don't believe that even when they played them they were still in disbelief it's just that thing that remind us as fan of how little we truly know about the game yeah 100 and here we are yet still podcasting about it and
24:06 Giving our opinion because it's such a fun show we all want to be a part of it and this is how we get to be a part of it analyzing it and talking about it one of the things i will say before we move on and i spoke to you guys about it a little bit beforehand you know i'll probably do what did i like about this season what didn't i like about this season why i think survivor south africa in a lot of different ways are leading the way right now in my opinion globally and i know i'm biased so african but i think that we're doing in south africa a lot of things really good when it comes to survivor and we are showing the way hats off to everybody from afrikaans that is involved in the production of this because you guys are top notch i've been very impressed with you this season as always and i know that this is not a kick on you guys this is more to the channel in ned i don't know how the casual viewer felt about having four episodes per week i personally think as a podcaster talking about four episodes a week in an hour or two hour is very difficult to do adjust this and i know that the show isn't made for podcasters we're the minority when it comes to the audience that are out there with the critics and we like to talk about it and so forth but i will say that seeing this many episodes i feel like it takes away from that you've got a whole week to analyze and think what's going to happen next what's the what's dino's next move going to be how's dino and fall going to get out of the bottom to go back to the top so for me personally
25:27 Even though i don't get to binge it i really enjoy having one episode a week because it gives me a week to talk to fans about what's going to happen next richard i think you know both you and zoe would agree to a certain degree but what's your take on that personally yeah for podcasting it's a difficult thing but as a fan of the show it's like i love to see more content because the night the beauty about having more episodes is that we end up seeing those small emotional moments that don't really mean much in terms of what's going to happen at the end of the episode but those hard-to-hard conversations that end up showing us why maybe someone makes a what someone can consider a stupid decision like maybe toriso you know deciding to save felix you know because we saw those emotional bonding connections and you know it's lovely to see especially for us as a fan you know because you're like on these are tips on how to play survivor or not to play survivor so the more content that's out there the better so i'll that's my nullified tape but don't you feel like i agree with you on the more content i'm not against the more content but don't you feel like oh man six weeks it's so quick it's done like i feel like we just started getting our groove even in the podcast and now the whole thing's done so yeah we might have lost it there for a second you bet sorry yeah
26:47 I'm back it is like i agree with reaching i like moko i like to binge watch anything so if you can bend it to me give it to me four times a week let's go but yes i do agree that it becomes difficult to talk about it and also just to simmer and think about the moves that are being made because sometimes by the time you actually catch up on friendships we only like three episodes in and it's already full the fourth episode i do i get that but at the same time i am a fan of binging so the more the merrier but yeah maybe two a week to balance it out and listen it's difficult for anybody that listens to this like from production or from eminent or any of that if they ever actually stumble across it i know that afrikaans will probably sometimes listen to some of the podcasts but it's difficult to please everyone so i would be interested to know what did the numbers say did people consistently watch for the four days or did you see a drop-off on certain days because people were survived out because not everybody that watches the show are as fanatic about it like us they're not super fans for the show they're casual they've got a life they've got other things going on maybe they want to go for dinner on a wednesday night with their girlfriend or you know take do some shopping i don't know you know what normal people do that are not super fans on a wednesday night but maybe
28:07 They want to do some other things you know that we don't care about we'll plan our lives around this thing but olanko's here is telling me no man at least three per week and says three per week then you can podcast monday and friday well i tell you what loncos we have spoken about this before and we said like if there is four again obviously we're talking about the show still needs to be renewed first but if the show is renewed maybe we do two podcasts in the future so it's two episodes at a time because i do want to do it just this and i'll be back to watch it regardless to be honest so you know if it's free episode episodes for episodes you'll see me talking about it in some capacity also just wanted to sort of say as we're talking about this episode i know we sort of veered off a little bit here yeah you know full when they have this conversation on the beach this is where very key conversation starts to take place and this is going to be a narrative throughout this week where dino says that you'd have to be clinically insane to take marianne to the final and full agrees to this both of them agree they can't take marion to the final now obviously more we're going to talk about this a little bit more because this is going to come to a head later on when fall needs ammunition to try and stay in the game as we go through this and that will be a topic of conversation but first let's get into the reward challenge this reward challenge was one where they had to break into two pairs there were rocks whoever got the black rock they got to decide who they were
29:27 Going to be paired up with full gets the black rock you know he's got all the luck up until this point in the game wins all the immunities gets to choose who he wants he gets dino to be in his team as they do this reward challenge which was this big i don't know what you call it like a ball or a toll what do you call that as it was rolling down and that's like do this thing where they had to run up and down and catch it before it falls down basically keep it up in the air and ultimately the underdogs win this were you guys as shocked as i was that shade and marion pulled it off against fallen dino hell yeah how to but yeah it's like survival gods they always have to do the most absurd thing in last minute i feel like with survivor the last two out of immunity challenges they're always the craziest the underdog either always takes them or the one that is not supposed to win takes what is going on so it was a shocker and i was happy for shane and marian i never thought there will be anything physical especially together yeah i was i was definitely shocked to see them won this thing together but this reward challenge that they went on you know obviously a great experience it kind of was nostalgic to me in a way richard now i know you are too young to
30:47 Have watched it right from the start right but it kind of reminded me of survivor africa when they had this big safari or this helicopter riot with legs and victorinoid and it really gave me that throwback feeling to it we just don't see rewards like this anymore when it comes to survivor us they don't do it they don't really spend any money if they don't have to i think australian survivor tries but it's also not that level i do think we were helped by the fact that this was in our own backyard they could easily do it and obviously it was a promotion as well for people that could see the product placements of where to go and experience the whole thing but it was an awesome reward but it made me so sad richard to see what they had to do to these beautiful rhinos out there to keep them alive because obviously rhinos in africa they're you know an endangered species so they had to cut the horns off and i think that you know that would be very difficult for me to view if i was out there and i was quite surprised that we saw as much as we did on our screens because i feel like some countries would have been too sensitive to that yeah it was it was it was beautiful to watch and you know it's one of those moments that in a game that's so intense and you're always thinking who's blind's having you it's nice to have those small moments where you can detach from the game and you know enjoy that moment and there's something in just watching that happen that makes you think that you
32:08 Know even though survivors all apart being cut through evil and you know do whatever it takes to get ahead people also do that in real life by cutting off rhinos horns to you know do whatever it takes to survive you know because of our life is in psych we don't want to see it but you know life is not perfect then you know yeah it was extremely educational on top of that and also just to remind people that even though you have to do whatever you need to do to survive in life it wouldn't hurt to be humane about it you know knocking off the rhinos so they're also any pain while they cut off their noses in order to help them survive it was a humane thing to do missing very brutal but if a day is for their own good and how you do it also does matter and i think that also just speaks volume on how going forward the game and the center and the sensitivity around it kind of plays a role because you do not want to take mary out of the game but how do you let go for in a respectful manner and lunch mediator and also just seeing marian pleading and asking for if you're going to blindside me or vote me out just do not humiliate me it's it was a nice thing to see playing out this season oh yeah and i'll
33:28 Definitely touch on that because dino did that to two people both phil and marion he let them know before he cut them and i think that was a key part of his game and there's some positives and negatives to that which we'll definitely talk about i just want to bring up here zuman's comment zuma man saying let's be honest the u.s shows big brother and survivor have become soap operas with sprinkling of survivor here and there watching the season set major standards for every season and even for season 10 season 10 has got some big expectations to you know sort of live up to now that we've seen this season and i do agree it's i don't know like i'm gonna do a whole different video on the channel or maybe even a podcast depending on how it goes about how survivors of africa is comparing to the us and where i think the us can mean things and it's gonna be difficult to talk about 43 if it's going to be the same as 42 and 41.
