The Traitors USA: Season 2 Week 1 Review

1:33 At this stage I don't know it's possible and he's covered so many of the traitor shows that it wouldn't have felt right not to bring maky on board after covering Traders Australia Traders New Zealand and also Traders Canada so maky welcome back to the podcast it's been a while since we've been able to do this how you doing I'm doing so good and yeah I miss podcasting With You Chris it's been a while since I've had someone you know roast everything I do and say so I'm really excited to see what you bring you bring into tonight's podcast I believe I don't have to do anything you roast yourself half of the time when you're on the podcast to be honest so I'm just gonna play like Dan in this situation and sit back and let it play out basically monkey and I'll play like the peppermint you know I'll bring all the drama bring all the he and we'll just see what happens yeah it's sounds about right to me Kahuna how you're doing it's been a couple of days since the last time that we've been on a podcast together talking about the challenge what is it like watching a completely different show I'm dragging you with me onto all of these shows you can't get rid of me I mean this is the perfect show like we did Traders Australia and I love the format I love season one of us but to have a show where you've got like knowing that we do the challenge and we do Survivor to have pavy and Sandra and then bananas

2:54 And CT andelle it's a pretty big deal like as far as those two shows and the representation goes and as far as representation goes I'm just happy to be I don't know if you guys noticed this but it really feels like we're wearing a uniform tonight I like color coordinated we came color coordinated I was going to sayuna the challenge fans are not going to let you slide with that whole anra shell comment that you made there I know that they're going to come into the comment section and one of them is already here lovable Nikki very early in the morning over where lovable Nikki is at even like 4 or 5 a. in the morning welcome to live stream you're up you know what they say the early bird catches the worm and she has gotten all three of us here on the live this morning very different time and yeah like I'm just to be honest with both of you I'm just happy that we get to talk about the show and that we actually can fit it into the schedule because it has been a struggle this week to find a time slot that would mostly work for all of us and probably I'm the biggest culprit because how dare I have a full-time job that is keeping me busy at the moment and making it hard for us to podcast but I'm really happy that we've been able to come together so we can talk about this show and King Cooper Welcome to the live as well good to have you here must be early in the morning for you as well let us know I've seen you before in the lives I believe challenge

4:14 Lives but let us know what time it is over where you're at the moment Kahuna what's your thoughts what's your thoughts about this show you mentioned there we've got challenges on the show we've got survivors on the show for me being an OG Big Brother fan we've also got some of the before big brother for me became a water down version of what it used to be we also got some big brother Legends in this game so for me it's even better because I'm getting to see from all of those different sort of shows coming together Legends coming together yeah I mean I do love the overall idea of the Traders the format of the Traders and we do know as well that it struggles with there are flaws in the format it there's things that make it hard but I think when a show can overcome some of those flaws with casting with production with you know all the things that make a TV show great I think this is kind of doing that I do love the show and this season this season as well I think they're kind of I feel like it's gotten a bit bigger like the production value on the challenges seems so much like more grandiose and scale what's his name who's the Alan he's just turning it up to 11 which is you know it can be a little bit cringe he's a lot

5:36 I'm Roger over Allen Roger's the best one of all the international flavors I think but Allan's turning it up like he's just you see Traders New Zealand wa until you see tra New Zealand the first episode I was like who's this vog Paul Henry is an icon in New Zealand all right with a lot of controversy but that's why we love him yeah okay moving on for I'm in so far I love the season I was disappointed in the first outing because I thought he'd have such a good run he's such perfect TV but I mean so far the characters are stupendous and even though I don't have the background like you said with Dan and Janelle from Big Brother I can already see them being phenomenal characters and even the ones that I don't like or have no idea of fedra is phenomenal B is like a stereotypical script written like nerd that should not be on TV but he's a real person you just I feel like you just described wow no I was going to say you gave us a lot in that little synopsis of the show so far and what you're loving and we'll try and dive into a lot of this king cooper saying 2 a.m.

