0:00 Hi welcome back to the nullifier take we've got a very special person my co-host who's been missing an action for the last couple of episodes she came in did the premiere with me and then decided i'm off for a break i'm on holiday chris has worked me too hard in this premiere episode i need a break from this chris has got too much energy but i'm very happy to say michelle's back [Applause] i'm good i mean i went on my holiday from school obviously because i'm a teacher so we went back today actually just to get the classrooms ready but it was nice to absolutely get away you know just to not be home after so many weeks at home last year yeah and you know luckily you've still got a teacher team in the race so you've still got a horse in the race there you might still get a teacher team win the season it's looking a little bit shaky at this stage but i'm glad i'm glad you had a great break i'm you know i'm glad it looks like you're full of energy and ready to get into this episode obviously we've had some special guests that have filled in for you know special thanks to riley snuffed who was on here and then also drew angelman who normally talks about the challenge on the angel cake channel both of those guys have filled in i know you watched a little bit

1:20 Of the recaps and you were in the chat sometime as well whenever you could be when we were recapping is there anything that you felt like you know you guys just missed it on this one you dropped the ball what's your hot takes for the first couple of episodes i guess coming back now is there anything that we've missed out on and you know is the hot take that i was right about lulula all the way from the start i don't know you really like them junior they're okay i mean they're not i haven't you know been enamored by them but yeah they're cool no you guys you know you covered it pretty well even though i think snuffed he hadn't watched much of amazing race before but even i think people who podcast they're pretty good at being able to break down a show even if they haven't seen it so he did really well and drew last week did really well and his american accent keep kept making me think of actually someone on survivor and i couldn't work out who it was but no you guys did a good job can you imagine we actually had an american talking about an american show here on the nullified tank but it does help when you've got someone from america definitely watching the show as well and obviously someone who's there who gets a bit of a feel for how the public is receiving this season from what i've heard michelle this is a very popular

2:40 Season now i know online under the super fans it's definitely it's 50 there are people that are complaining i think it was always going to be a season that was going to be up for a hiding to nothing because of all the limitations that the season had coming back and having to stop losing four teams as well but overall when you look at the statistics the casual sadly and i know nobody wants to hear it that listens to podcast the casuals do make the dial move because you need to get casuals involved and the episodes have been up by 30 in america episode on episode which is very promising for the amazing race are you surprised by that i am actually 30 is quite a chunk of people and i don't know whether the holdernesses have brought a lot of that chunk in you know them having millions of fans and i know a lot of the people who have joined some of the groups their fan groups they're new to amazing race and they've said underneath the posts oh we love the whole nesses we wanted to watch it because of them so i think a lot of the fan bases come from them which would really oh the poor super fans because they really don't like people who are internet sensations

4:00 On any of the reality shows so they don't they're not going to take to this lightly and they'll probably say it's for some other reason that it's gone up 30 but i can't i can't discredit their holinesses for bringing people in on the topic of the holiness is you know i was very lukewarm like sometimes i feel like they overplay overact a little bit to the camera which can be hard to watch you know you know when they're turning it on for the camera but it is their profession it is what they do for a living so you can't really hate on them for playing into those characters but i did feel like this episode i warmed up to them even more a little bit around when they had to go do the bungee jump you know and you saw pen in tears afterwards crying and saying like i kind of imagined losing kim here and having to live my life without her you know it kind of humanizes them a little bit so i do feel like i'm warming up to them a little bit i agree and i mean i know if you or i were on one of these reality shows we would know even though we're not on the internet every day we would know sort of what to say to the camera what not to say definitely what not to say and even though we're not as well versed as them i think we'd know what to say but they're very good at

5:21 Portraying themselves in a in a very good light oh yeah they know why they were cast on this show they're the elder elderly couple the one that's got a family at home you know i knew when kim was talking about jumping down saying hey i should be taking the kids into school that would have annoyed you to no end when she said they're playing into the mother stereotype and i'm like just jump off the mountain jump off the dam stop saying stuff like that get to work don't put us in a box you know but you know like i said then and you said this as well they know their role they know what they're there for and they're kind of playing into that stereotype and giving us a show at the end of the day i think that if i was able to get cast on one of these shows people would hate me i would be like the character person that would say obnoxious things and they'd be like this is chris this is who he is as a person we've now defined him as this character no i don't think he'd do that you wouldn't be stupid enough to make yourself obnoxious i don't know like i feel like the editors could do it like i feel like the editors could do anything to you great example this episode is the flight attendants you know being throughout this whole leg the editors took a dunk on them because you keep seeing how confident they are in their own ability oh we've got this thing figured out we know who's the best person is going to navigate it's kayla absolutely is trash at navigating

6:41 To the to the actual checkpoint and throughout this whole episode and then they keep talking about you know how oh we just hope lulu and lala's doing okay in the meantime is absolutely beating them and it could have been very innocent but it's you know with the dodo music and everything playing at the same time it's portraying them in a certain way so i feel like the edit could make you look very obnoxious if they wanted to do that they could do that to you yeah and i think lulu and lala were the ones who said why do we keep discounting ourselves why aren't we having faith in ourselves yeah so maybe that's why they've got the edit that they have because of how they are thinking of themselves anyway yeah they i mean lulula to me is the underdog team and that's why i really enjoy them because they were the hot mess team i'll be honest the first two legs definitely the hot mess team i took a lucky pot shot and saying that i would team up with one of them the one that was the more aggressive one they tried to get the other one to forget about a x i forgot which one there was but you know i kind of just said that as tongue-in-cheek but one of the things that i did see with them in the first couple of legs was that they've got a lot of heart like they are there and they're determined they're not going to give up like i really am enjoying this underdog story this more focused lulu and lala team coming back with

