0:00 And welcome back to day eight of Survivor 46 and 46 I just finished watching Survivor Allstars Amber has just won and has started years worth of debate on who deserved to win this season I'm going to jump ahead of that and say that what Charlie said during the finale a couple weeks ago is true with me and always has been if you win you win who cares what a bunch of jabronies at home have to say about how you won today we joined by for the first time on this channel Emily hi glad be working with you again and creator of Survivor bookland South and a what's what would be a good word Survivor Sant a a pillar of the live Survivor Community George so getting right into it and I just I want to start off how I went with marus of I understand that there's a lot of people that hate Boston Rob and that love Boston Rob for me Rob's always been I've always been more of a I like Rob I understand Rob I get it and especially this time around especially watching it like this and watching the Rob's

1:20 Final words at the end of Marquees where he says you know I was I was playing a game I hope no one takes it personally I would love to be friends with these people afterwards and I think that is a great segue going into this season because Rob does come into the season being friends with a lot of these folks and a lot of these folks came in trying to play friend viers so George when this season was first announced were there certain people that you were expecting to show up were you expecting Rob Amber and some of these folks or was the cast completely just like I would have done it something differently something I would have done it differently my God was not expecting Amber that was a big surprise I didn't even remember who she was how dare and I'll say that only because I wasn't a DieHard Survivor fan until all stars all star turned me into a fan I watched a few of the seasons leading up to all stars and then that prompted me to go back and seek out the ear the other Seasons that I didn't know I didn't really know big Tom and Ethan I didn't watch season two so I was introduced to a lot of all stars to a lot of previous players through Allstars that answer your question yeah Emily when you finally like went and watched

2:40 All of them did you expect to see some of these folks here were you excited especially to see some of these folks here well Andrew thank you so much for asking me the year was 2004 I think I'm not really sure I was quite literally chrisly in fourth grade so I did not really have a lot of facial recognition developed yet in my brain so but the great news is what I did have was that I had inner relationships so for everyone who used to watch us on our former show many of you know that my aunt her best friend is Amber so we had a lot of familiarity with the show and then it was really exciting to be able to see her just like claim her rightful air to the throne and find her man on one season and Pittsburgh Pride let's go what a what a year question I just really wanted to flex that I New Amber oh god but and especially watching it how I'm doing it now it was it's very it's very fun to you know get to day eight in real time three years of seeing some of these people that I haven't seen in a week or so and I'm going to get to the trivia Challenge in a little bit because I think that even though

4:01 It's only been three years those questions were still very easy but it was fun having you know Jerry back kby back Rich back and a lot of these folks that were you know pillars and the big names of these first few seasons of the show and I think the problem that all star runs into is and somehow you know I want it to happen this way is they get rid of all of those players they get rid of the robs and whoever else pre merge and I'm happy with that because I don't want to see them turn into what these people were once the merge hit so just going off of the Prem merge George was there ever a moment pre- merge that you felt like there was someone in particular that you were especially rooting for or did you just want to see how it played out and pick your winner as it got closer to the end premerge I don't know this is a tough question because I want I was I don't know who did I want to see let's see who was the boot order we had Tina was first we had who was next oh I said rip I'm trying to remember yeah it went Tina it went Tina Rudy

5:22 It went Tina Rudy I want to say Cino next but I know I'm forgetting that's one that's why was trying to get at is I wanted sanino to go far in this game because it wasn't until the end of Amazon did you realize oh my God this guy is killing it on this season so I think that Rob was smart enough Rob Mariano was smart enough to realize that Roby had to go as quickly as possible because he's that good so he's that one guy who I would have loved to have seen make it Way Beyond the premerge and then sort of you know take over the game like he did in Amazon I was that was what I was hoping for going in knowing how much of a strategist he was yeah Roby was my winner pick and I feel like so they the shapera tribe are the only ones that don't have a winner on it and now all these other tribes are trying to get rid of winners they're trying to get rid of the big names but because there is no winner on this tribe the biggest name to that point the most famous Rob to that point is Rob C and I do feel like when they go to that tribal and Mariano is on the fence of does he want to get rid of Sue or Alicia or does he want to get rid of Rob I think he realizes hey if I want to maintain complete control

