Survivor UK: Episodes 5 & 6 Review

0:00 Hello everyone and welcome back to the NFI Tech channel here on YouTube where we've got the TNT text for you on surviv UK and I couldn't be joined by any other co-host than the Beautiful the Magnificent the astonishing the Fantastic v how are you good thanks for having me I in my mind I'm in the Dominican Republic but my body is here yes it's wait is that where the place is called the Dominican yeah they're in the Dominican I thought yeah I thought they there was a little a little thing that came up saying where it was and I thought well of course it's beautiful makes a lot of sense I mean I think they're in Good Old South American way I mean to be perfectly honest I'm just so used to Fiji and Samoa Australia Fiji for America is like oh just a random Island somewhere in the world you know it's got a beach it's got water it's got trees there are lots of there and crabs we saw shots of crabs I adore the crabs and there was some really they're beautiful Wildlife shots and it's been what I've been missing you know everyone has their favorite thing about Survivor and for me it's the crabs in more ways than one

1:21 I mean that's quite surprising because when you really think about it sometimes they will sheer storytelling just based on the shots of wildlife like I Rec in some of the earliest dra Survivor Seasons they would have like a scene of like a snake slithering as like a snaky players talking to someone or they'll be like sh a shark swimming around and spider as well yeah it's quite fascinating how even though just like a quick a quick cutaway yeah it shares so much storying what's going on and then the crabs are just ridiculous they're just like yeah no we do love some classic cheky Krabs but unfortunately our boy Tom won't be able to make it tonight he won't be able to make it next week either because he's got some heavy work commitments but the one after he should he will definitely be joining us for that but make sure of it yeah we will we will there's no like fancy emoies yeah this time around it doesn't work for me it for me either but V you know V week three what's your what's your thoughts first of all and I know we joked about this in the past

2:41 But has Joel always done a voice over because he did have I just been blocking that out because I swear to the Lord this was the first time I ever heard him do the and now they're back at the beach and they're feeling kind of blah and I'm like has that always been there am I going crazy am I just so used to that in other shows that I just never heard it in this one I just took it for granted because I made jokes about how lame that would be I think it was last week yeah and it's actually been happening and I've just not noticed it yeah no it's like defin at the start of the episode he does voiceovers to kind of like recap some stuff that's been going on now we're going to the Kellon tribe we sh once again on the bottom and propes does not do that or have I been ignoring propes this whole time no she does he does not do that okay cool yeah I think it's kind of lame we don't really need it but apparently it must not bother me that much because I had completely ignored

4:01 It and not even taken it in so it's going to bug me now I've I mean it's quite weird because even though I'm like diving deep into the season like trying to like read the edit and read things that are going on I've taken quite like a chill relaxed approach almost like a casual approach and I person don't mind it you know okay a lot of people complained in the first two weeks how there was not a lot of strategy I love the there was no strategy you know it made it more entertaining for me and much easier to do the podcasts right and now we're we are starting to see some strategy from both tribes that were def get into and it feels like rewarding exactly kind of strategy I think the US Survivor is particularly guilty of this and I think I brought this up last week when you've got the game Bots and the talk they're also paranoid of each other yeah that they're trying to think everyone is trying to think two three steps ahead of everyone and it just it almost paralyzes them a little bit and with this we've been able to see actually a little bit of relaxing a little bit of you know you've got a race and someone goes up and then someone else goes whereas

5:22 Yeah us it's just like butting heads so this has been I think a relaxed approach to the whole show yeah and I think there's truly something about like having a true cast of like strangers who don't really know what they're doing out on the island playing this game right because that's where you see raw strategies and that's where you'll see like unique blowing sides unique moves and very unique characters like season 43 had Cody an elevator salesman who had only started watching like I think season 41 he watched and then he watched a couple other Seasons before he went out and played for me personally he was the most entertaining character in that whole season I loved everything he was doing and he wasn't a Super Fan it was just a casual guy just there to have fun and I think as well with the cast we're having V I'm loving this cast like I remember more people in this cast than what I do with the past like five American seasons yeah they do stand out and it's nice to go back to the average Joe and see them work their way through I think last week we discussed that the edit may be to blame for hiding