34:21 Something's not quite felt right for me with the last couple of seasons of the us and i feel like it's not just 41 and 42. it started before that and then winners of war kind of you know get a little bit of a boost where we were like oh you know yeah it could still be good and then yeah i don't know it's different and australian survivor as well like there's certain things about it they need to get right but we don't want to be too negative about that let's just be happy that we've got a great survivor south africa show that hopefully gets renewed and we see another season off zuru man also says here yeah the rhino part was definitely a special experience just being able to watch was amazing and i think that you know to me it was quite shocking to see it play out and i think that they on purpose showed everything like the rhino physically getting to your home because it needs to be that shocking for people to realize that there is a crisis in africa right now and to raise that awareness which i think is such an important thing and it kind of took us out of the game there for a little bit like you said and so forth but what a powerful moment there back at camp full of dino they spend more time together they keep talking about the fact they cannot sit next to marion do you know says that falls into his plan because you know marion is plan b but phil is still plan a firm at this stage he does not want to sit next to full with that resume and one of the things that for me richard was quite interesting is that i realized
35:41 That you know for someone that was so paranoid in dino he really was playing with ice and his veins this season because to sit next to both full and also marion in a final four situation where he knew if he took both of them he may not win the season i mean it's debatable if he would have or not i don't know yet i haven't interviewed everybody yet from the jury but it's not easy to sit next to so many threats what did you think of the risky gameplay he played with so deep in the season yeah it was i think he was the one that was clinically insane to keep those many threats in the game at such a at the point end of the game but if anyone could do it's him because he's a super fan he's quite strategic and we can see how his social game stopped him from getting voted out and it did it's shocking how it went it went by and you know obviously as the episode goes we see you know everyone sort of like sort of like telling their story and obviously phil has this heartwarming confessional where he's like you know he's at that point where he's so close you know to winning the thing and his job is to make sure that his daughter watching back at home sees dad not giving up you know it's like it's you know even though the game is about being cut throat some sometimes those
37:01 Emotional sort of like kind of amazing moments do count and then we see dino saying that in many times in his life and i think he shared this personal experience of him losing his business and you know losing millions from that you know he feels like he sometimes gets so close to success and then he crashes and burns and it's like will it happen again this time can he win or will he crash and burn again like it was quite heartwarming and yeah you tear up sometimes yeah and also the fan expectation he spoke about that there as well like being this big super fan where people all had this big view that he was going to go out and win the show and having that on him feeling like he needs to represent to a certain level you know if i went out there i'm sorry to tell you guys i'm not playing for you i played for myself i'll probably be out first because of it but you know at the end of the day like if you carry the weight off the whole fandom on you that's some heavy shoulders to have and i think that can really play in your mind and he had that on him here this whole season but we'll talk about the journey definitely for both dino and shane towards the end because i think that they both wrapped it up quite well in regards to their final tribal council speeches but before the vote here or actually before this who do we have on the immunity one here we get shane winning the immunity for the first time yeah we get shane winning the immunity for the first time so how did you feel see
38:21 Your boy shane finally pulling out there was a deep breather like thank you can you come back and play the game hallelujah welcome back it was amazing and it also just like another roller coaster ride a little tourist in the game that you need because he was the one person that should not have won so him winning just now makes everything a reality that phil is going home or dinner is going home or marion is going home the biggest people remaining in a game will not make it to final three it was realistic it needed to be done it came at the right moment and my boy finally gets to win something yay yeah let me let me tell you guys this so at the end of the watch party the route came with that whole puzzle shade one there was five ten of and none of us could solve it like we had two hours three hours we couldn't solve it apparently it took shane around two hours to solve it i thought i'd be good at puzzles i'm sure dino did but he didn't win that for winning it good job well i'm so sad i left just before he came so i could have had a look at the puzzle myself i always thought i'd never be able to win the puzzles any case i don't think it's going to be my strength but it would be cool to have a go at
39:41 The puzzle out there because i did write this down it had 47 puzzle pieces and some of them i had a look at it on the screen had certain lines that were just slightly off and it was like little variations of color it wasn't even that all that different it's just like a different shade of color on it so it looked pretty intense from what i saw and that's another thing that was quite impressive to see from i guess this season was the fact that really the challenges have been really balanced there has been physical stuff there has been puzzles we see both and i feel like in some of the shows now it's another thing that survives africa does better australia doesn't care for the puzzles it's all about the physical and then i don't know the u.s have been a little bit also it's just endurance i feel like almost now it's been meh yeah you raise a good point and you know sometimes it's like it's like sad to see because we see an australian survivor they really value physical challenges and then we see sort of like usa survivor yes cabela also tried that puzzle and she also couldn't solve it even though she's a super fan and a genius at it and big props to sdn and child because they're involved in like building those puzzles for afrikaans amazing job but yeah i love that south africa does include the challenge part and also sort of like the endurance part and try to mix it up because you know that's a true test of a challenge be someone
41:01 That can win different types of challenges that you know involve not just your physicality or your challenge you know puzzle solving skills yeah i feel like that you is like small of our water sports they are really big fans of being in the ocean and swimming in an ocean most of their challenges involve water or the ocean that's a good point that's a really good point they do have more and obviously being in an island location it makes it safer we did this in the sunshine coast with these i believe very choppy sort of waves it's very strong currents there so it's not safe to do those challenges out on in the in the ocean and when you look at australian survivor they also weren't close to the ocean in their last two seasons but that might change as we start looking at this post you know pandemic type of era that we're moving in now maybe we can see more and more people actually go back to the island locations and we'll see that along coast here is asking on journey free plays podcasts he seemed quite open to play in a season of survivor essay in a theme fans are asking for waltz collide or war of the worlds please weigh in on this who do you want to see now long coast if you haven't seen this podcast myself and shannon or shannon yeah shannon gas we spoke about this for almost two hours we went on about who we'd like to see in the season such as
42:22 That but we probably will have to update it at some point because now this was before return of the outcast so maybe some of the survivor south african return of the outcasts will go in there i fought really hard for steffi and shannon didn't want her in at that time not yet but i feel like shannon would change that now after the season because steffy has officially become the person who has played survivors of africa for the most days i believe at 66 days i did write a note down for us at the beginning 62 days she's played 62 days shane has played 61 days and dino is sorry marion has played 57 dino rounding out the top four at 55 but stiffy has played the most survivor south africa so i feel like if there was ever that type of season for survivors of africa my nomination would be steffy who would you nominate richard and zoe to go and represent south africa in such a season yeah we obviously know zoe's choice yes what about the eyes all about the eyes easy let me think i think verna did a good job in this season i think he's one of the most highly regarded he guarded players and i'll also pull out a long well maybe long forgotten winner in graham so i think he'd do well oh yes lovely guy he was there he was there and such a nice guy i spoke a few words with him as well he had no idea where i was
