Episode summary
Chris and Andre cover the Survivor 50 merge episode, the Blood Moon twist, over Easter weekend. They call it a tribe swap disguised as a merge and say the rock draw put too much luck in a five-person tribe. Genevieve and Colby are the players they feel were robbed, and they argue that Jeff Probst is pushing twists too far. They read the Aubry and Genevieve edit, praise Ozzy’s run through Exile and his alliance with Cirie and Rizo, and debate whether Cirie was right to save Coach by playing Dee. Colby’s goodbye gets an emotional reaction. They like Chrissy’s move to flip Jonathan and take out Kamilla, and they expect Dee and Jonathan to clash. The hosts also go through who could replace Jeff as host one day, Genevieve’s exit interview comments, whether Christian bent the challenge rules, and the fantasy draft scores, with Chris ahead on 103 points.

0:00 [music] [music] [music] >> Welcome back to the Nullified Take channel, where we've got the TNT takes for you on Survivor 50, episode six.
1:00 It's merge episode time, and we're coming to you over this lovely Easter weekend here in Australia. I hope wherever you are, you've had a great Easter with your family and friends. Andre, I hope you've had a great Easter. This is the first time we're getting a proper opportunity to catch up as well. Yeah, it's been good Easter break. A little bit cold, but I'm full of chocolate. It's been fantastic. >> amazing. Good to good to take some time off. It's always it's always good when you have a reason to get back into the gym after an Easter weekend, right? It means that you've enjoyed yourself. You've probably indulged far too much. You know, we don't have Applebee's over here, Andre. So, you know, we have to indulge in chocolate. Yeah, just as much as piles and piles of chocolate and as much good food as you possibly can. Yeah. Yeah, but after Jeff's full endorsement of Applebee's this episode, where he took 5 minutes to explain the menu of Applebee's, how much did you wish that we did have Applebee's over in Australia?
1:58 Were you feeling like we're missing out and not having it? Yeah, I'm wondering what the big deal is about. Is it really that good? Or is it just What is it? What's the biggest Have you ever had it? I've never had it. I've been to America traveled in America and I've lived in America. I've never had Applebee's, but I think America's such a big place that there's so much food that you can choose from. Like Applebee's just never stood out to me, to be honest. But let's say hello to our friends of the channel. We've got Chris back in here saying, "Big congratulations to me." Thank you, Chris. I appreciate you. You've obviously been there since day nearly day one on the channel. So, for those people who don't know, I got engaged over the weekend, which was a great moment. A great moment. Thank you so much, Andre. Thank you. Thank you. So, Blood Money, thank you so much. Thank you so much.
2:49 So, there was a good reason why we couldn't do the podcast in our normal time slot this week. It was for a higher purpose, basically. Also sad to hear about Conrad passing and the basically Blood Money here saying that the Australian Challenge alumni you know, pay tribute to him. So, rest in peace, Conrad. And obviously to friends and family of Conrad, obviously through this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers go with you. Georgette is saying, "Hello, everyone." Dolores is here as well. Chris and Andre in the house. Yes, we are. And I love it because we didn't even talk about it, but we are synced. We both have caps on today. So, you know, we're already in sync and the and the podcast isn't even started, Andre. >> [laughter] >> Chris is saying, "You are not missing out. Applebee's is legit disgusting." Okay, well, Chris, you're not selling it to me >> [laughter] >> at all.
3:43 Thank you so much, Will. Thank you, Drew. Thank you so much. Drew, it didn't work out this week with the recap for you to come on with the merge, but from now onwards, Andre and I would love to have you on for one of the recaps with us to talk about Survivor. So, we'll make it happen, especially the those people who follow both Drew's channel and the Nullified Take channel. I know you guys love seeing it when we collab. So, hopefully at some point we can also get Reality Realm Nest on. I know she does her own content, but definitely Drew will make it happen. We'll make it happen. Georgette, thank you so much. Thank you, Dolores. Really appreciate you. yeah, Drew will be on a live. Me and Drew have spoken about it. So, we'll get him in with Andre as well. so, what an episode. What an episode. Merge episode, Andre. What did you think of this episode? Was it a merge? Was it not a merge? What's the verdict on it?
4:34 It was mergatory, right? Like it was the same stuff that we've been getting in the new era, just slightly worse, I would say. Too much I mean, it's obviously a controversial episode. So, I think I have two takes. The first take is that like any Survivor is good Survivor, let's be honest. Even if there was it was entertaining at the very least. Well, maybe not so much in some instances, but I'll take it. But I mean, it could have been done better, I feel. Like there could have been way better ways of having a blood moon or there would have been better ways of eliminating people quickly like eliminating somebody when Kyle was evacuated or maybe just doing two or maybe having a back-to-back two tribal councils, something like that. but I think it's worthy to discuss because it was so different. It was new. It was slightly different. It was terrible luck for some people, terri- great luck for other people.
5:27 Maybe it's a swayed a little bit into too much luck. But yeah, we can discuss that, I guess. Yeah. The funniest thing for me in this whole episode was every time somebody told Jeff that it was the luck of the draw, the rock draw, he would act like he was so surprised. Like, "What? Really? Is it really that simple that based on the color of your rock, you could be going home?" Yes, Jeff. In a five-person tribe, it can be that simple. In a five-person tribe, like we've been saying it for so long, Andre, or I have at least. Sometimes I feel like maybe I'm not speaking for all of the fans, but having these small tribes of five or six people, there is no room to move in. And if there's pre-existing relationships like you get in returnee seasons like this, and you get split into three groups of five, there is no room to move. There was We'll talk about it in depth, but I felt Genevieve had no room to move in the in the swap that she landed on.
6:24 And Colby, also a victim of new era. A victim of getting on the boat, losing his vote, can't even play his shot in the dark to save himself. Like he was a sitting duck. And even in that moment, Jeff was so shocked and so surprised by Colby saying, "I'm basically a sitting duck. I'm going home." And it's like is Jeff really in my mind that delusional? Or is he hyping it up for the cameras, Andre? That's what I want to know. I think he's getting a little senile, let's be honest. I he's never been the best game maker. He's been a great host. He's haven't been the best game maker. Just keep him away from the game. Like get a real proper game designer in. Get somebody that knows that there should be a balance between You need a little bit of luck. I think 20 to 40% of it should be luck orientated, where you can sort of see the best players sort of, you know, rise above the luck.
7:15 But if you're someone like Colby, who through no fault of his own, really. I guess he could have tried to win that challenge with Savannah, but it was just so random. Or know enough not to get onto the boat or something like that. But you're never going to know what the sliding door moment is. And then especially Genevieve, who was playing actually really well and just had that one sort of that 0.01% iteration, where she specifically got into a situation where she could not have gotten out of. And the only way out of it was another game mechanic that he introduced, which was shot in the dark, which I'm a I'm a fan. I like the shot in the dark. If there wasn't any shot in the dark, there would have been no suspense in that tribal council. Exactly. So, yeah, it's just it just add a little bit of add a little bit of luck, but not that much luck. It There was like 99% luck. It was just too much. And you got like both of them did get really screwed.
8:05 I don't think Kamilla got screwed necessarily. I think that maybe she was a little bit screwed, but not as much as the other two. And especially not as I mean, my hot take I don't know if it's a hot take, but I think Genevieve the most screwed person in Survivor history. Apart from maybe Malcolm's number two, I would say. But yeah, she's really royally screwed there. Well, what about Cirie with advantage given and getting >> [sighs] >> voted out by the vote against her. Malcolm was more screwed. I don't know, actually. Yeah, that's a good one. But I mean, the they all Yeah, they all have something in common, where it's just overreach on the term I'm actually now that I think about it, maybe Malcolm wasn't as screwed as necessarily. But yeah, it's just it's just too much overreach. You don't need them. Just let them play. Yeah. Yeah, it's interesting and we will go back to the comments cuz I can see some good comments coming through.
8:57 But it's interesting in one of these tribal councils. I know we're jumping all over the place. Jonathan said that sometimes it feels like less of a celebration, season 50, than chaos. Like it feels more like chaos compared to a celebration. And I think it's very interesting cuz you can see the disconnect with Jeff at that moment when he says, "Well, you say chaos, I say that is a celebration." Right? So, he thinks that chaos and rattling the cage, the more you rattle it, the more sporadic you make the game without people being able to think or plan ahead in a strategic way is what makes the show great in his mind. And I think that's where the disconnect is. To your point, it's been like this for a while. Jeff has taken this route for a long time. And I just want to say also to people listening to this podcast who might be thinking we're completely down on season 50. Like I am still really loving season 50. I'm loving seeing the characters that are out there.
9:48 It just saddens me when you get to see some of these great players leave the game in such a way where it's so out of their control. Like today it was Colby and Genevieve, tomorrow it could be Cirie, tomorrow it could be Ric Devens or a Christian Hubicki who at this stage has had luck on their side, but you know, very easily things could shift from week to week. Like, I mean, I came on the podcast last week, Andre, and said that I think Colby could win this thing. So, I literally said I think he's in my top three, and then the next very next vote he's voted out. It shows you how chaotic the season has been. Yeah. Well, it's been interesting editing cuz I think you were reading into Colby's edit and saying, "Okay, he's he's been playing a really great game, and he Well, he didn't really play that much, but he's set up to win, right? He has kind of like the hallmarks of a winner edit." When reality his read it was more of like a redemption edit, right?
