Episode summary

In their raw, live reaction to Survivor 51 episode 3, Chris and Andre discuss how advantages are now a choice rather than forced, which led to two very different outcomes on the two beaches. They look at Lewis’s use of Exile, Kilby’s decision around the puzzle, Brady giving up an advantage, and how Carter went from missing the boat to taking control. They also assess the edit for Devin, Jenna and Mike, compare one alliance to the Cookout from Big Brother, give early winner contenders, and touch on who could one day take over from Jeff Probst.

0:00 Welcome back to the Nullified Take channel on YouTube. I'm your host Chris back with my co-host Andre to talk about Survivor 51 episode 3. And Andre, we had a brief 30 secondond chat before we went live. So this is going to be raw reactions to the episode. But I sense from you from the conversation we had that you're similar to me thinking that we're off to a bit of a burner or like a screamer of a season. Like it's looking like it's going to be very good. So, I'm excited to talk to you about all things Survivor 51. are you as high on Survivor 51 as I am at this stage? I am. Yeah. No, it's a great start to the season. they've proven us wrong, I think. but there's it's a long it's going to be a long season, so let's just bask in the glory that is Survivor 51. Never thought I would say that, but yeah, I'm really excited.

0:52 They're letting the players play, which I mean, you can't you can't ask more than that. That's what the essence of Survivor really is. It's not the twist, it's a cast, it's a characters, it's letting them play. And it's big travel big bombastic tribal councils, too. So, it had it all. Yeah, I agree with you. And, I do want to say it's interesting. you know, Jeff is right in a sense that we as fans do want twists, right? We don't want a season with absolutely no idols, absolutely no twist. I mean, one of the biggest moments of this episode was a twist, but it's the way that you incorporate that twist to the season, right? has a massive influence on it. Like for instance, this episode there was a mutiny that was given as an option to players. They weren't forced to mutiny, which Jeff, previously in the

1:40 In the new era seasons between 41 to 50, forced players to lose their vote, forced them to play for advantages. This time they're given the option to choose if they want to do it. And that's what makes the show intriguing because we get two very different outcomes with two different players being selected from both beaches to go to the opposing tribe, right? but before we get into the mutiny twist itself, we do need to start with the biggest elephant in the room being Rob. what was your take on Rob this episode? He tried to play his idol on you know his fellow castmate there and he wanted to vote himself out. It didn't work. So he ends up what looked like to me quitting the game at this at this stage in the game. Oh, he 100% quit the game. There was literally nothing wrong with him. He wanted to go home. He didn't want to admit that he was quitting either, which I found hilarious. Is this the worst

2:32 Quit of all time? Like has there been a worse quit than this? Yeah. May maybe Colton and what was the season that they that they played and it was him and his family member Caleb. Yeah. Yeah. And he just and he just quit and like that could be up there as well. But I think what made this at least Colton owned it like Rob didn't own it which makes it in my mind maybe worse. Like he's still now saying that it was legitimate medical concerns that is the reason that he left. Colton took the idol with him where he took his he had an idol, right? And he took it with him. I would have thought that he would have given it to Caleb or something. Maybe I'm mis misremembering that. Maybe it was an idol.

3:19 It was He definitely had an idol. I remember he was he left without an idol. He didn't give it to anybody. That's what I remember. At least But do you think do you think the production was like, "Hey, Rob, like give it to Carter. like give it to somebody so we're not like we're not giving out an idol to somebody and it's just out of out of play or I haven't read the I haven't read the articles or anything like that and again I mean I haven't read the behind the scenes but from what I understand he gave on the boat ride back to the tribe he gave the idol to Carter at that stage in the game is what I sort of briefly saw this morning. So he always knew, it was premeditated that he was going to quit the next day because he already gave his idol away before he went back to the beach, right? So but you could see his gears spinning when the doctor was there talking, hey, this doesn't look like something that we're going to pull you

4:11 From the game. It's not that it's not that deep. It's a very small cut. And then you know, you could see the gears spinning. He's like, but can it be infected? And obviously as a doctor, you're going to have to say that because you don't want to be liable for anything, especially in America where you can get sued for everything and anything. You don't want to be liable if it does get infected and you didn't tell him that it's going to happen. And immediately as soon as he saw that little bit of an opportunity there, he just grabbed it and he's like, "Yeah, I can't, you know, I'm a dad. I've got a responsibilities at home. I've got to go." And what made it even worse, Andre, is that there are two people like I mean, you know, you've got Brady who literally lost a quarter off his thumb still in the game. He cut off his thumb. He cut off his thumb and he's still playing. And then you've got Kristin in the game as well who's struggling with an injury. So, it's like really it

4:56 Shows you the differences here between these players and the motivations to play. And I and I do have to ask Andre like I don't want to be overly critical on the show. Survivor has been doing it for a long time, but what does the psych test look like when they bring these people in? Like, you know, how thoroughly do they vet them? Look, I mean, I don't mind this. Like it's great TV. He didn't hurt anybody. It's just he left. This is not like Kathy, right? Kathy from season 16. She was th she like she literally was like having a mental breakdown. She threatened to cut off her finger. Like that's like that's not that maybe have a little bit more psych test there. But I feel like Rob look a lot of the fan base are upset. It's like hey, you know, or I think it was who was who was the one that Anna. Anna might

5:44 Probably be a little bit upset because it's like he literally cost her spot. I guess if he had if he had quit 12 hours earlier, she would probably still be in the game. but that's it. Look, was it good TV? I think it was actually pretty good TV. Was it good for the game? Probably not so much, but you know, variety is the spice of life, I guess. Yeah, it's good for podcasting at least. Gives us a talking point here early on in the in the recap. Christian, welcome back to the live saying, "Hey guys, Rob from Survivor 51 is a big baby, more worse than Colton." And then Sarah back in the live as well. Sarah, welcome to the live. let us know your thoughts on Rob's quit. did you did you feel like it was good TV, Sarah? Are you with Andre on? Do you like the spicy drama of Rob quitting the game? I think Andre for me you know this

6:33 Potentially could also be a blessing in disguise to the season because we do have 21 players this season. It was an odd number. It was a lot of cast members playing a 26 days game. So I don't mind losing a couple of players early on here. if it because I don't like non-elimination episodes. That's probably the thing that gets me the most than Survivor. So if this quit ended up being a non-elimination episode, I would have been a bit more critical of it. But because we've got so many players, it's not like we've got a shortage of players that can leave early in the game. And maybe it will help with the pacing of the season as we head into the latter stage, which my concern has always been that we're starting so strong this season, but what is it going to be like towards the end when people are going to get forced into a blood moon situation or forced into voting two people out in two smaller tribes and things like that? because

7:21 It's been refreshing seeing these big tribes this season. Like a lot of things I feel justified in a lot of the things that we've been streaming about on podcasts, on Reddit forums, and all these kind of things. it feels like they're either listening by accident or they have listened to the fans. Like you said, someone behind the scenes is pressuring Jeff to go back old school. But it's a very good start in my opinion. Yeah. And some of the better seasons in Survivor history have had quits like this. Like you have Pearl Islands with Austin, you had Kathy from 16. Yeah. Yeah. Like this is this is a pretty like this is pretty old school thing, right? To have the conditions to be so bad that people are actually wanting to quit, which I feel like we've been asking for this for a little while, right? We're like saying we need it to

8:08 Be a little bit harder. We I mean we see Pat with like red marks on her. True. I forgot about Pat. Yeah. Rope burns and stuff. Clearly probably infected. They're probably like throwing like hydrogen peroxide on it every day. I feel like we've been asking for this. No, like make it a little bit hard. I look, I'm obviously don't want anybody to get hurt or anything like that, but make it a little bit more difficult for survivors that they do want to quit. Like, it should be a test of their mental fortitude. And if that means that every so often we're gonna have like an insane quit like this or literally insane quit, I think, you know, that's I'll be willing to take the casting hit because it's like who else are they going to cast instead of Rob? Rob fits a stereotype. He sits an archetype, should I say? You know,

