The Challenge All Stars 2: Episode 9 Recap

0:01 And we're live on the reality realness channel and also the nullified take channel here on youtube the newly created nullify tech channel i should say and we've got the former challenge insiders uniting together here to do this recap for you obviously there is going to be two episodes left for this season that we want to recap and we thought it's best that we share this on a few different platforms for everybody to find us just in case they wondered where did they go we really wanted to know their opinions for the last couple of episodes i do want to introduce and someone that probably shouldn't even be introduced on this podcast because everybody will know who she is chantal to the podcast is one of my co-hosts chantal how are you doing since the last time that we spoke and i believe it was on the previous recap for the challenge insiders i'm doing quite well i'm happy that the new year has started and like i'm starting to see what my podcasting schedule is going to be like we just did the amazing race i was like ah i missed the amazing race like i haven't had to you know seriously scribble notes for two hours in a while and so i don't know i'm just kind of happy getting into a group of things and having the new schlue's shows and then obviously all stars is fantastic and super fun so i'm kind of sad that we have one more episode left yeah

1:21 Hopefully fingers crossed that we don't have to wait too long for all stars three especially since they haven't actually started filming on the challenge 38 we're obviously hoping that we'll get some content back on our screens as soon as possible another person here on the panel that probably needs no introduction and has been working really hard behind the scenes to get some great video content out for us i did notice drew you had something for the amazing race drop on your channel this week so doing something a bit different there how's things been on your side when it comes to you know everything that's been going on i know we spoke on i think it was tuesday yeah we did we spoke on cobra kai season four which was really fun yeah it was fun to do a different review and recap because i've done the challenge for so many weeks now and mainly i do the challenge so it was nice to do something different i had to learn a whole group of people's names because it's not just like 10 rookies i had and then 20 people that i knew from like six or eight seasons so it was it was different but it was fun and i'm looking forward to making all different types of different content with the challenge the amazing race possibly celebrity big brother and then team mom that's coming up so i'm looking forward to all of that it's gonna be a lot but it's gonna be fun yeah you're definitely gonna be i'm leaner myself so

4:03 A horse in the race going into the finals i was so nervous did any of you guys feel like this was it for brad sorry for doral or were you guys wise to the edit this episode sorry we already got tipped off on what was going to be happening so like i already kind of knew that you know that darrell was going to be going up against jody and i and we've seen a clip of her doing the final so i just knew that wasn't going to be the outcome but i had a feeling that you would be [ __ ] yourself oh so nervous i will say that i could not pinpoint how the ending was going to go because of how much we heard from janelle which we haven't heard from her this whole season this much as we did this episode and then for her to talk about her back so much i was like okay well i think this is setting up for them to the reason why they were going into the elimination and why they were eliminated and i'm not gonna lie from a fantasy standpoint i was like this is perfect for me because i would have on every team ready to go if they stayed in duos in this final so i was like i'll lock up a winner right here right now let's do it right here sadly that's not how it went i'm happy

5:23 That darrell is still in the game because if darrell's in the game he has a great shot of winning with a partner with a bad back or not i think they are a fierce team to be reckoned with but i just thought that brad and jody were gonna be able to pull it up pull it out i mean they just they kind of fell apart there yeah i mean i kind of bravely proclaimed a couple of episodes ago like i mean i think that brad and jody's just winning this whole thing there's like no team out there that's going to be able to take them out going into the finals they just looked on paper too strong but clearly this episode a lot of things went wrong for them brad you know using his muscles not his brains jody really floundering this episode as well and i wonder if it has to do with the fact that she has not been doing the challenges for so long there is pressure on her as a returning champion coming back and playing this game she's putting pressure on herself to do well and everything just really went wrong for them from a political standpoint a smart standpoint going into this specific daily challenge which by the way i loved it just didn't go their way this episode here but i really had the edit sort of confusing me a bit with all of them you know right up early in the episode talking about the fact why they're doing it darrell saying this

