The Challenge 40: Finale Review

0:00 A [Music] [Music] hello everyone welcome back to the dollar F take Channel on YouTube where kuna and I've got the TNT takes for you on the challenge 40 that is right the season is over Kahuna and it's been about 3 or four weeks since the last time we spoke so we've got to discuss everything we got to talk about everything that happened since we left it off I think it was an episode before the end of the year and before we get into that kuna how have you been I'm well man I'm doing really good you know obviously we took out we haven't talked for a while because of Christmas New Years you know some people were traveling South Africa and having a wonderful time some people were at home working and stuff you know but bloody shots fir early on early coming in with the shot obiously had I'm hoping I'm assuming and we haven't chatted but I'm assuming you had a great time

1:20 Oh mate I had the best time going on leave and obviously you're more aware than most people you work closely with me on the podcast and doing the livs and things like that I was stretched heading into the end of the year I was I was feeling it work was full on I do a lot outside of work as well like I've started doing my own business Stuff Plus Fitness you know and then also dating at the same time so you know trying to fit all of that into one place and then doing the lives and committing to it has been a huge commitment and I really enjoyed the couple of weeks back in South Africa catching up with friends and family and it also just gave me an opportunity to really reach shs the B batteries creatively you know I think coming into this year because you know I really hope that we can continue to grow the nullify te Channel I want to put a lot of effort into it going into 2025 so obviously have been thinking about all of that as well while I was on leave but it's good to have you back kuna it feels like all times you and I back to talk about the challenge it's been about three years now of us doing this what a three years it's been what a what a three years has been it's been absolutely insane started with challenge Australia and then we get to 40 like the you know the big one so the big one the big one and obviously heaps of news coming out with the challenge Allstar Rivals coming out so much reality TV

2:41 Happening at the moment you and I spoke a little bit about it beforehand Deal or No Deal Island traitors Australian survivors so much content if you're a reality TV fan is happening right now and you know I'm trying to cover all of it so for people that are jumping in on this live and that are listening to this I do have some news I do have an update and I do want to start with that in the podcast before we even talk about everything that has happened over the last couple of weeks I am going to change a bit of the format on the channel for this year and I'm going to be focusing a lot more on short form video moving forward so there will still be lives but lives will be a little bit more sporadic compared to what we've done at up until this point so you know hopefully Kahuna will still jump on from time and time and feature cuz I'd always love to have kuna on to talk about the challenge and any other reality TV show that we have at the same time but one of the things that I sort of thought about over the last couple of weeks has been that you know the channel is sort of stagnated for me in recent times and a lot of that has come down to the fact that it's been hard to cover every single show and I've actually just on a personal note have really struggled to commit to the lives I meano there's a couple of times we've had to reschedule and you know that better than most so because of that I really want to commit to the channel and the way that I can do it is by boxing

4:01 Smarter and doing these short form videos like I've been doing over the last week and I'm going to go all in on that it doesn't mean that things won't change and in the future we may go back to doing more lives but I just want to try something different Kahuna like you know I feel like you know Madness is trying to do the same thing over and over and trying to get a different result so heading into 2025 we're going to be trying things differently and you know but it's bit of sweet for me K because I really enjoy talking to you when it comes to the show like it wasn't an easy decision to make get my redundancy pay out redundancy payout you know you got a mic out of it at least you got the mic yeah no look I totally understand like I know how much of a commitment it is obviously anytime I've hosted one of the reasons why I love being on the TNT is cuz I don't have to do all of the work which you so happily take on and I know when I fill in or when I do a show that's you know it's a lot of work and I totally get where you're coming from and if you can find holes in your schedule holes in your life to make this still happen then I'm going to back you man I'm going to support you I'll be on the lives when you need me I'll fill in when whenever you want whatever you need I'm here for you but it is a little bit Bittersweet I'm a little bit sad to not be enjoying our live chats obviously the people

