4:13 There's been at least half a dozen twists but it feels like they all landed in the right place I really am enjoying each one of them and I think more or less they have an impact on how the trajectory of the game has gone and I'm so excited to discuss with you guys who probably have a deeper understanding of the game and to give my thoughts and yeah super excited awesome all right well let's start off with I mean to be honest why are we even watching the show anymore at this point let's talk about the first player that's been murdered so V we've gone through many heartbreaks together you know the robbery of Shai not making it to merge in Survivor UK Chris not winning Survivor UK and in the one episode of the one week of squid game we covered was when Trey the main hero got eliminated and now Bri gets murdered what's going on V what's with I feel like they're doing the squid game thing where they set people up to be murdered I thought it was pretty rough to have no also get a letter you are not murdered like I thought they didn't need to go that hard on poor null I think they could have done without that I really thought there was going to be some sort of twist that saved

5:34 Someone I thought something else was going to happen but no she was quite unceremoniously kicked off the wall and we all move on and so much potential just gone yeah well Eileen very similar to your season of Survivor you had a crazy wild card lovable player and Kelly as well when you're watching Breeze game play out was there any like resemblance to how Kelly was potentially playing the game nothing against Bri and nothing against her personally but if I was in that game I would have been maybe relieved to see her go because she was same thing honestly anyone who's creating chaos confusion unpredictability I am not able to work with them unfortunately and so she's just like a wild card in the faithful community and I mean she was the only person out of the other faithfuls who went to that digging Graves and so I guess it would only be her Andrew and no who could truly explain how she was prior to her Outburst at the round table but honestly if someone does that out of the blue and I guess we're going to talk about later how the other Traders betrayed each other like that's not okay with

6:54 Me no well you know talking about you know breed getting murdered Julia if you're null how do you come back from this right like everyone's been slamming you for literally the past day thinking you're a Trader you're a trador and you're the only one of those three to actually come back alive like how do you come back from that oh man well naturally no is cleaning up now I think no's good for now because this is what I love about the game is the moment you think something's happening it can shift so quickly and that's exactly what we've seen over the last two episodes is that Mike comes in hot also we saw this coming remember we talked about this in the first couple of podcasts we went I and Mike's gonna come for Whitney because she's leading to she was leading beautifully I loved Whitney as traitor by the way she was great but you could kind of see it you could see it happening that there was going to be some sort of coup and I love that Mike went rogue and did that and then now we' we've seen yeah he's in the clear he's in the clear for now do you think his timing was correct or do you think he stepped in a little too soon what are your

8:14 Thoughts is he in trouble now oh he's definitely in trouble now because when you when you lead something like that people are always going to ask questions as to why were you right why were you right that's to me that's suspicious and especially because if it's a change in Behavior who was commenting on his change of behavior the end of the round yes yeah utar and a couple of others had bought it up and said hey you know you've been under the radar and quite quiet and then all of a sudden you've come in gho why and in this game everybody questions everything so it's going to be a really interesting next two episodes to see how this plays out and with Bailey and Utah hot on his trial so exciting yeah well like at the I think it was like near the start of Traders Australia season 2 we saw a very similar move played out where Sam and Blake had targeted Ash in terms of like throwing her under the bus so then that would seem like hey look we are the big strong like you know tra Hunters right we're the heroes of this group is there a point where it's too early to make Ave like this well it's I sort of agree with e there is

9:34 Questions around whether it was the right timing Mike had to do it he was absolutely correct he was not going he couldn't get a word in Whitney was just too powerful too strong so he made the right move but yeah the timing I'm not quite sure but I mean yeah I don't know actually I was so sure of it then that elen has just made question it whether it was too soon actually and now I'm like maybe it was yeah well something had to happen otherwise he was absolutely right or would or would Whitney have come for him you know there's always that fear you know what was she gonna start planting and I do you know what I loved I love that moment where he you know is talking to Jane and she goes what was that and he goes oh she wanted to we had a meeting and she wanted to get rid of you yeah totally made that up I was like oh that was a good lie well I think I think Mike had his opport he had an opportunity in the hoof situation with the maybe he just found something a little crack that he could exploit and maybe another crack wouldn't come along

