Survivor 47: Episode 3 Review

0:13 [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] welcome back to the IFI take where we have the TNT takes for you on Survivor 47 episode 3 I'm back with coach Drew and I am back from vacation I know you guys missed me so much last week Drew you handled it well what did you think of this episode I loved it I mean we're batting three for three right now as far as far as The Season's concerned and I if you don't know me at this point everyone out I am a New Era truther and I will say that this season

1:34 Is even for the naysayers of the new era which I know that you people still exist I think this season is off to a hot start I'll talk about one little nitpick that I had with this episode in particular but like I think we're doing we have a lot of fun characters that are starting to establish themselves I think that the gameplay for those that like that is been going has been going very well I think that most of the players are recognizable at this point we will talk about one that isn't as of yet and I feel like that there are very interesting Dynamics on every single tribe and that leads to something that's going to happen later in the episode but how about yourself oh yeah I mean I think you know seconded on everything you just said but not only are the Dynamics on each tribe very interesting but like I can actually articulate and tell you right now what each one is like it's laid out very well and I think this is really benefiting from the 90minut format and also like I feel like you know I'm one of those guys and I'm sure you are too where after a season happens you like to read all the postseason stuff and you find out things are happening and things are more in even

2:54 More interesting than what you see I feel like this time around you don't need to hear anymore like I'm just thinking for example like 41 with the blue tribe you know they showed like a couple little things but for the most part we don't really see what's going on it seems like they didn't go to travel Council and there wasn't a lot going on you find out later oh no actually oh there was all of this stuff happening this time around I'm like what could possibly what could we possibly be missing I feel like every two seconds there's a new thing with every character contributing to it and I will say the first sticks up to me is the anuka Sam Dynamic which they really nailed home with like they every time they went back to their tribe it's like okay who's gonna break first between these two and I honestly thought that when Sam was chopping the limb or what whatever it was yeah and they changed the music and Anica is staring at him and you know they go they there's like that awkward high five even though she's high-fiving everybody else it's theirs is and they can't it's not an editing trick because it's very clear that there was an awkward high five between the two of them and you know so we have that and we have these things in the other two other two tribes we're going to get to but like

4:14 I feel like with this episode they basically Telegraph who's probably going to go on the retreat and I didn't feel and I feel like yeah that is those are the three people that should go based off of what y'all have been showing us this episode because they have been either the primary antagonist or Pro protagonist on their respective tribes yeah I think you know we start off the episode with the blue tribe coming back from Tribal Council and Kyle left out of the vote and Sue is not happy about her name getting written down and she's like I'm done with this guy you know whatever any chance there was before of working with this guy it's over and you know it's like yes like we want people like this who are just like so petty so like stubborn and I was just like and it's funny because it couldn't have happened to like a nicer guy like he just he just got caught with the wrong numbers and you just feel bad but the reason why I love that this season is and I feel like a couple years ago you'd never catch me saying this but this season it's personal conflicts that are driving

5:35 Yes the votes and the relationships like TK we just saw I mean obviously you know Gabe Caroline Sue those two are three are together for strategic and social reasons but Tiana flips on him specifically because I can't stand this guy yeah I you know he just he drives me nuts and we're seeing that exact thing play out on every single tribe and I love that going back to the Sue thing Ed got Abby Maria Vibes when Kyle was trying to talk to her and I'm like oh man if Kyle votes for her again then sue can pull the oh you voted for me twice you wrote my name down twice you wrote my name down twice because even when they're sitting on the beach and Kyle's telling them hey he thinks y'all are his goats like what do we want to do about this and Sue is just like I can't trust anything he says because he wrote he wrote my name down this step and the other I'm like all right to she's like I just good vibes Good Vibes right now okay yeah that's the reason I thought I was gonna wake up and there was not gonna be any strategy I like oh okay yeah I'm sure that's how it's going to work and the other two are just kind of sitting down and being quiet and just letting them have it we see last episode when Gabe literally explicitly lays out in his confessional I want to bring Caroline and Sue to the end with me and I will beat them and he says the

