The Challenge 40: Episode 5 Discussion

0:00 A [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] and we're live welcome back to the nullified Tech Channel on YouTube where Kahuna and I have got the TNT takes for you on the challenge episode five that is right I'm your host Chris back here with Kahuna to talk about all of the latest action of the challenge 40 and kuna I just watched the episode coming straight from watching it into this podcast so I feel like sometimes when I do that

1:20 It takes me a minute just to digest what happened and you know we're going to you're kind of like my you're going to be my therapist tonight we're going to talk through this thing and we're going to figure out how I feel about this episode because do man take a seat on the couch lie down yeah I mean this is this is the best time of the week I get a free therapy session with Kahuna you know and he is going to be telling me how I should take this because immediately I've got Chris coming in saying Chris is going to come in to defend his girl apparently there's a 9 Minute Tik Tok already out from karia to talk about the drama that happened and then Britany saying that it's a solid episode definitely the weakest we've seen so far though but that fight is what made it entertaining and kuna I feel like you're one you're in one of two camps you're in one of two camps when it comes to an episode like this you either love it or you don't like it that much and I've got to be honest I'm on the side of I'm kind of over it I'm over the whole Laurel karia fights that's been going on like everybody knows my stance in regards to it I do think Laurel has never really been a true friend to K Maria but then also so there is obviously a lot of things that are going on here that is beyond the game and when things get personal beyond the game I love the game I love the strategy that is what drives me to the competitive nature

2:40 But this real life baggage that they brought into the game that's not necessarily something that I find entertaining no judgment to people who do like it but it's just not my cup of tea but I'm really interested to know how you feel about this episode having seen everything that went down and obviously the karia fight with Laura was probably the highlight of the episode for a lot of people or the low light depending on how you look at it right like if you if you are sick of that like we've just had like when you mentioned therapy speaking of people that need therapy that and I'm actually really glad because I have heard that karia did get like some professional help in the house because of this fight and how abusive it was which makes it just like I'm not opposed to drama I get tired of it when it's too much and we just had an entire season in all stars of K Maria and Laurel like it's a whole season now we're getting it again and it just feels like the same script over again we've had it in the past where like the Tor and Jordan as ex's kind of thing was like okay that's entertaining how are they going to work together okay they did it last season now they're still going on about it like and you can't get the same narrative over and over and over again because as much as to these people it might be their real life and it looks like there's

4:00 Some very real venom and feelings and emotions and complicated stuff all in there to us it's still a TV show right which is kind of sick when I just said it out loud and I heard it to myself but to us it is a TV show and when you just have the same plot over and over again it does get repetitive but I mean they're filming what's what they're putting out there but that drama between them like man it's a lot like it I did hear that it got to the point where Karie was removed from the house for a few days to actually get counseling and stuff because it was so intense and the bit that they cut out of it was pretty intense I'm actually kind of sh I just want yeah I just want to touch on that because you know I know we're going straight into this but I want to kind of get it out of the way so we can talk about the rest of the episode because it was for me it was maybe some people maybe some people see it as a highlight definitely wasn't the greatest thing for me to see people break down like the way they did and you know I know some people really find that entertaining but for me looking at this you know there was definitely big clips that were cut because you could tell this was different times that they like at one point it looked like it was in the evening the other time it looked like it was in the day it didn't look like it was one cohesive you know sort of moment that all of this happened

5:20 In so it obviously boiled over into a lot more than what we saw on the TV show you're either going to be a karia fan which I am but I'm trying not to be biased I'm really trying not to be biased on this and then or you're going to be a laurel fan right and I don't know how you can be at the edit I felt and this is what I'm trying to say is like I feel like the edit tried to soften us on Laurel a little bit because they showed Laurel having karia back but what a lot of people forget is that was that was probably the one and only time the one and only season that actually Laurel had Kar is back and without a doubt for the majority 80% of the time she is always kept karia down and that now that karia has grown into her own person and has got her own thoughts and want to also stamp her own authority on the game it has become very toxic and it's I could kind of see the whole conversation that karia had around you know she sees a little bit of Michelle in herself being sort of trampled on by this veteran that has got this Aura but Michelle doesn't necessarily she doesn't have that power that Legacy within the game yet and Laurel does choose her targets wisely I feel like personally so to me it kind of felt like the producers did a lot to show Laurel in a good light while also showing karia struggling I don't know what I've missed in regards to that but if karia

