Survivor 45: Episode 12 Review

1:33 Gone by really quickly and it's been a while since you and I have actually had a one-onone chat about Survivor because this season we've had so many people jump on the podcast obviously Kahuna has become a main stay now on the recap and reviews for Survivor as well we've had Drew come on here as well to talk to us that's coach Drew for those that are also fans of angel cake Drew so it's been a while since I feel like you and I have had a one-on-one conversation about it how is the season sort of playing out for you as we go into the end game here we've now got the final episode coming up has it sort of delivered for you on that 90 minutes and also the characters this season have you been invested do you still feel high on this because I know you were high on it a couple of weeks ago I think that I am just slightly less high on it than I was before but right yeah so far I've been very satisfied with the 90 minutes and I feel like this season could have been more middle of the road if it weren't for the 90-minute episode so I feel like in a way it's saving it from being lower but I'm very satisfied I really like all the characters this season and I feel like

2:54 We'll get into you know who we think can pull this out and win of the people that I think could have a shot I think I'd be satisfied with pretty much any of them yeah I do I do still think there's a few players to me that seem to be the more satisfying winners and there's a few that I would be less interested in seeing win the game but it's not because I dislike any of them like from a likability standpoint I think all of them have got a bit of a backstory now we've gotten to know all of these players that are heading into the final week so I'd be okay as well with them winning from a from just from who they are as a person at least if that makes sense let's say hello to a few people here Danica saying I'll be on the chat for the first half but guess it I'll go pick up one of the kids from their work by seven I'll be honest I'll be glad when Survivor ends and the challenge slides into this time slot Jake wouldn't be aware of that but when Survivor finishes we're going to start doing lives in the same time slot for the challenge kiwi says yeah pretty much so I be replaced by The Challenge and the challenge doesn't stop the challenge will continue on throughout Christmas New Year's at this stage I feel like we're about midseason into that which that's an different time slot compared to what we normally do as well kiwi also says that never would have expected you'd be driving yes Dan always drives around kiwi says is that why your username is cab on the end I used to call her I feel

4:14 Like Danny cab or something in the beginning yeah I think you used to call her that and then Kahuna was like are you sure that's their name yeah and I'm like now that you've mentioned it's probably Danica yeah now she can't unsee it either we've also got dedica saying I like the 90 minutes but I would prefer they split Survivor and The Amazing Race into different days because that is a slog Jake if you're a fan of both of those shows that's basically four hours of TV that you have to watch because it's like what it's an hour and a half of Survivor with ads it's probably two hours yeah close to it I mean personally I really like the Amazing Race of the seasons that I've seen so I mean if I had more time I would totally try to watch this past season I know that it just ended but it's just you know we all got things to do and especially when you know Survivor is like my focus so 100% And I get it listen The Amazing Race I know people some people may not agree with it for me the 90 minutes doesn't work necessarily on The Amazing Race I think the shorter episodes Chang to 90 minutes too they did yeah same time and I believe they're going to stay for 90 minutes as well for the next season similar to what survivors doing but it's just you see more

6:54 Between Austin D or Julie I did ask in the beginning of this podcast a question which will remain open until the end of the live I said who will win this season Austin D Julie catura or Jake all Kat and Jake is in the same category because I still feel low on any of those winning the game very low like if it happens J I think there's a bit of Distinction there but just a little bit but I see I understand why you did that yeah I don't have five spots it only gives me four so I'm like put three that I think have the best chance of actually winning the show yeah how I looked at it Scott says I'm actually rooting for each of the players any of them could win and deserves to win K says I'm really I'm really hoping Jake comes back and takes the win but I believe it'll be Austin you see if Austin wins this season man like it would be so baffling to me how like the edit wise the edit loves him but again he gets outsmarted here in this episode Jake like he's not what is Austin almost like pulled off without his team around him and then all we've seen outside of that is him making mistakes giving his Idol away to Julie letting information slip to D about The Blind Side on Julie and then also D outplaying him again at this hdle again like how does Austin win the season like it would be

