The Challenge 39: Episode 8 Review

2:41 For putting up the exit interviews first so I knew who was out before the episode started not cool I didn't even know Amazon Prime had the challenge on it probably in the states not in Australia as far as I'm aware because they you know they block things depending on where you we always try to find it too we don't know always like service is on this service no we don't get it the big reason we're doing the live right now is because things worked out in a way where Jake couldn't do the Survivor podcast this weekend we normally do the slot for Survivor and we had didn't have the challenge episode ready to record because it was delayed in the normal channels that we get it from so but we got there in the end which is great Chris welcome back to the live Lena welcome back to live Lena also not aware that Amazon Prime had the exit interviews and then kiwi we scared with a pink hand wve emoji Hello Ki SK always good to have you here and then Chris saying thank you for the con conversion because I heard 40 degrees and said that is cold but 104 is insanely hot yes it's very easy to get confused I still get confused whenever anybody from the states talk about degree or farite over on that side like I normally am confused as to okay is this hard is it not I have to do the conversion myself as well it's so interesting how every country has got its own way of doing things well I should actually say the states does things differently

4:01 The rest of the world yeah I should say they do things differently to the rest of the world but let's get into the challenge and let's get started here right from the start with you know Emanuel going back into the house he's now ticked off kyland and Big T Hario they've all made an enemy out of Emanuel in the game and it looks like he's going to be one of those guys Kahuna coming into this episode that's not necessarily going to tell them to their face that he's pissed off but he is plotting their demise behind closed doors yeah I don't know if I like this or not cuz I'm kind of really appreciating the attitude from Emanuel like the gutsiness the business the self assuredness where you can turn your back on a Jordan like the first time a champ turns up and now he's saying he's going to get revenge and all that which I kind of appreciate the hootspa the spirit of him but I don't see how he's going to do anything like I know he's in the right Alliance but he's not exactly pulling the strings or running anything there he's kind of just along for the ride in this gigantic Alliance he's one of many and the fact that he's targeting anyone like I'm like who are you gonna how you going to Target them kind of specifically you know what I mean so yeah no 100%

6:41 This point able to sit back and let things happen and then maybe get the target slightly off him by not overreacting and then waiting for that opportunity to pounce I think he's going to make a big move in the game I do see Emanuel being the person the editor telling us he's going to be the person to probably take out a Highland we already saw Big T being taken out and he's also mentioned Hario quite a bit it's a shame that we don't get to see Emmanuel and Hario potentially going up against each other in an elimination that would be really good but in the current state with chaos the likelihood is that they'll most likely have to go up against the champion if they do get thrown down there yeah and so far anyway like it seems like the Champions except for C are really kind of and they're getting eliminations that are almost hand well I mean definitely are handpicked specifically for the champion they know who's coming on and they know what elimination is going to be there so that's going to make it tough for any of the contenders stepping down into this and not only against a champion but against a champion with a elimination specifically picked for their strength is always it's a tough Hill to climb for them but I don't know like I'm interested to see like there are some instances like this episode Paul wrestle I really think it should have just been between

8:02 Two contenders I don't like a champ coming in as a mercenary to kind of do that but you're right it does as much as we're happy seeing the Champions and Casey got a massive like oh yeah we'll talk about it I think I think we're jumping slightly ahead we'll definitely talk about it yeah but as much as we like seeing them I do wish we would still be seeing like you're right a Haria versus em manual in the sand I don't know if we're going to be able to get that sort of thing in the next phase of play or whatever but it's missing that of it for sure yeah like listen I'm not going to what I'm a big fan of the Champions coming back I'm actually really enjoying this twist to the season the only downside is that if there is real beef in the show you don't get to see people go head-to-head they have to get a champion to do their dirty work in the sand which is definitely the only downside that I can think of in regards to Champions coming in at this stage but I have been enjoying the theme of the season I did want to talk a little bit about Colleen Kleen and kylin having a bit of a conversation here in the early stages and she mentioned she's also now studying I believe to become a therapist so she can understand her own behaviors and why she goes after Bad Boys instead of the good guys you know obviously she went after fessie the biggest of bad boys in her original season when she was on the show very interesting conversation and all I could think about kuna throughout this conversation was that it's not been a good year in reality TV for therapists

