0:00 Welcome back to the nullify Tech Channel on YouTube where we've got the TNT takes for you on Australian Survivor Heroes versus Villains I'm here with one of the runner-ups of the latest season Jerry how you doing mate I'm doing really well Chris after the after the game and now that the show has finished getting back into reality and normal life and pushing forward yeah what is normal life like for you now that you're sort of semi-famous I guess over in Australia do you get people recognizing you on the streets well I've always been famous around the Fraser coast and around the Sunshine Coast everywhere I've been here doing this for 34 years so I'm well known but now it's the demographics of just well the geographic area is just widened like in Melbourne there last week for the finals I probably got every 200 yards before somebody sought for a photo Sony Brisbane Sydney and I've got a great following from America it's incredible that listen you'll be surprised this channel has people watching the channel and podcasts are clearly they're watching Australian Survivor from the Middle East from the Philippines

1:20 We've got people from Poland you're they're a lot of places did you know that Survivor was this big phenomenon before you even went on there to go play it now that let's go back to back to the start yes I didn't apply for this the guys that ever find that they found me and asked me did I want to go into Survivor and they gave me about nine weeks and I thought daddy should be what do you want to do with an old fellow like me you know and they said no you've got you've got what it takes like with the crazy things I've done off Fraser Island the odd plane crashes the people I've saved and all that sort of thing so I gave him a lot and then we started and I never actually seen a Survivor program before you know when it also oh yeah but certainly season five which is the All-Stars and lee Castle being in it because I know Lee I do I've done a bit of film work with him and I got into it and they left me alone for about four yeah about two weeks and Pam said to me oh well you better get into this Survivor said no they found somebody better and all of a sudden they contact me again said all right we want you to do this is this you're going to the next stage like oh bloody

2:40 Hell so what I did two and a half weeks before I started training I changed my training regime and started doing different things which I thought would fit the game and two and a half weeks prior to going I sat down and I watched 220 hours of Australian Survivor and wow I agree I just planned it and crammed it and cranned it and cranned it and I became a fan I became a fan a big fan not only did I become a fan I didn't use it or I didn't look at it for entertainment I looked at it as for a training video I learned a lot from there and which gave me a head start on a few of the other first-timers that had never seen the show of the game before so yeah you know again well what was the this is fascinating stuff what was the biggest thing that you learned from watching it that you thought applied to actually playing the game because there's a lot of people like myself out there that we're big fans who watch all these seasons and one day we would like to play the game as well we would like to believe if we go out there we've got what it takes but it's obviously a different thing from watching it to playing it so what did you take from watching it

4:00 Into the game that helped you out there well being a first timer of course what I learned was yep you've got three parts per game you've got to hit your social pod you've got your technical part and you've got your Fitness for your for the for doing all the challenges the challenges so I am 107 years old you're going to help me out a bit but it's not Thirty percent thirty percent thirty percent there's 10 challenges there's ten percent Technical and ten percent you know for social then it's about 70 luck yeah it's what I thought that's what I learned and I learned to going into the game I was fairly fit but I was carrying a few ingredients and but if you're a bit too mouthy and say that you can do all these things you're going to get voted out fairly early especially if you can't deliver I wasn't too bad at a lot of the things like the Rope pulling the puzzles and things like that but I didn't want to admit it so I said oh look on I've practiced a

5:20 Bit sir but I didn't do it and I realized the oldest is first boot yeah how the bloody hell am I going to get around that and if you were too nasty you're going you're going to be voted out so yeah if you're too good you were going to get voted out so yeah you can't win anyway so you've just got to go in there with that mindset I think when I went into the game I undersold myself too much with the challenges and so they put me on the bench a fair bit I did do my back the second day in building the shelter I did design the shelter and I got a few of the team to help me and apparently it was one of the best shelters ever built in Survivor history like it was four meters deep by about six seven meters long and oh you could you could put both drives in there at once and because I'm a bit of an old farmer and I'm a bit of a bush Builder and I can do that stuff and there wasn't too many other people that could actually yeah do it so and so yeah so I thought that was actually part of my social game to