8:14 Insane listen I think that you know any of the three of D Julie and Austin could win if they make it to the end against coutura and Jake but I think a like that's Jake's best scenario right there is bringing Austin and coutura to the end but I even then I still think it's a long shot very much but Austin totally I totally see what you're saying you know for the whole season I feel like people have been kind of cooping up Drew and Austin as like sort of both running the show and sort of being big threats to win I just haven't really seen it with Austin I totally understood it for Drew but now he's gone and Great Character we like Austin the character great on the show but really cool dude to just hang out with yeah and also I know he you know followed this podcast early on all socials and things like that so shout out to Austin if he just so happens to listen to this podcast we're not talking about you as a person it's like I'm looking at the strategy behind it like at the moment if I had to look at the hierarchy in my mind on who's potentially winning this season I'd say Julie based on the fact that she's a threat and they haven't gotten rid of her yet and she played an idol to save which looked immense but then I was also thinking about it last night

9:36 Could outshine Julie in a final Tribal Council by saying yes she played the idol but guess why she played the idol I was the one who gave her the heads up I was the one who needed Julie in the game at that point so that I could take control of the vote and take the power away from the boys which I did the very next vote when I did what Austin couldn't do and I kept the secret and we ended up taking Drew out of the game who was a really big threat I feel like that could be a very compelling case so in my mind D could even be the number one person right now to win the show and I'm very shocked yeah I'd be very shocked that if she gets to the end and she doesn't and she's had consistent edit from the start as well like I've got my eyes on D I think she could be a winner oh if we're just getting into it now I'll just say I think D yeah I mean I was on the Emily train for a few episodes there not at the beginning no it wasn't quite that it got you the rise of Emily got you the rise of Emily I you know looking back it kind of makes sense it was more wasn't really so like a growth to winner edit it was more so a growth to fall you know like she realized what she did wrong but unfortunately it just it wasn't enough that was that was her story was that she doesn't win but she was

10:56 Able to look inward in herself and see you know the mistakes that she's making in the game and outside the game but yeah D now that Emily is gone I know I wasn't on the podcast last week but I would have been on the dra train then as well because again I've been I've been tooting this horn the whole time I just knew that Drew was preparing for a fall I just couldn't see same yeah same yeah I never I was I was the whole time because I'm so hyperfocused on our draft and there still a chance for me to win this thing I'm to be honest with you I kind of feel like between you and me like we invited Kahuna in like he was the Trojan Horse that came into the recap reviews and has just dominated when he came in that first season he had by far the strongest team last season wasn't even close and then this season again who would have thought he would have number one two and three still in the game that is a freaking solid track record so he has D yeah who does he have left let's pull it up real quick yeah I'll pull I'll pull it up real quick so you can so you can see here so obviously Drew is going to go I'll take him out we'll talk about the points a little bit later on look at how dominating that is because Austin was his number one pick D was his number two pick I know so Austin was his number one pick

12:16 D was his number two pick and catro was his number three pick so he only lost his bottom picks this whole season which is impressive that is that is the guy honestly if there was gambling in Survivor you could make some money out of it he should be putting money on it next season like of how on the money he was with that and I've been fearful because I knew I had the advantage points wise throughout the whole season but my hopes have firmly been on Drew and Julie for a long time in the game and for a long time I didn't see a way for Julie to win I do think there is a way for Julie to win now if she gets to the end I just don't know if she gets there and then also I see a case for D to be able to one up Julie at the Tribal Council and give information that no one else knew you know basically at that point by saying I was the one who actually controlled both those last two votes I think she would have a lot of power and I think she's smart enough to do it but sure yeah I knew Drew was gone I knew like I was I was ready for the fall on Drew I just enjoyed it while the ride was there and while it lasted with him basically let's see what other people are saying here Nunes in the live as well saying hello Q says he hasn't played a smart game just had a good people with him that's Austin Gabe says Austin winning story is may be beating Dean fire possibly it could be the other way around though