8:54 It's like Teu Warog or Teu Tony. So, you're always going to have a few people like this and like just throw them throw them throw them something. And it's clear that Rob is not a fan. It's clear that Rob is probably a recruit. He doesn't know any He doesn't know about how the game works. So, let it be. I mean, I was entertained. Yeah, it's like Camila says here, Rob seemed like he had no idea how Survive actually works. His gameplay was a mess, but I can't deny he was entertaining to watch. And I do agree. Like, that's the thing that I've always been vocal about here on the channel. I've always said that if someone makes you feel a certain way, you know, if it evokes emotion, either good or bad, that means it was good casting from the production team. Because, you know, that's why we watch reality TV. We want to judge these people. We want to criticize how they play the game. And if he did nothing, if he was a Wallflower, there's still

9:40 Some people in this season that have had no single confessionals, Andre, that have not given us anything. So, you can argue that Rob in the first three episodes of this season, he did deliver. And the fact that he and one thing I will give him credit for, I'm not I don't think it's production who told him to do this. I do think Rob legitimately had a good connection with Carter. He legitimately gave him the idol. And in that sense, I am happy that he did it because Carter, he blew up Carter's game, you know, and Carter comes back to this tribe in a really bad situation. And the survivor gods hands him an opportunity here on a silver platter with being able to go over to the opposing tribe on a bit of an excursion where they find out that one of my favorite twists in Survivor, something that I never thought would come back. It's not the same level of mutiny, I guess, that we that we had when they actually gave the option to

10:30 Two tribes back all the way back in what was the season that you all played in? I forgot the name now. Cook Islands. Yeah, Cook Islands. Yeah. So, it's not the same where they had the option to all mutiny in that moment. But, and maybe we do still get something like that cuz from memory there was two mutinies or something in that season as well. It's been a while since I've watched it. Yeah. But it's an interesting twist that gets brought back that I thought we would never see again. Andre and it felt like it gave us so much this episode. So again, a twist being introduced, not an overpowered twist, but a twist where you can choose if you want to go, you can choose if you want to stay. plus there is an advantage that they can find on the beach. I don't know if we needed the advantage and also the mutiny. But what it made interesting is again the approach of both players was so

11:16 Different where you know they had like one of them was able to wait or wanted to wait until the end the other one was like I need to get this advantage right from the start right and even that is interesting to talk about. Yeah, I think it was Cook Islands and I think that Johnny Fairplay insists that there was one on Pearl Island so they didn't air and I think they wanted to make it so Oh yeah, it's exactly the same as Cook Islands but Johnny Fair play was like oh we'll all mutinium force an early merge because they had the numbers they kind of game that so they don't ever showed it. I think they might have al also offered in like maybe Samoa I feel or something like that. but you know what this really reminded me of? This reminded me of the twist from China and I think it was Aaron and James, but the only difference was they had a choice. And that's what I liked about it. It was like because that's one of the big criticisms from

12:07 China where like Aaron was basically screwed. It was one of the worst sort of like screwings in history. But they get they gave it another chance. It was sort of like, okay, well, I guess I guess it was like they knew like there were two differences. They knew what they were doing. They knew that person sort of was going to go to do a raid or whatever, but then they had a choice on whether or not to do it. I mean, again, agency is there and I just found like just Carter accidentally mutining was just the funniest thing ever. So, it was so in line with Carter and what he was doing. But what did you think of Brady and the way that he approached Carter? I think it was Brady and Mike, right? And then I feel like was it was it Mike?

12:53 Yeah. My goodness. Mike is Mike is dry, isn't he? Like he is not made for TV. I feel like he's such a But then again, I think having these different personalities, each one of them have got a role to play this season. And if you had 10 mics out there, you wouldn't have a season at this stage. And maybe and maybe I'm being overcritical, like Mike might come out with the goods strategically in the future and we might see a lot more of him because he does to see he does seem to be somewhat insulated in that group that did lose power this week, but he may still have longevity in this game. But it's just interesting to see how he was talking very dry. Brady is a bull in a china shop. You see it in everything that he does in the challenges. He's screaming. He's yelling. he wears his emotions on his sleeve. Like you can

13:42 Just see it right when he plays the game. And the way that he approached Carter this early on. I kind of liked it a little bit in the sense that he was like, "Hey, tell me if you found something or if there's an extra twist to you coming here and he's trying to test Carter in this moment to see is this guy going to be truthful to me." But I like the fact that he was aware enough to know that if he was in that position, he wouldn't have necessarily spilled the beans. he wouldn't have necessarily told everything to a stranger he's just met on the island. So, I thought that even though his approach is definitely rough around the edges, he does still have some sort of emotional intelligence in that moment because a lot of players would have taken the high ground and been like, I would have been truthful. I would have told like I can't trust this guy, you know, and at least he understood the predicament that Carter was in coming into that tribe. So, from that perspective, I liked it. But yeah, I do think they can still like I don't know what your take is on this and I

14:34 Don't want to like I know we're jumping all over the place, but to me this episode was very interesting the way that they've edited it this whole season. You've kind of seen Devin, you've seen Brady, you've seen a little bit of Pat, you've seen that side of the alliance a lot. it felt like that with Jelly. They were going to be the power dynamic in the tribe, right? And then the others like Theen and that they haven't really had an edit up until this point. So, it was a great blind side from an edit perspective that you did have Lewis and Carter end up swinging to that underdog alliance to take some control in the game, but I do think that the overarching and maybe I'm going too far into the storytelling and the edit side of it here, but you know, we'd like to go down some rabbit holes on the podcast, Andre, I do feel like Devin going over reconnecting before he reconnecting with Sharonda and things like that alliance is going to

15:23 Find its way somehow. I just don't believe like I think it's like the underdog alliance that's going to be down in the numbers potentially here and it's also because we don't know where Lewis and Carter is going to end up. They just wanted to get some power back here. So there's lots to talk about here but the Brady dynamic with Carter was interesting. what's your thoughts on that? Yeah, I mean it was a very interesting take from Brady. I don't know why more players aren't more like this where you question somebody, they lie to you, but you actually see that as a good quality. This is kind of like the antithetical, which is ironic that he's aligned with Devin, right? Because it's the antithetical version of Devin. It's like if he can lie to me, he can lie for me, which I found quite interesting. It's like it when you have that power imbalance or that knowledge imbalance where he knows something the card

16:11 Doesn't know and you can like sniff that out to not immediately be like I'm going to go after him because he lied to me but actually identify that and say hey you know this guy might be loyal maybe I should try to take him under my wing doesn't work but you know it's a long game you know they can sort of find their way back to each other and we I mean we see this all the time I mean most famously with Kirby and Ferris right an Australian survivor where it's like two people sort of going at it and they're kind of like they know each other's game a little bit and then sort of later on they work with each other because they know each other that well. I think that could be a dynamic we see in the future. I'm not I don't I don't know if I give either of those two much credit as I do those other two players, but yeah, I think it's quite interesting. and yeah, Mike was just I don't know, he's like wet blanket at that stage. but yeah,

16:59 It was it was a definitely a coming out party for the right. I thought that she was she was kind of the one controlling that vote and I think we can probably go into the killby of it all too. I think I think that there were multiple players here like I think to I think ultimately yes if we looked at it at a first layer the controlled the vote because she did swing it to Pat the person she wanted out rather than Kilby. and I think that was really good but I do think that the power players here in this moment were probably Carter and Lewis like because they ultimately were the ones who wanted Yeah, they are ultimately the two people who made this happen. And you get so many seasons where people are afraid to take the shot. And I just want to say Carter as a player is messy. He's fumbling his

17:46 Way through this game. he's like a less he's like I was thinking for a lack of a better term a timu JT at the game, you know. maybe JT after he came back for the third time just playing. We say, did we say earlier it was like a Fabio? Like no, Fabio, we said Brady is like a Fabio and again you've got little Smurfy here saying that Brady is like a combination of Fabio, John from David versus Goliath and maybe one other, but I'm still thinking he's a new player and Brady like if he goes deep in this game is going to be a lock for me to come back and play again like because he's just too big of a character. Devin is great. Like this whole cast is a slam dunk and it's another reason I'm so excited. I am just enjoying the cast at the moment. But I wanted to say like there's so many times that the player's afraid to take the shot. And you can say

18:33 What you want about Carter. You can say he's fumbling his way through this game, but he's not afraid to get on the boat. He's not afraid to take some risks here. Swing with Lewis because Lewis to me, there's something a little bit devious about him as a player. And I'm and I'm and I'm liking Lewis more and more as I see him play this game because he reminds me of like a Johnny Fair play, like a young Johnny Fair player in a way. Like I feel like he's one of these players and it's probably too early to tell, but I feel like he's one of those players that can see outside of the box. He's not an inside of the box thinker. And I think it all started with him firstly identifying here his position in the game, knowing he doesn't have a solid alliance, knowing Carter was new, the person he literally just screwed a couple of hours ago by getting the advantage from his bag and then he ended up using Carter as a number here to switch this whole game up and that's what made this episode so exciting for me. I don't