8:02 A purpose saying that they're racing now not only just for themselves but also for other people that may have lost a loved one in this pandemic and i'm sure there's a lot of people that are watching the show that can relate to their situation and that are getting behind them at the moment and they got second place this episode crazy to see them do so well i know i was so surprised after that debacle with the sausages what the hell yeah i mean the worst one let's get into the first one of the roadblock let's get into the roadblock for this episode so the roadblock here is again a high challenge and you know cheri is going to get done dirty for the second time in a row she's the person who's got to go do this because akbar is too heavy you've got to feel for her oh my god like what happened there why isn't he doing it the poor woman just she's just standing there going oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god and i felt for them so bad because i've done it and it's just the fear and when they were standing on the precipice waiting to go forward i'm still i'm basically standing there with them thinking don't jump don't jump don't jump it's awful it is so awful i cannot even tell you how awful it is i would do it

9:22 As a tandem jump because i'd have someone to hold on to but having nothing to hold on to and just falling is the most insane awful feeling it's okay once you reach your bottom and then you're flying up and down and then you're okay but that first jump is just so bad and the screaming i think it was who did the jump out of raquel and kayla who the one yeah completely i think it was kayla did it because she took her glasses off well she was screaming before she jumped so she like i think they said go and then she started screaming before she went even off the platform so i was laughing at that yeah i mean listen i've never ever done bungee jumping in my life but i remember even as a kid watching this like when i was like 10 12 whenever the first couple of amazing races started back in the day and they used to always have this leg where you had to go and do a bungee jump and i always used to think to myself i would never in a million years bungee jump unless it's for a million dollars like if it's for a million dollars i could get myself to do it i'm not afraid of heights but there's something about jumping with your head down first that just really freaks me out like i mean even if it was like just a normal jump like i could probably do that for fun where it's like the swing ones where

10:42 Your feet goes down first but having to yeah but having to jump with your head down first it just freaks me out and i've had so many opportunities michelle over in new zealand to do bungee jumping because bungee jumping was invented as far as i remember in new zealand aj hackett who set up a bungee jump in sydney way back when and i actually worked for them for the weekend and anyone who worked for them could have a free jump so the only reason i did it was because it was free and if something's free i do it's just ridiculous so you'll do it for a million i'll do it because it was free i would i would never do it for free i mean i've had so many opportunities to go and do bungee jumping here if i wanted to like we even have an auckland the sky tower that you can jump off there's a bungee jump from the sky tower never had never had any interest in it you can jump off the harbour bridge that goes between the north shore and auckland over here as well never had an interest in it and then they mentioned in this episode that this bungee jump was the second highest bungee jump in the world do you know what the height which one is the highest in the world i was wondering if it's the one down in new zealand or the one that's over in the one that they've been to oh i don't think the one that scott jumped off they've been to this one before they've been to this one before

12:02 But i did my homework i did my homework and the reason that i did is because i remember growing up in south africa it used to be told to me that the highest british bungee jump in the world is in south africa and it is it's called the blue cross blue cross bridge which is the blue mountain bridge basically and it's somewhere in the eastern cape and it's the highest one in the world so again i grew up in a country where i could have done this stuff never had an interest in it i live in a country where every possible place you can bungee jump off they would find a spot for you to bungee jump off still haven't done it and i'll be honest with you it was fun to see people overcome their fear and do it this episode it always is fun to me to see people get past that because you know kim really did not want to do it like she couldn't focus on anything on the way there and then sheree as well like i really felt for cherie having to step up and do this again knowing that akbar is probably going to be very critical of her if she can't pull through but he did give her credit afterwards and he was very proud when she managed to pull it off it's awful it's just so awful when you're standing there it's nothing i was ever interested in i don't even i don't even know how i got a job with them but seriously i if you're ever going to do it you need to do a tandem if everyone ever pressures you into doing it do a tandem

13:22 Because then you can hold on to something yeah 100 we've got chris dixon here in the live chat so far saying that michelle is looking very blonde tonight and chris is looking like a male model a little bit of an inside joke for those who are watching this camera and saying i don't see it chris i don't see it why are you putting that up there i would like to believe that i'm good-looking enough to live in switzerland probably not the case a lot of good-looking people this league in switzerland have you enjoyed seeing switzerland as this destination that they're going through at the moment it's two legs that they've been doing already in switzerland sort of keeping in line with how they did two legs in england as well in leg one and leg two i love switzerland i've i haven't been i've been there a few days but not for any length of time but i love the just the people there and the amazing views that you get in switzerland and i've i've enjoyed the lakes there yeah i think it's beautiful i think the landscape's beautiful like pin said as they were driving you know if i look outside i might get you know lost than that rather than focusing on the race so beautiful landscapes for them to move through it does remind me a lot of new zealand with all the mountains and how green it is especially the south island looks very similar to that so beautiful to see on the race and i'm

14:42 Very i did say it last week as well but i'm surprised by the fact that we are getting to see a lot of movement people without masks you know seeing people talk to other people on the streets like a lot of it's good to see because i thought it might be a very different looking race with very limited interactions with locals which has for me always been a big part of the race you want to see them interact with locals as they're doing these different legs yes and i know they didn't wear masks with a few of the locals and i know that some of the locals did take rap tests or tests before they were allowed to actually do the activities with them so they were all very safe while they were doing everything and i assumed there'd be more mass squaring but i'm glad there isn't and they actually took the precautions and did the testing so that we could get something that was relatively normal for us to watch so what you're thinking is that aruna natalia as they got lost they had a couple of rapid tests and there and their fanny pack with them and they were walking up to those locals and saying hey do a quick rapid test fast and then afterwards you let us know which direction do we need to go and they found out that they were 50 kilometers in the wrong direction as well why did they keep driving like seriously get out of the car and just check even you

