0:00 Welcome back to the nullified tech channel here on youtube where we've got the tnt takes for you on survivor south africa return of the outcasts i'm joined today by two of the first three voted out castaways from this season both tanya and chappies tanya chappies welcome to the podcast this is the first time you're on this channel but i have spoken to both of you in the past and i was so hoping i don't get to talk to you this early in the season italian chappies welcome back how is things on your end ladies first for me is good you know my episode my vote out was last night i watched it with a group of people online so i watched it a couple of hours later than everybody else i was surprised how emotional i was i sobbed my eyes out it was like i was speaking to myself on the beach that day but i wasn't emotional about being voted out at all i was more emotional about what i was saying about you know being a good parent and a good friend it really resonated duh so i want to talk to you definitely about that you're core you'll cause such a strong thing tanya out there you're like we had this conversation a year ago i even said when we did our draft picks in the beginning of the season tanya knows where she went wrong she's gonna rectify this season you go out there

1:20 But do you remain true to who you are and if you see an injustice out there you're gonna call it out what does that come down to why do you feel the need in a social game like survivor to stick your neck out like you did in this last episode i think it's because i'm not playing a part i'm tanya and at the end of the day chappies and i both agree on this if you come in playing for the 2 million or the 1 million that we thought it was going to be you've lost the point this game is far bigger than what the money so would i come in i mean in my heart i don't believe i could ever win survivor absolutely not does that stop me from coming in absolutely not so i get far more and i think you know we're not playing a game we play a game when we go to the challenge we play a game when we lose a challenge we know we have to go to tribal every other minute on that island is not game play it's life and unfortunately it was the life that caught me i think i played quite well in the game yeah champion's coming over to you exact same question right you've played like i said to tanya before we went live here one long season because it never really stopped for you being back to back you didn't have much time to get out of the game before you had to go back in there how difficult was it for you to go into this game and not fall back into

2:40 Your plotting ways looking for others in the middle of the night i wanted to start plotting from day one you know so it i like we spoke about this earlier as well tanya and i where it's so strange how we default back to who we are you know default back to certain ways of doing stuff and in some sort of way i wanted to pull up the handbrake a little bit and i think i pulled it up with the social games and so because i didn't i didn't want to mingle as much there but when it came to due to the mischievousness and digging for idols and so i couldn't doubt myself if the opportunity presented itself there i couldn't say no to it to start digging there you know so yeah just sorry back to your question it was difficult to how can i say not to go into what i finished with the previous season because you're so used to that and you know how amazing it felt there to really just be all on your own on the beach and have your own little corner where you've got your diner and so but you're but you can't compare one child to another you can't go necessarily go in with exactly the

4:00 Same strategy as you that previously you know so it was difficult because to a certain degree you default back to who you are as a person yeah it's quite interesting because i was just thinking about it now you both had players on each other's tribes that played in your original season on your original tribe that ended up probably being the downfall for both of you sitting here pinty obviously being a big part tanya of the you know the friction within your tribe and then dante ultimately you know betraying you chappies in the early stages here what was it like you know seeing pinty chappies on tanya's stripe i know you weren't in the game but seeing her kind of fall also into some of those habits that she had in previous season where she's just really painting a target on herself from a viewers perspective i was looking forward to the fireworks that's gonna start some other time because that is what that what's bound to happen pointy has got a very strong personality and sometimes she does things and says things without thinking it through in the moment and when she looks back she's like oh yeah you know maybe i was what i was wrong there but yeah i was certain that it's going to be some fireworks especially between tanya and bunty because tanya doesn't keep her mouth or anything you know

5:21 I know i will say a thing as it is and findings out they're doing stuff that isn't necessarily acceptable in the social environment and with tanya pointing that out you are bound to get fireworks and then we got them fireworks so yeah it was interesting to see those two or you know those two personalities together and i was expecting a clash just that it i didn't expect it that soon and didn't expect it to that degree yeah so tanya you're the person who actually lived through that experience of living with pinty and her being very confrontational we see her not wanting to make plays for people around the fire we see her eating more than her fair share of food at certain times can you talk us through how difficult this was for you because you came into this game being a super fan of pinties you wanted to work with pointy how was it different playing with her compared to what you expected you were gonna get out there i guess i think i did get the pinty that i love i did get that fierce warrior that in the challenges you know she was a fighter and she would put herself out there and throw it all on the line and we did see that yeah you know i think also if you look historically i came from a season where in the first five days

