1:20 And a lot of people wonder where do these takes come from why is he so confident in all these dumb ideas and decisions well this lovely man taught me how to act way back in 2017. he has been there to support me at every wrong decision I make but make me feel good about it he has seen all the mistakes I make it's in all the right things I make which is pretty rare but ladies and Gentlemen please welcome one of my best friends Hamish how are you bro I'm doing good I and on the note that you were just saying about how I you know I've kind of helped you bring out this chaotic side of you I would just like to apologize for the monster I've created but otherwise yes I'm doing very good the Traders has been cool and so I'm very excited to chat about that today yeah no it's been a great show you know quite often I love reality shows would come to New Zealand I believe we've had our own Survivor We adapted it to no it's not a million dollar Island it's something else it's like the Liberty Island yeah Treasure Island there we go Treasure Island but quite often our router shows don't do that well when it comes to like ratings and you know audience interactions and often it's edits are pretty bad but I really like this I thought it was actually you

2:40 Know absolutely wonderful but before we continue let's say hello to Quick a few audience members we have at the moment Mad Dog Andre Paul Henry came back to our New Zealand TV screens with a big bang for context here's one of our National Treasures yes he is Hamish what's your thoughts on Paul Henry my thoughts on Paul Henry I didn't really know what to expect like before watching him but now having seen him in the first two episodes I'm like yeah there was no one else that could have done this like it probably would have ended up how you described a lot of other New Zealand reality TV but you know now that they've chosen this guy I think like he is going to be such a big part of this show being what it is basically yes now I think poor Henry is a great host he's someone who's quite controversial in New Zealand some people love them other people just absolutely hate them but I think he really perfectly suited the host for the show I feel like so many moments in these first two episodes where he would have like a one-liner or a cheeky comment and it'll just crack me up you know I was on the floor bowling the way here is the way he addresses people like when he's like okay my cocktails I'm like yeah

4:00 And it's like that's right check of these were up yeah and just before we continue thank you very much Andre for the donation of five dollars you know every donation helps it goes straight towards the channel so thank you so much brother for helping support our Channel it really means a lot to all of us but also the Mad Dog himself Jonathan gray welcome to the live this was easily the best first two episodes compared to other three I've seen now I'll be perfectly honest I have seen the start of the Australian traitors I haven't fully finished it I've I know what happens in the American one I know who wins the UK one I've heard a lot of really good things about it but I just haven't had time to really go check those out how about you hey merch is this your first screening of Traders yeah so before you'd mentioned traders to me relatively recently that I didn't even realize it was a thing and obviously it's like been pretty easy to grasp the concert because it's basically just Mafia the card game but like yeah really you know realistic I suppose like they're living in the you know the world of it which is cool the internet is ridiculous really cool you know so quite similar to million dollar Island which Jonathan unit you're there with us the entire

5:20 Time you know we're going in this almost completely blind we're not sure what the end game is like but definitely as a show goes on you know I'm sure Hamish you're pretty excited to see what twists and how it all sort of unfolds say I am and speaking of twist should we mention the first Twist of the game yes we shall we shall so start off you know 19 contestants right and just before we enter the twist let's talk about the cast right so majority of the cast is people who've seen on New Zealand TV before we've got a few News broadcasters got a few people on the radios you know we've got people dancing with the stars but we do have one person completely new it is a first TV screening and it is our mama four kids Robbie what's your first Robbie she has very like outspoken Vibes like she's the kind of person that would just that I feel like you'd get along with at the barbecue and that she's the kind of person that just wants to like speak her mind and like you know yeah she's the kind of person you would either like a lot or be kind of like that's not my own cup of tea you know she has very like polarizing but not on a bad moment