16:02 Know the autobahn's over there you can't go 50 k's without seeing somewhere you can ask like oh my god i'm worried for them like i think that for arun and natalya like i think a few people were very happy when they escaped elimination just barely in the first leg i really wanted the police guys to do better i felt really bad seeing them go twice but again i think one thing that this season has shown us michelle is that if you're not made for the race and you don't have that skill set you're probably gonna end up last every single leak it's very few times that we've seen races in the past you know go and it's normally these great races that have one bad leg that might go to the end of the pack they get saved and then they still end up doing well some of them have won in the past but it's a certain type of racer that can do that i don't think karen and natalya have got the core basic skills needed sadly i know they're super fans they might even listen to this and if they do listen to this sorry i like you guys as people but it looks like you guys are struggling in the race i know and a lot of the a lot of the fans especially not the casuals they're higher up than casuals but they always say let's bring back a race full of first outs and a lot of us say that's just going to be the

17:23 Absolute mess because the great tv though watching 11 teams you don't know what they're doing like and this has provided people with well the problem is that when the two teams came back they had to do a u-turn and it wasn't shown it obviously didn't change the placings of the group and that's why it wasn't shown but obviously that kept them down the bottom of the pack and i don't know was it a u-turn or was it a speed bump i think it was a speed sorry speed bump it was a speed bump with a big green it looked like a giant green cabbage it was very strange but it gives it gives people an idea that maybe the people who are voted out or not voted out sorry eliminated lower down like first or second in the whole season can't exactly give another good season and actually perform well i'm not i'm not you know what i'm trying to say i fully i fully appreciate what you're saying a hundred percent and just no 100 and i think that marcus is sort of alluding to that here in the chat as well it says there's a clear divide between the

18:43 Top teams and those who are at the bottom currently in the race as well and i think that we're seeing it and the thing here is that we thought by losing the other male predominantly male team it would weaken dusty and ryan but dusty and ryan has consistently been able to perform really well on their own and it also looked to me you know if i had my little i had my little magnifying glass on this episode i noticed that there's a little bit of an alliance between kim and penn and dusty and ryan so it seems like they have found another team they can work with now it doesn't mean that kim and penn wouldn't be happy if they do end up losing their next leg and they're not in the race anymore i think everybody would be very happy but it does seem like they do still have some allegiances there that they're working on the top teams are working together which means that they probably will continue to stay at the top and i think that for some of the die-hard amazing race fans and i don't want to speak on all of them i think some of them have been really annoyed by the fact that in recent seasons alliances have started taking over whoever does really well and then it pretty much dictates who the top four top three teams are going to be because there's these strong alliances that just cut certain teams out that are never going to have a chance like aruna natalya they're that far behind i don't see them coming back in because they're not even in an alliance i don't think anybody's going to work with them because they don't have any credibility

20:03 Or any cv to show that they're good enough to have as an alliance member at this stage true and they're going to be last out of the next episode i think it's two teams in three teams in themselves leaving the plane so i it's not looking good for them yeah so we've got here iga saying in the chat first to last can happen very rapidly which is true and i think we might have a little bit of foreshadowing even here in this episode that i'll talk about a little bit later as we continue on to the next checkpoint that they had to do when they had to go to the detour but also want to acknowledge jimmy here in the chat saying i would love to see the bottom teams come in first for a change ryan and dusty look unstoppable at this moment obviously we will talk about some of the preview for next episode which looks very interesting and we might see a little bit of a shake-up there as well but let's get on to i guess one of the things we haven't spoken about michelle is a big interesting point even before we get to the detour is how they're getting between legs between the roadblock between the detail at the moment they don't have the luxury like other amazing race seasons have had of only public transport being able to get a taxi who can easily navigate for them there's a lot more emphasis now being put on them to be the navigators themselves to drive themselves to where they need to get they did

21:23 Make it slightly easy on them giving them automatic cars here no stick shift for this specific leg but it's been a pretty big equalizer because navigation skills have become important and being able to drive yourself from point a to point b is important and some teams are doing better with that than others i think that the flights attendance is also shown here in this leg that they have got some serious weaknesses there and that if they don't get their navigation sorted out they may be in danger sooner than what we thought because i think most people thought they're a top three team i know well i they had the potential to be and you know what they can still pull it off it's just do americans not really drive anywhere like in australia we like for our holiday we didn't take any planes but we're regularly driving vast distances and where we know how to use a map we don't really look at gps that often or things like that i don't know do they not use maps as much as we do here i they seem really clueless with it with a map and it's a piece of paper and it tells you where to go i find it extremely interesting but i know this is so stereotypical now but the guy who's been in prison for 10 years

22:43 He's the navigator on the on the maps and he's not been anywhere i know he's traveled a little bit since he came out of prison but still he's an absolute gun with a map in his hand and he's able to navigate and get dusty from point a to b because the navigator is the most important person and that's not the driver he's very cluely individual and i think he pick anything up really fast but you know what i know males tend to be better map readers and females and i'm sorry for any females watching it's just how it is i know reading a map i can read them out but i have to turn it around to the actual way that we're going whereas my husband can actually hold it up the right way and know that we're going this way but the maps going this way and i can't handle that but i need the map to be you know around the right way for where the car's traveling but men just seem to be better at that sort of skill yeah it's interesting because i think i spoke to that in the first episode that we recap where i mentioned that when i was in london it was before smartphones and all that so i had to actually learn to read a map and get along with a map and be able to find different spots in london by doing that and it is a skill it's not something that everybody can pick up you think it's easy you think oh you know it's easy if i can do it on my gps on google you know i can very easily just read a map but it's not because you