43:42 Wasn't surprised but he was he was a he was a very nice guy actually as well to talk to so yeah all good calls i think that you know we do see here lanco saying he did watch it and to please do an update so yes we probably will do that and chappies 100 is still issue and in my mind chappies are still survivors of africa but dino maybe will be rivaling him for that pretty soon just because dino lives and breathes survivor south africa i think that as a brand ambassador he's going to be massive moving forward zulu man approves of steffy as well and then cabello is saying rob easily so there's two of you agreeing on that one logos to say maybe nicole from season seven i can see that and i think nicole from season seven was in our original list karan's name is also being brought up and i can see that i mean karan's another solid choice i think survivors of africa has got a lot of solar choices to go there but i think that this is a different podcast for us to talk about in the future and maybe that's a bit of offseason content talk about that because i do think we can revisit the team that myself and shannon put together and see if there is modifications we can make to that now that this season has finished but overall interesting thing happens here dino tells full that he is actually the plan he's the one that's going to go home he's not piercing there's no beers between them at this point but because of this dino
45:02 Actually makes his road to the end a lot harder for himself so i'm very interested to know zoe is honestly always the best policy in survivor because phil came for his throat after this at both the tribal council and in camp no it's not when you are playing the game i don't think so but wait for zoe's pleasure of course it's amazing tell the truth let it get into trouble so i couldn't watch the problem i said yeah go ahead dinner it was i don't think i didn't like that phil did that it just seemed very malicious a little bit dirty it was like a day to day to play i felt so bad for him because is that so close i feel like it made dinner's journey a little bit difficult but it also sealed his faith because if you can search on that information for so long and only share it with mary in the last minute you're not doing it because you care for her at that point you're doing it to get her post off to keep you in a game and play mine games with her it wasn't a good look on phil it wasn't a good play on phil but hey it's survivor you got to do what he has to do and it means getting dirty go ahead and get dirty yeah i think i'm gonna be saying the opposite of zoe's sentiment
46:22 I in my experience in terms of playing online reality games and watching them it's almost like when idols are now out of the game your best choice is being honest because someone is going to ask you at final trouble console you lied to me that's okay but was that line necessary because there's no idle play of you telling me that you know i'm going to be getting voted out so i think it is a good thing and maybe in tina's experience of playing online reality games came in hand here but then we saw phil actually use that as a weapon and i look like a kind person but i would have done exactly what phil would have done lychee and steel babes i agree and for me i think that i agree with you here richard and it's no surprise that you know you've got to use what is to your disposal in the game and sadly like i understand how outside this looks very bad i think that by fall after he got voted out being a good sport about it and saying you know even running back to the voting booth after he votes for full running back to say hey dino i still love you brother you know type of thing and showing that funny side to him again you know that yes he is still the person he was but this was purely game and i can see how a lot of people would hate the fact that marianne's skin condition was used as a gaming mechanic here but i think that marianne
47:42 Would be the first person because she didn't want to be a victim on the show she wouldn't want to be some she wouldn't want people to make her out to be a victim because of the fact that he used this against that she would have been very aware that potentially her having this condition in survivor it will be used at some point and i think that it was used a lot more than what we saw on the tv i think that what we saw on the tv was a mild version of what happened out there i'm sure a lot of people talked about it i'm sure a lot of gameplay revolved around it and the last thing she would have wanted to hear at that point was that you know if dino doesn't want to sit next to her because she was going to get a pity vote at the end so i think that phil did everything right to try and pin this remember it is lychee and steel now yes this is about a skin condition but marianne you know she knew this coming in that this was a possibility i would say you why put yourself in this situation if you don't want that to happen because i feel like no matter how many times you play it out it might have been even worse in some other countries that's what i'm trying to say because i feel like people still try to play with humanity even though we're cutthroat we still try to play with humanity this season yeah you have a good point i mean i had a chat with marion often she was like saying that she noticed that when tony used the skin condition she got a lot of flack but in the later parts of the game when full used the skin condition
49:02 As a weapon people seemed okay and chilled about it and she was talking about how sometimes being a female player you know your tears are looked at also as a bad thing but when a dude or male cries they're like oh that's so cute so vulnerable yeah it's like when females do certain things they're like i hate it but when dudes do the same thing like yeah i love that i'm gonna vote for that person it's like disparity you know no i just i understand her point of view however i do disagree over there a little bit because i feel like with tony when tony brought it up she was saying it to vote her out of the game because she won't be able to survive because of her skin condition she's weak and what phil was saying to her is that people think you might get a pt vote and that's different you're not voting you're ugly we're just worried and something that i also mentioned before this even happened then i am scared that when she gets to the end how will she wins it how would she talk about it how will she address it because you don't want to use it as a weapon for a pt party or pity vote but at the same time it's who you are how do you not address it so i was interested to see how she balanced it out and that element
50:22 Of people saying we feel sorry for you oh somebody insinuating that was always going to be a talking point in somebody's i give in some way it's just becoming a way of it and letting her know that hey there has been this type of conversation which i felt like it was unnecessary i feel like at that point you all knew those conversations were happening anyway so why tell her yeah that's great that's a great point and i mean listen it is one of those ones where i'm surprised to a certain degree as well that it didn't come off as worse though because there will i mean let's talk let's look at it this way it is the same sort of subject you know to use this as a game mechanic but that is also what puts a lot of people off from watching survivor in the first place like if i talk to people like my mom or whoever watch the first couple of seasons they don't like the lying they don't like the deceding they think that's all the show is about and it's not it's an element of the show but that's what puts a lot of people off when it comes to it so i'm surprised that more people didn't react in a bad way because he was still lying about dino and he was painting dino to be a really bad person dino didn't necessarily say outright that this is the thing that was gonna that this is why he doesn't want to take her you know he didn't say that he actually respected her game throughout and even said to her at the point when he had to vote her out and this is when we walk
51:43 Into the next part of this week and we might as well talk about it he does tell her as well that he's going to vote her but obviously at this stage there's much less of a risk because this is after he actually won an immunity there's no threat of him going home there's no reason for him to lie but he does make it clear that the reason he's not voting her out has got nothing to do with her skin condition it has got to do with the fact that she is a great player and that she probably played the best game this season he even says that he thinks she's probably the best player that survivors of africa has ever seen now that's up for debate do you agree with that do you think marion is player and no lies no lies is she the best player in the place of africa i'm going to hold you to a very tough answer here yes in as much as i love miriam but i do think there's other players like dino there's also been kiran there's also been a verna so we'll drop intelligent so i don't want to be you know maybe dino's doing some sweet talking therefore of a jury vote but she's a great player but she is a great player she's definitely a top tier player but i also thought it's debatable if she's the best player like let's not go overboard yet i'm not going to say she at first thought if i'm thinking about the zoe i'm also thinking to myself you've got robin tilley definitely i mean the guy won and