6:40 Do that and to show them that I was worthwhile and you know fire skills Bush skills and things like that are not tying skills on I'm really good at so that came in useful for the first few days and of course we were winning challenges left right at the center for the first week or so nobody was going home and Sally we all got to know each other but apparently my social skills did let me down a little bit with the with the hierarchy but that's fine like you know I had wonderful social skills with a lot of other people as you've seen through the course of the game and I made a lot of good friends you know so you can't you can't be everybody's friend I actually have a saying if you want to be everybody's friend you have no friends and that's down or true you know so or you don't have a personality almost sometimes because I feel like you know when you stand for something they're always going to be people who agree or don't agree with that so if you've got a strong personality and you believe in something you're not just wishy-washy and going with the sort of I guess the herd then there's always going to be people who don't like you well that's it and

8:00 You know I am carrying a bit of age these days and I'm setting my ways and yeah I stick to what I believe in and if I feel that I need to stand up and say something I will whether it's going to get me into trouble or not at least everybody knows where they stand so you did see that I did do that a few times especially in the beginning there and yeah that's it got me to the middle of the game and it's sorted out now who I wanted to work with who I didn't want to work with and that's where my social skills let me down because you know I call spade a spade and if I don't like you or I don't want to work with you well I'm not going to socialize with you neither that's it that's obviously a bloody mistake it's great it's great in life it's not necessarily great in Survivor I feel like people who is willing to work with everyone but then again you got to the end so you that's right I'm the first time around I'm fumbling my way through it to God's sake you know and I do want to go I do want to go back to the beginning before we get too deep into your game you watch the show you watched over 200 hours clearly

9:21 You knew a few players potentially that could be out there were there any players that you were thinking to yourself when you saw them out there damn I don't really want to go and play against this person because they're too bad not no not that I didn't want to play against them I like because it was all fresh in my mind I knew everybody by side as soon as I seen them yeah I'm a little bit brain dead but the names that escaped me at times but faces I can remember and we got off the planet some more and when they locked us all in this room and we're all supposed to still be Incognito type and next you know George takes his head out and he starts walking around and watching George in season six brain versus bro oh God and I'm seeing now and I go oh there's George but it was incredible yeah it's not I wasn't frightened of him or anybody else and yeah and you look at Sean Hanson he's six foot seven that doesn't worry me I'm don't get intimidated against anybody as you would have seen in through the season nobody intimidates me yeah but George I just

10:41 I just didn't want to go there and then but when I got voted off into the villains and I just watched the demographics of what was going on there for the first day and I've seen a big riff and I knew where I wanted to go and I wanted to go and lastly to George and get to know him and hey we're best friends he's a bloody good bloke and he's the great guy to work with you know what's George like what's George like as the TV character that we see versus who he's actually like out there because I feel like you know and I could be wrong because obviously I'm watching a TV show but I do feel like George wraps up his personality for good television sometimes on the show what's the difference like being out there with someone like George versus what we see as fans on the show out in the game or at home here both give us a little bit of insight for both I guess in the in the game like you know he's one of the best players that they are on the planet you know and I believe that I really firmly believe that I agree with you and to watch him work is just magic and to learn things from

12:01 It and it's incredible and so but yes the TV show is the TV show the game is the game you know one hour of TV is 48 hours in the game that's how I describe it and as you know a lot goes down behind the scenes and but he's pretty well true to his word what he's on the TV screen he's pretty well a bit like that in the game and but you know what you didn't see is we did make a lot of decisions together and I think you'll get hold of George and he will he will say that he'll bring that to your attention bring the truth I saw that in Ponderosa by the way when he went to the jury Villa afterwards he was very much on the jury train he was trying to sell you as the better player prior to going to the final Tribal Council so clearly he respected your game a lot indeed we spent a lot of time together in the game and the big problem is that the other crew that well when I went on my revenge Rampage calling you know there's six of them that I needed out of there I didn't I don't know how I was going to

13:21 Do it but they had to go for what they did to Shani and what they did to meet a semi Ava and the way that I was treated so I just I just seen red and I just said no I don't know how I'm going to do it but they're going they're going they're going they're all good hit list and George I thought that was great and he respected that but the other guys didn't see what was happening behind the scenes with George and I because I just went a bit self with that and that's that didn't do my game any good at all but not only that there was a there's obviously a bit of your feelings towards me because they couldn't they couldn't get in and knock my crust down see to get inside once they realized that they stirred up a bloody Hornet's Nest within me you know so yeah so yeah it's a little bit of George you mentioned George in the game what's it like since you guys are now out of the game have you stayed in touch because it kind of seemed like you know Liz was saying yourself George and Matt were kind of like a family like a dad with his two sons out there well the well that's correct and George and I we spent a bit of time together he's after the game he's been