6:41 We ate five bananas that was one banana a day pinty came from a season in the middle of covert where they were given loads of food loads i can't i mean when i remember watching their season and seeing piles of food so maybe her expectation coming in was a bit different you know i came from a season where every morsel was precious so maybe that made the gap bigger but you know at the end of the day she's still a warrior if i was stranded on an island i would have no hesitation to have her there i would hope that she would share whatever bounty she found in the way that i would but she's a hard worker and her heart is in the right place but maybe her over overall desire for food was too big too great one of the things i noticed with pointy coming into the season as more as an observation is she's a lot more in shape even than what she was the previous season now chappies you're someone that knows when you're training a lot and you're getting in shape your metabolism craves food a lot more so i feel like maybe that's something that's coming to the season as well where she's saying her metabolism is doing things to her that she didn't struggle with last time she's wanting to eat more chappies do you feel like she was inspired by you a little bit to go and have coconuts on her own and she's following a little bit of the chappies guideline

8:01 On how to play the game yeah they definitely find you even told me after the game you know yeah even at my little corner oh little corner there i can in a way that's kind of us sweet for me it's kind of sweet for me from just from my perspective but just seeing it now you know how i unfolded and how quickly she went into that i'm kind of like oh funny maybe it wasn't the right time yet you know it's cool and maybe you should have done it more discreetly because i did it for quite a long time before people found out you know i didn't want to put it in their faces until it was kind of the right time to include it in the game but yeah no she definitely took some tips from the diner yeah so tanya i want to come back to you with the dante question you played with dante in the first season you kind of know what dante is like you know what it's like going up against dante and meryl and felix who was with you and your tribe this time and we'll come back to felix at some point but what was it like seeing dante play with chappies on the other side the two aqua men and were you shocked that dante actually went against chappies as early as he did in this game because for me as a fan i looked at it and i thought to myself you need other physical beasts around you to be there as a meat shield in the game and he chose to rather cut chappies very early on what was it like

9:21 Seeing that play out from your side yeah that was quite hard because i think dante is playing a different game or no not that he is i think he wants to play that different game i mean he said he wants to make those social connections he was in a very comfortable sex as a player i can't understand why somebody would ruin a comfortable six i mean you've got the numbers even if you don't like the guy you know you go as far as you can and then you take him out so i was disappointed to see that especially because chappies was the fallout i think you know in many ways dante is playing a similar game to what he had in his last season he is playing a solitary game if it suits him to be in the group he's in the group but it's still dante's game it's not a it's not an alliance game chappies you obviously went on to the island you said i loved seeing you play your season you know we're both the aquaman and you know you really flattered dante out there you tried to make that connection with him which i thought was brilliant play you want to get him close he clearly had really good connections with merrell coming into the season him and steffy seemed like they were still on good terms or they had spoken prior to coming into the season at least so i thought it was a good move from your end here what do you think ultimately you know

10:42 Sort of was the downfall because obviously in the game you didn't see it now that you've been out of the game for a while do you believe it was that connection that you had with steffi like it was portrayed on the show do you believe that was the main reason dante didn't want to play with you deep in the game or are you still sort of in the dark about that i think that was 70 percent of the reason i think dante realized he's not my number one you know and i think if i made it more clear that he's my number one that not that i think i could have done it because i knew of my relationship with steffi it might have changed but yeah so i think it's 70 the fact that it wasn't my number one 20 the fact that i dug the idol you know right then camp so in the sense that it was inconvenient for them to stay up at night and then percent because my biceps is bigger than his and tanya when you guys come to into this next challenge you go into this next challenge you see chappies not there what's the reaction in your camp going back to that because i mean chappies to me was the biggest name coming into the season he's the record holder when it comes to individual challenges a lot of people like to tell me yeah he's equal when it comes to immunities but if you take rewards with

12:02 That he is the out and out record holder for most individual challenge wins in south africa how big of a shock was that for you guys and did you expect to see chappies go this early it was a huge shock but at the same time we weren't surprised chappies is a challenge beast we thought he would certainly they would want to keep him there to get the numbers you know to win the first five or six immunities so that by the time merge comes they've got the numbers so we were surprised that they had sacrificed him for that reason so we were really surprised when chappies wasn't there we that was not a name we were talking or thinking about but at the same time it doesn't surprise us because people are threatened by chappies now chappies you may or may not know this but i'm a massive fan of steffi always have been i'm so loving her first couple of episodes and the fact that we get to see a different side to steffy this season because i know i've spoken to her off air she's got a very different side to her to the one that we saw in her original season which i was always i'm a fan of fighters i just love that you know so and it was so crazy to see two of my favorite players connect so early on the island and i was really hoping you guys could run it deep can you tell me a little bit about that relationship and that bond that you had with steffy you know there was a little bit of talk of you guys knowing each other outside of the game and was she your