6:40 Yeah no absolutely I love Robbie first two episodes I feel like she was the Underdog really or the entire cast you know she doesn't have a celebrity status you know she doesn't really know everyone and she copped a lot of heat you know at the start as well yeah people were very suspicious of hers I'm really glad that she made it all the way through but also something that Jonathan mutants here as well I think the smaller cast helps it out it definitely does you know problem with million dollar Island you know with 100 people we didn't really get to know everyone right so some people would quit some people would get eliminated and you kind of like who like you know who are these people but you know with these 19 contestants I really feel like we got to know almost everyone like we definitely did see everyone but I feel like we know almost everyone yeah they're like one or two contestants that I kind of want to see more of and I guess they maybe they just haven't got as much screen time because they're not as like Lively or like in the action of some of the others but in general yeah I think you like everyone's got a good fuel lines in the Union yeah absolutely but let's get back to the start you know all the all 19 contestants and there's you know brand new you know flashes cars going into the middle of the countryside I come

8:00 Into really loved I think it was from Robbie which was you know if you ever wanted to break away and Escape you come in the middle of nowhere you know you can't quite escape the Traders Lodge unfortunately you either get killed or we make it to the end but something I really loved which only this happens in New Zealand's shows which is when they got out of the cars you can see a lot of all of the contestants are holding like a cup of coffee that they probably bought at the cafe away yeah like when they come out of the car like I think it was Mike he had like a full-on like large like it seemed like potentially a flat white drink you know and they're just casually walking around but they just stop yeah nothing beats chicken flat white and your pies your Saucy rolls but we get introduced to this twist where Paul Henry comes out and he wants everyone to line up you know he wants people at one end on the left-hand side for the people who feel that they're going to succeed in the game the people who think that they're going to do really well make it quite far to stand on the left-hand side but if you think you're going to be you know like

9:20 If your aunt's going to make it that far you need to stand on the right hand side but the best part about it for me though how much I'm not sure what your thoughts were was this commentary throughout while they were trying to while they're trying to organize the line like they'll talk like oh I don't know if I'm confident I don't know if I'm not and they're just being that they're like this is fascinating absolutely file guys yeah that was so good too what did I say about a single file it's one Loki wrote it's yeah that's great that's great but we did have Colin who's gonna be one of our major stars in the first week he goes right to the front he wants to be you know like you can tell he wants to be the main star of the show he's there to succeed and to win no matter the cost what's your thoughts on Colin I think that you can tell you can tell that he is like a big player like he's wanting to play it like you can see from his social game which I suppose you'll get into as we kind of continue to talk about the episodes but his social game is very on point and I don't just I don't think it's just because it comes naturally like I think that he's definitely playing the game you know I have some like critiques as well about

10:40 Like some of his perceptions and stuff but I guess we'll get to that in due time yeah and we get introduced to a very important relationship this week we get introduced to Brooke and Dan you know they're sort of mentioned in the line that they actually know each other you know from playing poker together which both of them in my mind were almost the Stars on this first week what's your what's your thoughts on there I personally like Dan as a player a lot not just because like some of the things he said in his kind of decisions or like the way he describes like how he makes his decisions not just like that like I resonate with that but I just think that like in general like he's he seems like the kind of person that I would like in person and so yeah I only like I think that I'm team I'm teamed down at the moment yeah it's definitely sort of got this game wrapped around his fingers you know you could almost grow a darling mustache you know everything like slowly twirling it you know being kind of evil yeah I think like he's definitely he's already got some heat and I think there are clearly some very perceptive players that can see that he could be a little slide but that's also his kind of demeanor I think in general he's got that kind of sly demeanor

12:01 Yeah but I think that considering he's already got a tiny bit of heat on him I think he's playing it very well I think he has a very strategic fight for sure yeah definitely but we can't talk about this opening twist without one of the greatest moves I've ever seen on reality TV yeah the Pro Gamer move as I like to call it where Paul Henry says that you know if you don't think you can handle the heat to my kitchen then up on the hill you know just behind them is a sort of plate almost or kind of like a plaque that's got ten thousand dollars worth of silver bars on it and if a player wants to leave day one because they don't think they can handle the heat or take it then they can quickly go and grab 10K initially it starts with the line that feels like the least confident that they'll make it far and none of them go so when I say they want to play but then he turns to the line of people who think they're going to succeed you know the linebear you know the people who want to play they want to play hard and we see a few different you know reaction socks up sucks we see a few different reaction looks