13:38 Actually Scott says Jake would have to idle D out to have a chance at winning yeah I agree denica says if Julie Jake and Katura are smart they'll join up to take control they could vote our D or Austin gab says D can go to the end with anyone and she wins Den says doesn't Jake have to use his at this Tribal Council when immunity he can save someone that's the thing that I didn't fully get like is his immunity idol still good in final five at this point like I thought it would be final six no the one the one that Jake found is good at final five yeah wow so that really UPS you're right probably puts him a little bit ahead of coutura at this stage in regards to where they're going to go but I still wouldn't be surprised if yeah they kind of need the three Rebus need each other for the next round so could have a correct idol play and take somebody out here it could be a snipe it's got to be D he's but I feel like that he doesn't realize that D is the front runner at this point I feel like he's gonna talk Julie I think he's gonna talk to Julie but what I but my prediction is that everybody is gonna Target Julie I think that D is I think D is gonna say this is where we cut Julie because you can't let her and if she doesn't then that's a misplay in my opinion

14:58 Because you can't let her get to fire anyone can win fire you know and also Julie can win immunities we've seen her she hasn't I don't think she's actually won one but she a couple times she G super close and that's kind of like what all of these maybe not the final four immunity but the final five it's probably going to be some sort of endurance you know kind of like the ones that she's done really well at if wer for Bruce but yeah I think that kind of and we kind of saw it this episode where you know Jake sort of thinks that he's the only one trying to Target Drew but that was hilarious to me that was hilarious that scene like where he's like oh I've got this plan you know I'm going to own this and it happens in survivors so often it's very few times that you can say my sole Vote or my sole decision actually was the thing that since someone home and that's what Julie's got that on Emily she's got that she played the idol she voted pretty much yeah like that sort of scenario is like the only way you can say that but I feel like that entire that exact scenario could happen again next time where Jake is like I'm gonna Idol

16:18 Somebody or myself and then take out Julie but then and then looks probably and Cura are also gonna vote for Julie and it's just gonna look like oh is yeah it may end up like that I just want to bring up comments yeah Scott says but D is too likely to win immunity to give Jake that chance now that Emily and Drew are out I'm less interested Den says he's always staying saying stuff at trible dur tribal and during the games and that's Jake's commentary I love man yeah this one here Chris saying Kahuna needs to be studied maybe when it comes to Survivor but on the challenge he's been so off Chris he's been so off on the challenge Tori a goat get out of here kuna get out of here Gabe saying Julie had to take out Austin and d and do that lawyer final three or final five Nunes these last couple of Tribbles before the vote seem most challenging strategically needs to build resume while simultaneously avoiding becoming a Target oh here he is look at him in the live that's K that's Kahuna had that SL yeah it's his other his other account kiwi says if Jake gets rid of D with his Idol then it's anyone's game but he wants to get rid of see and that's that kind of shows exactly right there why Jake is

17:38 So unlikely to win because he has to take out D but then he also has to take out Julie but then he has to take out both of them but yeah one of them is gonna have the chance at fire and any so it's just all up to chance you know so man I love Jake so much I think he's hilarious I think that he's had a really rough you know dice roll go his way but he's also made some mistakes but just had a rough time in the game but man I just can't see him winning as much as I as much as I like him yeah he's a nice guy he's but to me he's like I'll be honest he's mid like he's mid for me as a player like I don't I don't think I'll remember I think 10 seasons from now I'm not going to remember Jake to be honest yeah but he's a nice guy like I don't I think he's a super nice guy obviously he's you know he's gone through some struggles in life he's struggled his way through this game sometimes it's hard to watch someone struggle to the end I really like yeah I really liked his the scene with him getting the idol yeah like Gabe says here Jake has been the Charlie Brown and sometimes I find it hard to watch that type of player in a season but he's still there he's still he's still hanging in there so good on him for that but for me obviously if I had to look at Who currently