13:22 Number one in these early stages i know you've got to be fluid in the game but was that the person that ultimately you wanted to work with and who else outside of steffi you know we spoke a little bit about dante was the other people even in the other tribe maybe that you wanted to work with as the game progressed yeah stefan my connection comes from about two three years ago when i met her at a wedding while i was actually in the process of the entry process the costing process you know right at the final stages and then she told me you're going you're going you're definitely going and anyway since then we've had a brill to where we got to know each other you know on a deeper level but that was my that was my work wife like something he was my work wife you know steffi i was i was willing to go with steffi right to the end i don't think i'll be i would have been able to cut her throat because there's just such a genuine heart in that beast of a lady you know such a genuine warm heart and it's something we just connect she feels like my sister from another city and yeah so i really looked forward working with her especially when it later came at the physical kind of things or even the individual immunity challenges you know i think she would have given me a run for my money on some of those challenges

14:42 And i was also looking forward to working with shane believe it or not but shane was my first alliance made on the island and you know we had some strange synergy even though this guy hated me before the time and i knew what he thought of me we'd really just had a synergy about us and i was looking forward to really going you know quite far with shame because it was unforeseen kind of alliance and there was synergy there so yeah definitely and then obviously i looked forward to working with tanya i was really because tanya was also one of the people that i saw in my dreams before i went into the game you know tanyan steffy and yeah pine tears well all the season 8 people i wanted to work with them i didn't know many of the other people so i would have kind of probably stuck with what i knew maybe dino as well you know who do you think chappies while we're talking about season eight who do you think was the biggest snubs for the post merch team because you know i had my own video for those that haven't seen it you'd go check it out on the nullify take channel where i spoke about the five biggest snubs for the season that i was surprised didn't come back now i know these people may have said no because you know life happens sometimes but

16:03 Who were you shocked not to see there and were you shocked that you were the only name from your season in that tribe i was shocked that i was the only the only person from my season in that tribe yes definitely i was also expecting to see people okay so from post merch out costs i would have said tyson you know i was kind of i thought he would have gone back as well because he was an outcast he brought he made very good tv just trying to think who else there was because you probably you would have known of santoni would have been in talks or not because you guys are close but that was one that for me was quite a shock like i thought santoni would be there yes like something is as well you know but i believe she's going back somewhere at the time she's just also made she makes incredible tv and she's got such a passion for the game but yeah there's not a lot of names that come up when i think you know that i was shocked that they weren't there one or two it's tyson you know maybe wada because she although she didn't necessarily have such a good experience she still made good tv she made good entertainment she brought some energies to the table that

17:23 Create clashes you know and yeah but i was mostly shocked just to see that i'm the only one from my season in my tribe now tanya in your case it was very different right you had a lot of people from your original tribe almost your whole original tribe back on the season from your first season what was it like going out there and playing with felix again and also who were the people you were drawn to early in the game that you wanted to work with we saw you talk to a few different groups of ladies there that you wanted to try and pull together but what did we not see i guess on the tv screen who did you try and form some relationships with okay well the first second of the game where we took our blindfolds off and the game was starting and i looked at my tribe i was the happiest to see felix i knew instantly that felix and i would work together if the opportunity arose when we connected on the island we both said you know let's keep this quiet because nobody's going to expect this but i've got felix's heart and he's got my heart so people don't know that outside of the season so that was a good advantage i thought i had i was also delighted to see dino you know he's kind of like the people's person and he's a great networker so and i gave him

18:43 One of the caps that i got as a donation when he was looking to increase his kitty so i was really pleased that they were my two focused men and my two focused women would have been or what wouldn't have been they were teresa and pinty kalani came into that by mistake because i was talking about it and i didn't realize that she wasn't one of the girls that i'd connected with so by default she became part of the group but my group that i looked at would have been dino and felix and sheamus and sheamus later in fact he was the last one in our informal group and then those two ladies and then very quickly i realized that one of the ladies i'd picked was the lady that i was the most disappointed with and that wasn't going to sit right so even if i had an informal alliance i wasn't going to stick to it because my heart was telling me it was the wrong thing to do yeah so you had to follow your heart on quite a few difficult things there and you had to choose between the game and your morals and what you wanted to be known for within the game or who you are as a person i guess and one of those moments where when you had the opportunity to throw teresa under the bus as the person who said that tevin had an idol when he didn't have it

20:03 And you chose not to do that you chose to protect teresa but she wasn't a part of that core group of people that you necessarily just mentioned there can you talk us through well she was yeah she was it was pinty and teresa were the first two ladies i connected with so it was it was protecting her primarily because we were in that informal alliance i mean we didn't really discuss it because there was no need to for the first five days you know what you see on screen is a very kumbaya tribe where there's no strategy that kind of was what it was like i don't know if i just missed it all but there wasn't a lot of strategy talk for the first five days there was this loose seven of which pinty and i were both a part of and at odds so by the time it came to vote it was an obvious choice it had to be pinty or myself despite the fact that we were in this loose alliance and i stood up for teresa because there was a part of me that doesn't care what people think and it's just i guess being a mother maybe as well i'm a pack animal i do want to if i can make it easier if i can take maybe a little bit of the blame or the flack i kind of feel that who cares i've already got

