1:32 Sat in this chair so it's very exciting to be back yeah I always feel quite bad for you because when we covered squid game I was like yo V I want you on squid game you should watch the Korean show and for this I'm like hey V I want you on Traders watch the first season of New Zealand Traders but you've pulled up time and time again for me and I really appreciate you V I think I finished the first season yesterday so getting there well speaking of the first season we're also joined by a astonishing player herself she won the week two of smartest move of the week where she told the faithfuls if you voted me out you'll look like a fool afterwards strategic Mastermind she made it to the end but couldn't quite get there it is the lovely the amazing Julia how are you hi I'm great I'm very excited to talk the first two episodes holy moly it seems like it's rocked around so fast you know it hasn't it hasn't I feel I know when they filmed and I feel like they turned around so much faster than our season so I'm really excited to see what happens crazy already so much better than ours no I think so I'm

2:52 So I'm yeah it's looking great and but you're not on it yeah well there's that but I it's an exciting it's exciting looking cast the budget is higher it's moodier Paul Henry is way more unhinged and great looking his wardrobe is wonderful I'm so excited and we're also joined today by a really good friend of mine he is now my manager so if I train him poorly he will be giving me less hours in the upcoming weeks but ladies and gentlemen please welcome the Great and the amazing the guy whose bed looks like he just came out of a shower drain it is hes heish how are you do I know you hello everyone good to be back here yeah man looking forward to this season already really enjoying it Julie is right it's a you know cool cast so far so we're off to a pretty cool start and something I love about like new zealanders more so than any other cast is I feel like we're way more unhinged and just more naturally cooked about everything more so than other people around the world like you've got America where most of the cast is just celebrities you've got Australians where it's like mix of celebrities and regulars

4:13 But everyone's got like a poker face everyone's got some sort of you know a lot of TV experience but new zealanders I feel like nah we just want to have our have our pie at the local deir we just want to have our Lo V but you know we're just like naturally kiwis I feel like they're brings much more greater entertainment than some of the other like celebrity based Trader shows and Julie you talked yeah exactly well from even from my perspective we truly wanted to play you know it was it wasn't sure it was about the money but I was there purely for the experience of wanting to play and have fun playing and already I can see that people are there to play and play hard and the interesting thing for me is that I want to I want to talk about the people that haven't been showing yet because there's you know already some hot people there that are visible but there's been a couple of shots to cast where I've gone wait a minut who's that and you haven't you know they're so under the radar that we don't even it's the first time that I'd seen them in the show you know and those to me are the people that we got to be

5:33 Like who's that and why are they so under the radar already true well just before we dive deep into that huge shout out to Andre Lee coming in hot with the tin cheeky Buck saying someone might have said or I might have dreamed it well we'll definitely be getting into that a bit later on but thank you so much for Don nendo Andre as always you are a massive Legend but let's start in Traders New Zealand season 2 baby right off the bat we are given a Twist where there's like well first of all before even mention the twist how great was it that our lovely friend and the winner of previous season Sam Smith not the singer but the great comedian comes out with all this wine Julia like has Sam offered you wine one before never Sam doesn't drink so I was kind of going well what and look I knew that Sam had some involvement in the show but I didn't know that he was going to feature in the show so as soon as I watched it I was like what the heck you're in so I messed him straight away and yeah pretty crazy great little intro great test off the bat and I was really relieved for the

6:53 Two the two girls that ended up getting the I think it was a Ros wasn't it yeah it was will V you seem like a Ros kind of girl if there was a bunch of like self BLS or other white wines and Two Roses would you have naturally gone for the Rosé or well I'm also a non-drinker so I probably would have taken something and just held it awkwardly or said can I have a soft drink or like lemon lime BS or something so it would have just been awkward yeah well you know right out the bat we do have Molly and Whitney who picked the roses and Julia obviously you're the only one who's got real Traders experience with them having the roses and right out of the gate like being sort of pushed to the front of everyone's Minds would you say is that a good thing or like a bad thing in a game like Traders I don't know if it's either I mean everybody has their own strategy and gameplay and mine was always try and stay out of the spotlight for as long as possible but I even with that sometimes you don't even have a choice you're kind of dumped there and thrown into the game and then all of a sudden you're given a drink I guess it's kind of like oh gosh now I've got this what's gonna happen I mean even with I recall