19:23 Know. I may I'm saying a lot of things here, but what do you think? Can I say though, and may I think I call I don't want to give myself this that much crap. I think I called it very early on like when Lewis is the one to volunteer to go to exile. Yeah. I think that this is the reason why you go to exile because you know when you come back to camp, like when you're on a cast of 21 people, you're going to be missing the first vote and you're going to go like that's just that's obvious game logic. I feel I don't think that anybody really thought anything else was going to happen there. Right. So under that logic, Lewis put himself to a power spot. It is kind of fortunate that he ended up on a tribe that was kind of split. And it was also very fortunate that Carter came along. But

20:11 Even if Carter didn't come along, he still would have been able to choose the alliance that he wanted to go with whether or not it was a split alliance or whether or not it was a you know majority just join the majority and then you can coast in for a few more few more rounds until there's inevitable swab. So I think that I mean Lewis is obviously I think Lewis is playing quite like one of the better games right now because I feel like he is thinking on that level. You saw as soon as he was like looking you know can I add something to this very quickly? I think that some players are great at playing on the bottom and Lewis to me and again it's this is heaping a whole lot of praise on this kid. It's only one episode. We're gonna have to see how he does in the next three, four, five episodes. But he comes across as someone that thrives playing at the bottom, playing with the house on

20:58 Fire. Do you do you get that sort of feeling from Lewis as well? Like it's almost like he does his best work in that moment. I think he was it's all about positioning, right? I feel like he's not necessarily playing he doesn't want to position himself as the biggest threat, right? I don't think that's like that's gameplay from like old school era where you position yourself at the top and then you control an alliance and you can't really do that right now. I feel like you always want to position yourself in a way that you're always going to have power, but you're not overtly having the power. And I feel like this is what Lewis was able to do. Whether or not that comes around and bites on the ass, I don't know. But he could probably just pin it on Carter if it hits the fan. So I think I think his positioning is quite good because he's never going to be sort of upfront to being the alpha that everybody's going to target like a like

21:44 A Brady or a Devin, but he's also not going to be the bottom of the totem pole like a Kilby, right? He's always going to sort of be floating the middle. And I mean there's been a lot of really good players that have played a sim similar game to what I think he's playing, you know, like Rob Cesterino or Johnny Fairplay. you know, there's a there's a kind of a small Yeah, there's a there's a small cast of these players that are able to do that. I don't know if he's going to be able to execute on that, but I feel like if he can, that would be that's kind of like the archetype that we all like, right? That Yeah, that it would be good for the season if he can if he can get that right. And yeah, I was thinking like I wonder how much of like that Irish charm is coming into play here. like you know he's the only one with a different accent playing the game culturally how that's working for him but I think any other player in this I

22:34 Like it for Lewis and I think this is the nuance that like I would have to bring to it like Lewis is the kind of player that can go to Exile Island and come back and ingratiate himself find that split but there's many players that don't have that skill set I think if somebody like Kilby did it in the beginning maybe he the results would have been very different because Kilby isn't as good of a social player like I do like Kilby you know, like if Kilby ever listens to this content. I do like you, Kilby. I think you're one of us. You're a true fan of the show. But sometimes it's hard when you're out there and you think of players as chess pieces in your game. They don't move that way. They've got real emotions. They've all got their own intentions of what they want to do. And Kilby gets found out a little bit in this episode because he talks madmack about Brady being a 5-year-old playing the game like his little brother without the controller. And we do know

23:22 One thing about Brady. Brady does not take insults lightly. Like he wants to go for the kill when that happens. And Kilby gets a bit lucky in this episode in my mind. Like I know you said Theenne was the mastermind of this boat, but if there's no Lewis, if there's no Carter, Kilby's see he's out. He's out of the game. He's at home right now watching the game. So he didn't really see the blind side coming his way. So I'm very interested to know if Kilby can recover from this. What do you think of Kilby's game? Do you think Kilby has the skill set to go back? Because in my mind, I don't know if Lewis and Carter is locked in with this new alliance. There just hasn't been enough of a story for me around this alliance to feel like they're going deep in the game. Like I don't feel like I know The Well. I know Kilby a little bit. I know Lewis a little bit.

24:07 I know Carter. but the other players, we hardly know them. And then one of the other players that are in that tribe had a horrible moment with Brady earlier as well. I forgot what her name was. was it Maggie? Had a horrible moment. So that's the first time I ever saw like the first time we saw her in the game is her just horribly playing that whole advantage situation. We could talk about that separately, but what's your thoughts on Kilby? Can he come back from this? I Kilb's an awful player. I'm sorry. Like what we've seen of Kilbyto complete dodo edit like saying, you know, I can spot a lie from a mile away when they're not lying to just running his mouth to the wrong people. Running his mouth to Pat. I mean, that was just it was terrible gameplay. Like, thank God he had people that I mean, they're not even willing to bat for him. They're willing to bat for themselves.

24:58 And it's like, yeah, number Yeah. If it's like if you if there's a two swing votes, which just so happened to be in the ether of the of the, you know, survivor gods, put them on your tribe and it's four, five, of course they're going to go with the four. Doesn't matter who the four is. And I think actually the fact that he's such a bad player, I think Cart I think it wasn't Carter or it might have been Carter, but it was Lewis and Carter was saying, "Look, the reason why we want to be with the four is because the four are completely fractured and they're just a mess." Whereas the five the five were actually good, like actually decent. If you think about it, they had the advant they had the majority and then all of a sudden Carter comes over and they're like, "Well, we don't have the majority anymore. What are we going to do?" I mean, maybe they weren't maybe they thought they had Lewis and maybe that's really

25:45 Good on Lewis's game. Maybe that's not going to be very good because it's going to blow back on him. But I think for this round, I think that every I feel like everybody but Kilby probably played the best they could possibly have played. Can we go down this line because I love you're cooking right now. You're cooking with gas and your train of thought here. Like you mentioned that Lewis potentially will get a lot of the blowback from that original tribe like and we know that the two tribes are going to meet in the next episode. So there could be a swap, right, coming and I hope it's not. It would be too early for a swap like and Lewis would get lucky in that moment because I agree with you. I think Lewis is the one who's going to feel most of the heat from this alliance that he turned his back on them. I almost feel like this is great for Carter's game because can you really blame the guy who's been in the tribe for like a day, right? He can't like he had to find his feet somewhere. He had to make a move.

26:34 Brady clearly feels like he's got a connection with Carter. He could potentially salvage that. So I feel like Carter, if they had to find someone to work with him, is probably in a better position than a Lewis, right? So I think that Lewis is in the similar position as Carter to be honest because Lewis never pledged his allegiance to anybody. He was never sitting with those five. He never voted with them. He was always being like, you know, I'm the new guy. I'm just trying to like make connections here, guys. That's true. He didn't show his he's he never drew a line in the sand. So now we do know exactly where he's going. I just want to read a couple of comments really quickly here because we are falling behind. Sarah said personally I was laughing and I was just like they should have just let him ride his own name especially with Jeff calling it their game with no rules. I agree like now that they've opened that can of worms with Christian having to

27:22 Vote for himself. Just let people vote for themselves if they want to quit. I'm an uncertainty. Jeff, what are you talking about? I have some certainty that I don't I can't vote for myself. What the hell, Jeff? Yeah, someone that is competitive though. So, that's what we put Brady under. And that's the one thing like Brady seems to take things a bit personal. So, I'm going to be really interested to see how he takes this betray potential. Is he like an Andrew Savage? That's I was thinking about it like kind of like a very self like arranged type of competitive guy maybe. But I feel like he's got a bit more I feel like he's got a little bit more emotional awareness than Andrew Savage. Like I do think he's a bit like he has his own archetype in a lot of ways. Like I feel like Andrew Savage wasn't always like he was just he was like your typical alpha leader kind of guy where

