1:33 Felt biased when it comes to it because i am a south african so people will probably think yes that's why it's your favorite but zoe what a week what did you think of this first week of survivor action oh my god it's action-packed i loved everything so far the twist how it's moving the editing the cost the drama the eliminations like everything is just perfect i love it great richard what did you think you know a big survivor fan i saw you hang out with a few of the players and there was some photos up not that long ago look at you rubbing shoulders with some survivor royalty what did you think of this first week yeah i mean it was it was awesome to meet some of the players and to get some of their hot takes about you know how they played the first time and some of the snippets from the first four episodes but yeah i mean it's starting off really big typical of an all-star season given how things are going and i'm so happy to see some familiar faces and some people that played over 10 years ago so there's a lot to talk about yeah i can't wait i mean obviously taijin being that player that's played over 10 years ago so we'll definitely get into that but also just wanting to let people know here in the live and welcome everybody in the life we do have a poll up today i'm trying

4:14 We do have a lot to get through we've got you know our draft teams we've got players that all three of us have lost in week one all three teams have taken a hit and then we've got our own draft system and points for our own rankings of these players which will go back and refresh everybody's minds on what the point system is going to be around that to see who is leading out of the gate so far that's going to be exciting and then we've got four episodes to talk about so it's going to be difficult to talk about every single little thing like i normally would do on a recap but we're just going to talk about some of the highlights some of the big points and have a really good life discussion i'm going to treat all four episodes as one at certain times but let's go back to the start right so we get these players coming back these excitements of africa gets its first return e-cast season and there's a lot of dios people that we see back in the game we spoke about that in our draft assessment there are viewers in this game but we find out that people have moved on they want to play a different game for instance shane and marianne i feel like shane is very heavily relying on marianne for this game but marianne has made other plans and i don't think shane sees the blade coming at this stage zoe at all like but one thing i do like about shane and marianne is that even though shane is relying on marianne

5:34 I think you kind of understand that she will move on and do whatever that's best for her but as long as she can still help him out without destroying her own game she would definitely do it we saw in the beginning where she was sharing the clues on the signs to look for the idol and still when i hit and voted for him and still came back and told it was happening so i think he kind of knows that deep down inside but i don't think he wants to accept it so earlier on in the game yeah richard were you surprised to see so early on that marianne was more than willing to create distance between herself and shane even offering him up as a sacrificial lamb at one point as one of the two players potentially if one vote went in a different direction she would have been without shane so early in the game it didn't to me seem like a very smart person to put your ace or smart move i would say so early to put your ace up for potential vote off yeah i mean i think the last time both marion and shane last played was like eight years and the way marion is playing like you'd swear she's been playing survivor or like lrgs or rg's on the side because her head her head is really in the game like we're seeing two sort of different approaches here where marian is willing to sort of like disassociate from her duo

6:54 Which is shane and then we are seeing tony pk and you know sort of like being tight and you know sort of like making it as if they're not a jewel when they actually are i mean i think marion's approach of doing things is sort of better you know because obviously it does paint a target on someone's back but you know her obviously it is associating the two does lower the threat level on which is a smart move so props to her yeah there has to be flexibility right there has to be flexibility in this i do feel that shane like i said doesn't see it coming at this stage so i'm a little bit worried for him but like you said in these two tribes there is a lot of different factions and one of the things that i saw called out on social media actually this week was the fact that you know meryl and dante does a few things but you know meryl and dante they are all obviously from the same season they've also got on the other tribe felix who was a very close alliance member of this in the first season so there's three people there that are reasonably tight as well but they kept calling out pk they kept calling out tony and tevin as three people that are very tight now they don't have matching tattoos so maybe that is the secret sauce that makes the alliance that bit much bigger but you know richard thinking about this wasn't it a little bit the puddle calling the kettle black here