6:55 A bartender just got off work late well happy to have you here happy to entertain you straight after your work shift I know that sometimes when you go home you just want to sit back and relax and hopefully we can dive into a couple of great topics here on the challenge loveable Nikki said don't do this GAA Alan is the gy got crawler and Eli Gold Eli Gold from the good verse Good Wife and good fight I love Alan coming don't like don't I'm never gonna like but he's throwing fast balls he's throwing his hard like no I'm going to say loveable Nikki Kahuna has got deont like reads when it comes to characters sometimes on reality TV we both know it but that's why I love bringing him in sometimes so that I can just like go back and forth with him in his you know literally the only thing I would have in common with d wild yeah no but listen I do love Ellen I totally agree with love Nikki I think he's amazing as a host I love the little exchange between him and B in the beginning with bananas is like how does it feel being the second best dressed on the show it's such a bananas thing to do and I remember when bananas went home I'm going to stay with you for a little bit here kuna because you actually know who he is and we can definitely get maky to also add what he

8:15 Thinks about bananas but you know I feel like the producers must have been thinking to thems damn it like this is like the one person we don't want to lose in the first episode because bananas is so used to being on reality TV he's done so many cross over shows now as well you know there's one guy who almost acts like an extra producer on the show to create drama and fun moments and even how they went to him to explain the first mission when they were out on the water it just felt very challenge likee he's so natural at giving those confessionals and telling you narrating the story basically yeah he and he was he was the narrator of the first episode and I think they kind of obviously in the edit knowing that what was the outcome I think they tried to get as much juice out of him as they could because they did he was a very big character early on probably knowing that he was going to go but he is made for TV he's great at TV and yeah Allan going back off so good and he has that reper he can do that with people you know what I mean and not make it come across as like mean Spirit or whatever but they just have he can do that with people he's awesome at it and they would have been spewing that he wasn't there for sure morning Lena welcome to the live as while saying that bananas is great for TV maky what's your read on Ellen how do you feel are you as

9:35 Low on Ellen as Kahuna do you have that same read do you believe that he's bringing a bit of you know not much needed flare to the show I know you're a person you're cultured man you life love a bit of flare on reality TV what's your take on it I mean honestly I'm just glad that Kahuna's get the macki treatment are not me normally it's you two bashing on me but now it's bashing on K but doesn't watch The Challenge FS without telling me miky doesn't watch the challeng cuz I cough it miky don't worry man yeah know I really enjoy Alan and a lot of this cast and I know I said in know group chat a few days ago but I feel like the Traders show works best when you know who the players are right I feel like it's like the cast should always be somewhat of a celebrity or reality Stars cast because I feel like you can really get behind them they really bring that drama the three of us covered Traders Australia and for the first half or first quarter a lot went down because you had players like Luke who had already been in other reality shows but kind of after that it was just really dead a lot of people playing at safe no really wanted to do anything big but here we seen the first few episodes it like majority of the cast has done other reality shows before so they're willing to go above and beyond you know

10:55 Play Big you know make big moves I was shocked when lorisa went straight after Dan yeah in the third episode I was like wow like that's a great read and the fact that she was able to be like you know what she may not necessar get the votes for this but she's still going to throw it out there and still cast a vote for him whereas with just a normal cast you won't have that well you know what the biggest shock for me was in this first week and for those that are listening to this we're just going to jump all over the place with the first three episodes and different things that have happened and we're going to talk about some of the highlights things that sort of stood out for us in those three episodes because it's kind of hard to cover three episodes within an hour and a half but that's sort of I feel like the easiest way to talk about the highlights and feel free to throw things in the live if you're here if you want us to discuss it as well we will definitely bring it up like we always do the thing that stood out for me the most was that two people that I wouldn't necessarily have rated coming into the show they're not coming from a reality TV kind of background where it's all about backstabbing lying cheating playing the social politics type of game I guess the bachelor could be to a certain degree but I kind of always look down on them and those that do follow the nullified take Channel knows I'm not the biggest love show fan you know so if you want to put me through torture get me to watch one of those shows like love island or Bachelor I'm very impressed by Pete

12:15 I feel like Pete's come out of the Woodworks as someone that is actually using a strategy that we've not seen in traitors as of yet and maky I haven't watched Traders New Zealand so you can speak to if you've seen this strategy on Traders New Zealand but him and Kevin having that conversation prior to this last vote saying hey the way we keep ourselves in this game is by creating fake heat around us at each other which potentially will mean that the Traders will want to keep us in the game a bit longer I thought it was a very interesting angle that we haven't seen play out on the show yet and I didn't expect it to come from someone that didn't play in a competitive reality TV show if that makes sense well I mean as a fellow Bachelor myself I feel like you're really underestimating the strategy that goes behind all the Bachelors right you know they have to play all those poor beautiful women into thinking that they're going to be the special ones and then he'll cut them off after you know each episode and as we all know the relationships never last after the show anyway so he does eventually cut all of them off and I feel like yeah it's a strategy we haven't seen before Pete I feel like it was definitely a good idea to try and you know just vote for your number one Ally but I think the only issue is that it seemed like there was not much that was building up like I mean maybe it's just an edit I don't know but like it sort of felt like it came out of