28:08 Brady you could easily escape mistake him as one but he does have Yeah. I mentioned this earlier. I feel like he's more like a Matt from Australian Survive the wrestler guy. I can see that. Yeah. Yeah. because it's like the same sort of wrestler type of archetype. Yeah. Yeah. Willie [clears throat] here saying Lewis this episode is very smart noticing the five person alliance. Lily Smith says I do wonder what's going to happen to Devin's game here on and has he been the key person on this side of things but been on the wrong side of both votes but he also has people on the other tribe. Devin has got such an interesting edit and I do want to talk about Devin's next so I'm going to leave that for a little bit later. Lily Camila saying, "Carter going home from the bottom of one tribe to helping decide the vote on another with such a turnaround. Curious to see if he can hold on to that power." This Camila is

28:57 Why we love Survivor. Th this very moment like of a person being able to like be at the bottom, go over to another tribe, make a decision to stay or make the accident to stay. The thumbnail of this specific live is that he became an accident dental mastermind at the game by missing the boat and then being a part of the most critical vote in the episode. Kilby was clueless and he is too messy from Willie. Lilia is saying with those in Pat's Alliance, I feel like three of the four have a chance to bounce back aka Brady, Devin, and Jelly. I do agree with you. Mike has just been a non- entity at this stage. Maybe he becomes a bigger player down the line. Sarah's saying, "All right, I gotta go. My walk home, no phone on networks and Wi-Fi." Thanks for dropping in, Sarah. We'll see you later.

29:42 Please make sure to check out the rest of the live and let us know your thoughts. Andre, so Devin is the other flip of the coin here. He does go to the other tribe. What's your thoughts on Devin or Devin, I should say, because when I think in episode or two when we started talking about Devin, you didn't really like him that much. But I do kind of like him. Like I feel like he's endearing. like I don't know if the strategy of ultimate honesty is going to work. He's definitely also making mistakes, but he's a complex player because there's certain things that he does that I like and then there's other things that he completely misses where I can see his blind spots in the game. But to me, I'm interested to know what people's thoughts are in regards to a winners pick at the end of this episode because I feel like our winners picks are going to be very different to what it was last week. We had Sharonda Pat who's now gone home and I can't remember. I think Kristin was the other person. I can't remember who the other

30:35 Person was, but there were like three people. I think Yeah, Kristin was one for sure. Yeah. And it was Shund. I would I would be very interested to know if people think Devin has got longevity in this game or not. I feel like from an editing perspective, he's going deep in this game. Like they're following him. There's a clear narrative. There's a story here. He's got alliances on both side. If a swap happens, he ends up with a lot of these people. Th this specific moment in the show couldn't have come at a better time for him. It's six days into the game. he gets to go back to talk to his helicopter alliance and both AI and Sharonda to make sure the things are still good and it seems like they're happy to still play together. Yeah, I mean the helicopter alliance is clearly the alliance of the season. Like they set it up very early on. One of them is already gone. and they're still harping on it. So obviously something is going to happen at the swap or the merge where they're probably going to take control. I wish it

31:27 Wasn't so like telegraph though because it's kind of like it's like, oh yeah, we know that this is going to be a big alliance. It hasn't happened yet, but we know that this they're going to take control or something is going to happen big with them. Otherwise, they wouldn't have sort of focused so much on it. Like I can't think of any other alliance from episode one that they're still talk like even a partnership. You would think there would be a partnership they would focus on in. No, it wasn't any of that. It was a helicopter alliance. They keep on checking in with them every single episode. So, there's something big here. I don't know what is going to happen. They made sure even in the previous episode to say Sharonda and Ori voted in different directions, but they're still tied, you know? Like even Ori gets a confessional this episode to say even though I was out of the vote. I'm not technically out because I knew where the vote was going to go, but I just had my own thoughts about what I wanted to do, you know? So, I agree with you. I

32:16 Think this alliance has got legs in the game. I'm not as cold on it as you. I actually personally don't like it when it's cloak cloaks and daggers and I can't see the strategy and I can't see the connections. I'm happy the show is telling us about it. It might take a little bit of the intrigue out of it. We don't know if anybody from this alliance is going to win. I just want to be clear about it, but we do know that this alliance is going to play a major part in the rest of the season. For all we know, a bolt-on person to this alliance like a Kristin or someone like a Brady could still win this season. Like they're both still getting very good edits. like Kristin is getting every single episode we're checking in with her. Brady is a big Yeah, she's a big like Brady's a big character this season. So, I definitely think that there is some longevity for other players or potential other players that

33:01 Could win. But clearly, yeah, even in the Helicopter Alliance, like the edits are not equal. Like Devin has obviously had something every single episode and Aie, I've noticed that Aie and also Jelly, I mean Jelly to a lesser degree, but Aie has been very present as well. like he's been actually very lowkey present where it's like you don't really notice him until he's like talking. but it's like then it's weird then we don't really get much from Sharonda this episode and Jelly. It's like Jelly just seems like her entire story seems to be related to Aie or like there's some sort of connection there which we haven't really seen too much of because they haven't been on tribe, right? So yeah, it's an interesting mix of people. I like and I do agree with you. I think Devin's probably long for this game, but I don't know if it's for the right reasons. I don't know if it's because he's a good game player or if it's

33:52 Because he's a good character. He's a good character. I've yet to game play. He's charismatic. He's charismatically wrong. He always loses out on the vote, doesn't he? Like, am I does he does, but you and I have had this conversation before. I don't think that being wrong. I've got a very strong belief about every season. Every season I say this, I've got a very strong belief that anything that happens premerge doesn't really matter at the end. People have got short-term memory. the people who matter, the ones when you merge, the ones that are going to be on the jury, they're the ones ultimately that's going to decide who wins the game, right? So, I do think that very few times have I seen a jury go back to well, you know, in day three you were horrible. Like I know that it happened with Chris Dory and his season. There was a big thing

34:38 About him nearly like losing every single challenge in the beginning or losing that first challenge. Yeah, exactly. There was a big thing made out of that. But outside of that, I don't think we I feel like people have got short-term memory. I don't think they look back at Devin being out of these two votes and it's going to But where I do agree with you though is that is his honesty going to bite him in the butt because we've already seen Jelly not fully trusting him with the information that she's got an idol, you know, and I do think that the more AI and Sharonda actually plays with Devin I was thinking about this when AI put a lot of stake in Devin being so honest about the advantage that he found in the game, right? But honesty or like information like you said is power and it builds trust, but it only builds trust if you're the only one that knows about it. It weakens when you tell everybody about things, right? You know, like you don't want to know the truth or the secret of something if that same person is going to go tell it for everyone. Is

35:30 He really loyal to me? Is he really giving me the inside scoop? I don't know. And I think that's kind of what Jell's picked up in this game that she has to be careful in how she manages him. And I do think Ori and Sharonda will find that out in time. Yeah. Well, the rubber will meet the road eventually with Devin. And I think that's what they're building up to. Like I think it's going to be more of like a kind of a coach storyline where he's trying to pose himself as a as a trutht teller, right? And eventually the whole idea of the helicopter alliance and his undying loyalty to that clearly that's the story they're trying to tell. And then that's eventually gonna conflict with his alliances that we he has with like a Brady, right? And he's gonna have to lie to somebody. And it'll

36:16 I think this will be a big moment in the season where, you know, Devin has to lie to somebody. He can't he has to make a decision. And I think that's probably the story that they're trying. Maybe it's maybe the story is kind of like the downfall of Devin or something like that. that's I'm not I'm not low on Devin yet. Like I do think that he still has longevity in this game. I don't know if we're gonna, but you could be right. It could be he loves to use the word words that Kilby is planting seeds in the game, right? So maybe production is planting seeds in the game of his downfall in the future being his honesty, something that will pay off at the merge at some stage and it will make sense to us as the audience as to why he is taken out by his own alliance at some point. I can see that as a potential in his future. another thing about Devin that's quite interesting and we don't see a lot of the dynamics at the

37:04 Challenge before the challenge and how they organize who's going to do what, but Kilby was quite keen and as a game designer to be on the puzzle, right? And for me personally, if I'm playing this game, unless like they wanted to throw it for some other reason, I want to have my best people be at the right, you know, place within the challenge. Like for instance, puzzles I'm hit and miss. Like I don't want to be the one doing the puzzle. put me on the physical side, but you know, maybe if I've got someone like Dino in my game who literally designs, you know, for Survivors of Africa, for those who don't know, who literally designs escape rooms, right, and is someone that understands game mechanics, like that's maybe somebody that's good at puzzles, I want to put him at the puzzle, right? So, I found it very interesting here that Kilby and Devin have that conversation afterwards where Kilby's like, you know, I wanted to do it, but you didn't give me the chance because