6:55 Exact same thing to Kyle and it I'm like getting Russell H Vibes like he's just you know and Kyle's like obviously it's for selfish reasons he's trying to you know Salvage his position on this tribe but like also you know didn't have to tell you that Sue I mean he could just go with Gabe and do whatever you know Gabe was want to vote out to Yan he could just go with that so it's we're seeing some questionable gameplay right after seeing some promising gameplay from Sue being able to pull in Tiana Dynamics are interesting on that tribe I think it's like I was saying it's mirroring a lot of things on the other tribes where it's personal conflict and maybe a showman as the other yeah I know that's jumping the gun a little bit but like both the fact that they committed a basically half a segment showing these two saying there is no there is no romance hey I've got a fiance back home hey if you're watching this there's like don't worry we're all good here I'm not with this person you know I think once again I know that was teas at the beginning of the season and I wonder if that is now I wonder if that's what

8:16 Jeff was alluding to in the preseason press if not gotta be right yeah like if it's not I'm very curious because looking at all these tribe Dynamics I don't really get the vibe of anyone really playing the flirt card or them even teasing that there might be something going on with anyone going back to the Russell Hance comparison Emily made that same comparison last week and I kind of rolled my eyes but like I understood where she was coming from I think that this week I feel I think I'm on the same page as y'all now like as both of y'all have said oh yeah it's giving Hansen Vibes except for I still like gab so but the fact that he the fact that he has I won't say call them delusions because we don't know how this all turns out but the fact that he has these delusions that yeah I'll beat them immediately it's it's got no chance it's like okay man it's day six and seven so yeah who's to say what's gonna happen Asia was in a really good spot and then she wasn't but we'll get to that one and then okay so what that's the beef there the beef on R is the fact that Rome is Rome is slowly

9:36 Turning into I want to say a villain like a fun villain he's turning into a fun person where it's stting to a very what's the polarizing fun character there's a Seasons here and there where like there's a character that you know everyone loves or everyone hates and I feel like Rome is slowly becoming that person I feel like between him and Andy right now as far as because I know there the Andy haters are all over the place and that's still like we'll get to Andy but Rome what are your thoughts on Rome this episode Rome I mean like he's a talker he's a talker and I think he likes to hear the sound of his own voice for sure he's a commentator a Esports commentator I believe which is which is a very interesting career bad very interesting I've always said that Survivor has needed an orts commentator I mean hasn't everybody else been saying that too so he likes not only does he like to hear himself talk he likes to hear him himself talk about himself and how well he does certain things and how you know he wants to accomplish this like he's saying like yeah I want to

12:16 The and he said godson like yep that's a that's a good name Rome I think that right now like I'm not rooting for Rome or anything but like he's kind of in the same boat that Q was last season at this point in the season where it's like okay well there's no way Q is going to make it far because he's talking down to Banu and saying that he's his Phillip and he's Boston Rob and that was round two or three where he was having that conversation with them and Rome is kind of doing the same thing where he's antagonizing people and you know whether he under whether he knows he's doing oh well he is doing it on purpose when it comes to Asia you know whether he knows that's how he's being perceived you know we'll see as the game continues but I do think that he's made for very fun television like you said every tribe has this these one or two players and these one or two rivalries that you don't roll your eyes or like check your phone when they jump to a different tribe because there's something going on in every single one for sure and I think oh there was something else I was going to ask about Rome oh yeah maybe I'm maybe that's jumping the gun we'll get to that later but so let's jump

13:37 To Let's see we talked about blue we talked about red we talked about should we talk about the challenge is there anything notable that happen there well no not the challenge yet we want to get to the U The Retreat the yeah so I was kind of hoping I was with Asia I was kind of hoping that it wouldn't reram that goes because I knew that if he went of the three people that go he was most likely to get something because that's yeah it has to go get something because it can't be you know it can't be anyone else because Rome is the one that of everybody else everyone that was there you know he's the one that's been portrayed as the biggest antagonist of the three so of course the biggest antagonist of the three you know you can't give it to Kyle because Kyle's on the bottom anyway so like if he loses his vote that adds to the Underdog Story you can't have anuka get it because anuka and we want anuka and Sam like this you give it to Rome who at least is being portrayed as annoying the out of everybody on his tribe let him win or let him win and see how it goes and all of them are telling kind of the same story kind of telling the truth and who