6:42 Some of the more strategic thinking and this these last two episodes have sort of confirmed our theory for me yeah I think there's probably a bit more strategy bubbling under the not as much as you'd see on some of the other franchises but there is some strategy bubbling along there we've had some really interesting confessionals from Chris from Peg Leg where and Doug especially where you can see that they are actually thinking it through but it's not to the same level that we've seen the super fans on us Survivor particularly yeah definitely because I feel like with American Survivor everyone's trying to like you know split votes you know make all this crazy move a bulletproof plan but then it just becomes like the most simple basic plan because there's so many different plans like all right let's actually just stick to one but something that I love about this one is that people split votes just because why not you know back when Sabrina was vote out in the second episode it was you know four against four with Doug in the middle but one side just splitted their votes and even with Ash and ra you know it wasn't intentionally splitting of vote in an idol people just wanted to vote for

8:02 Ashley because they wanted to vote for Ashley right and I feel like there just so much fun because you get moments like the Cara moment in BR vs brwn where she cooked up the split vat like one of my favorite alltime Survivor moments exactly like it's so funny it is genuinely so funny and I feel like we will be getting moments like that potentially in the season well maybe not anymore because the strategy has definitely picked up people do know what a split for do V yes they do they do and I assume they've known it this whole time but we just haven't been able to see that sort of side of their strategy come out to play whether that's easing the audiences into Survivor audiences that perhaps have never seen it which is probably very smart on behalf of the editors because I think if the someone who'd never watched Survivor got launched into us Survivor Series 41 or 42 they'd go wait why what why do you what you know so yeah I think it's really smart I do feel like we're missing some key storylines though and key alliances but I think we need a little bit more information at this point but then again you and

9:22 I are very comfortable with the with the concept of Survivor with the with a lot of the game moves so we don't get confused by that sort of jargon I suppose yeah let's how I want to do this V is just talk about like tribe and tribe right like you know not necessarily episode and let's just discuss the tribes you know before the Swap and after the Swap and then we'll sort of go to the challenges are you okay recapping it like that you're the boss man I'll just I'll follow along with whatever ala mcky here to do it and I'm just a little [Music] girl so let's start off with the orange tribe the Katon tribe because going to tribal in the first episode so we see that you know Lani she's been sent to the other tribe and we get to see more of the of the Dynamics where you've got J and Rachel together and once again you kind of got Tanuki with everyone you know she's playing a fantastic social game Vis just with Matthew Lawrence Nathan and even Shai is like is talking to her right and you know I would like to make a pause

10:43 There and just talk about Shai yes so am I missing something about Shai because we've had everyone on the tribe seems against him like he's some sort of sort of pain in the ass yeah you know during that sort of mini tribe swap situation you got pegle and dug going I reckon I could beat shy you know he's setting him up as some sort of challenge beast and every time I've seen bless little Shai he's just sort of cruising along always looks Pleasant always is speaking to people in a pleasant way doing okay in challenges but not amazing yeah and yet everyone's like that this guy this guy sucks it's like when what did he do is he just like really awful in the middle of the night and just humming or like just lying there saying really racist things or something well let's go through the Arc of shy in his three weeks so episode one here he was too bossy and telling you he was bossy yes he did see that

12:03 He learned from that he adapted his game so now he's L but he's more quiet then people think he's too quiet and not socializing with everyone so there immediately him on the outs he chose to go in the One V one in like the mud pit Challenge and that they he nailed that even though he nailed it how dare he go before Nathan how dare how dare he right how dare you go before Nathan they were willing to take him out but because of the non-elimination to us they decided to change back their votes to Lani so they don't send a strong person to the other tribe yeah so apparently he's valuable at that point yeah at that point yeah which even then in the next episode I mean what's so crazy that he's able to SK by the episode he somehow slightly more valuable because Lawrence is somehow more untrustworthy than Shai but then in The Following episode after that the last one we had the tribes up one we have pigl and Doug saying we can take down Shai as if he's like the grand Mastermind the alpha leader of this K tribe he's like he's like the next Boston raw