14:41 Up to Queensland to my place a few times I've been down there I've even stated Pam and I've stated his mum and Dad's place and awesome it's no it's we're but just we're just great friends and we're just chilling and out in real life he's exactly the same he's exactly he doesn't change like you know it's just George so we need a camera crew following George around the whole time is what you're saying we should just make a change out of his life I tell you what I don't believe that guy because he's like a rogue scholar whatever subject that you can hit him up with he will come back and just fill you with so much information it's not funny his brain capacity is just above anything I've ever seen before in my whole I'm going under 65 now you know 65 years of life yeah it's incredible he's incredible to watch and I love talking to him because the information is stored in that brain of his is incredible yeah it was it was you know I think for us fans at times you know there's that thing where you want the Apple car to be upset as a fan because you want to see a bit of action did you get some people sometimes coming to you

16:02 A bit frustrated since you didn't make a move against George or you were sort of advocating for George in the game saying he's praying this great game what is the fan reception been like and what is it that you can Enlighten us as fans that only someone edit a TV show as to why you stayed true to that Alliance rather than sort of shaking things up in the game well number one I'm a first timer number two if it's not broke don't try to fix it and yeah I copped a lot of flattening especially from Australian fans that I'm a goat I'm a pawn I'm all this sort of stuff and I'm too old I shouldn't be there hey look everybody's got their own right to have their own opinion that's fine that but I will say with what's coming out of out of America at the moment out from over your way it's all positive and they really love my game so hey I'm happy you know I'll put up with the bad stuff over a bit of bad stuff over here and collect all the good stuff from your place but yeah the reason the reason why I played my game the way I did especially after well when I got sent to the Village tribe I got together with George we you've seen one meeting and

17:22 I think we had about three little meetings in the two that didn't make the edit and we agreed and it was sort of like an instant bond between us both we could feel it we could both feel it then we could both feel that you know we could we could pretty well trust each other and then we put a plan together that if we and I said I didn't say that I had to go back to you know the hero tribe that's what was all about I said look things are going to get weird I may have to go back I said but trust me just trust me with it doesn't matter what happens you and I are tight don't worry about anything else and I'm a man of my word and I think he felt that he knew that and so when I did go back and we made a bit of a plan if we could get together again if we could last long enough to get together again because don't forget they'll head hunting both of us on both times right the heroes want to be out or the majority of them and the majority of the villains wanted George out so you know we're both Walking Dead

18:42 But we did get together the cards lent our way and in the tribe slot and we drop the Buffs George come over to the heroes so did Stevie and things like that and I've just gone bang right we've got it so while we're there we had we had page left we had young Benjamin and we had flick and of course Maddie was part of the team and like page and Benjamin I needed to get them out first for what they did to Charlie yeah that's oh can we can we talk about Benjamin specifically just for a second Benjamin was seen as an outsider similar to yourself from the start by the hierarchy that's what looked like fuss's viewers what was the main reason that you've when you went back to the euro stripe you seem to not really want to work with Benjamin either at that point what was the main reason for that why was Benjamin such an outcast in that tribe from your perspective obviously oh look he was he was always playing every side that he could but

20:03 Being on the bottom with Shani and Hayley and I thought that we could work together but I just I couldn't trust him all that much but I sort of like had him as a number that we could use maybe but I didn't get to be able to utilize that because the next challenge was the controversial challenge of course with the with the Box between Paige and Shani and then Ben went and did what he did that night at Tribal Council and that destroyed him in my eyes yeah no and once you know it's look I never say never you know it's people cross me all the time and I usually just wipe them straight off the off the planet but you know if you know some people I'll come back in you know take back in like George did when the upset when Nina and I was in the compound but no that there was no coming back from that no coming back from that whatsoever so Shani was that person you had that great relationship from the start you had a great