6:43 Is probably getting close to the last time that he'll probably be doing that he can't do too many more of these things and then also having them all have this you know bit of time to talk in the start of the episode and janelle saying she's got serious back problems i thought she was going to pull out this episode i was really scared for that throughout the whole episode here well i think though with the jody situation you know i don't know if it's necessarily that she hasn't been playing the challenge for a long time but we hear when she does the elimination part of it that she has gigantic hands and so you know having these cumbersome knots to untie we saw that most of the men had a lot of trouble with the knots and the women with most likely smaller hands are able to untie these knots a little bit easier so i think that's where she was floundering was because if she's not as delicate with her not handling skills and yeah maybe because she hasn't played in a while she hasn't really learned how to untie knots a lot faster and better but i think that's actually probably one of the reasons why she wasn't able to do that better but it didn't matter because she was doing so dumb damn so chantelle are you saying that nehemiah's really good with his hands because he was able to untie all these knots i mean he's not good at tying the knot but good at untying the knots

8:04 What how tall is the amaya he might not be that super big it seems like mj's pretty a pretty big guy brad's a pretty big guy i mean tech is probably he's skinny but he's tall so he might have really long fingers yeah i think he might be a little bit more nimble nehemiah i will say that if while we're on the subject of the daily challenge a plus for how this was set up a plus for what the idea was but execution wise this was not it i mean to me this is the final daily challenge and for pretty much four of the five teams to not be able to complete it to where we have a very predictable outcome like we don't even have to like be there on the edge of our seats waiting to see what tj's gonna say about times i mean this was a timed event but the timing was so small i just wish that they would have let them just have all the time in the world and just let them go and then just see who got the fastest because by the time we got to the end of this it was pretty much knowing that brad and jody dq'd and then nehemiah and melinda won and then having so many people dq for the final i mean if this was like in the middle of the season it's kind of like wow this was difficult i can see why nobody could finish this but for it to be the final one i just felt like a

9:24 A feeling of incompletion almost being that nobody could really figure out this in three minutes except for nehemiah melinda which thank you for giving me my fantasy points nehemiah and melinda but i just wish more teams would have been able to like be in the competition with it yeah i mean three minutes kind of short i thought yeah i was going to say no maya melinda here peaking at the right time as well within this season obviously getting the life shield winning the daily here keeping tech and ayana safe to keep the balance keep the palace which we see is just such a you know obviously trendy song that you even have the enemy you know singing it in this episode which was so fun to see they can't help but love it even though they're working against this alliance and i'm all here for it like everything that tech is bringing here for this season has been fun seeing him walk around like a true king and emperor in his bathrobe everywhere celebrating with champagne after they are safe in this specific daily it's so much fun to see this alliance work together so i hear what you're saying drew that the daily wasn't ideal from a tv spectator standpoint but the outcome of it was

10:44 A fun outcome because i don't think we could have asked for a better outcome with having two heavyweights like brad and doral go up against each other jody obviously having burned an absolute beast throughout this whole season and then this massive question mark over janelle would she be able to perform an elimination round which she ended up stepping up here in this episode yeah janelle i've been having i've been not been so happy with janelle this season i've been calling her i think somebody in my chat gave me the idea of calling her the challenge karen she's just been kind of annoying me a little bit in her perspectives and i was very upset with her for most of this episode with i understand when people are injured that they don't want to further injure themselves especially when they're in a career that you know they need to be able to have their full physical capacities totally understand that but don't come on the challenge you know what i mean like this is this is darrell's job so you know trying to preserve yourself for your own career this is darrell's career and he's working with you for mutual benefits here and so the fact that she was only really considering her livelihood was really frustrating i wish she hadn't come on the show because it wouldn't have been a question at all and you know in the beginning she wasn't even considering the fact that he had to give up a lot to come

12:04 Here as well he also has family and so he was like well just don't quit let's try to get to the end you know we don't know how the finals could be run we might not be there together this whole time and he's like she's like oh i don't want to you know mess anything up for anybody else but she's totally willing to mess it up for jarel i was just so angry with her and like i understood what dorell was feeling too like well fine like quit then i don't know like what can you want to say what you want me to do i'm going to bag like i didn't know what she wanted for him to say or do and so i was with darrell for both of this episode and pretty irritated with my partner being janelle yeah adrian celestia says that when janelle said her back injury was from back in 2014. i was like how did she get past the medical exam drew so my thing is like if she has if she's an excruciating pain and we can't from an audience standpoint or anybody but janelle know how much pain she's in but from an audience standpoint she's hiding it extremely well i mean she's sitting up on the bed when talking to brad and she's not like trembling in her voice when she's walking around i almost feel like she may have tweaked her back and maybe hurt the time after the cenote and maybe it's a little bit strained and i think if she did go through something really traumatic