10:55 May yeah you want before like it seemed like Whitney was liked by everyone but didn't have that one-on-one close relationship with anyone specific so now would be the time for Mike to also exploit that because once she starts really gaining the trust of people then collectively they wouldn't be able to support Mike so yeah I guess he did you know it's a very bold move very early on and you got to respect it yeah well I something that a good friend of mine heish had pointed out when we covered week one was that Mike you can tell from the start he really wanted to play the game he was really trying to make alliances on the car and stuff but since Whitney was such a strong vocal like leader like maybe that's why he was a bit too quiet at the start because he couldn't really play how he wanted to play and I know that you and Ferris had like I guess a bit of a similar Dynamic where you were like quite strategic and stuff and he was also quite strategic but also like quite loud was there any point like a ging Survivor that you thought about turning on feris and was it like ever early or was it like a bit later on in the game yeah of course that it was maybe mid to later on in the game that I was considering getting him out but that wasn't actually my experience at

12:15 The very beginning I think my experience at the beginning was very serious very similar to Mike you know you want I had thought of going into the game being like this leader maybe like a discreet leader being able to influence the group but then all of a sudden I was put on this tribe where like at least four or five other people were way more dominating than me and so maybe like Mike I just you know some of it is strategic some of it is you're forced to pull back a little bit and I guess a more observant role because you can't there's no way to actually vocalize anything and then I guess he found his moment and yeah I actually think we could have been really similar in that regard H well Julia you know just bring it back to NOA but we do see people sort of you know asking him questions and stuff still I think SE is that his name he's still like really yeah he's still like really sus on null and stuff he's not buying anything he's saying what's so good about the Traders is that it doesn't really matter what you do it's just how you're perceived that can change the entire game and we saw with Mark at the start he was perceived to be like a Trader but then we didn't hear from him in a few episodes everyone was kind of fined on him and the similar things stting to happen to null do you think null should

13:35 Try anything to like I guess change his position on in the group or do you think what he's doing now is like I think he's playing a really good game now I think I think with how things have played out he's safe and you can kind of see this the direction and thought patterns of the room changing so I think he's good I think I would if I was null I would just let it happen and not pop my head up I would just go okay cool I'm going to let this play out as it's playing out but you were talking about Mark oh my gosh poor Mark I really like Mark and I love I actually as soon as I saw his face when gosh was it poor Steven went yeah I felt really emotional when Steven went and then I in Reverse my little thing when I was watching it to see Mark's face again I was like oh no Mark don't smile oh my gosh playing he's just playing the guy he's having a ball man he is having a ball and I just bless him I love him I love him and I thought that round

14:55 Table was Savage my mark and cat was Savage and I thought he took it like a champ I just I think he's great you know oh sorry after you all the whole time watching you know I felt actually like frustrated of against the people who were like coming at Mark because I understand from like a super fan perspective you're just happy to be there and I understood the smiles and everything and for people to like take that as some sort of like thing against the faithfuls I think it's ignorance and I think it's just I don't know I think it's dumb honestly like let the person have their moment and it doesn't mean that they're deceiving anyone yeah he's just playing and I to I totally agree I just think I just think he's great and I thought that he was great from the mo from the very start I just hope he can survive the next two episodes them yeah well Julia like something I guess that's pretty safe to say within New Zealand is that we don't really have many massive Super Fan type cultures within our country except for rugby and Sport but that's pretty much it so like on