24:03 Get out of the map and then you've got to find the next section the right page that's going to be the next bit of page so it's not just this massive map that you can easily look at you've got to like turn pages to the right number like oh page 55 will be a4 which is going to be the next block on the map and it's actually it takes a bit of savvy for someone that's not used to it and i think to answer your question i do think that probably it's not just an american thing i mean i feel like you know we've all become so used to technology being there it's a crutch for us all to be able to just go like i mean i'm guilty of it now i don't use a map very often anymore anywhere i want to go in new zealand i can use google and i can just put it in google and my gps will tell me exactly where to drive and it will actually change the direction that i need to drive as i'm driving it to give me the shortest way to the next place so you know raquel and kayla did actually navigate correctly but they took the longer road they went through all of the towns and things like that instead of staying on the main highway which would have gotten them to that first checkpoint a lot faster and that meant that they had to play catch up for the rest of the leg and these people are having map problems i'm thinking i'm always thinking poor phil how long is phil gonna have to wait at the damn pit stop for these people who can't get anywhere and he's gonna have this huge you know

25:24 Time span between the first and the last team i don't even know what that would have been this time how far were ryan and dusty and arun and natalia apart like i'd really love to know yeah because it was very interesting how the shake-up of it worked as well at the mat they've got different teams that are going to take different times to be able to move from there they're going to have to team one and two in the same cluster and then team three to five in the same cluster and then six is in a completely different time zone or time cluster and it could also be because of the difference in time that they got there could play into that and also it makes me wonder if there is going to be a speed bump in this next one because we didn't hear anything about a speed bump he just mentioned you're gonna your disadvantage is that you've gotta you've gotta take off later than the others but then again it could be the same case of there is a speed bump they didn't mention it we're not going to see it in the show because they're going to be that far behind and they're just going to be the last team next week and it's no use even trying to explain it which i would much rather know about the speed bumps to be honest i would like to see it even if it's just for a second to say they're going to a speed bump we don't even need to see them do it but at least me as a viewer i want to know every single little thing that is happening in the leg so that i can put two and two together as to why they're so far behind why can't they catch up because i mean myself and drew were critical of the police officers the previous episode because they were

26:44 That far ahead of everyone and then somehow fell behind yeah and it's because we didn't know that there was a speed bump and that probably killed them and that's why cherie and akbar go back in the race i know that's one of the things that they start taking out parts of challenges or the whole challenge like they did because it doesn't affect the order however we want to soak up the entire race and everything everybody does but they have to keep to time constraints and things it's better just to you know elongate out the detour or the roadblock so that we can see more of that but i would rather yet like you see a little bit of what the others had to do yeah or just tell us them reading the clue saying they're heading off to the speed bump we don't even need to see it but just let us know that there is a speed bump in there myself drew and chantal had a massive conversation about the challenge all-stars to finale where there was a whole bunch of things in the finale that was edited out that completely didn't make sense now the challenge hasn't gone to that degree but still you as a as a viewer feel bamboozled by it you feel like they're pulling the wool over your eyes you know and it's there's actually more there than what you can see but i do want to get into the detour so the detour here michelle is an interesting one you get two options you can either do the wine and the chestnuts or you can do

28:04 Making the sausage as one of the two options here with the information that you had if you were to get to this detour what would you have done would you have gone for the physical one or would you have done the sausage are you good in the kitchen oh god i've never made sausages however i've done a race in sydney which had a lot of stairs in it literally only a third of what they had to do and we had to go up and down it quite a few times but i don't know my one time i was literally crawling up the stairs i think sherry was doing at one point i was crawling up the stairs trying to get to the top and i was heaving and going oh my god i can't do this so i would just have flashbacks of that and think i'm not doing those stairs not again and would probably go for the sausage however my partner who i've applied with not my partner my husband my race partner she would want to do the race up the stairs so yeah i'd have to just suck it up yeah it'd be interesting i would definitely do the physical stuff like it's funny being from south africa we have got a massive culture when it comes to what we call boudivores which is farmers sausage and whenever we do a barbecue which is called the bryants of africa you well i know that south africans south african survivor there you go and so africans are very

29:24 Particular about their bra it's not a barbecue is a chips flavor in south africa or crisps of you an american but you know a braai is a barbecue in south africa and they're very particular about this now whenever they do a bride there's always some sort of sausage and you know you'd think i would know how to do this i would have had no clue i think i could have it didn't look too complicated of a rope block to do if you figured out the rhythm of exactly how it worked i think that you could get through that pretty quickly and it did look like lulu and lala made up a lot of time and nearly caught up to ryan and dusty by doing that so i was quite impressed by that also just wanted to say welcome to our very first twitch person here we're also live on twitch and youtube at the same time jackson lord asking what year was the amazing race what year did it start i believe michelle you're the expert here but correct me if i'm wrong it was back in 2001 i think it's one of the earliest reality shows at the end of the year it was god october november it had to be in october 2001 yes and then they did two seasons a year for quite a long time and now we're back to one season a year yeah that was i remember that it used to be the same as survivor it was a lot of i think it was a lot of popularity when it first came out a lot a lot of million people millions of millions of people watched it and it used to be two seasons here which was always very exciting

30:45 To watch now the other part of this specific detour is running up the staircase with the wine bottles with the chestnuts which very fit players like chris dixon has said that he felt bad for the cramps that happened after the task now obviously we only saw one person actually cramp up and it was rusty who we know is super fit i mean rusty and ryan spoke in the previous episode about the fact that they have done some training at altitude in preparation for this race as well so these guys have been training and it still got them because there was a lack of water we don't know how many hours they were going up and down there but that staircase look insane oh it looks so awful and there is sherry saying let's take all 12 bottles i'm like are you kidding me she said i can take all six and he's going i can't like it that's just not good and then they get even less and then it even yeah she drops one on the way up because it's just you know you can take them if you're just walking down the street yeah sure take six bottles but when you've got that much physical exertion you know your hands become weak everything becomes weak trying to just get up yeah and as someone that's done a lot of spot and obstacle course