10:40 We've got someone like Chrissy, and I think we were we were reversed where it was like Chrissy's edit was the redemption edit. And we didn't think Chrissy could win, but I think now I'm probably more in the camp that tip Chrissy can win. And then it's just like we'll kind of like mix. It's like you can kind of take those edits both ways where it's like is it a redemption edit or is it like a winner's edit? I'm not sure. Well, when you're talking about the edit, the edit that confused me the most up until this point was the Aubry versus Genevieve edit because the way I was reading the edit throughout the pre-merge section of the show going into the merge was that you needed to like Genevieve not Aubry. Like, Aubry wasn't coming across as very likable throughout this whole thing. And even in this Tribal Council where they went to Tribal Council and she said, "Well, you say it's luck, Genevieve, but it's all about your personal relationships and your connections and your ability to maneuver and be smooth in those situations where you can still work with someone and stay in the game." And I thought to myself, it came across to me.
11:34 And I don't know Aubry, she's probably a lovely person. I'm talking about the edit. I'm talking about how she came across on my TV screen. It came across as self-righteous because if she was in the original tribe, she would have said the same thing. It was the luck of the draw for me to end up with Colby, Stephanie, Q, all these people who are voting against me. And you know, I could not move she would have in that case probably, to be honest, like if you if you think about that first episode, she was the one who was shutting Genevieve out. Genevieve wanted to work with her. That's what we saw in any case on the edit. So, I just think it was an unfair comment that she made to Genevieve in that moment where it's like, "Oh, it's all about your personal connections. You can never shut people out." But she did. She did exactly that in the original tribe that she was in. Could she still be the villain of the season where she's the final hurdle for the eventual winner to go over?
12:25 So, like a Christian or a Devons or someone like that. Probably Christian, to be honest. But is she the final person that Christian needs to beat? So, therefore they probably reverse engineered to say, "Hey, let like Aubry has a thing with Genevieve Aubry does win over Genevieve, but let's just paint her as a bit of a villain early on. So, therefore when Christian beats her or Christian gets around in fire making, then people aren't as Am I reading too in too much into that or is I think you are. I think you are. And I think that I think I think I'm giving them too much credit. >> [laughter] >> But well, to be honest with you, I think what you're doing is what I would normally do when I read the edit cuz I would think there's a method to the madness when they do these edits. But I'm off the camp now that they have lost their way a little bit in editing like a hero's edit or a villain's edit cuz they don't even like everybody's heroes in Jeff's mind at this stage in any case.
13:18 He doesn't want villains on the show. So, I don't know if we can read into the edit like we did 10, 15 seasons ago in that way. And I actually think after this episode with Genevieve, I'm starting to think there's a chance that Aubry could win this season. Like I'm like maybe in their mind this is us getting behind her. She's got a bit of an underdog story. I think she's the most interesting player for me going into the next round because she's got connections with so many different people. She is a free agent to a lot of degree because you've got Christian, you've got Ric Devens, but she knows she's been given a boomerang idol descent for them to vote her out of the game. >> They made they went out of their way to edit Jonathan to specifically make a to make an alliance with Aubry, which was like that came out of left field. I don't know I in the moment I thought, "Oh, this is them setting up Jonathan." But then maybe in retrospect it's them setting up Aubry.
14:09 And let's not forget about Aubry's connection with Coach. And that connection as well. So, she's got a lot of connections coming into the next round where she's almost in a power position at this stage. So, I think she's got a chance to win the show, but it's been a strange edit for her. Let's read a couple of comments. I just want to see what people are saying here. Chris is saying this was not a merge. I totally agree with it. it was just the tribe swap disguised as a merge. I agree. and then it was a practice merge. Genevieve was robbed. Totally agree with that as well. Chris is saying, "I wonder if Kyle was DQ'd if there would be three groups of six at the merge and the Exile Island excursion for Ozzy and Rizo was only added to even out the numbers." Normally they say that these things get planned way in advance when they do it. But how difficult is it, Andre, to write up an extra Exile Island twist in there and say, "Hey, you just got to go hang out in a camp." Sorry, at a different camp on a different beach.
15:04 Like, it's not like they're having to set up challenges or anything. So, it's pretty easy to add into the game. >> They already had it. Yeah, they already had Exile Island. I didn't mind that part of the twist, to be honest. I thought that kind of made a lot of sense where at least there was agency there. And I think this is what we've been touting. You It's fine to have a little bit of luck if there's a little bit of agency, right? Survivor's always been about that where people choose to go to rocks. People choose to go to luck. Where people like Ozzy chose to find whatever it was. He didn't know what it was, but then he was able to build that bond with Rizo because he had that agency. So, that part of it I didn't mind. But I guess to the original question, I think that's probably what they did. They probably just like, "Look, we have 17 people. Let's do Then again, it's like Blood Moon specifically requires a three a five, right?
15:56 You need to have it divisible by three. So, maybe it probably would have been one person going to Exile Island and then just add an extra person there, which I didn't mind. a Blood Moon with what if we're if we're adding an extra person, that would have been 16 18, right? And you take off one person. That still wouldn't have worked, I guess, though, because that's not divisible by three. So, maybe the original plan was to have Yeah, but I mean, it still doesn't work, right? Because they need to get rid of more people if there's if Kyle left, then they need to get rid of didn't leave, they need to get off even more people. So, I don't know if that really if that holds true there. Unless they were playing a two-two and then maybe have another sort of like double elimination next episode or something. Maybe. I think it's a high likelihood you get another double elimination like two groups of seven in the next round.
16:46 Like, I don't I think they're just going to continue to knock out as many players as they can in the early stages of the merge, and then it'll slow down as soon as they get to a number that is closer to what we would normally see at this stage in a normal Survivor game. But I know we're moving very slow with the comments, and I'm sorry about that, guys, but I can't move on from Redemption Island. Like, we need to talk about it since Chris brought it up. Like, how funny was it seeing Ozzy rush around to find this I like all this clue that will ultimately send him to Redemption Island. As he starts opening it, he's like, "I hope I'm not going to Redemption Island." And then he reads it, and it's him going to Redemption Island. Such a golden TV moment. And you know, I'm quite high on Ozzy after this. Like, Ozzy, I'm like it's been a yo-yo for me with him, but I'm starting to see a way for Ozzy to get to the end of this game. And I'm starting to see a way for him to potentially win this game because I don't think Cirie is getting there.
17:42 Like, I love Cirie even this week again, she's so good. And if she gets there, she wins, hands out. Like, she could win as well. Like, I think she's got higher winner equity than Ozzy at this stage. But if they clip Cirie, who's a great shield for Ozzy strategically at this stage in the game, and Ozzy gets into a final situation next to like a Joe and a Rizo, for instance, like Ozzy could win this show. Like, and he's like, we've been so high on Christian being like one of the two top confessional people this season. Like, he's narrating the season. We see the season through his strategic mind. But Ozzy has been as consistent as Christian on our TV screens at this stage. Like, are we sleeping on Ozzy to potentially go out and win this game? Like, I mean, this episode really set him up with Rizo and the sharing of the information of who's got what idols and the you know, the fact that basically Cirie's saying, "I'm in a poly relationship with both Rizo and Ozzy." Like, it's he's in a good spot.
18:42 That alliance is in a good spot. Yeah, I think so. I mean, I think we originally we thought it's Ozzy we get they're going to he's going to get a good edit if he gives up brings something to the table anyway. But he seems to be pretty set up pretty well, right? Like we've also seen him in the edit be like, "Oh, I'm playing as a different person. I'm doing something different." Instead of like completely destroying Cochran, he goes to Christian says, "Hey, look, you're in my alliance now. I'll give you my secret." So, he's playing very differently than he did in say South Pacific. you know, the physical factor is there. Kind of like the abrasive Ozzy is still there, but then there's actually that extra layer to him. Sort of the older Ozzy, the more mature Ozzy. And I think that is a recipe of this could be a winner's story, right?
19:32 Where it's like, "Finally after what It's kind of like kind of like the Boston Rob. Finally, I'm no longer this immature kid. I'm the man. I'm the I'm the boss of the season, and I'm going to play it the way that I always wanted to play it, right?" So, I could see it. Definitely. And Chris bringing up a comment here saying, "This is why I do not believe Jeff when he says audiences voted for mega advantages. We see how busted they can be at times. But I think the thing that they did here Chris was and again, I was kind of checked out of Survivor for a year prior to coming back, right? So I didn't really follow what the voting categories were or how they phrased the questions in season 48 or 49 for people to vote on. But I'm assuming Andre and you can correct me if I'm wrong here. Jeff loving the control of the game like he would have made these questions as vague as possible and probably as macro level as possible so he could be creative within those questions, right?