16:15 Your season were there any sort of like I guess I guess like game related super fans like who are playing and stuff like that for like it's like in his social like Str strategy type games are you talking about like super fans as and Traders or are you just talking about people that were loving playing oh yeah like I guess like super fans about Traders or about like I guess like survival or anything like that no not really and to be honest Outcast I mean we're all quite close and chatty like our group chat on our phone has been pretty busy the last few weeks we're all very close so we were all really just enjoying playing to be honest we were having a ball and it wasn't until and E you'll know this like towards you know when you start getting tired towards the end of being part of a show like this it's that's when your emotions start really coming out because you're tired but I loved playing every moment until probably episode 9 and I was like I don't want to play anymore I'm glad to hear your cohort and

17:35 Everything because just from watching the current season of Enz Traders I'm like concerned about the relationships beyond the game honestly Savage yeah well what we do see here that Mark comes up you know with this plan where he sees Jason and Bailey as Traders simply because like never actually voted for a Trader in the game and I and E I understand what he's trying to do right he's trying to create this like group dynamic and stuff it's like if all of us are like a part of this and as a team we sort of go after them we can sort of like try and surprise them maybe they'll stumble and slip up and stuff but I guess very similar in a game like Survivor where Social Capital does mean so much like did you experience anyone who was like okay e like I think you should do this even though that would like heav heavily like expose you in terms of coming after someone was there a situation like that when you were playing not necessarily I didn't experience it I mean Mo people generally either had my back or didn't they didn't I didn't get forced to do anything I didn't want to do I did have the occasional conversation where Raymond basically

18:56 For if you guys haven't watched like we were in an alliance of three and one of my other alliance members wanted me to go for the other one but not be involved and I was just like that doesn't make sense to me like why do you want me to take the Heat and not you but and I didn't do that yeah and it was just weird like I guess if you're in Alliance together or if you're trying to work together don't put somebody else on the spot like work together and get those numbers because numbers at the end of the day same as Traders majority vote wins so yeah well V after Mark makes that comment and then cat and Jane are like completely furious at him is this something Mark could have done to try and like re things back in or do I think he eventually did I think he came in very unelegant with his plan but then to skip ahead after the confrontation at the round table he elegantly apologized for his social mishaps so I think that is if he had maybe done that sooner but I don't know if he recognized I think Mark explains himself pretty well and I think he sort of barreled in with a fairly flimsy plan and reasoning that no one

20:16 Was really jazzed about anyway so I think he just got over excited sort of blew something out there that was a bit ridiculous and made a bit of a mess of it and then it just sort of went on and on from there so I think he has now redeemed himself and I think people will see him in a new light because he's clearly someone who can take responsibility for his missteps so I think I think now he's sort of fixed it but yeah he was he was really making a few enemies I mean I feel like this perfectly plays into what just happened but the mission in episode 6 Julia where you have two people who have to like assemble a puzzle while everyone else is like tied up but if you want to you can you know you can cut some team members free and stuff like that and they can come and help you out and we see everyone goes all right it should be Utah and n and then Mark steps up anyways like I know that Mark says he couldn't really like hear stuff you know that was going on but like do you think that's was like a smart move for Mark to try and like really step up even when there were like people sort of like disagreeing or not very

21:36 Happy with them even beforehand look I say kudos to mark because you want to be involved you know and you wanna you want to you do want to put yourself forward for Missions you know and there were especially if you're taking a backseat all the time it's you some people take the perspective that perhaps you know they want to be helpful in missions or they want to be you know yeah like contributing to the pot or whatever it is and perhaps Mark was feeling like he hadn't contributed yet and this could be a strong point for him or you know so yeah it's a it's a it's a really tricky one and there's so much pressure as well you know like is this my opportunity to do well at something could I showcase that I'm good at something so you're kind of wanting to work within your strengths because all of the missions are quite different and everybody will have their different strengths so perhaps he said hey this is potentially something that I'm going to be good at so I'll put myself forward but yeah people have just taken it the wrong way unfortunately this game it's so silly well unlike Survivor word challenges are a crucial part to the game where they can literally mean the difference between potentially going home or staying exra a few days in the