6:41 Have been with me the most consistently throughout that time so it really weighed on me and that's why I've plugged mak's Channel I'm trying to get maky to do his own thing there's a certain level of ownership that comes with having your own channel and a certain level of you know creativity that you have that's fully in your control core when you've got your own channel and you can you know you get satisfaction out of putting content out there and I really want you to continue on and to continue to feature on the channel and I want to conf feature on the Kahuna Channel whatever that's going to be called I want to be on your channel as well because I always look back at you know when I did my channel and I went in a different direction to start the nullify take Channel Chantel and Drew were such big helps to getting it off the ground and I've always appreciated them so much for helping me and you know I want to do the same for both you and mcky and I don't want this to be the end but I want us to be moving in a different direction and collaborating in a different way in the future if that makes sense yeah absolutely like it's weird to think that it has been 3 years but like it's certainly like yeah we've you've given us enough where we can especially maky myself we can do our own thing I'm just like lazy so I don't know no I don't feel so bad I'm like I'm like the mama bird

8:01 Who's kicking the Kahuna out of the nest saying you got to learn to fly right now and you got to you got to do it's not lazy I just have you know three kids and a wife and all I get it's a lot of work and you know the amount of work that goes into it so but yeah like listen I don't want it to be all sad Chris saying my first live back and while I hear this news it seems like I've cursed the lives yeah like I said like it's not the end of kahuna being on the show talking to me who know's going to come back and talk to me in a different capacity like I'm going to be doing lives but I want this year specifically I want to put so much content out there one of the things kuna that stood out for me is I've we as a combined team have nearly done 600 videos we're going to do 600 in the next week we're going to hit that as uploads I want to get to a point where you know I double that or put another 300 in the next year and the way that I can put that energy into it is by doing the shorter form videos cuz I feel like the same amount of effort that goes into doing five shorts or shorter form videos is the same mental about mental capacity that goes into putting one life together so I'm really feeling optimistic that I can that I can do more you know on the channel and sort of put content out in a different way so the ratio is going to be different we may have six short form videos to one live a week or one live every two weeks you know type of thing but there's still going to be live

9:21 Content on the channel it's just going to be a little bit different and I would love more than anything else kuna to get my lives to align with the US audience because we both know the US audience people like Britany people like Chris everybody that comes back you know for each season to listen to us you know they come back and listen to us at this time in the morning and I want to be able to box a little bit more clever so that we can do it at a time that's suitable for the for the US audience as well absolutely all right let's see what blood money is saying here so blood money is saying Chris K I really hate the kavo twist it needs to be buried and never be seen ever again also kunar asked if he's watching deal on No Deal Island season 2 with David canat not yet right kuna but you're going to be watching it you have to if you want to feature back on the lives you got to watch these hearing how good it is which is which is a you know I have to watch it like because it is good I know that you know I'll I'll watch it I'll binge it for sure yeah I definitely want to bring you like even if you're only watching one or two shows you're coming back on you're going to be doing some content with me so but I wanted to get that out of the way to let people know that we're changing it so if they see that there isn't the weekly recap lives for the challenge next season that is why we're not going to be doing it moving forward but let's get into the last two episodes here

10:41 Of the challenge and maybe one thing I wanted to know from you even before we got into it kuna how did you feel about the karia versus Tori elimination heading into the final were you satisfied that you finally get what the fans wanted the big showdown between deal your girl and car Maria my girl with your girl winning out in this situation do you feel like the record has been set straight look I watched your short video about it so I was like watching going oh no Chris I liked it I didn't like it from the perspective I don't I didn't have that closure that satisfaction that you were talking about the two goliaths going against each other as far as the goat of the women is concerned or at least you know the goat and then the upcoming or the potential Challenger or that sort of thing and we'd been waiting for that for a while there seemed to be a bit of a rivalry if not amongst them then definitely amongst the fans and I thought that the elimination itself the challenge itself without the buildup of Cara versus Tori and all that I thought in and of itself it wasn't too bad it was it wasn't the right one for the epicness of Cara versus Tori but I do feel