53:03 Still up until this point one in the most dominant fashion so you can't take that away from robin telly in my mind then you've got verna who was a mastermind godfather of his season and then you've got kiran from last season who was great and you've got chappies as well you know maybe not the biggest strategist but man of man is here great wrecking ball so there's a couple of players there i'm sure you know but then definitely the way marianne played this season we have to give her respect you've got to say she potentially is somewhere in the top five or the top 10 of all time i don't know if she's number one yet and maybe that's another podcast that we should do off-season and talk about who is the top players that we think should be out there but i did think that he was stretching it a little bit because you know at this point i don't know it's too early to say if she's the best he's a dandy she's the best ohlanco sustained maybe she's a long coaster saying maybe she's the top woman and that's a that's a good because all of the people that we spoke about were men just now and that's something i've noticed with survivor south africa is that they produce very strong male players and a lot of the times the females haven't stood out as much and i don't know if that's editing or how things are happening i would still make a case for steffy being up there i think she got taken out early because she's that great
54:23 Of a player i would still make a case for nicole from season seven rob season she was a great player she only lacked in my mind a little bit of self-awareness around being too self-righteous at the end which costed her the game which dino was a mastermind of not being self-righteous at the end if she could learn that a little bit i think she could be up there and who else i mean an issue is great yeah something great player i mean to me i loved her flipping back and forward riding the middle ground as she was going through the game so there are some great women as well but definitely if you look at the woman she's top five 100 maybe top three who knows we definitely need to talk about this in further depth okay zuma says here i love that she handled it like that honestly also right long i would say females she's top two or three cabello is saying i've got rob dino karan as some of the best players at this point i'd even have quran a tear below dino and rob yeah i mean and that's going to be interesting that's going to be an interesting one to debate and talk about towards the end cabello here saying that nicole lacked empathy a little bit but she's so cutthroat exactly what the game needs and i think she was very cutthroat to be honest but all right so we get into this final immunity challenge and they do something here that i love about australian survivor they
55:43 Bring in the family to watch the final immunity challenge so the family comes in they get to talk to the family while they're hanging on this board that every couple of minutes they keep cranking it up and the angle gets worse plus they get you know water in their face it becomes really slippery but zoe can you imagine being up there in front of people you care about and having to perform while they're there looking at you and you know you're so close to two million rand the anxiety of it all i'm so anxious for them i'm thinking if you feel like this you are failing in front of your loved ones like if you win you went in front of your loved ones it was such a high pressure situation i felt so strong sorry for them and the water element i feel like i think i try to draw these people water bomb these people on tv like what the hell this should be illegal what the hell they could know i felt really bad for them like no i do i would have done that completely off topic we just needed niko to laugh like tj levin from the challenge while they're getting this water in their face it would have made it so much better it was gonna be exactly yeah it's having fun watching them drown no [Laughter] evil mastermind but richard it was quite surprising because dino actually wins an endurance challenge and he didn't think he was going to ever
57:03 Win an endurance challenge i was i was so shocked i mean you know obviously his this challenge would best suit someone that is has a small stature but has like a lot of muscles you know maybe mary and i thought i thought mary would have won it but i also had a conversation with her when she explained that when she did that mud challenge some of the mud actually stuck on her skin and she it was obviously had to be ripped off and she had sores on her back so when she was doing that whole challenge it's almost like when she was going up she was scraping those wounds on her back and just bleeding and you know it was just tough and also i'm not sure if you guys noticed she also had to put zinc on her skin to sort of like protect her but then the moisture from it and the water also made it slippery like it was so hard for it to win so i'm glad she lost it as long as he as she did and then shane also for an old guy you know he really did amazing in that challenge but yeah and not just an old guy a big guy like i mean when i met shane at the party i was like hello uncle he was oh he was a tall piece of timber i didn't realize shane was that big of a guy you know so him being out there hanging on that thing must have been really painful as well so hats off to him like he said he was 20 years
58:23 Older than most people and he put up one hell of a fight throughout the season you know and i badly want to talk about shane's game but we're going to get to that towards the end here but at the specific community challenge after dina wins he gets to talk to his fiancee who's lovely by the way i got to speak to her a few times there and ask her what is it because i never get to interview the partner of a player so i was like what does it feel like to be on the other side of all this craziness and she's like this is her worst nightmare she does not normally like all the attention and all that kind of stuff but she's obviously there to support dino she had some lovely words clearly she was the person his rock that stood by him while he went through some dark times in his life she never left him and you know even nico asks did you think dina was going to be here at the end and she said yes she without doubting for a second she was the confidence he didn't have for him to come back and she's like i knew he could make it to the end i knew he could finish what he started and then she also here at the end they talk together and dino sort of finds again that stream within that conversation to say hey i promised marian something here it's probably gonna look really bad on national slash international tv but i'm gonna have to go back on this and she's like i've got you no matter what don't worry do what you need to do so richard what was it like to see this moment between them it was it was just so beautiful to watch because obviously
59:43 Tina is quite a strategic player he knows the right thing to do is to get rid of marion but you know it's almost like he was considering and not doing it and so many players have lost the game for making that one mistake at the end that literally cost him everything and thank god well that's the importance of having a family visit especially at that as such an important part of the game and thank god kirsten told dino to make the all-important decision because i feel like had he went with marion to the end it would have been quite maybe the best quality final two after robin nicole but you know would have made his journey much more difficult so yeah one thousand percent and it's also beautiful to like get a friendly visit at that stage because it was so important for him to make that move at that time and have someone like tristan to remind him on why he came to play the game it's not just about sitting at the funnel too and putting on a show for the fans you're not playing for the fans you're playing for yourself it was that moment where i felt like dino was no longer they know the paranoid the fan guy that we all love but do you know here i am and i'm here to win and take this money home back to my family this is a dino move and not a
1:01:03 Fandom move it was a smart move no delta but it was a smartest move you could make however i was looking for shane to win similarly because i wanted to see who he was gonna choose you know just put it on a thought another blender another problem another choice just one time let shane be the one to choose between taking marion or dinner which who do you guys think she i'm shane would have worked with well i know who you would have taken just by having had a conversation with a guy he said no do you know he was taking dinner no he knew he wasn't going to win against marion at the end another blind so yeah it would have been another blind side it would have been one for the ages yeah well we can ask him that question we can ask him we can ask him that question again i did speak to shane at the at the after show and i will ask him that again he is willing to come on the podcast and talk to us like a lot of other players that have reached out sadly with me being in south africa in the last couple of weeks which has been great for me on a personal note to catch up with family since i haven't seen them for three and a half years have not been so grateful for the podcast because
