The Amazing Race 35: Episode 3 Review

1:34 Enough sleep and so now my voice has decided Well you can't speak properly anymore so I need to catch up on the weekend naughty I thought you know for those who don't know Michelle's a teacher I thought she was screaming at the children back at school because they weren't listening the whole week look they're always noisier the first week because they've just had you know the full rain at home and they're just absolutely shocking usually Monday was a shocker Tuesday was a shocker but they've got they've got better by today so we're good now I couldn't deal I couldn't deal with kids if I had like very limited sleep so you know hats off to you but we got through it somehow you know I've got my second week at work done and dusted it's been hectic the last two weeks because I'm learning a new industry so at night time I'm like really tired and I haven't really been catching up on social media I have not done any extra homework naughty when it comes to The Amazing Race so I didn't even know that we were going into a mega league for this episode which was a pleasant surprise for me no do they call it a mega League or a keep on racing like I mean they keep changing the terms well tomato right that's pretty much the same the same thing let's say hello to a few people in the live lovable Nikki up nice and early over in the states watching us saying hello always good to have you here lovable Nikki Jonathan

2:54 Is back in the live as well Jonathan it's great to have you here as well there we go so we've got our first two live audience members there in the chat ready to talk about this episode and it was a great episode I love the 90minut episodes especially when we're going from one country to the next country because we get to see a lot of things that made The Amazing Race great when it first started we get to see them travel we get to see them go to a travel agent to go and try and book these tickets and a lot of things are happening here a lot of leads are changing certain people are more savvy than others and they're able to and deal and get into a better flight what did you think of all of this craziness here in the opening minutes of the episode because I personally loved it obviously it depends on which travel agent you actually get like obviously it's one office but it depended on which desk you went to as to if you were back in the back of the pack if you got a better flight or not it was quite amazing that one guy could only find the 7 55 but then one could find the 140 so when your favorite team was walking in I thought oh God I hope they get that guy at the back yes they Team Pink but they're still alive and kicking and I'm

4:14 On the team pink watch so we'll definitely talk about some of the great stuff they did here in this episode stocks are rising for Team Pink throughout this episode you know I still have my Hope High for them lovable Nikki here says happy the travel agencies are back it's funny that the one person who had the best advice was the one who didn't speak any English like the other guy was like fully engaging with them in English and then the other one was like I'm not going to do any of the pleasantries and talk to you about your day I mean was it a Joe and Ian I keep getting them mixed up that were there the couple let's look at the names here I think they're the couple Joe and Ian yeah I'm right yes I got that one Jo and Ian they were there and it was funny to see the dynamic between them because Joe I think is the one who's really intense and he's like you got to help us now Ian is like trying to ground him a little bit there and even though they were so intense this guy was more than willing to help them and I was sort of looking at it Michelle I thought to myself if I was there and I got into this travel agency you know my sales skills if I ever play Survivor I don't have sales skills but my sales skills on The Amazing Race would come out and I'd be like hey this is your opportunity to Market yourself you're on International TV get me the best flight and that will look really good on you we'll do a quick plug for you at the endend of this and be like you want to meet with Bob whenever you come to Vietnam because

5:34 Or Thailand because he's going to sort you out he's going to give you the best deals the best flights you know so try and like sell it to them that so that they can they're invested in you getting a better flight I feel like but yeah like he found a flight in the middle of the two flights that no one else seemed to know about there was the early flight I think it was at 1:45 p.m the other one was like around 750 or something it was like a 60 six hour difference and then he found one that was like only 15 minutes later than the first flight end up being the best flight to get in any case and as soon as I saw that the flights were so far apart I thought oh God there's going to be a leveler at the destination there is going to be some sort of place that's not open for the people who get there first so then you'll sort of have a Level Playing Field which we sort of did was only 15 minutes between each group of four or five yeah a lot a lot of great things happening here obviously Joe and Garrett very early on in the episode here that's team beard according to a lot of people who are playing the game against them they were quite far down in the pack because of the fanny pack situation in the previous episode losing their fanny pack that put them back but in this episode they ended up making up so much time because when they came to the travel agency they had that quick conversation