6:42 Over a lot of this we've got to get rid of Roby now oh yeah and I think that was you know it worked very well you know in the context of him and Amber's game I think it hurts the season overall because once we lose people that we are invested in and we're now stuck with you know merge boot Rob and you know Alicia who you know a certain part of the community I feel like really enjoyed her first time around you know we have people like Amber who like you said I don't think this that was the craziest thing to say people probably forgot about Amber from Australian Outback yes I feel like there were Amber no shade to Amber yeah it's yeah I don't replaced Elizabeth I think she play wanted they wanted her they wanted Colleen they wanted a couple of people and so we got we got Amber and it's like okay yeah we don't want to see them we don't want to see who I mean yeah I guess big Tom and Rupert would be the biggest names of that merge but because it's big Tom and Rupert we can also trust that they're probably not gonna do much once we get there and so Emily once this merch and we're gonna talk about the Lex Rob thing a little bit later do you feel like the Air's kind

8:02 Of sucked out as we hit the merge do you feel like it just kind of I know you love this season so like I that's but do you feel like there's a little bit of air that is removed from the season Once the merge hits and we've lost a lot of our favorites I don't think so I think that it actually did the opposite for me like whenever you get rid of the big dogs it gives the opportunity for all the underdogs to be able to claim to fight harder and to be and to really come into their own so it not only like did it already maintain a lot of these people's titles you know like Colby's still Colby at this point you know like Rob C is still Rob C like Ethan's still Ethan and people are actually able now to be able to claim that like Boston Rob wasn't called Boston Rob until he was actually here in this season you know yeah and I think that we really got to be able to see like I was telling you guys before we started going live like Jenna lions like I didn't realize how advanced her gameplay was until I went back to a rewatch and saw that she was the one really spearheading a lot of these like get out the winner strategy which would have which evolved only because of her otherwise they would have made it to the end and it would have probably been a different ending does that make sense no I get it I just hated I didn't want Tina to go George do you think that you know because of that early

9:22 Thing of let's get rid of the winners and the big names you know yes that I was very much spearheaded by Jen on her specific tribe but do you feel like that type of strategy has lasted through all of these other you know rury Seasons with the exception of winners at War of course do you feel like that is a strategy that people have always kept in the back of their mind when they go into these All-Star Seasons I think it was very shortsighted of Jenna Lewis back then I thought it was it was not giving those people a chance to prove why they were as good as they were but you know you get rid of them when you can you could use there were a million reasons to get rid of them but right away was I don't know too shortsighted for me yeah and I would I would say that I agree I do think that it worked to her benefit because they did go and she did make the final three I don't and when she's talking about how she would never vote for a winner if they sat at the end and Lex is actually one of the only times I've ever agreed with Lex when he says you know no I feel like if a winner got to the end and they played a game that I felt like I would feel comfortable giving my vote I would still give it to him and I feel like that is a smaller

10:42 Storyline on the season right now of what is more deserving in a season like this in an All-Star season to this question I don't really I don't really buy into the whole what did they do concept especially with this season because Mariana really didn't do much in mares like he was a he was a fun character and he didn't out he didn't outstay his welcome Jerry Was a Fun villain but she didn't really do anything in her season yes Colby won his immunities will'll give him that rert really didn't do anything except for being a big character so I don't think that you necessarily have to do big things and make crazy moves on your OG season to end up here because Rudy another person that pretty much did nothing the entire time he was in Borneo and still ended up here because I feel like that was you know those are the types of people wanted to see back yes I didn't think that Amber was GNA come back but I do think that Amber 2.0 of the three times we've gotten Amber was probably my favorite version of Amber and that's what has gotten lost through all of this is there are a lot of people that say that you know oh Amber didn't deserve to win bitter jury bitter jury and I've always said game changers

12:03 Had a bitter jury and they still voted for Sarah vanu still had a better jury they still voted for Chris Fiji had a better and they still voted for Earl so I don't really buy this whole well Amber if she was if was any other season like Rob W like it doesn't matter because in this season the bitter jury picked who they felt you know deserve to win and I feel like the votes that did go Rob's people were probably still pissed off at him and they still voted him so George you know I first what is your take on the bitter jurry concept as a whole and more you know going into this season what do you feel do you feel like people are I think that this season created the bitter jury I think this season was when you realized that you had to really consider jury management it was the season that Russell Hans should have learned from before going out there I gonna say that twin so I think that it created the bitter jury and yeah it's you know I feel like both of them were deserving but I feel Rob played the more out there game