1:02:23 It meant that you know time wise has been hard to actually fit things in so for those that i haven't spoken to all of the players that want to chat i'm more than willing to chat to every single person that i haven't had on the podcast yet and shane would be one of those people that i'll definitely get on and i'll definitely ask that question because who knows it was it was a long night maybe we'd get a different answer straight up on that on record yeah you guys richard yeah i was saying yeah a lot of people would love to chat like stacey lee from season six even nico is interested to tell us like insights about the game so hopefully we get him on yeah nico is a is a definite we got to get him on like we got to talk to nico you know so all of them like stacey lee definitely happy to chat to her yeah it's been it's been such a great experience talking to these players and you get their insights and thoughts about the show and obviously like i've always said when you get players on the show it just enhances our knowledge as well because they've actually been out there they've experienced that we see a snippet of what these players are going through so one of the other things that makes me sad to do the four episodes per week normally last year i had a player every single week on the podcast with us recapping but because of it being four episodes that we do and one you know it's so hard to fit everything in if you've got to play it and as well it's hard to keep track and actually stay on course so logistically for the podcast it's difficult so
1:03:43 If we do something different if they stick to the four next year maybe we get to do some more players because i know there's a few players from previous seasons that would have loved to have recap this season with us as well so maybe that is something for next season then we'll see how things play out but we'll be better prepared for four episodes leroux and emini blindsided us this time with the four episodes per week i wasn't expecting it so even the podcast has got a little bit of a blind side before the season actually started but it was interesting at tribal council just pre-tribal council here you get everybody talking and shane says that you know he's not gonna scramble this late in the game because you haven't done the work up until this point you're not gonna get to the finals so again it was two very different approaches here by marianne being the more aggressive one trying to get into the final here but i think she knew that the writing was on the wall as soon as dina said that he had to choose his number one alliance member in life and that he couldn't prioritize marianne over kirsten yeah there's a moment where i didn't like shame that moment i was like shane come on do something yes you can see the writings on the wall you're almost there it's fine but it was also that moment where you wanted to shame the villain the joker to come up do something fight a little bit but it was like nah i'm good it's not just chill for next remaining five minutes
1:05:03 Before the show is over i was irritated because i really wanted more drama and chaos from shane that he was still come all the way up to the aid we felt no need to even fight or scramble or argue his way to anything he was just too content with whatever the outcome would have been well i could tell you this i could tell you this from the conversation i had shane didn't tell me anything about his game didn't tell me anything specifically of what he did he just said that he is desperate to talk on a podcast because he feels like so much of his game was cut out and wasn't shown on the editing floor so he feels like the editor did not do him justice and how he played the game and what he tried to do and i do think that shane played a good game and we'll talk about that pretty soon i'm happy to go to bat for shania because i think there's a few things i can see that he did really well but before we go into that because i mean obviously here marian does get voted out in the spot shen and you know it's going to be the final two an unexpected final two you know coming into the season i even told shane i know you don't want to hear this i know you're because i felt so bad seeing him sit there on his own while everybody's celebrating with dino in front of him you know at the finale party which is there's always going to be a loser but you know i said to him to be honest with you myself and richard and other people we'd love to even just be there like to have had
1:06:23 This experience but obviously like georgette sparkles or sparks has said i'd like to know what happened to shane in his life turned upside down somewhere i saw that on facebook someone started to go fund me for him so the gofundme is his daughter who's doing that and what kind of happened with shane i'm not too sure lifewise what it is what happened but i know that he lost his job as he went to go play this game and i don't know if it was because he went to go play survivor that he lost his job but also there was a lot of talk throughout all of this that shane is someone that is quite selfless in life even though it was an interesting dichotomy for me richard because he doesn't see himself as this person like even coming into this game he said that he lost all faith in his own humanity and his ability to have empathy for others and he felt like he wasn't that person but his friends and everybody kept saying that this guy does everything for everyone else like his friends would get angry from because he's that kind of guy that would put other people in front of him so clearly he is that caring guy and we just saw the evolved shame from 10 years ago where he maybe was this cutthroat selfish guy where this time he came a bit came in a bit older and he had different life experiences that brought that he brought into this game right he's not he's not stuck in time for 10 years back he's a different person now yeah i guess that's the advantage of being asked to play again but after a long time not just after one year like most of the people that played in season eight in season
1:07:43 Eight so you know i think a lot of people you know watching you know well when they saw the costume will go like shane is gonna be a villain and one of the things he said in his pre-season interviews that you know i'm just going to come in as a dad i'm going to be loving to anyone and he was like psych i'm going to be cutting throats and this and that but then when he played with the people he actually connected with him and like he said he found a part of him in everyone and that you know gave him faith in humanities and it was nice to see a different a different side to him and we've seen so many different sides to so many different players this season and that's the beauty of it you know the game it's still shocking i feel like somebody had to pinch me and wake me up because i could not believe the shame of god i was just waiting for the biggest villain my little joker to come out i even said oh my joker has a heart i didn't see it i'm like oh i love it and i hit it at the same time i can't decide well i'm going to continue on this conversation about shane but just quickly want to read this one here from olanko's please interview steffy dino said that there was something that made her vote for shane and it's up to her to tell the public if she wants to i have spoken to steffi she is willing to come on the podcast so she's one of the people i've actually had some words with so i'm sure we can make that happen at some point and if it hasn't
1:09:04 Been asked i will be sure to ask her i normally like asking people why they voted in a certain direction and obviously she was one of two people who did end up voting for shane the other person being kalani i believe those were the two people that voted for shane in the end and i'm glad he got some votes because my felt my thoughts on shane's game this season coming in right and this is why i said to him and i kind of forgot where i was going with this before sort of hanging over to you guys but i said to him like coming into this i did my pre-season thing on all the players coming to this and i gave shane next to a zero chance of making the merge right yeah i just thought the guy was gonna be too old he's not gonna be able to hold it up in the challenges i thought that people would see him this massive target coming in this game because he played such a cutthroat strategic villain game and he in my mind was so much more dangerous than marion when it comes to threat level coming into this game so i thought clearly they're going to clip him before they clip her and to take away one of her tentacles in the game but he still found a way after being out of that first vote to fit in with people that were 20 years younger than people who didn't speak their lingo and that is something that i think that people do sort of not always appreciate you've got to really respect these older people that play the game that can fit in with the younger crowd that can go that long and be a chameleon and i think that him being a bit older he didn't feel like he had the social capital this time to necessarily make all of the moves himself so he had to work in the shadows
