0:14 [Music] [Music] p [Music] [Music] welcome back to the nuli tech Channel on YouTube where we've got the te takes for you on The Amazing Race 35 episode 4 I'm your host Chris and for the very first time we've got this young fell over here who's making his debut on the Challen CH Channel Logan the Tas storian I hope I'm pronouncing that right Logan how are you I'm doing all right good evening I'm not used to doing I'm not used to doing a live podcast recordings it's been it's probably been about eight or nine years since probably done live video podcast so this is it's quite it's like taking it back old school for me

1:35 Yeah and also doing it live at 2:00 a.m. in the morning I know this is usual for you said you're on your break at the moment teaching yeah so teaching English yeah I teach Chinese and Korean students online so on the weekends my shifts are usually between 5 o'clock at night until about 7 in the morning in my time zone or 7:30 sometimes so this is usually that twoh hour gap or so where I have nothing to do and no one else in my time zone is awake so yeah anything to fill that time so this worked out really well there's been a couple times lately where I've logged on where I happen to log on to YouTube and you and Michelle are streaming a recap I'm thinking well what else is there to watch at 2:30 in the morning so by having you on the podcast we lose half of our audience at this time at of the morning is this like the only one that we do at a time Z that doesn't really suit the American audience and this is an American show but because you know I'm so grateful that Michelle is willing to do this with me I'm always willing to do the live at a time that works for her and you know having sort of met Michelle having been able to do the podcast with her has sort of introduced me to you because you're the previous co-host or host that used to do a lot of The Amazing Race sort of podcasts with Michelle right yeah so yeah we started

2:55 RTV Warriors back in December of 2013 that was when we recorded our very first podcast it was me Michelle Michael harstone and another Malaysian fellow named Eman and we were recapping the season 23 finale of the American version so we're coming up to our 10-year anniversary which is a bit surreal and after season 32 of the American version Michael made the decision to no longer do recap podcasts for Amazing Race we do the occasional historian season where it's all pre-recorded and I think we' season three of the American version and season two of the Australian version for historical Seasons but in terms of recapping Seasons that are current we stopped doing that at the end of season 32 and yeah then prior to doing that first podcast for our TV Warriors how I met Michelle was that she played in season five of my Online survivor org series that I hosted when I was in university back in the day there you go well you're kind of like the Tom Brady of podcast you said you were going to retire but now you're here you're back you're back for one more season we're getting you back to talk about the Amazing Race yeah I'm try yeah guest Co-host if anybody is away for a week I'll just I can temporarily fill in that

4:15 Spot I essentially have like the nor McDonald talk show roll where I just guest Phill where whenever a talk show host is in desperate need of a guest he we appreciate it at one point I think we're going to have to get you and Michelle on the same podcast just for Nostalgia alone you to have you both have you both on the same podcast and Michelle normally makes me look a lot better because of her knowledge of The Amazing Race I've watched it from the first season but Survivor is the thing that really sort of ignited reality TV for me and then obviously I've watched The Amazing Race Survivor big brother we spoke a little bit about that before we went live not so much big brother in recent seasons and the challenge is just taking over a lot of my passion because I feel like they're doing so many things right and its current state but I'm sort of new to the challenge so you would see on this channel we cover all of that so trying to keep all the information in my head and be very good at remembering who went fourth in season you know 30 I couldn't tell you like you know but apparently you're Dem man for that you know that's why you've got the title Toran apparently yeah that was a that was just a self assigned title because there's always debate like who is the most knowledgeable about Survivor in the community or Amazing Race and in my opinion the person who probably knows the most information about these shows is probably somebody who doesn't even engage

5:35 On social media because all of that time they invest into G all into all that knowledge would be disrupted by engaging on social media so it's probably somebody that nobody even knows I can guarantee you would probably be the most knowledgeable and could whip anybody at a Jeopardy game of reality TV I agree with you 100% but I have to ask you as someone that you know gave yourself that title as someone who's very passionate about the Amazing Race how is the current season sort of stacking up for you compared to the Amazing Race is it difficult because you know we've watched the for 35 Seasons we remember the old school Seasons we all have our favorite seasons is it difficult these new seasons now to stack up against it and how do you feel about the 90minut episodes like has it helped yeah the difficulty is tough to assess because I've of course with the recap podcast Battle Royale I'm listening to a feedback from 28 different podcasts that are covering the Amazing Race this year and I've heard a lot of it do I get bonus points because you're on this one oh yeah because I'm on it so yeah first place this week for sure and then the I think the reality guys want me to fill in sometime in the near future fair enough yeah it's all these Bojack Horsemen Mr Peanut Butter Esa crossover episodes yeah sorry for derailing your thought process

6:55 There but you were sort of saying listening to all these different podcasts when it comes to compar comping this season versus the old school Seasons it's quite hard for you for oh in terms of like the difficulty of the tasks you're talking about so yeah just there a whole like tasks entertainment the 90minut episodes like where do you where do you sort of where do you sit on the season as a whole I guess yeah it's tough because I mean we're only four weeks in so it's still a little bit a little bit early especially when they're trying to they're trying to mimic the feel of the older Seasons but on a leaner budget and a much shorter filming schedule because in the first season back in the 2001 because the very first season of Survivor had a 39 Day filming schedule The Apprentice filmed for 39 days the very first season of Amazing Race filmed for 39 days the American version of the mole filmed for 39 days that was like everyone did 39 days and then as Bud budgets decreased the Mason race changed to has2 shows2 days that's what Phil kogan's been advertising on Twitter since 200 n right so it's a bit tougher to completely mimic that old school feel when you're doing it on a fraction of the budget and half the time that they used to have back in the day so it definitely presents some challenges there to completely replicate

8:15 That environment yeah and in terms of like tasks being difficult yeah I was thinking about this especially the past week or so because a lot of people online were talking about it and the thing is that with the 90minut episodes we're still getting just roadblock or detour or not a roadblock and just a detour and an active route info so you have two tasks that are filling the 90 minutes so to us as the viewer we're seeing two tasks fill a 90 minute 90 minutes of footage so it seems longer to us compared to say if it's a one-h hour episode where they squeeze in two or three tasks normally in the American version where we only get a few minutes for each task so we think oh that task went by so quickly but that's because we're seeing a lot less footage so it's tough to assess if there's really that spike in difficulty for instance the roadblock at the end of this episode a lot of people finish the roadblock within 5 to 10 minutes meanwhile I go on Reddit and I see people say oh that's the toughest roblock they've had in a long time and there's been feedback where half the teams did it in five minutes yeah it's the I guess it's hard to assess with some of these tasks and the biggest difficulty I found at times within this episode was it was hard to sort of assess where

9:36 Different people were at different times within even doing The Detour you know like it was hard to know where people were sitting in relation to others but that's always been an issue for The Amazing Race and I do think that you know you bring up a valid point that with the shorter episodes it feels quicker but with the longer episodes they didn't really add much in regards to Team Dynamics there isn't a lot of spice between different teams that maybe trying to sabotage each other or don't like each other so what are they going to do they're going to add more to the challenges because that's probably going to be the most interesting part of the episode because these personalities aren't clashing even though I will say there is a potential for a bit of spice between Robin Chelsea and Steven Anna Le which I'm enjoying I'm enjoying seeing a little bit of this because a couple of episodes ago we saw Robin say she doesn't like Anna and now Anna is onto it because Chelsea didn't help her in this last episode are you loving seeing a little bit of this do you miss having teams that maybe don't get along because I feel like CBS have been playing it pretty safe and recent seasons for a lot of the shows right yeah because it adds if you have tension there it certainly adds that narrative the fan the biggest the most popular season of all time for the American version is of course season five and that probably had the most tension maybe the only argument I would hear is maybe season

10:56 20 of the of the American version having more ention than season five so that naturally just builds a natural storyline that you can play into right there and that's been a big fan complaint the past couple seasons is that season Seasons 32 33 and 34 very minimal drama if there was any and that contributes after the fact to an unmemorable season I was going through a chat on Discord and there were people saying I couldn't even tell you half the teams that were on season 34 just because there wasn't there wasn't like a driving narrative that the audience could follow it was more everything was very L linear so it's just a happened task a happened task B pit stop and rinse and repeat especially with the limited travel scope as well so yeah so that's interest yeah it'll be interesting to see where the tension goes and who knew that the team that involved bullying as their backstory would be the potential villains for this season who yeah especially since one of them was bullied and now yeah again I mean this person yeah and this person's gone through a lot of stuff as well so I'm like there's a couple of episodes ago was like that's kind of bully Behavior but I'm thinking to myself they've gone through hell in their personal life so it almost makes you want to go a