20:28 So saying does audiences love great or big twists? Obviously we love twists. We don't want a Borneo season to play out because that would be boring in 2026. Like you know, Australian Survivor is a great example and sometimes we jump back to it where they do bring great twists into the show and they do keep the show exciting without over engineering the season. And I think that's where Jeff goes that little bit further like we spoke about earlier and he just over reaches but I think the questions would have been vague surely Andre and that's where Jeff gets to play. Yeah, I think that I mean was there any integrity in these elections anyway? Is there like a is there a commission here to make I mean I'm sure there might be some broadcasting standards there but I don't really think that like who's going to say no I don't want twists, right? It's probably like I think that's what it was, right? It's like how big a twist do you want? They say oh yeah big that's fine.
21:20 Plus we have to remember that there's probably going to be like a lot of like casuals that are voting as well and they're like of course casuals love twists. So I mean these this voting isn't meant for us really. It's in the hand of the fans. It's in the hands of the casuals. Let's be honest. I mean >> [laughter] >> there's no way there's no way that these votings were really even remotely fair. Like let's go back to second chances and vote back in like Shane and Terry and stuff like that's what we want. Yeah. Yeah. Angel Cake here says that rumor has it Colby was going to get medically DQ'd for his foot but asked to go through with the tribal council to get the closure on what will most certainly be his last appearance on Survivor. Yeah, I heard about that. I don't know if it was true. I mean Cirie was pretty confident that she's like I don't know about that. Like Colby would continue on in the game.
22:11 She obviously understands that the old school players are a different kind of breed. Like they don't quit unless they get pulled from the game by production. I didn't really follow too much of the I didn't have for very good reason this week. I didn't have much time to engage in listening to accident to be pressed and all those kind of things but Andre have you sort of been keeping up with what the rumor mill is out there? yeah, I heard that it wasn't I think he said he had a break standard it but I heard that it was actually like bacterial infection. that's what I heard. So which probably means that there was some sort of at least some sort of like open wound or something like that. can we talk about like how masterful Cirie was when he was saying I think to D are you a gambler? And like that was that was So good. >> That was amazing. That was like classic Cirie in action which essentially single-handedly probably saved Coach, right?
23:04 Like Coach basically owes her his life there. So we'll see what happens next episode but that was absolutely masterful because we know >> Was it a mistake? Was it was it masterful or was it a mistake by Cirie in this moment? If we know if we're results focused, right? And we know that Colby would have gotten pulled from the game. Was D's instinct correct in this moment to say we get two for the price of one if we vote out Coach and we really think that yeah. I don't think that Cirie wanted a two for one deal at that stage. I mean think about Cirie's game. Cirie does Cirie probably wants Coach in the game here like the way that Cirie plays is she would rather having big players in the game. Like look at her very first season, right? Where her whole game was to slaughter goats to get rid of people that cannot win cuz she wants to be the one to be taken to the end.
23:57 She wants a powerful player to take it to the end and she knows she might be able to beat that powerful player at the end. Right? it's never worked out but I this is the way that she played. So I think she wants Coach in the game if nothing more than to be a shield or maybe he owes her something. there's a reason she did that. I think that it was a mistake for D not to do it. I think it was a mistake for D to get played by Cirie as many great players in the past have. Right? That's not a that's not a that's not shame shameful, right? Everybody gets hoodwinked by Cirie. So I think it was a it was a mistake by D. It wasn't a mistake by Cirie. Cirie knows what she's doing. I think she wants Coach in the game. Yeah. No Cirie is an excellent player of this game. I mean who are we to question one of the greats? but I but I have to ask the questions obviously and you know, I will say that tribal council yeah, it had me chopping onions a little bit to be honest with you.
24:53 It was a it was a such a bittersweet moment seeing these three legends of the game that have paved the way for players like D to come out there and play the game, you know, to see them there in this very vulnerable position. One of them going home talking about their legacy. Colby getting emotional knowing that it was potentially Colby's last time. I know even Jeff said one last time Donaldson when he voted him out of the game. and probably the best version of Colby that we've seen, the mature version of Colby and such a full circle moment seeing D struggle with it. was kind of endearing as well cuz you know, D said she had to struggle with this fact that some of these players haven't played the game for 13 or 15 years and she's going to end their journey in the game. what was your thoughts on that tribal council? Did you like the fact that they went out of order with the tribal councils here so that we could have this moment at the end?
25:48 Yeah, well I did hear that from the rumor mill that they actually let the players decide who would like which tribal council would happen in what order? I guess they could have just edited wherever they wanted to if they really wanted to and just cut out the bit saying you're the last people at tribal council. But I think it's sort of serendipitous that it somehow went that this was the last tribal council. but I feel like any order would have been interesting where it could have been like a situation where Colby gets voted out first and it just starts with a massive gut punch and then it's just kind of like that paints the entire it's like that's a shocking moment, right? Like the red wedding. It's like the blood moon. Shocking moment. Colby gets stabbed. That would have been good TV anyway, right? I think this whole this is why we watch Survivor, right? Cuz we want to see these story lines play out and like that was you know, emotional for a reason and it was great TV.
26:45 It was very sad. It was very like hot like that this is going to happen in a season like this. Where they're just going to be like absolute bloodshed and every week we're going to be crying cuz you know, Colby got voted off. Cirie got voted off. Coach might go. Yeah. Exactly. And you know what I was saying to Julie, my partner when I was watching that cuz I was watching it for the second time on the plane coming home from Perth and cuz the first time I had to I had to like speed watch through it so I didn't feel confident that I that I would remember everything but I said to her this is the thing that makes Survivor beautiful is because you learn very early on that you're not going to have your favorite win every single season and I remember Australian Outback. Colby holds a special place in my heart because that was like the first season that I watched from the beginning to the end. I think I started watching Survivor at the merge episode for Borneo when I was a kid, right?
27:36 That's where I sort of got into it and then watched Australian Survivor and he was in my mind as this little kid you imagine like a 10-year-old, 11-year-old watching this game. I was like I want him to win. He's the good guy. He's the all-American hero type of thing and he lost, right? And I had to deal with that at such a young age that my favorites can't always win the game, right? And that's what makes it special when you do get these players that go out there that finally gets to the top of the mountain and they finally get it. So like if you were a Boston Rob fan, I'm sure watching Redemption Island would have been the top of Boston Rob fandom, right? Because they finally saw him got there and it made it so like it makes it worth watching, you know? Like this is like you said even if it's a terrible season, right? So seeing like I know a lot of people didn't like Coach's game in South Pacific but seeing him finally understand strategy or play it in a way where he can get to the end was it fun to see after he failed at Heroes versus Villains, right?
28:34 And couldn't get a real foothold in that game. So yeah, I love the moment. a very interesting question here by Angel Cake bits saying I wonder if Emily knew that he was potentially going to get pulled and that's why she wasn't emotional cuz there's a Emily had like a blank stare on her face but there's people crying all around her. You wouldn't be able to tell that she's got any emotions in that moment. Like she is such an interesting player. She's like the definition of I think a game bot when it comes to playing Survivor. But I know she's got emotions. Everybody's got it. She just hides it well. It's kind of like what's Sophie watching Jack and Jill? She's blank face. >> [laughter] >> It's so true. It's so true. the editors really played in Ozzy's face. Lol. Oh yeah, with the whole Redemption Island thing. by the way, blood moon is often seen as a good transformational.
29:26 Many people view it as cosmic reset button. Very interesting cuz there was a lot of people saying that this will reset Survivor in the way that it's played. Do you think the blood moon like do you believe that you know, Jeff is a great showman and he knows what to say to get people to tune in to watch the game. How is this changing the game of Survivor? Fire making change the game of Survivor at the at the end of the game. Shot in the Dark has changed the game of survivor. Will Blood Moon sort of fit in moving forward with both the Shot in the Dark and the firemaking, or was this just an over hype from Jeff's part at this stage? I think that it changes in two ways. The first way it changes production going forward knowing that they can do something like this. So, whether or not they do want to do something like that is to remains to be seen. But then there's also the side of this will make players actually play more conservatively.
30:18 Kind of like the Kumbaya, like I want to make sure that everybody's on my side, cuz I've seen this happen once before and they don't want to be in a Genevieve situation where you alienate one person or one person alienates you. And you kind of have to pretend to I mean, but I feel like even Genevieve tried to pretend to work with Aubry. She was having none of it, right? But it will make people really and it's not a good change, right? We don't want people to be playing conservatively. We want Tony to talk Alana and people, right? You want Tony to specifically targeting cats, right? So, it's kind of like it's not I don't think it's a good change. I don't think that you have you can't bring this randomness into the game without there actually being a meaningful change. Jeff needs to come out and say, "Guys, we knew this was a mistake. We're not going to do it again. So, feel free to play any way that you want, but we promise we're never going to do it again." You need to be explicit with these things. It's kind of like I think he I'll give him credit.
