Survivor 46: Episode 7 Review

1:34 It feels like the season is starting to like resurrect itself you know it's like a proper dragon half dragon half mermaid with you know the first part of the Season probably being the dragon the ugly part but then under the surface the beautiful mermaid taale is coming out of the merge part of the season going up how are you feeling you know I know you're someone that has been very critical at times is your called melting that ice heart that you have are you warming up to the season we need to know how do how do we want to play this do we want we still want the villain on the show just to critique constantly we could do that angle but I am I'm turning around because this was a definitely like I did say I think the bar is low like we started off from a low point and maybe that's the strategy they're like we're going to come home super strong because the start's going to be so bad there's going to be references to mermaid tales and dragon heads that do not make sense at all but they'll still reference it six episodes later on podcast because it's so memorable for being bad but yeah it's a low start but this was a great episode lots to actually lots of I don't know if it's the right decisions but there were decisions there's gameplay there's lots of strategy being put in play and it was fun to see definitely

2:54 Some surprise results Anyway come out of it well we all know that I am team TV so in my mind every single decision this week was the right decision for TV and I really enjoyed it from a just in spectator standpoint at least but we will get into quite a lot of the different moves that were made because For the first time in a long time we actually have some strategy to talk about which gets me excited I even texted Jake before we jumped on and I said I'm actually I'm excited to get on the podcast I'm excited to talk about this episode and I tell you what it's a hell of a lot better when you're coming into a podcast and you feel like talking about it because there's been some gaml so we've got kiwi back here saying woohooo let's go I'm loving these reviews thank you for entertaining us and thank you kiwi for your loyalty and always being here Gabe also saying this is probably the best episode of gameplay so far lots to discuss and critique about it and kiwi is agreeing with that Sarah saying so excited to talk about this we've got Jay back Jay welcome back as well we've got the nullified Trio here that is correct Sarah yes I did get a haircut I had so many comments even yesterday on the challenge recap that I did that I feel like I should be doing this haircut more often because definitely chat's constantly complimenting it so I appreciate you all you think more people you think more people are hopping on the lives on they see the haircut they're like oh

4:15 Okay check it out we have to I know what gonna do for thumbnails going forward Chris is the thumbnail no more it's just Chris's face there's no reference to Survivor no reference to the chall Chris's face I'll do I'll do the classic Beast thumbnails where I'm like just excited and shocked about everything the whole time and it'll get more people on the channel AR Nunes is saying hi Chris Kahuna and Jay good to catch you live this week Jay is saying this is probably the best double Tribal Council episode in the new era because in other Seasons when there was a split tribal one tribal was good and one was bad or neither were good but both were good here and I agree I was super L I think all three of us were low on the split tribal Dynamic coming back but this was probably the best one because the Dynamics of who ended up where ended up being quite interesting and then having this massive Rift in the old Nami tribe I mean so much to talk about the Kenzie the Mermaid Dragon moved up into the winter pick to the top three yeah I can see I could see her being a potential Contender I just don't I still don't see how she gets to the end I feel like she's just too nice and there's people who are going to clock her I feel like before she even gets to the end but definitely a good episode for her thank you so much Sarah I appreciate you so looking at episode seven

5:35 We get back to Camp Jake and ummi sorry several episod several thank you for correcting me on this jalinski would be proud but we get back to Camp right and Venus goes off right like she's like who voted for me it's got to be you soda like her reads have been pretty cold this season so far and I've got to say one thing like you know if Kenzie's gone up in people's estimation for where her winner rankings is I think that having more screen time has done the opposite thing for Venus well really it's just been just access to more people that's brought Venus down I think it's just like she pissed off everybody at Nami she gets she's like I hate all these people I'm going to turn on the second I the second I get to then she gets to merge and she's like okay hey guys I'm I want to flip on everybody but she's being so yeah open it's like actually like you are really off-putting the way that you talk to us so no thanks and so it's just everybody is like NAMI it's like everybody sees where they were coming from and it's a bit unfortunate because I think that she's had she's had some okay ideas on