13:35 Nowhere and everyone sort of like reactions were like what you get what I mean so it could potentially end up being interpreted as of just throwing a vote and there obviously such a traitor move you know not taking a specific a specific side so I thought Pete delivered it better when he was saying his reasons as to why he's going for Kevin and then obviously also tried to throw something at Kevin in that moment so maybe he's a little bit more insulated Kevin's one his reasoning sounded very strange like it almost felt like a non-reason and I don't think he delivered it as well as Pete I just want to say that those poor girls on The Bachelor they signed a contract that means that they have to be there for the long run I don't feel like they can just bail halfway through and they're like ah this guy's an absolute idiot they're paying some they're getting paid some good money to be there so I just I feel like The Bachelor if there's ever a reality TV show where they manufactur moments it's probably on that show you know instead of some of the shows that we've seen in the competitive realm but you know obviously like I said you know bananas's great player Great Character sad to see him go in that first episode it was funny to see him and CT as two of the best players to ever play on I think any kind of reality TV to see them again K back on the same show again was quite

14:56 Interesting you know and to see the reunion between a and a trell are you familiar with that history between CT and trell it sounds like it was something that happened in the early Seasons where my memory is a bit hazy on some of those early Seasons as I'm still catching up on challenge I guess law early Seasons the law yeah look after look I'm in my 40s Chris memories not what it used to be it used to be a steel trap now it's all rusty and there's a lot of a lot of seasons of reality TV sh in there I do know obviously I've watched all the seasons but I don't remember specifically any what happened Feud yeah we've got lovable Nikki and blood money andell was in a lot so I know I believe it when she said it I was like yeah she because she used to get in a lot of Fights Back in the Day in any case I got I got my cap on I love Shin so that's Star Wars for those who don't know Erin welcome to the live as well Blood Money welcome to the live saying hello to everyone Blood Money saying py versus Sandra ding ding so yep that's a another heavyweight obviously we spoke about p and Sandra both coming back this season I feel like the show's kind of they've hinted at a

16:16 Potential you know of poverty and Sandra both claiming to be the queen or wanting to be the queen of Survivor and now they get another opportunity to go after each other here but it's such a different game M like the on who comes out on top on this season does it really tell us anything about them and their legacy and Survivor will it actually affect the fans opinions like if py who's now a traitor does end up taking Sandra out of the game how much will this Elevate pver above Sandra in your mind when it comes to Survivor and the their legacy on that show yeah I think if she's like a Traer and she you know El eliminates Sandra or she you know eliminates Sandra while she's training Sandra's Faithful is not on equal footing right I feel like you would have to make Sandra a Trader so then they're both fully aware that each other Traders and then they go at each other then I guess you know you could have that actual question does this make py better player than Sandra if py does take out Sandra or Sandra b player you know etc but yeah you're right I feel like if you know if they're not on the same equal footing then it doesn't really relate to Survivor cuz it's really just a game about everyone's perception right cuz in surviv you've got like you know the threat levels and all that sort of stuff there's no really such thing as the threat level in Traders it's more so just are you

17:36 A traitor so it comes down to people think if you're a traiter or not yeah like I mean listen I've said it many of times on the show myself before that Traders is fun to watch I don't think I would want to play it and I stand by that decision it has not changed for me I'd much rather be a commentator enjoy the shenanigans I know that Kahuna and maky may be open to it in the future if the call came but for me I don't know if this is the kind of game that I would want to play because I feel like if you're not a Trader you're just at too much of a disadvantage in the game and the show is really there for us to almost make fun off or laugh at the expense of the faithfuls who get it so miserably wrong all the time like you kind of need to be on the side of the Traders almost throughout the show because the balance is so off in my mind and I agree with you if you know poverty were to win out over sand here it doesn't say anything about Survivor which is a different game it doesn't change the Legacy there Sandra will still be two championships in poverty will still have one Championship there will always be the debate about should py have won that season because you know a in a lot of fans Minds maybe mine as well I can see why people say this py played a lot more actively in that season compared to Sandra who had a very subtle under the radar sort of game and she was good at Jury