9:22 Or psychologists you know will she go down in flames with the rest of the therapists and psychologists that have played Survivor that have played the traitors and so forth cuz I kind of feel like she's been the frog in boiling water for a while but she just hasn't realized that she really has no one at this stage that is going to go to bat for her the therapist not realizing like how people are thinking and that sort of thing like I worked at a bank for 10 years I'm really bad with money doesn't good with money so the therapists have all the advice but obviously kind like you know maybe that's why she's saying I want to become a therapist so I understand my own my own issues like going after Bad Boys was such a funny thing to say yeah like therapists are not having a good run this year that's for sure as far as looking and holding up the Optics of what a therapist would say and do as far as you know looking smart 100% K is saying they should be sending the strong players and to get rid of them yes and I think going into this next bit or somewhere in the conversations I don't know if it's this next bit specifically but that's kind of what Jay was sort of angling at this whole episode by wanting to go after Melissa when people were thinking about going after Big T not saying that Big T

10:43 Isn't strong like I think actually Big T has done a really good job this season but we'll talk about her full Arc later on but I think that what he's looking at is if Big T was to go into a final and run against us would she be able to have the endurance to compete against us or Melissa seems to be a lot more physically fit she's run a couple of finals before she's probably a big threat so I feel like in some ways they have been going after someone that is extremely strong I can't remember who else in this current cast have actually seen the final outside of Melissa with the woman so I feel like he's taking a shot at the appropri person Olivia I think that's probably it yeah so in some ways they are definitely doing that Ki good saying problem is the strongest people are running things at the moment so they're stupid getting rid of the least competition and'll come back to bite them 100% there's like 13 people in their Alliance so when you go oh is it Melissa or Big T well you're picking from two people that aren't like only two possibilities like even Colleen being a straggler on the on the edges on The Fringe is still kind of voting with the US Alliance and it's like yeah she feels like she's a part of them yeah I'm like it's the big world's biggest Alliance ever and it's like should we pick meliss well as of next week or like after Melissa goes

12:03 Or whoever you're targeting then you then you've run out of options like and Jay's suggestion of picking someone good is absolutely the right thing except that all the people that should be targeting are all working together so it's like what do we do oh Big Willie Boy in the live Willie saying hey guys the episode for me I didn't like it the only thing I liked from the episode was Kyle being called and brought in for entertainment this episode then some people on the challenge I do agree man I was I was loving me some KY time like the episode as a whole like I feel like we just went through the motions this episode like you know it's like we went through the motions of each thing that needed to happen there's a specific person that probably the nicest guy outside of the game but this whole season I'm just like who are you what are you talking about and that's a s like you know pointing to his muscle saying like oh you know this is five Banas a day so clearly now we know why bananas didn't show up for this season because he was afraid he was going to get consumed by Assaf during the day to help feed his muscles professional At Romance profession like he comes across am I the only person who thinks he comes across is really cringey at times like he's a try hard in the yeah he's massive it's so bad like he's probably the nicest

13:24 Nicest guy outside of the game so I'm not going after his person outside of the game but I feel like he came into this season and he's just trying so hard to be entertaining that it's actually cringey to me like doesn't come across I don't feel like it's I don't feel like that is his actual personality that he is portraying on the show like I think his personality is probably a lot more laidback and he's like I need to do this if I want to get the call back next season basically yeah he's like I went out on the first challenge first episode and all I had was a little bit of a flip thing with Nani I need something on this season I need to get in there yeah but let's talk a little bit about the Kyle call did you did you enjoy that did you love seeing Big T Phone her loved one Kyle back in the UK and having a little bit of that banter because it felt like he really he really boosted her a little bit as well you know I mean Kyle's great I love K and I miss him on our screens but I didn't real like I never knew they were that close that he would be a call from home kind of they were always close in previous Seasons like I don't know how close they were outside of the game but in the seasons they were always in each other sort of alliance or working together to a degree you know Kyle works with people to the best of his ability you know and then sometimes he's got what is crazy about it is that they were close because he was on the last season she did right and she said she was retiring and took time off and