8:14 Yeah but i think like you said with the tattoos and i know you know tony is quite you know pop well regular on social media so maybe that's what probably brought the spotlight because even dante was you know pointing out that tony has hanged out with dino tevin you know tony and pk have hung out a bunch of times but i think with meryl dante and felix i mean to be honest i'd already forgotten that felix was even a part of meryl and marilyn who meryl and dante and felix merrill dante felix and steffy as jody calls out here as well steffy being in that same tribe there's actually three of them in the same tribe and it does look like steffy is really close to that to those two as well yeah so i think for you know the felix you know well him being aligned to meryl and then dante is easily more forgettable than obviously the guys with tattoos that are obviously popular on social media in terms of posts and stuff so you're telling me that these players didn't watch the previous seasons yeah i mean personally i'd forgotten up until i had a chat with you in a bunch of people so i wouldn't admit that on life richard i can't edit it out right now you know so i'm sorry i interrupted what did you want to say about this whole dynamic and marilyn

9:34 Dante i do feel like marianne was the one who sparked that initial conversation hey they've got matching tattoos hey they're so close obviously doing a really good job to create a wedge between the two factions within the game where she could very easily sit in that mid pocket or for a little while she did but i think she did choose sides pretty early on here what was your take on the early development here the thing is like marion pointed out there's nothing stronger than matching tattoos and the other trio they are not as loud as people they're not allowed on social media so they're easily forgettable and they didn't play their game that long fellas didn't get voted out at some point while the others really seem to have a way stronger bond and they are extremely loud about their relationship and then also it is a ketchup korean cat or black because everybody has a relationship but it's either just point out other people's relationship first before they call you out so for me it's like i could catch a black but it is where it is at this point and the eye is a target because when you get to the island you see pk and tony disappearing and i'm like you guys are not doing yourself any favors you are not bonding with other people you are excluding people out you are talking to people

10:54 You are not making things easier for yourself so at this point they make them they're making themselves an easier target it is what it is that's how i'm looking at it no i agree and you know we've got two very different tribes here right from the start that's going to be a theme i think that's going to follow throughout the week where i saw shannon gus obviously a very well-known podcaster for rob as a podcast this week tweet out or you know say that they were mesut because they were so messy in the masu tribe and then you've got yantau and a really you know funny easter egg there for people who are star trek fans i don't know if either one of you are star trek fans i'm not really myself but you know larue butter he is obviously a big fan of it and yantau and masumasu being water yantel being burned with fire and yeah somewhat of the star trek language i think i just klingon i don't even know like i got it right i got one right i should have just said i'm a massive fan i would have been able to get away with it so yeah so there we go so obviously i think that if you're a star trek fan there's probably a lot of like easter eggs you know the whole theme and let's talk about the theme i wanted to talk about the two tribes but how beautiful is the setting firstly you know where we are in the sunshine coast absolutely awesome looks so different from the previous

12:15 Season i love the backdrop and you know just seeing these new torches with the star trek obviously type of theme to it you've got the voting in that looks like a futuristic pyramid which i think is one of the coolest you know voting earns we've seen in a long time hats off to everybody that put so much effort into the design the people who don't normally get that shout out the creative team what did you guys think of all of that because it looked beautiful on screen with the city and the tribal council i loved it i love it i love the tribe the one thing that they get whenever you need a challenge i love it reminds me of superman as superman not superman yes actually superman like his house with his stars what is it called kryptonite yes it has a thing i don't know what it is i love it i think it's amazing i think it's beautiful i'm up for the theme and they are showing over how beautiful eastern cape is and i like how they add they actually let us know that is then came the writer of was this book with precious what is it called i forgot the movie oh the little guy called precious lord of the rings he talked about lord of the rings a lot of the rings was actually born in eastern came i'm like what the hell so

13:35 They have this whole comic theme going on even with the location not just from the star trek but from the whole fantasy universe all the way down to highlighting that the writer the creator of the fantasy costume is from eastern cape i love all of that it's amazing and it's new and exciting it's not just getting stealing everything from the ues just take what you get and then mix it up and have your own youth south african theme mixed up in comic books and just be modern with it let's go i love it yeah richard i think you know looking at this the tribal council for instance really again it's got that theme to it you know it's a i don't know it just looks so different this season like i really enjoy the artwork that went into the season so i wanted to give that a shout out because it has that futuristic feel to it but it is survivor which i think is really cool yeah i mean it's absolutely beautiful i mean i think nico on the mnet youtube channel did say that one of the things they were looking into for the theme of this season sort of like use different geometries and the four elements of life fire water air and forgot what the other one is but yeah that's what they were looking into and it absolutely looks beautiful earth i think it's the only one you missed yeah