12:01 Like Standalone you're in water there's not much you can do but I did feel like that one as far as mixing it up goes for the season to have one that is just pure like strength of will perseverance like really just how much do you want this kind of challenge as opposed to throwing stuff like athletic it was really just about how long can you stay here how much do you want this unfortunately it means that someone who can tread water or is naturally floaty like myself I could I could lay there for hours and then and be totally happy it wasn't fair but I did feel like it had that ele the challenge is never fair the challenge the challenge is never fair like the challenge is always going to be one person's skill set is going to you know it's going to be suited to one person's skill set and not another and that's why the person who's the most versatile or the most allrounder like a Jordan for instance is in the discussion is goat after this season and we'll talk about that but you know the more versatile you are the more different things you can actually do the more bows you have within your quiver you know you're going to you're going to actually end up doing well on the challenge and that's what happened here I wasn't happy with the result in the end but to be honest I feel like car Maria looking at this from home afterwards seeing the final take place over seven legs

13:21 Of swimming kilometers we're not talking little bits of distance she would have not had she would not have stood a chance like you know Tori didn't do much Tori ended up dead last as well but I think Maria like she was probably happy sitting at home that she tapped out at the spot yeah it would have been a tough final for her for sure and potent like it's one of those things like what is worse what impacts Legacy more going out before the final when you didn't even make it there but at least you know you didn't you know final or getting to the final which is obviously but just having a really poor performance I don't know like it's a it's one of those things you know where it's little bit of a little bit B 100% Britany says here that I really liked the format of this final visually it was so cool to look at I don't hate the twist as much as others but it would have been better without it we will talk about that Chris is saying here that I would have preferred if that Alim was in a pool or something for safety reasons but I like to return to an endurance-based challenge I don't miss the not miss I don't mind the elimination I thought it was a little bit lazy but I can understand why they did it in the sense

14:41 That I mean they were on an island and they were away from the arena so they had to do something and there was a lot of water so I guess make the water your obstacle and in some ways it was a great qualifier to enter the final like whenever I do Spartan races kahun I don't know if you've ever told you this for you to actually even get on the course you've got to get over a wall just to get into the starting lineup so you have to earn your right to start the race and if you can't get over this wall you don't run so it's kind of like that in a messed up way K Maria didn't punch the ticket into the final but yeah I just felt empty after this showdown like I hope we get another Tori versus K Maria Showdown but I kind of feel like the beefer squash between the two of them now so I don't know if it will have the same sting in it if they do let's see what Britney's saying here great Point Chris I always have to remind myself that the challenge is inherently unfair because they do such a range of activities and all the challenges are so different very true very true now Kahuna this final overall I was a massive fan of it I love the fact that they changed it up you know we've seen many finals where they've had to run long distances with marathons we've seen finals where they've had to climb mountains and things like that this final taking place over seven legs of Swing we've never seen that before

16:02 And this was the challenge 40 it was not supposed to be easy it was supposed to be something that was difficult it was supposed to be you earning it yes did it lean into Jordan's skill set 100% but I kind of loved it I loved it h i didn't like I did like when I say I didn't like it I think it was obviously incredibly challenging it's so hard to swim like I'm not a swimmer so even looking at that I was like oh my God that looks insane but I felt like that the unevenness that we talk about was too skewed what like too like kylin is kylin was like it's not even he's not even playing the same game it's not it wasn't fair in the slightest that someone who can swim like Jordan versus someone who can't swim and the entire finals it's not like one section or one leg the entire thing all swimming all the time and that's tough man like that's what that's why someone like Michelle beats a Rachel and beats a Tori like great for like awesome she did an amazing effort but we all know deep down like who's a better Challenger really and

17:22 Especially in a final like it was just to me too skewed in one way and not enough for anyone to really touch Jordan at all yeah I think for from a Jordan perspective it makes a completely sense like no one was actually even close to him and Derek's strength was running he could run with the best of them and then the same with kyland who beat Jordan in the minial and also I think in another endurance daily as well and was going toe-to-toe with Jordan throughout the whole season but to me I still like it kuna I know it was skewed in his favor but I definitely don't think that the challenge Gods out there when they created the season from the start of the Season thought what's the best thing we can put in the end that's going to benefit Jordan to win the season I just think they wanted to try and throw something different at the competitors and they evolved the show in a certain way where I think people like kyin this is kin's first final ever and he had to go up against some really tough competition in Jordan and bananas and Derk who proved himself this season as well and he got found out on the swimming portion of this Kahuna so I think someone like K you know you know he's got an OCD personality he's never going to get found out on swimming again like I bet you that man is doing overtime swimming lessons right now and he's going to become a better Challenger for it