18:59 Is left in the game I've liked Austin probably the most as a character Drew was probably my favorite as well and I love the Deo between Drew and Austin but now that Drew is gone I really like Austin probably the most out of all of them just I can relate to him in a lot of different ways I like the sportiness of him I like in school like how he wasn't necessarily the cool kid from the start he's sort of he's evolved he's blossomed after school you know he's gotten into these kind of things where I definitely when I was in school I was a bit of a comedian I sort of hanged out with the kids that were in sports because I did play sports but also hanged out with the kids that were into playing computer games and you know wanted and back then gaming was not a cool thing like now all the kids want to be Gamers right back then it was like oh you're a gamer you're a gig you know basically so that has completely shifted generationally if you look at the younger kids these days so I can I can understand kind of a little bit of where he comes from and that whole conversation about him probably never feeling confident enough to talk to someone like D in his real life but on the show now he's had that opportunity and she's really liking him and they're forming this relationship I find really cool because at school I was the same I wasn't the most confident kid when it came to approaching girls that sort of changed for me after school after I sort of went into the real world and had some time away from that sort of situation so I can kind of relate to that and

20:19 And I hope that this thing between Austin and D does last but I'm a little bit worried for this relationship moving forward because Austin was a lot more transparent in the game than what D has been and he looked ped at the end of this episode I know because it's like the exact same scenario like basically textbook the same exact scenario happened two tribes in a row just the roles reversed and she just said no not gonna tell him I mean that just goes to show why D is the front runner right now I mean she's actually that's what I think she should win I would I would want her to win because she's playing the game the way it should be played yeah I and she says she's like I mean I do really like this guy you know like I would really like to hang out with him and get to know him more after the show so it's not like that she's just like completely heartless and doesn't you know is just abusing her abusing this guy's emotions it's just she's just she just has that you know thing in her brain where it tells her to separate the two and just I like the fact that she came into the game and a lot of people I feel like they know their weaknesses but they don't have the ability to act upon it and she said I knew

21:39 Coming into this game my weakness is I care too much I'm too emotionally invested in things and I gave myself permission not to be that person on the show I told myself I'm not going to let my heart take over I didn't know who was going to be on the show prior to coming on she didn't she even said to Austin last week she didn't want to show man that was the last thing she wanted so she didn't even Envision getting something like this coming into the show and she had the ability to remove herself from that situation because you don't know like in a show like Survivor you connect on such a deeper level you get to know people so intensely because you're spending so much time with them and you're also in an environment where you're relying on this person for your safety in the game will that translate to real life will they still feel the same when they're in their normal environments and you know a million dollars that's good to have that's a that's a that's a sure thing that's a sure thing if you get out of this game so I applaud D I think it was Savage but I think it was amazing like that is what I want to see from a game player so kiwi says Austin screwed everything by telling D yet she used her brain and didn't tell him or did she I don't think she did I think if she did Austin would have saved Drew I do think he would have been there and by the way by the way Drew is the person who should feel the most pissed in this situation by Austin because Austin screwed

22:59 His game up multiple times in this season like every time he's like Austin why did you do this Austin why are you sharing too much information here you know like he's constantly getting screwed by this guy who's playing the game with him and yeah it was hilarious to watch because I think Drew could have he probably had a pretty good path to the end if it wasn't for the fact that his main Alliance made some fatal mistakes it wasn't even Drew's mistakes necessarily that got him voted out in this round he made Drew definitely made some mistakes I mean just he even said in his exit interviews that he just didn't he didn't really see d as a threat right when he definitely should have clearly but you're absolutely right that Austin should take a lot of blame here for Drew's downfall yeah man I mean I yeah I hope that Drew is has forgiven him forgiven Austin but man I'd be piss too Nunes says in his ex interview Drew still seems ticked off and obviously it was it was a little bit alarming after I picked Drew I didn't know beforehand when people told me he removed himself from all socials he's not on it he's not really engaging and it's a shame because I do think like if we looked at Drew like Drew's

24:19 Inspired me this season Jake to change up the draft next season I'm going to change up the draft because of Drew because coming into this specific soe Drew is the mo he's the MVP he's had the most points out of everyone on the draft that we've done which I think is amazing so I thought to myself we need a new category for next season and that category has to be the blue stock or blue chip pick for the draft so the person who gets picked the lowest but ends up with the most points will also get bonus points at the end of the season because it puts an extra layer in there like can one of us pick like a Golden Goose kind of late somewhere in the in the draft that will provide us with another bonus category of maybe like 25 points or something because I feel like the season Drew had being picked so low by us coming into this like applause like he outperformed or you know did so much better than what I think any of us thought he would do coming into this season definitely yeah and he was entertaining that's why he's leading the drop he's by far got the most confessionals oh he has the most confessionals wow I actually didn't know that no I would love that for that to be I mean let me have got me even more points for picking gabler back two SE the good old days when I actually was good at this