6:54 I think with Joe and Ian it seemed like they've got some sort of a Alliance going or trying to help each other as two teams that are at the back of the pack they said go to this guy he'll sort you right and jelan Garett and Joe and Ian they both end up becoming team number one and two because of the fact that they got the quicker flight and it was quite funny to see how annoyed some of the other teams were and Todd and Ashley and stepen Anna Le when they got to the airport because they both got stitched up by the tra agent and it just creates great drama great chaos having the 19in seeing a little bit of the interaction between the teams seeing that you're now willing and dealing and trying to get the best flight actually has consequences and these are things that we missed and plus the fact that we're back in Asia which we didn't get to see for the last couple of Seasons it's just the win for me all around at the moment with amazing R I know just the whole idea of the flight chaos all over again and you know just that breeds so many different issues for production as well as for the cast so yes loving having the flights back well while they're at the airport there was this very funny interaction I found it hilarious I don't know how what you thought about it but you have Robin and Chelsea

8:15 Robin was the girl who used to get bullied I believe as a kid but they are in this conversation with step annaly and a bunch of the teams that are at the back and analie really annoys Robin and I was I wrote down like listen Robin that's a bit of mean girl energy there being so annoyed by analie talking about catching frogs in the dark and she's like I just can't and again I love it because this is the kind of interactions we don't we haven't really seen yet yes usually the show's small shorter so they don't do these little things that we are that we did see some of in the past even though the shows were only an hour we saw more of that in the past season in you know back in the early days but this is why 90 episodes are so good for us I mean where're we're used to see 90minut episodes Australia is just crazy with the 90-minute episode thing so with nearly every show we have so I love that we're seeing these episodes because I'm no longer thinking oh that's over really quickly and I used to think that was Survivor an amazing race after all AV our started that theirs is so short you don't by the time you get into it's over so it sometimes makes you feel like the latest casts that they've had on Survivor an amazing race maybe they don't have the personality that the Australian reality TV stars have but they do it's

9:35 Just we don't get to see it and I think also the format going back to them being at the airports being at these places where they're going to spend a lot of time in between legs really breeds for it's a it's a great breeding ground for these types of interactions to happen where in previous Seasons the last couple of Seasons they were kind of isolated in between leagues like even if you remember interviews with two seasons ago when we had some of them on like Kayla and that they were talking about the fact that they didn't even get to interact with other teams in between legs because they went into isolation for obvious reasons but you know it's great to see those interactions I'm already kind of liking what I'm seeing and Nikki I'm kind of wondering from your end because I know you're a challenge fan similar to myself and we've had some challenges recently or amazing races I should say that went onto the challenge it's definitely lopsided when it comes to it as well because they only put like two Amazing Race players at a SE on a well I guess at one two Amazing Race let me try that again it is Friday evening over here two Amazing Race races at a time on the challenge which I'd love for them to have more amazing races on a season because it's really lopsided in favor of big brother or Survivor or the challenge but who would you from this season recommend lovable Nikki to go and play because me personally I'm loving what I'm seeing from Anna Lee and this was a good episode

10:55 For her I think she could translate really well to a challenge season as a competitor in the future so I'd be interested to know if you are thinking down that same road or if there's other people that you have got your eye on right now if we had the challenge usa3 come up in the future who would you sort of want to see on that and I know Andre you watch a little bit of that as well but another thing that happens here in the early stages Michelle before we move on from I guess the airport itself is that we do get Joselyn and Victor starting in first place a little bit of a backstory here about their daughter that they're playing for trying to show them that they can do it you know and they can do anything that they put their mind to this was a rough episode for them as a whole right yes don't say that rubbish you I say this every time just because you're older do not say just because I'm older doesn't mean I can't do things I'm so tired of that storyline I'm older I'm there for my kids to see that I can do stuff like I know just enough just do stuff because you want to and you're capable and it's nothing to do with age and oh it irks me so much regardless they had a really rough run so bad yeah very