14:44 Kyle's being away from a for a while but you know when their last season was SP and allies yeah it's going back a while yeah no it was only but it's two three season it feels like it's years ago because yeah it feels like so long ago but and it technically was two years it was 2021 we seen K but it was seasons ago I thought it was yeah it feels so it feels like so long there's so much challenge but like Big T's retirement because she was focusing on a culinary career was one season it was only like r or dies and then she came back but because of's so much Gap in other seasons and World Championships and blah we have only had two Flagship seasons in two years which is crazy to think but that is insane to think and a lot of it I think does come down to like it's obviously pointing to the fact that they know that their starcast is getting older and that their starcast is getting closer to 50 a lot of them are moving into their 40s a lot of them are moving close to their 40s so I 100% believe they did all of these other shows to try and tap into new Talent bring new people into the challenge make more people aware of the challenge because they are looking at longevity and I know the fans hated it but from a business perspective I can understand why they went down that road and now with this season having a lot of newbies coming in

16:04 It's going to take time for people to grow to love some of these new characters it's not going to happen the first season in because people who watch The Challenge love seeing the growth love seeing people that they've seen over five different seasons six different seasons 15 different seasons like that's what makes the challenge unique is that these people can come back and learn from their mistakes and either repeat it and we all look at them and say mate have you not learned from your previous season or they improve and we applaud them for that you know because they're getting better as a as a competitor maybe learn a little bit about themselves as a human being they changed certain things and then the best ones are the ones that never learn and continue to be who they are the Josh's how we keep hoping Josh is gonna get I think we got that with Big T this season I think she's like gotten better massive okay since we're going that way let's Okay Kyle just wanted to bring one more thing up from Kyle before we move on to Big T love the fact that when Kyle was there he's like tell me who's been G after you tell because she's like I'm an alliance of two with Melissa and we're on the outside of the house and they're both laughing about it and he's like tell me who they are I will make a list of them and come back and eliminate all of them you know I love that because maybe that's the fire that Kyle finally needed to move away from retirement but obviously he's got crew there

17:24 That he's looking after so you know he's got some daddy duties that has him away from the and I hope that we get a point maybe in a year two years time from now we get to see him again on the show and he's not the young guy either I feel like how old is Kyle at the moment Kyle the challenge see if I can see I feel like yeah he's got to be in his 30s he's 31 actually he yeah he's got another 10 years in him easy I do like that he said like he dropped that little teaser in there went for him coming back and Kyle never like in air quotes retired he never said I'm done it's just it's been C right it's he had a kid like and that's kind of what happened he didn't have to I kind of appreciate that about Kyle like some of these guys will just announce and say like I'm done I'm retire and make it a big deal and then you know six months later they're back on for whatever reason but yeah I like that the people that are like no I'm I haven't been on but I've not closed the door I just haven't been on and I'll come back you know I love this kiwi skirt saying love how Big T said his baby looks like him but even kle doesn't look like Kyle anymore yeah he's not the pirate that we used to when he first came on to the show Luna saying do you think his best friend Jay encouraged him to do so and I think that is for obviously the being so weird yeah probably maybe I mean obviously he's friends with Jay I feel like Jay would have the

20:05 We are it's the start of our day on this side but it has been a great start to this live now kuna you wanted to talk a little bit about big te you wanted to talk a little bit about the growth that we've seen you know obviously a big episode for Big T here she had the conversation with Kyle gets her motivated to go she's beaten two people in the arena I believe one was a champion if my memory is correct in this season so she's done a good job and sort of I feel like we about this a couple of episodes ago like it's almost like big got to that point now where she's been on the bottom for so long and people have always treated her and to a certain degree almost like an extra like she's not a main character or supporting character on this season she's just like a tree on a play like you know she's an extra that she's got to that point where it doesn't phase her anymore being under the pressure or being thrown into Arena like she used to be scared of going down she's not anymore she just goes in and she Embraces it and she had a really admirable performance in this episode against Casey who is not like you can say what you want about Casey a lot of people will say she's a tree or she's Furniture when it comes to entertainment right but as a as a competitor there's no doubt that Casey is one of the best competitors that we've seen in the last couple of Seasons you wouldn't want to go up against her like Olivia said even the men are scared like I mean Ed would have had

21:25 No chance in a pole wrestle against Casey there today you know Olivia calling it as it is but going back to Big T what's your thoughts on Big T and where she's grown as a competitor as a human being coming back into the season I love big T I like from the time when you know CT took her took her under his wing and she was always a huge player as far as personality goes she had something that obviously wanted them to bring her back all the time but her competitive play didn't really match up and this season I don't know like maybe this is a bad thing maybe it says that the competition is lower and she can compete a bit better or she's improved and I think like when you look at her like her physique improved yeah she's a little bit bigger A Little Bit Stronger got bigger arms than me man like I wouldn't want to take on like I'm one of those guys I'm with Ed I'm skied as well she's actually really big like she's I'm a fan I'm a fan of thick big T I like thick big T yeah it's allowed her and potentially maybe like I don't know if this is going down the wrong path but the challenges that she did win it really seemed like strength and body weight was a like she had a pretty good ratio there and maybe she becomes an elimination beast in the challenges