31:12 With Game Changers, he brought back he brought in the instant run-off with the rocks anytime that there was a tie, right? And they nearly got rid of it cuz he knew that was not that was not conducive to good TV. And if they see that this is not conducive to good TV, if 51 comes around everybody is playing like, "Oh, every we're all friends and I'm not going to alienate you." They're going to probably see that and be like, "No, this is this is not we're going to sort of roll this back and explicitly tell the players that we're not going to do something like this. Jeff can be stubborn at times and believes his right way when it comes to the game, but he has made changes in the past. Like for instance, with the Edge of Extinction that is now on the Edge of Extinction somewhere. It'll probably come back at some point for a season, but you know, it's great to know that he can make these changes and hopefully he will in the future as well. Will he ever says that the winner of this season might not play the best game, but they may have the most star power.
32:09 And in my mind that's a good thing. Like I want this the season to have a big star player to win it. Like I feel like season 50 deserves an Ozzy win or deserves a Shonee would still have a great game if she wins it. But you know, if you if you think about like a Coach could have a messy win still at this stage. Like you can't count Coach out yet, I don't think, because the thing is in the edit where he lies to Dee and he gets caught in his lie. Immediately afterwards we see Coach saying, "That was the old Coach. I need to keep that in check. I know I made a mistake. I'm not going to do that again. That's sloppy. Dee's a good player." Why are we seeing Coach realize the error there if he's not got longevity for this game? I feel like they would have just hidden that from us and Dee would have and Coach would have gotten voted out in the next round. I don't think Coach is going anywhere anytime soon. I think we could still see a sloppy win from him.
32:59 We could still see a sloppy win from a Ozzy for instance. And is it a bad thing, Andre? Well, I'm thinking about all of the all of the All Star seasons and what All Star seasons have the unique combination of the winner either not playing the best game or being a star, right? Like if you think early on it was like the Sandra and Ambers of the world and then recently we've got Tony with Sarah. They played the best game, let's be honest, on their seasons. So, it's kind of like is it possible to have a star win that didn't play a really good game in an All Star season? Maybe. even like even here like Australia versus the world, right? The best player did win. Like by far. So, it's kind of like that would I would like to see that. I would like to see someone Well, maybe I wouldn't, but you know, somebody playing a sloppy game. Like Coach is playing a terrible game but still winning cuz he's just he's Coach, right?
33:53 It's kind of like the legacy win. Or I just don't see like someone like Shonee who's a massive star playing a sloppy game. So, it's kind of like it's going to be hard to get that balance right, I think. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, so let's talk a little bit about the players that stood out this week and specifically going into the tribe who actually all the group I say tribe, but the group who won the reward, went to Applebee's, end up going back to camp. It's Jonathan, Tevin, Kamilla, Stephanie, and Chrissy, right? And that group. And Chrissy ultimately that moment of her going to both Tevin and Kamilla saying, "Hey, it's okay if you vote me out. I completely understand. Like I just want to be friends outside of this game." And [clears throat] we're seeing the softest side of Chrissy, the motherly Chrissy that we never got to see in Triple H where she was an absolute gangster, a head a strategic mastermind of that season, and so determined to win the season.
34:51 I thought, "Wow, Chrissy's changed. Like, you know, she's softened up a little bit and maybe she is willing to fall on the sword here and we just don't see the same fire that we did when she came out the first time." Just for her to go to the confessionals and say, "I don't think that's happening." How great was that moment, Andre? Were you first pumping? I know you're a Chrissy fan. To finally see the Chrissy that we know and love from Triple H making her return to the game and having some strategic chops here in this moment to turn the tables or turn the tide, you know, against both Tiffany and Kamilla in this moment. And what we what was your thoughts about that group? Because we haven't spoken about it. >> yeah, no that was that was I think that was the Chrissy of old. That was what we all wanted to see from her. I don't know why people are surprised that Chrissy wasn't out there. I think we saw that early on in her season that she was kind of like kind of out of it and then she sort of then she really becomes a powerhouse and that's a very similar time.
35:45 She just hasn't had the chance really to go to Tribal Council. And they flagged it up very early with Chrissy. They said that she wanted to play a ruthless cutthroat game. And why would you say that if she wasn't going to do that? So, I'm feel kind of vindicated that at least we saw a little bit of that from her and she wasn't just going to it wasn't just that redemption arc and she would fall on the sword and then she would kind of sorry to say, but end up like Colby, right? Where she didn't really get to do much and he just got unceremoniously I guess ceremoniously booted out of the game. so, very impressed by Chrissy. I want to see if that continues cuz we know that there's a connection with Coach. We know that there's a connection with Jonathan. we know that Jonathan's making moves as well. So, I'm very curious on what coalitions going to sort of form here and I really want to see Coach and Chrissy really truly play together cuz I don't think they have.
36:39 So, I think that I think she's like I've been saying this the whole season. I think she's, you know, a long-term player, maybe it's final five. And how it ends with that, not entirely sure, but huge fan of Chrissy. Yeah. Well, you know, the tide walker may be gone next episode and we might get the dragon slayer back by the next time on survivor preview that we saw. And We lost the we lost the What was the What was Colby's name? Like the I forgot it but Oak bound monk or something like that? Oak bound warrior? >> bound warrior, yeah. I'm sorry to say Coach, but the nicknames of the season you got to work on them. They need to be a little bit more catchy. Like Yeah. Yeah, it's I don't know. It's gone down. Just go back to What was it? Dungeons and Dragons? Just give the Dungeons and Dragons nicknames. It's a little bit more catchy. But King Arthur. Going back to Chrissy though, great episode from her.
37:31 Agree with Zudaman, one of the best moments of the season seeing her turn it around. And you know, talking to Jonathan. Like Jonathan, it's interesting seeing him play this season as a new school player with an old school heart. Like you know, he kind of like we knew it in his season when we watched it. I always said Jonathan doesn't fit in with this era. Similar to Q. I always said Q didn't fit in with this era when I watched it the first time around. And I think it's sort of playing out. Like Jonathan wants to play with people that are very solid. But I thought Chrissy's conversation with Jonathan, like not just saying, "Hey, we're cut from the same cloth. You know that if I've got your back, you've got my back. We're going deep in this thing. We're running with this." But not only that, she's also talking about, "Who do you think will vote for you in the end?" And it was such a great angle. As someone who sat at the final who didn't get the votes to win, she understands what it takes to get to the end of the game but not get the respect from the people who are on the jury.
38:26 And she used that angle with Jonathan very smartly here or cleverly in saying that, "You know, these girls are not going to vote for you. They might vote with you to get to the end, but they won't throw you a vote to win the game." And ultimately, when you've got one more opportunity to get rid of people before they hit the jury, this is the moment to take one of them out. I thought it was such a clever angle. We didn't even see Stephanie really have to turn on any of the heat from her side. She just kind of deferred to Chrissy to have that conversation with Jonathan and it sounded like they already established some sort of a connection pre the swap that happened in their original tribe. And also credit to Jonathan here, right? Because it was Chrissy's move. I gave Chrissy the points on the fantasy rankings as well for this week. But in some ways Jonathan is playing a very different game. Like he said, "I'm open to having conversations with people I wouldn't normally have conversations with.
39:16 I'm going to keep options open." Are you enjoying what you're seeing from Jonathan at this point in the game? Like do you think that this is an evolved Jonathan compared to that first game where he just had his group and he stayed loyal to them? I think I think this Jonathan has always been around. He just didn't have a chance to show it in 42. I think I always think I always saw that in Jonathan. but I'm just glad that he's able to actually play the way he wants to with different types of people. And I think Cirie said it best cuz right now there hasn't been up until now there hasn't been sort of a narrative like old school versus new school in the edit at the very least until this episode where I think Cirie said it best when he said when she said sorry that old school old school way of playing is you're you find your people and you're loyal to your people. Maybe the way I didn't know she used the word loyal but you get the idea whereas the new school way of playing is like you'll work with somebody in a round if it's convenient to you and then you come back and you just you backstab somebody and you try to go back to them and I think that was very prescient to what happened with Jonathan and Kamilla right?
40:21 Kamilla essentially stabbed Jonathan in the back last and last episode and then she wanted to come and play with him again very new school where Jonathan and Chrissy are like no that's not the way that it works for us and the players like us right? Chrissy and Jonathan are cut from the same cloth. Look at the way that they played the first season. Jonathan had his people, Chrissy had his people, he had Devens, he had Sorry it wasn't Devens it was Devon Pinto and he had the other guy what's his name? yeah Ryan. Ryan yeah. So I mean it's a very similar way of playing. So I think that now that there's a narrative around sort of what exactly new school means and what exactly old school means. Doesn't mean what season you're from it means with your play style and so we can start to categorize like well Jonathan and Chrissy played very similar and they might be playing more with Coach and then you've got Cirie is kind of like I think she's categorized herself as old school because she finds her people Rizo Ozzy maybe we'll have a maybe have a truce between Ozzy and Coach who never who knows but back to Jonathan I think he's a backstabber.