22:56 Game how important are the mission in the game of Traders like yes they do add the price part going towards the end but we've seen a lot of drama like especially the one with like the buckets in your season between Sam and F everyone how much do the missions really impact the game in terms of the social strategic level look yeah it's really hard I when I was playing I kind of found that they were a little bit redundant but it's always it was an opport for us and it would be different obviously for you e like us to it off steam because there was there was very little opportunity to it was such a mental game so for us to leave the house that we were at and go to a different location that was that was the your only mental relief I guess to go somewhere else and interact I remember the one day that we did that spy mission with the laser beams we all got to have a pie one of The Producers went and to the bakery and got us a minc and cheese pie and that was truly the highlight of my week the fact that we got a pie from the bakery and we were all talking we're like what the hell they got McDonald's

24:17 Like we got a pie and it was like day eight or something like well eile you had a great moment during your season of survival I think it was after the Charles boots where it was that challenge where you to like hold on to the rope and you outlasted everyone else and essentially potentially saved yourself from getting eliminated that round when is the right time to step up and take on a challenge to I guess be like that hero role like of your tribal of your team and stuff is there a right time to do that it depends I think my right time was when I was desperate and needed to save myself but it wasn't like oh I had just been chilling every single other Challenge and not trying my best I was trying my best but it just mattered more it mattered the most this time and I think you really got a gauge with your team like when it's appropriate to be like I'm really confident that I can do well in this challenge or let others have a go I know in my season in my team you know all I wanted to do was participate in every single challenge but I actually set out of three to four challenges not because I wanted to but because

25:37 There were other people on my team who wanted to have a go as well and you know sometimes it's better for you to give other people that chance to shine because it shows that you're a team player so I think it's mixed well V Let's quickly talk about the mission I don't know about you but there some of the most poorest cutting skills I have ever seen and I used to work in the seafood department at a supermarket and we used to you know cut all kinds of different fish some were rotten some were fresh you know it took me a small while to know how to like fill out a fish right but a rope surely can't be that hard to cut dude I can't talk I wouldn't be able to do any better I'm the least athletic person on the planet so I would I would just be like I would know what to do that looks pretty bad actually on the screen anyway moving on so you know Under Pressure remember time pressure if someone was breathing down my neck going hurry up hurry up hurry up while I'm trying to cut this rope I'd be like I don't want to do this anymore so I you know I can't talk they did far better than I would have just they would

26:58 They would have made that knife blunt for sure yeah it was just a diminishing returns after a while so yeah I felt sorry for that I would have given up I probably would have tried once and gone I guess we're not freeing anyone and run off probably left the game I probably would have run out of the challenge completely and gone do they still have that $10,000 that they had last season can I just go get that well Julia once again I felt so bad for because like doesn't he have like chronic fatigue or something like that and that's why he's got his can or something like that and after he tried cutting Utah free you could tell he was just completely gassed like you could see was like stumbling around and wandering around and I feel like Mark just can't catch a break whenever he tries to be the hero he just his face yeah he really trying and look and that's what I reckon is that he's there to have fun he's there to play you know like he's the Dungeons and Dragons Guy this is the an experience of a lifetime for him it's fun he's enjoying himself and he and he's trying and yeah geeez yeah poor guy Le let's just hope that he

28:18 That he hangs in there but it's looking like it's going to go it's heating up on Mike dang it's exciting it's exciting when we thought J was going to go on you know day one day two and now maybe Jane is g to be our reigning champion who knows well Eileen let's talk about Mike's move so before they even went to the first mission he pulled a few people aside he pulled Molly aside which I've got something great I want to say about Molly but later on he put Bailey inside and side to you know discuss his plan on taking down Whitney in the game like Traders do you think having those one on ones about taking down someone is much better than like a group discussion because it worked really well for Mike that when Mark tried to do a move like this pretty similar he felt flat on his face how do you think would be like a good way to navigate like or Orr a plan to take down a Trader I think the great thing about going to have one-on-one chats is first of all you have just one person to deal with in terms of their emotional and mental like thinking about the game strategically while if you're trying to present