1:10:24 More like he said he had to play a passive game one of the problems i have with survivor players and one thing that we as fans can really take from shane's game in my mind is that you know you've got to play to the situation if you're going to go out there and you're thinking i'm going to be this i'm going to be this nice uncle in front of them but then i'm going to slip throats and then you go out there and the game doesn't allow for you to do but you still do it guess what you're a pre-merger you're out before the merge he had to adapt his game and i thought he played in my mind the best game that he could with the social capital that he had being out of place being the older guy this time he was the old guy last time he's an even older guy this time did great in the challenges put it up against felix him pitching that you know he put that up against felix going up against this guy that was clearly a lot more physical than him younger than him but he was doing that for fulham dino not to go home in that spot you know he was protecting his tribe mates who had no allegiances to that early and then the other problem here richard is that he couldn't play the same game because everybody knew his game now we always criticize right we criticize russell hans for instance who's one of his previous favorite players i don't know if it's still his favorite player i'll ask him that because i remember he used to love wrestling back in the day maybe he doesn't feel that way now that he's a bit more empathetic you know because russell doesn't have much empathy but you know russell hands has played this game four times he likes to forget about the fourth time but we all know he's played four times twice when he came back he played
1:11:44 Exactly the same like he did the first two times and he was out early every single time i firmly believe if shane played the same game he would not have made merge this time so he had to adapt his game i know we're critical on him but i do think shane played the best game that he could with the situation that was in front of him that's my thought on shane's game and how he played yeah and then we do i do have my favorite moments of him being a villain like going through phil's bag and he's like oh here we go just remind us again on why we love you so much just a little tasty here in the not too much but just dropping a little bit of excitement so yeah i do agree with you on that one i mean the guy's played the second most days now just after steffy you know he's up there he's in my mind he's pretty solid even still for an all-star season like i can still see this guy based on his first performance based on the second performance to come back and play again and i could you know i could see shane change this game again because not many players can do that you know there's not many great players like you see boston rob boston rob has played how many times six times now five times the guy plays the same game every single time but yet we see him as one of the best but he doesn't know how to change his game shane has shown that he can innovate and him innovating with his daughter before he went out there to say this is how i want to play and his daughter's saying guess what dad the bad guy doesn't want anymore you
1:13:04 Need to become a different person and him and mending it i thought that was a brilliant pitch towards the end and i do think we missed some of his pitch because all he talked about was his own personal growth instead of his moves but i feel like when i ask people yeah when i asked people they said that one that tribal council went on for over three hours so clearly there was things cut out that we didn't see in his pitch i would say yeah i mean yeah his fish definitely like the strategy side of things which why i felt like dinner kind of knocked it out of the park because yes the personal relationship he has it's amazing but then we didn't get to see him staying up till early hours of the morning waking up to put wood in the fire we only hear about these things we don't see it so then we do see him having strategy conversations here and there but he doesn't explain where things went wrong or how he was unable to make those moves or why he agreed with the moves that he agreed on i do feel like he did lag a little bit when it came to selling as he struck the chickens i think dino did a better job in setting his moves and justifying why he did what he did based on the edit right because i still believe there's things we did not see and i think that dino did but i think also not to go too hard on the edit because it's been great all season at
1:14:24 The end of the day there is a story to be told and shane's story to the jury was the one that was of personal growth of thinking that he was this hard person and his faith in humanity being restored him caring for these people a lot more than what he thought you know being friends with them for the rest of their lives those type of things those were that was shane's story in this one where you know dino was this person who played the strategic game he was the super fan who came in did all the technical things let's talk a little bit about dino's game richard what impressed you about dino's game so much because there's quite a few people who believe that dino now should be seen as one of the best yes so we can even chat about what happened when he blinds when he made his first move and i told him this when i met him that i know you won but i do think that even move was an incorrect move it was the right move but it was done too early because i feel like then you know keeping trouble homogeneity before a swap was an important thing but i mean he won so i guess that was that's the he made the right choice and then we see how when shay when sheamus is sort of like sort of like on the revenge mission to try to get dino out shona and kilani go to dinan we're like we're not gonna vote you out we're gonna get the guy that wants you out so he was playing that social game right to the dino demeanor of him striking his shoulders and having those puppy eyes
1:15:45 You know the emotional manipulation of crying to marion and meryl to keep him in the game there's been so many little things that you know he was doing to you know lowest that level and even getting people to give him an idol you know like so many things you know in his journey at the end and i do think he's quite a deserving winner chilled gameplay chilled gameplay but you know i do think he did an awesome job to win and i can actually relate to it i can actually relate to it with that what do you think of what zoe what do you think of dino as a player i like dino and i am a fan of him however i personally do not like the weak poor come on okay it's time for you to own your now on your miss and own it why did you still continue to don't play it i was glad that stiffy pointed it out that it was kind of troublesome the way that you keep on portraying yourself at some point i was justifiable but sometimes it became a little bit too much just like just take a take a chill pill
1:17:05 But other than that he was amazing and he did take it all for the fans he did he played an amazing game i do not see or i cannot take him on the move that he has to make but i do feel like sometimes he did hide a little bit behind marian which was good because and he did see her as a threat and he was able to play her and hide and be her shadow and not even get to the po and convince her to actually say you will sit next to me even though he knew from his side there was no way that was ever going to happen but to be able to deceive her to that level it was beautiful to see and just to note that no matter how the moves were made do you know what's going to be the final two mary was going to take him shane was going to take him phil was going to take him anyone who is always going to take dinner so it's nice to know that no matter how the game was played he was always going to end up at final two i don't think anyone can say that one thing firstly one thing i want to say about d node right is that i don't think i've seen anybody sort of put this story together in survivor as well as dino did like i mean he sat down there wrote out all the names of everybody that was voted out wrote out his own journey during that same time so that he could construct
1:18:25 A story in his mind that was cohesive from the beginning to end that made sense to the jury and he looked at that as a fan if i was someone that sat on the jury and i didn't know someone else's game what how would i like to be pitched to and brought into that story in a way where it's not foul it's not feeling like my game is being diminished and i think that's something that a lot of people at final tribal council don't get right they think that they need to brag about the moves that they've made and that they need to be the one that is ultimately going to be the best player or had all the moves kind of like kalani thought she always was the one that had the moves or was making things at center time but dina did it in a way where he wasn't bragging he wasn't boasting he was humble throughout it said hey i don't think anybody can say that they owned a move themselves but we were collective and i was a part of that collective i was always in on the vote i really appreciated that from dino i appreciated the fact that he knew how he was gonna be perceived as the paranoid guy he played into that his dino demeanor being this meek guy was things that he took no doubt if we spoke to him he would tell us he took that from tony blackhorse because donnie blackwood was walking beach trying to be smaller trying to always being not this threatening guy like i'm sure the guy took notes and some of these things that great players before him did because he's that big of a fan that he probably got ideas from that but i will say one thing i don't agree that he wasn't always the target