13:23 But yeah whoever winds up getting those votes wins that game and that's really nobody body's you know people can have their opinions but the fact is the fact you have to persuade these people to vote for you and if you don't you lost the game and so I as much as I was rooting for Rob to win because he played the more overtly out there game and was a lot more entertaining I felt on TV you know as the years progressed I realized how equally deserving Amber was for that win for sure and yeah kind of going off of that like we I especially learned like how often in a lot of Seasons it repeats itself like so we can even see like from this last season spoiler alert in case anyone didn't finish 46 yet y should but Charlie arguably played a more like strategically flashy game you know he spearheaded a lot of the different blind sides and you know a lot of people thought that he might have played more strategy but Kenzie played more into the relationships and by Rob's spearheading more of the strategy he actually he also like had to suffer the consequence of not building relationships and instead losing relationships so Amber was able to have that upper hand in that Survivor is more

14:43 So that game of relationships instead of just strategy you know and I and I do agree and I will say that I do feel like Rob played an underrated social game only because so many people felt like they were in a final three with because he was able to maintain these relationships don't buy what they're trying to sell to you because they're going to try to sell you all this stuff we are good this is our three we're this is our four this is who like Alicia the only person I don't have an alliance with like we are good I haven't told anybody else in the game that I'm not going to vote their vote them and you have to believe me and I do feel like that kind of also gets lost in the whole thing of Rob actually was being very social in at a different aspect you know not more of the caring you know what if I care you type aspect it's more of the building solid relationships with people where it's like whatever someone tells you know someone says I'm gonna vote for you they're lying I'm I would never do that and people bought into it's very similar to Sarah and Game Changers where you know I felt like Sarah and I don't want to jump the gun by like a month but I did feel like because these people were so invested in everything that Sarah was telling them they just never that's why they were so r at her at that at the at final tribal because

16:03 They felt like she had used them which she did because that's the point and that's all stars is the perfect example George you get this more than Emily of because of where I'm already go with this in the LRG and org Community there's always this myth of friend vior sometimes it's not a myth sometimes it actually just happens but there's always this thing of friend vior and I think because these people had sipped the Kool-Aid for three years up to this point going out there they all thought they were all going to go out there and play with their friends and when it turns out that this guy was able to remove friendship from you know the table and say hey I'm just playing this game and you can even see it he's being I believe him being emotional at that final tribal because I think he realizes these people do not want to be friends with me anymore because I voted them out of game George you know you know as a person that has run a lot of these games as a person who has played and as a as a lifelong fan do you feel like there is a line where you know you come in with a friend do you feel like you do have some type of moral obligation to work with them to a certain point or do you think

17:23 It's all off the table it's a lot of questions I'm sorry I will say this about Allstars and it closely mirrors lrgs in general my series other people's series because there's a very small microcosm of people that play these games and they cross over and people have relationships from this game from that game from this game from that game and everybody usually comes in with pregame alliances so all stars is exactly that and that's why it's such a unique season because it's the first time that ever happened where you got to see friends playing with each other wait I'll rephrase that friends playing you know this crazy game with each other and how it affected the game so that was the theme of all stars of this Allstar season was how can you play this game rooted in backstabbing with your friends you cannot you have to check that at the door which is why the people in these LRG communities that play every single game winds up you know everybody winds up being able to be friends with each other for the most part even though you would just

18:44 Brutally blindsided by somebody who you consider a friend it's the beauty of this community and it's the ugliness of this community wrapped up in one yeah Emily I still think you should join at some point or another but if you were to go out you know and you know play once and you get invited back for a second season and you at that point you had befriended folks would you go about it more as Rob in that situation or would you try to take the road that some of these other players did of I've got my people yeah I'm probably gonna have to cut a few of them because there's only a final two which way do you feel like you would have that you would personally attack a game like this a season like this I think that it's easier saying it in retrospect but it is something that like we talk about often where like I'm fortunate I feel like I mean and I feel like also like in both of their shoes you know they have a foundation of a friendship to rely upon and I think that would be something that I would rely upon as a contestant in my fictional Survivor World knowing that if I if I do you wrong once you will you will know the resume of our friendship no you hate that word but I'm going to say it anyway it's a resume of our friendship as opposed to the one wrongdoing because there's only $1 million

20:04 You know yeah well two this season oh yes yeah rer deserved it Sprint said so said so Sprint said watching their faces it's like it's rert it's rert let's just get this done yeah no the other the other real negative that the show this season has going for it is not only do people come in think they're playing for vior but a lot of people come in with these very large egos to the point where the Jenna episode and Jenna you know is not feeling because I mean we got we got it in Amazon you know towards the end when she was thinking about leaving the game because her mom was sick and we get it here and becomes like her main story arc of the season of the three episodes she's in and everyone knows how I feel about Kathy if you don't go watch maresis the maresis one but this season it's even worse because after jeda is basically saying oh yeah I'm fearful that my mom is Kathy goes you're becoming a bit of a cancer to the tribe and it's like oh my God I can't actually believe that this is being said she shouldn't have come out here blah and then we get to the scene where Jenna does