41:31 >> Yeah I could see Ozzy and Coach putting their things behind them at some stage especially if the numbers are not there but what you're saying a war between Jonathan and Dee is coming. Angel cake saying Dee is coming for Jonathan in the next episode. I think it'll be a bad move by Dee to do that. I think that she should take like this on the chin to a certain degree. Yeah she took out Yeah she took out she took out Charlie he took out Kamilla like they're even Stevens right now like you know you can't ride your high horse when you've just betrayed your alliance in the previous episode. There was a precedent set. She started the war Jonathan didn't start it you know so I feel like she needs to keep her options open she needs to go for players that are part of that old school faction cuz she's clearly not in it if she wants to go deep in this game and she also needs Jonathan.
42:23 I think when she said to Jonathan we need each other in this game she meant that. She needs a couple of shields around her people that like she is ultimately the biggest threat from the aspect that she's won the game before but she takes out Jonathan like who's next probably Dee like I don't think it's a good move for her at this point to go after him when he potentially is fluid and could still work with her in the game Andre. Yeah I think if you're out there you don't see Jonathan necessarily as a big strategic threat you just see him you just kind of lump him in with like the loyalty integrity crew even I don't even know if that if he's part of that but I think the perception is that this I don't necessarily think you'd see him as a strategic threat maybe like a like a physical threat. the thing with Dee is she's all threat all around she's Kim Spradlin she's Boston Rob she's the only winner on the cast right now so yeah she is the biggest apart from maybe Cirie.
43:20 I think those two will probably go to war before Dee will try to go to war with Jonathan I think cuz I think those are more natural enemies and you know maybe it might be sort of like a hyena versus the lion situation where all the big threats to kind of get together they don't care about who's new school who's old school and just try to work together because you kind of have to do that in a game with big players and there's a lot of big players still left. Yeah. Let's bring up this comment here from Chris saying I was speaking with my mom earlier and she had a lot of nice things to say about Q she would like him back on another season so according to her he fits in well on this season and I think both Andre and I are two thumbs up when it comes to Q coming back for another season. We really love what he brings to the show and I'm glad to know that your mom loves him as well because that means that he's not just you know he's resonating with people who are probably a lot more casual than us as well which is great.
44:13 We need some of these new school legends to keep the game going like we want to see more of Survivor for many years to come. Quick question on that because I don't want to lose this thought. I saw a few comments online where and this is was a thing back in the day where people talked about this and it's sort of making a resurface with the likeability of Colby going back up and people liking the new Donaldson out there. Some people are saying that when Jeff hangs up you know the torch or whatever you call it the mic Colby should come in and be the host of the show and we've got David who's come in and who's become a host now of Australian Survivor so the precedent's been set for a player to come and host the show. What do you think about Colby Donaldson potentially coming in? He's been a host before I believe in America there was a like a show about guns and things like that. >> I think yeah. >> Top Shot it was called and he was a host for them.
45:04 I never watched it so I don't know how he was on it. What's your thoughts on that? Do you think that Colby's got the chops to do it? I mean probably not to be honest. Like my conspiracy theory when Jonathan LaPaglia was fired from Australian Survivor my theory was that Jeff was going to play on season 50 and JLP was going to host 50. And obviously that didn't turn out. That would have been cool and that would have been a natural passing of the torch but I just don't first of all I don't see Jeff ever retiring ever at this stage unless like I don't know God forbid but I just don't see him leaving. To your question I just don't see Colby being a good replace cuz he's like I don't think he'll have the energy to like we saw him very upbeat this episode in this season but I don't think he has the patience for five or 10 seasons of this stuff.
45:55 You need somebody I feel like relatively young compared to Jeff that has a little bit more time and energy that can host it for the next 20 years. and I just don't I don't I personally don't see a former player taking the route. I know that David sort of did it but yeah I don't I don't see it but I could be proven wrong who knows. I didn't see Top Shot by the way so I have no idea how he is as a host. >> [clears throat] >> Maybe there's people in the comments that have seen him host Top Shot and they can they can talk to that. Dolores is saying isn't Dee the only winner left my girl has a target that's for sure. Yes we've mentioned it she is the only winner left and to be honest I love Dee like this season is only just I'm all on the Dee train I'm even like I love her as a winner and I think she's proven why she is the best new school winner in my opinion of this new era you know.
46:45 Chris saying I'm glad you called my mother casual because you sounded like you were going to say she's old. I feel like with my gray hairs coming out of my beard here I'm not allowed to judge who's old and who's not right so I've lost that privilege. Zuderman is saying Colby host Survivor never. Chris is saying Colby could be a good host but he isn't even that much younger than Probst you probably want someone younger. That's true he's probably only like 10 years maybe younger than Probst so you probably want to go He's the same age as JLP actually to be honest cuz Jeff was not a spring chicken either. Yeah but JLP he's young. >> He looks young yeah. Yeah he's still he's in shape and I personally would love to see JLP host the show but I think that I think you're right I think Jeff has got another 10 years of Survivor in him potentially. Like I feel like he's just going to keep pushing it before he says hey it's time to hang up the torch.
47:37 He's like 60? How old is he? Yeah like I reckon Jeff will probably host the show until he's 70. That's my that's my hot take. Let's see how much time Ryan has left to age. Let's have a look. Okay so you're saying he has six he has six years left. 12 more seasons. Six years left. Yeah. 12 more seasons of Jeff. Well wouldn't season 60 be the perfect season for him to say that's it this is the last season for me like it's a nice round number He'll be 74. 70 That's like the age of Rudy. 74 when he hosts season 60. Yeah 74. Wow. Oh wait no sorry no I sorry no I was thinking 20 seasons. No I for some reason I'm thinking this is season 40. Five years yeah you're right you are right yeah. Yeah so if he finishes at season 60 and he's like I hand the torch over to someone new I do think if it's a player it's going to be someone from a newer middle school era that is young enough to potentially host the show but ultimately he was saying Devens as well.
48:40 Yeah. Devens could be okay I don't know. Devens could be interesting but I don't know like should it be here's a question should it be a female host? Yeah I mean I it's more of a for me I don't mind if it's a male or female to be honest. I think it's more of a question should it be a former player or should it be an unknown? I actually think it should just be an unknown. Just do something completely someone completely >> Okay well I want to I want to throw it out the reason I'm taking this angle is cuz we're talking about Colby Donaldson people have talked about Boston Rob. Boston Rob's not doing it because his accent I think is too thick like but maybe they will like Americans probably understand that Boston accent really well but >> What about you talking about poverty? Poverty like what about poverty? What about what about a former player that was great Kim what about Kim? Kim could yeah Kim could do it. I'm trying to think somebody that has like a really big personality not necessarily a good player but someone with a big personality that can really hang with as What about Lauren Beck?
49:38 What about Lauren Beck? She's still very much in the So what Kelly Wentworth? This is great female like Kelly Wentworth would be great as well. Like I feel like she >> Kelly Wentworth would be good actually. I'm trying to think of somebody that has like done a lot of podcast hosting that would really fit in that mold that's been sort of online RHAP or that's like a regular guest that really is suited for that for that role. I mean that I think that's a quite a few actually. It's fun. It's fun to speculate. It's fun to speculate who could do it like who could but like I think Survivor would probably The reason I'm thinking it could be a former player Andre I'm just going to sit the case here for why I think it could happen is because when you go to an unknown name coming in that's a unless it's JLP who's proven and tested and people like at least some people will know who he is or they can they can lean on his experience of Australian Survivor and hosting that.
50:31 I feel like you need a star power player to come back and host it people would want to tune in to see how they're going to do and not to lose that fan base cuz there is a lot of people in the US that love I know who could be. Jeremy Collins. I would love Jeremy Collins to host. I actually love >> that's a really good cuz he's a winner you know he kind of fits the David mold. I think that would be good. He's a big >> Jeremy would be cool. Yeah. You need someone you need someone who's very socially aware. Like I feel like because you've got to ask these intriguing questions at Tribal Council. Let's see what people are saying. Okay. I would love to see Jeff play that would be brilliant. I would love to see it as well. >> He's getting old got to do it now. We got to get him on the season or something. >> before it's too late.
51:22 Zudoman is saying he's going until season 60 I'm calling it. When Jeff stops I fear Survivor will stop. Yeah I'm fearful of that as well. Season 60 in the hands of probes a season with all of Jeff's favorite twists. >> [laughter] >> Worst season ever. Tune in for that. Will people tune in for that? Oh Devens as the host would piss me off. Don't don't. >> [laughter] >> People said that about David. David's not been bad. Like I know like David was very good at pulling back his persona of the golden god said look I'm just going to be hosting as David and if Devens becomes host he's just going to be Rick. He's not going to be Devens he's going to be Rick. And I feel like you need to have that intelligence to know when you're a host you shouldn't really insert yourself into the game as much. You know Jeff obviously the exception to the rule but I think that hopefully if Dev if Devens does get it that he will sort of pull back that a little bit more.