14:57 Was the one that lied was oh anuka straight up lives and says oh yeah I got I chose to save my vote or whatever and then immedately like oh no I'm kind of live yet what do you think of the retreat I thought that you know I mean the retreat itself kind of boring you know just picking a thing out of a bag but yeah I don't know I want to know your thoughts about do you like that they literally force them to draw at least once I mean they didn't choose to go in the retreat I mean I don't know why they should immediately have a 33% chance of just straight up losing their vote in the next tribal especially when they're down to either five or six players on a tribe I mean losing your vote is like really bad yeah I and this is the nitpick that I was talking about at the beginning this is I hate that they we still we're at 47 and we're still doing these things where people can lose their votes off of nothing that's in their power they're losing their votes not because you know they've chosen to sit out of a Challenger or whatever the case is it's because you just randomly pulled something that said hey I and yeah they got rid of do or die and I thought we were in we were through with this

16:17 Kind of thing I know it's not the exact same thing but you're still losing a vote so I thought you know that was kind of and it said it was fairly boring and I do agree I thought this would a perfect time to do a swap because they're all and the way looking at the time stamp and seeing how much was left in the episode I'm like oh my gosh they're going to swap because they're spreading all of this stuff I'm like yes this would be perfect because now everyone knows or at least has a perception what all these tribe Dynamics are you're at what 16 or 15 people at this point 16 yeah at this point it'd be a perfect time to just kind of mix it up they didn't and like and that's fine but I thought that they were like oh yeah we're swapping here and we don't get that and we get two of the three people losing their votes and that you know depending on when we merge depending on what happens next in the game do I think that Kyle is gonna go home next on that tribe probably not do I think that anuka is gonna go home next on her tribe yeah maybe but I don't I don't think it should be I don't think that this losing of the vote should be a Twist in the game and that's just my personal opinion I know I

17:37 I like a lot of a lot of twists that they've introduced throughout the years I don't like an abundance of twists in one game but I also don't like when you can just lose your vote just on a whim basically yeah and again I think it pairs really badly with the starting with six three tribes of six you know it's just way too important to have your vote and I'm sure that's why they did it because they want it to be important but I yeah I just don't get the obsession with wanting kind of it seems like people to lose their vote you know I don't find it that interesting you know I think it just kind of makes it more just more wrenches in the gears or whatever and could take it or leave it and honestly the best thing about these Retreats are when people spread I mean we got the Banu thing last year where he's just straight up like this is everyone this is who's running things and Kenzie is gonna be the winner behold yeah and so this time you know whether they were telling the truth or not everyone is sharing things and they're sharing just enough that people can trust that the other two can trust them you know that's where we

18:57 Get this fax showmance rumor this is where we get Rome throwing two people under the bus from his tribe so that if there is a swap or something those two are looked at as the threats which is a very good play on Rome's end as long as those two don't make the merge which one of them is gone so what you know if Saul makes the merge then you know maybe some something can happen there but I think that all three of them play played it as well as they could as far as the interactions with the other two now how they did when they got back to Camp you know that take it or leave it but I do I am curious to see if they were to do if they do this again if the same narratives continue with you know oh yeah this person was telling the truth it is this or you know this person is clearly lying it's actually them that's running the tribe right yeah and I don't know how many I feel like they've been switching up recently like didn't they merge at or merge like the merory like at 14 like a couple seasons ago I don't know so I don't know how many more Journeys there will be but yeah you're right I didn't even think of that yeah they can kind of corroborate like hey this person