13:25 As a back injury in 2014 i found that if people had like a really serious injury that they're way more like sensitive to anything to where like they don't want anything like that to ever happen again so even if they tweak it they're treating it like this could be the end of the world type of thing so i'm not saying that she's not in pain she's probably in a lot of pain but i don't know exactly how much because she's been able to do everything i mean she's a warrior if she's in excruciating pain running those six miles getting second place on that daily challenge of the mini final last episode and then being able to jump back and forth deck down on her knees to get onto the untying the knots jumping from truck to truck and then being able to do the smashing in this elimination i mean to me if i had an excruciating back i wouldn't be able to move i feel but i'm not trying to dis credit her or her claims to her back injury i just think that maybe it is hurting her and it is straining her but it's not as like severe as she may be thinking it may be just her more of her mental state being like i'm i can't move i don't want her anything like worse yeah yeah because she's obviously still got a little bit of that ptsd

14:45 From having had the injury thinking about how bad it was how she probably i mean we don't know how long it took her to get back from that injury it could have been her being out for a year not being able to do or function like she would normally function in real life and that's probably what she was more afraid of than anything else and it was definitely a bad spot and that's why on the challenge sometimes the challenge can be cruel i mean look at kohara being sent home because his partner couldn't complete this challenge you know the same thing could have happened to doral here which would have been very sad to see i do want to trail back and just answer a couple of the live streamers here we've got andrea here very concerned for phantom michelle i promise i didn't kidnap them i promise they're not in my closet somewhere they're going to be back on reality realness with chantal at some point this is just a crossover that we're doing with the nullified take channel on youtube which i'm the host of and if you do like this content please consider subscribing over there as well we will be together as a threesome in the future as well doing a lot of podcasts and things like this in the future so really excited about that as well speaking the truth is asking did chris completely jinx team brody i think i may have chantelle i was really i don't know if you did or not i never was that excited like i was

16:05 Never like sure about brad right i'm always like that's good but like he messes up sometimes like he you know i was always kind of just hedging my bets here with brad being like yeah maybe he could take it but like i just don't know if he could get there's always something that happens you like i just keep on remembering the time when he gets that fight with darrell right before the fight like he just something happens just to get him to not get to that final at least in recent years so i was not surprised when they went home especially on his dq because i'm like oh yeah that's right brad's a ding-dong like he's always gonna mess things up so i think it was brad i don't think it was you i won't blame you for this one even though i lost jodie out of it dolores here drew says that the ladies brought it this episode but i want dorell to win i agree with you delores by the way although i believe it's a long shot hey it'll be my guy my guy would win this thing and i will take it like i'll take the pity one so i will say that i did make an amendment after our last talk i did change from 15 points from winning 15 1 5 i went to 50.

17:22 I just thought let's bump it up let's have a decent let's have a decent points hole going in and that was i did i made that switch thinking okay well maybe janelle will leave take darrell with her and then i'll have a person on everybody's team and let's just run this thing and get me no i'm just kidding but i think that i just don't understand i don't understand brad i don't get it like he went in the middle of the pack he was like third i think going into that so he knows from other people talking he heard tj or he didn't hear tj say you have to untie the knots and he's sitting there like when he jumps off the truck and he looks at it and just goes what is this to a tied rope how is your first thought not i'm going to untie this he's just like i don't know what to do with rope that's tied like i guess they just like what does he do with his shoes does he just start ripping his shoes apart because he can't get his foot in it like what is this yeah and i mean how many challenges have brad done by now like i mean does he not watch these things like people have been disqualified for less in previous challenge dailies i'm assuming that he does not watch the show he's on and actually the one that just popped up into my head right now is when ct lost i believe it was in the duel because he