12:15 Very tough one for them this episode and again maybe it's the wakeup call they needed going forward into the game and it's also sometimes good to see how teams do Under Pressure right because it's one thing to run at the Run the front and sort of keep the pace and have those little bits of momentum when it comes to the time differences and things like that when you when you take off but when you're in the back of the pack when the pressure is on how do you deal with that when you have to get no after no when you're doing a specific roadblock or a detour you know how are you going to cope with that and I feel like they kind of floundered a bit they showed weakness here which I don't know I'm not as confident about Joselyn and Victor right now compared to what I was an episode or two ago and yeah it's early days a lot can still happen a lot of lead changes happen throughout this episode and we'll probably talk about those races that are showing some consistency versus the ones that have fallen down the picking order and the ones that have climbed but Andre Lee comes in here with a $5 New Zealand super sticker thank you so much Andrew Lee and says is it 10:30 p.m.

13:19 Yet because he's watching in New Zealand no it is 10 p.m. or just after it's quarter 10 p.m. I did have it up for 10:30 p.m. at first but Michelle said let's get on half an hour earlier so I thought let's do it let's get on and do no has he missed the beginning part I wonder n he's only missed it's only been 13 minutes he has he's near he hasn't really missed anything we just spoke about the airport but you know we're getting into the juicy stuff now Andre you know and Andre will understand Jonathan says the military Brothers could be good for the challenge I do agree physically but we haven't seen them per yet you haven't you do you have older people on the challenge no so they're talking about Liam and Jeremy the younger two because they used to be in the military as well oh yes okay yeah so I think that with them we just haven't se like I'm hoping because obviously this episode would have been a big wakeup call for them as well I'm hoping we're going to see more they just they seem like they've got everything Michelle but they just haven't performed yet under pressure and I don't know if they're not taking the race serious enough and if they're just too relaxed about it but there's something missing there says Anna Lee would be good she would be targeted because of her size lyanna probably would bring drama Lana lyan yes

14:39 Melana the team pink love that M and M yeah Melena would be fun I don't know if she could win but she would definitely bring the drama I do like the competitiveness between Morgan and Lena as well Morgan more so I feel it's the like the competitive one but yeah it would be fun to see if they could get a few more people onto the Challenge from this season of The Amazing Race it's been a theme these days Michelle that whenever somebody plays in the latest season they bring them on I think the oldest two amazing races that they brought on was James warington I pronounce that right and they had J Jamal from the aanimals Jamal God Blast from the Past blast from the past those are the other two old the players but then since then they've brought on quite a few newer players from recent Seasons as well but they do go to Vietnam here and getting into Vietnam the thing that stood out for me really was because I've never been to Vietnam I don't know if you have been there no I haven't yeah it looked chaotic the amount of motorbikes that were out there on the roads the traffic the congestion I'm sure it is humid as hell over there because I've been to some Asian countries and normally the humidity hits you if you're not used to it they have to get on a

15:59 Bus in the middle of the night and very interesting bus so they've just gone from a flight yes into a bus and then they have to sleep on the bus which was interesting to sort of observe yeah I mean it would have been good for the latest team I mean the latest group that were going because they arrive just close apparently to the time that they that the place opens so that would have been good it's the earlier people who then have to spend money on accommodation or something like that or sleep on the side of the road which is not the best you know yeah Andre Lee taking shots here at the challengers saying they need a season where the contestants cannot swim afraid of heights cannot kick a ball bad at puzzles and trivia and no coordination like a lot of challenge contestants that would be interesting to watch the blind leading the blind out there lovable Nikki says no the daughter from the mother and daughter team that was eliminated on Lana so yeah would be fun and Jonathan says well 50% of the country is under 25 so it would be CTIC I thought they said 35 was it 25 or 35 25 wow that is Young yes that is Young I wonder what the reason for that is like if it's got if it's got to do with like the war would have been a long time ago so you'd

17:19 Imagine it's so unusual so unusual that is crazy so it's a very young country obviously up and about but this bus ride it was very interesting to see like even just the cultural thing with Joe and Ian getting to the bus having to take off their shoes to get into the bus Which it's so strange whenever I go back to South Africa Michelle people in South Africa wear shoes in the house and I don't know if it's an Australian thing as well but in New Zealand we were used to I don't know if the Asian influence have got into us there or not like you take your shoes off and leave it at the front by the door when you go into an house and even just that is so foreign to people in South Africa because they're used to walking around on carpet with shoes on yes what we do as well here I have had Asian friends who we take our shoes off when we go into the house and I know it's a big thing over if you see maybe the shops in Thailand or barley often they have especially if you go into a place that does massages and things like that all the shoes are outside and you walk in Barefoot so it's not it's a big thing in some Asian countries it's for me it's become a big thing I've never like in New Zealand it's common like it's just what people do there I don't know if it's because I Liv in Oakland Andre can probably commented this because he lives in New Zealand as well but it's very common when