8:13 Even with me I was like you know we did the line remember and we and I hadn't watched the UK season so I didn't know what happened to those guys so I was like I don't care I'll just go to the end and you just you just don't know and I think that the ultimatum with the five grand that was such an interesting twist man I certainly didn't see that coming so and that's a scary decision to make I think I would have taken it actually oh all right well ask you the because it's quite interesting because so early on even before the Traders are selected if you take the five grand you've already kind of got that selfish title attached to your name and you know yeah BR bro like I don't think I'm to win it man I don't think I'm going to get 100,000 or whatever it is but I can get 5,000 for having a Ros true well to be fair the smartest move of the game last season was when Sam Fury gapped it for 10K right at the start so do you think Molly and Whitney miss out on a chance of making the smartest move of oh yeah that was like the that was the like least smart move yeah that's my stupidest move right

9:33 Is the segment's going to be this the season stupidest move of the game and it's just like genuinely smart stuff well V I don't think I've asked you this question but if you're playing a game of Traders would you want to be a Trader or a faithful oh I've asked myself that so many I like that having control of the game like a Trader does I think that's sort of unmatched so I think I'd have to go with that but also it would be heartbreaking to just end someone's experience just with you know it's a lot of power for a handful of people yeah but you know it's unmatched you got to do it yeah absolutely and Julie you played the game as a faithful do you think there are many advantages to just being a faithful compared to being a Trader Well you certainly don't have the oversight that they've got obviously they know what's happening in the game but then also they don't too because there's things that they don't know you know some of the faithfuls kep kept their thoughts and behaviors to themselves you know and also like that

10:53 Round table is Savage it can go it can change direction so quickly you know like a lot of the sometimes for us when we played we kind of knew where the majority vote was going to go before going into the round table but then somebody could drop a bomb in there and everyone could be like wait what happened and you could have missed it all and then if you're watching things that are happening around the round table then all of a sudden things can go a different direction so I don't know if everybody's strategy is different M mine was to stay under the radar I think that's a really good play for as long as you can and then just you can at least defend yourself in a round table to an extent yeah and keep it that way you know and if Traders think that you potentially are going to get banished naturally you're not going to have they're not going to waste a murder on you so you can kind of play it that way which was kind of where I went for as long as I could like cing a few votes but not enough to actually be like that suspicious kind of yeah and every day it changes some it was so mental you could go in each day going oh this you know

12:13 This is happening and then so and then it goes into completely different direction like whoa I didn't see that coming so that's what I'm super excited about especially the next you know episode three and four what's going to happen now yeah well I'm H much and I were actually speaking because we watched episodes together that we felt like Mark was trying to play a similar strategy to you which is as long as I just get the second highest numbers of votes but not the main highest number of votes I'll be fine each banishment I feel like Mark's in a good position now you know because is that is that the dunge Dungeons and Dragons guy yeah the Dungeons and Dragons guy yeah he's oh you're right I was I was thinking of this is Mike the trader because he's also kind of like at the beginning there was a bit of Suspicion his way that he's also like relatively under the radar as well yeah but then I guess he's a traitor so that kind of doesn't really work yeah he's just suspicious of him well let's quickly dive into you know the three Traders so straight off the bat we have Whitney Jane and Mike and I feel like straight away

13:34 I mean Julie I'm not sure what it's like when you played but I felt like straight away everyone almost had sort of clocked who the three Traders were people were really sus on Mike people really sus on Jane because for hard swallowing and stuff and a little bit about winning personality were you guys able to figure out like Dan Lauren and Matt pretty quickly or I certainly wasn't you guys got Robbie pretty quickly we got we got I think we got Lauren first day yeah but I yeah I mean you're coming out swinging I reckon you know if you're putting names out there on day one you know you're coming out swinging pretty hard the fact that so many of them have nailed it I mean whoa it's it's pretty good and I know Justine Smith came out and I had no idea until we watched the show how onto it she was from day one I think she called at least two of them I think she called Matt and Dan yeah oh okay yeah well Justin was like such an intuitive