6:41 Actually I didn't know she went for counseling outside of the house then I feel like we've missed a lot because it couldn't just have been the two moments there wasn't enough meat on the bone for me to understand why and again this is going to be like if car's already done a live and talked about the context of it then it may complet undo what I've I saw today but I read that which when you think of what Laurel does and what she's already done by going that thing last time with derell about you know who gets a massage when you're married and just going for the like the most vicious you can say you know what I mean so apparently Laurel really went at her for going with her past of abusive relationships with Kyle and Abram and stuff and really kind of nailed her on that and yeah apparently that was a that's car went into a bit of a spiral because of it so I don't know if that's true or not but that's what I've read so yeah let's see what people are saying here in the live we've got duu saying that Laurel versus Cara is more annoying than Tori talking about Jordan being her ex fiance and obviously we had the whole ex- fiance story line just sort of sprinkled on top a little bit of you know a little bit of seasoning

8:01 For us on the episode as they did the daily but we'll talk about that later on Danica good morning totally agree with you I'm also in the camp of just being sad about last night's episode didn't really well I guess for me it's tonight's episode because I literally just watched it and finished watching it about 20 minutes ago but yeah it's it just left the sour taste in my mouth duu says was Cara innocent bystander or did she instigate that crap Michelle business yeah I do fully appreciate that and taking my buyers lences off right I don't know if karia should have stepped in but let's put ourselves in karus like I feel like the best thing with Laurel is because you know anything you do around Laurel it's like gasoline on the fire she's going to explode right and I think karia should have probably not been involved but like she explained it she saw a little bit of herself in Michelle and if you think back about those days the only person who really had her back was CT she didn't have other people ever having her back so maybe she wanted to be that person for Michelle in the moment and she felt compelled to not leave Michelle on her own but then in saying that Michelle's got a lot of friends she would have been all right so I'm sure probably not the best moment to interject yourself in that moment K you're probably less biased than me how do you feel about that I agree with you I think I see

9:21 You know how you said it felt very choppy and it looked like there was multiple Parts I actually really liked that Cara although she was kind of standing around staring like a weirdo Lil in the in the background just drinking a drink but the way she did sort of say to Michelle I still like you outside the house like I didn't mind that sort of pickup right when Michelle was just kind of at the abuse of it but it did seem like the big fight they went to Laurel and that's when I was like I like that she protected Michelle I like that she brought her in and had a chat to her and blah but then it looked like she went looking for it and I was like don't do that because Laurel's crazy like I know you can stand up for yourself but Michelle maybe didn't need you to do that because it turned into what it turned into yeah it was it was like I said I don't mind drama but it goes to the point where it crosses a line to abusive and just gross and sad like you said very sad and you're watching it just feeling icky for people I do want to say like I saw a tweet from kylin today which I thought was funny because in the show it looked like he was sort of on Laurel side 100 but he actually tweeted and said I just want to be clear there was multiple

10:42 Blowups there was a very small 32nd one which is what I was talking about ah there's two sides of it but then later when they fought big time he goes I was not like it was interesting that when you say it was choppy kylin was commenting on the first part not in the second part and the editor didn't do him any favors either I think that the producers really are going out of their way to keep Laurel in the fans good books and they want to bring Laurel back I just want to say that for me personally I would be happy to never see Cara Maria and Laurel on the same season ever again even if it means that I don't get to see Cara Maria and Laurel has to play a season that's fine I will bear through it but I just feel like it's gotten to the point now where I just think mentally they're not good for each other so not having them on the same season to me just feels right like moving forward we don't need to see them competing anymore Britney saying it sounds like Laurel is saying that she had her back off the show yep and I'm sure she did at times I'm sure she did like they were good friends and this is where it gets very difficult for us as podcasters to even have a like I mean we're commenting on what we saw but there is so much we haven't seen there's so much we don't know I just don't feel like the way that Laurel is coming