13:24 Which is what Leilani's lie was when she got to the blue tribe she's like yeah Shai's running the show and everyone's like yeah we thought so when what strategic Mastermind Shai is running this game beast and he just the only shots of him I see he's just looking Pleasant yeah and I you know if Shai is watching this podcast I'm not sure he years but I want to know where he bought his green and black dotted Shir shirt oh like have you seen that shirt probably but I blocked it out like the narration oh he's a handsome dude as well yeah he's I mean you I personally don't swing that way yeah I became like a shy you know he seems lovely and everyone's just like Shai is the worst yeah it's like how it's like it's like Shai will breathe oxygen it's like how dare you breathe that oxygen you just took the oxygen away from Nathan so I'm a little bit confused I do feel like we've missed something in the edit whether Shai's just lying there at night just

14:44 Murdering puppies or something and we're just not seeing it I don't know and plus there's a lot of suspicion that he has the idol for some reason as well like all he him do is like you know he get us would he did talk about that now that there's an idol he is now starting to search for it right but obviously without a clue it's quite hard to find and especially with like a brand new version of survivors as well you've got no idea where right where with American survivors like oh it's definitely a tree right somewhere in the camp or something yeah ex UK even a Str Survivor they like to mix up their idols and where they hide them but with yeah a brand new season of Survivor like UK who knows what they're going be doing with the maybe they're trial councils maybe they're you know I hope so that would be sick dope that would be sick just like I know in All Stars like there was an idol placed in the trees behind the Torches and that was sick that was so sick and yeah but poor Shai poor Shai he's having a rough time I'm now I love an underdog I'm on team shy I have I don't know much about him but just

16:05 For the principal I hope he wins this whole thing yeah I mean I did promise you V at the end our last podast that is somehow like the George of the Season he's able to skate by he's able to do all these cool and awesome things all you know wins the season oh by you and your partner and anyone else who wants to come and ticket to see Winnie the Poo Blood and Honey too the seel and I'm holding you to that a new clip did just come out of Christopher Robins reaction to something you don't know what I have my suspicions on who because there's been a few secret character drops revealed in the last couple months but all right well it's an exciting film if Shai skates through I think he will I think he's a dark I'm Keen I mean yeah I mean so just before we go defi let's just quickly talk about Paul RA in the vote out so we I think that was fair yeah it was it was quite sad we had Jess came up with a great plan well I'm not sure it was that great because she assumes that Shai has the idol to put the votes between Shai and Lawrence which I was quite shocked

17:25 By just how far the outs lawen Lawrence's what's been your thoughts on Lawrence yeah I was surprised by that and I think I think sometimes I don't see Jess as a leader I see her as a follower which is exactly what Tanuki was getting at that which is why she you know the vote was on Rachel because Rachel had more of her own mind than Jess does yeah again I feel like some of this stuff is just sort of coming out the blue and I think it's less about Lawrence and Shai being anything other than themselves I think there's just that really strong group of four which they talk about more at the start of the second episode that everyone that the two people that aren't them are on the outs and I was kind of I feel like there's more there that we haven't seen of why that is why they see Lawrence remember Lawrence brought back the huge fish as well yeah ex there's a think there'd be a level of trust there but for some reason they're not they think he's got more to him than perhaps we've seen so they've made their core for and they're coming up with reasons to not break that up

18:45 I think yeah I 100% think so as well but I think when you're Tanuki as well you've got so many different strong social BS I feel like ra is the right Foote I think as sad as it is shy would be the easy next vote but then if you're in her position if it got down to those five people she's in a really tough spot because while she does have that four Lawrence is kind of in her pocket Matthew's in her pocket Jess is in Pocket it's like either way she's breaking off a close Alliance member but what if there's like a divide then they're going to feel betrayed by her right well that's the thing that happens you know everything's smooth sailing when the votes are easy and you've got your alliance intact it's when you actually need to start making those calls that people go maybe you're not as trustworthy as I thought it all starts to crack open yeah and we do see Tanuki and Lawrence and Matthew they come up with the plan to take out Rachel because as you said Jess is part of that Alliance and like they it seemed like they're trying to find excuses to F out ra that was n because she's not in the alliance yeah which let's face that's what it is yeah exactly

20:05 I thought Rachel was terrific in challenges and they've really they've lost a really strong challenge contender in Rachel I was always really impressed by her so I think it was a little bit of a mistake but hey not on the beach well do you think that there was potentially some re why she got voted out was because of the injury she may have popped with the hi bashing against Chris well I mean yeah but she looked fine from what we saw you know yeah and of course she would have been evacuated if I'm not even sure if she if she can have a concussion and stay on the island so which is something I thought about you know because a concussion has a level of monitoring that maybe the producers wouldn't be comfortable with leaving someone on an island sort of unmonitored by medical professionals so you know if she just copped a knock then that's all right you know it sucks and it would it looked like it hurt and it was one of those ones where I went oh that looks like it sucks that would have hurt both of them a lot but you know if she's not concussed if she's still AEL you know headache you'll be right walk it off exactly