12:16 Little bit lighter on it and we both have not been on the race we don't understand the pressure the stress that comes with that and how that will potentially take you out of your comfort zone just before we continue on with that I want to say hello to a few people here in the live Andre Lee is in the live asking if I've R my de DM this week I haven't Andre I apologize I will read it soon it's been a really busy week at work so I've just started a new job learning not only not learning not only learning my own job but also the people that are reporting through to me I've got to learn their job at the same time as well so that's stressful and a lot of things to take on at the moment so I will read it through the weekend when I have some time a promise and then Jonathan gray here says evening boys driving now confessional dude y so Jonathan will be back soon with us and then we've got Michelle also in the live saying hey you guys on the train to the mountains to help film season two of Sydney Survivor one take I was not happy with the elimination carry on not happy with the elimination because Michelle is a big fan of Joselyn and Victor and you've also had the opportunity to communicate with them a little bit right so we may have some a lot yes a lot since probably even preseason yeah we're mainly with I think with Victor it's been I've been chatting a lot with Victor almost daily because of course I spent I've spent a lot of time in Asia the

13:36 Past four years my time is pretty much split half and half between here in BC and then going to Southeast Asia or East Asia every year so we talked a lot about a lot a lot about that Victor has also watched the foreign versions of The Amazing Race so he's seen Amazing Race Asia and China rush so we had some conversations about that because I've I met the host of a aming race Asia in person when I was in Singapore a few years ago and I've met some of the aming race Asia contestants in the Philippines as well as in Singapore too yeah a it must hurt so much more when you when you know someone and you've you know you know the level of fandom that is there with Victor playing this you know seeing him not succeed here but he had the perfect start they had the perfect start to the season they won a couple of legs right off the bat Yeah well yeah they still got to do this show so it's funny because I'm always notorious for saying n whoever wherever anybody finishes whether it be Survivor Amazing Race the mole I just don't get really too invested in that I feel like I'm always watching these shows as a producer rather than as a as a fan I think I have that I have a lot more a different perspective on that

14:57 So when they got when they got eliminated sure I was probably talking to Victor more than anybody else in the cast but it was I didn't they still got to do four rounds which is four rounds more than thousands of people who have applied they've certainly got some unique stats and some unique achievements they won a couple prizes so even though it was only four rounds that's a lot of people would that I have personally met at different fan events over the years that different reality TV events you have no idea how much they would sacrifice to be on these shows they would they would probably cut off their arm to be on some of these shows so yeah I mean I co well my co-host Michelle your previous co-host she would love to be on the show I don't think she would love to be out in one of the first three spots because I know she's very competitive but I know just having the opportunity in the first place is such a great privilege and you know they had that opportunity especially doing it in the US where competition is fierce to get onto these shows cuz I'm sure they don't just pull from people who directly apply for The Amazing Race they're probably looking at people also applying for Big Brother people who are applying for Survivor they've got one big talent pool that they're competing with right to just get on the show yeah it actually reminds me of a story from a brief story from when I went to Hearts of reality last year so I went to

16:17 The Mason race 34 finale in Miami I flew there and then hearts of reality the big charity event for Give Kids the World they had that two day two days after The Amazing Race finale so went on so I hopped on the bus from Miami to Orlando for it and Alex from season 27 of Amazing Race and now he's more famous for being on Naked and Afraid so when I went there were a bunch of season 32 contestants who listen to The Who listen to my podcast during that season and know me really well so I was talking to them in line and I befriended two other two women who were who were local in Florida so they were ahead of me in line while I was catching up with kayn and Haley and will and James and they went ahead and talked to Alex and then a little bit later they came up to me and said oh all these you know bunch of these contestants actually know you and they were telling me that Al when they were talking with Alex that Alex told them that back when Alex was on The Amazing Race he was the second team out and there's a lot of contestants the super fans who go on who get really crushed if they go early and Alex and Adam were definitely big fans of The Amazing Race so when Alex was eliminated early I don't even remember doing this would have been back in Fall of 2015 but apparently I went out of my way to private message him on Facebook I guess

17:37 And I said hey you know hang your hang your head high don't feel ashamed about going after two legs you still there you're I've used you for a couple of different memes as jokes you know just you still had a fun time I think yeah because I just don't get the idea of contestants being really hard on themselves if they don't perform well on these shows it's okay if you don't do well it's okay if you suck it's not the if there's hundreds of contestants somebody has to really suck in a season so yeah who yeah it's a good way to look at it and I think you know there's so like I know we haven't even gotten into the episode yet but it's a fascinating conversation because I can relate to a lot of what you're saying even in the sense like from a Survivor perspective like I've said I've been the biggest Survivor fan since it ever started and you know at one point I probably would have been able to say was the Survivor story in but I'm definitely not anymore because I've got too many shows and too much things and probably spend too much time on social media as well to have all that information retained but the one thing that changed for me when I started podcasting is I started looking at it as a show I started looking at it very much similar to what you said especially because I main host a lot of the shows I now look at it well is this entertaining maybe I don't like a character but now I do like that character because the producers did a good thing and casting that person to get a certain emotion

18:57 Out of me and then I started doing exit press with people from Survivor South Africa and Australian Survivor and things like that where you get to meet the contestants and you actually realize that so many of them are just great human beings they were casted for a reason they're bubbling on screen they're easy to talk to they Bol Report with you very quickly because that's what also got them casted on the show and you realize that if you're lucky enough to get on there that you could very well be one of them that end up going early there's just such a thin margin between success and failure and you know this and especially on a show like The Amazing Race where just getting on the wrong cab at the wrong time or a burst Tire or a mechanical failure or something could send you home you know or a challenge like what we just saw now with you know it becoming a bit of a crapshoot yes there was attention to detail required to finish this last challenge to get or the roadblock to get to the pit stop but I mean the margins are thin right yeah like there's I was I've tried to watch every eggs interview that Victor and Joselyn did and they also did additional they recapped with the racers recap last week for episode three and they also did a podcast with Todd and Ashley as well because now six out of the 13 teams that their own recap podcast including Victor and josn did their own podcast and what's funny is when I was talking to Victor

20:17 I said you need to have teams who go home early to do their own recap podcast because now I have the stats on teams who have done their own podcast for past Seasons when they are active contestants and where they end up finishing during the season so for instance Derrick and CLA did their own recap podcast for season 34 Kim and Penn did their own recap podcast for season 33 will and James did their own recap podcast for season 32 and they all eventually won and I think the lowest placing team that did their own podcast finished in fifth place out of the past three seasons so I said you have to convince the lowerplace teams to do their own podcast so Victor said yeah maybe I'll ask some people and then Victor and josn did their own recap podcast starting a couple weeks ago and started going on Racers recap and toght and Ashley I'm thinking well Victor and joclyn really played that well that joke was definitely played on me they go they start their own recap podcast knowing they went home early just to throw everyone off because now six teams out of the 13 of their own recap podcasts I'm thinking hm are they just going to keep throwing people off by making every team do their own recap podcast do now probably just because I threw that out there yeah let's have a quick look here and more of the comments coming in Sandy saying hey guys I haven't watch the episode but already know the team eliminated

21:38 So sad and then also says The Amazing Race Asia more like The Amazing Race East and Southeast Asia and then also says can I also team can also be twist screwed like Ethan and Jenna in season 19 yep double elimination twist yeah a couple franchises have used that yeah and Andro says that he been watching jel and Garrett's podcast as well so there is you so I'm very famous for this Logan I get very I get tunnel vision when I do a podcast like I used to consume a lot more podcasts before I started doing my own one but I've got that opinion that especially for me as a as a host of the show that kind of have to direct the flow of the podcast that if I do go and listen to other people's content it's going to be stuck in my head and I'm going to probably go in a Direction that's not authentically how I want to do the podcast so because of that I actually don't listen to a lot of these things yeah because I feel like it will have an influence I really do feel like it would but I don't mind it if there's someone that comes into the show like for instance on the challenge Kahuna my co-host he listens to a lot of challenge podcasts and sometimes we'll bring nuggets into it but he doesn't direct the flow of the chat so I think that in that regard it still stays authentically the nullify take but he can add a little bit of spice here and there whenever it's required on the show but let's talk a little bit about the episode as a whole since we're about 22 minutes in and it's been fascinating to talk to you about the wider challenge what got you into it and