29:38 Your idea to a group of six different people with all these other different ideologies there's more of a chance that you're going to be rebutted with all these different perspectives I think the great thing about having one-on-one chats as well is you're able to gauge how to interact with that person specifically only and so I think it also builds a bit more trust because that person on the receiving end is like hey you wanted to approach me by myself it seems like you value my opinion and I just think that when you're in a group situation especially if you target the wrong person I forget her name but she was very like on the defense mode straight away no you're not going to tell me what I'm going to do and to be able to explain that in front of everyone just creates the sort of like group mentality that oh Mike's in the wrong oh sorry Mark yeah Mark's in the wrong but we do see Mike the second the round table hits he goes sprinting off towards Whitney and he starts laying out all these different things and Julia you know Paul Whitney getting kind of Blindsided here especially about like the hoof in the lung map you know with that like related to a job how do you think Whitney could have defended herself against

30:58 Like Mike coming at her gosh it's really challenging when she was blindsided and two degree Jane was BL well she was not two a degree Jane was blindsided too and it because he kept that in the dark when she's not expecting it to happen from Mike especially I think she was she was preparing herself from for heat because I mean she had already raised that in the car you know like she said I know my name's getting thrown out there Etc but for it to come from Mike I mean that and also as well I thought no offense to Mike as well I thought I know he was probably trying to find something to hook her on to with the sensing I mean that was a freaking hard challenge you know in terms of what body part is this I don't think you know You' you've got to find something to be like are you who you say you are that kind of thing and kudos to that he managed to get it over the line but you know that's something hard to defend on the spot to be like what are you talking about like nobody got it right geez you know oh somebody did but they said it was sheep's lungs not cows which you know yeah hard man

32:18 Real hard real hard to be on the back foot but you got to be prepared for anything in that Round Table you know yeah and V we do see you know we actually spoken about at all this podcast but Britney has also been coming after Whitney for like a minute as well and I feel like Britney with his sort of gang of like mol and Utah really did nail the final Nails in her coffin to see like Whitney packing and that might have been another reason why Mike chose that moment because he knew that he definitely wouldn't be alone that there were some other people thinking of her right now and that may have gone away she may the heat may have died down so maybe he was sort of striking while the iron was hot so yeah but she yeah she just got hammered and yeah I think she headed herself quite well because that would have felt pretty sucky to have a fellow Trader come that hard for you rather than just someone else like Britney or someone so she did very well but it obviously was a time to go yeah well eileene we even see Jane throw a vote onto Whitney as well and one of my favorite analogies in Survivor was actually in Australian Survivor in season 2 where Jericho talked about a drowning cat where if you see a

33:38 Cat drowning you leave it drown because if you try to save it you could drown with it as well so do you think it smart for Jane to sort of like you know p in on trying to drown Whitney or do you think Jane should maybe tried to stuck up definitely I think Jane is playing a really smart game you can see she there's a strategy where you repeat what somebody else has said for them to feel like you agree with them and Jane's doing a lot of that like if someone is expressing their feelings she also concurs and the same goes when you and she's it what she's doing is she's reading the room right if everybody now is suspicious of Whitney you got to be suspicious of Whitney otherwise you're going to be Mark's going to call you out for not voting for every single traitor every single time so she did a very clever and correct move in my eyes yeah agree and Julia we see another queen of traes New Zealand Whitney get taken out with two to two back to back Bri and Whitney what was your thoughts on Whitney as a whole I thought I mean is she was wonderful but I thought she played too early she came in too hot and this is a long game and it's really exciting to watch because you have these interesting characters and game plays