12:02 Across and how far she's gone down the rabbit hole is right like I feel like she should be more mature than that she keeps saying that karia isn't very mature but she's having this blow up right she's going that far like I don't know like just remove yourself from the toxicity if you don't want to deal with someone just say whatever I'm just going to move away from this but I know Laurel's a strong personality that's why she's a good competitor Danica says I just don't understand how Laurel can't see herself in the Clips I mean even in the edit she's still said those things she still needs to have the last word and me her cry and made her cry yes and also she said to karia that you're coming across so badly you don't have anyone you don't have any self-awareness and I'm like the point thing which is just the cringiest like I said because I watched live today with the bakery which is a really fun experience and I was like is she a freaking is she 80 like what kind of old add like and she had to really get to it she was like said it three times just to make sure she said it because she could get but the point when you point at someone else you point three F shut up like that's the cringiest mo like yeah you know sticks and stones may break their might break your bones but like what are you doing saying silly platitudes and then backing up that by saying when you point at someone

13:22 You point three fingers back at yourself and then she goes sit down you stupid like yeah you not exactly like keeping it classy listen all I'm going to say all I'm going to say to this is that we all have our low moments right and we definitely wouldn't want that to be captured on International TV on reality TV for people to be able to refer back to it and that was this was one of those low moments it's one thing if it happens once but with them it's just happening over and over and over again like I know in my personal life if someone annoys the crap out of me I'll avoid the problem is in a reality where you're constantly casting these two people together and you're forcing them to live together like I'm trying to understand where this is coming from and the producers know what they're doing they as soon as this blow up happened thought money moment I mean this is going to be the big headline there's going to be a lot of people who are going to love it and there are a lot of people who love it's just unfortunate I do want to move on from this but I'm going to read a few more comments that people are saying Chris here is saying quick Tik Tok recap yes this was several points in the in to day Cara did confirm she got help from a therapist Laurel brought up past AB yeah so again that is what caused Cara to seek help that is what Kahuna mentioned as well so thanks for enlightening us Britany says

14:42 I disagree I do think Laurel had a strong reaction but come on Cara Michelle approaching Laurel when she was clearly minding her own business wasn't cool either and we kind of called that out probably not the best thing to happen there it's like I said definitely fuel to the fire when it comes to those two to you know one thing that was pretty evident though when you looked at the out the sort of outcome of it Cara was surrounded by people comforting her agreeing with her saying Laurel's basically and it felt like Laurel was like cornering Theo in order to have the conversation and Theo his confessionals were like yeah like you know this has been going on for ages I don't I hate to see it I don't want to get between either of them you know what I mean everybody went to go give I hope everybody went to go give their somebody close to them a hug after that cuz you know Theo just being like go give someone a hug out there I thought that was the good energy we needed I actually went and gave be a hug I went to the kitchen and gave my wife a hug when he when he said that by the way when Theo hugged Laurel he made her look like a freaking toddler that dude is gigantic like he's easily the biggest man in ch like he would Tower over f C like he's a giant dude

16:02 Man like I couldn't believe it yeah no wonder still a travesty that every time we see Theo back on our screens we never see this fun joking personality that he has that we know people like Troy who's been on a season with him said Theo is one of the funniest guys ever the edit never shows that and again he's just relegated to a like you know person that comes in for a oneliner every here and there but any case let's read a few more here du saying when was Kyle ended relationship I'm not going to say that word over and over because we probably will get demonetized but ended relationships after vendettas yet he came back for six more seasons I don't know I don't know to be honest when and again this could be things that happen off screen we don't know what happened Jay is saying what's up guys L just in Bully car did start the argument though totally agree I think that's a good take Britney saying K poly were just calling Michelle a snake for throwing PA in a few weeks ago very true but I think the difference between car and paie is that they leave the game in the game you know like it's a game you played me well done like even when you think about last season when Leroy and killer Cam went after Cara she didn't go like a you know you guys are written off from me for the rest of the world it was G it was game it was game and she was still okay with Leroy

17:22 After I think after killer cam left as well so I think when you go beyond the game that is when there's a yeah and said to Theo when he took him out look after K Maria for me like you know they realize it's game that's the difference and that's how I approach the show when I watch it I want to see yes half the vendettas yes half these things that are against each other but leave it in the game when you leave the game don't take the game with you into your personal life which is probably it's easier set than done because you become friends with these people Chris is saying car also say says that Laura said I will never be your friend to Michelle and that is why car said the friend comment and listen like if I was Michelle be like okay cool like to be honest my social calendar is full I'm stacked like I'm struggling to go and meet up with everybody who wants to be friends with me so that's fine Laurel you do you do you I think that's again I think that's Laurel knowing that would be the most hurtful thing she could say to someone Michelle knowing that Michelle wants that approval probably like she's probably and cutting at like she I would never be like I think that's what L does she picks up on the thing that would cause the most damage in her mind and she goes for that wound and I reckon that's what she was doing to Michelle