22:58 Sort of how what your feelings are in regards to the show at this point you know this was too fascinating leg because we did get the mega Leake they didn't call it the mega Leake it's just continue racing it's the same thing tomato yeah two different legs it was just it's a CBS marketing Ploy it's a cool hook if you say there are no non-elimination legs this season except episode three but don't count that as a non-elimination leg Yeah it's just one Mega leg or super leg or just keep racing basically as they said in this episode but we saw a lot of different teams move up and down during this time you know Steve and Anna Le they came really from nowhere and even when they were at the airport when we started seeing this friction between Rob and Chelsea step eny in no way shape or form that I think that by the end of this massive leag we would have them as teams one and two so that's some spicy storyline storytelling that is starting to come together I'm hoping we get a pay off for that I like I like how there's always this is the second time in the American version that an all female team of moms is feuding with a father daughter team because that also happened in season five and the feud also came out of nowhere there it's a personality clash and I mean it's not it's not by mistake either you know that they're doing their psychometric tests and you know the personality tests on different people and if they do

24:18 It right they'll get at least one or two people in there that maybe will Clash if they're actually out there playing the game but clearly it's a personality thing they come and again I'm not American so I don't know how much of a beef there is when you come from different states and you hear someone with an accent from a specific State maybe some states annoy you a little bit more than others yeah Tennessee versus Iowa they just do not get along for whatever reason is this where they're from no I just made that up as just pick two random States out of the Hat yeah Wyoming and Alabama they just you bring two you bring a Wyoming in and an alabaman oh ho oil it's on it's on unless they're like randomly backpacking in the middle of Asia and they come across each other and that's the only other American there I'm sure they'll get along but not if they're traveling within the states there's some real beef over there you know between these two states you heard it your first hot take the nullified take the TNT take of the episode Tennessee and I was it Wyoming don't like but yeah what a what a great way to start this you know with Steven annaly having had barely any sleep apparently about two hours of sleep because they were lucky enough to also jump you know forward and was able to get that early sort of ticket into the docks when they were in the previous episode so they're running on pure adrenaline at this stage and I've got

25:38 A lot of respect for Steve he's doing well for an older guy like how does he sort of Stack Up in your estimation at this stage compared to other older sort of contestants that we've had because sometimes you know older gentlemen or women they can struggle to keep up with the young kids out there but he's doing well yeah they rarely cast anybody over the age of 50 on The Amazing Race any anymore I think the last older team we had was Bill and Kathy from season 19 and then after that the age really drops so this is the first season where I've noticed to jump in people who are over the age of 40 over the over the age of 40 is considered ancient on the American version of Amazing Race and I thought it aside from looking like a tomato from the heat stroke in southern Vietnam he's handling himself quite well I was waiting I was waiting for him to pass out at any moment but he really hung in there as a like a trooper I think he made the right decision also not going for the physical detour and getting an opportunity to catch a BRI because you know a lot of people probably won't know this and I just want to acknowledge this here from Andre he's saying kiwis versus South Africans now I'm a South African kiwi is a new zealanders and we've got a very famous rugby Feud which is playing out right now both newal is yeah springbock versus the other one All Blacks against the All Blacks so I'm very I'm very impr impressed by that so both South Africa

26:59 And the All Blacks are playing in different semi-finals of the World Cup has anybody pulled any grass pulled any grass yeah like the blade there is a clip I saw when these two teams played I think where a player pulls out Blades of grass to when they were doing the haaka and then guy then they picked the guy up and pitchforked him into the into the pitch at the start of the match no I haven't seen I haven't seen any of that happening but it's all on at this stage between those two teams cuz they're both in the running to win the World Cup and they're both trying to chase the first become the first team to win it four times so the most successful teams in the history of Ruby World Cup so there's some serious beef happening there loveable Nicki saying notification still letting you down well you're here now and to be honest we have been talking about a lot that doesn't necessarily relate to the recap so you're still here for some good juicy tidbits as well we'll talk about those mattresses very soon but yeah so very good work here from Steve keeping up obviously they've got to get their cab right I don't want to talk about you know obviously being in Vietnam I'm assuming you've traveled through Vietnam as well were you aware that yeah so you were you aware that they were the second biggest coffee producers in the world because that came as news to me second biggest coffee producer no I didn't I did not know that granted I don't really drink coffee because they what's famous in Vietnam is the egg the egg coffee I remember that when I was in Hanoi they did a

28:19 Lot of egg coffee tours so I knew that about Vietnamese coffee but I did not make the jump to look at coffee production ranking the last time I had coffee was at the season 34 finale we were in the hotel lobby the day after the finale it was me the admin for reality fan forum and then the parents of some of the teams so dererk and cl Derek's parents were in the lobby and Derek's father kept wanting me to kept offering me coffee so I politely said no I can't drink coffee the first two times and then the third time like H I feel like I'm going to be rude if I say no a third time so I did and then I went sightseeing around everyone checked out that morning I went sightseeing around South Beach and then I took a bus from there to Orlando and the bus didn't get into until like midnight and then I didn't check into my hotel until about 2 or three in the morning so it was a very long day that day and the whole bus ride when I should have been exhausted because of that coffee I was just like this like the whole bus ride sitting in the passenger seat and I couldn't fall asleep till 3:00 a.m.

29:26 I was just wide aake and it affects us all differently it affects us all differently like I could have a cup of coffee and go to bed straight afterwards and it doesn't like I live of it if you did a random blood test on me it would be like 90% coffee in my bloodstream like you know so you're like girls listen I can forgive you I could forgive you for not drinking coffee but you know if you also don't listen to music while you drive then I'm starting to worry about you know like you got to at least have one of the two either listen to music while you drive or drink coffee because if you don't do both are you human like or you know are you a plant from out of space that have been put here to talk about the Amazing Race well luckily I don't have a driver's license so I get to do a non-applicable answer in regards to music while driving no so I mean I found it quite interesting that was the case I didn't know that about Vietnam and it was a bit of a random fact as well I totally related to I think it was Jon and when they got there and they were like you know we'd love to just have some of this coffee but they were in the middle of the race and they had to keep going at that Point but they pretty much go straight into the detour quite early on in this episode here as well and they get two different options that they can choose from so one is stand and one is deliver stand is going to be the one that's more based on attention to detail where they have to replicate the way that the fish vendor

30:46 Has or the marketplace have got their fish sort of in these different buckets and then deliver being the physical one where you just have to carry something through it I had my fear when I first saw the truck I didn't hear four mattresses being delivered I thought they had to do the whole truck which would have been that would have killed them for sure but if youman City I was going to say if you were out there and sort of knowing what it's like navigating and moving around in that City what would you have selected what would you gra towards as somebody who's gone through who spent a few days in hoian city I would not be lugging four separate 66 pound mattresses in because they checked the pit startart for Stephen analy was at 8:56 a.m. and then this leg I know finished right around noon so probably this specific mattress task is probably about 9:30 or 10 o'clock in the morning so in Hoi outside of hoian city that Sun's going to be beating and for people who are watching this and don't grasp the nature of the humidity there I've been to about 63 countries now and there are three cities that I have in the eyeball sweat Club where after a few minutes of being outside I can feel sweat in my eyeballs one would be hoian City one would be Singapore and the other would be Santa Martin Columbia those are the three most

32:06 Hot and humid places I've ever been so if you can take that into account lugging four 66 pound mattresses at 10 or 11 o'clock in the morning and just outside of hoim City yeah outside is not going to be a pleasant experience yeah so I would choose fish yeah it's yeah I get it I'm with you on that I mean I've not traveled to I guess now because I'm so close to places like Thailand and Bley and things like that is kind of high up on my on my radar to travel to next you know Malaysia a little bit and that so I'll probably get to experience more of that I've been in Singapore though very briefly just for like a long weekend I went to Singapore and I've been to Japan and Japan is also pretty hum depending on what time of year you go there as well I was struggling over there quite a bit so I have a little bit of a feeling I don't deal with humid like so from South Africa we get dry heat that's what we have we don't experience humidity like that so knowing what that feels like I probably would have felt like Joe and Ian who both said you know normally like we feel like we do good in the physical stuff but we get to train in the comfort of our own home under air conditioning it's a very different game when you're out there and you're having to perform and I think that sometimes the dehydration will hit you without you knowing so I'm surprised not I was waiting

33:26 For one of the teams to pass out doing that challenge yeah because that's tradition on the American version of Amazing Race when they were there for season 29 Floyd matically evacuated due to dehydration and Joey fainted at the pit stop there so it's a yeah it's tradition for the Vietnam likes for I was just waiting for somebody to faint you somebody has to carry that torch and I think that's one of the reasons why both because both legs the first boat from the previous episode was the 5:45 a.m. boat and the second pit stop all wrapped up at around noon or 1M for this week's episode so that means their filming schedule was just from about 6:00 a. until 12 o'clock so only six hours they made teams race for two legs total so I think production made sure that these were two very short legs just as a precaution to prevent any further Americans fainting on The Amazing Race in Vietnam ESP they don't want to be embarrassed out there they don't want to be embarrassed out there is what you're saying you know they want the Americans to be struggling while they're out there and not used to the weather I think all of us would have struggled regardless I want to bring up a couple of comments here lebi serunai says I thought I'm the only one who don't get the notifications Sandy says also they filmed this where there is a heat wave