21:26 I or You know as I like to say just grow up I mean I say this like if that was me I would have put up my hand and said actually I'm ready to go home like my head hurts I'm that gave me a fright I'm ready to go home I'm the biggest wimp I could my disclaimer again I could not do any of this at all my ego tells me that I can do it but in reality I definitely can't quite recently something that happened at work was so with my work shoes I pretty much like split open like that but I still wear them because I refused to buy like you know other work shoes and what happened was that I was moving like a pet and I wasn't watching I was going and the wheel caught in between the two shoes and normal normally the thing you do right is just lift off the P Jack M that it would be perfectly fine but now not me I was trying to like kick and weave my foot out you know which is obviously like I'm banging my toes under this wheel and my shoes ripping more and more I thinking oh God oh my gosh I don't have any common sense

22:47 I'm just [ __ ] more I've got no resilience I would have said I've got to go home and I would have taken the week off because I gone no I had a traumatic time at work I can't I can't yeah it's hard for me because you know I literally call myself Alpha you know because I've feel like all F friendship group so if I did that if I would be like you suck Alpha like all the all the best men call themselves Alphas exactly but you know there was definitely some we've definitely seen the rise of a really powerful Alpha on the other tribe but just before we get to them so we have this Alliance of Jess Nathan Tanuki and Matthew they're the awesome forsome and yeah what's your thoughts on this Alliance do you think that this could be a real powerful Alliance in the future I think I think there are a lot of feelings involved they're like we're best friends you know we're and it's like you this four people can't win yeah you do know that right and I think the between the four of them there are some feelings that are possibly going to get hurt and then we'd see the whole thing

24:08 Crumble so I think four is too big to be having those sorts of feelings I think you can have a Tome where there's a lot of like you don't cross me I don't cross you ride or die to the end no problem four is just too many there are only six on the tribe that's three episodes and it's got to fall apart if they have to trouble exactly and I just don't think they've got the Strategic mind to be able to go what three is within that four and what two is within that four yeah you know I think it would just well I do think that t like she's really been impressing me this entire series like if I if I did put money on a winner despite her having her intro package quite late into the season I mean it's a completely different edit to show so who knows how they're for doing it who knows but she's my winter pack at the moment you know I think she's play that strong of a social game she easily back to the end of L she seems to have an incredible Drive and yeah playing the social game if she can keep her feelings from getting hurt and making rash decisions she could go

25:28 Far yeah definitely and I think her and Matthew do sort of have like a great strategic or social like dynamic between them so I definitely think of that you know of the six was to become the four I feel like we see Matthew Tanuki at the top yeah they could be the two within the four yeah definitely but you know poor Nathan though we're not seeing any strategic chat coming from him you know whatsoever I feel like we see his abs a lot we see his AB bring up it's like we see and that must be all that matters no and you know I think his strategy at the moment could be just don't lose keep winning win which with someone his size he's more than capable of having that mindset you know he may not need to think of that sort of social or strategic stuff until a little bit later on yeah absolutely we do see though in the second episode that we have Doug and pig leg that swaps with Matthew to which again the two within the within the four yeah the two

26:48 Making that stronger than ever yeah so we have Shai J who was recently left out of the vote Nathan and Lawrence and then you've also got Doug and pigle with Doug having the idol do you think that there's a chance Doug and picnic make your way to the top of this TR I wouldn't be surprised because I think we're now with the original orange we're two on two and then two so it's almost kind of even and especially with Doug having an idol if pegle can sort of get over that betrayal a little bit which yeah you know I think is another bit of evidence that pegleg is thinking quite strategically because I feel like someone who's never seen the show would just would just go oh my gosh you got an idol that means like you and I like we're basically immune that's great whereas he went the angle of quite rightly going so what else aren't you keep like he was a part of that whole conversation about Ren and the idol so there is that betay Trail there so I think peg leg has quite a strategic mind on him he also has quite a good physical performance as well so