21:23 Relationship with her she was very attached to you was she the main reason that you went back to the hero stripe at that point in the game to go and play with both her and Haley and what was your relationship with Matt like in those early stages in the game okay yeah 100 I went back for I went back to Shawnee okay and so I was sitting on Easy Street back of the villains like it was really good because they really liked me like both factions of the villains sure I'd like me so it was it was really fun it was good but no Shawnee was there Shani was on the bottom we had Benjamin on the bottom and Haley was on the bottom because she's the one before and Hayley was really worried there in the earlier days and so I went back Maddie and I got on really well right from day one day one and like when the big boys said at the end you know that you know I should be able to socialize with younger people as well as older people when I said that there was a yeah we went well I yeah we were wired differently well match 20 2017

22:43 He was 28 you know and I'm 64 and we got on like brothers so you know I can't get on with people young all my staff are in their early 20s but now he was a real likable young man genuine we got on well and we understood each other and watching him come into the game and you had the AFL players and things like that well that's his bag you know he loves his football and all that sort of stuff and he looked up and invited these guys and they could see that and so they used that this and this is this is my opinion okay shout out the bloody window if you want but you know I'm not too bad at picking it and I could pick these guys and they were they were just using Maddie as a number and they're just drag and even dragging him in dragging him and dragging him in same as young Paige but so and I thought no I'll just let him go let him go and they'll burn him but hopefully not too much and we'll keep him on board and I'll just keep his friends and if we can jump forward on

24:04 That map thing and our relationship if you remember the pizza challenge and Sam took the scroll out of the out of the pizza box well I was standing right behind Sam I was actually leaning over his shoulder and I said in a into Sam's ear hey what do you got there but those guys in the hierarchy had written me off that much my voice didn't even resonate to them you know what I mean they it was just background noise and so he didn't hear me and I almost I was almost right in his ear when I said it so I witnessed that and he then went and got David and Sean and they ran away they ran away down the path and I just grabbed Shawnee and said hey look at this and they didn't take Maddie hmm so Matt was supposed to be one of the meat trays like he was he was supposed to be up there with one of them no they left him bloody cold and I thought ah I'm right and Shawnee and I discussed it and so I held on to that for quite

25:24 A while till after merge until they started to rope Maddie back in to knock off George and that's when I pulled Molly aside and I said hey mate remember the pizza box the pizza Challenge and I bought it to his attention and he's still like face dropped a bit and going oh really I said yeah mate they hit they hit all that from you so they're not your friends so that's what actually brought Matt on with George and I 100 it's interesting because again it shows timing is so key and when you let information go because a lot of the times you see players and you're a first-time player playing the game and having that instinct to hold on to it for the right moment was excellent I've seen players play many a times and overplay their hand with information too early and then they don't have that at the right moment to make a move one of those moments where you really did have a massive role to play and who went home was the Stevie vote obviously Liz and George and Shawnee had a power struggle going on at that point and we see right in front of us on the cam George pulling you aside to have that conversation with you in regards to where to go what made you gravitate towards Maddie over Stevie at that time you know because obviously you had that relationship I'm assuming you wanted to keep him in the game over Stevie

26:44 And what was the pros and cons to keeping either one of them in the game at that point okay yeah well that was very interesting because that was flick taking the girls in and oh great social play by the way great social play Ricky is bloody beautiful to watch hey yeah like I just look at her at all you know to watch how she can just go and manipulate those two girls and take them away I got in trouble for expressing how it was but it was a beautiful thing but anyway it doesn't matter but when George pulled me aside and he said right Mario City and it had to be Matty because Maddie and I had gone back to day one and we discussed that you know off the coffee hour let's see if we can take each other to the end and ending and so we had that relationship right from where we go although I Love Stevie I Love Stevie to death and but the thing is it's a there's many was a lot easier to work with than Stevie at times and Stevie don't get upset with me

28:04 Because you know Stevie would want to play a different game and Chase things around I think a bit and which could have got us into might may have got us into a bit of trouble yeah our podcast there's a Stevie love podcast by the way we love Stevie so one people want to talk to him like Stevie's been up to my place you know it's been days we've been you know I've taken him to The Glass House mountains because I do a lot of free climbing and nice together and all that sort of stuff and I think in June we're going down and camping with him but so yeah he was smoking mirrors he was smoking mirrors he always wanted to change the planned try to get extra votes and things like that so I could see why you said that it's probably the easier Road was to go with someone that you can work with and can rely on well that's it yeah and yeah he is and so yeah it was it was a no-brainer and but I'll tell you I had a tear in my eye we he was fun although he was he was high maintenance at times it was Bloody fun and it was fun to have around and we all had a really good relationship going with him and especially Matt and I and but anyway it went the