34:46 In Mainland sea region and India so there's going to be so that's going to be interesting okay so a heat wave in M Mainland sea region in India so that's obviously an upcoming leag that we may see some more struggles there as well Andre says stand all the way no pivoting yeah the Chandler the Ross Geller reference there for by Todd in the episode right lovable Nikki says I didn't understand why all the mattress teams didn't leave their packs like Liam and yeremy did in the hotel room I think there must be just a little bit of fear right like we're in a foreign country we don't want to leave our packs anywhere because what if somebody steals it you don't want to do that in a third world country no you do not want to Vietnam I would say I could say this I would not leave my bags in South Africa a lot of people would see as a third world and it probably is because of the government and Miss management and those kind of things but there's certain countries you just don't want to do it and yeah they somebody tried to rob me in South Africa when I was in Cape Town they reached into my pockets trying to grab whatever they could so yeah if you if you go to South Africa without knowing local people that can tell you where you should be walking and even with knowing local people you still have that chance of it happening I can't compare where they're in Vietnam and what it's like in Vietnam I mean I it's appar oranges right but I know for South Africa definitely it's if you go to I think that's the South

36:06 African in me like if I go to countries that I don't know I'm always cautious I'm very cautious yeah I take all the all the precautions right I remember even being in Johannesburg staying at a hostel and all the signs around the hostel said in the restaurant District the restaurants were just like a 5 minute walk away and there were signs all around the hostel that said do not go out to the restaurant unless you're a group of six or more people and I was thinking how do they come up with six why not five why not four why not three why six so that put things in perspective pretty quickly when I was there yep yeah Andre says P pivot Perot dang I was waiting for someone to scream this out loud Andre Le say can be a pain in relocating matresses a normal environment so new location with heat and humidity no way yeah I did find it funny well you know a little bit on Todd and Ashley talking about I think they said they moved times in 10 years or something like that and it was a lot well coming from someone who in my time I've lived in what four five different countries I've lived in so many like I was looking at it and thought okay maybe for normal people that's a lot but I've probably moved double that amount in that time but I still hate moving like just even get oh getting things up to into this apartment that I'm currently at like that was a slug Fe in its own so and it's stressful enough when you can do it in your own time not in the middle of a race when you're doing it like this in Vietnam

37:27 Yeah and the staircase did you see that staircase that they that's so damn awkward yeah so hats off to the production team who checked out the location and decided on it because they did it right it was it was hilarious seeing them try and get up there and also seeing teams trying to get past each other when the other teams going up because they were kind of keeping each other from being able to go up and down yeah it was hats off to the production team and helmets off for the poor Vietnamese motorcyclist passing by Joe and Ian on the mattresses yeah 100% how much of a beast is Ashley though like I mean she ends up potentially breaking her finger I don't know if there's if she's broken her finger if that's going to come back Todd has no mercy for her says I've broken my finger plenty of times just keep moving you know but she kind of got on with it I've got so much respect for her yeah I'm curious if that will be the legit diagnosis they haven't uploaded their episode 4 recap onto YouTube but I didn't have a chance to message her if she if it was act if it was legitimate broken finger from Vietnamese mattresses the last I love both of them like I love both of them I just want to say like some of the moments in between like even when Ashley finished that challenge and she was looking at the person who's the person who's got a judge if they had their four mattresses up there and she's like coming for the hug and she's like no worry I'm just joking while she's like drenched and sweat I just love those little Moments Like

38:48 H save the hug for 100% cuz he can't he can't back out of it he's the one to put he's ran away before if you've seen season 11 after they did a charcoal task in Tanzania Oswell and Danny tried to hug Phil and it's just Phil saying no you're not going to hug me and it was like a freaking Scooby-Doo cartoon of going through the doors just dodging the hug yeah loveable says I didn't think of that I was thinking it was safe and roped off in a sense so that the locals would be safe yeah I'm curious of Herman because they have the there's the infamous security guard for Amazing Race Herman who's always involved over the years so he's you don't mess with Herman he's this big dude I think he grew up in the in the I could I'm not 100% sure but I think he was from the former Yugoslavia just no one messes with Herman I guess when he's out on the streets he's the he's the protector for the production crew and the teams during filming so I'm curious if Herman had his had a presence at the at the West Weston Hotel there for this SL yeah Andre Lee I still haven't watched The Amazing Race Australia because I haven't had time but I've seen the big promo where he tells his sister to just get over it at this point I'm actually because I'm not even in social media I don't know how I haven't been spoiled on anything for the Amazing Race Australia as of yet I'm assuming

40:08 You're watching it no I don't do Bo Ryan Seasons fair enough fair enough he's not for every he's not everybody's cup of tea I'll say that much because yeah I think I think it's a very Australian humor specific in the way that he sort of hosts the show and also because I've seen Bo through his rugby league career and do Bono's best which was his big show prior to that I kind of get his personality and how he is but's he's a lot more actively involved as a host compared to others right yeah like I think somebody was telling me that I ended up watching this is the only real I watched season four of Amazing Race austral and I said yeah I think this is where I'm going to bail out and the only episode I've seen since then was the episode of bow and quarantine and somebody who I know who does all of the he writes up the challenge guides for every major reality TV franchise where he has it he has every challenge episode by episode for amazing rign Survivor and the mole for every International Version and he's from Australia he lives in he lives in Melbourne and then he was saying yeah they cut to he kind of hate watches I think he still hate watches the current amazing I couldn't do that to myself I for Amazing Race Australia and he was saying yeah when Bo Ryan is in he gets a

41:28 Lot of footage during that's when was it Scott Tweedle is that the guy's name who replaced B Ryan temporarily during season six to be honest with you I've seen one of The Amazing Race Australian Seasons that Bo Ryan hosted and I haven't been up toate with it I find it hard to get into the other Amazing Race Seasons personally myself as well I triy to watch Canada couldn't do it oh watch the first four seasons of Amazing Race Canada then do a dead stop and then it'll that's the yeah I don't know which one I don't know which one I watched I feel like it might be season five I feel like might be the one that I got into that was the that was the last Amazing Race can the season that we podcasted our TV Warriors because it was that bad and then it's only gotten worse since then so I treat it as a four season series after season 4 just dead stop watch it and you'll have a pleasant Amazing Race Canada experience s Sandy says that George himself spoiled him who was on the show I don't even know if I should bring that up I don't think Channel 10 watches the podcast so we should be fine yeah no Eureka Productions is not invested in the nullify take no le leis are Nies but I like the Amazing Race Australia this season as a Malaysian they go to Malaysia leaks right this season okay the chat's going the chat's going wild at the moment that's that is

42:49 Yeah they just spoil the task for you that legitimately happened this week in Amazing Race Australia right oh well I got to now I got to watch now I want to see like how they got how they got there you know I feel like I'm invested but coming back to this episode and specifically talking about you're getting the feel this so m Michelle will tell you this is exactly what it's like podcasting with me or Andor Michael this we a lot of lot of tangents a lot of tangents oh no it's fine I don't mind it but it's chat being naughty chat's the one I'm like you why you guys getting us to talk about the Amazing Race Australia you know this is this is going to happen on Sunday evening with Michelle she I think she's back she's not back we'll definitely have Kahuna and Tom and Verity talking about the Amazing Race Australia on the another fight take and then you should definitely bring up some of these comments but I think chat's being naughty they're trying to get me invested in The Amazing Race Australia so that I have to watch it and get onto one of the podcasts I feel like that's happening just watched the first two seasons when active TV produced it and I'm actually the primary source for a lot of the unaired material for season two of the Australian version I chatted with a lot of the contestants and I interviewed some of the teams because there were a lot of unaired tasks that happened in season two so if you look at the Wikia fandom page for season two of Amazing Race to Australia I'm the source on a lot of those on a lot of those tasks and I reached out to some of the businesses that