37:52 Devin in some ways is also a leader and he is quite certain of his decisions, but it's not always shown to be right. So, I think that points out again to you, Andre, maybe not depending on what his goal was, if he wanted to throw this challenge or not, but they end up like throwing away an 117 lead. Now, that's going to be 10-7 in regards to the numbers in the two tribes after this. and they've been in such a strong position up until this point. So I don't really know what the thinking was. I don't know if you've got any thoughts on that, but clearly they messed up by putting the wrong people on the puzzle. Well, Devin's advocate. So Kilby is clearly not the leader. Like he doesn't it doesn't seem like he has agency in the context of who do we who are we going to put into the into the challenge. So if like he'll be with obviously he was in trouble like he was

38:38 He should have exerted as whatever authority or whatever agency he had said guys no I'm like I need to be in this and it's like you would probably be willing to risk pretty much your entire social capital to do that at least and it's like you can't you kind of can't have it both ways. can't be like look I don't want to make any decisions and I don't want to because I don't want to have the blowback from the decisions but then also be like look like you should have picked me. It's like no step up and say I'm going to do this no matter what and if you don't like it I'll take the full responsibility for it. but I feel like he was just kind of trying to hedge and it's by the time he was complaining about it which he shouldn't have complained about u because then you're just using social capital for no good

39:24 Reason. He should have just like just say, "I'm gonna do this right now." If he really truly thought that he was in trouble, right? I don't know if at that stage he knew he was in trouble or he was in trouble. No, he seemed he seemed he seemed really confident in the episode that he was going to get one up on Devin and he was like, "No, he didn't want to." It was very weird like he This was another thing that's worth discussing like when Kilby went to people to try and get the vote on the Fab Five, right? He had to navigate with people around Devin. And maybe we aren't giving enough credit for Devin's social game because there were certain people in that alliance who didn't want to go for Devin. The didn't want to go for Devin. the lady who had the horrible gameplay which we haven't spoken about yet. forgot her name. Maggie. Maggie didn't want to go for Devin. She was like very adamant.

40:11 No, Devin is good. I like Devin. I don't want to. He's She said Devin was one of her no non-negotiables. Right. So there's clearly alliance. Brady was also a non-negotiable too. A non-negotiable which they were like there was like three people they didn't want to go for. Yeah. Yeah. So he Kilby really had to compromise and find someone else in the game, but he was quite confident that the blind side was going to come. He was confident in his relationship with Brady, which again Brady did a good job to mask that he was upset with Kilby in this moment. So, yeah, there's some interesting dynamics in the show. This is why Survivor could be two hours long and it would still be a fascinating show to watch because we would see so much of these connections that we just don't see in an hour episode or an hour and a half. I don't know how long it was this week, but yeah, interesting dynamics. Lily Smurf here is saying, "I don't know if this will

40:58 Happen, but I feel maybe premerge after episode 3 will be like Cook Island where the bigger tribe goes to the rest of the premerge tribal councils." I don't remember that. Oh, no. No. Yeah. Yeah. So remember it was the it was the Aussie, Ule, Sandra and Becky and then basically it was like four to four to eight and then it's just like but I mean they were kind of helped out a little bit by production and they said hey you know there's the u the message in the bottle twist. but going back to your point about sort of like not throwing the challenge, but maybe sandbag the challenge a little bit, specifically when you have 11 members, like there is a little bit of dead weight for you to like if you're in any alliance, there's some dead weight to get rid of, right? yeah. And this and this pro this protood because you're never truly like the only vote that they've gone to the Fab

41:49 Five didn't even vote together. They voted in different directions. So, they only became tight after the first vote, right? so they've never really tested their allegiance to each other until by the way, wasn't like wasn't Pat like really on board with Jenna and then all of a sudden they're just like just on opposite ends and it's just like it's just an that's why we like big tribes because there's room to maneuver. If this was like season 40 41, sorry, it just Yeah. Shan and Ricard and then like some other person. It's just like interesting. Yeah, it's boring. It's like it's the groups are set, you know, and it's also for players, they've got less choice to change their mind like, you know, like there were times where Shan and Ricard knew that they probably shouldn't work together or they like if they were in bigger tribes, who knows if they would have stuck together as long

42:36 As they did in that game, right? Because they there were there were fundamentally things that they differed on, but they were playing with some other people in the game that they clearly couldn't play with. So, they were forced into an alliance together, you know? So, that makes it less interesting. But I did want to talk about the Maggie thing that happened here with Brady with them getting the ore opening it the whole advantage. Firstly, do you think Brady did the right thing giving it to Maggie? And how did you think Maggie dealt with this situation? So maybe this is also the reason by the way why Maggie didn't want to go for Brady because he built some good favor with her where she's like I clearly can play with this guy but she felt really desperate in that moment. If I was Brady, I would have been like, "Why is she so desperate to have this rather than trusting me with it?" You know, kind of thing. I don't know. It was a bit of an awkward bit of gameplay from her there. I actually think it's

43:24 A good a good move for Brady to give up the I don't like the way that he did it where he needed a bit of a convincing. If you're going to give it up, just like be super graceful about it. Like I feel like Tommy from item Idol Island of the Idols, right? What would Tommy have done? Right? Like he's famous for never having any advantage, for just playing really well socially. And I feel like that seems to be a little bit about how Brady is playing. Brady seems to be like he doesn't show like he shows emotions on his sleeve but that is very disarming because when he doesn't when he hides that he's upset with Kilby takes it to the bank because it's

44:09 Like oh I would know if Brady was going after me. I think that's lowkey very good gameplay for Brady because someone like Brady wouldn't play well with advantages in my opinion. I think his major strength is his social game. even though he's a little bit brashid sometimes, it seems like that was a good move because that probably saved his ass. this episode he doesn't need an extrovert. No, like people get voted off with extroverts all the time. It's like there's a very small It's not It's not a good really that good of an advantage really, especially if people know that you have it. So I thought I thought it's actually relatively The only thing he could have done better is like given it away faster and be like, yeah, it would have been different if this was it was again if it would have been different if this was a sixperson tribe, right? You're not giving away a two vote advantage in a six person

45:00 Tribe, but in a tribe of 11 people or 10 people, you've got some room to maneuver and you can outstrategize it. You can out social the game. And I do think that it did gain. So from Brady's perspective, great gameplay. I agree with you. I was more looking at it from her gameplay like that she was so desperate for this advantage. If I was Brady, I would have been like, "Does she really trust me? Does she really want to work with me in this moment?" Because she's so desperate to get this and I get her hands on it, right? So, you came across as quite panicky. I disagree. And I think the reason is because at that stage they didn't know if Carter would stay or not. So, if you look at the lay of the land, it would have been five to four. Having the extra vote in that sense probably would have been pretty important to be like let's but it's like how does the extra vote work? Do you get the extra vote on a on if it's a tie? Because that I think that changes the equation quite a bit where it's like oh if it's if you keep

45:53 The vote and you can force a tie that actually is probably for that specific case is actually quite important I feel. Yeah. like give me the extra I can force at least I could force a tie and you know all else being equal. it's that'll go home essentially because they didn't know like even with Lewis it's just like we can't trust Lewis right so yeah I think maybe yeah at least try to force a tie or at least say look I'm going to force a tie Lewis come over with us we're going to be a sort of we're going to be tight and then we can get rid of the other side. So I think in that in that stage it's that was that was defensible but you shouldn't have given away the given away the machete t like just have your cake and eat it too. Just like you can't have your cake and eat it too. Just go for it.

46:39 Like don't give your agency away to Brady. Yeah. But yeah, just funny to see her try and chop up the orb with the machete. She was struggling and then you get Brady coming there just with one hit. And I found it hilarious again that clearly Brady is that kind of person that would try and make a square peg fit a round hole or round hole. Yeah, like you know what I mean? Like it's the most obvious thing is you probably don't have to ruin your ore so you can't use your boat. There's probably something it's clearly in the rope or it's clearly like hidden inside like the handle or something like that. So now they've got to like they've destroyed their oes and they can't go into the water. Like it's just hilarious the way that it was like I'm just going to force my way like you know through this thing and it's how Brady does everything at 200%. But I've got a couple of questions I wanted to ask you here. So first one is going to be who played the best game this episode Andre.