13:21 And then out of nowhere Mad Dog Sam Fury he's like yo I'm out dude he's the most strategic one in the game he is he is you know he gets it all the way out I mean I get his reasoning right like you've got 19 people and let's say you're one of the faithful like unless you get seduced into being one of the Traders which we'll get to soon enough like you could be the person to get killed every night like each night somebody is dying right yeah and if you don't die you could still be incorrectly voted out so generally like two people are living the thing every day or like every night I suppose yeah so when you're one in 19 and people are dropping like flies like you know your odds aren't very high you know maybe you've got confidence in yourself but I guess the bro was just like hey like ten thousand bucks bro like down payment on a house yeah his is you know he's 27 he said he's still on the minimum wage which that's something we could get into you know the minimum wage here in New Zealand for those that don't know that increases almost every three to four months right by an extra 50 cents or by a dollar it actually does yeah and you know I've worked around and

14:42 You know a few different jobs and always start on the minimum wage which when I first started working back in 2019 it was only 18 an hour now I think it's at 24. I remember getting paid 16 an hour that's nuts but yeah you know but Mad Dog Sam you know he's jumped to the curve of the minimum wage and he you know pocketed an extra 10K and then he's out you know he tapped and get Traders New Zealand yeah straight up yeah and I loved the comments from I think it was the other Sam and Mike but they're like you know that is the greatest the smartest move someone can make in this game and Mike even brought up he took like a tenth or a seventh of the prize money and lift just by showing up on day one which yeah bro was like smarter not harder you know yeah exactly before we continue I said there's a lot of comments let's quickly go back to them what's this he was running away from dance kitty cat as poke player out of his side and check it out then yeah

16:02 Absolutely do you know why like run together the 10K when you know you sign up to play a reality show and it's like you're there for it but then you leave on day one you know it's it seems a little strange like I feel like it's so hard to be like passed on a reality show because there'll be so many people trying to get in and so it's kind of weird that like you would put in that effort and like try to get in and then you're just like nah I'm out yeah and something else Andre says here he's picked up on Dan Hamish where Daniel to tell the area below his eye twitches oh okay I'm gonna watch out for that next time we see it yeah me too me too yeah it is pretty interesting how when everyone lies we all have some sort of giveaway or something that we do that shows we're lying you know I think only very few people can actually Master light without giving any takes away in terms of personality changes physical changes yeah it's like hard to smile sometimes in your life yeah also Andre here very happy the production with the cube banter human Shone through yeah I mean that's what's so great about New Zealand shows is like the banter and the human we have

17:22 I feel like often without sort of like our contestants are human stuff it's very banter based so I love that not only other contestants bantering with each other but so is Paul Henry you know there's a moment which this made me almost fall to the floor laughing where it's during one of the missions and they have to find the silver coin and someone's like chick behind the painting and he's like do you really think if I lost a silver coin it'll be behind the painting it's like well it's pretty weird it was under a pool table and said yes that is unusual I grant you oh yeah it was yeah inside the lodge there is a painting of Paul Henry in like you know chain mail he's holding a sword yeah let's see what Jonathan gray has to say here I take a guarantee seventh yeah that's definitely true I feel like it depends what type of show it is though you know I feel like if it's a show where you know that like for example like million dollar island or potentially even Survivor

20:02 You I got you I have the same energy from you Michael and a monkey in it terrifies me [Laughter] what can I say thing and I'm like decline [Laughter] is it anyways let's move along shall we so we're going into the lodge and you know there is a lot of a lot of chatter between the contestants a lot of them seem to know each other we sort of had a bit of a broadcaster's three sort of at the start with Mike Robin I think Matt was in there as well not sure and sort of small alliances we're making but the bit that really got me Hamish was Kimberly the sidekick she tells us that she doesn't want to you know expose too much information because that could seems like a threat to other players which cuts to her straight away telling people that she's a side to cook and she'll probably end up you know like finding out who's a Traders what's your what's your thoughts on Kimberly so I understood it differently in the beginning I the way that I thought she was meeting him was like do you tell people she's a psychic but not tell people what they're like what she wants getting but like so she had