18:42 So I kind of like the fact that they're evolving and that they're challenging these challenges in a different way and that they're saying to them every year you're not going to be able to game it you're not going to know that it's a run you're not going to know we're going up a mountain we could do something completely different and this was still something that required real athletic skill you know I would have sucked personally doing this final I would have done no better than kylin espe like especially over seven legs I think I would have been gassed but I still loved watching it yeah oh yeah like I do think a final like with all that swimming it them is the most extreme thing especially you've mentioned multiple times that Tor brought up that is not fault skill set that everyone has you don't have you know you don't really learn how to walk and run you just do it by growing up right but swimming is a very different thing for us Aussies maybe it's a little bit different to the US but I can what she was saying that swimming is not something that everyone has swimming and is really a like it's a privilege like only rich people can afford to have pools or have access to that or have live near the beaches and you know that sort of thing it's not like everyone has access to it so it's not fair in that regard

20:03 But it was certainly challenging it was certainly pushing them it was certainly endurance wise was brutal so from that regard yeah it had everything that the challenge wants I just wish that it was allowed for more competition like I know they didn't obviously rig it for Jordan but I do think if at the start of the Season you go hey how about we have an all swimming final and you go but if Jordan's there it's done like it's dunzo W didn't get the memo there's no like maybe if West was even in the thing or he didn't get the what I mean like if they're planning ahead they're not planning for Jordan but they also didn't like think it through of how this could potentially turn out when you have a Jordan there versus everyone else like it's a walkover it's not even going to be a thing and they didn't to me I was like you should have at least not what would go right but what could go wrong I loved it I still loved it like you still haven't convinced me otherwise on this one I thought it was it was a really entertaining final and I do think that none of the people that are doing the challenge are poor like I feel like was in the Philippines yeah I think all of these people who competed in the final could have at least gotten to a swimming pool I don't believe that they're not capable of paying to go to the swimming

21:23 Pool this is not their first appearance on the challenge they've gotten some money from the show Chris is I think it depends where in the US you grew up I grew up in Florida where swimming is definitely more common toar I know that you're like that doesn't that doesn't fit my argument Chris don't say that BBG is saying I liked everything about the final except the last checkpoint especially the karma points okay everybody wants us to talk about the karma points I feel like it's being brought up multiple times I was super low on it super low on it like I personally kuna think that the comma points could have been fun to watch could have been entertaining but it was way too overpowered for two full checkpoints to count and for it to be the social political game where someone like Rachel you know you talk about Michelle having this huge advantage over swimming well she's been friends with these people for 20 years none of them were going to vote her down she's beloved outside of the game I think Michelle went up with a massive handicap in this final when it comes to the karma points at least against her and for me the fact that she was able to jump from being third and fourth place for most of the legs to Joint first I mean if I was Jenny I would have been ped K because Jenny really deserved to win this one out right yeah anyways you go

22:43 Ahead I'm not even going to talk about the men we'll get to that second what's your thoughts on this Karma points Fiasco that took place I feel I feel the exact same way like they didn't even for whatever juice you could have gotten out of it whatever benefit you could have had as far as playing for the drama they never even touched it like maybe we could have what would happen if TJ read out who gave points to who yeah Johnny car Maria one point you know that kind of thing and then like rather than going Rachel got eight and we telled it up and here's the totals and now the total everything's messed up like it's it was just pointless and silly without any actual added benefit to it like they didn't play up the drama they didn't all they did was like a couple episodes at the start we skipped it for three or four multiple episodes during the season we forgot about it and then they play We like oh points and then we don't see who the points were given by to where all we get is like a couple of summaries here and there and then it changes the results completely on the women's side to the point I'm like why did like why did freaking Jody have a say in the final