6:55 On how the game should go but yeah her reads on what actually going on specifically who voted for her not good yeah and then interesting because I remember I remember the chat earlier in the season telling me that there were hidden scenes about t being very mean girl to her or like sort of there was like this bully Dynamic going on I haven't seen it myself maybe I should go and watch it but I also think it's interesting because if Venus is the person who's got problems with so many different people she's the common denominator there Kahuna like she's constantly coming up as the person who's got beef she's constantly coming up as someone that has and again she's probably and again this is where some people will come in the live after with some blasters and say why are you guys hating on Venus don't hate her I don't know her as a person but we're seeing enough of her on the edit to show us that she's not very subtle when it comes to talking with people like she's this 20y old trying to like come to like even Mariah in this episode trying to like kind of strong arm her into a move and you know her and soda has had problems now Mariah doesn't like her or Maria and then you also have t who doesn't like her like it seems like she's the common one that consistently comes up beautiful girl obviously and I know the internet loves her and it's great to have someone that is like a bit

8:15 Like I mean I'm glad she's on the season don't get me wrong because it brings entertainment but I just feel like she's not a great playoff Survivor Kahuna at least like she doesn't have the skill set required to be seen as a pver like character like some people said earlier in the season yeah like I think my call was pretty accurate I'm feeling good in my prediction that she's just got that pretty girl usually gets what she wants but it doesn't really translate to Survivor and Maria like for to actually call it out like first of all Maria didn't even know she was in that Alliance to begin with like she just got put in there by default so this she didn't know there's no way Venus could know but Maria still said like she's just not reading the room like that's not yeah like to actually say it to camera she's not reading the room and then Venus proba not necessarily narrowly but was an option to go home name came out avoided it and then as far as reading the room and being humble in Victory she's like I did that like you know she's still putting off people and Tevin and Liz did not like or at least that's what the edit showed us like just the flash of annoyance at Venus claiming you know Victory or credit or whatever just

9:36 Again just not reading the room and knowing what how you're coming off to people is probably we're finding with Venus a very important skill in a game like Survivor gab has mentioned this before he says I love Venus fun TV character but yeah her game is bad reminds me of Eliza from Vanuatu Eliza also very blunt that season but we can talk a lot about Venus in this moment Jake but I know you're someone that's on the Charlie watch for us every week you're looking at what is this guy bringing to the show outside of his Taylor Swift songs that he that he recalls every now again and very bizarre gameplay by this guy like coming out telling everybody like oh by the way Venus it was me you know sorry why like I mean is I just don't get it like what is happening with surviv players these days where they just feel like honesty is the best policy because he was getting away with this cleanly it could have backfired on him so easily especially if you look at where he ended up on the tribe different tribe Dynamics and being the only his vote he's just lucky that the Rifts have been so deep even before the merch that it didn't end up backfiring on him but I just don't get that gameplay from Charlie I don't either there's really

10:56 No I would love to hear an explanation I don't know if Charlie even gave one in the episode I'd love to hear it I don't think anything could convince me that it just keep your mouth shut especially when you see Venus and soda are fighting because Venus is absolutely certain that it was soda who did it just let it happen just watch it all unfold just sit back and just watch it all burn down I mean that's what you're supposed to do and Q sees this and it's like oh coach is coming out now I have to take Charlie aside like he's the wide receiver that dropped the ball or ran the wrong route on his on the play and says you can't do that Charlie you can't do that why did you do why did you tell her nice guy like if I was ever to play Survivor I want there to be a Charlie on my tribe you know just someone that doesn't have that poker face and is honest and up front I really want that person but not good for him if he wants to win the game couple of interesting comments coming up here in the live J says I think Venus is the way she is because she was bullied in school and feels she needs to be ultra aggressive to get people to respect her obviously she spoke I think a little bit about that when she first came to America and all of that so obviously that's also a reason why a lot of people saw that Underdog Story in her