21:22 This Huntsville this you know psychic sense that somebody was one of the Traders or you know whatever that she wouldn't say that she'd be like Oh I'm psychic but not actually show anyone anything yeah I think that's what she meant but I'm pretty sure she ended up being like Oh yeah I have 100 to this person yeah something that I found to be quite funny was they hadn't even organized the roles here Bill the contestants were talking about who the Traders would be as so you had Robbie's name get thrown around and Dylan's name gets thrown around as the sort of main two people on who could be the Traders and this was before they've even had the selection so I would get it if they were expecting Paul to pick who the Traders would be based on I guess their personalities who he thought would make a good Trader and stop looking thinking like oh like I reckon Paul will pick this one I guess that conversation is kind of justifiable then and I mean they didn't edit you know us being able to see them say that if that's what they said yeah it does seem a little weird it's like oh you don't even know yeah and but one thing I did really love was as we were going into the throne room or you know the room where they vote who they think the

22:43 Treasure is they have different sort of moments with each of the contestants with Paul Henry and he asked them yeah pretty much long story short do you want to be a traitor or a faithful and we see many different sort of reactions to this where on the one hand you've got people who think that they won't lie and that there won't be that good when it comes to deceiving people and then you have another group of people who's like yeah I want to be a Trader I want to spice up the game and be really strategic what's your what's your thoughts on the whole difference between I think that it was a cool thing that they got because obviously like he can kind of observe them and be like oh this person has seen his work but yeah you're not going to know what somebody's you know thinking to tell you yeah and it's cool that he could see that like for example Phillies is just like oh you know my mom wouldn't like it me too and he's like irony almost [Laughter] but you could see that he wouldn't bully have been in it like he might not have played it so well yeah just not the kind of person that he is and that's fine so I know I think it was cool and I think that the only downside of that is there were people who probably expected like yeah I'm gonna be a Trader

24:03 And then they didn't get it yeah I think Colin was probably one of them yeah definitely like you could tell even in this interview and the way he was sort of walking to the room he thought he was definitely a Trader wanted to be a Trader oh absolutely like do not know who I am hey man you know you know I love to cause cows you know I like to muck things up you know so yeah how about you I think that because the way the way he asked the question was like you know what it like which of the trading faithful what's closest to your personality and so the strict board answer to that I think would have been faithful but then I probably like the way I see it is the only way that you can get promoted well like you know kicked off of the show as a Trader as if you get voted out yeah and if you're a faithful you could get voted out or you could also just get murdered on the first night and then you feel like you're almost safer to be a Trader so long as you can play it well and I think I could probably play it well so I would pick a Trader just because there are less opportunities for you to well in theory there are less opportunities for you to get kicked off of the show yeah definitely well one thing a woman said you do have a great a great Poker Face just like how you're telling me the story of

25:23 How you dropped a rock on your foot you go you guys into the hospital you told me that was such a straight face and I just could not help but burst out laughing despite you being in it's been so much fun like you believed me when I told you I didn't think you were funny but we get into the room and you know Paul Henry he's going to choose three traitors and he ultimately chooses Dan the poker player he chooses Lauren who's on Dancing With the Stars and he chooses radio broadcaster Matt what's your what's your thoughts on this combo of Traders bro so like on paper that is so golden right it's like you've got like the sweet innocent one no one suspects you've got like the funny radio presenter who's you know a little bit Goofy and he's clearly playing it up because he wants to seem down at any actually he's probably actually quite intelligent but you know he plays at the old dumb card and it works like it flipping it works well and then you've got Dan who is like kind of more what you'd expect the trailer to be like but I think