52:20 Yeah. Lexa welcome back to the life it's great to have you here. Happy Passover and Easter to everyone. Yes we are saying happy Passover and Easter to everyone. We've also got Chris saying Survivor's all about legacy a former player would probably be desired from higher ups in CBS I think so as well. That's why I'm calling it I think it'll be a previous player. I used to think that it like I in a perfect world it should be someone completely neutral but I think it'll be a previous player. Georgette is giving Wentworth her endorsement. Zudoman is saying Parvati Rob Sandra Lauren Wentworth Devens or Andrea. >> Andrea is a big one. Yeah. Oh Rob C how could we have forgotten the man the myth the legend the podfather himself Rob C. I would love to see Rob host Yeah we could have him in All Stars do it. Yeah I think he would be great to be honest with you.
53:11 So Tyson could be a good one as well. I agree. Tyson would be the David Genat. Like he would be the David Genat potentially. I think he's a similar kind of archetype like when it comes to And >> [laughter] >> in his podcast he does he does pull back that persona a little bit. Yeah which is great it's great to see. I love his podcast yeah shout out to the pod has spoken. It's a it's a good podcast for anyone. I'm sure everybody's already aware of it but let's talk a little bit about this Genevieve Tribal Council probably the most robbed player of all time like she the only the only move that she had that she tried here with Christian and obviously Christian so connected to Devens who was so happy to be back there with his boy >> [snorts] >> and then with Aubry who they had this bond in regards to the idol she uses the analogy of the rats and that you're part of this group of people that the larger contingent of people back at the merge is going to want to deal with at some stage and both Aubry and Devens is a sinking ship and you're probably the tallest blade of grass in between all of them and potentially could take a bullet for them.
54:22 I thought it wasn't a great attempt by Genevieve in this moment and at least again showed us why she is a great player of this game that just ended up in a bad spot. Yeah. I think only move she had in my in my point of view was to throw Joe under the bus. I think that's the only thing that she could have done. because there's no way that she's going to kind of split up the other side that's not going to happen. I would have if I was her I would play have played my shot in the dark and thrown Joe under the bus and just given myself as many outs as possible. Would probably wouldn't have worked cuz she is just even Joe threw her under the bus like even Joe voted for her. and it's like she like it's historically robbed because she did everything well 99% of things right. Every single person in her alliance basically became useless.
55:13 Like Q didn't have a vote Colby didn't have a vote. She didn't have a vote. >> [laughter] >> you know Stephanie was off somewhere else. I don't maybe I'm starting to think that maybe James was right about Stephanie's curse everyone in Stephanie's alliance basically got catapulted. Kyle was medically evacuated. So I mean can you get any unlucky than that? You find two hidden immunity idols and you can use neither of them. So it's just like I failed to see what more she could have done. Yeah. And then she clearly she tried to paint it over with Aubry didn't work. So it's like you know I feel really bad for her and I really want her to come back cuz I feel like if anybody in history it's like just put her on a season with like Malcolm and someone else who was robbed I can't think of anyone off the top of my head but yeah terrible luck and nothing she could have done.
56:04 Just throw Joe under the bus and it's like I guess she probably could have gone into the fears of Devens a little bit more to say hey you know like I and there's this week's Australian Survivor there was some really good fake and idol plays. She could have done something similar to that like oh you know I'm not going to say anything but you know you bet vote for Joe like just trust me. So I don't know like I maybe there's something she could have done but yeah she was dead in the water there. Yeah that's interesting. I think the only thing she could have done is draw a different rock. Like get [laughter] a different color tribe. Go to a different group here like I think you kind of laid it all out there. She was literally between a rock and a hard place here when it came to this group and had no room to move and Aubry ultimately winning out the battle here but more by luck in my mind than anything else.
56:55 We spoke about it a little bit earlier as well and then probably something worth talking about is that Genevieve has said an exit press I think that was one of the few exit interviews that I started listening to that she probably has retired from Survivor and doesn't want to come back and play the game again. She's more than happy to >> She's more likely to come back after this. >> Yeah well she's saying I'm more than happy to just sit on the sidelines and be a fan again and she said the only reason or the only potential avenue that she would come back and play the game again is if it's a blood versus water because her husband badly wants to play the game and she would do it for him is what she said. >> So you're saying there's a chance that she'll come back to it. >> and I'm hoping cuz to me Are you a fan of that though? Are you a fan of blood versus water cuz I kind of like the theme and I wouldn't mind seeing it back either. It's been done to really well twice and it's been done really badly once. So it's just take the lessons of the ones that did I love I think blood versus water is really good sort of like pivot for players because it actually existing players.
57:56 I like it with existing players. Yes not the new like even though Natalie Anderson season was quite a good season as well actually. Like I didn't enjoy that part of it but yeah. >> Both the American seasons were really good. I feel like they that's the only season where Redemption Island actually works as well. Which I think that was I don't know why they decided not to do that for San Juan del Sur but I think that was one that actually did work. Yeah I hope I hope we get to see her back again. I hope we get to see like she seems like one of those players that should be should be at least the one time winner of Survivor. Like she's up there she reminds me of Kim and Parvati and a mixture of those two players in all in one and it'd be a shame if this is the end of the legacy for her. So yeah I don't know if there's much more that we can say in that moment. You said Joe voted correctly.
58:46 Christian and Devens Aubry luck was on their side >> Did Joe did Joe did Joe vote correctly because now Joe like why would Joe throw Genevieve under the bus unless he was actually concerned that his vote would have mattered right? Cuz that kind of goes against Joe's persona. And then he kind of weaponized it against Joe too. If you're if you're Christian you'd be like well Joe destroyed Genevieve. >> but who's Joe close with? Like Joe's number one is coach right? And coach is one of those players that preaches loyalty and integrity but still puts himself in front of like he was also but he tried a little bit to save Colby almost to the point where it got him in trouble with D but he also turned ultimately I believe against Colby there in that moment. Like I feel like coach who will have a bit of sway with that group who's got Joe there. Like they'll understand.
59:36 Like both coach and Joe were in a horrible position and their groups. And it's not like there was that much they could have done to really save Genevieve or Colby in those groups. So I do think he's going to come out of this looking okay. Like people are going to blame the twist more than what they'll blame the individual players who had to turn on their allies here in this moment to save themselves. That's my That's my take on that. >> You just don't want to give anybody an excuse to target you. If you're Joe and you use loyalty and integrity as a currency, which let's be honest, that's his game. Like that is his currency and for him to willingly give up his currency for no particular reason. Maybe he was Maybe there's an angle where he's like, "Look, I'm in it with you guys now. Like I'm with Christian. I'm with I'm with you Aubry. I'm with like I'm ride or die to you to the end." Maybe we just didn't see that conversation.
1:00:27 Maybe it's not relevant because Joe gets voted off next week. I could totally see that happening. I could see that like now they have Joe in the pocket. Like that's certainly a possibility. 100%. Lexi says, "I love Blood vs. Water. I would love to see Sandra and Nina compete in the American version. I feel like Nina deserves to play Survivor US. She's had some great showings on Australian Survivor. I would love to see how she does playing with Americans cuz she had to like you know, at the end of the day there's real cultural differences between Australians and Americans. >> We had that conversation with Rob. It's like yeah. Yeah, exactly. So I feel like her being able to adapt to the Australian way and do well over here like I can only imagine how she would be like if she could play with her counterparts over in the US in my mind, you know. So >> She'd be a killer cuz she's a two-time player.
1:01:17 American players probably won't know that she's a two-time player or that she did really well. >> Well, new school are all fans. Like they're only cast fans of the show these days. So I feel like some people will know. Yeah. love Natalie season. I also am a Redemption Island fan. Yeah, so Andre literally said to me the other day cuz I'm trying to get Julie my partner to watch Survivor and he was like, "Just get her to watch Boston Rob's season because most of the girls love Boston Rob and the seasons that he's in." And that's how you got your partner into it. So I'm kind of not surprised to see that you love Redemption Island. Like if you're a Boston Rob fan, I feel like that is the season to watch, right? I think she's I think Lexi is referring to Redemption Island on Blood vs. Water What in the hell? >> [laughter] >> Ah, got you. Got you. I thought Redemption Island the actual season. But it makes sense. The Redemption Island was very great. Yeah, with It was great on that season.
1:02:09 Fighting with everybody. >> [laughter] >> So BBG says, "I'm late but Aubry's my new winner pick now that Colby and Genevieve are gone." And BBG, I actually said it earlier in the podcast like I said that Aubry has gone up in my winner watch estimations. But I don't know if that's a good thing for Aubry because I had Colby in my top three prior to this episode and he ended up going home. So I wouldn't put too much stock into my analysis. >> is I feel like if Aubry was the winner, they would have given her a better edit or they would have done something a little bit better with how she handled Genevieve. I would have They would have made it a little bit more positive on the Aubry side, I feel. Yeah. Yeah. Nina was on this American show The Anonymous. Highly recommended. It was good and she was great on it, okay? Haven't watched Have you watched The Anonymous? I've never even heard of it.
