4:01 A hell of a week monkey a great first of all let me ask you overall bird's eye view not getting into a lot of the detail but just as a general impression what do you think of the show oh I think it's fantastic you know I think it's really enjoyable the cast is super fun I love like how because the thing about Australian Survivor you know is that it sort of shows you who you need to care about and just forgets about the rest sometimes people go home and we really don't know who they are but I feel like with the players who get nominated we know their wise we know who they are so it makes the challenges more emotional and excited to survival challenge more emotional and you really feel it for them so yeah I'm loving the cast I'm loving the show just everything yeah it's really enjoyable yeah I was worried to be honest with you because we I said last week I wonder if we're gonna get a lot of purple edits and I think with a show of 100 people it's just it's inevitable that there's going to be some contestants that we don't get a lot of screen time with and we don't get to know that well but one thing that I really did like about the show even from an Earl for even from early on it gave you what you needed to focus on right we got the stories of the people like even before we knew the format even before we knew what the challenges or how they're eliminate any of that stuff the opening the show we're getting confessionals from people that would then later play an important part and

5:21 In the first the first episode you don't really pick up on that but then in the second and third episode I'm like ah okay it makes perfect sense we're getting everything we need for this episode you know what I mean like they're showing all the people that are going to be involved all the big players and the people that aren't as important to the plot of this episode or the or maybe the week because yeah so for example some of the let me ask you then because I'll get on top of it but who stood out to you said you love the contestants who were the ones that really stood out to you from the get-go so from the from the get card I loved Mike I was like you know this guy you know as a as a fellow Michael myself you know I felt the students with Brotherhood you know since that companionship right there so immediately I loved him we didn't really consider him much until the recent episodes but I really loved Yasmin as well so sorry if I pronounced your name wrong but yeah I just really loved what she did as well when she nominated people and Adrian Melissa the pink lady I absolutely adored her she was she was probably my favorite Melissa yeah I absolutely loved her this week we just on that I mean we're talking about cast we got to

6:41 Send shout outs we got Carlene in this in the live as well hey welcome to the NBI family boys thank you Colleen we very much appreciate it we've got the Vault back in the house again or maybe they want to show 60 Minutes of challenges and no drama it's a great Survivor that's funny because as much as I'm loving it as much as we're like I think it's my overall thing is that what I love the most about it is that it's got it hits all my like endorphins of like it's survive the Survivor feel to it right you got the island you got very similar kind of feel and the challenges some of them could be plucked straight out of Survivor some of the channels as we've seen and it's got a survive a feel but because we've had 50 seasons of survive 50 plus like when you go 44 us plus eight Australian and then there's you know South Africa and all the other ones there's so many seasons of Survivor to have the Survivor feel and have that sort of thing scratch that each scratch of Survivor but it's completely fresh it's all new it's all unique it's all original and it's getting me excited right like I go yeah okay this there's the familiar stuff that I dig but it's all new on top of it as well and that's what I'm really liking but yeah so also maybe they want to show why I said that is because early on after

8:01 Episode one there were articles there were stuff on Facebook there's stuff on Reddit people were really shitty on the show some people weren't liking it I don't think it's the majority but I think you know how some media will glom on to the negative in order to run an article because that's what you know people who don't like it will try to look it up and people who do like it will try to look up the positives and you kind of you know cater to what people want and a bit of an echo chamber that way but I don't get the people that are saying I do not understand the people that are saying that they're not digging it because I can't see what is so bad about it unless they're just Perpetual kind of you know not happy people maybe you're Brendan sorry so we did have the Vault saying what's up 60 Minutes of challenges no drama jaunty yeah the boys shirts off for jaunty Chris with a compliment as a viewer to the rest of the cast everyone listening Chris said the cast is interesting so far and then Yasmine said about your name pronunciation oh monkey you said it perfectly thank you so much thank you Vault saying no we appreciate Lads but they put too many people on should have done 50 people not 100 viewers can't connect with 100 people and consumers in