32:05 Races and half marathons and that type of stuff i like i used to love competing in them i haven't done so for a long time because you australians have got all the best competitions and since i can't fly at the moment i'm kind of stuck over here in new zealand and can't compete as much as i used to but as someone that's done that like i've physically have gotten to the point where i've had cramps and i tell you what it's the weirdest feeling when you're in the middle of a race like that because your mind is telling you i'm good i'm ready to go but your body is telling you i'm not going to listen to you and nothing that you can't out think a cramp like you're going to go down and you know ryan being there from in that moment saying has anything i can do for you and being very supportive but can't do anything and i think it came down to these races not being sufficiently hydrated when they were doing that leg like i didn't see any of them drinking water or anything like that we don't know how hot it was but you know ryan had to strip down from his sweatpants to his shorts while he was doing it so he wasn't appropriate i think he was around october in switzerland so it's not that hot but i remember being over there in september and it was still summer sort of temperatures i was in short sleep t-shirt things like that so it could have been a warmer kind of day chris is also asking here did phil seem a little bit off his game at times when he was speaking

33:25 Not the entire league but he started a couple of times i felt i didn't really notice phil yeah i didn't i looked out for that yeah i look out for that next time i didn't i didn't see phil be any different i did feel like he was he was a bit like he had that disappointed father vibe when he was talking to arun and natalya like you know i'm really disappointed in you guys you should be doing better than this i got that from him more so than anything else and i think that's worse than full scolding them that he really wants an older person to win and iron fits the mold as to kim and pen and i think he's just disappointed he's like come on guys come on and do this now you know like i said you know lulu and lala definitely my favorite team of the season really enjoyed this leg of them they get to the to the part where they have to do the sausage and they say they're basically i think becomes become the underdog team because of the fact that they say hey we're doing this for everybody that has lost someone in this pandemic we've lost someone you know our grandmother showed us how to do some of this they get through it they do pretty well even though they both say they really hate making food at home that's not their forte they're not going to be making any sausage soon i think one said they might do it for thanksgiving and then they'll laugh about it so it's probably not going to happen but i

34:45 Found it really funny where you know lulula they do know they have got their priorities straight when you're in a foreign country and i assume they're single work in a few minutes in the leg to at least flirt as you're going you know if you see somebody that's cute let them know and i thought that was a pretty funny moment to see both lulu and lala really having a bit of a flirt there with the locals and interacting i enjoy the interactions that you have with locals on the race and like i said they're just growing for me as a team i'm really enjoying seeing them and i hope they can find a way to you know if they don't win it i hope that they're there until the end and we get to see them in the whole race yeah because they're entertaining and you know what a lot of the fans don't like the whole flirting thing using this advantage yes as an advantage and it's not the men who say it's mostly a lot of women who don't like it but jeez if i was on i'd be using whatever i can to you know kind of you know some favors or you know or go this way or you know give some tips of how to do things better of course you'd be doing that yeah 100 you've got to use what's at your disposal i mean if i was ryan i would be running around in shorts everywhere and showing off my calves every time i need to get a ticket to get in somewhere you know i'd be like hey you know

36:05 Let me just pick up this pen or something in front of them and try and get into the ticketing system before anyone else you know let kim see your calves before you do rock paper and scissor maybe that'll confuse her you win the rock paper and scissors you can jump first and the bungee jumping i'm just i'm just shocked i'm just shocked that fans are like they nitpick on certain things i feel like and for me for me that this was nothing i mean what advantage did they get by that little innocent interaction that they had with this guy like i mean he didn't give them any more no yeah it didn't happen in this episode it didn't happen on the fan pages this episode but it's happened in the past especially when they've had you know someone say look i'll show you where to go and the girls have followed them things like that but it didn't happen last week no if i was to do this race and it was you and me michelle out there doing the race you would be asking the directions and the favors like i would know how life works i'd be like the blonde girl she's gonna go and ask for the favor to see where we're going to go with the directions i mean you've got to use that to your advantage and if you're two guys doing this race in general guy teams do really well they win most of the seasons that they're on there has to be some advantages so what's the advantage are we not going to like that men are physically more capable of running up a mountain

37:26 Than women should they be should we hate that about them because you've got to use your physicality and what's your disposal to be able to get a hidden race like you know the composition of your team means different things and different advantages that comes with that and also i wanted to say something about the when they were running up the stairs and they had their backpacks on i would have asked at the top can i leave my backpack here while i go back down because obviously it's all staged they've got the camera crew up there nothing's going to happen to the backpacks you're not in a public arena you're not in a big square or anything i would have personally left my backpack up there taking my bum bag with you know with the with the passport and everything else in it but left my bag up there so i wouldn't have to carry it up and down up and down that's a great point and i 100 agree with you when i saw that i had flashbacks of when the season that jessica and cody and i know jessica and cody is not a very loved team by the amazing race fans for whatever reason and i will defend them maybe that's my hot take because i saw them at big brother and i knew the abuse and bullying that they had to go through in that season to get onto the amazing race so it was such a small break between seasons that when cody was there i don't even fully think he knew where the hell he was half of the time

38:46 Because he just like a week ago came out of a house for like 90 plus days or he was locked away from civilization and he couldn't trust anybody in that game because they all betrayed him and now he's with another bunch of strangers obviously he's going to be a little bit awkward you know and be like i don't know if i could trust anyone but i digress and i had a point to why i brought them up i remember in their season whenever they used to do these legs like cody and jessica were very good at like putting their they're not the only team it's just the one that's freshest in my mind they would always put their bag down and do a run without it and i'm wondering is there maybe a covert protocol that came into the season that said you're not allowed to take your bags off or leave it anywhere because someone else could touch it and that could be a risk was this maybe like a protocol that they brought in to keep the races safe where they said you're not allowed to put your bags down because to me it would have been the obvious thing to do yet not a single one of the four teams who did that part of the detour did it good question i don't think it would have been part of the protocol because they're all getting tested all the time as is the entire crew and they all know that they don't have covert at that point in time so i wouldn't think it would be part of protocol but we'd need production to say something yeah it's