12:16 And I and I understand that and I think she's young she's 20 years old like you know and a lot of people will say oh well you know not because not everybody that's 20 years old is the same but she clearly does she still lacks I feel a little bit of social skills or just that back and forth like that she'll learn over time like as you get older you kind understand like it can't always be your way I remember when I was 18 I was Bloody obnoxious I thought everything should be the way I saw the world you know I was very strong world and I think being strong world in the real world is good because you get ahead in life by sometimes pushing your way through things but on Survivor you've got to learn that subtlety and I think if she looks back at this game down the line and she sees how she was being portrayed or seen by other people it will probably change her like we see it all the time with like the challenge for instance Kahuna you know you've got someone like a bananas who constantly says I look back at myself when I was in my early 20s and I look at myself now and I've actually you know I've taken a lot from that now obviously they go back every single season but I think ven is just she's just young you know and with time that will change yeah absolutely like everything is I sound so old when I say like that talk this but yeah everything is experienced like and the more like if I can use an analogy

13:37 When you get puppies puppy dogs I know Jake's a big fan you probably know this with your puppies Jake but when there's a litter of puppies and they play and they're rambunctious and they'll bite if they do that little bite a little bit too hard the parent or whoever will bite back right yeah and until they get that bite back they don't know that they're doing it a little bit too hard they don't realize that they're playing a little bit too much and it might actually hurt so she's like biting she's playing she's playing putting it out there and she's very blunt with it and she hasn't had the bite back that goes stop it like you're playing too hard in the game or even just someone saying to her right like she's seen her name go out and that's a little that should be a little bit of a nip to go why is my name like maybe I'm doing a little bit too much but it's she's going to get it come back to very soon if she doesn't sort of reain in the way she's CU she like Jake said she made one tribe angry found some more did the same thing so like at some point that was gonna be the in my mind in my mind I was like okay she is on a tribe that she has just not jelled with okay it happens merge is the time for you to flip the script there's new people to meet there's new people to bring in for alliances and it just hasn't gone her

14:57 Way and it's just I just can't see her winning at this point but it's also the way that we see her approaching people I don't want to dunk on Venus too much like we've kind of explored a lot of things but you know it's that subtlety of going to someone and saying hey I like you I want to play with you I think this is a great person to go to go for but what do you think like do you think that's a good idea or what would you rather do it's like that back and forth where you're not seen as someone that is forcing your ideas on someone else there's another person who's getting away with it and we're going talk a little bit about this as well and that's Q right is man I feel like he's the fine of the Season like honest to God like he's the fine of the season when it comes to the entertainment that he brings he would be so frustrating to play Survivor with because can you imagine being in an alliance with Q where he's constantly flipping his vote he's constantly changing and we've seen it now more than once happen he's constantly looking for the opportunity to coach you know like even here with Charlie where Charlie goes and talks to know Venus in this like says to Venus like I voted for you see Q pulling him aside saying hey mate that's not how you do Survivor you got to do X Y and Z because you know this is going to be the full out kuna what's your thoughts on Q this episode because he was all over it like I mean at

16:17 The moment I feel like he definitely struggles a little bit with main character syndrome so far this season where everything's revolving around him the vote has to go his way he's kind of like forcing the pace of the game at this point yeah I mean it's worked out for him like when you talked about strong will people getting what they want like the alliance that the plus one Alliance shouldn't really be a thing like you don't just rock up to the thing strangers you've never met before go how about an alliance and it lasts like we see it every year but it doesn't last right like this is actually almost through his own determination she will of force has this even become a thing and looking like quite strong but it's almost like again it's if it's going to be the most cliched story that's ever been told is you know ego come before the fall and all that and we're seeing already when he's trying to be too controlling we've got a bunch of people here that might not necessarily want to be controlled and as entertaining as it is it's also going to be entertaining if that is the actual downfall because I do love Q as a character and I do love seeing him and the way he even just his accent and the way he talks just makes me smile like and when he gets flustered it's even better oh