18:43 The whole time just a good observation I think it's a good observation in the sense that Michelle even after winning Survivor never felt worthy she's got like this inferiority complex even when she's like a champion and Survivor and she's gone to the end twice and you know yes she hasn't been necessarily the most successful Challenger of all time but I feel like Michelle likes to be liked by everyone so you're probably right but I'm looking at it logically I'm looking at it like everybody wants to be Michelle's friend so like everybody like she seems like a good person to be around and she's and she's making so many friends outside of the game yeah let's see what other people are saying I think Alliance exactly we'll talk about that I think we learned from the last episode elimination that the conspiracy theories about prod wanting to protect people isn't exactly accurate I had a different on this like I might about well again the whole thing with what they did it I again A lot happened after we had our podcast obviously with that elimination we could probably do a whole podcast just about yeah we're too quick off the off the out of the blocks when it comes to it but it still felt like a little bit forced for harass you to come back and say oh yeah no definitely this is how it was like and it was still a lot of loose loopholes for me in regards his ball getting stuck and things like that where I'm like that still doesn't seem like it was very fair

20:03 Helping one person put their things back on and then this elimination again I've got some I don't like having a tin foil hat but I've got some sneaky stuff that I need to talk about in this elimination as well like it feels for me still like there is interference from production and I don't like saying that but 100% felt like that and I will talk about it later on duoo saying when Laurel and Cara were friends and I lived in Montana that's when she was with AB she knows a lot about that situation I know Abe also had problems with the girlfriend he had afterwards that he married with who he's got a kid with so Abe definitely is a bit off the rails Danica says I also don't understand how she can be this way when she is now in a professional position as a veterinarian I mean she has a job with clients I assume I would not want her to treat my pets yeah definitely not a good look hopefully her maybe doesn't watch Kelly Rebel Kelly lost his job as a psychologist because of remember like Australian Survivor re yeah lost job I don't know if we should be hopefully no one from Australia is watching this yeah no we should be disclosing that but hope no one's watching from Australia yeah that was all fair anyway so I'm going to move on just going to go Britney I just don't think it's one-sided it's both of them Britney saying now Chris car did attack Cam and lero online as Allstar 4 was airing

21:23 Okay I don't check socials so I stay offered for my own sanity Duo saying after Cara did the whole interview what they were invited to baby shower didn't exactly take it on the chin baby show right Dau saying as if Tina is only won that one Alum with an ease dodgy yeah exactly well that's yeah I guess let's bring up let's bring up just while we're on the Michelle subject everybody will want to talk about this you know we love ourselves some showmances Devon and Michelle how do you feel about this with Michelle now sort of moving into that vacation Alliance I guess do you think it's strategic only or do you think that this is something that is going to last beyond this season it's I mean that's gross if it's strategic right I hope I think I've seen them post on social Med that they are actually currently officially together so like I'm I like them together I like I don't mind both I actually like Devon he's grown on me a lot over the years I didn't to begin with I did not like that guy at all but I kind of have grown a lot to like I think he's one of the people that carries the show especially in this next batch or this next gener his current generation but like as far as carrying the show

22:43 Forward he'll be one that they kind of rely on and I think Michelle's falling into that role as well so the fact that they're kind of together works well but I kind of like them together they're both cool people like I don't have with either them oh listen I think Michelle's a catch like said some questionable things about how she plays the reality TV game but I think she's probably a catch outside of the game for him as well and similar to you Devon wasn't my cup of tea when he first came onto the scene for the challenge but he's grown on me over time as well he's now a great narrator he's now a great and I mean I didn't even realize it until Tori kind of mentioned it you know he beat bananas he beat Wes in elimination and he beat Jordan in the final that's not bad like when you start looking at it that way strategically he's sound he had a really good episode here this episode where nemiah was trying to do some dodgy back door dealing which I don't blame nemiah for at all but nemiah was so outclassed when it comes to the Strategic social Dynamic of this game that Deon was streets ahead of him it was almost unfair to see them it's like having a heavyweight boxer fight a fever weight you know it just wasn't an equal playing field and even might trying to throw him under the bus in the deliberation absolutely backfired on him I thought Deon had a very Stellar episode and he's also thrown himself in without having to go into the elimination