26:43 He is very cunning and so that even though it might be more predictable as a Trader He's Able still to sway people away and play the game that people don't suspect them anymore he did a really good move at the at the first like banishing Council which we'll get to so that's the little yeah you know teaser watch if it is for the end date no but yeah I agree with you I feel like this out of all the combos they could have maybe chosen this was the perfect combination you had you had Matt who's extremely social yeah Dan who's very strategic and I feel like Lauren I feel like she did kind of get a bit lost in the edit at times I feel like overall I think she seems like someone with a lot of potential and that's the thing a lot of potential I think that she probably did some things well man I feel like she didn't play I feel like you know what ended up happening is definitely because of a few misplays and things that she said and how she said it and it's just like bro why you give yourself away like yeah but as soon as the trans is selected everyone's

28:03 Able to go out and about and socialize for a bit everyone's sussing each other out and once again everyone's piling on Mad Dog Dylan thinking oh he's obviously the trader he's obviously the trader you know what is it about Dylan that just makes him look so suspicious in your opinion I think that he I think that he is so on to it and you know he's trying to be perceptive and he's trying to he has that kind of like you know the stalking cat like you know he has that demand at least while he's playing the game like he's very like intentionally deceptive if you get what I mean and I think that kind of energy like people see that and they think of it as this kind of cunning Sly and like that so while he's trying so hard to find out who the Traders are he kind of inadvertently ends up looking like a Trader himself yeah not the opposite spot on but someone who also get a lot of suspicious talk of is Matt you know Matt you know he's trying to he's trying to play dumb he's trying to be extra social at one point he forgets like what show they're even on when it's obviously yeah but

29:23 But we really see Brooke gives her a lot of work here where Brooke is he able to point out the sort of big change in Matt and how he's playing a bit dumb but also but later on he also like really pushes hard on Lauren and is able to put a lot of a lot of pressure on her what do you what did you think of Brooke in this episode I think that Brooke is clearly very small I think that he's probably I almost feel like he's I don't think he's in a bad spot right now but I feel like he seems like the kind of planet couldn't play too high he could play that scares the trade is too much but like I think he'll come up with this great plan of oh I'm pretty sure this is the trailer I'm gonna try to help them I feel like he's not gonna do that very well when he's not gonna strategize that very well but I think he's clearly like got the right idea you know what I mean yeah as far as him being on too long goes I mean well I don't know what to say like she outed herself so many times like when Owen asked her I and I think he was joking but he also figured she was a traitor but he was just like so who are you going to murder tonight and she's like oh you know yeah

30:44 I wouldn't have the heart to do that and I'm just like just tell him you're like that yeah pretty much pretty much she should have just been like yeah [Laughter] no but eventually all the Traders have been given a challenge where they have 45 minutes to sync the number seven ball like in a game of pool and I believe they can only do it once so they can only sync at once so the max they could went up to is three grand you know one grand being per Bull and we see Lauren really just start straight out of the gate you know she really throws herself out there she tells us that she doesn't normally play a lot of games at the bar or at the pub and there was so much foreshadowing here where people are talking about slip ups and giving so much stuff away and they just want to talk about that they'll just come to her like absolute butchering a shot at a pool interesting I didn't pick up so like because I don't think at the time that she was giving anything away and while she was playing pool but I see what you're saying like the edit was kind of to hence the fact that she would give a look interesting yeah but we see you know

32:04 Lauren you know she's trying to think the seven ball and I think Dan calls it like the worst double games and history of playing pool and because no one's just thinking anything yeah and then you know Matt he just okay she gets invited to come along and he Aces it he thinks the seven ball which then shortly after Lauren she sings her number seven Ball but Dan he comes in he says you know I've played quite a bit of pull of my time you know he's a little bit cocky about it he's the only one who does not think the seven ball yeah I remember thinking about the same thing I was like I had a full blame like if you know I don't know that kind of guy that would be good at Paul and poking everything you know so yeah I would say the key strategy for pool is the long game we wait for the other person to stuff up at the end and that's how you win but unfortunately don't have 45 minutes so the long game was not enough not an option but it did not work in that instance yeah but something I did love was Matt was playing for the other strut not the other stressful but like you know hole in Stripes he was playing for the other suit but he sings the seven ball builds the wrong turn they're like oh man he's like oh is yeah oh