18:40 You go to someone's house you take your shoes off you leave it at the front door and walk in because you don't want to bring it your dirt into their house walk on their carpets and then they've got to clean it up afterwards so now to me because I lived there for 15 years it feels barbaric when you walk around in your shoes and my family think I'm like the weirdest person for even saying that when I go back to South Africa I'm the odd one out but I'll remember that so now when I go visit new friends here in Australia I'll go dirty their carpets with my shoes and walk around the living room so' be interesting so Ed Le saying it's 5050 yeah so it's 505 on who does it Andre says I worked in was Vietnamese so pronouncing Vietnamese phonetically okay I'm not too sure if I follow just let us know what you meant by that but yeah so we've got here at this point in Vietnam they get to this Dock and this is the great equalizer right Michelle we've seen it so many times back in the past you can get ahead when it comes to flights but at the end of the day the people who plan this out they don't want people to get too far ahead they're going to find ways to prevent that from happening and they get three different time slots here one at 5:45 a.m.

19:56 When the dock opens one at 600 a.m. and one quarter past 6 a.m. and again some teams failed when it came to attention to detail here because there was a 545 a.m time slot available and stepen anal who was in the last group got one of those slots because other people were just missing it which was crazy to me well I think they well they probably assumed like on a lot of the other races the first box has the first time second third but whether it was an accident or whether it was you know supposed to be there the 545 one of them was in another slot so maybe a team did it in the first group and put it in another one maybe production did it maybe it was a mistake I was wondering yeah know I was wondering if production did it if they help one back and they're like I wonder if there's going to be a team who's going to be aware enough because it was a team prior to stepen eny who grabbed one I think it was Todd and Ashley and Ashley's like as soon as she grabbed it she's like oh no there's another one and she already had the later time slot she's had an angry day you know there's things going wrong all over the place for her do you want to get into it Michelle do you want to get into it sounds like you want to talk about it no she said she thought her hair was going to catch on fire at the airport because she was so angry

21:17 And I thought well it wouldn't look that different from your red hair anyway yeah it was good to get Todd's backstory though it's good because it kind of gave us a little bit Todd's another person who could translate to the challenge since he's competitive I think he could do well on there you know his background having played professional basketball in Germany which is pretty impressive it kind of makes us understand why he's so competitive while she's maybe a little bit more relaxed and they say that Opposites Attract and in that case in this case they've been together since the age of 16 so they kind of know when to push and when to leave the other person alone exactly yeah it was fun but I mean massive move here by Steven en massive move because I mean at the end of the day this is going to be the difference I think between them finishing in the back of the pack and winning this leg out right our friendly neighborhood TNT hyp man is in the live here saying The Amazing Race more like the amazing podcasters oh really we appreciate that mcky that's nice yes so m is part of the TNT fam he does our traitors New Zealand content traitors Canada content currently and also probably Michelle in the future if you know I've been trying to get you to come on and do an Australian Survivor podcast with us but you know your schedule normally is

22:37 Too busy during that time of the year if you did one of those with us you would get to meet maky in a podcast because he's one of our co-host for that as well it's just so hard it's the beginning of the school year exactly it starts like literally the first week back at school yeah so it's a really hard time but let's see how it goes this time I need people that listen to this at a later stage or in the live right now to peer pressure Michelle when the Australian Survivor comes back on to say we want Michelle on an Australian Survivor podcast at least one she can do one with us at some point yeah I can do one definitely got to got to get it to commit to one at least but yeah so overall great move here by Sten annaly to get up on the time slots there jumping past a couple of people and this is where things get really messy in my opinion because we go into this challenge that they've got to do this I don't know what you call it like a challenge on the on the amazing R CU it wasn't a detour or a roadblock necessarily yeah just have I missed something what have I missed no we didn't get to see a roadblock we didn't get to see a roadblock this episode no it's just the detour yeah I mean there was also if we're talking about Amazing Race and The Amazing Race Australia first episode they didn't