21:24 Quit and first of all Jeff shouldn't have gone to everyone's oh yes how do you feel that Jenna wants to leave thankfully Rob and Amber are two people that were very you know empathetic to her there like I can't even imagine this that and the other meanwhile big Tom Alicia and someone else I tweeted about it earlier no rer was rer was fairly cool about it I think the main the main the main people were Alicia and big Tom was just like no like it's that's crazy oh big Tom says oh yeah my whole family Di in a car crash I just tell everyone to just don't contact me because I'm out here because this is this is where I want to be it's like okay this woman just said hey I need to go because I feel my and then you know it says nine days later and all that but even Jeff when Jenna says I feel like my mom is dying just's like you're talking as if someone has contacted you while you're on the island Jenna she's like no I just have a feeling I'm sorry but like that was that just on this rewatch it was so uncomfortable and I feel like that's a lot of not just that negativity there but in a lot of other situations where these people just are so zoned in on I'm out here again like nothing else matters George

22:45 Are there any people in the season that are you know that possibly redeem their first time you know do better in any type of situation do you think that everyone just kind of sucks I know that's a very general statement but like well Tina didn't do better a just for starters no I think you're asking me who bested their game Who best not even their game just like who do you feel was not negatively impacted by All Stars you know as a character on the show not what happened to them personally but just as a character on the show do you think there's anyone that like was gonna say Rudy but he went out like slinging vendettas against people like threatening death so he's out I would say maybe Jenna Lewis got it together for this one she slayed she you know she was the her tribe was absorbed and her and rert went over to they looked like they were sitting ducks and they put themselves into a position of power and be became the power four so and I think I would have to say a lot of that had to do with Jenna

25:26 Robbed it to Lex would Lex have been a bitterer against Ethan all like feel Lex was a hypocrite because of what he did to Ethan his friend yes I had been I spent all day tweeting about the merge of this season even after I had gotten past the merge because this merge is what exposes the hypocrite the hypocrisy Hypocrites of this season because two episodes beforehand Lex is sitting there with Ethan saying hey you know I came this is a business trip friends like if you're going to be upset with me after the game then this is not a real friendship and this that and the other and then he fast forward two episodes and he's like oh yeah friend to friend and I thought we were friends and if you're you know our relation you know if robs you can tell the moment that it goes off in Rob's head of Lex and Kathy are really putting our friendship on the line because I'm trying to betray them in a game and it's very annoying watching the two of them you know put their friendship on the line because they do know that they should that's they know what this is they know what this is and Kathy even mentions it you know at final travel like I get it but you could have done it a better way it's like what's a better way he's still gonna vote you out so like what do you want him to do he even told you he was Voting you out so you can't even use that as a

29:26 For splitting up and Robin Amber because I think that by that point they knew that was their main storyline of the season and to see what would happen if they separated and I think the F the way that unfolded was like a producers high five in the back wet dream that couldn't have gone any better for anyone on production and it starts Rob's second half villain Arc because of you know his conversation with Lex after the trivia challenge which we're ready to get to I had never over Jerry and Jerry was you know doing Lex's bidding and then all of a sudden he's like I gotta tell you it's your turn and like it was just so hard to watch that yeah it's I feel like they try they try to do a lot and you know 18 people I think is the best thing that we got from this overall was the fact that we had an 18 person C but outside of that just it didn't work for me even things like rert almost not legitimately but almost killing his tribe because of the way they built the camp I love him and it coming off of pearl islands like it was

30:46 Fine and I talked about this yesterday where Shawn from Pearl islands is like the person to ever bring up the edit and I've always thought he's bringing up the edit because rert got this very big positive edit and as we know a lot of people don't really like him in the seasons but we never see that and I think that all stars is another example when we get to the million dooll other fan vote where those people just know that it's just a matter of time till Rupert wins because that's who the show has chosen to be their hero now I do think that in this season because there is no overarching theme as far like it's just Allstars that we get the most we get very Bas level rert he's not playing a pirate he's not embracing pirate culture and he's not embracing oh I'm a hero and their villains it's like once again you know this is fake right like this they're not actual evildoers you're not actually a superhero and in Pirate you know in Pearl Islands he just really laid it thick with the with the pirate references I think this is his Bas level rert I was all right with this season outside of the whole thing with the camp yeah go ahead my question is in regard to what you're saying in that se in