40:06 Interesting it's just i noted the exact same thing and i'm glad you brought it up because to me it made sense to do that yet no one did it and it was interesting to see the amount of teams that ended up taking that challenge over doing the food one a lot of people didn't trust themselves doing that and specifically shari and akbar again here in this leg it's where we see them really sort of having a go again at each other really struggling but i think this is their communication language i think a lot of fans are going to look at this and say oh you know this is toxic relationship but i don't know but you can clearly see they understand each other because when they're talking afterwards it doesn't look like there's no hard feelings they just understand that the competitiveness comes out they've been married they know each other and it's i'll fight these women on the fan page like they're forever saying oh he's an abuser i'm like oh my god it's just marriage i'm sorry you must be in a marshmallow in unicorn's marriage because or you're single yeah it's good you could be single as well and not know that happens after a while just you get frustrated with each other you get angry with each other and then you just know each other like he was so proud of her when she jumped off you know the

41:26 Damn but you can see he's got the love there by what he says he's not this abusive person and i just these women and he is trying i feel like he's really trying and he came back this season like you can see he's really trying not to be toxic in the way that he's communicating with her it's there is a problem though because they're both competitors and they've both been i think what a lot of people don't realize is that you know i can relate in the scenes with karate i do karate for years and years and years we always have a joke about whenever i bring this up on the challenge podcast but i used to compete at a certain level that i had certain expectations of myself so if i put myself in an arena where i'm competing i'm one of like i'm really joking in the podcast but when i'm in the race i would be super competitive i would want to win the whole thing otherwise i wouldn't even want to waste my time going there and i think that if you've got that certain level as a first of like a division one basketball player she was a division one basketball player he knows what she's capable of and he's trying to push her to reach that but i also think and again this is me as an observer looking from the outside i could be i could have the complete wrong take on this i just think she's got it in that point in life like some people do where they just don't want to compete at that level anymore they just want to relax a little bit more and she's a mom now she's relaxed and she feels confident in the role

42:46 That she currently has in life she doesn't really necessarily want to be that 20 year-old division one basketball female player that just dunks on everyone you know and akbar is expecting her to still be that person which is a bit unrealistic but it's because he knows what she's capable of that's true yeah i never thought of it in that way that's true yeah i mean in the chat just a funny one here christ's in the chat saying new drinking game take a shot every time chris brings up jess and cody well that's only the first time it might have been the second time i feel like i feel like i brought it up last week as well oh really yeah so i do i don't know yeah people's competitiveness can change over time yeah and i mean people change like you know i'm not that like i would be i think if you put me in a competitive environment i would be competitive but i don't seek it out necessarily anymore you know like i don't feel like i've got anything to prove in life at the moment i just i run my own race i do my own thing i don't think it's healthy yeah i don't think it's healthy to have that chip on your shoulder every day you know getting out on i think that's where road rage happens you know like you're trying to get ahead of someone else on the roads it's like just you know bastards in my way honk at him i don't have that anymore i was like that when i was younger but you get to a point where you're like no i'm just coming down well sometimes in sydney traffic i'm like

44:06 Sorry you're coming up on the inside lane you want to get in sorry you're not getting in i've been waiting in this lane forever and then i'm competitive i mean yeah put me on the race i'm putting me in any competition i'm competitive yeah monopoly it's on even a monopoly you know i'm going to buy every single property and you're going to be renting you know that's it everything i'll own everything but no so i mean when you look at the specific rice you've got these teams running up and down there they've got of all wines michelle they've got merlot which is my favorite wine i love merlot i'm cheeky for a red i'm cheeky for a merlot if i was to do this i thought kim had the right strategy and saying let's do the wine one because i want to have a sip when i get to the top and it didn't look like any of them got anyone when they got there i would have definitely asked for a sip of the of them i got there because i'm sure they've got great one yeah they're right next to france right so i mean they must have some superb melo oh my god yeah that's funny i was mostly thinking oh red wine if they drop it's just going to be a mess see that's the mum in me thinking oh my god i don't know if she got it all over her or not but yeah i will stairs the glass there's people running up and there's glass on the stairs i'm like stop being

45:26 Stupid sure what are you thinking about i like i mean i will admit for like a split second you know it's on a podcast now so it's out there i did also think the same thing i was like oh no the glass broke these people walking up right behind them and this is not safe but i'm sure they you weren't the only one oh that's good i'm not the only strange person it just shows we're adults you know we've grown to that point where we're like thinking of consequences you know of your actions but it was fun to see them go up and down i don't think that it changed anything in the race there was no leads that have changed when they went up and down this the staircase even though sheree badly tried to get all of the wine up in one go which was never going to be a good strategy and akbar finally got her to go back and put some of that wine bottles back so they could do the sensible thing because the boys couldn't even do all of them in one go going up and down those staircases and we do see the teams here at the end finishing in a very predictable i would say order except for lulu and lala that came into second which i don't think if we came into this episode we would have thought they were going to place as high but rusty and dust ryan and dusty they get number one rusty and dusty ryan and dusty gets number one at the pit stop they also win the travelocity gnome holiday which is great to go to the island of dominica

46:46 Which ryan didn't know where that was i don't know where it is to be honest do you know where the island of dominica is i'm thinking it's somewhere in the caribbean but really not sure i should have looked i should have searched i wonder if logan is watching this five minutes he would impress that i'm looking for dominica caribbean i don't want to do city on my computer when i'm trying to look at my computer so i was going to use my phone i'm like see i was right i was in the caribbean this is how we cheat on the podcast we just get we very quickly type it in on the side and we and we sound like a professional like we knew where it was but when ryan said he didn't know where it was i didn't know either i do hope that he does get to go with dusty and they do get to enjoy that holiday obviously with a lot of uncertainty around the world but it does seem like the rest of the world is slowly but surely opening up more than us and australia and new zealand i feel like we're a little bit more close than the rest of the world yeah but even last week when they gave money as the first place win i thought oh maybe they're going to give cash for all of them now because no one can go anywhere well safely and all people don't feel confident to and i thought maybe they'll give cash for the rest but then they gave a holiday yeah so the twins are second place great finish for them really happy for them and how well they're