33:24 My gosh he was obviously really playing on the way like not like as onto it kind of hard that he's been doing and so I think he would be the best to give you the most believable you know yeah and once again we get given another scene where Kimberly says that she will reveal the sidekick abilities at like you know Devon in place but she's already got four locked suspicions yeah I don't know how I felt about feel about her as a player I think that she because of the fact that she's a psychic and the trade is pulled in well like she's very easily influence him again because it's like you know when you believe in it like there are people there that clearly listening to it and so she could just throw on any you know she could even not happen psychic and just hold people there so that they would you know listen to her you know that yeah but one of the people we do see her you know called out is Robbie has been one of the Traders what does she think about their little rivalry they had going on oh man Robbie she's had a

34:45 Hot on that game because I feel like she's just because of like a character I suppose you know they would have been like I feel like she's a little bit like the odd one up and it's crazy particularly such an outspoken person and you can see she's the kind of thing this is what's on her mind without maybe thinking it through so that you know sometimes that would be good for her because I'm not because I guess people gravitate toward that social butterfly nature but you know it could be yeah I think that it's just not been an easy game for her and so she's done well to stay and started yeah no absolutely Robbie I feel I shared a very tough first couple of episodes but by the end she was able to come on top thankfully but before she comes out on top we get given another challenge where Paul Henry just casually loses four silver coins in his lodge which is very you know as you do on a Wednesday morning just lose a few you know so silver coins are on the plates and they have seven minutes to try and find all these silver coins so bring it back to him

36:05 What do you think of this mission I feel like so much of the show and I'm not dogging on it like I find it hilarious but I find that so much of the show and like in particular like his prisons in the show it's just him flexing that he has money he's like I'm still on my boss pretty much pretty much and I think that actually was a cool little challenge in like sequence because you got to see some people like talk on their like you know their side interviews the confession was about their thoughts and how it should have gone like I forgot which one said it actually but it was the it was one of the radio presenters I think and he was saying like oh I wish that you know there was some more leadership somebody stood forward and said you guys go to that room you guys go to that other than scrambling and so you can see people kind of like it was interesting to see their perspective and I also think it was a cool sequence because it gave all time to build that funny roasty relationship and his weird with the players so like you know there's already that kind of banter going and you know to allow everyone to become very natural that was cool yeah absolutely and they were able to locate three out

37:25 Of four of the silver coins before the time ran out which then we immediately go to a trust exercise where everyone's given a drink and a green file and all of them have to pour the screen file into the cup of the person who they don't trust the most and I feel like that this was a really interesting way to do things because we start off immediately I wrote it down where we just find it real quick you know this is somewhere right here with lots of my notes ah here we go where Darth Vando immediately paused it into Brook's cup because she didn't want to hide the fact that she thinks that you know innocent and in all Goods who kind of wanted to play it up like ah he could be maybe a bit but out there to sort of protect her right because Trader and she would you know she was correct that she had targeted a Trader they might she was thinking that they might want to get her out because she's gonna yeah so she's trying to Target somebody who she didn't think to be able to get her up no

38:46 I mean I like the mentality I think that the Traders are smart enough to know not to just always go for the people going for you because it's obvious but yeah I mean I like her mentality yeah I don't think that's what I would have done myself because I think there's also a lot of power and rallying everyone up against who you don't think it's trustworthy yeah but yeah it was I see the strategy yeah not definitely and yeah it was a very interesting Dynamic of votes where Sam had Porters into Colin and Colin was like you're dead to me with that I do like that about it yeah Lauren put us into Dylan Phil also to Dylan and then Robbie just gets slam dunked with pretty much everyone she gets you know the grandfather from Dylan Kimberly Anna Kings Matt and you know eventually you know she saw how the tables were turning so she just pulled her own green file into her own cup yeah just like a funny thing I actually think that was a smart strategic player and maybe this is like overthinking it but hear me I read it if she had like six people voting you know saying that they trusted her the least and then she was