32:07 In all stars and in Heroes versus Villains you had rert fresh off of pearl islands and you had Russell fresh off of Samoa was that fair to the other players that no one got to see rert season no one got to see Russell season how do you put them on a season of returning players when everybody is that a disadvantage for that player or is that an advantage for that player huge Advantage I think it's a huge advantage that's the only reason that Russell made it twice like back there's no other way he would have done that Y and this is why I always I don't defend the JT thing but this is why I always understood why JT did what he did because Optics wise if you've watched Micronesia and you saw what parvy and all the women were doing there and you don't know what this guy Russell's doing and you see that all the men are leaving on the villains tribe and you don't know anything about this man's game yeah I would understand you trying to help out someone that you think is in need now obviously it was a bad move it didn't work blah but I've always sat there and said you know what I understand why JT would do that Optics wise because he doesn't know

33:27 Anything about this man I'd get it except for that he played last season and was good enough to make it back this season I would have gotten it if the tribe that Russell was on wasn't literally called villains like I mean I get that but like that a villain is a stretch because the captain of sports Danielle is on that tribe too and like she really didn't do anything villainous CA and you have Candice sitting on your tribe and Candice is the villain and speaking of villains oh actually no I want to get to the trivia thing first we're g do like 10 to 12 more minutes but we're almost done the trivia thing so like I said the show would have been on for three years at this point and yes maybe some of these people didn't get their DVD box sets hadn't rewatch seasons whatever having said that these questions were extremely easy like to the point where I think both tribes get one question wrong and have to go to a tiebreaker or like the final question oh shoot pause they're starting shoot doesn't matter sorry I lost my train of thought because I thought bow watchi was starting already I was shocked at how basic

34:48 The questions were you know even things like oh who voted the alphabet strategy and everyone's just like yeah Sean like it's I don't feel like enough time had passed for them to do a legitimate trivia challenge like they did do in 46 they did a trivia esque challenge in 46 and I think it worked better then because there are so many seasons to work off of here every tribe has somebody that had played on another one of these seasons and what ultimately costs Lex's tribe in that situation is when they have to name the first boots they get the Pearl Island's first boot wrong because rert is on the other tribe and he would be the one that knows this is not really a question this is more of a observation villains wise though Everyone likes a point at Rob as being the biggest villain of the season I don't agree with that I think that you know Rob is a villain fine for me I just never vibed with Jenna Lewis this season like at all I didn't like you know how she was dealing with Shen I didn't like the fact that she was targeting winners like I think it was smart or gameplay on her and to get rid of the winners because it got to the end but the whole xen thing the whole Sheen versus the world episode is my favorite episode of the season because it breaks the pagonging that is currently

36:08 Happening but I don't like Jenna's treatment of her I don't like Alicia's treatment of her and you know Jenna sitting there pouting at final three it's like if you had just done the big Tom rer flip thing option that was there on the table at five or at seven when xen is saying hey we could do something and if you guys hadn't just pushed her to the side I do think there is a case that Jenna could make it to the end and potentially sit next to Rupert and I don't think that's a blowout I don't think that's a burnout yeah Jenna turned yes Jenna turned heel what are you guys thought like do you think that Rob is the biggest villain of the Season or do you think that someone else could wear that Crown I have thoughts but I'm trying to think like I think that it just kind of depends on what you value in a hero is you know what I mean and like that's what makes it because like some could AR you know I don't know I'm kind of like I'm looking at like the entire group here but I do think that like part of like Lex's demeanor obviously made him a little more of a villain you know I think that like some of the things that people said to Jenna or to Sue or to whoever you know I think that also can make you a complete villain you know so like it just kind of depends

37:28 To me like what you value when you're watching the show and that may be like a little bit of like a half-ass answer but like no absolutely right it's yeah no matter depending on where you are if you rewatch it 10 years later you may identify differently with different people and I remember first time watching it I was team Lex I felt like I felt like he was betrayed and I drank that Kool-Aid initially and then years later I watched it back and I was like Lex a hypocrite Lex was doing the same that he was like I was like Lex is the villain Lex is the villain in this and I gotta say the most fascinating for me the most fascinating moment of the season was the reward challenge where rert won and he got to designate who got which meal that was an incredible idea fascinating because then you had what's her name Sheen at the at the bottom of the food chain getting like right from camp and she was just incredulous and like understandably so you know it's bad enough she's on the bottom here she is being humiliated with like nothing she was like is this water boiled she was just like felt like so alienated throughout the whole season and that was insult