1:19:45 Dante made it clear that this guy was going to win the game and he put a target on him as soon as he swapped from one tribe to the other so in his first tribe he was good he hung back he didn't have any heat on him because he had felix and fuller ahead of him who was sort of protecting him and was bigger targets to a certain degree than what he would be because he wasn't necessarily the person who was making all the moves from the start but then when he got into the second tribe suddenly dante told him you've overstayed you're welcome you're out of the game and he had to find a way to worm in between dante and marion to me which is still crazy because dante is someone that marian's in love with she said so openly if she was ever on a tribe with him he would be the work husband maybe he did not do himself any justice by being a little bit too abrasive sometimes and trying to get his point across but still he found that way he found that way to warm himself into the hearts of meryl and both marion to take him in to get to the merge and then when he got to the merge as soon as he got rid of dante he got rid of his biggest opposition and i think even for me at times i've looked at dino's game and he plays so much with emotion and playing on people's emotion and pretending to be this meek person and really getting the hard vote and that's how he is in life as well he's a really good and empathetic person and i think that empathy resonated well with people like miriam and meryl that's why he gravitated towards them but he found a way in to get to the end and that's that secret sauce
1:21:06 That dante talked about what is it because dante didn't even know until the end under was like you're good but i don't know why you're good and i've looked at dino at some point like that i'm like you're a good player you clearly get your way to the end you're clearly good strategically but why are you so good because in my mind you know dino i love dino he's a great winner he's going to be a great ambassador i think that he's the best person to win this season because believe me this guy is gonna keep promoting so the survivors of african brand for many years to come if it's on like no one else but i still find it hard to look at him and say is dino the best winner i don't know if he's the best winner but is he the best person to win for survivors of africa 120 percent drop and tell you is not going to put in this effort that dino is going to put in moving forward to build this brand i can promise you that and i love rob as well but rob's you know i don't think rob's that level of a fan you know he's a fan but he's not that level of a fan like dino i've never seen anybody engage with as many people as them so therefore i'm happy for dinner because it truly is a win for the fans for us yeah absolutely it's amazing to see and you know his dms he has a 100 i think he was like a hundred and something people because he was scrolling through his whatsapp and i'm like how i have replying to so many messages but he's a fan of the show so that love for the show gives him the energy to literally reach out to a lot of people and what a guy so you're saying something yeah i'm gonna
1:22:26 Miss him tweeting me and retweeting my tweets can you play this game again that's the saddest thing about being a winning that's the saddest thing about dino winning we probably won't see him back on our strings for a while exactly that sucks but it was considered oh you guys richard i was going to say zoe but who doesn't really retweet you first it was nicole you know i wouldn't be surprised to see in season 10 to 11 at this point yeah i wouldn't be surprised at all zuru mania says agree throughout the game he definitely capitalized on the emotions and sympathy cabello and saying that i think the gameplay is a good point but i honestly feel like people got very attached to dino on a human level which as i said is that empathy side of him because he generally cares it came to a point where he backed up everything he is as a person with great strategy and then also saying personally if you beat me i also consider if i can't win then who and i believe dino was the who in the juror story like a person that they would feel good about winning towards the end of the game and man like i mean it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy like at all like honestly the amount of interaction he has with the fans the fact that he's gonna build this brand for many times many years to come it all makes me feel very good about this season very good
1:23:46 About dina winning i do think you know now that we've spoken about this for quite a while here we're going to have to sit back and dissect at some point where does this leave us who are the players we want to see come back but i'm going to put a few of you on the spot before we go into the points before we look at our final points for the season and see who won this season as a whole on the on the list i think it's maybe a bit anti-climatical because we know a few of the players that have made it to the end but we'll still do it in any case i want to ask you guys zoe we'll start with you who do you think if you could choose you know two players who's the two players you're bringing back if you're a producer if you're a casting member to come back for all stars in season 13 who comes back oh my god okay i'm gonna balance it out and i'm gonna say one i want shauna no i cannot get enough of shawna i'm sorry i cannot her adult still lived on even when she wasn't there her strategy might play and her little creativity still made it to trouble cancel and she made a dumb mistake what's the typical total story she makes one move and takes her out of the game not even two just one move is just out this time around she went to the wrong tribe which she can clearly see she doesn't have any numbers but she wanted to
1:25:06 Live the underdog story it was like shawna this is not fantasy go to with the numbers i add so i would like for her to come back just one more time just one more time stick up but lisa and stephanie but i feel like stay freaking pray for too long give somebody else a chance and i'll rather give palisa at chess because she didn't make it to merge this time around so palestine that's your choice i just want to say before i go to richard for this one if shona ever makes the merge i'd be shocked like just i just don't think she can make the minute and i'm happy for her to call me out like i just think she's that kind of player that can't help herself you know and she's going to do something again that gets voted out so for me personally i'm with you on the police i vote palestine as a queen like to see her come back awesome she did she was again done dirty a little bit here this season by dante and his antics i would love to see her play the game again and i think she's got more to give shona i love there's a person i spoke to even at the thing there's nothing about that i don't know if it's a player i need to see her at this stage again that's just my personal thoughts on that but if she comes back and she proves me wrong that's what i live for i love to be proven wrong richard who's the two players that you would like to see come back i think definitely phil is going to be coming back i like i think actually if not once or twice came to him and i was like i am 100 sure you're going to be back for all stars because
1:26:26 I mean he played an amazing game everyone loves his journey where he came against all odds to you know you know he was so close to winning but it didn't happen so i'd love to see him again and who would be a second option obviously dino but marion as well are kind of obvious options but if i were to pick a wild card it would be one of my surprisingly kind of favorite players now in felix because i just love the guy like when i look at him i kind of see myself because you know he represents a lot of us and i like his transformation of playing the first time and how he sort of like emerged or well going through a metamorphosis to be this likeable good strategic player it's lovely to see so yeah i'm happy for you so the two people again it's full and felix so phil felix palesa and shona at the stage so i won't say any of them i normally would have gone for merrell like you know i love meryl i spoke to merrell for a very long time at the finale party she's an awesome person she's an awesome person even had the opportunity to get on the dance floor for a couple of dances and get the legs you know going again which was good after so all the cobwebs of being in over in new zealand you can't really do much it was good to get out there and she's an awesome person but meryl