17:38 Like you need subtitles sometimes and it's so great but I don't necessarily think it's he's a great player necessarily because he really choked a lot of those early games now he's playing it off it part of his yeah like part of his I don't think he can do that like his ego would not let him lose on purpose especially when they're like getting decimated so now he's playing it off that way and we're starting to see tiffan and Kenzie maybe not liking it going forward so it's going to be interesting he's definitely fun that's for sure I love it I'm all in on the Q messiness of it all and I've got to say you know you kind of called it here he said that he threw the challenge and my first instinct my first thought was no you didn't you're Beering to the camera to look good but then a lot of what he says like Q is complex Jake because a lot of what he says actually does make sense like he's got a strategic mind for the game and what I really like about Q is yes he's way too overpowering yes he's trying to be the next Boston Rob but he explains and articulates his strategy to the camera extremely well like every single time when he's got a move that he wants to make like for instance you know Tim coming to him saying we need to go for Hunter he's like Hunter is part of the six

18:58 Tim clearly is trying to play the middle ground where he wants to keep his close Sega people happy while sort of using the purple tribe the yanu tribe to take out the Nami numbers like he's actually got a good read so it kind of makes me like conflicted did he actually throw the challenge is he actually smarter than what he is but he's just not really good at getting people on board with him like I don't know where I sit with Q right now and I love that I feel pretty similarly I think that he sort of has tinges of Venus in him you know of like how he approaches people sometimes like how the hell Hunter and Tim like how he was able to get them to just straight up tell them tell him who their closest allies were on well Tim lied well Tim never in really Tim never really said that he lied I mean did he think that Maria was his closest Ally I don't know but it seemed didn't seem like that to Maria but Mar didn't know lost am I back you're back we can hear you okay right cool but the fact that Hunter actually admitted to Q after just being like okay who's your number one Ally who's your number one Ally

20:19 Let's all make an alliance together you know and he actually he actually got Hunter to tell him yeah it's teevin you know let's do it like you just met each other two seconds ago and the first thing you hear is him demanding you to give him information but I mean as kahun was saying I mean I just love this guy I think he is killer casting sorry go ahead Chris was saying like he's very good at articulating his strategy and put and much of that I think is coaching you know what when he was not good at that at all was explaining the freaking alphabet game that was brilliant no one understood what to do but that was so much fun great TV yeah and I feel like they started getting it wrong on purpose like Charlie Did on purpose that was great yeah you can see his look to Jeff and he's like yeah I messed that up on purpose just to get under his skin but I think like you know Jay got an interesting question he said do you guys think someone like Q who can be annoying and controll is worth taking to the end as a player who people wouldn't want to vote for or would you vote him out just because he impeaches your game for me personally if I was to play the game I think

21:39 This far out from the end you just want to get to the end with people that you can predict and I think that maybe with Q you can but you also can't because he changes on the dime when it comes to who he wants to vote for so and I know that my voice probably wouldn't matter as much if I was there talking with Q about strategy so I don't know if I would want to take him to the end but the one thing I can say is that you know if I was to be on the jury sure as hell hope Q's not there because Q's going to be coaching everybody on how to vote and what to look out for in the perfect winner of Survivor his voice will be the loudest at fond Roa for sure but I don't think I would necessarily want to take him too deep in the game with me I do want to move on slightly from that we have this moment here in the opening sort of minutes of the show where Ben has a panic attack in the middle of the night and like again I think it just brings into perspective how tough Survivor is like I mean I've now applied for Australian Survivor I don't know if I'll get on or not I mean it'd be amazing it' be like a dream come true similar to Jake who has applied un know in the past for Survivor us like we'd both love to play but I feel like sometimes you don't see these moments like they're very real moments of being out there in the cold something getting into his head him just panicking having this freak out moment it really shows you how tough Survivor can be on the side of things

22:59 As well and I think that we a lot of the times we kind of forget that so seeing that and then seeing how Kenzie helps him out there in the night it's so good to see the human moments where this is bigger than the game itself and that even when you're playing a cutro game for a million dollars you still want the best for people around you I thought it was a very wholesome moment yeah absolutely it was just nice to see people being good people and I think keny's been that like she's she shows that's not a ploy or strategy at all it's just part of her personality but I do think one of the benefits of that is that she'll probably reap some rewards socially and strategically in the game by like I think Ben like we saw again Q being weird by the way I hated seeing it and I cringed but even Q praising Kenzie because of that moment and hijacking tribal completely just for that but Ben obviously is probably in you know till death do us part in loyal to her after a moment like that and she's you know she didn't vote Ben out when probably Ben was the smart thing there so she might have a bit of a link there as well just by having a very real moment that when you treat people well when you treat people with respect it actually does come