48:06 Doing here going to be team 20s until the end of this season they're now my official favorite team i am all in for team lulu and lala michelle you're gonna have to hear it from me the whole who's your favorite team this season and why is it look i do like kim and pan because they're representing the older demographic i know even though they're not as they don't jump out on the screen for me like aruna natalya i wish they were doing better because i really like arun and italia but they seem like such a great father-daughter like pear and they've got such a great relationship and they don't get angry at each other you know even when things are going bad they're very supportive and yeah i do i do enjoy them i don't have a single team this season that i don't like and i'm not just saying that because i've got a podcast i actually do enjoy watching all of them same i don't either i mean it's very rarely that i don't it's very rare that i don't like a team in even in a whole cast of 11 teams but yeah they're all very congenial aren't they does this make the season a little bit more boring in the sense because it's always fun to have a villain team it's always fun to have a team you don't want to do well and then

49:26 They keep doing well throughout the season and you're like when are they going to lose when are they not going to make it you know if this was a normal season yes quite possibly but because it's such an unusual season i don't think it can be a boring season even with such nice teams yeah no i agree i mean all of the teams really great here you know the rest of the teams come in kim and pin in third place i still think they're my like even though the 20s are the team i want to win is the underdog team not taking anything away from all of the other teams like i mentioned i actually personally would not be angry maybe aruna natalia i like them but i don't know if i want to see them when after they have come and last so many times now i feel like but i don't think there's any danger of that happening watch me be wrong here on the very first season i have a podcast about but i don't think that's happening michelle no i don't think they're coming anywhere near number one no yeah so i came up in third place they're my winner pick for the season i think they're gonna take the win i just i'm on to the case like i like to always dissect edits you know like i used to drive riley absolutely nuts when it came to survivor and half of the time half of the time i was wrong like i normally got the second place not the winner i normally got the second place not to win i mean actually you don't even need to see the edit you just need to see who's advertised

50:47 Before the game and then it's down by half the cards anyway you can tell who's been who's going to go out in the first before merge just by looking at he doesn't get screen time or who does oh my god yeah so yeah i'm looking forward to actually the 20s in the new survivor season i think they're just going to be crackers they're going to be good a lot of fun i need to do a little bit of homework on the castle i know all the photos are finally out and everything and definitely do need to do a little bit of homework before i go into the season but i already know who's been featured a lot on the promo so you already kind of know who the top six are going to be most likely for the season if you've been paying attention to who's actually being yeah sort of i guess put in front of us and we're talking about australian survivor for those that are listening to those podcasts and that are not in australia and hearing this at a later stage and you're over in the us australian survivor blood versus water season seven is coming out in about a week's time no not even a week oh three nights monday night monday yeah i'm thinking about i'll be talking about it in a week's time but monday it's going to come out and very excited you would see a very familiar person and senator diaz twine that is going to be there as well she's somewhat known in america i think she's played maybe five times maybe one a few times

52:08 What yeah that's monday from monday my life ends and i don't have a life for maybe what eight weeks or something it's just really hard yeah it's going to be it's going to be busy it's going to be a lot of fun now i do want to finish off with the amazing race and what we saw here in this episode flight attendants coming fourth they do overtake akbar and cherie and the run going to the pit stop showing that to have that cardiovascular fitness i think we've been seeing a story the editor is telling us the story that akbar is struggling the leg that they lose the lick that they go out it's going to come down to the physicality and them not being able to keep up with the pace is what i'm getting i think that too which is very sad you know because they're you know they've got the passion there they just don't have they just don't have to follow through being able to do it's it's very tough right i would love for them to win i mean akbar everything that he's doing with the kids like i mean that's just awesome to see so but i think him just being on the show and doing well is going to be such an inspiration for a lot of kids there where they're going to be like oh wow someone that's grown up and this area can do anything and become anything and that in itself will motivate people i think so that

53:28 Is good i mean obviously the money would be so much better but still you know i think it's not going to be for nothing and then arun and natalya coming in at last i did feel bad about everything where they said you know we feel like we're letting people back home down we're super fans we feel like we're leaving fans down and it is sad when you're going down that road but i do feel the sad thing michelle when it comes to a race such as this or even sport or life in general momentum is such an important thing and when you have it you're on top of the world like you know ryan and dusty have been this game so far but when you don't have it like aruna natalya it's very hard to stand from or to begin from a standing start like if you don't have that momentum and i think the edit even though it's trying to tell us ryan and dusty is gonna flail out next week and stuff are gonna stuff's gonna go wrong for them i still think arun and natalya that's my prediction they're out next i just don't see them coming back i've lost yeah i mean out of aruna natalia and akbar sheree it's going to be unless something really drastically wrong happens it as marcus just said i it's going to be arun italia or akbar sheree out next yeah i hate i hate having to predict people to go out because it's usually the teams i really like

54:48 But you like all the teams that see you like all the teams this season michelle so you're gonna hate it every single week when we're gonna have to predict i know i know look the girls i'm not you know i know you love lulula and raquel and kayla that to me they're not they're nice but they're not speaking to me like the other teams are like if i like i don't there's no team i don't like but if i had to like say which one of the teams is like lulula speaking to me definitely obviously i'm a big fan they're my favorite team i don't feel the same about raquel and kayla for some other reason they're the one team that for me like if i had to like say okay which one of the teams will i lose next there may be that team because i feel like they're over confident and they've taken shots at they've taken shots at ryan and dusty last week they were very they were throwing shade there by saying they're so cocky and arrogant and all that kind of stuff i've not seen it hasn't shown me being arrogant and cocky so if marcus asked a different question and said which team wouldn't you mind going next it would be raquel and kayla yeah and it's no hate towards them if they listen to this or whatever there's no hate like i think they're probably great people i'm talking to the edit because that's all i can see the edit is not making me like them the edit is making me like i don't