1:27:47 Told me she would never play this game again so therefore i can't put it out and maybe if we do an interview with meryl she might say something different but at the party she said i'm done i've done my dash she said she found out in herself that she doesn't have what it takes to get to the end because she doesn't want to play that level of cutthroat so it's just not within her to do that so it'll be interesting to talk to her at a later stage i hope she changes her minds in two three years from then and then she will be in my list but sadly because of that because people would be shocked if i didn't pick her because she was my favorite you had to win this season and i normally back my favorites no matter what you know and she said she's not coming back so because of that if i had to look at people that i would like to see come back marion has not been mentioned we have to see marion come back after the season she's played a great season like i do need to dissect her game proper to see where she sits wise but i think she's definitely earned a spot on an all-star season and not to have marion on the if she wanted to play would be an absolute travesty you might have a better idea if she wanted to play because you spoke to her more than me richard yes so she told me that she is most likely not interested to play and i talked to her father and her boyfriend and they also had a similar indication that i think once you've played the two times i think you know it's best you hang your coat because she actually is interested in like starting your family so
1:29:07 You know playing the game might you know interrupt that process so yeah we'd all love to see her play again but you know obviously personal life comes first so good luck with her in terms of that family and child bearing group so well i'll tell you what marion's niece will play one day she told me this little daughter i don't know how old she is very cute she had a she had a buff you know already when she got there and apparently dino gave it to her so i was like okay what's auntie marion giving you now so i might of course apologies didn't do it on purpose because clearly you know dino is playing a little bit amnesia playing that emotional card again getting the buck to the little niece but she said to me she'd love to play so maybe if marion doesn't come back we get to see her niece play the game sometime in the future but who knows i mean hopefully survivors of africa is still on for 10 years and marianne can come back when she's done the whole family thing and she's got a couple of you know daughters or sons and started a family life you know and maybe we see a different marian dare i say maybe also like a more emotional like shane you know empathetic area i don't know if we could ever see that because i think as soon as marion gets on the island it's gloves off she plays a cutthroat game and i do love that about him for you so yeah marian's my number one i'll still keep it because she didn't tell me she wouldn't play so i'll ask her and if she says that maybe it's different and then i feel like we're taking quite a few dante dara say dante
1:30:27 Because you know if dante comes back and plays again i think the first person he targets people are just going to be like we need to vote him out he's out there and he's like this person is giving you i'm telling you i've seen it twice i don't think people will not even if he does it in such an abrasive manner how do you have the guts not to follow through on the hit that dante is putting out there after being right twice he's a messiah he is truly is a messiah i loved it and his story the way that he was told back to back not back-to-back but in debate two seasons and each one of them he told everybody who the winner was nobody believed him and just watched the truth unveiled it's crazy how can he be so right all the time it's ridiculous it is crazy well let's get into the final points i certainly don't have the tier list here ready on my computer but i'll talk you through who we had left in our teams coming into this finale week we had for team zoe shane phillip left in that team and we had for team chris dino marion and then team richard had kalani coming into the final week so because of that there has been a bit of movement here on the point side of things let me have a quick look so overall let's talk about
1:31:48 The overall sort of things that stood out for the season obviously winner gets 50 points that was dino shane ended up getting 25 points as a runner-up but then we also had some extra bonus points for certain special categories throughout the season so most confessionals went to dino at the end of the season dino ended up on 107 confessionals by the end of the season which was more than anybody else second was full on 102 and marion on a hundred so dino cleaned up shot there with 25 bonus points most individual immunity wins obviously went to full with four individual immunities one short of tying the record for most individual immunities in the season but definitely a challenge beast this season like everybody kept calling him then also for most advantages found this season we had dino again in the top bracket there for most advantages found so 25 points to him i believe he found three in total and then least votes casted against them take a guess who have the least votes casted against him there were two people tied for this one guys no who do you think richard i don't know shona had least votes against her so full and shona three votes each
1:33:09 Maybe she is a good choice to come back and play another season she only had those three votes casted against the in the episode that she actually ended up going home and you know did full vote in a different way she would not have gone home so phil kind of costed her game in that spot so i feel like maybe they're i'm being a little bit harsh on shona after looking at that so who knows maybe i'm the harsh one now say exactly okay she'll win something in life [Laughter] all right so final points here final points here for the season and coming into third place by quite a distance daddy we're here richard you were 322 points all up for the season your top point getter for the season ended up being felix at 72 points and you really didn't have much coming into this last week with having kalani who overall only had 24 confessionals by far the lowest of anyone who went into this final week with other people almost you know double or you know four times the amount of professionals she had it really hurt you coming into this last season but second place and remaining in second place team zoe on 495 points so five points short of cracking the 500 point category and then in first place myself at 559 so i had about a 65
1:34:29 Point leap on you and the reason for that you guys wouldn't believe this but dino with all the bonus points and everything coming into the end of the season and winning 255 points he got me half of my points in my team coming into this finale week an insane amount of points the closest person to him being full with 195 points who was then team zoe's top person here and clearly dino and phil really they were the two biggest players when it came to the point system this season by far i mean marion was at 120 so there was about a 80 point gap between full and then full and dino had about a 50 point gap between them so great work by the no beer salons this season thank god for phil that guy is such a true entertainer i can just sit and listen to his confessions all day long he is hilarious i'm definitely gonna miss confusions yeah olanko is here saying does anyone know the name of dante's podcast i think it's called dante de villiers or something like that i'm not too sure but he's got one that he does that's not survivor related and he talks about life and stuff like that in general and then like cabello said i'm sure but i think he postcasts with jacques there is the second one that jack and him did on instagram about survivor last season i don't think jack did it on
1:35:49 His own this season called something killed the rover or something like that i don't know you'll have to go check out yeah i think it's curiosity yeah curiosity killed the rover is the survival one so go check that out but if you do go to dante's instagram i do think he's got a link to all of his different socials and things that he does and he also did say to me he would be open to doing the challenge nice finally yes go and take the challenge oh my god and i hope you meet bananas or piss bananas off oh that'll be wonderful to watch i could i could see that daddy would be funny as hell on the challenge to see him mixing with the americans will be well fed and marisha also said she's very interested in playing the challenge so it would be nice to see her from marisha from season eight so nice well i need to get marisha back on the podcast at some point to talk about that we need to do something because i feel like marisha would also do really well and steffy on something like that you know those would be the players i know rob wants to do it maybe we get some survivors of african players on the challenge in the future chappies wants to do it all the challenge beasts i don't want to do it yeah you're gonna do the challenge though let's go let's it's a challenge who wouldn't