25:40 Feels like a lifetime ago now yeah so he's got 65 confessionals in total second highest is Emily at 62 Emily's got 62 so he's only just overtaken Emily this episode but still how many does d have D actually has got the fewest I think of everybody that's or no not the few second she's second to the bot no third to the bottom she's kind of right in the middle 52 confessionals you've got at the bottom Julie at 42 and then Jake at 46 below her pretty balanced yeah it's very balanced and especially if you look at the rest of the people that are in there Austin and Katura tied for first of the players that are still in the game at 57 confessionals each who thought Kat man she had a lot of smack talking to do throughout this season she had to get it in by the way let's talk about Cura a little bit the Third Wheel this episode the person who gets to go on the date with d and Austin and I absolutely loved it because when they were on the what did he call it that little island thing s spit s pit or something like that I can't remember like that yeah anyways while they're there and they're eating you can just see coutura side eye ca's got the best side eye in Survivor history I absolutely loved to see Cura on this reward with them do you think that Austin in the inside

27:00 He was dying a little bit when he got the option to choose D to go with him on this picnic and then suddenly he was forced to pick a third wheel to go with him as well yeah and oh my gosh speaking of Drew being pissed off I mean him being picked to be like the babysitter he was so mad oh my gosh he did like the Captain America shield throw with the pot oh my God but yeah no he was I was I was expecting Austin to be like Can it can it just be us to actually or Jeff can you be the third wheel kind of like Robin Amber back in allar yeah get the truck and Jeff sits in the in the passenger seat instead of Amber didn't Jeff do that with I feel like did he did he go like in the first season with who was it Kelly or something that he went out to the beach and they had like a dinner or something was something strange it was really cringey in that it was just him and Kelly and they went to like a bar yeah the first episode the first episode was airing on the TV you just don't see that kind of thing anymore very interesting yeah he was Jeff was awkward a few times in that first season like now that I think about it back in the day but hey we still got

28:20 The show but yeah that was a that was a funny little moment with them going there obviously Austin pulling it out and winning the helicopter flyby definitely killed me that killed me I was like the production team knew how to rub it in they knew how to rub it in and they're like all waving and they're like oh no Drew's just standing there he's pursed they could tell even in the helicopter they're like he's not happy Jake was pissed too but at least he was had the decency to wave back but Drew just couldn't even hide it I mean man oh it was that's TV gold TV gold and what did you think about the this is where I have to say I do like I mean like I said I'm bit harsh I don't think like I said you know Jake a couple of seasons from now I don't know if I'll necessarily remember him but this moment here was brilliant from him where he's like I'm supposed to be you know Babysitting Mama Julie hell no I'm out here trying to find an idol I'm G to go do my own thing like I mean I'm not here to be babysitting anyone she's a grown woman you know and I like the fact that he was like I'm not even I'm not even in this Alliance what the hell are you talking about me trying to babysit and I respect the fact that both for them like they were playing the how did Drew not think that those two leaving together looking for Peppers wouldn't result in them looking for an idol like it was a big oversight on his behalf yeah I mean and that's like an kind of an impossible job to give somebody

29:41 Because what is Drew just supposed to like literally follow them around everywhere like that's so insulting you know and obviously we've actually seen that happen but I mean I it's at the same time like it's like I don't fault Drew for not actually doing it but for him to be surprised oh crap did they look for something of course they did you know like come on so yeah and again I think this goes to show just kind of I felt like this was sort of like a olive branch moment with Jake and Julie and I felt like Julie just was like he was like he's like I you know I'll let you look for Idols if you want you know I'm not going to not going to stop you I'm a fun babysitter is what he said if you want to stay up past your btime I won't tell your mom and dad you're right you want you want you want a bit you want a bit of sugar after 9:00 p.m it's all good with me you know I'm the fun cool babysitter you know and then but yeah then later in the episode you know Jake I think comes up to her and offers to vote on Drew and she's just like so I don't know I feel like J has been kind of he's got no agency he's got just no