24:03 Arena I'm feeling pretty good about that first choice pick to be honest because the person I did end up not choosing CT ended up going home and Devon stayed and he had probably the most solid episode so far I would say this season for yeah I mean de had a good episode like that's kind of like I'm I was looking at it my bias showing I was like wow what a Tina episode super star for there but you're right Devon did have an amazing episode as well he's great he is smart and that's kind of the other side of it like everyone like I'm sure we'll chat about it later but Jon and Josh has done in the past avoiding putting your hand up you have to do that risk to reward thing right and Devon does those calculations he like to go look we've made this agreement it will work best the risk to me not putting my hand up and avoiding the thing like what Josh and that done is to be untrusted like Olivia had the conversation with Josh is to like be shun to be guaranteed to be put in next time no matter what whereas if you go in if you put yourself in you're getting that confidence that trust you're building that camaraderie but also like to go into elimination you have to lose

25:25 Or get voted so there's like multiple safety nets even if you put your hand up there's four teams you know what I mean you're not guaranteed to go in so that playing that risk to reward thing I think is a calculation that Devon kind of looked at and said we could win this I'm safe and he said you could leverage that power actually you know so he's pretty smart though way yeah no I think he understands how this game moves he understand when the time is to go in when the time is to put your money with your mouths when it's time to try leverage for position like for instance saying you know we wanted to win so that we could have some favor with someone but because the other thing that I think gets sort of not maybe talked enough about especially in our podcast is the fact that he's buil a lot of credibility over multiple Seasons now we always look at the bad side of the vacation Alliance we always look at the fact that they make Seasons unwatchable because they dominate towards the end but there is a reason for it and it's because they are consistent to their word when they make these deals like Devon has been extremely consistent and that is carried over now to this season where someone like kyland who has not played with him ever before this season was like yeah deon's a solid bloke I don't know about nah he's coming across his bit dodgy right now but you know if I if I throw Deon a bone if I throw him a bone maybe I'll be able to you know last a couple

26:45 Of rounds so hats off too Deon he's built this sort of over a couple of Seasons now and probably this is the thing where you know when you get rookies coming in they're on the back foot because you're going up against a vet that is played for I don't know how many seasons in a row Deon has played now but you know he's got some backing now over multiple Seasons that he's built so he's just worked himself into this position they made the whole episode not the whole episode but there's a lot about Laur on C but a lot of the focus on this episode was bringing up the vacation Alliance and the fact that they were so M yeah they broke they're talking about it in the show and the internet people which is us they broke the four W they're like oh the internet people don't like us and I was like I wonder what the Casual challenge fans are thinking it's like what do they mean the internet people what do they mean the vacation Alliance because you know there are some people that are watching the show that don't follow everything online and this would have been such a break moment that's I'm surprised they showed it's a thing now like it's in the Lexicon it's in the actual show it's now it's now Canon on the TV show for casuals as well to and I like them more because of it yeah well I mean they do like that kind of thing right like the secret garden and the barbecue was it the barbecue

28:05 Or the cookout the cookout you know they have the Mean Girls they like the team Young Buck they like putting people in clicks and the vacational L like as far as kyin goes I was looking at this going like is this even a decision like yeah Nehemiah and Emily haven't been on in 10 years right nehemiah's maybe and All Stars if kylin and Olivia want to go are thinking I've got a future on this show I'm going to come back for multiple seasons do I want to go with Tori and Devon like should I side with them perhaps Tori who everyone hates as being favored by production and the Golden Girl and blah should I go with them or should I go with the people that haven't been on in a decade and maybe might not come on again come on the show again like it come on like makes sense you got to play the odds you got to play the odds let's have a look at a few more of the comments so Chris is saying div and Michelle are still together so good for them it's strategic Deon has been a jackass to Michelle past season guaranteed to get cast now Dena saying they don't bother me Britney saying Deon really annoyed me in this episode so I wasn't feeling this showman Britney why are we in such opposite places on this episode like you got to talk to me girl like I need