24:03 Like you know someone who's eliminated in week two week three what are they doing impacting 12 weeks later you know what I mean like as far as you lost we got you out we did our job that's the thing that's like it's I don't understand it at all like it's ridiculous and Jenny if you if rumors are to be believed I don't believe them personally but if rumors are to be believed this is the second time she's had to split a solo win yeah cuz remember her win before people say that they actually gave it to Johnny at the at the final because she won solo but I don't think so but anyway Jenny got done again like this she's got bad luck she gets she wins splits it gets kicked out of the show for multiple Seasons doesn't get a call back gets called back again wins it again and then has to split it with Rachel for karma points yeah totally agree she's got Jenny's got the worst luck of any Challenger that we've ever seen like I mean having to potentially split that money with bananas in her first win then getting absolutely screwed out of a win that she deserved outright like she was dominating for the females at one stage I think I even observed this in my short form video she was actually pushing Jordan on some of the swims maybe he was slowing

25:23 Down because he was so far away but she's an absolute Beast right and all this I don't know why they showed us her huffing and puffing and all the cardio stuff throughout the season maybe so that we would feel okay with her not winning the season out right but none of that was a problem heading into the final even with that struggle that she had with vaping and things like that trying to give that up you know she still managed to dominate against all of these females and I think if there's one upside to Jenny hopefully she doesn't get screwed out of getting a call back for the next three or four seasons in a row like she did last time she had to split the money she's win away from equaling the most rings which has ever been won and I've had a lot of people say to me on the comment section after I did my final analysis that Rachel's been really arrogant about this win she's like you know been living it up I haven't seen the tweets and things and what she's saying but apparently she's not very humble in Victory here either ker have you been is not necessarily shocking but for me I'd be like you got to humble yourself yeah like she saw the points she knows what happened and then to still stand on like on the best is a really weird

26:44 Hill to die on unless she's valuing her social like the social skills and the political Powers just as much as her finals performance because that really did get her over the line and as what she like that was what got her the points if that's what she's valuing and that's what she's saying she's did really well at then I guess but it doesn't sit right with the fans I don't think yeah Britany says the reason why I'm not as mad about this twist is because if Challengers themselves don't even value performance over I want someone new to him then I can bring myself to be mad about it I don't care what the challenges think like I personally from a from a an audience member's perspective feels I feel robbed about this I feel robbed in the final but you know it's all gooda like you know if they if they want to do these flaky twists where they don't explain to the viewers what they're going to do until the last minute so that they can have pretty much card blanch to whatever they want to decide does karma votes need to mean at the end so they can last minute say oh it's two checkpoints or they could have said oh we're just going to do a penalty on one of the legs or something they had the ability to change it on the Fly you know seeing how the final played out I just feel like they shouldn't be calling the eles like a competitive show like it's not a competition it is just classic reality TV where

28:04 Things can be rigged in a certain way which I'm hoping that's not the direction the challenge is going into because from what I understand Kahuna they're saying they're trying to be the next sport in America but I don't see the correlation in being an competitive Sport and being something that they do in this way no they are I used to be on that train I love the idea of calling it The Fifth major sport and that like it was fun to me like that it was it was that at that level but seeing it like it's not a sport like it's so far and the problem is the issue I have is that it could be not a sport necessarily but it could be at that Pinnacle of competitiveness and making it like everything above board because they do it in other reality TV shows right like as far as competition reality shows go not the likes of the Traders and surviv and all that but they've got like Ninja Warrior and the Spartan like there's shows like Spartan Race that you do but they make TV shows out of them like I've seen before there's fit 100 there's that Netflix one where they had climbed the giant dragon I don't like but they make competitive reality shows that are purely about athletic prowess and how you compete purely above board no drama like

29:25 Not that I'm a problem with drama but transparency and making sure the rules are clear and it's an actual competition as opposed to a reality show which is it's always been baked into the recipe like even more so back in the day I know people love the olden days but it was way more reality game show back in the day than it is now I just think that the fact that they went more serious they got more athletes they made the final way more difficult they made it to be a much more difficult athletic ex Endeavor that it should come with the same status of competitive nature without that the without the producers putting their thumb on the scale or at least taking away any doubt that we may have that's what they're doing yeah cookie saying here Jenny is better than me I'd raise hell and also saying hello from Los Angeles cookie welcome to the live it's great to have you here must be middle of the night there like a be like middle of the night over there but we appreciate you everything's all right hope everything's all right ah yes with the with the fires I hope you're all good and your family's all good as well cookie Britany here says yes but Michelle lost out on 50,000