14:56 Hey this is important you know so but anyway so looking at the season i know we kind of went a little bit off track but you know we don't normally talk about this enough you know give some of those people a little bit of a shout out as well another shout out i want to give as well for the survival production team as the editors within these first couple of episodes because i do feel like for the most part and we will talk about it when we come to the point system most people got a reasonably good edit from the start there was a lot of good editors up for debate and we'll talk about that but you know they definitely got some good airtime and that's something we as fans always ask for there's certain franchises from the start you only get five players out of the 20 players that you actually get to see i don't feel like that was the case here i think we got a little bit from a lot of different players which makes it a little bit harder here early on to see who is the true front runner to win the season which is how i hope it's going to be throughout the season i want to be guessing it's not fun when you know the end of the story already not for me in any case i've never been one of those people that like seeing spoilers for instance richard yeah obviously this time survivor is having four episodes per week while australian survivor has three or had three episodes per week and you know obviously even though there's more episodes that side the number of people that get confessional sort of skewed very much one direction there's

16:16 People that you know don't get a confessional for the first five episodes but i'm happy with what starbucks is doing everyone has had a confessional or two in the first two episodes and people have pretty interesting takes because you know one of the things meryl said was you know she sort of wants to disassociate from thingy dante and maybe we could see it happen in the episodes that come next week so there was a lot of those small confessions that sort of like foretell what's to happen in the first four minutes of the first episode yeah i spotted a definitely that spot that as well meryl sort of saying that she's gonna have to sit back and let other people run the show at the moment or make some of those early calls but you know i do want to before we get into merrell and i definitely want to get into merrell i definitely want to get into steffi the marianne alliance the whole full package lines we'll talk about that because it's such a interesting and fun alliance that formed here very early on i do want to talk about the contrast between these two different tribes you know you've got masu who's playing this very hyper strategic game right from the start they're kind of i feel like taking off where they left off which is that post-merged game and then you've got young tao here or yontao that is very calm no alliances are forming right from the start it's actually harder to read who's running the game there but

17:36 Like a few people say here in the early stages this is the misfits alliance this is a bunch of people that are kind of almost like getting their first shot again because they never really had a great opportunity to go deep in the first game is this how you guys saw these two alliances play out and richard what would you say what is the better strategy here is it better to be hyper focused on strategy and cut people early or is it better to play a slower game and focus more on team unity and building a strong tribe what do you think long term will play out the best in most cases we obviously don't know how this is going to play out but what would you say is the winning strategy i think you know going back to survivor 101 the best way to start the game is to really have that low profile you know work on social bonds getting to know people you know relationships are not really getting your hands you know muddy you know quite early on in the game because you know the more like i think shane said you don't want to be the tallest puppy because obviously you're going to get cut first in the field so i do prefer the sort of yontau strategy over the massive strategy of really being full on day one and you know obviously someone does pray that does pay the price for that later on in the episode zoe so you know i know you're sitting there and you're thinking to yourself you're

18:56 The one that likes chaos you're the one that likes things happening right so i think as a survivor strategist we can agree with richard it is the smart thing to do but which one do you prefer for tv when it comes to the tv show i look at this season as like winners of winners at war season 40 where you don't have time to pretend like you don't know what's going on or where the game is going we are playing the second we land on the beach get to know you for who i already know who you are i watch you play and leopard never change your scribe so while we're pretending we have implications cut the pretense we are getting there we are playing and you can see that from tony the second she landed on the beach and sheamus said something about how his heart was beating fast and tony responded by saying you have a heart i'm not exactly tony stop lying do you have a heart let's keep it moving why are we being pretentious and you see shane looking for others there is no time to protect there's two million range on the line you know how everybody thinks you know how they play you know their weaknesses you know their strengths whether they're gonna change or not you'll figure it out as you go just play the game play it fast it's winners it will let's keep it moving from the get go it's funny you mentioned that because winners at war had