1:02:59 Yeah. I might I might check it out, yeah. Yeah. Lexi is saying, "To be honest, I love Matt on Redemption Island. Not a big Boston Rob fan, but I love the comedy and tragedy of that season. Philip made me laugh. Matt made me cry, but yes, I meant the twist." Yeah, I like I like Philip on that season as well. He was He was He was funny. It's a shame Philip couldn't Can you imagine if Philip and Coach played on the same season? Like have they ever played? Yeah, that would have been a No. I mean, I feel like also Philip actually played a good game in 26. Like I Like he got screwed. He actually Well, he didn't get screwed, but you know, Malcolm should have played that a little bit better, to be honest. Yeah, so also like The Edge of Extinction. I'm sad we didn't get Chris Underwood back to play Devens. Would love to see Chris do a non-Edge season and how cool would Edge of Extinction be with 19 minutes left? >> what also blew my mind? I didn't even pick up on it when I was watching it, but Devens and Aubry were on the same season, of course.
1:03:54 Like I didn't even pick it up in the moment. >> I realized that I realized that in the episode. I was like, "Oh, that's right. They played the same season together. Yeah." okay, so we talked about all of the things with Colby's elimination. Was there anything that we missed out on that tribe and that dynamic? Anything you wanted to talk about that sort of we didn't dive into? >> That tribe? No, I think that I think that tribe was pretty straightforward, to be honest. >> Yeah. Pre- pretty straightforward. Probably the least exciting one. So I probably will go into our latest draft and see where we're sitting on points and all of that. So let's have a bit of a look here. Obviously one of those weeks where I think we pretty much had someone drop from each one of our tribes this week. So we had Camila that the TNT community lost. You lost Genevieve, which now puts you down to two players.
1:04:45 And then Colby, someone that got dropped from my team. So Andre, overall, two people left at this stage in the game. It is slim pickings. It's hard, but I mean, I'm glad I've got I've got I think I think Christian is still my winner's pick. Thank god. I didn't see anything I like I noticed with Christian when he's wasn't a really big part of the episode, but if you notice when they were going into the merge, it was just him narrating the entire time. Maybe he's a good narrator. I think Genevieve actually mentioned that where like you got really good narrators. she did in her like exit interview. and it's like Christian specifically was the one that did it. So I'm happy with that. Devens, I'm not entirely sure, but then we've got Chekov's idol. So I'm pretty excited to see what happens there. Probably putting paints a bigger target on Devens' back. So you know, I'm not too hopeful there, but at least I've got Christian.
1:05:37 That's the only way I don't think I can win anyway, so I'm just free riding right now. Yeah, it's going to be It's going to be a tough one to fill the gap because I think we ended up on like 20 points or something for the winner outright. So it's and you're There's a bit of a gap now for you to sort of make up. but if you can get bragging rights at least for the winner, that's something. You're not walking away with nothing. It's almost like getting America's favorite player, you know, or the fan award by the end of the season, right? but yeah, I think like you said, you've got two very solid players still in the game. I think both Devens and Christian have They still have room to move here. There's other players that need to be taken care of probably before both of them. And also, let's not forget they've got that idol play that they can still do the fake idol play at Tribal Council. We know that's going to come to the forefront at some stage, you know?
1:06:28 Then in my tribe you've got Coach, who I still won't count out as a potential winner. Like I know I probably should after this episode. and especially if the dragon slayer's coming back next episode, he might just burn out all his social capital within that tribe. But I'm still living for him and seeing him at least acknowledge the mistake that he made when he was lying to D was good to see. Joe, no shot at winning. he's just collecting points for me. D, if she wins becomes instantly one of the best to ever play. So it's such a tough ask. I'm I've been impressed with her this season, but I don't know how deep she can really go in this game, especially It's been known to happen. >> Good players Good players can If you're a good player, you can get it to the end. It's just going to be very difficult. So I but I have faith in her. I think she's a good enough player to be able to Yeah. Pull a poverty. Yeah. And also Jeff kind of you know, making it obvious that she's an immunity threat this episode by saying, "Oh, you've won this three times before." And she's like, "Hey, please don't say that." And he's like, "Oh, there's no secrets on the island." but I'm sure there's some of these old school players who didn't watch her season.
1:07:33 So she could have maybe gotten away with it a little bit, but now people know she's a legitimate threat. Stephanie who only won her second immunity this episode, which was quite interesting to see. I thought she somehow >> a big She's not a big winner of immunity historically, is she? [laughter] Well, team immunities, I guess. Like but she's physically fit. So I was like, "Ah, I thought she won immunity." >> yeah. What would have been in Guatemala, hey? Yeah, cuz she didn't make it very far in Heroes vs. Villains, yeah. Yeah. And then Ozzy, who I like if I had to put money on like a winner in my team right now, I'd say Ozzy, dark horse, starting to Like why are we seeing him so often? Why is he so central to everything that's happening this season? He We're seeing a lot of his strategy. Like yes, there's flaws in his game and we could see the old Ozzy sometimes, but like I wouldn't count him out. I would say he's in there. And then Aubry is lifting.
1:08:24 And once again, how funny and ironic would it be if Aubry ends up being a winner one of the season when she was the last person who fell to me in the draft. I think you're starting to get a good team there. Like it's pretty impressive team, I have to say. I'm playing mostly because of Ozzy and Aubry, to be honest, cuz I wasn't expecting those two to actually have real winner's equity going into it. Exactly. And then TNT community still has Cirie in the game who if she gets to the end, she wins, I think, easily. So it's just more case of how far can she go and will people let her get that deep in the game? Chrissy is on the up and up. You said it best. Like Do we think Chrissy's got a chance? Like we've seen her strategic chops. Yeah. Tiff had confessionals this week, Andre. Out of nowhere. Do you think that the production team listened to the criticism and suddenly Yeah.
1:09:14 >> there were rumors that or somebody a past player, I think it was Savannah was saying that they actually do change edits on the fly. Which is Which is a pretty damning indictment to production, if I'm being 100% honest. Cuz they kind tipped their cards there by not editing it all. So, we know she's not going to win. Like this it's next to impossible for her to win. And for us I was I thought she was going to get voted off, to be honest, because of that visibility spike, but there you go. Kamilla was Yeah, same. It definitely threw me off as well. And then Jonathan I think has a chance to win this game still. I don't know why. Like I could see a see a possibility for him to go to the end and explain his game and potentially win. Rizo who to me at this stage I feel like Rizo's got the edit of the kid who goes to the end but doesn't get the votes. Is what I'm getting from him at the moment.
1:10:05 Like I It might just because he wasn't relevant this episode though. We still saw him. Yes. Yes. >> Yeah. But I just don't think I just don't think Rizo wins because he's so young compared to some of these people he's playing with. Then again yeah, I mean matter? But You were talking about Colby in his first season, right? Same age. Colby in his first season. He's doesn't seem that, you know? Yeah, it doesn't. It's just way different. The maturity levels are very different. And then Emily there as well. I just Emily is a great character for Survivor and Emily can come back as often as she wants to play Survivor. I don't think she's ever going to win. So, I just don't think she's got the social awareness or the emotional EQ to win a season, but damn is she good TV. I know some people will get really annoyed by her probably and wouldn't like but that's the thing if you feel a certain way Andre.
1:10:56 If you're pro a player or you're against a player, I've always been of the belief that's the perfect casting. You And that's why villains are important because if you want to shout for someone to beat the villain. And in some ways is Emily a new school villain? Like is she Yeah. She's very she's very two-toned, right? Like she's either like super loose or she whenever she plays she kind of clams up and she just votes with who she's voting with. So, it's kind of like there's nothing in between. It's just either chaos or completely boring gameplay. Like this episode is like, okay, we know that Emily's just going to do whatever Emily does. She I don't think she even had a confessional if I if I if I remember correctly. It's just that she's either hot or cold. so, I mean I'm all there for it because it's like when she's firing, she's firing really well.
1:11:48 So, hopefully we can get more of unhinged Emily and I'm just going to vote for Christian Emily. Or with Christian's team. >> Okay. I'm going to go quickly through the points here. So, we had in my tribe Colby voted out minus five points. Coach Joe, D, Stephanie, Ozzy, and Aubry all survived giving me a point. I gave two players three points for winning the immunity outright D and Stephanie came in clutch to help me counteract the points that I lost for Colby getting voted out. Then I had Coach caught in a lie for two points. And I had Ozzy as making a big move and picking Rizo to go to Redemption Island with him. Did you like that choice? Cuz I thought it was a great choice. Picking someone that he didn't have a relationship prior to going into the game where he kind of holds his cards close to the chest not showing necessarily who he wants to work with in the game because no one really knows where Rizo is or what his game is about.
1:12:49 Yeah, in retrospect it was a good move just because well he knew that Cirie was with Rizo, right? And they had a very strong relationship and them just solidifying down that trinity I guess or triumvirate would definitely was good. I would have I just wish that it was Coach to be honest. Coach and Ozzy on Redemption Island. That would have been fun. Yeah. And then for your team for your team we had Christian and Devon survive both with one point. Genevieve got minus five which hurt, but Christian came in clutch with the immunity win and three points. We didn't really get to talk about it. A lot of people online saying Christian cheated and I did watch the second time as well and I've got to say that it looked like he was using his shoulder in the challenge. Andre and >> are the rules like you can't use your shoulder or was it just were they specific about saying you using your hands or something?