18:42 Instead of i'm hooking his carabiner onto the whatever the thing the loop on the floor he just like rips it out or whatever i can't remember exactly the mechanics of it but he dequeued in the arena for doing something way less than this and like he still like got it i'm pretty close and so is very shocking well it's not shocking what am i saying but it was pretty on brand sorry for brad to not realize that you had to untie the ropes and thought it would be a lot faster just to rip it off hulk style andrea says that janae is playing a brilliant game obviously she's great in the missions which is true she did well again here today mj was the one who didn't finish it but she's also in every conversation not just game even personally and she's not leaving anything to chance this is now the second season in array a row that janae is going to go all the way through to the finale she's going to run in it i think you know you have to put her up there with mj and naomi and melinda is probably the favorites going into this because we don't know what's going to happen with janelle's back there is definitely going to be a question mark on that darrell janelle team janae going to nehemiah afterwards and thanking him was a funny episode a funny clip for me as well because nehemiah clearly didn't do it because he cares so much about that relationship

20:02 Between them and saving her it is a technical one for her to throw darrell down there because he doesn't want to go up against them in the in the final but that's not taking anything away from janae she is playing a master social and strategic game on all stars and if she does not win the season i think she may have one of the biggest targets on her head going into all-stars three should she return which i believe she is well the only thing the thing with janae is that people are never really going to be threatened by her i don't even think if she were to win this season if people will start targeting her she does just seem kind of just easy going she's your friend she talks about things she's nervous about things she puts herself in a really good position all the time with the numbers even back in the day when she had like partners that were terrible she still wasn't the one that lost them the game or that people wanted to get out necessarily as usually her partner that was you know that she was linked to that caused her bit of trouble so i think that she's still gonna be fine and even if she wins i don't think she's gonna be the number one target i think she'll be okay yeah it's quite brilliant that she was able to make it through last season not seeing an elimination make it to the finals get third place

21:22 Come on this season and play even better to make it and do the same kind of thing but she does a great job of like putting down her risk or threat level and it's i mean even with mj by her side i mean nehemiah clearly was had only eyes on darrell which i mean how can you not for four challenge championships he just got second place last season the only thing is that i'm really nervous for the finals if something really bad happens to janelle to where she really can't go any further i almost felt like with brad and jody leaving you can't count out darrell because he will put his partner on his back and run the whole thing if he needs to get that win but it really makes me feel like this is a two team race at this point that are the favorites going into it with his john a and mj and nehemiah melinda i still think it's gonna be really fun and it's gonna be an exciting final and you can't ever count on anybody i just i don't know i'm with chantelle that if janelle has this serious back injury or she suffered from a serious back injury i think maybe you'd be put as an alternate instead of on the main cast and then if somebody drops out then she could be brought in but to

22:43 To be holding out onto this pain and then going into a final where she was saying she was in excruciating pain in the mini final and this final could be ten times worse i mean i just feel bad for darrell who could be leaving middle of these finals or having to walk the rest of these finals and making it a two team race out of four that we could possibly have and also it's such a disadvantage to both darrell and janelle to go straight to the finals after just having competed in an elimination like massive twist at the end love the twist you know you've got darrell looking at janelle saying we've got this and he's so confident and then to the camera he's like we're absolutely screwed i thought i was going to be able to get catch a couple of z's you know he's such great tv and i just like dorell so much there's another reason i want him to do well get this you know he gets the family letters before going into the elimination it's you know we just know him so well we know how much the challenge means to him to win this thing you know it's worth so much more money now compared to what it was when he did win his four challenge seasons back in the day it can actually change his family's life and we also know that the reason that he came back to do the challenge is because he went through some hardship with his own business because of what happened with you know the world in the last two years things slowed down and that's the reason why he came back to the