20:17 A very similar theme where you had two different tribes right one tribe being hyper focused on strategy very early on and the other tribe being very cagey not knowing what the right move would be or who to connect with early and almost being afraid of making the wrong move in the early stages and i do think we almost see these two themes playing out because if you've got those emotional scars of being a pre-merged boot in your original season you're going to try and do everything not to be the first person or you know if you're not tanya you're going to do everything to not be on everybody's mind early on to be voted out and obviously you know you're a big tanya fan i'm a big tanya fan as well we see tanya hitting the beach here again early on she said in a pre-season content for those who listened she was not going to play the same game she was going to be a lot more calm this time calm tanya calm down 20 minutes later yeah she left her at home she left at home she did not bring tom tanya with her to the beach and she goes out and she tries to create alliances with everybody again she's with pine tea and teresa she's talking to kalani different people at different times you're trying to wheel and deal before she even knows if she likes these people but for the episodes that tanya was on the show did she deliver for you she was okay this time around

21:37 I really think she was a little bit better because i don't feel like she started any drama she was literally just responding to what was happening around her did she bring the old tanya back yes she did by making two too many alliances too quickly too soon had three possibilities within 20 minutes is typical tanya but she didn't start any miss and like pintu said it takes two to tango but in reality somebody had to take the lead like in any death somebody is the lead and this time around pine tree was leading tanya to the miss that she ended up in i feel like if she never had that blow up with pine tea we may have received a karma who collected pint time because she was focused she was kind she was honest she was straightforward she wasn't that messy i'm going to come back to tanya in one second here but just to read out here what dylan said and for those that i haven't read some of the comments i have seen some of your comments i am flagging it to come back to it at a later stage when it makes sense dylan in the preseason episode of the podcast i said a united weak tribe is stronger than a strong divided tribe and the first and second episode proved that and i agree i personally feel very

22:57 Worried for masu post merge players at this stage in the game i know they've had the biggest edit around them i know that when we're looking at the rankings that i've asked you guys to vote for a lot of masu tribe members are currently occupying the top five spots of players that people think are playing the best game but it is not about how you start it's about how you finish and i think having that united tribe the biggest thing that i was thinking to myself throughout this whole episode and we will talk about that again in a bit when we get into tony later on is what's tony's incentive to stay with this tribe right now you know like the we're burning and cutting people here a swap is going to happen at some stage tony's definitely going to flip and i think that masu will find themselves in trouble because they're not i feel like where some of those players have not learned they've not learned that you need to make people who are at the bottom of the game feel included within the tribe and they're not doing that where when you see someone like tanya and pinty fighting here the main thing that players are trying to focus on here is still unity in the early stages so even if one of them breaks away the other person feel like they're still a part of that group so there's maybe less of a chance than that tribal fraction in the long term so i just wanted to bring that up and we will get back into that a little bit later on as well but you know richard tanya and pointy let's get into that we're currently on that subject we will jump back and forth and talk about

24:17 Different parts of the first four episodes because it's hard to do it episode by episode with so much that happened but tanya and pointy big blow up here tanya came into this game pointy was one she was a super fan of pine tea before she played this game she really enjoyed pointy on her original season but sometimes you don't want to meet your heroes right and you're someone who have met a lot of your heroes already richard and how did this play out yeah obviously you know with i mean i love i'm tanya i love her reading the moon being a lone wolf pack wolf i do love the you know passion yeah exactly like she's a lovable player to watch and then we have pine tea on the other hand who you know in the first episode does say that in the first time she played she was looked at as this abrasive huge character and she said she didn't want to bring that up this time but it seems like that inner personality sort of shining out and you know you know that ends i'm not gonna lie i'm not gonna lie richard i was watching the episode i messaged you guys afterwards and i was like i was ahead of you guys with the episodes because obviously because we do the interviews some of us get a little bit of a early viewing i got a little bit ahead of you guys which is good because there's the time difference right so it actually helped me get ahead of you but i was like cannot wait to see zoe's response to this next one because

25:37 We had some pre-season we had some pre-season conversations about who we put at our teams you know i came to bet for you pinty and i still like you and what i want to say what i want to say at this point is that we can only like i want love for all the players like going out there and putting yourself on national and international tv i don't think is an easy thing to do i know some people have got the take that if you put yourself out there you know what you're letting yourself in for so you should be ready for some of the backlash that's going to come with being on the show i get that's a take it's a valid take my take is let's show humanity to these players they're all human beings in the first place but it doesn't mean that we won't talk about your gameplay and criticize it so it's all love for all of the cast if they ever listen to this but i don't know party how to defend you i was just thinking to myself zoe you had it right i told you i was laughing i even did every child and i'm like to think that chris actually believed her when she said i have changed i'm different i want to cover a different game i'm like way wait it's not happening she's actually worse than before and this is what i actually think is happening right now when i watched on the first episode i thought she watched chappis played and she saw how the public loved and supported chat piece and then she wanted to mirror the game but