44:09 Were involved during season two right well I'm going to give you an opportunity towards the end of the podcast to also plug whatever you're doing because I know you still do a bit of blogging and all that kind of stuff you can point people in the direction they want to go check that out later on but getting back into this episode so I think that's the fourth time you said that on the on the on the delivery on the delivery side of it who else impressed you cuz I feel like another team that did extremely well was Liam and yeremy right because they had to come from pretty far behind they you know their whole thing was we were told we were dead last what are we going to change for this league not a damn thing we're just going to continue to do the things that we've been doing that got us to last place but you know you have I was laughing at it because I was like it's gotten you to the position that you're currently at and you're not going to change but there is something about them staying cool calm and collected throughout the episode and beasting out those mattresses weighing as much as it weighed and they got two of them up there at the same time which was a pretty good effort yes yeah 66 pounds and they got two up there at a time and they did it I thought oh they were smart to bring two of them at a time but leave one at the base of the stairwell I guarantee you that probably save them a solid 10 or 15 minutes and on top of that somebody in the live chat mentioned that they took off the yeah they left their bags that they left their bags in the hotel room just banking that taking

45:29 That risk that the no that nobody was going to go in and do petty theft on their on their bag so and I think when you're in last place I'm sure you don't you're it's a lot different thinking than if you're in first place where you think okay we have to take some risks here especially if they know that the first half only took three hours to film they figure the it's like being Jack Bower and 24 you know that you know the clock is running down quickly on you've only got three hours to catch up and potentially make up enough time where it's especially when the team that's second to last won the first two legs so you feel like your margin of just slow and steady makes you not lose the race isn't going to cut it you have to you have to take some risks and just hope that it's going to work out for you and it certainly did for them in this task yeah it's interesting because they did end up going there but a lot of the teams that were sort of back of the pack ended up choosing to do the stand challenge instead Steven analy was out there obviously they were first going into the stand but then most of the other teams that were sort of chasing for trying to get into that front pack and win the leag outright they ended up going for deliver they ended up sort of using their power and trying to sort of Beast their way to the top but I will say this that in the stand challenge there was a lot going on there with the eels right because

46:49 A few people were struggling with it how are you when it comes to handling Seafood anything that's fresh that maybe moving and things like that are you okay because it seemed like there was a lot of people who really struggled like I'm going to call out some people here Greg and John I think it was John who was struggling throughout that the two brothers song that's gone viral on Instagram the go the boy can sing I tell you that much like he's got he's got some pipes like he can sing I was like bobbing and weaving a little bit to it you know like when he was singing like they could they could definitely make that Viral I could see that Melena had a very tough time out there with Andrea being once the MVP of that team she just gets stuff done I've taken even after the first episode I was thinking Melena is the big wild card where she's not the best decision maker and that's just going to be inevitable with some teams where one person is just going to be much better overall compared to their teammate and that seems to be the case here where Melena said oh I want to do the mattress DET tour I want to do the sword play and then it's Andrea who has that logic of wait a second I think we should do the fish task and knowing that they were in last place from Elena said oh I don't want to touch the fish Andrea said we can't we can't we can't mess around here it's just get it done yeah get it done like and also she was the one who clutched it out for them at the end

48:10 As well with the road block yes the road block so I feel like she's absolutely carrying that team I'm a big I'm a big Team Pink fan like you know it started with Lulu and laa and the tradition is continuing on with Andrea and Melena this season as well I like the for some other reason the team pink always has like the Positive Vibes you know they bring that little bit of a spark this episode I don't think Melena was feeling it she had no positivity going on but Andrea had to use a little bit more Brute Force to get her through the challenge and she was successful in doing so Robin and Chelsea seemed to do pretty well throughout this challenge as well I was impressed by Victor's ability to just name all of the different fish that were out there like he not only did he know what they looked like he knew the names of it yeah again that's a indirectly related everything somehow relates to grocery shopping in these four episodes for him oh yeah we sell rice paper oh yeah I sell these fish oh yeah there's the let's do the shopping list in tie yeah the production on purpose give them challenges put them in Asia so they that would help give them a lot of like grocer grocery shopping types of tasks so that would help do you feel like they egg them on they try to get them to make it past these opening legs yeah it's going to be interesting because now fans are going to say oh see the first two legs were a complete fluke because Victor had this Advantage but the thing

49:30 That gave him the initial Advantage was an English word puzzle in La that's how they got on the first flight so wasn't even I don't think you shop you go grocery shopping for the word City of Angels to get ahead there so that would be completely independent of that got them into that lead plus they didn't well they temporarily went for the express pass they did eat some of the bugs but that didn't get shown on TV and then get first place from there and then his knowledge of Tai is very minimal it's just he knew how to speak with the with a Thai accent I think he said his Thai knowledge was is equivalent to like a two-year-old I think is what he said wow and then of course he's from Lao but he hasn't even been back to Lao in almost 30 years I think so he didn't really have that much of a i of that much of a cultural advantage for instance last year I spent five months living in Thailand and I feel like I probably would have had more of an advantage than Victor would have in Thailand probably wow yeah well that's good to clarify because we definitely myself and Michelle thought that he maybe had a bit more of an advantage and I sort of said to her maybe it's the case like for instance if I was to go to Netherlands and I was traveling there and people if they were to speak Dutch to me I would

50:50 Understand about 80% they say because of Africans it's very similar like you could understand most and you might just have one or two words you would need to like decipher but you'll have enough context of what the sentence means to actually know what they're talking about you know so you could put it together and with German I probably understand about 20% there would be certain words within the sentence but maybe not enough for the whole sentence to make scense I'd be like he spoke about it being you know on a mountain but I don't know exactly Mountain something you know like so it would be it would be vague so maybe that's about the amount like maybe he could pick a word here or there but not enough to really Mak sense of everything but it's good to get that knowledge yeah he I think he could imitate the thae accent I think that's what helped him and I've even noticed that with traveling a lot where like for instance if you if you speak Spanish for instance I learned pretty much I can speak about beginner intermediate level Spanish from traveling right and you just say a word but if you use it in an anglophone tone of voice people aren't going to understand you but if you use a stereotypical Spanish accent then people magically understand you so it's just Victor had that knowledge where oh if I just speak in a Thai or Southeast Asian accent I'm going to have that in and because he used that accent he was saying on some podcasts that a lot of locals in that market said oh

52:10 You're you know you have that Southeast Asian physical appearance plus you can imitate the Thai accent so we're going to help you it's a game where we want to be involved yeah we want you to win because you're representing us within this challenge so we're going to try and see if we can get you to where you need to be faster so that makes sense and I can I can see how that could be a thing loveable Nikki Andrea is definitely not is the bigger one of the two like main is the smaller one yeah because there's this scene where Joselyn and Victor comes there and they get to the stands and they're like Andrea shouting at Melena and that kind of gave them hope that they can still catch up to them but they struggled Andre Le here spotted two to three species of eels in that market as well done cuz to me it all look the same I will say one thing I will say one thing like I hate snakes as well like that's my worst I was ever I've always said there's two shows I would go on and actually play Survivor or The Amazing Race The Amazing Race would probably be a lot more fun than Survivor but if the opportunity came to play Survivor just because I'm such a big fan I would say yes to it yeah but if I was to get onto the Amazing Race and there's a challenge with me having to hold a snake having a snake on me it's there's going to be some tears Logan like it's not going to be easy for me so I could relate people looking at the thinking that's very close to almost like a snake and how that could bring fear out of people CU I don't know how I would have handled

53:31 It yeah I just yeah I don't really have that like fear of specific animals for instance growing up I always had to kill spiders for my for one of my siblings because he always had a big fear of spiders and then when I lived in Thailand for five months last year in puket I would be swimming in the ocean every day and a lot of jellyfish wash up on shore and sometimes the jellyfish are too small to where you can't spot them while swimming so once when I was swimming I accidentally touched the top of the jellyfish and I'm thinking well I don't even know what it feels like to be stung did I get stung by the jellyfish so I'm thinking I'm just gonna let this play out so it felt like there was an invisible film on my hand for about half an hour after accidentally touching a jellyfish when I was there so I don't really have that hesitancy when it comes to just grabbing animals whatever happens and then when I went when I was in Malaysia I went to where they filmed the very first season of Survivor Borneo back in 2000 where they filmed one of the UK Seasons there now was essentially treated as like a school Camp which is kind of funny but there was even like a stingray that was just swimming around in the water near me on Shore when I was there too and I wasn't I wasn't too concerned by it yeah just how I am and no it's useful it's definitely useful coming into these challenges you know because you never know what the Amazing Race is going to throw

54:51 Your away but you know as they leave these challenges they have to go to the this place of prayer pakota I don't know if I'm pronouncing that right and they get this opportunity to put some PR prayers in there wish for you know I guess success they said it's a place to pray for peace sentiment and success and a few teams took the opportunity to wish for a first place but not all of them were you surprised that there was a lot of them that were trying to be the bigger people out there what would you have wished for if you were out there would you have wished for first place or just something wider I would have tried to convince another team to come up with a really elaborate wish to take up as much time as possible where I wish I wish to get my Master's Degree and I also wish to eventually get married and have kids and I also I also wish for a Nintendo switch or maybe a PS5 do they still are they sold out I'm not too sure I also wish for more wishes that's I feel like Robin Cory's wish were the best like Cory saying he wishes that he could see one country for every year that he's alive so still young gu so that means there's a lot of countries that he can still go and visit yeah in his press pregame interviews he said I made the joke that he because he said he's been to 23 countries and I've been to 63 because my goal was 62 countries by the time I'm 31 so when the