9:21 Our society want and need drama fan this really hits the market in a new way yeah you got Survivor feels but something new back to what Vault was saying the Vault the vultanator James here yes what do you think of that well no I reckon I reckon I should add more because I should have gone the full thousand why not no I think it's one of those interesting things really was like well the competition like this where multiple people can go at a time and obviously there's like a teaser for next week where it's going to be a camp this is Camp and whatnot and so I think the more people kind of the better if that makes sense but I think it also helps to make sure you don't fall into the celebrity casting as well kind of similar to what Australian Survivor has done recently so I think you know the more people the more different opportunities for great characters you'll get that exactly right that's what I was going to say in a cast of Survivor when you have 24 people or 20 or 18 in the US of art at the moment whatever it is right when there's that many people you need to nail every single casting member on there but they never do like even in the class of 20 we still get three

10:42 Or four or five whatever like completely forgettable people yeah foreign whatever it is there's always a certain percentage of any cast that is essentially fodder or just going along with it whatever the case may be right but when you have a hundred you're increasing your chances and the law of averages say if I have 100 people I'm gonna get more of the really good people I can use the crap out of yeah you're just giving yourself more options so that's where I'm sort of coming from on that I as far as the Survivor feel like what Chris was saying before and I said it gives me that survival I almost felt like it could have been a spin-off you know how there's like there's Naked and Afraid and then there's Naked and Afraid Excel and there's Naked and Afraid last one standing you know how they have different versions of the same game of the same show but the same branding I almost imagined it could have been like Survivor 100 or Survivor like extreme or something you know what I mean like just having it scooped up you know on steroids kind of thing but yeah so Chris replied to the world and I said I do think we'll get better once more people leave and we get more Dynamics yeah here Carlene from the from the island itself said the game rules and mechanisms were different but the conditions were very similar Survivor she slept

12:02 In dirt in the woods starved me so all the same thing in fact I think Carlene I believe it may actually be worse than Survivor because I think in Australia they now have what do they call porta potties I think yeah because like I've heard some of the survivors say that because they're like it doesn't add to the game it doesn't add to the strategy it doesn't add to the product it just means that they're shooting in the woods for no reason they don't show it they don't like use it on you know what I mean so and that's why where Russell hand said that Australian survival is soft because they have some of those other things they're not trying to torture the crap out of them I couldn't I couldn't wrestle for those who could bed sandwiches so you know so what do you really believe that Russell sometimes but you know a key strategy someone could use though right you know if you don't have what it is right and you shut in the woods if you had like a idol like an advantage you would put it like near the sort of area because the smell would be so bad who would want to go there to potentially steer your idle you know so yeah it'll be a great strategy to hide your advice you know

13:23 I don't know they might ruin your social game if you're putting the food the groups food the camps food and we know that you know log Camp doesn't have any logs running out maybe if it was maybe if it was rock camp with you know the abundance that they have maybe they can put it near the smell but yeah we had a few people say so the hangout room said that Shani is interesting she is very interesting we had he has been replaying just go full squid games yep might as well so if you quit you die essentially right yeah if you if you lose a challenge that's look it's probably coming you know 1988 The Running Man movie came out and it said that's going to be TV in the future we'll see we'll see oh he's a he's a bit of a foretelling from Joy shooting Monday because she is gonna hit the fan in capital letters okay it's a bit of a tease bit of a tease there Cara commented on the on the hundred number and she's 100 people's amazing social butterfly and it was amazing to get to know so many people from all walks of life yeah I could imagine that'd be the cool thing and there's certainly like as far as strategy

14:44 Goods and we're seeing it play out early I mean I think it's strategy for some people but you know flying under the radar is a big thing in Survivor right imagine not putting yourself out there million dollar Island Australia some people ignored that hard and fast straight away some people yeah they edit whatever it is we're not seeing people at all like there's some people that I put together names and researching and blah I'm like I don't haven't seen that person like so you know that's the kind of thing that happens but Cara said Survivor also get new ration drops of food every couple days ours was very different we were starving wow okay and then everyone gets hungry everyone's getting stuck again annoyed at each other and then Vault said Rock camps kitchen people were too strict we were dying but you had so much Peyton's like in charge of the food and she's hiding 11 cans of pasta and stuff I'm so proud you know I'm a massive pasta fan like I'd say a good chunk of my meals involve some kind of pasta so see what those like cancer past it like yeah you would have had to strap like time into a tree you know I would have just Unleashed myself on all the pasta okay so we that's sort of overall we talk about contestants we talked about the format we've got survival Fields