20:17 Told me this and this person told me this is this true you know and again that will you know kind of show like who's willing to say what and who's you know will that information lead to a relation a strategic relationship moving forward in the merge yeah I'm very eager to see that as well now when they get back to Camp who did the best job of telling their tribe what happened I think Kyle yeah I mean just told the truth I mean the truth yeah I mean obviously people think of survivor as like you got to lie here and lie there you got to you know have this you know intricate Web of Lies and that's the only way you can sometimes just tell people the truth just how it works there was no fluff in it I mean if he told the story exactly how it was portrayed on television and he really just sat down and said oh yeah the three of us were there we had a one and three chance of pulling something bad or whatever it was I pulled a bad one I don't have a vote there you go and he's saying that while he's on the bottom and he says something like I'm burned at next Tribal Council he says something along those lines it's like

21:37 Yeah you just straight up to say it like that because in that situation like I said I think that of the three Kyle is the least likely to go home with their next tribal yes Rome didn't go home today so like that and I still think that anuka has a better chance at going home whenever they go again than Kyle because I do feel like he can ingratiate himself with folks on the tribe especially if he just sticks to his guns and sticks saying hey this guy's clearly trying to play everyone let's do something about it before he Moon walks his way to the end to lose because if we want to make the Russell hands comparison then that's what's waiting for him at the end of the game so yeah Kyle It's gotta be Kyle yeah I agree I think that Rome not very good I think he definitely thinks he's a better liar than he is I think he says something like Mom I'm sorry I'm sure you're watching me thinking whoa how you're such a good liar I'm not proud of you anymore Rome nobody's buying it no that's where the godson comment eventually God Son yeah Gods son now and then ANUK you know I mean she straight

24:17 Main characters on that tribe so Saul is who Saul I didn't even know he was on the show until this episode that it wasn't Saul for me it was Genevie for me yeah where I just like oh wait what where did she come from she CGI Genevie because she was not there the first two episodes and all of a sudden she's even in the episode like during the strategizing I'm like oh okay yeah what is what does she have to say about this like I'm sure yeah but I'm glad that we got because Saul was one of those people that you know even though we didn't do pregame stuff this season Saul was another person that I had heard people talk about going into the show so I was very curious to see where and yes maybe he had a lower edit now because his edit is going to pick up as the season continues and this could be his villain or hero Arc that starts in this episode and he catches a vote I think teeny throw thr him a vote in that one in this one I do think that at least based off of what we saw in the trailer for next week and we talked about this before we went live

28:19 There was a moment and I know that they would never even put this on the show if it actually happened but there was a moment where I thought that they were just going to come to blows because it was like the tension was even though the music was I the tension was just like man they're they really just want to fight each other and I think that was the scene where they talk about the wall oh Andy's talking about Survivor wall and it was like I feel like some people have hit the wall pretty hard you know six seven days in so I don't want anuka or Sam to go anytime soon but I do feel like one of them's going I think Andy like we said two weeks ago I think Andy's fine if all he's do is make it through one more episode and he was he's going to be fine and I think that he's there's no way that Andy's going home I think everyone clip that so that when he goes home next week yeah seriously no I think I agree with you I think that you know even yeah you think about it like strategically but even just like kind of just my vibe I just feel like Andy's going to go far in this game and I feel like on yeah just kind of like I kind of hope like Rachel goes home on that tribe just because you know nothing against her but just like my winter pick so like cool your jets there I

29:39 I mean yeah that's why I wanted to go home because I just don't want he no but it's mainly because you know every other person is like really like part of a continuing storyline Sam vers anuka Sam and Sierra people think they're dating which yeah weird but kind of fun funny I don't know Andy obviously I think it'd be very interesting to see like can blow out blow up in episode one to winner Arc that's cool you know yeah I think there's so much potential in this season like especially when they merge like I'm just like trying to see where it all fits in I feel like Andy's probably going to sell out his tribe because he's just done with them what's Rome gonna do knows ran Sue Rome and Sue that'd be great yeah Rome Sue and Andy just and Gabe and Gabe all these people on the same Beach I'm just like oh wow yeah what's gonna happen I think it's and I'm very curious to see how the haters of the new era are perceiving this season and I'm probably not going to learn about it until after the season over because I don't want any negativity