56:11 Episode aired last night I was thinking oh his goal is to visit one country for each year that he's alive and mine is two countries for each year I'm alive so when he was doing his press stuff of being to 23 countries which makes sense because he's 22 or 23 years old I said well I've been to 63 so that means I'm like 2.7 times better than Cory because there are big they are big travel snobs out there that do country counting and think the more countries they visit that's how many times better they are than the other person so my running joke is I'm 2.7 times better than Corey because you traveled more you know so it's funny because I work the company I work for right now is in the travel industry and I used to think that yeah so I used to think that I've traveled a lot this is the first time I'm working in the travel industry actually but I used to think I traveled a lot I'm getting closer to like 20 countries now and I'm like oh that's a lot then I went into this thing and people are like oh I've been to like 80 something countries I've been to I'm getting close to 100 I'm like gez like I am such a newbie when it comes to the industry and you're right it is like almost like well you've only been to what 19 countries look at me I've been to 100 countries you know do you even do you even passport bro yeah but such a great experience I mean it makes sense for someone like Cory to do the show and I mean his big thing is he wants to do it with his dad show his dad a little bit of his world traveling around

57:31 And getting to experience different cultures and his dad and him they're a likable pair I've got to say just together we spoke a little bit about you know how Jeff not Jeff wrong show full how Full well how full how Full sort of you know Embraces you know Rob on the show and how he actually does sign language and things like that which a lot of it we sort of thought maybe it's because Rob doesn't fully read lips like we've had some other contestants in the past where he I don't remember doing it yeah for Phil he did sign placements for Luke when Margie and Luke were on in fact when he found out that they were about to step onto the mat in first place in season 14 I think 20 minutes beforehand he said he quickly checked with The Interpreter that they had on staff for That season said how do I how do I sign you are team number one so we learned it like 15 minutes before they hit the M he wanted to make their first place on the first leg special and then and then funny thing is marchie Luke were so damn close to winning season 14 and then in one of the Mason race Asia Seasons he wasn't completely deaf like Luke and Rob were but there was a partially or mostly de contestant in Amazing Race Asia who went on to win their season so I don't know what it is but death contestants have had a trend of doing really well in on The Amazing

58:51 Race throughout the different franchises Michelle and I spoke a little bit about that last week where we said it has to come down to the fact that when you're de and you lose one of your sentences your other sentence your sens sensus yeah sensus sorry yeah your sensus actually sort of gets heightened through that like for instance I think that Rob probably has you know he's got to see more with his eyes because his eyes is kind of like his ears so because of that amazing race is a show about recognizing patterns looking for the attention to detail a lot of the times and things like that and probably this is a superpower that people have that are de compared to normal people right because they have to use other sensors to get through it the ironic thing is that the reason why Luke lost two out of his three seasons was B was on a taste based task so you think oh if he only has four functional senses and he can't taste how you think his taste would be much more much more sensitive than everybody else's so it's a bit of iron ironic that the contestant who lost one of their senses get gets eliminated twice because of not having a sense of taste either so yeah it's interesting to yeah I've been thinking about this the past few weeks and my yeah my theory is that I think it's just especially through southeast Asia where it's you know what 40 or 50%

1:00:11 Of the world's population is focused in that part of the world so a lot of noise and I think I think it's just not having all that chaos and noise and just being able to focus on the task at hand I think I think that's why people like Rob like Luke and like Adrian have all done really well and all and all of their seasons were heavily focused in southeast Asia so I think that might be I think that might be the commonality there but it's fun to dissect that because now it's like why are Rob Luke and Adrien doing so well whenever they're in Southeast Asia yeah it's very interesting and I've never thought about that it does get bus like even when I was in Japan I was amazed how like how many people are in Tokyo at the same time walking yeah it gets it gets pretty busy it gets busy like even London's pretty busy as well whenever you're moving around there it's a different world and yeah it's like you said it's being able to drown that out getting hyperfocused on what it is that you're doing probably is an advantage to them but let's talk a little bit about the road block here we've sort of danced around it we've mentioned a couple of different things what did you think of this roadblock did you like it there was a thousand tiles identical tiles with only 11 of them being one of a kind just so happened we had the right amount of teams coming

1:01:32 Into this as well 11 teams what's the chances like how much homework would have gone into this to actually vet and find the perfect spot to do a rope lock such as this yeah and then I guess there were some inconsistencies with this roadblock there were some issues with it because a not everyone got the same tile there was a similar issue in season 4 episode 2 with the Venice roadblock where you had to match the masks and everyone had different masks which impacted who finished where and ironically enough the team that finished on last on that leg in season 4 went from first on the first leg to 11th on the second leg because of that roadblock so here we have a team that went first down to 11th or 10th and 11th as well because they got indirectly screwed over by a very similar task because yeah everyone had their own unique tile to look for and apparently some of them had paint block on them I guess to where it where it didn't perfectly match up if you were going buy it so you had to kind of it's like playing an online reality game of Survivor where you have to be like okay this doesn't quite match up but the challenges du in a couple hours so I have to think put myself in the brain of the host or production to figure out what they consider a matching tile so there's that metag game there which I think would really throw

1:02:52 Off the racers there and that's and that apparently impacted Victors he said he said that in some of the exit interviews that's what screwed him up at the roadblock and then I know we briefly went over the pagota task but going back to that there's an important detail as to why that Victor and Jos and lost time there we saw it very briefly in the episode but they in the pagota you need your arms and legs covered right so VI Victor knows that because he's I mean he did live in LA for the first 20 years of in his life in a part of the world where you do have pagodas and temples so he was looking through their bag to look for long pants and a way a ways to cover himself it didn't occur to and other teams wouldn't really be aware of this so he didn't know that he could just go into the pagota and production would already think here's a way to cover yourself Victor was outside the temple or outside the pagona looking through his bag and that's what cost them a precious minutes there and then in addition to that you have the roadblock where he had paint blotches where the tiles didn't match up perfectly and that's apparently and not everyone had the same differences to look for so some were much easier and more obvious to spot as opposed to other people at the roadblock where their unique tile was a lot more subtle so not everyone was on equal footing for that task it was just completely

1:04:12 And you can't even say like the other episodes where oh well if you were in the first boat for the fruit market then that means you avoid you get your reward for being early on 5 at the 5:45 a.m. boat is that you get to go to the boats before the chaos happens that's your that's your advantage here it was just look at the draw as to what tile you were going to get and whether your tile was going to be easy or difficult to match up so that's why we see some wonky placements and why somebody like Joel went from second down to Ninth Place because he clearly didn't have the most obvious tile to match up it's an interesting point that you rais a couple of things here obviously Victor's knowledge of the location and you know the fact that you the Pagoda sort of is something that is sacred and that you need to cover up actually counted against them there his knowledge yeah his knowledge he overthought he overthought the situation and yeah like having ignorance you know ignorance was Bliss for the others in this moment the counter argument that I have in regards to the tiles and why I kind of like it now firstly I don't know you know I'd love to see I guess how difficult it was or how much easier one TI was to the other TI I mean because at the end of the day we're all guessing at that we don't know like it could have been each one of them have had one specific difference the counter argument

1:05:33 To it is the fact that it does prevent alliances from forming which I like because I think that's what production probably thought g into this as well that if all the tiles were the same and there was only like maybe two or three tiles there that they could choose to work with other teams and find the spot quicker and it would kind of defeat the purpose of working on your own because we've seen yes exactly so we want to try and prevent that so I understand it from that point of view you bring up a good point that though if there was a vast sort of difference between these tiles and that it made it that much more difficult that some teams may have found it easier than others but at this stage we don't know like I can see what production was thinking and I can see why if you spoke to Victor he may feel that he had a more difficult tile compared to others but we eliminated yeah exactly we're talking to the guy who got eliminated like obviously he's going to say that like at the end of the day that's the easy out but I'm not saying he's lying I just don't know enough you're calling Victor a liar he'll be watching this I'm calling you out Victor calling you out okay you're a big stinking liar no this it's all love it's all love I probably do the exact same if I was in Victor's situation I'd blame it on the tile that's why you know when tennis players get frustrated they look at their record you know they're like the record's not working like I'm not yeah he beat me in Street Fighter my CU my controller was the a button wouldn't work yeah lovable Nikki