22:45 Like in Ana style Ana is very good at eliminations maybe not the injur I think she can I think can surpass I think I'm going to make a big call here I think she can surpass Ana if she keeps training if she keeps putting in the work like she has been doing since she's you know had her time away from the show I mean did TJ ever say to Ana you're going to be a champion one day or I want to see You Be A Champion one day like has he ever said that to anyone else huge that was massive I was like wow like I'm usually just hearing waiting like he's the host is he supposed to be saying that yeah like sometimes when they're like I know we'll see you again I hope we see you again like he but to say I hope you're a champion one day he's like a massive endorsement we've never seen that before I thought that was really cool I was like yeah I hope so too man so I was like TJ listen mate I might need to give you like a couple of dollars under the table and bribe you to you know just get a full UK cast in or give it make the numbers equal in regards to Big's allies versus the US Alliance that normally forms that takes her out because there is no way Big T is ever winning a season on a normal casting for the challenge main show because she'll always be the person from the UK because she's in the UK geographically she doesn't have the ability

24:05 To hang out with people at parties or just have those you know offseason conversations with people that I think puts her in a really bad position coming into any of these Seasons socially so she'll have to win her way to the end she'll have to be do a Chris Underwood and there's a lot of work for her to do to physically get to that position in the game I feel like so you know Big T like I hope you know CT looks out for in future Cas what I'm saying I hope she gives some how many was it 18 or I don't think it helps big that her best like best friend is like is also UK and we'll also put people off and we'll also fight and like get into arguments and she's just always automatically going to be on the outside that way but yeah the euro thing the brbe thing was so great like that's no production loves it because you know I'm sure it's against the rules but they let it slide apparently she took that from hara's bag isia's money she grabbed hara's money then tried to bribe other people for the votes which is so great like and Ed playing into it was amazing as well she completely did it so funny that is the type of thing that produc would look for yeah I feel like she completely she completely did it to the right person because Ed is the one person that would play into it like he did and the whole scene with her sort of sneaking up on him being like what the hell it was it was amazing let's

25:25 Read a couple of comments here Chris says brought personality and fun to the season and the show as a whole the season is worse out worse without her I do agree kiwi says bigy is always great entertainment yes Chris I will miss her a lot Lena saying there is a rumor that pole wrestle wasn't planned for this elimination the weather made it too dangerous to set up the one originally planned bummer for big te yeah that's a shame that is a shame I thought they named it that just because it rained yeah the storm instead of Paul wrestler Willie says I will miss big te so entertaining and getting better Ki is saying I liked what TJ said to her at the end I want to see her in a final for sure Chris is saying TJ knows a queen when he sees one totally agree with that Sudani speaks back in the live welcome back Sudani I believe it's been a while since I've seen you here she says hey Chris and kuna glad to have made the live today it's great to have you here bad baby D is saying Big T is light years ahead of ana I agree with you I enjoy Big T more as a competitor than Ana but I know some people back in the day and also I don't want to take away from the fact that Ana's had many years on the show she's bed a bit of a legacy for herself like I'm not taken away from that everybody has got their own favorites I prefer B over Ana as well I didn't like some of the Ana drama and the continued Ana

26:45 Drama that's happening right now it's not for me but some people love that they're really into it I love Ana but I just meant more like in eliminations that their specialty is like Anise is good at Power type challenge strength I get what you're saying and I think pigd can kind of feel that role a little bit that her strength will be her strength yeah would she would do you reckon Big T would follow her strategy of running a final getting half a mile into a run and then saying oh my ankles or something yeah I've H my ankle or something do you think she'd pull that strategy for the for the stamina I think if she doesn't have it I'm hoping she's saying that it's not a good strategy it doesn't work especially if your part by your partner Angel K says I feel like Big T had so much more confidence this season than any other season we both agree I think that Big T you know she's just going from strength to strength shame she came into a season with people who are whack yeah totally agree kiwi says totally there a lot of people agreeing bad baby says but she'll never win she offers so much to the show it's fine she'll never win unless the cast is all layups I do think that Big T if she like I feel like big from a couple of seasons ago didn't want to do any training only wanted to like you know go there have fun do the party stuff maybe have