16:04 Do we like the 100 do we like the numbers what do you think of ant Middleton are you familiar with ant Middleton have you seen SAS Australia I haven't seen that no I'd heard that he was a host of another show but I hadn't seen anything of him before but yeah I really like him yeah I'm a bit I'm a bit iffy on him I'm a bit funny on him I do like him but do you know what that is no not really okay so reality competition show that is meant to be mimicking or putting contestants through and they're all celebrities by the way putting them through what the special forces would be training as all right so it's really physically brutal like it's big time brutal and he is a former Special Forces Army dude from you know Britain or whatever which is why he's on that show so on that show he's a lot harder he's screaming at them you know get down in the mud man get kind of like America you know like full-on Army dude and then I'm here he's trying to be all soft and it just shocks me it feels like a like a shock to the system and also I look I'm not ableist I swear but I find it funny that a man can get to hosting multiple TV shows commanding

20:05 It's later in the show ant comes on and with his special way of speaking explains how the show is going to work their bracelets they're worth ten thousand we went through this last week but basically everyone has a bracelet with ten thousand dollars you put a bracelet up as the entry fee to a challenge and then Winner Takes all right yeah right and if you don't have a bracelet by the end of the night you're going home and that's the essential thing so the way the challenge gets chosen or who gets into the challenge is a giant roulette wheel or chocolate wheel whatever you want to call it spins whoever's number lands on gets the power to choose and we've seen episode one oh sorry yeah Mike gets the wheel Mike gets the power it lands on him that's where and like that's where it all started yeah no worries not selling them look like there's Danica Patrick so Mike gets the power and ant tells them there are resources out there's food there's things that you need but there's not enough for everyone go nuts and he just releases them into the wild and that's where we see scrambling that's where we see James The Vault himself telling everyone to

21:25 Just calm down and that's when Nate screams out don't listen to him he's a real estate agent which is just one of the best lines ever there's stealing there's grabbing and I've been told that what did not make the edit Mucky was a lot more drama and a bit more RG barging that we were given on screen okay so I'm spewing about that because yeah they want the challenges which is great drama is cool the cool too though as well you know what I mean like we missed some of it especially they would have been going a bit crazy there and what happens at the end of that sort of Fallout is that people decide on which Camp they want to join of their own accord so we've got uneven numbers we've got uneven distribution of resources and it's very much like the tagline of the show says where society's rules don't exist and it's kind of the case he let them go they weren't assigned a specific area they weren't assigned a specific Camp they weren't you know given any sort of specific things look what Vault said about the drama there was a lot more that we didn't see yeah and on the opposite end of that Cara said I feel like they've left a lot of really nice sentimental Parts hilarious London funny moments and general Camp life so are they

22:45 Left a lot of out or left it in shelter's making food yeah they did leave a lot of that in I hope you're saying leave it in because there was some good stuff in there and some pretty funny people some really nice sentimental moments yeah so people settle into the camps Rock Camp has all the resources they're rich they're bearing onions in the dirt they're hiding cans of pasta all that sort of thing log Camp has the least supplies yeah so they left out a lot yep I assume they would have there's probably a lot going on well I said this to someone the other day vol I said when you think about it right especially on episode one first of all there's a hundred people however many dozens of cameras they have going 24 7 like constantly filming there's gonna be a lot that the editors have to get down and when you're talking about episode one of a new series with a new show and all that sort of thing there's gonna be the explanation stuff the context the episode one in any pilot is always just building the universe first right so there's going to be a lot taken up with that sort of thing Vault said we'll have to do a tell or sometime man I'm down for that maybe if it's after season if you're I don't know if you're out of ndas or whatever the case may be but 100 and they're yeah confirming what I said Cara

24:05 Said they have to cut down two days into one and a half hour episode yeah there's a lot of footage there's a lot a lot of footage that they have to get through so yeah they end up with a chance we had a rock log top and Vine tops are smallest with 19 Vine's the biggest with 29. I like the vine like it looked nice they had like the canopy going it looked it kind of looked nice to kind of hang out in you know what I mean yeah they're definitely the fine was definitely given the vibes so we got four camps with a teaser from the official page that there may be a fifth coming of outcasts apparently so that's going to be fascinating the people that I don't know aren't having fun or whatever they're like I'm gonna make my own can we're gonna have hookers and blow no [Laughter] oh gosh he says I am the NDA [Laughter] so yeah they've got the four camps sorry and while they're setting up and going through everything Mike is using this time to sort of contemplate who he's going to choose and we see people avoiding him because you know that you don't think Mucky when the teacher in school is like or teaching class asking someone to read who's going to read and all of a sudden everyone just finds a ceiling