23:57 Show a roadblock that George did George told me about it and he was quite surprised and I said no they don't they sometimes leave things out if the order of the teams doesn't change oh okay then he was telling me what it was so yeah they do that they do that quite a bit Yeah I think sometimes depending on the flow of how things go or you know if it doesn't help with the story that they're necessarily trying to tell for that leg but we do end up seeing them here go onto this challenge out there where they've got to go on boats they and that River look busy like Michelle I normally try and avoid traffic as much as I can in the city and I was like you can't even get on a boat over there like if you were an Orland and you got on a boat and went from the NorthShore to the city you could avoid traffic but there was almost as much like the same level of mopads you got on the road you had boats out there traveling and it was like is this what day was it I feel like it was like a Saturday at the markets or something because no it's probably like that every day those markets actually there's some markets I know in Thailand are only on like the flour markets are only on a certain day but Food Markets generally are on nearly every day I think it's hard when only two teams could fit on a

25:17 Boat at a time one on one side one on the other I think or is it one at the front one at the back I couldn't tell there was so many boats even the aerial view the Drone camera you know it was really hard to say yeah it was it was very congested and we've got a few things going on here in the life let's just have a quick read Michael says I'm still young and need to go back to school so you can think of it as a school lesson school you can you can basically just bll him for the after hours Michelle if you had to give him some extra you know school lessons after hours oh my goodness yeah Jonathan says first two episodes had no roadblock in Australia non AED yes lovable Nikki says I'm done with the sisters you use the express pass immediately or save it there was no need to use it for that task especially after being there for that long yeah we'll talk about that Jonathan says the express only had one more leg available anyway I guess we can talk about it I mean listen Morgan and Lena they I don't know if it was the wrong move because that challenge seemed like it could have taken a very long time to be out there it was very congested all the teams got together they were having to wait at a couple of them I felt like it was probably the right move but how they performed in the rest of the league after that help

26:37 Things yes exactly and if they would have performed well in the others and people wouldn't say oh it was the wrong move however it's a it's a keep on raising non- elimination Mega leue I'm going to say all things at the same time and so it doesn't really matter I mean but they didn't know that no one and this is we spoke about Mich I was actually thinking about this from last season when they did the mega leaks everybody was aware prior to the leag starting this is a mega Le which made it less interesting because no one raced like it was their life on the line I like the fact that no one knew that this was going to be a mega leag or whatever they want to call it but those two didn't ask a question on the mat and I would have been asking this question whether they did ask the question I don't know I would have had to ask we keep on racing is this still three like if I still had the express pass is this still leg three or do I have to wait another leg is the next one leg four keep on racing is it three and four or is it just three like this is a question that won't come up because they've already used it yeah I feel like I feel like it would have been one big leg really because they haven't they haven't checked in at the pit stop really even though they call it the pit stop it's not the pit stop if you're not stopping you it's the pit move

27:58 They said find him at the pit stop this is the problem with Australian Amazing Race they had a virtual pit stop sorry B what's a virtual pit stop it's not on the computer it's not virtual you're not got head things on you the pit stop was actually there the mount was actually there it's not a virtual pit stop sorry Bo I know you're not watching this but it's not a virtual pit stop that sounds like j z have taken over Australia in Amazing Race because they want to do and I haven't had a chance to complain yet on any group but I will be this I'm waiting for I'm waiting for the Oculus Quest three virtual reality goggles to be released so that we don't have people running The Amazing Race physically anymore they're just running it with the headsets on in the comfort of their own home you know Circle would have to move aside before I've done online can you believe there's been an online Amazing Race So I've done that before and I know how to do that too we can do that watch out watch out every anyone that wants to take Michelle on the first ever virtual Oculus Quest 3 Amazing Race season Michelle's gonna beat you with experience oh my gosh you know what's happening tomorrow Chris there's actually they're starting you know how there's lrgs for Survivor they're starting an