29:24 Way it went and I was really upset and you didn't see it at that at the final that the final tribal but I think flick asked me what was my biggest regret the whole game and I said and they didn't make the company in it but said voting fever out too early that was my biggest regret but it had to be done yeah well you didn't have a choice at that stage because it was going to be Stevie or Matt it really it was never going to be Liz or Shawnee at those early stages what was it like playing the game with Liz and Shawnee and knowing that George was kind of also close to them and then you and Matt on the other side were you ever fearful that George was going to sway more towards the girls over yourself or was it like managing that Alliance look I knew George was bouncing from one to the other and just trying to hedge his bets all the way through but I believed in George that he would always come back and he'd always have you know me in his mind somewhere along the line and the girls weren't a threat to me not at that point as the game went on and on and on and the

30:45 And the players got less and less and less yeah we had to strategically vote people out and the girls had to go and no that's not a sexist remark by the way no I wouldn't and this is the thing with Survivor sometimes people would be like well you know look at that there's the Sexes because we've had four girls but it's the way the strategy just comes together and the way that you know you were close with Matt and you know sometimes you're closer with certain people because you've got more in common and I don't get why people look at it that way and it's a late game because it's interesting because you got the two goals but then also you get to the merge and George brings in Haley who's a real life friend of hers like were you alarmed at that point you kind of needed the numbers but wasn't it a little bit alarming for him to bring in a real-life friend were you aware how close they were outside of the game yes Haley did we did have a little bit of a chat about it and I knew that they were close and no it's I didn't feel any threat I like Hayley and Hayley like me yeah we got on okay and she treated me with respect and I treated her with respect and so but after we got rid of this text so the hierarchy

32:05 And the people I wanted out I said to George dancing well okay who do you want who are we going for and to get to the end everybody else had to go and so it was a it was a George Matt and I show to the end and that's the way I always looked at it and although I was close to the to the to the girls and but no they had to go yeah going to get us to the end no it's fair it's true and Simon went from Zero to Hero this season for a lot of people myself included like at the beginning I was like what is he doing why is it with George you know but by the end I think everybody loved him he was the Aussie battler you know going from the bottom trying to work his way in what was it like playing the game with Simon especially because he was coming on to both you and Maddie so hard about flipping sorry for them and I forgot about you well look going back to when we went into when I converted over to the yeah it's I could see the rift between George and Simon and Simon was

33:26 Just already and George was so controlled and I thought no I've been in business for a long time and I know where I'm going yeah because I had a choice which side I could go on whether it be Simon's or George's and I heard both parties and I'm going to George and that's where it was always going to be Simon was going to be a very early vote actually and just after I got rid of my six you know Simon needed to go then or that's what we had planned or even in between getting rid of my crew but he although challenged bees everything else he wasn't as big a threat as other players in the game so we go right oh we'll vote we'll vote Simon out this time no this is more important there's you know another fire started burning over here to your right or your left and that no put Simon back on the on not on the bench and we'll get rid of this one tonight yeah so that's the right and that's why he lasted as long as he did yeah

34:46 Well how was how was Simon you know because we see in the edit we see those moments where he's heated he's coming up to you guys call you Pawns in the game which probably doesn't help with fans also calling you pawns but and George calling you a porn as well by the way I hope you I hope you got back to him for that but you know I know his TV at the end of the day but you know how's Simon outside of those moments is he like that all the time or did you have some fun moments with him out there because I've had some conversations with Simon outside of this and he seems to just be a really nice down to earth guy from the conversations I've had so what was it like when he wasn't calling you out in the game I just he didn't exist as far as I was concerned so I didn't socialize with him at all no outside of the game we are friends and we have got to know each other a lot better and yeah outside of the game and in real life is a is a bloody nice flag and I don't know if you saw the jury Villas scene at all where he was cutting George's beard for him and they made peace and I thought that was such a great moment because in the game you go hard but you leave it in the game if you take it with you afterwards then clearly you know what's going on it is a game at the end