47:28 Do you think that Lewis Carter Devin or the ended? Is there someone else that we're missing? It was Lewis 100%. Like Lewis had the like he we focused on him like looking like should we should we do this? And the really great thing about Lewis is like he didn't do it himself. He like went in and he sort of like he's like, "Should we do this?" And I think he even got somebody else to do it. I was like, "Oh, look through the bag." So that was pretty. Then he went around and he and he got an alliance with Carter and I think he was the one that actually said to Carter, "No, we need to be the ones to take control of this game." 100% it was him. And this is going back to my theory with him is I think that he set this up. Like I when he when he said, "Hey, I want to be the one on exile." Like I

48:13 Think that was his gameplay and I don't begrudge him. I thought that was I like that. I like I want to see people that do stuff like that. Yeah. So very interesting I think with Lewis also that like I said he seems to be someone who understands this game fundamentally. He immediately wanted to look in the bag. He's always scheming. He's always trying to be two three steps ahead. He's the kind of player that we like to root for. at least I do, you know. And so it's exciting to see him this episode take a bit of control here in this tribe and for the underdog group to topple the Fab Five who looked like they were going to be in power for the majority of this premerge if there was no not going to be a swap you know so that was good to see. the next question that I have for you Andre is like who do you think damaged their position in the game the most here? you know if we weren't to

49:01 Go and swap into different tribes in the next episode who's in the worst position after this vote? Ah, I mean the answer to your first question was like was definitely Kilby. He played awfully. But actually going into if we go into a swap next episode, he's still in a bad position because of the work that Devin did on the other tribe to say Kilby shouldn't be trusted. He plants seeds. He spreads lies and misinformation. Like I think Kilby is in a pretty bad position if a swap happens. But if a swap doesn't happen, if swap doesn't happen. Okay. Yeah. Look, I mean, if you're in the majority, if you're in the five, in the new five, you're probably going to be sticking together. At least get rid of someone else. Like, get rid of a Maggie or get rid of a I mean, Mike's name. Mike. Yeah. Yeah.

49:48 Yeah. I think actually Mike is probably the worst off. not just from an editing point of view, but he dodged a bullet by that by a hair. He's clearly very closed off to the other side as well. And he's kind of like I think what they're seeing on the island is kind of what we're seeing at home. It's like kind of like what who is Mike? Like what does he what exactly does he do apart from just hang around with those five? So I think yeah, maybe he's kind of in the worst position because at least Devin and Brady is definitely [clears throat] in a very strong position. Even though he's on the wrong side of the votes, I feel like the other side are kind of like we can pull in Brady if we want to and Devin's just being devious. so he's just like I think he's still like people don't really want to get rid of him. He's very charming like you said. So, I was like those two are kind of like and not to hedge myself too much, but like Maggie didn't do herself any favors either by

50:38 Giving herself an extra vote and just being a little bit you know, he did she didn't even vote with Brady and Brady says you vote with me and she's like, "Yeah, sure. I'll vote with you." And he she doesn't vote with him. It's like Brady's going to be a little upset about that. Yeah. I mean, Brady definitely takes things personally, so it's going to be interesting to see how he takes that after this episode. But little Smurf here. Smurfy here says Lewis has the best for this episode 100%. If I had to say a number two, possibly Anne or Brady with an since she's the one who threw Pat's name out and pushed for her pushed her if anything. And I think it was a good I will say it was the right read by the end because I do think that Pat, we spoke about it. She had that Nicole Vulmmans from Survivor South Africa who was a winner kind of vibe to her where socially she would just do really good and would be able to

51:29 Ingratiate herself into any kind of like tribe that she potentially was sort of could it be could because I've been saying for a while she's a very messy player like she runs her mouth she reports back I think on the first episode there were like she had the tribal council incident she also ran back information on the first episode happened again this episode was she paying too messy. Did she need to do that much? Did she need to be such a rat or should she the play? Exactly. I think the story that Theanne told the camera when she said I need to go for Patt was because she believed that Theanne was too good socially. She said that if there was a any kind of swap, she would be able to get into the numbers on the other side really quickly and that's a threat to her game. I think

52:15 Theen was pretty clear about that. That was her motivation. I can't speak for all of the other people who were happy to jump on board, but at least that was the end. Well, to be to be like to be critical to take a stance on her. Was she really even that good socially if people had that opinion of her? Yeah. Like surely the people that are good socially are the people that don't get targeted like that. Yeah. It's like maybe she's overrated. Like Devin because Devin had a few people who said like even though they weren't in the Fab Five, they're like we can't go for Devin. Like Devin is a non-negotiable. which is interesting to me. okay. So, the next one here is I wanted to know from you, what do you think with Carter? Do you think that the mutiny this week for him was a genius move, luck, or was it incompetence that ultimately made him stay at the tribe?

53:03 Either was it's incompetence. Like, I mean, when I was seeing this and he's like, he got an opportunity to mute it. You mute me straight away. Just go. Like, Carter, you are the one to do this. So, I think he was actually going to go back to his tribe. I think he what he wanted to do is he wanted to get the clue and then go back to his tribe because better the devil, you know, right? I think it's a horrible move. Like I just stay and just do your thing. Yeah, it was always going to be a bad move because in a big tribe like that, he was going to be the new person. People were going to Similar to your theory with Lewis, you come in late. Yes, you can take out the easy target if they're very unified. But in these big tribes, I think the chances of a tribe being unified is a lot less. like we haven't seen it play out that way for many seasons and there's so many seasons where big two tribes go up against each other where tribes do splinter

53:53 Very early on and he had an idol so at least he could have he could have guaranteed himself but the one thing that he does know for a fact is where he's coming from nobody wants to play with him he's not in any alliance and he knows what the social dynamics is there so now you get the opportunity to make friends on the other side and I do have a theory with Carter that at some point if he gets merged or swap back in some of his previous tribe, they may still want to work with him because it's just, you know, the known entity aspect of it. At least Carter was loyal to the people he was loyal to until he lost them in the game, right? And you could play with someone like that. You can say, "Hey, I know we weren't on the same boat in the original tribe, but you were loyal to the people you were with. I want that loyalty. I will be loyal to you. Come here. I've got a home for you." So, I do think this gives Carter where he would have just been that easy consensus vote.

54:38 He now has one or two rounds where he can go back and the best thing of all is he didn't have to play his idol this last episode which is phenomenal for Carter. Does anybody know he has an idol or do they only know that about the because I assume the idol was sort of deep in his bag or he had it on his person. So, they probably don't even know about the idol yet. And I don't think he told anybody, which is that puts him to a very powerful position because I think he's like he's the only person that has like a hidden advantage, which is Yes. pretty important, especially if it's like a full powered idol. That's good. You can you can do a lot with that. Yeah. was Pat the correct target or was there a bigger play to make here this episode? I think Patt was probably the right target. I mean really I think the correct target I think that Brady is such a

55:28 Boisterous personality and I feel like he's actually better socially than we think he is. I think he's probably the best target because he's like the person that sets the agenda of the tribe. Even if he doesn't have power, he's still going to set the agenda. I think if you know that there's going to be a swap coming up, which I don't know if they know that or not or if they think there's going to be a swap. you probably get I feel like you probably get rid of Brady. you probably keep Devin for Devin for now. but I would I would have tried to go but you don't have the social cowboy get rid of Brady. I feel like too many people want Brady on the on the season. So really it's between Patt and Mike and it's clearly I'm gonna vote out Pat. Like Mike seems to be a non- entity for now. Yeah. Now, if we had to look at this episode and if we took out of the

56:17 Equation purple to a large degree, because I feel like we didn't really see enough of them, and there's probably still few contenders from that. Like we said, AI potentially could still win. Kristin could still be in the winning side of things. We still have Sharonda in there. Sharonda, I feel like Sharonda, it depends on if we go by the Survivor 41 to 50 edit for a winner, which was from 42 to 50, a winner has always had a confessional every single episode. I don't know if Sharonda had a confessional this episode. That might take her out of the running if that is what they're doing, but we don't know if the open era is going to be the same. I wouldn't say we've seen enough for like I wouldn't exclude her because I wouldn't put it past the editors to say we're doing something different this season. So, she