28:06 Like what was it that she used to eat her diet consisted of like cake and stuff like that in between I didn't see her eating any cake this season I saw her trying to lock in and actually be a competitor so she can go down that road and realize that there's some good money to be made then maybe there's a chance but even if she just comes back as a personality totally fine with that like she does spice up circumstantially she could like if she gets to a final and they do the thing where like sometimes the partners yeah they either choose or they rotate partners and she gets the right partner for the right Challenge and yeah she gets the Casey final you know she comes last maybe in the first parts of sections of the final and then the first person she gets PA up with whoever's maybe Jordan's on that season Jordan's at the start yes Big T is like the person who's performed the worst in the first day so because of that automatically they just line the best and the worst up and then that means get wi that could Bey shot fired at Casey I still love Casey from a I feel like when you look at Casey and I say love Casey because I know people are going to come for me on that one I've grown on Casey because let's talk about Casey's reception on this specific season has there been a bigger reception for anyone this season than Casey running out there I know people are going to hate this and what does it tell you about Casey outside of the game exactly that's my point

29:26 Is that like is every everyone says Casey is boring Casey's know Casey's whatever but look at the relationships that this woman has look at the reception that she has from in like socially this is from people that have interacted with her and many of them not much right like Big T and Melissa were like one season couple years ago kind of thing like they were like oh she was on the last season I was on or whatever it is yeah and they lose their mind like this says a lot about the type of person Casey is and I think you've said this before many times she's probably great in real life she'd be an awesome friend she'd be so nice so lovely it just doesn't to I think she's a very loyal person as well Loy absolutely but this but being in a champ mercenary role where she doesn't have to do confessionals and carry TV show and do all the fun stuff she just has to come in for kick some ass you know get a bit of a hype up and then leave perfect for Casey because that's what she's good at yeah I think again when we talk about Casey right like the biggest thing with Casey is in a lot of the seasons that she's played she's not been challenged because she's been insulated well she's had a great strategy she's dominated strategically in most of her Seasons she's definitely one of the best at getting to a final right

30:46 But because she's very rarely been in under pressure with people gunning for her we haven't seen the spicy side of a Casey come out and she's been able to be very much lowkey under the ra she doesn't really go and make drama that's not her personality type so the only time we really started seeing a bit of that spiciness that Casey does have was on the world championship season when she did get shots fired her and Ben and then with Troy as well like both of them she had she went into quite a few eliminations and we saw a different Casey That season we both said she can be fun and also just having her split up with Nani because I think most of her time if she's playing with Nani she just wants to spend time with Nani she doesn't want to get involved in anything else so again I think that when you look at a season like this where people are reacting to Casey coming on like they did and everybody's like she's my favorite person I love her big T and her like clearly she's amazing at building relationships clearly she's good at the oneon-one stuff it just doesn't translate necessarily to the show and it doesn't necessarily show that she's this entertaining character on the show but two different things completely but it was really interesting to see that let's go back and read a couple more comments here a lot of people still saying she had a lot of confidence and that's on big te kiwi says she did it to everyone but they only showed us Ed should have shown more I think because probably Ed would have been the one who reacted

32:06 To it the best probably had the best reaction yes so they showed him more than anyone else because the others probably didn't play along can you imagine like Mariah yeah marah the I plead the fifth approach I kind of like that she was like not gonna say anything yeah no she did she made the right decision there we'll talk maybe we'll talk about it in a little bit let me just read some more comments here Ki says maybe Ed was the only one that played into it 100% that's so funny Suba Chris says she was eating a donut an appropriate breakfast food not cake go easy on Micha donut cake tomato you know same thing same thing it's cake in circular form yeah bad baby D says that's true she could finesse her way Lena said she is also a very strong swimmer if there are lots of waterbased comps she has a chance Chris says I wish we saw what the competitors see what makes Casey so lovable because to me I just see her doing nothing and I think that's again that's where it comes down to it right you only see an hour episode at a time and you see Snippets of what the production team deems to be entertaining enough to show and in Casey's part like I don't think she's a natural Entertainer but it doesn't mean like I know a lot of people in life I would don't think they should be on a TV show because I don't think they would be very entertaining but they're probably some of the most loyal