30:45 And that is a lot of money she should have won 75,000 but they had to push her down to third which is another one so they could stay in budget like they're making a tide first place and then second place doesn't exist we're just going to bump Michelle down to third so we don't have to give her any prize money and we can stay in budget which was another definitely controversial thing that they did I do want to talk about like the women were amazing like they were like even though Rachel didn't deserve to win and she kind of got bumped up and there'll always be an asteris next to her name in my opinion some fans may not agree with that but that's how I feel about it you know they were all still very competitive and that side at times they were pushing each other throughout the different challenges but with the men it was a complete blowout bananas didn't really give Jordan the run for his money that you would have hoped for but Derek also you know with this Karma thing we could have had Derek win this season like this is how you know this twist was broken kuna Jordan won every single leg except for one but Derek was four points away which is very close of being the winner of the challenge 40 how would that have looked if you got the guy who won one leg win out against the guy who won six out of seven legs in the final and what type of season would we be looking at

32:05 Like I don't have a problem with Derek winning a season I've said that before I don't think he should be winning season 40 though I'd be happy for him if he wins an all stars I'd be happy for him if he wins a future season this is a big season to win and this Karma points almost gave it to someone let's be fair Derek was one of the lower ranked like who was the person who picked them high in this in the draft because I feel like none of Us Saw how powerful he could be it was someone picked him pretty high I'm pretty sure cuz he didn't go last but most of us didn't want to touch him in the first round in any case right so for me personally I was like the must be the shock of the Season firstly for him to get to the final and then secondly he nearly won with this twist what's your thoughts on that would have been a nightmare like I think they lucky that obvious the men was affected and they're probably lucky that Rachel only tied for first because imagine if she jumped from third to First and knocked out Jenny like I do think if that were the case if Jordan got knocked out by Derek on Karma points I think what you said probably would have come into play where they would have just changed the karma points to one leg or something you know what I mean like I don't think they would have actually let Derek win on Karma points they that's when they would have actually gone okay this is who cares who cares

33:25 About Jen tying Jenny she who cares about J but Jordan who car this is going to upset the fans at least she still won right they're like ah she still won she has to split it that's fine but they wouldn't let that happen to Jordan I don't think not for not for Derek anyway maybe bananas but not for Derek Chris saying that it was eagley Drew had him in his draft so Drew what a pick of the Season I'm going to have to congratulate him on that one when we do our draft for All Stars five Rivals because that must be the pick of the season from Drew getting him cuz I remember I think it was this second guy like he got him pretty early on and I remember at that time I was like whoever picked him I was like this is early I can't believe someone's picking him that early but they knew better than me I mean what a what a pick for this season out performing everybody because he had he had Jordan and Rachel he had Jordan Rachel and Derek that's insane that's insane but Jordan Rachel Derek yeah I absolutely pooped the bed on that draft like let's hope that this one's going to go better for me because I had a I had a terrible showing on that draft okay so Jordan wins this one Kahuna crisis averted you know goat off the challenge

34:45 Now has he proven it he's beaten the toughest competition possible on the challenge 40 he went up against all the Legends and he's also won World Championship and he's won dirty30 like has there been a challenger that have beaten more stiff competition I don't think so no he's like it's not Undisputed because banana still has seven and he's still going and he's been doing it for so long right so there's an argument to be made but for me like on paper if you're picking a if you're drafting unquestionably Jordan is the number one competitor to ever play this game like even though it's five versus seven like you said the weight of those five when you count 40 when you think World Championships like these are worth more than probably any of the Championships that Johnny had that bananas has especially when you consider the early ones where I don't know if he was in the team ones early he might not have been that the first era one but I don't think I would put the early wins up against these ones especially 40 like this seven legs are swimming and Jordan has won