26:58 What she forgot is that people don't just like chappies because he had a diner people love chappies because he was humane he respected people and he was a hustler and he fought if you walked away watching chappie season and you thought to yourself we only just love you because he stole food you have congregation issues it's not about spilling food but how you treat people how you make them feel how you talk to people on day one pinty throws a temper syndrome and curses our shauna because shauna told her not to eat raw apples or raw pineapples it wasn't advice and she blew up on shawna and if all the people know what to blow up on shauna is not one of them he's like what the hell is this and then she continues to blow up on tanya now you're asking yourself what is going on you are once you show yourself as like a big bad wolf but my thing is i don't like people like that because you have to pay attention who she is bossing up on she would never boss up with steffy she would never post up on balisa that will put her in her place she possibly people that should think and perceive as weak as her and that i cannot respect and i cannot tolerate she knows in that tribe she is the strongest female therefore she's in with the guys so she can do whatever she wants and i don't respect that

28:18 When he gets a tribunal cancer tanya is fighting for her life inhumane way being pulled away taking stuff and here she is acting like just a rambo movie what the hell are you doing there is no humanity there is no comprehension or the fact that when you write the person's name she is out of her game her dream of playing survivor is over do it with respect do it with humanity stop being a big bad wolf for attention it's not going down well it doesn't look good on you and i don't even let the girl so i'm done talking about her that's just more fun to bring up zoe woke up and chose violence today coming into the spotlight it's ridiculous i know i know zoe i know that you know you weren't high in pine tea coming into the game and i'm sure her playing this way probably hasn't improved your view on her in the game right but i just want to say you know i can't i can't defeat pointy end moves i agree like some of the moves like she's putting unnecessary heat on herself and she has shown not to be socially aware because she goes into that same tribal council where she does the i can't do the rainbow sound but the papa sound that she does and she asks everybody did i really eat too much and everybody starts laughing in her face because that's a clear sign yes you are eating too much yes you know

29:38 Creating space around the fire for other people so they don't freeze at night or not putting them to the side where they're out in the cold that's not a good move and a social game where people need to vote for you at the end to win and my fear with pointy at this point and like i said for people who are listening to this i know people earlier in the life said we're happy to see that on the ranking system pointy is at the bottom and she currently is at the bottom on that ranking system for people voting we don't know how that's going to be by the end of the week but you know i just want to say you know like we don't condone anybody going and harassing pointy outside of the game about survivor like we want to promote people to go and want to play this game think about it if some of you in the life here ever wanted to apply for the game i know richard if you ever wanted to apply well i wanted to apply you know i want to feel free to go out there and be myself and create crazy tv for you and one thing we have to say you know even if we don't agree with the way she's played and i agree with you zoe i think she looks entertaining yeah i looked i think she looked up to chappies she's all stealing food eating on their own she's not executing it right she's maybe executing it too early too obvious about it but you know one thing she is richard is entertaining right yeah absolutely i mean i've been i've enjoyed watching her but you know we obviously unfortunately in this case even though i liked tanya didn't want it to go unfortunately she was the one to go and apparently what motivated that

30:58 In tevin voting confessional apparently tanya wanted to start a seven person alliance in the yanta tribe and tevin dwel tevin wasn't ex well included in it so i think that's why tevin is sort of the tribe leader of yontao made the call to rather boot tanya instead of the perceived as more abrasive pinty and we do see people like felix and philip trying to you know support tanya and you know in preference that pine tree goes but obviously didn't go their way and the tribe sort of like in unison with the vote i want to say with finnish there's one thing that i didn't like in the tribunal council when a pinterest was explaining herself and she switched up the language and they put a translation i don't like it when people do that like you tanya doesn't understand what you're saying you're speaking in torso at that moment just no idea what you say and you're making a statement directed to her or the tribe and you say that a different language and then everybody else kept quiet and the only person that reacted was phyllis because she understood what she was saying and it's laughing and to me that's also inhumane if you're sitting with someone who doesn't understand the language and you switch up the language and you're speaking to them there's a clear