25:25 Really fascinating yeah [Music] and that's what everyone's is doing for like the entire thing with Mike he's like who can I look as soon as you look he's like oh he might pick me so everyone's avoiding Mike completely and he has to make his choice he has to choose six people to go into the challenge he ends up choosing Brett Scott brigsy or Dan Sherwin Tim and I don't know controversial choice or not himself what do you think of the choices he made he said that he was kind of doing it listening to his Camp a little bit but trying to choose what he thought would be strong competitors and then puts himself in it but you know like when I was taking notes you know sort of like writing as I went and like when you put himself in with them I was like oh at first he's getting all like the big strong guys like all the f is together what no he's trying to take up through it early did he put himself in and I had to like Scribble it on my nose I was going what the hell is he doing this your boy man this is the one that you said you like the most yeah exactly I was like you know Mike Michael you know we've got a good thing guys we've got a Brotherhood the companionship

26:45 And I was like oh you know if have you ever thought my you know screws were a bit loose this is definitely a lot looser you know like what was he what is he doing you know the fact that you said you're both Michaels reminding me everything when you were watching it you know how they got the Hunger Games lost loudspeaker there and it tells people to come and he calls Michael to come make his decision because Michael and my wife was watching and she goes there's 100 people and there's only one Michael as if I was like yeah I think there's a Michael and there's a mick and then they'll you know Mike or they do that sort of thing but look Mike is the personal trainer very fit very athletic and a big dude so look Vol if you want to say this sort of thing well very stupid Mike I think was 50 cents short of a dollar man that's on you I am not calling Mike he lives in Sydney too like I don't know like I'm not calling out my Chapman for that he could do things to me so yeah good on your Vault he says it now though he didn't say the two on the island though did you bro oh gosh yeah so Mike picks I mean like you said I at the start I'm going

28:05 Okay he's he's doing the right thing he's picking strong competitors that'll go in and you hope that if only one comes back then you've sent in six right that's five really strong competitors that in all likelihood go home yeah then he puts himself in there I don't know if he thought he's like freaking King of the island or just undefeated like I don't know like what do you think was actually the thought process behind that well maybe it's some kind of like you know I'm going up against some of like you know the best like you know challenge performers right so if he wins that didn't even like wow not only did we perceive him as being really strong that he's now like proven that he's like one of the strongest you know so kind of down the line when people are potentially choosing I'm just going to a challenge they might think oh do I Really Wanna like potentially up against them or do I really want like some other people to go up against them so maybe it's like a fear tactic but it's only the first day yeah I think you're being very gracious man yeah I don't I don't know like as far as look I'm not gonna say that I agree with Vault on that but you know yes we're saying is called out enjoy

29:25 Joy Michael eat you for breakfast [Laughter] there you go as long as it's pancakes he says your pancakes man the freaking syrup bottom that's for sure yeah like I was I was like yeah good pick this look if you're gonna put yourself in first of all would you put yourself in first challenge no I personally wouldn't but if I was to I'd definitely would have put up against you know like Australian babes you know with all like the eight packs and the ten packs and I definitely not up against it's a lot of amount like you know as far as you know when Survivor first started right they went Borneo then they went out back then they went Africa and I remember at the time going man there's so different locations I wonder if they're going to do something really tough like Survivor Alaska or Antarctica or some like crazy crap and then they settled into the island beach thing and I was like ah I get it they're making a TV show and this is no different there's a lot of people in bikinis and a lot of dudes with their shirts off and there's eye candy for everyone there's a lot going on in that show you know it's a absolutely right