29:25 To know why we're just and by the I love the fact that fans see different people that they like they don't like but we're in we're in the opposite camp in this episode maybe next episode we'll be back together on how we see things mja is saying or asking does Michelle have a type and I don't think so if we if we look at the people that she's dated in the show like they couldn't be more different from season to season I don't I feel like Michelle's dating life is like how her challenge strategy is it's all over the place to be honest Jay is saying guys why hasn't Troy been back I'm sure you have the I would imagine the inside scoop I actually messaged Troy not that long ago I didn't ask him why he didn't get didn't get casted but I just sort of mentioned to him that we that we mentioned him when there was the pole wrestle and we said it would have been great to see him and Derek go up against each other and he said he would have loved to have been out there so I can tell you it's definitely not because Troy doesn't want to go back it's probably just the producers haven't seen the need or just haven't gone back to him for some other reason I'd love Troy like hopefully because Troy's young and Troy can still be on the show for a very long time so you know I don't even think he's 30 yet so you know he could easily come back and still be there for 10 seasons especially if you're looking for like a replacement to a Derek type character as Derek is getting older you know as well

30:45 Duu is saying he beat Ana not Jordan baby goat would smoke him in a foot race Fair call Britain saying W through Elation and Jordan was anchored by Anor with the yeah so a lot of people are just not liking this whole beat Jordan which is fair a lot of Jordan love out there and hate Dano saying they could be setting themselves up for an ex's season and being friends with benefits in the process very interesting could be you would that be a strong team the challenge fandom always talk about how oh they're setting themselves up for easy or they're trying to do a rival season and they haven't happened in like 15 years or something like the ex season hasn't been a thing like forever but if you just keep saying it maybe do an ex's season yeah but if you just keep saying it kuna then next season when they do an ex's or rival season you could be like uhhuh see I got it I was on it I knew there was a plan Chris saying Britney ad Britney Tory will always back Deon except for that one time she was rooted for Emanuel in elimination when she was rooting Emanuel that you mean that season Duo I don't even know if you call it the same thing over in America to be honest I don't know if that's a Australian that's an Australian word well okay so I probably need to explain it so if you're roting someone in Australia

32:06 It's basically what Devon and Michelle did this episode when they didn't go to each other's beds let me just put it that way yeah by way we always laugh when you say you're rooting for someone or you're rooting for their team you're like oh are you yeah how funny like I mean listen give some credit to Olivia this episode like her attention to detail to make sure that the show capture yeah like have a look have a look at that and then they get caught on camera was brilliant like I was like this is this is some good stuff from Olivia now that the narice isn't there andasio isn't there like we just don't have that drama around Olivia which is probably why she's not getting a lot of air time to be fair but I thought that was a that was a good moment yeah I actually kind of liked Olivia this episode as well I was like oh without the drama of the N thing she kind of gets to be herself a little bit and I'm digging it but not only just the fact that she did like she was aware enough to point camera at the thing but the edit left it in added that little bit of thing for us like be like a meta you know that was behind again breaking the fourth wall a little bit by showing that no camera and production are very real look like that's cool I like that sort of thing with Victory Olivia and I have agreed on something

33:26 We yeah like Britany Olivia yeah Olivia looks great this season she definitely does I still love you Chris just don't I understand Britany we don't have to agree on everything Chris and I disagree on a lot of things as well I don't fully trust that it wasn't your attention intention either Chris because you've watched Australian TV like if there was one person who could have had a double meaning on that it would have been you having watched Australian Survivor last season I feel like he would get the lingo but yeah so obviously spoken a little bit about that showmance we've spoken a little bit about the funny moment there let's talk a little bit about CT obviously coming into this episode threw himself into the arena there was a lot of talk about you know him being one of the greatest and he probably is and he's getting a lot of credit yeah in undeniable that CT is the great wow yeah Devon said it yeah he's like he's the greatest and they talked about his legacy a little bit they talked about the fact that no one would want to go up against them and then we also had that moment early on in the episode about nemiah the last time he played he was sent home by CT it kind of made my spider senses tingle a little bit when that moment got on the camera I was like ah we've got a we've got a rematch happening in this episode how do you feel