24:03 Normal challenge and then did the all-star seasons as well so i really just want him to do well here but going straight from this elimination that looked absolutely like it took so much energy out of all of these competitors doing that you know straight into a finale chantal how much of a disadvantage do you think this is going to be do you think this could be the thing i mean i know darrell is a seasoned campaigner but this has to be tough on him and his partner going into the finale yeah we kind of talked about that with the regular season with the fact that like emmanuel had to do an arena and then do like another arena pretty much back what we could see was back to back so yeah it's cool to like shake things up and like the people that weren't really prepared to start running the final would be like oh frazzled like we've been running it now i just think it's obtained it's a big disadvantage though for the people that just went into the elimination like you know i think janelle needs nice bath like i know she was sitting down and just putting the pieces through the hole but like she probably did do some you know damage to her back there and like i would hope that she'd have at least a day just to recuperate and kind of get focused you know get some tylenol in her whatnot and be able to run the finals so i don't think that it's worth

25:23 The surprise on the other players for them to be like let's start tomorrow morning like i don't know i don't i don't know what the benefit is it's not that big in my opinion i think why they're doing this is because they're only going to have one episode and one full day of the final because there's normally an overnight portion i think this beginning will be like one leg overnight and then we're gonna get right into it the next morning instead of how we did it last season where it was the full day and then the night portion and then it was just a run up the mountain and that was it so we're basically getting the run up the mountain out of the way first with the night portion and then going into it so that's what i assumed why they were like let's just do it so they'll do like a small little puzzle probably and then go into sleeping in tents or on a see-saw or standing on a stump or whatever they're going to be doing eating chicken breast out of cans or whatever so i don't know but yeah that's what i assumed that's really smart and i actually i understand that take of it i hope so that janelle will get an opportunity just to rest because i'm sure that darrell will just be like you know what i will stand on this seesaw all night long you rest your back stretch your back out like

26:43 Whatever you need to do i'll do all this part so i hope that they have an opportunity just to allow her to rest because obviously i don't want her to damage herself even further absolutely not but i also would love for her to have a shot at winning this like you know i don't want to get tyrell to get to this final and lose because the fact that his partner is injured so i'm just hoping that it i'm just hoping that he gets run a fair final yeah i mean remind me if i'm wrong here i can't remember if i actually saw darrell and janelle in the next on episode clip for the finale but we saw a few players that did get injured or looked like they were in trouble like andrea says here mj on instagram had a knee surgery today looks like a lot of people may get injured in the finale as well that's something that could be an equalizer going into a finale like it could be a little bit of a red herring by the edit here to let us focus on janelle being someone that is struggling but like tatiana says in the chat here janelle and doral both are endurance players and you could hear that they were talking very highly a few people were talking really highly of janelle i think it was melinda who said that she doesn't want to go against doral and janelle in the final where you know they could be very stiff competitors going into finale so she seems to have a lot of respect from other people in the house there that have seen her capabilities on the dailies at least it

28:03 Does seem like they do respect what she brings to the table in that direl janelle duo and a lot of them obviously are not aware that she does have some struggles going on i think she only opened up to brad and darrell from what we've seen what was it i was going to say just totally disappeared from my head i started reading something not a problem i was going to say the elimination this round as well really exciting for me personally to watch it was one of the more visually exciting ones to see them go into these rooms smash things up they had to get all of the cinder blocks and pieces of furniture through a six-inch hole then through a three-inch hole so there was an element of teamwork required here but i thought visually it was quite entertaining to watch to see how close both these two teams were to the end where i believe it was something like two pounds or something difference in white between both teams that to me is absolute insanity and it just shows you how much hard it must have taken because you know you've got to give credit to janelle yes she had issues with her back this episode she talks about it but when it came up to put up and shut up and perform in the arena she did do her part because darrell would not have been able to do this on his own and she used a technique that was a lot more energy efficient compared to jody again showing that they're using their brains more

29:24 Than team smash where she's sitting down not standing up and moving around as much as jody not getting hit by those cinderblocks in the face as much as jody either which was just crazy to see in the episode but they end up really performing well here and taking this win out were you guys as high as i was on this elimination round for me it was a lot of fun to watch i thought it was entertaining from the fact that it was close and also visually i just thought it was easy to follow and see who would who was doing well and how close it was at all times i think what i liked about it is that you got to see people that wanted to be there going full energy like determination and it was just like it was all hard against heart and i really appreciate that i think who was it that's i don't know who said it in deliberation was like they want oh ayanna sorry when aryana said i had something to say and she mentions the fact that she wanted someone that's going to be able to match the level of intensity that jody and brad were going to have and i actually agree with that i do feel that they really did match it and i was even though i had a feeling i knew what the outcome was going to be i was still really engaged and i just loved seeing people going full out my work as a dancer i used to when i was growing up and one thing that you do when your performance level is like you dance full out