57:02 Probably is still in the running just by virtue of where her connections is in the game. And we did still see a very important moment with her and Devin talking and catching up to solidify the helicopter alliance. So, I feel like she was at least still visible and on our screens. Yes. Yes, you're right. You're right. Actually, now that you say that, I completely for some reason I thought that was Jelly, but yeah. No, you're right. It's Sharonda. Yeah. So Sharonda, I wouldn't take like I would say Sharonda, AI, and Kristin would still be my winner picks for purple. I don't know if you've got your eyes on anybody else that I didn't mention in that group. Do we do we did we ever think that Eric had a chance or is this just like a I don't think Eric is winning. No, I think Eric I think Eric is like I still think Eric, by the way, has really bad reads. like he's like, "Oh,

57:50 My social game and I've made so many good friends and like if you open your heart to people, they will, you know, come and fight for you and get you forward in the game." But I don't really think that's what it was. There was It could be Andy and him though. I think feel like Andy had some upside. I think that Andy could have won. I think for the same way that Andy like Andy could have won, I feel like Eric could win. I mean, that's probably a hot take. maybe. Yeah. But no, but to be honest with you, it's not a bad take because Andy was exactly the same. In the beginning of the season, I said, "There's no chance this guy could win." And you're right, as the season went on, he became more and more of a force in the game. And it could still be the case for Eric. But it's just something like an Emily type of edit, too. Yeah. There's just something about Eric that makes me think, no, he doesn't have the social skills. Like, he's reading the situation completely wrong.

58:41 But then again, who knows? I like if we if we want to put him as like a potential fourth definitely in there I think he's more like you know he starts off rough then he becomes to his own he gets voted off like fifth or fourth or something like that. It's probably the most likely thing. Yeah. Yeah. Or he could he could still have a run and get to the merge and fall out somewhere around the merge. I do think he's got some safety in the sense that he voted with the power group in that tribe, right? So maybe they'll keep him around for a little bit. But then again, I do think Eric is actually in a bit of danger again over there because now that they don't have Carter, if they don't swap tribes, like who are they going to vote out? Like who's an easy vote? Like a lot of people were annoyed by Eric to begin with and I don't think it's a social game that saved them to be honest. I really don't think it was that. It was just that there was a bigger strategic there was a bigger target at play. He thinks it's a

59:30 Social game. I could still see him getting voted out in the next round if it's not for a swap where they feel like they need to work with him from a numbers perspective. A lot of people were annoyed by him. Like Rob in particular seemed to be annoyed by him, but by the end came around to him. So I think it's kind of like the Rizzo Annie type of archetype where it's like this person's really annoying. Turns out they're really Sharonda did say quite a few times that he's annoying, but I'll work with him. She did say that. So I do think that, you know, Sharonda's there. Ari did vote against him. Ori Sharonda can still work together. I don't think he's as safe. I just yeah for the more I think about it for me personally I wouldn't put him in a top three position now like it doesn't mean that his position can't change in the game he's definitely not a top three I'm

1:00:16 Thinking like maybe top five something yeah so that's the purple side which is less exciting this week because we didn't get to see too much about the tribe dynamics on that side it was very much we didn't see much of them who did we see like who were the ones that were the main characters on that side when they weren't relevant because I think that will tell us a lot about who might be the ones that win cuz it's like yeah or who have longevity and I think we kind of mentioned all of them like so we saw Sharonda we saw we saw Ori got an actual confessional but we had to have seen Sharonda in that scene there was like there's no way we wouldn't have seen Sharonda of course and I could and it could still be it could still be more relevant just to the alliance and the storytelling but Ory did get a confessional and Eric did get a confessional and Carter got confessionals which is obvious because he ended up being a big part of the

1:01:04 Episode so I do think that They're definitely up there, but I do want to move because I'm less interested on the purple side. We will have more clarity on that tribe in the next episode when you know either they go to tribal council or they swap into different tribes. What I'm really interested to know about is the yellow tribe. Do we have winner potential in the yellow tribe because we saw a lot of how they work. We saw what was going on here. if you had to pick a top three in the yellow side, who are they right now? All right, this might be a hot take. I think Lewis I think Lewis has had a clear This is what I was saying. Do you want to be the Do you want to be the main character of your season or do you want to be in the background? Lewis, I don't know about Devin. I think story-wise, I think I could see Devin winning, but gameplay-wise, I'm not 100% sure. What would a Devin win do to Survivor? Like, if the honesty, you need to be honest, this is the strategy.

1:01:58 Would people start looking at Devin's game and be like, "Oh, wow. This is a way to play." Would that be good or bad? The only way for Devin to win is for Devin to say, "I'm going to be honest to everybody, but lie to everybody." I think that's the way that you win. I think that would be really good if he's just like, "I'm going to be truthful to everybody." I get to the merge and he's like, "Okay, the pre merge was all about making people fakeely believe that I'm always going to be honest. Now I'm going to play devilish Devin. I'm going to play the devious side of my game." Yeah, that'd be exciting. I would love to see that. Okay. So you've got Who else? Jelly. And is anybody else? I mean, did confessional episode? Did she actually get I think she did. We saw we saw her talk. We saw her, but I don't know if she got She's always talking, but it's like she's The reason I think that it's her cuz she always seems to have a

1:02:50 Confessional when it's not relevant to the story. Whereas I feel like somebody like a Jenna, if we had seen more of Gemma, Jenna, she would have been number one on my list because it's like the first two episodes really focused on her and all of a sudden she won out on the votes and we don't see anything of her. Like I that to me that doesn't make any sense. Yeah. So I it's I can't think of anybody else. I'm completely hon. So, for me personally, I think I'm not as low on Devin as you are. I think Devin has got upside. I do think like I can see all the flaws that you're pointing. Yeah, I can see all the flaws that you're pointing out, but I think storytelling wise like he's got to be in the three to potentially win. I think

1:03:36 Lewis would be Lewis or Carter for me would be one of the two most exciting wins that we could see this season. Like it would just be a Hail Mary. Can you imagine? Like I mean it was it was interesting with was it Brady who said that Carter reminded him of JT and you've got to be care was Mike. Mike said it. He said he reminds him of JT and you got to be careful of that Salvin charm. Right. So it's interesting that he mentioned that because clearly Carter does have a bit of that social game but he's playing in a bad position right now. So I can't see him winning. I would say Lewis Aarta would be exciting. But let's say Lewis Devin and yeah I would put Brady in there. I'll put Brady in there as a potential story of Brady. Yeah, I just feel like Brady is too big of a character. Like they're trying to show him before he gets inevitably voted off probably first boot after the merge. I feel Yeah, I would love Brady to win. That would be very entertaining.

1:04:28 I just don't see how he gets Does Brady become like a like a premerge boot? Like the last boot, the person you take out just before you get into the merge because you don't want to go up against them in challenges by the time that the merge hit. I think you I think you do. Yeah. I think that he's going to have too big of a target. Then again, he I feel like he's actually fairly good socially. Like he's probably one of the better social players. Like surprisingly, cuz he just seems to be like, you know, he was able to go against Devin on in the vote, but they're still like best mates. He was able to hide his displeasure at Kilby. people seem to like if you notice the entire the four kept on was it the four or was it the six the inclusive of dev Carter? No. The other the other the other four plus two, they kept on relaying back the information going, "Oh, no. It's not Mike anymore. It's

1:05:19 Actually it's actually Yeah, they thought he was that is that is pretty impressive socially. Like I know he's sort of portrayed as bit of a doofus, but there's a little bit of substance there in my opinion." Yeah. So, I think Brady, you make me feel even stronger about it. Brady's definitely got a shot if he can survive the premerge boot and if he can still find like if he still has some numbers with him like you know can Devin continue to how tight is that Devin Brady relationship because we've also been shown a lot about that right so there's the helicopter alliance but Devin's clearly got is there anybody else that has got as strong of a connection right now as Devin and Brady have even though they didn't vote together the edit made sure to tell us these guys are actually tight they like working together the helicopter alliance. I think they are they're the connections to I mean I made

1:06:08 The comparison to the cookout in Big Brother and I think that will hold. I think that this is the exact blueprint where you've got four members of the Yep. Aie, Sharonda, Jelly, Devin. Each of them are going to have a number one Tristan and for instance. Exactly. And then what you do is you basically work from and then you basically get your partner to take out somebody that they're close with essentially and then you whittle it down to the final A. Then you whittle down to the final four. That would be pretty interesting strategically. I don't know if it will happen, but I mean that's the way the edit is showing it in my opinion. I tell you what, I didn't have it focused on that. I tell you what, I didn't have it on my bingo cart when I saw the cast photos come out that Brady would be one of the people that I would be the strongest on for [laughter] winning the season. like