18:56 Manage managing at the end of the day and hary just got taken down on the ship because of who she was associated with in that game which could she have controlled it could she not have controlled it who knows but it doesn't change the history on Survivor for me in any case when it comes to this I do want to move yeah go for it I like to think of it not necessarily would impact their legacy on Survivor itself but their overall like you know like you know in the in the 90s there was this American football player named Dion Sanders right one of the greatest players but then he also in his spare time played professional baseball and wasn't as good at baseball and it didn't affect his legacy as a football player but it does sort of add to his tool bag as an overall awesome athlete like it's not his football Legacy so it's not necessarily Pav's Survivor Legacy it wasn't Si's Survivor Legacy but it's another notch on the thing it's another tool in the BT it's another feather in the cap that says this person's awesome at this type of show like they are an overall TV athlete you know what I mean rather than a like bananas has done a million shows now from cooking which doesn't add anything but you can say get him on a show like House of Villains and he goes deep because he knows how to play that game right and on this one

20:16 Goes out incredibly early pretty much because he was seen as such a threat right like you give power to someone like Dan he's not going to let someone of bananas's stature stay in the game Dan's a gamer he's Cutthroat you would have picked that up in the first couple of games and how he plays this game it's no emotion when it comes to it he'll make the most logical decision in the moment and I do want to come back to that and talk about how he's played so far was bananas the right move in my mind definitely was 100% the right move but I'm going to read a couple of comments here Erin says Sandra side eyes at P are amazing totally agree Lena says p is a good player however Sandra will always be the queen totally agree Lena Blood Money saying what do you think of John the ex politician from the UK and Blood Money very good question you're kind of leading where I wanted to go with this next question what are we thinking about the cast as a whole and let's start with John here he has a very big reaction when the Traders get selected and really struggles with the moment and the intensity of all of them being there taking this big gasp you know obviously saying he's got asthma and then in the very next he outruns people that are like half his age Kahuna on the show what is your thoughts about he's amazing

21:36 I love this bloke like he's just this is what I was saying like wild characters you heard it here first Kahuna has finally found a politician that he loves because believe me Kahuna does not like politicians in general it's probably because this guy's retired right Guna just he just is so exuberant like every confessional it sounds like he's just done a line in the bathroom he's so excited and then it really looked like it when he was in the CH just freaking run forest run he was just pumping like so into it like 110% effort it's like maximum effort I love that yeah I just want to bring up we can't bring up comments from Instagram as of yet so every now and again I will periodically look at Instagram live to see comments on their and there's a few people that have joined us on Instagram live as well blood money I can see you're in both we've got a couple of other people there cousin Cooper Welcome Chi chip or yup I should say nil Hills nil on there as well and then Sheldon was there Sheldon asking W sander and py work together on season 50 I don't think so I think especially on Survivor I think in Traders they can let bygones be bygones for a little bit depending on who the cast is as well like if they're

22:56 If maybe a couple of players from a sort of certain era in Survivor that are not being represented very well on the show it would be in their benefit to work together but if they are coming back at season 50 I just don't see them like they'll never be able to fully trust each other just like in this game I know Sandra and PTY know that they'll have to take each other out at some stage and I'm intrigued to see who's going to win out on this one obviously poverty has the advantage and if Sandra does take P out before P can take Sandra out that would be pretty impressive to see happen but I do want to move on from that conversation because we have spoken about Sandra and pav a bit already so Mar I'm going to move on from that conversation oh no it's completely different all right it's so as you all know I like to pick one player who I will go to B for and we'll die on the hill for right you know we had you know sneaky Steve sneaky Steve you know like legit right here sneaky Steve we had s from Traders Australia there's a new player this season and originally it was going to be John but then we get a confessional guys from a very special lady U is that how you say her name y did you know that in her confessional she said that she believes in Aliens and conspiracy theories so therefore there's a chance she believes in big

25:37 Girl H he would have been the perfect for a trainer well while we're on the subject so obviously you know maky has now picked his new player that he hasn't seen play before that he really likes Kahuna who's the player that maybe coming into this show that you are backing all the way a player that you weren't famar with prior to coming into the show like who's standing out for you who's popping Pedra is awesome man like I think the it's almost like a meta reverse switch thing where it's like she's not from the background of competition reality so you think she's not going to be good at it but because she's not going to be good at it she's so good at it and blends in and no one suspects her and she can kind of just stand back and watch and then make a little quippy comments which I love everying one of them so like she's a fun character and I didn't know Janelle but she seems pretty great as well I think she's going to be a force to be reckoned with on the season too yeah listen Janelle is a force to be reckoned with and she's someone that does not hold back you know I think we'll talk about her a little bit later on when we talk about those Shield grabs and things like that she's won more Shields than anybody else in fact let's talk about it you know she's won two shields so far and she's playing really aggressive m in your mind smart move