14:54 Player like I felt like if there were two players who really knew everything that was going on it was Brook and Justine yeah season but we do get a Twist though V where they get to recruit a fourth Trader into the game and now there many different ways you can play this but I felt like they went with obviously the most funniest route with just choosing a poor person to sacrifice straight away do you think that's how you would play the game if you were a Trader I mean it's one way I think I probably would have built up a strong team rather than look for a sacrificial lamb personally someone that I know that I can work with long term but yeah is that why you potentially think they chose Jackie over Mark just because maybe they thought they could work with someone like a Jackie well I think they're hoping that Jackie will be a bit of a heat seeker for them and take the spotlight off of them and so which I thought was a bit rough on poor old Jackie I thought it was a bit mean but you know you just don't know it and I and I'm very much rooting for Jackie to really take control I'm not sure she will but you know I love an underdog and I'd like her to take control of the Traders and really make the game her own but who

16:14 Knows yeah well we definitely see that Jackie as well is not afraid to share her opinion we've seen her throughout these two episodes just pully just dump Mark every way she can ah you got to be careful of that of The Dungeons and Dragons I'm also a d I'm also Dungeons and Dragons master and I'm pretty strategic myself well Julia I know you had some like a Kimberly on your season who was out there being like a sidekick when you have a character like a Jackie or even someone else about it like a mark is that someone who you naturally try and Target straight away or I don't know I reckon you know I understand the tactic of what they're doing because from what we're seeing in the edit she's quite chat you know they're showing that she's quite chatty and so if you're if you're loud or you're suggesting things it means that you're spotlighted right and so why I'm saying it's Mark right The Dungeons and Dragons guy so I really like him or because I feel just watching it and I'm hopeful that it could go this way that

17:35 It potentially could work out at Mark's favor right where if poor Jackie that's been bought in potentially as the sacrificial lamb does get voted out potentially at the next banishment then again it puts Mark in a win again so then he's almost Untouchable do you think that's kind of true yeah do you think un unless people think it's like two Traders going each other or something but yeah that's probably right yeah they potentially could leave him alone for a while because it could you know if another trade is bought in or it's Jane isn't it that's in the hot seat Well potentially was on the hot seat man how she came out so hot at that and then I almost went oh jeez she's pulling the misogynous car wow nobody doesn't you know like poor Terry oh Terry so on you were so on to it but I think he played too early played too early yeah I found it really funny that when Terry gaer like you know I'm not a traitor speech he was like first of all i' just like to say I have a strong independent wife

18:55 And I really love her respect her just clar yeah as soon as soon as he can but dud but his banishment speech was so good how he was like I'm married to a detective and I was like he knows he knows yeah well Terry did clock Jane really quickly because of like you know pretty like intense swallows and stuff like that like Julia it must be so hard when you're in such a pressurized environment like the like the round table and even selecting the Traders like how do you like calm yourself in that situation I guess it's the same in any situation my big thing is I would always compartmentalize everything so I would just be keep it cool keep it cool and not take it in emotionally the best that you can you know right at the end you're so tired anyway you know in these early days if you can control and compart metalize what's happening to you the best that you can then you're absolutely until a win but the thing is that you guys know watching the game you are under a microscope every single thing that you do is monitored so if you drink weird if you stumble over your words if you glance a weird way everyone's like what does that

20:15 Mean yeah well i' be I'd be terrible in the game of trailers because I do have like a slight stutter and very similar to Mark I just find everything like really funny light stutter I find everything really funny so I just laugh at a lot of things naturally and so people would be like accusing me maky I think you're a Trader good [Laughter] one well you know I actually I have to admit I do also like swallow quite a lot when I'm nervous and I noticed that a lot like working in like a sales thing if I feel like somebody's kind of seeing through my BS but the greatest weapon that I have is having a beard that covers my neck so people can't tell well let's quickly talk about Mark because I told how much people were watching it they felt like a lot got cut out of the round table but then I think I realized why I got cut out I'm pretty sure everyone probably had a go at saying why they think Mark is a traitor was dunking on him like V how do you feel about Mark Le on into the show well I thought what he said was terrific that coming second in the Round Table is as good as a shield and I thought that perspective is terrific