28:09 You know I think I think we've got a little bit of a two by two by two in the orange tribe at the moment and really it's about the shy and Lawrence Camp and the Nathan and Jess Camp going well who's more successful in picking up the votes from pegleg and Doug and I think that's how it would be able to work I don't think pegleg and Doug are going to be the targets and if they are the targets they've got an idol yeah I do think that Nathan has at least always kept a good relationship with Shai we do kind of see them to talking together quite a bit being around each other Shai seems lovely yeah and I do think that Lawrence he thinks he's still in the alliance he may not have any like great blood with Jess but even then I feel like Lawrence shy Nathan would stay three I feel like Jess Nathan and potentially Shai could stay as three I'm not sure what how Jess feels exactly about J shy but I feel like as a four I feel like they can definitely make it work I feel like Nathan set them all down be like look we've got a bad blood but let's just keep let's just take out the Blues and I feel like they'll be perfectly fine with

29:30 That yeah I mean yeah I feel like personally that might that's less likely but I think it's more likely going yeah that we'll have the split and then trying to pick up the other votes but I think I think it would be very dangerous for them to just go let's get out the blues one after another I think pegleg and Doug are more than ready for that to happen and they are more than ready to fight back against that so you know potentially they could attempt that four against two and it takes the original orange by surprise at just how Savvy Doug and pig leg are yeah absolutely and I do feel like two players from the blue tribe they were probably like the best pick to do this it is pig leag and Doug you know Doug I don't think they'd be suspecting the idol at all I don't think no they would even consider that to be a possibility yeah CU unless they've said but I don't think so I don't think they'd be ready for that no because nobody's found the idol on the orange trbe either so there's a chance that Doug could potentially find the orange TR Idol oh that'd be dope and how great of a moment would it be almost like the three well my personal

30:50 Favorite moment in American Survivor is when the three guys of Malcolm Edie and Reynold I did the final 10 but the all wearing Idols around their neck there's nothing anyone can do about it like imagine if D Pig do that it's like well we can't be vote it out yeah you have to turn on your own yeah and then and then not play it yeah and then not play it yeah so would been and I that would be just as remarkable as and I'm going off on a little bit of a branch here of Doug in the challenge when they're getting over the walls launching himself from one wall to the other oh yeah I saw that just jumping and I was just like that was dope that was so cool that was so and it just went like un you know that deserved its own slowmo like edit and it definely did I was just like man that's so cool yeah I was quite sad because that was only in like the background like it wasn't even focus point because I would totally like be like hey D can you like quickly do it again so we can film come over here and watch me do this cuz I think he was helping others sort of get over the wall so he was kind of the hanging back and then he was like I've got to catch up [ __ ] getting on the ground boom done

32:12 Yeah exactly I've been really impressed with do this whole season but I don't think telling pigle about the idol was a great idea what's your what's your thoughts on that a secret Idol is always the best Idol that's my that's my saying but I think it's a it was a little bit of a Hail Mary that they realized they're in a situation where they're two against four they were sort of gathering their Armory Gathering their troops Gathering their sort of plans of like okay so how are we going to approach being a four against to you know so I can see in a situation like that it was necessary almost because they really do need to band together as a as a Duo because it's not going to work otherwise if he was back on the blue tribe and just then no that's ridiculous don't tell anyone so I think he had to I think they were they were gathering what they had in the Armory and strategizing yeah definitely I think I think well like it could be a great tool I feel like probably wait till you have the second Idol and just be like hey

33:32 Look I found the ID on the blue tribe I know I didn't tell you but here's the orange one and then just give him the other Idol right and so then that way it's like you in a perfect world of course yeah obviously the perfect world but I feel like I know it's been said so many times but like idols and advantes can be great tools to build allies and trust and whatnot but at the same time that is something that they'll always hold over you well I mean could be there could be the play that Peg Leg runs to the orange four and say I'm a I'm a gun for hire and I know that Doug's got an idol and let's work on this together and Blindside him I'm one of you now I mean I don't see pegleg doing that doesn't seem to be his Vibe so I see it more as they're going to ride or die together and the idea is that if they catch wind of a name coming up between them they can then use the idol to medicate that yeah but then there's the next vote and the vote after that and so it's it is a shortlived strategy but I kind of think that's probably the best one they've got at the moment unless they find another Idol in which case sweet then they can just sort of