21:23 Flak yeah not a great gameplay but a tonya play and we spoke about how difficult it is when you're out there not to just be yourself you know if you've got a very strong presence and you kind of know who you are internally sometimes you just default back into those natural habits and things that you know normally do i guess especially on a game such as survivor you know chappies you start playing the game again and you're aquaman again you know i'm sure you don't run around at home being aquaman but you're out of survivor that's who you are so you've gotta you've gotta live up to that sort of reputation that follows you within the game chappies who do you believe currently in the game is the person that is being underestimated the most and is playing the best game in your tribe in these early stages who blindsided you the best you just didn't see them coming when you were in the game yes yeah definitely don't they i must put it up there for him because i underestimated his abilities to really go against the connection that we had you know and he was just like got it off let's go on you know dante and then merrell as well so they were they were really quite a strong pair and both of them full

22:44 You know meryl mailed me a bullet like long before the season where she told me listen if i ever play with you know you have two good confessions and you're too good in challenges i'll vote you out first and i've mentioned this game and i'm like hmm let me just maybe give meryl a chance but i mean if someone's mailed your bullets i mean and you see them the next time you was probably going to have your gun ready you know and in this case meryl just fooled me but fool me once it's okay i just i still have the bullets that's all i'm gonna say i've got the bullets and i've and i've learned from that but yo dante and meryl they blindsided me completely and then i would say thirdly marion yeah so thinking about you know this game here chappies you went in like we said from one game to the other game you kind of took off where you left off in the previous one you didn't have much of an opportunity between seasons i know i saw your video this week where you said you would always say yes to survivor that's a given right and hats off to you for having such a positive attitude to being voted out first this season because you actually pleaded to everybody that are fans of yours to continue to watch don't cancel the dstv

25:24 Be out there play this game again did you expect to have such a big target on your back so early coming into the season you know chris i don't expect to go out so soon but i also kind of tried to manage my expectations but i think once i saw the tribe i was in i kind of already felt like i'm in trouble you know i mean the fact that you know some things from my past were there were presents i thought that could be that could be a factor to consider as to how long i'd be in the game and evidently it really was the fact it's considered because i mean as you saw in the last episode it was between myself and a certain person and it just yeah things were just not looking good at all and it's tough when you've got that past relationships with people outside of the game that can come back to haunt you've got a couple of players from your previous season where they're putting three people together suddenly that are very tight they were in the same alliance and the same tribe oh sorry about that man where did you guys where did you guys lose me so i basically i just wanted to say i'll ask you know obviously you mentioned something about having quite a few connections in the game when you when you came in obviously some of them were good some of them were bad but it ended up even the good ones having your friends tevin and tony out there really painted a target on your back early in the

26:44 Game where do you think you went wrong if you if you had to go back there how could you have minimized that threat level that you had on your back because of those relationships in the game you know you know chris when we recorded season six right that was that was quite a long time ago and that's how long myself tony and seven have had our matching tattoos and it had been a five-year hiatus since the season before so when we're done with season six never were we expecting that there's going to be a returning season and all three of us are going to be on it that's literally the last thing we expected so when we got our mashing tattoos i mean i can't say i wish we didn't get them but then we never expected that who would have a target on our packs on a returning season because of that you know and yeah that's definitely something that put a target on our backs and also guys i'm not really trying to talk about the romantic side of things you know i don't even want to get into it but that also happened during the same time so 2018 was quite a busy year for me man and it came back to bite me right in the ass listen for any survivor players

28:04 That want to go back and play the game again or even for myself don't date any survivor players because if i ever do land on fans versus favorites with maybe my survivor x it might blow up in my face as well that's kind of the lesson i took from that yeah you know what i said to tyson i said to tyson he was actually laughing at me he slid into my dms and he was laughing at me he was like so marrying her i was like yeah bro stay away from co-workers [Laughter] but it's like you said it was you know it's a long time ago you don't know if there was ever going to be a second season so understandable and obviously things happen in life and in this case you just had it blast out on national and international tv but who knows maybe yeah there's still a little bit of pk chaos to come in the future if the opportunity ever came up in the future again pk you know do you do you still have that fire within you to go out there and write some wrongs yeah chris i'm not i'm not excluding it from my from my future i mean never say never you know you'll never know you'll never know i think other people do deserve an opportunity i mean there's other great players like the likes of you know kieran the likes of verna you know jock people who haven't really had the chance to play and i know someone who's kind of my archetype is you know a guy who's been showing me a lot of love i've been showing him