21:35 And I think I think he runs pretty deep and yeah and it's you know if he I completely understand how he said he giggles at everything because everyone's talking about him I think I'd be quite similar you just it would be so surreal that you go oh my gosh oh my gosh and that could actually really help him because people won't know where he's coming from he's not doing your typical behaviors so he randomly starts laughing it's not really going to Ping The Radars as much as someone else so I'm really interested in watching him I think he could be someone really special on the show yeah when Michael and I were watching it together Michael was saying that he reminded him of Andy from Australian Survivor and if you haven't seen it's basically this guy who like is really excited to play and he's just really not good but I think that's probably unfair like maybe this early on he comes across that way but that's probably his plan well I mean Juliet like when you are just such on the hot seat like I guess probably like jamus at the moment how much Social Capital do really have to try and change things around because

22:55 All eyes are on you at that point it's really hard unless somebody throws some crazy spinner in the works that you weren't aware of or you weren't part of that conversation during the day I don't know if these guys have played the same but like I said we kind of went in with we did have alliances to a degree and we had almost we had sign language going on that probably the producers had no idea that we were doing it but we were doing symbols of who we were going to go for so we were doing people's enough initials like you know on our shoulders and stuff and like all kind of giving eyeballs so we had almost kind of made that executive decision going in so unless so we could we could have a majority vote and also you didn't want to put your head up because if you were the odd one out people would say why did you vote that way you know why didn't you do what we were doing so you've always got to watch what people are voting and why they're not going with the crowd or whatever it sucks that you have to be a sheep but you kind of do for a while at least when you watched your season back did you ever see any shots where people were doing the

24:15 You know whatever no because we were predominantly doing that when the cameras weren't rolling yeah or you might see no I didn't see anybody doing that like there was a couple of times I think there was maybe one shot of me I think when we banished Philly and I was like really anti it I was I was thinking no it's panicked it's panicked I don't think Philly's I think this is a faithful move but I couldn't shift the room people were so on it and so I went well I've got to go that way as well there's no way around it I can't say it isn't yeah but I do I think there was one shot where I turned to Justine next to me and I said it's not him it's not him and she was like and then obviously it wasn't and I shouldn't even I shouldn't have even done that I shouldn't have done that but I just lost my composure but yeah it's really hard I anything can happen in the round table right so exciting for I'm so excited for the next episode to see what happens crazy yeah especially like the pressure I feel like the pressure of the round table like really just fills your adrenaline because V while Jan was defending herself she turned

25:36 Things on D and it's like oh because you're coming after me this why I think you're actually TR and so beta through and through yeah but I feel like you really when someone's like accusing you pretty strongly but you twisted around to being like no you're the traitor and then they turn out to be a faithful how would you think you'll be able to like fre recover from that I don't know it's it was such a shame to see the first vote as you could watch the names going you're like no you know it was all between Terry and Mark and they were just so far off the track but yeah I don't know how Jane's going to turn this around I really don't know well I feel like if there's one person who could save her it's actually Bri and I've got a strong case on why because when she cast her vote for Ty because something you brought up Julie is when people casted like random votes who kind of voted on the wrong Sid like oh why did you vote with that when Bri ferer tyi or you know just before the vote she was saying that how like oh you told me that we're g to Blindside Bailey or whatever because she's like you know the youngest like smartest girl and stuff but T was like no I never said that and no one else had defended her on

26:56 That do you think like can move like that and even she said straight away that she's got the worst short-term memory do you think something like that could potentially like put a huge Target on your back if you just R make up stuff oh totally I mean we had that in our game as well you know but it's yeah if it's he said she said I mean it's distractions right so everyone's going what's happening why is this well this needs to we need to quiet this down it's too distracting for all of us you know you just yeah you got to just try and stay out of it as much as you can hey do you know what we haven't talked about is the who got murdered first as well yes I was just about to bring that up yeah yes so for the murder we got Janie Jana is that how you pronounce her name Jana was the first one to get murdered and I feel like Whitney really took control of this Mur as well like what's your thoughts to be on Whitney so far she's definitely controlling the game which I think is great but I don't I don't think it's sustainable the way she's doing it at this point I think she's just having a load