34:59 With people coming out hot really early and you just can't you cannot in Traders you have to get the balance right where you've got h a little a little bit of heat and a little bit not you know you got to get the you got to be mediocre for as long as you possibly can because if you are not mediocre people just and it's really hard to stay average you know being average is actually quite hard and that was my gameplay for as long as possible be average be average be average be average be average yeah so she just played too early and we called it there's been quite a few people that we've seen play too early and that I was so GED to see Brett go yeah she showed that she was too good too soon she should have kept that she knew what was going on she should have just kept quiet we know Brett you are the queen here we knew we know you knew what was going on I just wish that you had just not told people that you knew what was going on yeah well can't be too good yeah well Brett actually heavily reminded me a lot of Brody from your

36:19 Season earlier you know someone who knew exactly that was going on I feel like Brody was probably more of a louder version than Britney but like Britney knew everything that was that was going on and do you think it was the right move for Mike and Jane to take out Britney yes oh absolutely from a trador point of view she had to go she's too good well people knew that she was too good she should have just kept that under the radar you've got if you know what's happening in the game you do not tell people that you know what's happening in the game you just you do you gota play it behind the scenes or just play it ignorant oh really what's happening over here you know you just got to dial it down so if you're too smart you're gonna go yeah well e in a game like Survivor often people keep threats around to sort of protect themselves like going deeper into the game do you think that sort of strategy could work in a game like Traders I guess depends who the threat is it for the Traders or I guess for example keeping mark around where he's always going to cop some heat is a good strategy because oh wait is he a Traer oh wait nah he's not he's a bad oh wait is he a so it's

37:39 Good to keep him around and not murder him because then you don't like who's your next big threat so yeah I guess so yeah and you know unfortunately when Britney gets eliminated you know I was thinking who's going to be next who is going to be the next iconic person that gets eliminated and you know e knows I love sneaky Steve well we have another sneaky Steve in this game Julia and his name is Steven not Steve you know he came out of nowhere and he hit the nail on the coven like his we he says to I think both Mike and Whitney that he's pretty certain the three people who went to dig up the graves were all faithful what was your thought on Steven for his one episode of Glory oh my gosh was that not a hugely emotional round T moment when he came up and everybody firstly had spelled his name incorrectly and thenly pulled the heartstrings of like I'm honest you're my family I'm transparent and I come out with the truth and I speak the truth and everyone's going oh no we

39:00 Eed up mate you could see it straight away and I went yeah you did bastard stepen and that was that was a brutal Round Table it was awful I felt really sorry for everyone in the room because it is awful when you do get it wrong it's awful it is part of the game you get it wrong and sometimes you have to sacrifice your own especially if you're playing to win and you can see where the room is going and you may not be convinced that they're a Traer but you don't have the majority vote you got to let them go it sucks well Eileen unlike Survivor where you can vote someone out for many different reasons like for strategic reasons social reasons or maybe because they're just too weak in the challenges something I find shocking about Traders is simply that like it can literally be just one conversation can literally be one simple movement that can be the cause of you getting eliminated or voted out and we saw that Steven was saying good night to everyone and he looks at Britney and he goes have a good night or something like that or hope you sleep well or something like that it was Goodbye Oh goodbye

40:20 It was goodbye it was something like yeah and that is something that does come up like was there ever a time during your season of Survivor where just like a simple phrase of words like that really affected someone who got voted out or like impacted their game heavily I don't think so but I think as a overly skeptical person just in my normal life like everything anyone said especially at the beginning I took with a grain of salt like everyone's occupations that they said at the beginning even who said he worked at a DVD shop I was like really so I no specific moment but I think I take everything and analyze it probably too much yeah well I mean let's quickly fast forward to the mission because I feel like a lot of Steven's demise also comes from this Mission as well where oh I mean to we've already talked about like the rope and stuff but at the end we see stepen Donna Jane and Cat all not get chosen to come and help up with a mission and they have an ultimate choice to MC Julia where the choice is that they can either like choose a