36:06 Of the day I know it's a lot of money at stake but that's the kind of moments I think we love to see yeah well I think even though I really needed the money you know to help support my business after coded but in the end it was all about getting rid of my six people and the money went West back at the back of the money I've got a principal here yeah so what would you what would you say you've learned from this if you were to if you got the call in a year or two from now to go back out there and let's say you want to put yourself back out there again to go up against these crazy people what would you like what would you do differently I guess if you were to go out there again oh look I've learned a lot and I'm Keen here again I will get my body in a more fittest State than what I thought I was because I thought I spent well for my age I am not very best place you did extremely well in the endurance challenges you hung in there yeah but yeah I did my back the second day and come back because I had mri's my back two bulging discs so broken bones in my feet I had a bit of a tear and a rotor cup when I went in I've come out I've got a

37:26 Pair of my on my bicep wrote a cup in the Superman artist so I'll need surgery on that in a few months time so it's what you what people don't realize is from day two I was in so much pain and that's why you only see me sitting in that Hessian speak that's the only thing that I could sit in if you watched me at in at night time I'd be laying down or when we had to go to Tribal Council sitting on those logs I'd be rocking and I'll be sitting on my hands because this because the pain it was incredible but that's a lot of this monster the one what have I learned is Fitness number one number two more of a social game number three I went to stealth and that's why everybody thought that I couldn't play the game and I did nothing because everything I did was behind the scenes so I shouldn't be more out there but it's my first time like you know but I've learned from all the other guys so you'll see a very different Jerry gameplay if I am ever lucky enough to go back in the game again that's for sure let's

38:47 Get a runner-up said war season and get all the runner-ups out there against some winners I think that would be a lot of fun hey that'd be the bloody Game Wouldn't it yeah get the runner-up tribe versus the winner tribe I want to see that you know because you know guess what you and George may be end up on the same tribe again in the future if that's the case because he was a runner-up as well I don't want to ask you know the final Tribal Council there was a few people Flex question you mentioned what she asked Nina never got a question on the TV show what was a question that she asked that didn't make the cut on the TV show because you spend a bit of time with her on Survivor isolation as well was there you know any moment that there was a bit of a bond credit between you what was that relationship like and what was potentially us there look to answer the question fully can I go back to when I came back from the villains yeah 100 because Nina I picked the whole thing and in that scene that you that you guys seen where I sat down and I had everybody around me and I told them exactly what I thought of them and the hierarchy here I said Nina's swinging in the middle and coming back coming back from the villains oh all's that dirty on Sam I wanted him out that Bloody night so I was going to try to pull a rabbit out of my backside and try to try to get rid of

40:07 Him on a blind side but it but it didn't come off and I wanted Nina involved in that as well so that I didn't know whether I could trust her and I took her over to the hammock and I said I want to have a talk to you and she goes okay and we've actually discussed this last week Nina and I but we're out together and she asked me why did as I sat there and listened to her and spoke to her I couldn't divulge my whole plan to her because I thought I can't trust that I just I just I just don't trust her enough I don't trust enough and a mum was resonating through my mind and all that sort of stuff and I'm going nut not so I cut her from there and the only time we really spoke again was when we were in the compound we did speak and she did she did like sway me if you want about George and the way George did the dirty on me and so yeah I did I did get jet yeah I got dirty on George about that thing bloody bugger because you know we're supposed to share everything like if you want to vote somebody else or you're going to put me in

41:27 A second vote yeah I usually tell me and but this was just a total I had absolutely no idea and so that shocked me a bit and I thought no all right then well I will yeah you've upset me you've burnt your Bridges with me and I've got the numbers here and you will go and but I sat down and thought about it because we're in the compound we didn't have to go and do the challenge and I thought about it and thought about it thought about it and you don't make a permanent decision on a on a yeah on a fleeting moment type thing and then that's when I thought no and I still couldn't see myself working with Simon I still couldn't trust him you know he is it is between Arthur and Martha everybody day so yeah no I need more consistency than that to be able to work with him and so I stayed with George yeah well the question I think that everybody would want me to ask you and if I didn't ask this I know that the fans online are going to come for me is that if Matt won that final immunity Challenge and you had the choice to vote between buffaloes and George would you have stuck with George in that position knowing that