32:18 Side of disrespect it's a good call out because i do think that if it was like a dante and a stiffy out there talking afrikaans that would have been seen in a similar way and i don't think it's ideal i do want to say that sometimes i don't know how you guys feel about it but i know that when you're really upset nothing can express that feeling of being upset like your own language you know so if you want to get that frustration out so i mean these people are not perfect you know they're out there in a pressure cooker situation things are happening at a million miles an hour i get that it's disrespectful but that's probably the thing i would forgive like i had to if i had to like mark pointing down on a bunch of bunch of things that's the thing i would market down the least on maybe it's not like in real life you definitely don't want to see that you want to communicate with people in the language they understand but you know i'll give a pass there we've hit on quite a few things in the game and another pass i want to give her right because you guys know i'm going to try and find them right is that you know pinty went out there to play this game she's in a lot better shape than what she was going into the previous season she's looking fit right but one of the things i mentioned to chappies yesterday as well like you know if you start training and your metabolism gets fast you get a lot more hungry she's like hey i'm way more hungry than what i was last time because people with fast metabolism eat a lot throughout the day so maybe that's the reason what she did wasn't right

33:38 But maybe that's the reason she's struggling more and then there was a lot of mention in that by tanya that said that the players from season eight were really struggling out there because they had so much more food last season compared to this season where those that played in seasons that weren't in the pandemic era they didn't need the same food because apparently last season there were more food because if somebody did get sick their immunity their immune system their immunity their immune system needed to be stronger to deal with it so maybe that's another thing as well it's true but my thing is you sign up for survivor you should have known there will not be that much food to begin with the fact that you got food on season eight was like you survivor there's not much food and how you go about it in what matches doing it properly openly disrespectfully is when she went wrong nobody's saying don't steal food or hide food it's just how you go about it how you doing and also when tanya is really trying to resolve the situation with pine tea by having a private conversation with her she doesn't want that she wanted to be done publicly in front of the tribe just so she can continue to put her down this week things tend to go live for point because it's like you are looking for attention you want this to be a public spect spec what's the word you are

1:12:23 Tony situation because i think a few people here would have expected us to bring this up already and i promise you didn't put it off just because myself and richard are friends with tony that's not the reason we put it off i just didn't think about it until now which is crazy to think about but obviously there was a big fallout in the episode between marion and tony and pk and that alliance going up against the bigger alliance within the game they're singling out of marianne this episode as the weak link which is survival 101 you've got to find a weak link you've got to find someone that you're going to vote out in the game but where things went a little bit off the rails and i've seen some public backlash is the fact that she spoke about marianne's skin she spoke about the fact that marianne potentially is struggling out there and that she was going to vote it out using it as a bit and people are saying that it was used as a game mechanic here to try and vote out marianne in the game richard we'll start with you first what's your thoughts on this whole situation yeah i do think you know the reason why a lot of the public you know sort of like think you know it was a huge thing was because you know it's almost like there is a misinterpretation it was almost like tony was trying to get marion out because of his skin condition which is vitiligo but i think that is that isn't really the case i think the reason why marion was being target

1:33:46 All three of us have lost people i've been at a disadvantage from the beginning because i've got one player less so i'm really gonna have to hope some of these players can go deep but i feel good about the fact that i've got both meryl and marianne it could either go very well for me and dante like if that alliance gets annihilated i'm done i'm out of the game it's an early season for me but after week one i am at the bottom i've got a total of 87.5 points with my team my top point getter is also the top point getter for week one which is marianne she gets 28 points after episode one she's got the most confessionals at 21 for the first four episodes she's got also two challenge wins which gives me a total of six points and she's got four votes against her which gives me minus two but she found an advantage in the duplicate diplomatic community which gives me three points now the team that is second is team richard on 95.5 so from 87.5 to 95.5 richard in second place his top point getter for episode one is sheamus gave you 24 points for episodes 1-4 15 confessionals two challenge wins and he found an immunity obviously it was a shared immunity and he ended up playing