24:19 With some benefits in the game also which is interesting lesson to learn if we actually do see that play out I think that something like this if it were to happen to me like if I were in B shoes like that is something that like makes me want to work with you it makes me feel like we have some sort of connection like you always need like a little spark you know to kind of come off you know it's easy when you when you start on the same tribe because it's like wow like we came into this game together you know and as you like that relationship just grows and grows and grows as you go on but at merge it's hard to just make instant connections or alliances with people to get them to trust you and this is a good way to do it obviously I don't hope that people have panic attacks just so you can you know but I think that Ben is the and especially because I think Ben is the type of guy to really appreciate this really all of sea seems to like have very like emotional and personal connections that they value in alliance members yeah no I totally agree with for everything you just said and I think this was a very key Moment Like if people are saying Kenzie could be a winner like I could see that I mean she's had a very solid edit from the start of the Season she's never

25:39 Really gone missing from our screens she's definitely in the in the hunt and I mean she's also been targeted as a threat very early on in the season by the likes of aanu so she's got a story 100% could see her win the season and by her showing compassion definitely and then Q sort of you know digging a hole for himself a little bit throughout the season like you know I would have said q and Tiff probably would have been the two more stronger people in that Tri to potentially get to the end and win but I think with Q spiraling out it's also leaving Tiff in a very vulnerable position potentially at some point even though she is a part of the six they've now taken somebody out in the six and we know as soon as one person goes how tight is that six really going to be is that really going to be a thing moving forward now that you know people can be disposable within the six or you know I'm very interested to see if Maria or Mariah sort of slots into the six still now and if she could bring Charlie with as her second as a part of the six like I think that is a possibility because you know a lot of people are saying Q can't win the season I don't totally agree with that yet I think that yes he's annoying people and we only see especially Tiff and Kenzie at this point who are very annoyed by him because they've had to deal with him for a lot longer than the others and they've been in the same camp but you know the way that he was able to bring Mariah in

27:00 I thought was still pretty good like I mean she does feel like she's got some sort of a connection with the six so I think it's too early to say he's got no shot but he's definitely not coming across looking great and they're make the edit is making fun of him on purpose and that is never a good sign when it comes to going to the end if you see people making fun of you but then again they try to make fun of gaer quite a bit as well when he was doing all the different things that he was talking about when he was in that challenge people were like what is this guy on about when won the IMM did that so 100% so you just you just don't know this is this new era Survivor anything can definitely happen from this but a very great moment to see now Jake I know you're someone that is a student of the game you've watched a lot of Survivor how awesome was it to see this immunity challenge come back because like you know this to me is it's like one of my favorites it probably didn't play out the way the producers wanted it because the water was so calm but I really love it's so simplistic it's all about endurance get onto these pyramid you know sort of structures on the water and balance they didn't even show us where they stepped onto the bottom one immediately in the edit they were on the second one and I think maybe they went to the second one immediately because the water was so calm but how cool is it to see some of these old school Throwbacks come back into the game at times yeah I mean I like I like these types of challenges

28:20 There's just simple endurance and it and we had some funny moments in it as well you know as you all know not a huge challenge guy but you know simple ones like this I dig it yeah I think the editors were like so I was going to say I think the editors were like thanking God they had that like the jokes in there like when Tim was doing a shout outs the Alphabet game because I think it would have been really boring without that like it was so boring they had to do that right like how if it's a it's yeah like obviously it wasn't their fault like it is a classic challenge but what up that day it was yeah you learned something new every day you learn something new I learned something new I know I had no idea I've never heard of that before Jake was did you know about that what time it is yeah no I didn't know yeah com to see that it was Universal though because well not Universal but Q like team was right it is black people how black people ask what time it is because Q was like hey he's asking so it wasn't like Tim had to explain it Q explained it for him so Q knew exactly so that's legit you know what I mean yeah even seeing the back and forth between like q and Tim and like them giving each other