30:59 While I'm watching but I'm curious to see how they how they're perceiving this because I feel like this has been very good I know people in the community that think that 46 is the worst season in the history of the show which is just insane but you know there are folks like that and if they thought that 46 was the worst season in the history of the show then I fear for what they think for 47 even though I feel like 47 has so far like I said it's only three for three if they end up batting three for 14 not the best but I think we're also a great start I think that you know what I'm just gonna say I think if you just rate on these three episodes if you keep that going even if it dips down a little bit I think this is the best season of the new era I mean yeah I mean if you just like if you were to give like a 10 out of 10 score to each of these episodes and do that for every other season as well I think the it all averages out where this one's probably the best so far and I feel like the biggest weakness of the new era seasons is the Prem merge at least for me and I think for a lot of it is yeah I mean it doesn't

32:19 Get interesting until you know and that's definitely not the case so far I mean we're already booking the merge because there's so many Dynamics we want to see yeah and if all the tribes go into the fake merge whatever fairly even are these rivalries are they all going to throw each other under the bus are they gonna like be strange bed fellows and they're like okay are they going to be what was it 42 was it 40 42 they a cool kids Alliance versus everybody else Alliance and then that kind of didn't work out there's a lot of different ways that this merge can go and I don't think so let's say we do fake merge at 12 and we're at six we're at 15 now I don't think there's three people in okay there might be one I don't think there are three people in the game that if they left I'd be like oh okay well then you know that the merge is not going to be anything now that they're gone if that makes sense I think that everyone would add a fun Dynamic to the merge and if we lose fun characters along the way it's all good because we still get everybody

35:00 A new error season with no Idols advantages or penalties that would be unexpected probably I don't think that they would ever do that I for years people have been like and I do agree with you I would love to see a season like that again that's why I watch old Seasons because I don't see them ever doing because Survivor has now trained us for the last 27 plus Seasons of Idols advantages you know you need all of this to make big moves you need all these things and you just kind of I feel like they've programmed a lot of people into thinking that's what the show needs and that's what the players need to navigate the game when you have 10 seasons where they didn't have any of that you know they had you know they had Mix-Ups they had they had swaps and that was really as big as the as the twists went how they did hit the swamps were as big as the twists went and then all of a sudden you know and I don't I don't hate Idols I don't hate you know I don't hate steela votes I know I said losing your vote but like Stila vote is different from just losing your vote I don't hate a lot of these things I think that where the problem is now is because they introduced so many

36:22 Things since season 11 when the when the Idol's introduced that they can't go back they have to keep moving forward that's why when we came back from covid it's like oh yeah now we've got shot in the dark and now we've got do or die and now we've got you know the sweater Savvy we've got knowledge's Power we they can get rid of some of them but they're never going to get rid of everything because fans are expecting it yeah and For Better or Worse that's I don't see them ever going doing a back to the basics type thing I agree with you that I would love to see but I don't think they would ever do that yeah I agree I think that a lot of fans maybe not like the super fans like all of us but a lot of you know people who just flipping through the channels and see the survivors on they are probably gonna be like oh where are the idols oh there's no Idols oh that's weird okay that kind of makes it less interesting like I don't think that there's a large cohort of people that agree with us I think it's kind of our own little circle that you know want to see that and yeah and also like you said it's never gonna happen it's unless they completely

39:02 That was not oh okay Jake okay you're back you're back so I was saying that was not her in yeah and I was like people are gonna say oh survivor's fake see they keep they put in another contestant to refilm like I remember have you gone down the rabbit hole of people who are completely adamant that this show was fake I don't go down the rabbit hole I know those people pop up in like comments on YouTube videos I watch but I've never like taken the Deep dive because I don't like Doom scrolling and I feel like anyone on Survivor to like I would just get overly it's like when people on lost I get overly pissed off and I just I'm with you myself in the internet so like yeah if I like I can't I can't do it so but what now you've opened the can of worms what do they like what are they saying they like they you the fact that like they like sometimes re-shoot certain scenes that like had already happened like for example I think the most Infamous one is when boss and Rob faint in Heroes versus Villains it's been the best of me I mean come on no nobody was fooled by that was not when it actually happen Jerry