28:16 Of fun with it I think she's just You Can Tell She's really enjoying the whole experience I don't really understand the first murder I find you know these first couple of episodes when you haven't had a chance to really get to know people I feel like some of the reasoning doesn't necessarily translate to the narrative that they put on TV so it did feel like it kind of came out of nowhere a little bit but clearly they had good reasons yeah well hey M we've watched a lot of like random reality TV shows where you always have that one player who wants to start taking out like other Alpha type players do think getting rid of Someone Like A Jana who defitely clearly seemed like more of a challenge leader than a strategic leader do think they smart to get rid of her now before she have following behind her or keep her so that you can earn more money for the park I think that if you're trying to take out somebody who has a strong strategic presence early they will find a way to make it look as though you're like kind of coming out the gate too hard and then they'll just turn that on you and that's pretty risky if you see somebody who doesn't necessarily yet have a strong strategic presence but you can see that they're a good social player

29:36 As the game progresses that strong social player with that strong social presence is going to become a big threat to you because obviously it's a very social game as like Julia was kind of mentioning before you know following the group so getting rid of somebody who would evolve into probably a very like Strong Rock for the for the faithful yeah I think that was the right choice yeah so Julia often in different reality TV shows there's an idea of a player Shield so if you keep a bigger Target like around you or you stay pretty close to them they're more likely to get targeted over you and we saw this a lot with Traders us season 2 and I know I know that V's currently watching that at the moment so I won't spoil who was what but was there anything like that's was happening on your season I feel like the move of getting rid of Jana was definitely removing a shield for someone else in the future was there a time on your season where moved like their not that I was aware of anyway no I don't I don't think so certainly not in our game and I haven't seen any of the US ones so

30:57 I know can I didn't even I didn't even watch the UK season 2 Julia no I know I know can I like my thing is like I kind of played it so I feel like I was in it was traumatizing [Laughter] enough I mean I'm enjoying the New Zealand one because it's you know it's cool because it's home but I yeah I didn't I didn't watch the other ones W I didn't even watch the season of UK I just watch them because Michael tells me to watch them that's why I've just the New Zealand one and half of the Canadian one yeah I mean very similar Tov with Hamish I'm like heish we're watching this and if first he says no but then I find a way to force him to watch it so I watched both Australian oh you watched both of the Australian ones I did I think maybe because it's close to home so yeah true so yeah just over the ditch well V correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Australian Trad is cancelled now is it oh no I is it Julie would you know anything about

32:18 That renewed for a third yeah so all the Aussie viewers are going to come to us now yeah exactly they're G to drop the you might and come straight for the M the way to go this is why I would vote you out first [Laughter] Michael well let's quickly move along to some of the missions because we haven't talked about them and I think definitely what a strong opening with the doll task right where you had to find like a severed limb of different parts of the doll like Juliet is this what Paul Henry is really likeing person I don't know if I'm allowed to tell you but I'm gonna say I know who wrote those missions oh okay so and I did not know what the missions were but I knew that they were gonna be good so yeah so great so funny yeah I felt really bad for Mark one I feel like this first two episodes just a poor Mark where he ran into like that bathroom with the legs clearly there he walks out and then someone immediately chicks right

33:38 After this whole confessional oh I looked where he found it straight away oh gosh but then straight afterwards you then had to find the eyeball and the upstairs and once again poor Mark like he's like oh I just got to check the pool table the only one to go check out the pool table I know that quite a few times Robbie in your season was pretty bad at challenges and that frustrated a lot of people to the point where they wanted to banish her let alone M Traer and then banish her was there any times like throughout your season where I mean I guess apart from Robbie where you saw someone was really bad at challenges and you're just like what's the point of them even being here not me personally because in my opinion yeah like the whole point is to build the kit the kitty but I also found that the missions to a degree were almost redundant as well like it was just a really good opportunity to let your hair down for a little bit and watch people watch how they interact so whether or not people were good or not strategically physically through missions I never saw it as a place where