29:40 Stick while Q sitting on the sidelines talking a lot and Tim's like your dad told you to sit still and be quiet you're right it was it was it was hilarious to see but I feel like if we didn't have those moments they probably would have given us flashback scenes at this point so we probably got save from some flashback scenes because of the fact that we still did get a flashback scene off season 44 where the water was so you know turbulent on the day that nobody could actually stay up there for longer than what I think it was seven minutes so very different show several minutes but it was interesting seeing them go to have we ever seen them go to the do we I can't remember if we've ever seen people go onto the top with one leg on it as the thing that throws them off that was an interesting variation towards the end because that obviously would make a lot harder yeah I know in kagay Yan they got to the top I don't know if they ever had to do the one leg I think by that point the water had kind of gotten a little choppy that oh yeah was season 42 my bad these Seasons whole feel like you were just saying the other day that you would have gotten the challenge that pu that Hunter had clearly I would have had season 44 signed before season 42 like I mean what can I say you know Chris come on yeah I don't know

31:00 If I've ever seen the one leg before that seemed crazy I could never do that yeah looked intense looked intense but I mean obviously you know towards the end there we've got Kenzie winning out big and orange and we've got Mariah winning for the purple team so it was quite interesting seeing Mariah and the likes of go head tohe head towards the end T saved himself very well that crazy he was like he was like horizontal and he like came back up what a save yeah so that was interesting to see and this is where the show gets spicy because you know they've got the pre-trial round they split into these different groups and yeah I guess we can start off a little bit here by talking about the purple Group which is obviously the one that Mariah's and Charlie is in Charlie automatically thinks he's going to be the next one out but little do we know like you know nami's been waiting for this opportunity to go after each other this whole game you know Venus is going talking to we spoke about her approach not being great but soda also is kind of keen on getting Venus out of the game and I understand it from son's soda's point of view because Venus have been coming at her the whole time in the game but the one Dynamic to me that just I'm still unclear on as a viewer and I don't know if you guys feel the same way about this kuna explain to me why T and soda just doesn't

32:21 Get along like I feel like it's it almost feels like personal between the two and I just don't get it because sod is somewhat of a good strategic player somewhat of a good social player she's seen as a big threat in the game just by being nice did this whole thing make sense to you and is it a good gameplay move by T to go after soda because I feel like soda was like I'm tip with t like he's my guy like didn't he just lose a very key number in the game like I just didn't get it from his point of view at least in the show and she said it in the game like when she was actually putting the idea out there for Venus she said you know you know we're on the same page you know you're my man like we'll always be together and for that to be one-sided always feels funny like when someone's so in on like they're 100% confident and the other person's literally plotting to stab them in the back is always like a like cuz I like I think soda was 100% with teevin and that's something you got to think about when you're t as well because I know he's got Hunter and that's his plus one and Hunter is 100% with Kevin but hunter is a target like we saw it in this episode like Tim was trying really hard even against the plus one Alliance even against his own interest he sees the threat in Hunter and as much as that is a bit of a meat Shield it can also mean that your number one becomes the number one Target and soda would

33:41 Have been really good in that regard as far as a loyal side plus one to have like soda is friendly not a threat is out there and she could have been like apparently Liz hated her as well I don't I had no idea with that Hunter was getting annoyed by her campfire songs so yeah that's right so maybe soda was putting people off more than I thought or at least more than they showed us that might be Jeff trying to show us the bright positive happy all the time especially with someone like soda who that's the vibe I got from her but maybe that super happy bright happy fun my only issue is voting someone out because they're obnoxious or that's just not a good enough I guess you know like Daryl is saying here I remember T saying that the start he didn't like us sort of was playing so hard in the game and a lot of them were saying like Venus ised yeah exactly she can't win on her own she can't win her like she does need a someone's playing hard but she's playing hard for you like yeah that's a good thing but I think teevin just wants to be the one calling those shots and be the social butterfly that has all the Nets and he didn't like that she had just as many connections as he did yeah I think that I think you're what