30:44 Full energy full intensity like finish your lines all that stuff and like i just appreciate when people are going full out they're not holding back and that's why i think i really enjoyed it i thought it was good the only thing i kept on thinking about was the home record challenge in battle of the bloodlines where it was that you had just all furniture you had to break down everything in the room you had to clear it out and then stick it through like a mail slot so to me i enjoyed it i enjoyed the intensity i enjoyed the elimination and who was in it the only thing is they really only just focused on the cinder blocks because they were the heaviest things i really wish that there was like maybe two cinder blocks and then they had to go full fully unleash it into like a vinyl record player and a tv some a full armoire or something like let's get a few more things really like breaking it out and making it creative to like why you would have to smash more than just cinder blocks because at the end of the day the containers were just all cinder blocks it could have just been all cinderblocks in the in the thing instead of just a whole different like apartment level style but i thought it was really fun i thought it was exciting and i really couldn't tell who was going to win i mean the edit was really pushing the janelle

32:04 Is throwing these things outside of the barrel the barrel was yeah it just kept on flowing out so to me it was like okay well her back is hurting her she's like been in this episode's confessionals ten times darrell had like 16 confessionals that i counted i was like they got a lot of screen time i wonder if this is him like going home kind of edit like a swan song but it was incredible it was incredible to see that it was two pounds and that they won it was so close so exciting to watch and you've got tech watching it on you know thinking to himself i gotta get back home i've got to get those eggs that's boiling you know and have my dinner and then he finds out no going back home really enjoyed tech here this episode as well and ayana they are that duo that just keeps on entertaining and in the daily when they were talking about making the baby you know ayanna is way more concentrated on tech i think romantically than actually on the challenge chantal that's the romance she really wants to have but tech you know again like you know not good at tying knots think what it is like obviously he's a very attractive man they're around the same age they've been in each other's world for 20 years i think she just enjoys having a crush on somebody you know being in the stressful environment

33:24 And having to untie knots and be swept around and just it's nice to have someone that you can kind of daydream about and flirt with and you know send things say things in the confessionals about i think it's just i think it's just a crush and it's just serving her to have like something else to focus on other than the actual challenge of it all yeah tech was on fire this whole time i mean i loved i loved him i got him for his confessionals and it took a while for him to be like showing up but now that he's in the finals it was time like it was like he was just on fire he was on point during the daily challenge during the elimination i just thought he was on fire and i'm happy that he made it farther i'm happy about his alliance his song his friendship with nehemiah and how it just feels like a genuine friendship like this isn't just a french an alliance that's just gonna make it for this season and that's it then they're gonna part ways and never talk to each other again like i really feel like they're gonna be friends forever and this was a shared experience for both nehemiah tech literian melinda just everybody that's a part of the king's palace so i just think it's like we're seeing that genuine friendship like actually blossom and if they're gonna be on more seasons

34:45 Together they're going to work together it's kind of like when the young bucks formed it's kind of like how the lavender ladies they never turn on each other so to me i think we're seeing a genuine friendship rather than oh we'll just work together because yeah we got to no i mean it's nice now you can definitely see this is going to transcend into other seasons of the challenge and this alliance has dominated this season to the point where you almost feel like they do deserve a winner they do deserve a champion to come from this alliance when they get into the end game and i do think you know naomi and melinda they're probably my top pick for the team that could bring a win for the palace and i know that drew would be very happy about that because that would make him i believe the outright winner and on that note we probably want to have a quick look at our draft picks here for the season just to see how things are tracking along for the season i still have my sole person in this race it is slim pickings at this moment so everybody who's here in the live who have not been singing before yeah everybody that has not seen our coverage before you wouldn't probably have known who's in our draft picks for the season but i'm barely hanging in there and we've got two people here this episode that does leave