30:46 And he picked all of them he's like yeah sure no if I was if I was I wouldn't throw myself in first challenge because you have no idea what's going on like no one even knew I don't even know like I would like to hear it from the cast but I'm assuming based on some of the confessionals and some of the things we saw some of the things were said I don't know how much they knew about what was actually going on yeah like how like they I felt like they were a bit in the dark right because we had Peyton talking about how like oh I had no idea this is what I was in for like this is so outside of my thing like people do I just felt like no one knew anything like they just Islands whatever and I'm not sure how and that's why we saw it play out in like the strategy as well like there wasn't there's we said last week right on a brand new show there's no history there's no track record there's nothing to sort of learn from or see how it works so they're kind of figuring out the meta and figuring out the strategy as they go along but I feel like Mike figured out very early the absolute wrong thing to do yeah that you're absolutely right yeah it's like you know you've got a good position yourself okay this is not a bad decision and then he just chose all

32:06 The bad decisions so let me start off with that and like even the fact that he didn't even ask for a bracelet either it's like no I'm just gonna enjoy the sunset just sit on the beach if it happens yeah because like I was going oh my boy what are you doing like yeah he said that he said there you go karak of Mike show that's what not to do setting the standard from the get-go ah we saw how that didn't work out for him we'll do the opposite go for it but if I did throw myself in maybe not the first challenge but especially because that involved jumping off of a thing and grabbing stuff like I'm that's not me but if I was to do it I'm put I'm putting Melissa I'm putting Vicky I'm putting Christine like you just pick all the old ladies and then just one dude and just like that's what I don't understand why you wouldn't I don't I don't know why if you're going in you make it as weak as possible if you're not going in you make it as strong as possible like that's exactly pretty simple bare basic thing but what we're failing to take into account and we can see it in our comments here from all the people is that it's relationships it's friends it's people that they're there with and you don't necessarily want to throw them all in together you know yeah your husband said I thought

33:26 There'd be slightly better food situation and more to forage but I'm a scout so the rest was no biggie okay so there wasn't that yeah like because Cara was saying that I wasn't supposed to be that tough but still the most incredible experience on mic Vault said I actually respected him observing the loud people like well done there was very happy Dan and Sherwin lost and got picked then answer oh okay interesting I don't know if that's personally motivated or strategically motivated yeah Sherwin didn't come off as a physical threat but Mike saw him as a leader being vocal pulling people together they were throwing up their V's for Vine camp that sort of thing yeah look what Vault said you can pick five people yes but it's a long game almost would put a Target on you for a long duration yeah I guess if you're whittling down the you know the competition then you're just leaving strong competition for the end you know what I mean so yeah there's definitely pros and cons and we're gonna see if these people actually figure it out oh here we go JoJo said Mike was a big guy he gets 3 000 calories a day we're on 250 calories a day 250.

34:47 250 calories a day oh my God man he said he was at his Peak it was his opportunity to show what he could do yeah at one point JoJo he said like on the show because I haven't lost any weight yet so I was like dude it's the first day like yet you know what I mean so yeah I guess they I mean I could see why he would go in I can't see why he stacked it against himself yeah you know I mean like yeah but so into the challenge we have going ultimately Mike picks himself Brett Scott Dan show and Tim the challenge they started on a platform in the water and they have to jump off the platform and hit a bag full of blocks off a hanging pole thingy swim to shore and then put those blocks on a balancing board with holding it one hand with a rope and then balancing that to make a tower of blocks and we've seen very similar challenges on Survivor and it's one of those kind of equalizing things like because what we saw was Brett miss the bag on the jump twice yeah and I was like oh this is what they're doing they got the guy that

36:07 Was like the big bad who's like screaming on TV he's gonna eat people and then he's gonna stuff up the very first challenge I was like oh that's brilliant editing yeah but they got me Mucky because it ended up being even better editing because the dude that was down too bad like missed twice and you can imagine like for me anyway I watch it and I'm just like when I watch these challenges and I'm like oh I don't even want to get out to the platform I quit now I'm not swimming out you know that's really far I don't want to swim that far so I'm out but once you jump go down have to climb the ladder do it again and you're doing the third time that's hard man that takes a lot of that takes a lot out of you know what I mean yeah especially if like I mean I'm not sure because what camp was Britain again was in the camp that didn't have a lot of food or because if you're on the team with not enough food then yeah it must be like so exciting now he was Brett's Rock Britain large they got they got baby onions and rice for days all right they go fine no excuse they even got they got garlic rice that nobody and damper that'll kill people so bread was cool Brett was good