1:06:54 He just when first impressions you don't think like this guy's going to be playing but you're right he is playing a very smart game. would he be like a social more social less strategic Tony? Could. Yeah. And you know why it's quite a like he doesn't he's not all about the advantages. So that part is clearly different. But where I do see similarities with him and Tony is Brady seems to be one of those people that he his emotions and his excitability or whatever you would call it sometimes gets the better of him in the game. And like even with like Maggie, his first instinct was not to give it to her, but then he corrects himself. So he's got this ability to go like really hard and then say, "Hey guys, sorry I went over the top here a little bit." So he's got a lot of awareness and I think Tony did that in some ways as well where sometimes he would make life difficult for himself in the day. He would think about in the night and then his social game would bring it back in the next day. And I feel like I see a little bit of that

1:07:43 In the way that Brady is playing. But I would say in some ways he's maybe even socially stronger than Tony at this stage in the game. It's very early on because Tony did it over two games because I feel like Tony was very good like Fabio and that was the reason why he was such a threat and they tried to get him out so often is because he was good socially. He had the jury. Yeah. But he never had control and Brady's got control in the game like oh and he lost control this episode but he's got people wanting to work with him and wanting him and on the vote and I don't feel like Fabio was always Fabio was always the last person in on anything like you know so that's like the only thing you would have to like so that's why to come back I think it was Little Smurfy who said it apologies if it was someone else. he is kind of a new archetype and it's very hard to find or a new kind of player like it's hard

1:08:32 To find 51 seasons in a player that is puzzling like this but then we've got a few players like that this season like Devin as well is a completely new player from what we've seen I feel like is it a hot take to say that the winner that he's most like is David Gennapat could you see that could you see that and again I know where you're coming from but the Socially probably. Yes. Socially I actually can completely see it. But I feel like David actually David in his first season. Yes. Yes. Yes. Not the second because second season he was a lot more calculated about you know making blunders up front but the first season he did make some blunders. But I do think the one difference that he has to David is he is more aware of the errors that he's making even in his first season. Like he's rectifying it quicker where

1:09:21 David never really knew until it was too late. Yeah. Yeah. Well, that's what that's kind of what where I'm getting at. David didn't win his first season, right? True. You can be as social as you want, but like if you're gonna be boisterous and bad and that's what David to his credit, he sort of second season he sort of scaled that back. He was only boisterous in confessionals, not to other people. So maybe Brady needs to figure that out a little bit before he could it be that Brady is the future host of Survivor, similar to David Gnut following in the footsteps. What a what a what a legacy. You know, you've got David Gut becoming the host of Australian Survivor, and then potentially you've got Brady, the host of Survivor, whatever it's going to be called from 61 onwards. So, do we think that Brady's the one that Jeff was talking about now? Cuz I can't think of anyone else. Like Devin, maybe. I don't know. Like I feel like Devin is like an acquired taste. Yeah.

1:10:12 I can't think of any like I can think I can actually think of Brady. He's such an excitable guy. Like I feel like he get like I don't know. Like it'd be quite funny to see it's be a completely different direction. You've got this big probably think about it. Yeah, [laughter] because you have to have someone with like a big personality. Like who else at this stage has that personality that could carry a show like Survivor? I don't know who's got it. Devin is the only one that I can think of. U but I just I don't know if Devin is like the person that Jeff would have had in mind. It's just like I feel like he would be good as a host of another show, but specifically Survive. I'm not entirely sure. I just don't see it. Yeah, we've got to we've got to get people to let us know in the comments below after they've watched this live. Who do they think is that person? We've got three episodes in now. We're still on the lookout for who the future host of Survivor might be from this season because Jeff was impressed

1:11:01 By one of the players. you know, I think he might have said it tongue and cheek, but we're taking it quite literally here. And we are looking to see who potentially could take over from Jeff in season 61 if he did decide to retire. But again, another great episode by Jeff. Jeff did not insert himself into the game. I love the fact that Jeff was giving it back to Rob quite a lot and he wasn't letting Rob get out of this moment. Like he did it in a very classy way. Like all Jeff would have told him, you know, that he's disappointed and I want him. Yeah, you're an embarrassment. You know, he would have told him, "You're an embarrassment." But he did it still in a very nice way. but he still let Rob know that, you know, we're not pulling him. Rob wants to take himself out of the game even though we think that there's absolutely no risk for him to stay, you know. So he didn't let him go. Can you imagine if Brady was the host?

1:11:46 And then I literally lost a thumb in this game and you're quitting because of a small little scratch on your foot. Yeah, that would be that would be TV. That would be in Risg God's words. A absolute cinema. That would be cinema. Andre, I think we have reached the end of the podcast here. Unless there's anything else that you wanted to talk about for this week. I think that's it. I can't think of anything else. It's I mean it's been a good season so far. hopefully episode 4 I feel like has to right. I feel like they've learned so many good lessons from the new era. There's new management clearly. I will put my faith in. I will I'll put faith in Jeff. maybe it's going to come around and bite me. I don't care. I'm just going to ride the high as far as we possibly can possibly can.

1:12:33 Yeah. Well, I hope that again, I don't know if you have you been listening to other podcasters. It's hard sometimes when you podcast yourself to do that because you don't want to take their ideas or thoughts into it. But have you been sort of keeping up to date with what other people are? Yeah. What's the general consensus from the bigger channels out there? Are they as positive as we are? Are they making some of these same points like Jeff being less involved, the players having actual more agency in the game? These are things that we want to see like because hopefully Jeff is getting some of this feedback to him somehow. Yeah, I mean it's been pretty it's been very positive. I've been listening to Eden's podcast. Love him. Nice. Mil Buffs is pretty good. And obviously Rob has a podcast. I'm finding I'm listening to Rob has a podcast less and less these days.

1:13:18 Just because there's so much so much content now, but I try to sort of go and sort of distribute. You know what we should do? I actually I'm connected to Eden. I'll see if I can if I can get him to come on and like maybe that'll be cool. Like I'm not saying that it will definitely happen, but if he's got time and our time sinks, that could be cool to hear his thoughts. I actually did a exit interview with Eden. For those who don't know, he's an Australian survivor player, great Australian survivor player. I actually did an excellent interview that I think went for two hours. It was one of the longest exit interviews I ever did. for any player on the channel and for anybody who's interested in that, you can go check it out on the nullified tech channel as well. He was great to talk to. so yeah, I definitely need to find the time to do that, but I've also just this week started a new job, Andreas. I'm like, yes,

1:14:04 You know, heavily into learning a completely new industry and getting to grips of everything, which is exciting, but yeah, I've got to find the time to get more content. At the moment, all my content is more related to the field of what I'm going into. But it's been exciting first week. Yeah. Well, it's shout out to Eden's podcast. like I think definitely deserves more viewers for sure because their stuff is him and his brother. Very good stuff. but yeah. Yeah, I'm looking forward to the rest of the season and you're growing your channel too. Awesome. Well, thanks everyone in the live for checking it out. Lil Smurf, Sarah, Willie, Camila, whoever else was in the live here, Christian. Really appreciate you guys. always great to talk to you. For those that are checking it out at a later stage, please hit the

1:14:51 Like, comment below. we're also starting to put little shorter 10-minute clips here and there of the podcast on the channel. just as a different way to see if we can find a different audience here. So, if you do resonate with it, even if you've seen the live, click on it, share it with people who you know that love Survivor. Funny enough, Andre, at this new company that I'm working at, there are some Survivor fans there, which is quite refreshing. You don't come across that very often. Like I had a Slack message from our chief of staff asking me, "What's your top five seasons of all time for Survivor?" And I've never had that happen to me at work before. So that was pretty cool to talk a little bit about that with people at work as well. For me, it's always people that I put onto Survivor. I'm like, you got to watch a show. Yeah, it's so it's so rare that you find other people that actually are into the show as well, especially at a place like work. But hey everybody,

1:15:37 Thank you so much for your time. please check us out next week again. Same time, same place. But for now, grab your torches, head back to camp. We will catch up with you next week. Bye.