1:13:44 So, they explicitly said you're only allowed to use your hands. You're not allowed to touch the front or use your shoulder. And what he did was he had so much flexibility in his arm. He would lean his shoulder against his hand on the edge. So, I think he cheated to be honest and production didn't call it out which is interesting. I don't know. I feel like if he got hyper extension, I think that should be fine. Like because they weren't It's kind of like the analogy I like to use is like with a cricket. I know you don't watch cricket, but there's a Indian bowler called Bumrah who can hyper extend his elbow. And then they don't say it's an illegal throw, right? It's like, no, this is this is a natural way of doing it. So, I think he is within the rules. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, but that's probably cuz I >> Yeah, cuz he wasn't leaning his shoulder against the actual side.
1:14:35 He was leaning it against his arm which was on the side. But I don't know. It's interesting. Everybody has Everybody has like natural advantages, right? Like D has big toes or like people have big feet or small feet or tall or I think that let's give I would give Christian that to be honest. Give him the pass. But he got the hey, he got the three points in the draft which is all that matters. And then for TNT community we had Cirie, Chrissy, Tiff, Jonathan, Rizo, and Emily all survived. Kamilla minus five points for being voted out. We had also in this tribe some big move players. So, Cirie I put down as a big move and I put her down as a big move for taking out the head of the snake and Colby and really being the one that drove that vote to get Colby out cuz he had more social capital in the game. And I also had Chrissy with three points for saving herself and getting Jonathan to flip on that tribe.
1:15:31 Yeah, I'd give that to Chrissy over Jonathan for sure every day. Yeah. So, quite a few different points here. Let me just have a look. I'm just cleaning it up. So, let's see where we are finishing at the end of this episode. So, I had a total of 10 points this week which would put me at 103 points still outright at the top at this stage. We had TNT community with eight points sitting on 91. The gap is pretty much similar I think to what it was last week. We haven't gone here or there. You actually ended up on zero because you had the minus five, but then Christian and Devon surviving and also Christian winning immunity which kind of zeroed it out. So, you're still sitting at 54 at this point. So, a very steep hill for you to climb at this stage. But hey, it's been it's been a fun season to watch at this stage at least.
1:16:23 And like you said, you might >> [laughter] >> you might you might still have bragging rights. Let's see what people are saying here before we sort of close things out. Okay. Let's see. I had Coach as a winner contender up until this episode. This one was a bit rough from an edgic wise point of view. He didn't have any agency in the tribal council vote and we didn't check in with him. And I think that can change very quickly with just being back in a group where he's got his allies with him. Like he got swapped into a bad tribe, but I think what was key with Coach was the fact that they gave him the opportunity to acknowledge to the camera that he made a mistake and he knew he made a mistake. Like them showing that to me is a good edit still for him. Like because he's at least aware of what he's >> Yeah, I was going to say like actually we did see like for a for a massive merge we saw a heck a lot of Coach of somebody that wasn't really relevant this episode.
1:17:17 Yeah. Will is saying it's Rizo or bust for me this season. If Coach somehow wins, I'd love to see the melt though. Fair enough. We will I have faith in our team. Let's have a look what other people are saying. The Survivor AU this season is really good as well. Haven't watched it yet, but we'll get into it for sure. 24 players was probably a mistake knowing how production lines to screw things up likes to screw things up. I still like the bigger season just because we got more room to maneuver in this. The only thing that's bust for me really Andre is the fact that we had we probably should have had more tribals with teams going to tribal council prior to the merge so we could see some of these alliances actually play out and form real bonds because it's kind of jarring that there was so many players that went into the merge that never went to tribal council.
1:18:08 It's very one-sided pre-merge. Could we could we move to an Australian Survivor type of maybe not as many episodes, but an Australian Survivor type of 24 season like it doesn't ever feel like >> more days. You'd need more days. Yeah. It never feels rushed though, you know? I guess that's because I've got they have like 50 days. So, it really feel it. And it feels like that does feel like real Survivor. This feels a little bit like a simulation of Survivor season. It feels like kind of like an online Survivor season in a way. So, it's unfortunate. Yeah. I don't understand why Emily wasn't on the block. Wish we got more of her and Cirie bonding. The edit isn't showing us why Cirie, Colby, Coach didn't The edit isn't showing us why Cirie, Colby, and Coach didn't form a heroes versus villains alliance. I think that it's mainly Colby was a part of that group that took her out in that in that season.
1:18:59 So, I don't think Cirie holds grudges. Like I think she could work with people who voted her out. It's just she doesn't feel like she's important to Colby's alliance is what I got. Like and he doesn't care. Yeah, one of thing that I wanted to touch upon is it in that tribal council there were five people, right? And there were three old schoolers and they were the two were kind of acting. So, either they were Cirie was with those two which is possible, but if those three wanted to go against those two, Colby doesn't have a vote, right? So it would be all up to who they vote for because if they voted for Colby wouldn't be able to vote on the re- on the re-vote. Like Colby would have taken out Coach, right? Or probably would have voted for Coach. So that implies that Cirie was with those. So I'm just wondering, was there anything that Cirie, Colby and Coach could have done in that Tribal Council? Especially if they voted for Colby wouldn't be able to vote on the re- on the re-vote.
1:19:49 And I guess it would have gone to fire at that stage. >> Yes. Yes. >> And I'd probably I'd probably trust if they voted for it was it was Emily on that seat on Emily that they could have voted for. So that I would have I would have backed Colby to beat Emily in a fire-making challenge in that in that stage. So maybe that was something they could have done. but I don't know why they didn't talk about that remains to be seen. Maybe they just wanted to give Colby a swan song. And I just I just got the feeling that Cirie's just not work she's not working with Colby and Coach really and she's working with different people. She's not a part of their group. don't know why Jeff is obsessed with small tribes of three. Better that we have one person on exile with two tribes of eight. Totally agree with you. >> to see 17 votes or I guess 16 votes. That would have been amazing. Yeah. Yeah. Out of Coach, Ozzy, Joe, Jonathan or Stephanie, who is doing the best strategically compared to past seasons?
1:20:42 I like that question. Well, I think Coach is down compared to South Pacific. Ozzy never really played strategically in any of his previous He's probably the best >> yeah. Yeah. I would say it's Ozzy. Joe, I didn't really get to watch the full season. The like I'm I think but people are saying he's still a nothing burger at this stage and Jonathan has improved because maybe we're just seeing him like there's more there's more opportunity. Again, shows you why the new era is not that great because of these small tribes and you know, one tribe not having anything and losing all the time and going back to Tribal Council. Like Jonathan didn't have much room to play in last time before he even hit the merge, right? So and he kept winning. So but yeah, I'd say Ozzy. My money would be on Ozzy in that group. Kristen cheated as if Genevieve couldn't have been even more unlucky. Yeah.
1:21:33 I guess Christian wasn't the only person to put hands on this season. Cirie did amazing this week by saving herself and getting her allies to bond. Her and Rizo and Ozzy will be a force with all the advantages. Totally agree. Guess Rizo has a photo of meeting Cirie years earlier that she obviously doesn't remember. She Yeah, I saw that. Let's see. Need more returning seasons fast, especially second chance. Not just heavily dominated by four or five time players. We need David back. We need so many players. Yeah. Jet saying so cool got comments read first time ever on YouTube. Usually late videos so not so don't watch live. Hey, well, hopefully we can get you on more lives. I love reading the comments. It's one of the things that I missed the most when I stopped podcasting for the last year and I was too busy with my personal life is I really miss the community and I really miss bringing up the comments and sort of dissecting the show.
1:22:24 Like I feel like it's you know, I've always said the third or fourth or however many however many hosts we have on the show, the extra host is the community. The community asking us questions and sometimes keeping us honest as well. So this has been a blast, Andre. I really had a blast on this recap. Is there any final thoughts? Anything you wanted to say as we sort of close things out here? No, I mean this I think this podcast is better than the episode, to be honest. >> [laughter] >> We're biased. But Like yeah. Hopefully next episode will be better. Less crazy twists and more actual gameplay and more Survivor. We had a lot to talk about because one thing that was historic about this episode was we did get three Tribal Councils and three players getting voted out, which has never happened before. So you know, there was a lot to talk about. But hey, for anyone that comes across this at a later stage who sees the live, wants to support the channel, please subscribe.
1:23:17 That's the best way to know that you love the content that we put out there. put a like on the video and leave a comment below. We do read the comments and I do try and get back to people after the fact. So thank you so much. And BBG endorses your comment as well as we're closing it out here saying the podcast was definitely better than the episode. We appreciate that. It was a low bar. It was a low bar, but we will still take it. Yeah. Thanks, everyone. Grab your torches, head back to camp. We'll catch you guys on the next recap. See you.