34:58 I would go oh they're out of here they're hopeless because everybody has their strengths and also you know it could be strategy as well people could be playing certain ways for various reasons to give off that they could be hopeless or whatever just you never know there were so many Snakes in the Grass you know like our Barrel challenge I had no idea that was kind of you know Dan I think Dan and Brooke like controlled that without us knowing so there was always stuff going on so yeah I'm and I loved that an episode two challenge as well that was great yeah well I was just about to say it wasn't it wasn't like it wasn't real B bro you could see on them it was obviously like rubber or plastic or something okay wire something I loved as well and I know where from spoken about him yet but Joe I think is someon I think but how he's just calling through and he's like I don't know what I'm doing here I didn't sign up to craw through the mud crawl under some bar wire I come here to hunt some Traders and here I am but something that was pretty sneaky which I wish someone stepped on it

36:18 Was one of the landmines said that the Traders cloaks are green and what's interesting about that is that something I've noticed is that the Traders cloaks are always green across all the franchises so if you were to step on it's like oh obviously it would be green this time as well but obviously that'd be really suspicious if you did true yeah well I'm color blind yeah like I just took a gear I thought they were black yeah I think Sam could have probably gotten away with that one but anyone else I don't think they would have been able to but I did quite like the effects of the explosion as well and especially with Ben poor Ben when it just completely splattered everything under his goggles as well I feel like the goggles did nothing really help him but I was surprised that it wasn't just the one group Terry and who he did it with but it was also Whitney as well and whoever else like two different two separate pair both went for the shield that was surprising to me that it was not just the one and they like oh that's kind of dodgy CU as well like imagine you know they'd come up with that idea I'm going to get the shield

37:38 And then they see the first pair do it and everyone's reaction surely they'd be like oh they've kind of shot themselves in the foot maybe if I don't go for the shield I won't need to worry about it I won't need the shield kind of like this is already some cookery over here anyway you know I don't know but m will be I'm how far to us season 2 are you oh only a couple of episodes but already the difference between people getting the shields on the US version and people getting the shields on the New Zealand version are completely different and I'm confused as to why and Julia might be able to shine some light on this I feel like in the first season getting a shield wasn't you weren't the Pariah that you were in this season for running after a shield I mean can't most people understand that you'd want to get a shield and but yeah really it really robbed people the wrong way yeah I don't actually think that shields were introduced in the game into a little bit later for us no they weren't yeah right yeah it was about halfway through I think halfway through so it wasn't into the Armory yeah no the Armory yeah the Armory nobody was desperate yet you know and because

38:59 They didn't exist I guess we weren't thinking about them and then eventually as the game goes on you're starting to get more and more I don't know if desperate is the right word but you're paranoid right of course it's a benefit to hold on to it depending on how you're playing the game so yeah but sometimes I think it doesn't serve you too I think there was actually wasn't there a series where each person that got the shield ended up getting banished like it's a round T yeah that was your season was it that season yeah that's your season it may also be though you mentioned the paranoia like it could also just be that early on everyone's paranoid because it's a paranoid game but they don't have a lot to go off of yet because they've only been with these people for like a day or two so they'll kind of find a thing of why to banish somebody in anything so for example wanting to not be murdered by the Traders you know they'll be like oh I want to get killed tonight I'm going to banish them you know because they haven't really had a lot of time to develop a good reason to be paranoid of somebody so it could just be the nature of the game to be honest yeah but you know we do have AG agree the question of the night who's not using

40:20 The like I was going through the cast and I was like no oh guys I have to tell you he's not actually Paul Henry as Henry pul right it's back to front hey that's cool what a Twist yeah who do you guys think it could be who's not using the real name Mark bro I don't know there's a dude that's an actor maybe he's using a stage name maybe hang on I think it's Ben Maybe saw it in the little maybe dude should we place our bits like if one of us gets it right you know oh yeah somebody's on like a witness protection program or something that I surely they wouldn't delay to then it comes out with their real name is on the show they just have to completely change move country yeah because there was somebody like somebody's in the was in the Army he switch on oh yeah it was Uncle dude yeah Mark