56:08 Dislike them like it's i'm very in between but like i like a lot of these exciting their editing isn't exciting that's plain and simple and you know they look like lovely people but their edit is just letting them down yeah so chris dixon is saying it's a shame because this season it feels like it's a lot more obvious who's going out every leg then ever yes it can be but we can definitely be wrong like i mean listen i'm very used to making predictions and then being wrong the next week so who knows what's gonna happen he also asks do we think there's gonna be a u-turn coming up soon and i had a theory michelle when i looked at that i was like how did ryan and dusty get into the position that they got into in the next on the amazing race section that we saw in the end and what if they did get u-turn somewhere and they made a mistake and someone you turned them somewhere like we may get that coming up this next episode if not the next episode we should be seeing a u-turn come up pretty soon because normally you get at least two of them in a season right yes but however i think if ryan dusty got a u-turn they would still not finish last i think they'd still do really well zoom through it and still be there before the last people yeah have you seen have you seen i know i touched on it have you seen the arrogance from them is it just by them being confident being

57:28 Too wise people are thinking that they're that they're cocky to males doing this race because i haven't seen them be that way yet i haven't seen it no i haven't seen it either yeah and i don't feel like ryan would be that kind of person he to me comes across as extremely like i mean again we only see the edit again we can only talk to that but you know having gone through what he's gone through in life i don't think he would come in with that type of an attitude at all exactly i don't think he would surround himself with those kind of people and exactly and dusty stood by his friend all these years so he's not that kind of person either yeah all right well i think that's pretty much it michelle i think we spoke about everything that we could really talk about in this specific episode unless there's anything that we missed and you felt like you wanted to have a chat about for the amazing race oh there was one other thing that they actually brought up which they've never done in any other season they were asked what lessons have you learned since coming back i think we only heard from two or three of the teams i know raquel and kayla said just to take things slower not to rush things and think things through so i thought that was really interesting that they were asked that because they haven't ever been asked that before even halfway through a race when people have been

58:49 Racing and you know they do learn lessons along the way and how to race better but they've never asked that before and had it in the edit and i wonder if that has to do with the fact that when you're in the middle of the race you get into tunnel vision and you're just like go go and then the little bit of time that you don't race you sleep you know and you maybe eat something and then you're back to it so you don't really get a lot of time to sit back and reflect and what made this very interesting to me was that they didn't see footage of how they did or how the viewers would perceive them based on the first couple of episodes but there was a few of them that came back no already knowing where they were lacking and they were making adjustments accurately to that so raquel and kayla i can't speak too much about because i thought they're one of the teams that did better pre coming back like they've gone backwards slightly since coming back lulu and lala spoke about the fact that they learned that they need to focus a lot more and that they that they also need to come down and not get scatterbrained which they've clearly come in with a different attitude and mindset and they do seem a lot more toned down their personalities coming back and then you had ryan and dusty talk about the fact that they went to go train at altitude to become fitter they didn't feel like they were fit enough and i'm like that's scary these two fit guys at the top saying oh we've got weaknesses even though we dominated the first

1:00:09 Three leagues we're gonna go work on that so that's scary and then pen and kim they seemed like they did some workouts and things like that at home as well so it was interesting to see that it's interesting to visibly see some players change as well like how they played the game how they're approaching it compared to the to the first couple legs i'm not advocating for a break mid-season every season but you know for this season it's interesting to see the experiment play out exactly i think it was good for some of the teams to have that break and maybe they're racing better for it so like good luck to that 100 all right well as we close off here michelle it's been great to talk to you about the amazing race lick five year on the nullify take you will be back next week i'm hoping even though your life is getting pretty busy to talk about the next league of the amazing race i've got michelle back now until the end of the season so for everybody that really enjoys michelle's take she is full time back until the end of the season until we finish this one i don't think it's going to be too long of the season with not that many teams really in it probably eight nine ten eleven episodes in total i feel like it'll be a shorter season which is great someone wrote down the other day when it is actually because i think they found cbs's guide i was doing something at the time and i didn't look it was it seemed to be less episodes but

1:01:29 I'm gonna have to look that up and i'll have it for you next week awesome well for everybody that's listened and got to this point off the podcast i want to thank you for listening it's always great to have you here if you have not subscribed yet to the channel please consider subscribing follow this content if you want to see more podcast the more people that subscribe to this channel the more it motivates me to add more and more shows to the podcast like i'm a bit of a tv addict so you know if there's other shows in the future that people want me to dive into it will definitely motivate me to do more but coming up here in the next week we've got australian survivor blood vs water season seven that is going to premiere this week i should have a podcast up for that towards the end of next week probably friday or saturday i do have a special guest the way that it's going to work this season is that i will have different guests most likely each week and maybe one person that will be on more than others as my backup person if i can't find another guest for it but i'm hoping to speak to a lot of fans within the australian survivor community a big super fan from the us who've been watching it a lot jake who you guys have seen on the podcast before he will be back as a person that will come on the podcast as well and fingers crossed i've got a few players that i'm sort of potentially talking to it's a little bit harder sometimes to get australian survivor players to do podcasts but there is one or two that i might be able to persuade to come on and talk about this season it's just such a big undertaking michelle when you do podcasts

1:02:49 About australian survivor because most of the time you're talking about three episodes not one i know i know it's just a nightmare i mean i haven't ever podcasted about survivor but i just kudos to the people who do about australian survivor because you've got so much content to sort of try to put into an hour if possible because people generally don't like to listen to more than an hour yeah you did the retrospective with me and a bunch of people once but it was sort of a season overview at the end which is pretty easy to sort of dip your toes into but we'll be back next week to talk about that guys so keep an eye on the channel and it's been great having you here thank you so much and speak to you next time goodbye