1:06:53 Says and is getting a Villain at it I to be honest with me I'm like I'm liking Anna Lee I'm liking her and Steve at the moment more than Robin and Chelsea because Robin and Chelsea were the first to be like you know we don't like them and it's like an had this like very innocent conversation about what she does on the farm and you know that really triggered something within Robin she didn't like it and that carried over to this but I there's you know whatever Robin and Chelsea Stephen en they're all fun I love the fact that there's this rivalry forming but I can see it from the point that en also didn't help Todd but was the right move like she couldn't out thought she was trying to get into first place there's a prize at stake here yeah and I didn't I didn't think of that when you mentioned that earlier of well because ever since there was that huge outcry at the end of season 32 where all the fans said you can't have everyone work together on each of these tasks you have to figure out a way to separate them like they were all blasting biram and Elise for allowing this to happen that's why burchman at Le in postseason interviews after season 32 said yeah we're going to want work on that in the future to make sure teams can't just align and just move as a as an alliance all the way to the end of the race where you know I felt like it became a problem between like season 30 and 32 at one point it was just like the meta game was get with two or three other teams and work your way through challenges together yeah and it's just the thing that with the

1:08:13 Lower budget that's why they had to start doing more puzzles and stuff where you like for instance it was very obvious last season with the budget being reduced during the Jordan the kingdom of Jordan legs where they had that puzzle in front of in Petra there I'm thinking out of all the things you can do in Petra you're making them do that do a do a slide puzzle so now that's also I think they were I also think they were very scared because it was like still in the co lockdown or Co restriction time that they were doing it so they're probably very scared to like the fact that we got to go to Jordan while that was happening was actually a bonus on its own to be honest yeah now we're not going to be going to Jordan anytime soon ladies and gentlemen unfortunately yeah no sadly not sadly not so at least we got that episode and that's why travel can be so unpredictable right like a season can be unpredictable I mean if that happened at the wrong time imagine something like that happening in the middle of a season like what is the backup plan yeah because well I think they've had that happen my tire story cap is on but yeah with sudden unrest or natural disasters they've had to PIV pivot yeah it's like the peee heard word of the day pivot yay where they've had to Pivot to go to another country at the at the last second that's definitely happened

1:09:33 And then yeah because yeah people won't believe that for instance in the Vietnamese version of Amazing Race they went to North Korea for a lake that actually happened in and then what was it in the American version season 10 they did have a leg in Ukraine they're not going they're not going people are going to have a tough time believe leaving that happened once a time well Jonathan gray here coming up with saying I'd like to congratulate Robin and Chelsea on being the fourth team to win a leag after coming 11th after Derek and Drew in The Amazing Race three TI and Jer in The Amazing Race four and jet and cord in unfinished business so well done to both of them yeah I was looking up stats on that for if they had the lowest active average of any team to win a leg four or later in the season and off the top of my head I was thinking yeah charlot Mira they got like eth seventh or so in season 11 because that was a big shock of what they W to they won a leg and their average I think at that point was 7.75 going into their leg one and here with Robin and Chelsea they had a 9.0 average and going into their into their leg win this week 2227 yeah it was 9.0 average so it's it was one of those one of those out of nowhere first place finishes H

1:10:54 What about Joselyn and Victor going from first and first to 10th and 11th effectively would that be like Robin Amber that I can think of maybe in allar season even yeah even last episode I looked up those records and for teams who won consecutive legs that was the that was the biggest drop was going from first to down to 10th because the previous record was a three-way tie between Z Justin Robin Amber and David Connor s Justin David Connor and their original Seasons not their subsequent appearance right and then going from first to 10th period not including their consecutive leg wins that was only broken by Amanda and Chris from season 4 going from first to 11th at the start of season 4 yeah I couldn't find I couldn't find I was trying to go through things I knew of international Seasons off the top of my head and didn't really find that replicated anywhere so that record so yeah thought Victor and a were second for just leg win down to how much they dropped the subsequent leg and then they definitely broke the record for consecutive leg wins and then dropping down to as low as they did they also oh and they have sorry one quick record I went Victor and Jon also have the record for the best

1:12:14 Average of 5.75 of any team that finished a season in 11th place through all 91 International seasons of Amazing Race no one's had as low on average as they did for finishing in 11th wow yeah it's been it's been it's been a lot of it's been a lot of up and down and it's actually kind of exciting to be honest not to have a team out and out dominate this season so far I mean there's only been maybe the who's the most consistent team at this point would it be Todd and Ashley at this stage because I kind of feel like they've got 554 and three and stepen en's pretty good 661 and two yeah I got I got it up here so I was looking at yeah Robin yeah Robin Corey have a 3.0 average they've definitely been the most consistent yeah step analy are 3.75 yeah so there's been a lot of repeat placements especially between the two Thailand legs and then two Vietnam legs for a lot of people where yeah there's Jonathan gray yeah 3.0 yeah I don't know if I said it first or if he typed it first I don't know either to be honest I didn't I didn't check K coming in late to the to the live kiwi welcome back to live saying I like the old style book your own flights again that makes for excitement I agree and we've already had some drama at the airport so you know I'm definitely liking that yeah one other yeah then one other stat that

1:13:34 Occurred to me yesterday was just with everyone's averages just when's the last when's the last time where one team didn't outright dominate through the first four legs so out of the past since season 20 only Seasons 29 and 26 didn't have a team that had an average a lower than 3.0 through the first four legs you're living up to your name the T story in tonight you're bringing in the like it's all going over my head but you know that's what we brought you in and if you're not here it's Michelle like Michelle if you're hearing this if you're listening to this later on you've got some big boots to fall when you come back next week you know because Logan's been definitely giving us you know all of the history in regards to where teams have played which is it is interesting and I mean there is something to be said for the fact that we've got this leg right now where people are yo-yoing up and down no one more so than jel and Garrett who went from 779 two back to nine struggling on this roadblock specifically Robin and Chelsea got up there but again this roadblock I feel like anyone could have jumped ahead or so quickly exactly a lot of teams did in like five minutes this roadblock apparently and I mean stepen eny were their out first so far ahead of everybody else so it shows you how much Anna Lee would have struggled doing this road block to and Ashley getting third place here

1:14:55 Very consistent Joe and Ian again another team that went from 977 to Fourth came from behind to really finished strong Rob and Cory continuing to do well obviously the best team so far Liam and yeremy as well coming in there like pretty much second to last and then ending up in sixth place it's a pretty big jump from being 11th to sixth that was because of the mattress task that was just them they've just figuring out that strategy just out of nowhere through four legs we haven't seen any sort of Ingenuity or just a you know that race IQ kick in and then suddenly when it comes to delivering Vietnamese mattresses that's apparently their specialty who knew that's this that's this skill like that's their hidden skill you know if they if they even need a job maybe getting into you know the Movement Company type of work where they can help people relocate you know like I think that could be a profitable business for both of them they don't win the million yeah family company yeah family company making up for got to make up for L time 100% that's their story I feel like Liam and YY gets the journey story line this season like I really feel like they've got this journey story line it was interesting to hear that their wish was to just get to the end they don't have to win so it' be interesting to see if that actually comes to fruition if they make it to the end but not win yeah it's kind of a it's kind of poetic that they have the most moving storyline and it's a task that involves

1:16:15 Moving things that put had yeah so true so true on this one let's have a look at what other people are saying here says 26 and 29 The Strangers season makes sense Jonathan says Robin and Chelsea Liam Andrea Melena bottom three on average 7 8.25 and9 yep reality TV Warriors there we go they were meant to do Michael harston's in the chat damn it can we can we get another can we get another old school podcaster to you know dust off the mic and come on to the channel at some stage I wonder you know yeah I think you'd have to twst harston's arm a bit to get on about Amazing Race now I think that's fair that's fair Jonathan says imagine if Morgan and Lena used their Express Pass here yeah exactly that we haven't even spoken about that like in hindsight I wasn't too low on them using the express pass last episode because of the fact that it looked like at that point they were behind quite a bit it was congested out there you know they weren't in the best position so they could skip a couple ahead sadly they didn't have 2020 Vision they and realized that it was going to be one big leag and that they wasted it on the part of the leag that didn't matter like in hindsight was this a flop I feel like it may have been but can you blame them no I think this is the most