29:18 Amazing race one in Melbourne tomorrow they're doing the initial season I couldn't go down for it because I've just got a lot on with AA doing see but they're actually doing one tomorrow I'm hoping I can get in next season and that'll be fun yeah that sounds like it would be a lot of fun to do and let me know when whenever you know that's well I guess it's probably going to be on YouTube they'll have it on YouTube for people to follow they will they'll probably film it and put on YouTube like they did with Survivor now that I'm in Melbourne who knows maybe you and I can go do the next one well if you're out tomorrow and you see crazy people running around that's what they're doing fair enough I would have just thought it's some AFL supporters running around but that was like last weekend wasn't it AFL yeah getting back to the race here who impressed you and who fell short of your expectations in this section because for me personally yeah go ahead I was so impressed but we're not up to that challenge yet we're not up to the no I'm talking about the docks so the challenge with the boats doing the doing all the fruits having to drop off the fruits at the different vendors I love the husband and wife team with a who said this is how we tidy up the kids playroom or the toys or something and they're just pegging the fruit at each other and I thought that is the best thing ever yes

30:38 Just throwing the toys across the room yeah to put them away so they had Ashley yeah they've got experience that was cool and then the team that sort of I guess there's again I don't feel like Rob and Cory just being good at everything like they're not impressing me they're just like setting the standard and keeping to it Steven andley did well julan Garrett did pretty well getting through there you're probably right Todd and Ashley solid performance from them because they were at the back of the pack and they seemed to get through that challenge really quickly but then the team two teams that really shocked me probably the one that deserves a little bit of criticism here is Joe and Ian because again they just seem to be scatterbrained sometimes out there because they completely left their clue or a third of their clue at one of the stations and had to try and go back to get it like I mean ridic because what have you done your challenge for you do every challenge to get something yeah why would you do the challenge and then leave I mean sorry stupid stupidity if Michelle if you and I were on this challenge together and you were the one responsible for getting it because you were the one that I threw these fruits to I would throw you overboard afterwards I'd be like you swim back to shore I would overboard I'm like you're not you're not respons responsible for any

31:58 Clue getting in the future like we're putting you at the least risk it just wouldn't happen and if you throw me overboard I'm gonna have to do the safety jump so my head doesn't go in that water yeah I'd be so annoyed with you if you did not get that clue and I'd be like you're not in any position of power where you need to do that in the future so whoever was the one I think it was Joe actually it might have been Ian they look so similar as well I'm not was closest but I would not put that person there as well now the other team that really struggled on this challenge was Greg and joh they were Flying high in the previous episodes I think they were pretty consistent they had a pretty rough episode here because it's not really their fault but their boat driver was horrible didn't want to go in everything was too difficult they lost a little bit of patience with him as well which probably didn't help they were they were having a tough time out there as well Michelle yeah they were I don't know they just they didn't get it together yeah I mean it's hard when your transport isn't there yeah sometimes luck can count against you and it was you know was sort of a kiss of death as they got into the boat when they were like you're going to be our best mate moving forward because you're going to be the one that's and I was like hm that's never a good thing when production goes out of their

33:18 Way to show that bit of dialogue it's probably going to blow back on them at some stage exctly and Le that's not until tomorrow so you're safe going to be doing like I'll I actually have to go and rewatch it that's the only episode normally these days I haven't got time to even watch the episodes twice but I watched Survivor last night because I just wanted to have something to relax to before I went to bed so I've got a wait a minute you can't relax and write notes at the same time there's no I didn't write notes I didn't write notes so normally I do normally I do but I didn't this time I was like I'm just going to sit back luxury of just watching something and not writing notes but now you're stressed because you have to write notes and watch it again when we get off H yeah but I've got the M I know the main points for it in any case lovable Nikki reacting to Michelle going overboard Jonathan and gray says Jonathan graay says it's almost as bad as leaving your BS behind twice yes Jonathan yes he's referring to Aussie race there right I and you see that's the I probably should have watched Aussie race last night cuz I haven't caught up on that at all I haven't had time to watch it but I will I will at some point you know we'll talk about that on are we changing to Sunday or Monday I