31:01 No agency man yeah he's just he's just been behind he's been two or three steps behind every single round basically because he was sort of the first person to be like we need to break up this reeba Alliance he wanted to go after Julie back in the day and everybody was focused on Caleb yeah he his move to try and get Caleb or keep Caleb in the alliance to make moves was definitely the right move but you could blame the people around him I blame coutura and Bruce for never being able to see I to ey and actually getting past the beef and that goes to show like he kind of yeah he just got unlucky on that starting tribe it's not his fault that Bruce and coutura hate each other you know and you know Bruce and Cur for The Amazing Race I reckon be amazing that's what we need we need a little bit of spicy casting on The Amazing Race if we get Bruce and coutura on there together I reckon it would be funny as hell they need to do that theme again where they do put two strangers together I've seen I've only seen like four seasons of The Amazing Race and that was one of them my favorite absolute favorite that was the best season ever yeah you want you want to see people working together that have never worked together before

32:22 And then you know the personality clashes are going to come in and how they do things I don't know how people don't think that's good TV like this season of The Amazing Race and den brings up Rivals Amazing Race I think that would be great this season of The Amazing Race was just I don't know was everybody was likable just likable teams and I'm like you know who can I who can I root against like who brings a bit of spice to the show you know and I guess there was one team people didn't like as much but I don't know it was like it wasn't the same it's not like old school times you know so I would love to see something like that but also another thing about coutura like while we're on her what did you think of her early Idol hunt and Austin catching her in the act man it's just funny she this is the second time that she's been caught in plain sight just looking for an idol like I feel like people other people do better job at you know kind of being more discreet but also at the same time it's like why are you guys that crazy about Cura finding something you know it's like I feel like they shouldn't really care that much that she would find an idol what is she gonna do with it you know no 100% it was funny it was funny just how in the moment she was she was so hyper focused on finding something she didn't even hear Austin

33:42 Coming up to her while she's looking and her reaction to it was so funny seeing the smile she's like oh I got caught I got caught in the act here and then Austin this is where Austin's shows some skill we've been hard on him in regards to some of his strategy but he could have made a feel bad in that situation he didn't he used his emotional intelligence by trying to say oh we're in this together just make sure that Julie doesn't see you doing it because then she'll go look for it as well we don't want her to have the idol so he immediately makes her feel not so bad about the fact that she got caught in that moment so hats off to him it might seem like an insignificant little line that he threw in there but I that shows why he's really good at the game I totally I totally thought that in that moment I was like oh that was a good reaction by Austin instead of just being like H uhuh can't be doing that Couture like yeah kind of like making fun of her I age Drew have reacted the same way it's the question would he have been as good probably not no he would have made a joke about it for sure but I don't know if it would have go gone over the same way Chris I know I know you weren't the biggest fan of analy was just hyper competitive and she definitely she was she was basically telling her dad to keep running and her dad was like I was thought he was going to pass out a couple of times in the game she's just like come on dad come on you got to keep moving and

1:00:24 And then on my side I am still leading by nine points though so it's getting very tight very spicy getting into the end game here I've got 408 points Kahuna's got 399 points overall I've got one player left in the game it's Julie she's on 87 Kahuna has got three players left in the game he's got Austin who's is top Point getter at 100 points D second best point getter at 93 points and then coutura at 70 seven points for those who are not aware we give points for different things such as confessionals Team Challenge wins individual immunity wins making the MS successful Advantage players finding the advantage votes against them runner up and winner all gets different points and then there's also some bonus categories at the end of the season the bonus categories will be for most confessionals which Drew is in the running for that but there is an episode left so he probably will lose out on that most individual immunity wins which at this stage would be Bruce and D most advantages found which would be a draw I believe between Drew and Austin at this stage least votes casted against them which I need to double check who that would be and then most advantages played correctly which at this stage is which at this stage is Caleb and Julie for advantages played correctly so there is a couple of potentials for me to get some bonus points but it is going to be