34:53 Just put on that we've both got Idols you guys have to figure it out and get the oranges fighting yeah they can play Both of the idols and take out the most strategic player of the season so far shy the challenge Beast the brilliant Mastermind the pleasant looking shy I feel so bad for him like what can he do to check this tiger there's nothing there's absolutely nothing live up live up to it maybe you know like well yeah I mean I think I think a merge he'd do quite well in you know I think hanging out for the M he doesn't seem to be aware that people are gunning for him at least we haven't seen any confessionals where he said I'm next on The Chopping Block I know my name's going around I know they're coming for me he so from the edit he seems to be blissfully unaware that he's next to go so I don't know if he if he could make buddies with the blue I mean that's what I would be doing if I C if he knows yeah going to Doug and pegleg and saying my tribe sucks let's

36:13 Get rid of them you know the same time they see him as a strategic Mastermind though they see him as one running the tribe right so it's like they wouldn't believe it maybe yeah exactly it's like no this is one of his great mischievous plays right like this is this is how he gets here yeah nauy shy poor shy I don't know what he could do it's just it'd be interesting to have some insight into how much he knows yeah definitely I mean he could maybe Mike Holloway has right to the end just every single individual Community but even then would people vote for him to I mean surely apparently he sucks so they wouldn't they'd be like I remember everything you told me about that so there's no way or there'd be people going you and I had the most beautiful friendship oh my God and then you just got shy sitting there looking Pleasant and the viewers going yeah when yeah when did this happen yeah it's like he would have played the most perfect game yeah it was no I think I brought this up with you on a call or something it's like something I would love is if Shai does make it

37:33 To the end and it's like the final tribal the votes being read is one vote away from winning and then it's just like a voice over like hang on hang on second you got like a WR scratch and everything and it's like you're probably wondering how enough we got to this position well let me show you it's just like a big like you know 20 minute Montage of him being the Strategic master mind the best social player of all time someone who's repr providing in camps and leading the strategy and you know planning all the vote offs and everything and then it just cuts right back to that moment and he's just sitting there looking Pleasant yeah exactly it's all part of his act it's all part of The Blindside or he gets voted out and there's and it comes out that he went on like what was Russell's nephew's name and he just went on rampage yeah Brendan haes Just sh out all the rice and getting all violent and we're like yeah oh there it is that's why they hated him I mean I personally don't think it's like that I think no there's obviously something more to shy than what we're seeing but he's probably assertive and maybe a bit abrupt maybe a little bit abrasive not interesting enough to show in the edit but enough that it they've got this real Kumbaya that forsome that Kumbaya

38:54 Vibe and Shai just doesn't fit into that but I'm team shy all the way I want to I want to see him make him all pay yeah like it's funny because I should not be team Shai because I need to save my money the same time the same time I also want to see Shai do really well and I also want to like hear your reaction about Winnie the Poo oh well I'll see it anyway I'll see it anyway but I would like to see that tribe split into three shy and or even potentially Lawrence so split into two the blue pick up some people and maybe start picking off the orange forsome that is the two that are still there yeah just I mean I do like Jess and Nathan but you know I feel like they're the more they're the least interesting out of the four though so it's like even though even though I like them it's like yeah well we're getting we you know we're getting rid of the fluff now and yeah we're going to see players go that we actually give a [ __ ] about so you know it's about to happen anything else you want to talk about the orange tribe overall before we move on no I've got Stacks to talk about the bles let's go over there me too me too I do just want to highlight One play

40:14 Specific because I know after last week There's been quite a bit of hate online about him how he's been misogynistic you know he was only targeting the women not the men and stuff like that but I be I'll be perfectly honest with you V if I did pick a top female male like player or you top two players of the season is tanuk and Lee straight up I think Lee's building an empire I think he's he literally had them all around him as he was giving a speech yeah and you don't see that too often on Survivor where everyone is and you look at their faces they're willingly you know I've seen things like that happen before and then a confessional goes oh brother you know but they were there going yes Lee tell us what to do you know he is setting him himself up to be a Godfather and he seems to be more than capable I think you know I think he is creating his totem of not being the only physical player left and I think voting out the women was part of that strategy of yeah I don't think it was about them being women I think that's about him surrounding himself with SH meat Shields