1:17:35 Useful Express Pass usage I've seen because in all the other us Seasons where they've had the express pass the closest that anybody's come to using the express pass to save themselves from elimination was Gary Maller unfinished business and I don't think they were going to finish in last place on that leg it's just the closest anybody came to being eliminated when using the express pass most of the time it's irrelevant because the team who claims it at the start of the Season isn't in danger by the time it expires whether it be leg four or leg eight leg eight is the latest expiration date they've ever had on an Express Pass in the American version and this time because both legs ran concurrently together over a six-h hour period Morgan and Lena said this didn't really translate too well on TV but their boat driver was the slowest and didn't really know where to go and that's why they used it when they did so it sounds like they probably and plus they would have been amongst the chaos of all the teams and get really backed up on top of that and because this all ran the same day and they barely beat out Victor and Json to the mat like they didn't they only beat them by a few minutes by the sounds of it sounds like this Express Pass is the only reason why they are not eliminated wow okay well there you go yeah they save the most time on this task compared to any other task Rel T Warriors since I've been chatting for ages but you've been ignoring me I haven't

1:18:55 I don't think I've seen I don't think I've seen your chat but I do know and you can answer this there was someone in the chat earlier that one of the mods they muted a chat so I don't know if it was you earlier so let me know if you got muted maybe I don't know because I haven't seen any otherone as a joke like I don't know I definitely not this account because otherwise I wouldn't be able to see any of the comments coming in so I don't know if you were chatting on two accounts let me know because I know I do know one of the mods have actually muted one chat earlier on because I think there was yeah so there was probably an inside joke because he was saying something about you Logan and then the mod just you know pulled it out so it was probably be surprised yeah they don't know the inside material so it's like just block harstone right then and there no way so that must that must be what it is so I'll make sure I'll check it afterwards we'll unmute you they probably didn't know the inside between you sitting in the back giving you grief and the mods thinking you're like he's you're serious yeah so he's from I don't know if Michelle told you this but harstone space in the UK so that's why he would be he would be very much awake right now right okay that makes sense he's saying you're a deviant yeah like yeah well at least I know the mods are doing their job that's a good thing yeah keepstone out yeah exactly is there anything else you wanted to discuss anything you wanted to bring up about this episode as a whole as

1:20:15 We move into the next League did we oh the judge for the roadblock I don't know if you know we're aware of this but Fitbit used to be a sponsor for The Amazing Race in Seasons 26 and 27 I don't remember that no so justtin Diana they won a big prize where they won a Fitbit and they won based on how many steps they took that's how much money they were given so because it was the PO yeah now I remember something about that yeah so because they took like 27,000 steps they won the $ 27,000 courtesy a Fitbit I really wish Fitbit was a sponsor because that Vietnamese judge guy at the roadblock it would have been funny to see him move cuz he's Runing around in hoian City checking 11 teams that's just brutal I was I do no I do think there was more than one judge cuz in the beginning I thought it was the one person but I'm pretty sure there was more than one judge that was running around but still running around in that heat the way that you get these teams running up to you saying come with me they're full on sprinting I mean Morgan and Lena were pretty like Lena was full sprinting to get to that one there because she knew how close it was between her and Victor as well so hats off there would have been a lot of steps there would have been some records broken yeah and him just Runing around I was thinking man I wonder what his step count was and if Victor because the pit stop was right there if Victor

1:21:36 Actually got it right or if the guy was so exhausted on and on the verge of fainting they said just you're last anyway you know you're eliminated I will prove you I can't I can't do this anymore yeah no fair enough my that was you know again impressive especially for them obviously being out there being local knowing the conditions the humidity I'm surprised really that we didn't see anybody faint or pass out while they were there I never really saw them hydrate throughout the whole episode so I don't know if they were doing this in between legs before they or between they probably would have had like a little stop I think we had who was it that we had on the podcast I think it was Dusty that was on the podcast a while ago that said that between legs and their season they actually had like little stops where they had to take like liquids and things like that to even with the mega leagues they actually stopped there was like some time between before they kept racing was I don't know if this season was the same no they didn't they didn't they didn't stop them apparently this time I think they stopped for I don't know if was part of the leg itself but they said they stopped for a very quick very quick bite to eat I don't know if that was just their own decision because of how long the because of it being a six hour day and for the later teams that flew in from Bangkok they didn't get the chance to go anywhere and rest up they

1:22:56 The boats were leaving almost right after they got to the to the marker there and then on top of that oh that's another interesting thing about this episode is that the reason why specifically Victor and Joselyn I believe said that they didn't search for that extra 545 a.m. slot so there's a lot of speculation about that is because they thought they were forbidden from doing so that' be considered tampering because in season 14 leg there was an issue with Mark and Michael where they got a 2hour PTY for tampering with the detour equipment so it sounds like maybe teams were hesitant to look through the other slots that they didn't think that they necessarily were allowed to because it would be considered tampering to look for that 5:45 a. slot so B to ask forgiveness and permission better to ask for forgiveness and permission is what we've learned and that's where analy's got a little bit of that agge you know trying to get that bit of time slot out of there Jonathan's asking Robin and Chelsea for the U-turn Target targets especially since there is a U-turn vote coming up who would you who would you u-turn at this stage like would it be Robin and Chelsea because I feel like it' be a kind of like a wasted U-turn like you want to Target someone that potentially could be a threat to you I still don't think this first place puts like unless they can back it up with one or two more top three finishes I don't know if they're necessarily the biggest threats out

1:24:16 They to win the season yeah because there's not really enough data because the team that just went home won two out of the first four legs and then Steven anal Won leg three but then you know they dropped a they dropped a little bit at the roadblock there and then Robin and Chelsea Vol teams won L four so I don't think it'll be necessarily a strategy of stopping who you think who's the strongest since there isn't a super clear Contender yet and they're all on relatively equal footing so it'll probably be just whichever team is the most antisocial and I think it's going to be that reason why Robin and Chelsea get U-turn because they seem to be the team that's that isn't really getting along or yeah interacting too much with the other teams because that happened in season 29 when the reason why van and Ashen got U-turn is because they really kept to themselves and they just everyone else was at the front of the plane and thank and Ashton were or I don't know they just weren on they weren't in the same section of the plane as everybody else and that's when they said ah you guys want to U-turn van can Aston this leg they're the only team that's not here and we all just move one step forward and that's the only reason why they got U-turn so I could see that if Robin and Chelsea just aren't getting along with everybody else and everyone's thinking well

1:25:36 Let's just uturn the team that we're not getting along with and that also happened in the Australian version too where they had a must vote U-turn and on the first must vote U-turn of season two they all just said ah let's just go after the team that nobody's really getting along with and they completely disregarded as to as to strength yeah no mangling at the pit stops yeah but in terms of on the race course teams have had the chance to interact there yeah very interesting listen we are getting to the end of the show right now but for everybody that has been in the live tonight taking part in the conversation I appreciate you so much thank you for those that are watching this at the latest stage if you got to this point thank you as well please consider subscribing hitting the like button putting the notification Bell on so that you can be informed the next time we go live I will be back with in about 11 hours or so from now to do the challenge fantasy draft for the challenge 39 with angel cake and reality realness with three s's here on the channel it's a YouTuber Showdown I believe I'm in the running and I may have already won I haven't watched the latest episode the last draft that we did for the USA 2 think this cross that worked out very well for me we also have Survivor content coming in tomorrow as well I won't be the main host on that but Kahuna will replace me because I'm doing the draft shortly

1:26:57 After that podcast and he will be back with my regular co-host Jake to talk about the latest episode also for Survivor so a lot of things happening here yeah I've seen Survivor I've seen Survivor what's your thoughts you liking this season I'm we've been recording for an hour and a half and I already heard somebody else quit During the period of us recording yeah I like I lik the episode as a whole but I do have some I'm actually gutted that I won't on survivors sort of thing because I feel like I would be the lowest on the quit out of the two I think Kahuna I don't know if he's listening and Jake are going to go pretty soft on that and they might be like oh you know look at him he had some stuff that he was dealing with blah well I would just be like it's unacceptable so I maybe I'll have to do like a top five takes or something short form video just to get my feelings out there later on in the week but I'm not a fan of quits like the quits really bother me and it bothers me that it doesn't bother Jeff anymore or it doesn't bother him like it used to yeah that's more of a yeah it's more of a production fault if you cast somebody who quit you got to you got to catch that in casting now we've had two people quit in equal to or less than from anybody who ever quit in the US version yes and I've known the guy Brandon I've known him for like 14 years online so I was a bit surprised to

1:28:17 See how that how he played out on TV since I've known him for such a since yeah 2009 2010 since 2010 I've interacted with him we know a lot of the same people so I was very surprised to see that play out for him the way it did all right well maybe we get you in on a future Survivor recap as well you know if you've got time I've had a lot of fun today talking to you about the latest episode here of The Amazing Race like I said see you guys next week we should have Michelle back as well thank you for watching bye