26:57 Dumb move are you thinking that this is going to play off for her in the long R where people are going to think she definitely isn't a Traer because why is she sort of risking her game to this level where she's pushing for Shields every single time how do you think this plays out in the long run because some players may look at that as saying ah she's being very selfish in these daily challenges or the missions yeah it's I mean it's simply a thing where it's like if this was a all newb cast they' be trying to banish it right but it's because there's an all is an Allstar cast and everyone coming into this has got a reputation has got a background right you know like everyone's kind of aware of none of them know it though none of them know each other's backgrounds it seems oh true oh yeah there was it one was it with Kev where someone was like oh yeah that's bananas he's been on the like that what challenge challeng the challenge the challenge yeah but I feel like in terms of grabbing a bunch of different Shields everyone knows that like you this is a competitive game right like you fight for your life whether if you're a Traer or a faithful you're trying to secure the shield so I don't think people are thinking too much about it whereas if this was an all newbie cast I feel like they were trying to read into that too much but since it's an Allstar cast I don't think it's always such a dangerous meta and a balance that you walk

28:17 Because if you go too hard if that works Chris if you say if you successfully go after Shields to the point where they won't think you're a traiter then the Traders go person has no chance of ever being banished then we kill them you know what I mean like it's you go one to Too Much the other way and yeah you're always in danger from being banished by the group or being murdered by a traitor that's why I say this game is so freaking hard to play you say too much you get in trouble you say too little you get in trouble you have trouble breathing you get in trouble you know you just stare at somebody theong way you get in trouble in this game so it's really hard to like formulate a game plan that is going to keep you off people's or out of people's mouths basically when it comes to banishment and like you said if there's no way that you're a Trader if the Traders think that you're playing two hard for these shields nobody's going to think you're a Trader they could also get rid of you I do think that Janelle has somewhat of an ally in Dan I don't think he will be taking a swipe at her very early on he's probably looking at her as a number that he can utilize within the game they have played Big Brother together they're both Legends of the game there is a certain of respect between the two of them I don't think there is much bad blood even though he voted out Dan is just such a smooth charmer that he can do that kind of thing and get away with it and people will still not

29:37 Feel bad or betrayed by him especially in that big brother realm I guess he didn't you know he won the first time and he got second the second time he got the Russell Hans treatment where people said he played too hard to get to the end and they didn't end up voting for him he should have been a two-time winner he dominated both seasons that he played and for most people just coming into the show there is no bigger sort of I think reputation than Dan Sandra py bananas and CTI those are all legends of their shows that are playing this show and we spoke about that in the preseason and in my mind Dan is right freaking up there I was a little bit surprised that he was picked as a Trader but we'll talk about that in a second it's the right decision to make him a Trader because you don't bring somebody back from retirement after 10 years when they said they'll never do reality TV again without making them a Trader and not a part of the main show but I do want to come back to love n's comment because I don't want to move on from fedra 100% as of yet loveable Nikki is saying production definitely watch Real Housewives of Atlanta I believe that is fedra is the perfect perk she's my person as well ker she's knocked me out of my freaking socks coming into this I might even go watch some real housewives of Atlanta just and that's a F stretch for me just to watch her in her El because she is bloody good with these onliners these confessionals she kind of reminds me a little bit of if

30:57 They had Annabelle on last season and they actually made her a Traer which is what they should have done I think the season would have been very interesting and I'm glad that they picked I thought it was a stellar pick across the board what do we think about the format of them picking two Traders and then the two Traders having and in fact let's talk about Dan because I teased it a little bit I've watched Dan I'm a fanboy I know he's one of the best to ever play reality TV what's your thoughts M of Dan as a game player coming into this show so far what has been your observ as a new fan or a new sort of I guess viewer that is seeing him play a reality TV competitive show yeah I really like him he's actually very similar to Dan Singh who played in Traders New Zealand which is very quiet very methodical and also very cut throw I can see Dan potentially cutting both p and fedra just to keep him like you know one more vote in the game essentially and yeah I really like what he's bringing so far he did cop a little bit of heat in the last banishment though and I'm a bit worried if there isn't a new drama that stirs up pretty soon maybe he might be the first Traer out and I do want to add to that for people who are not aware of Dan's Legacy and where Dan comes from he is notorious for not having had smooth rides in

32:17 Both of the seasons that he got to the end and for people trying to get him out of the house and all signs show to him being the next person out of the house and then finding a way to stay in the game because of his IC mind he's an out of the box kind of thinker and I do believe maku hitting the nail on the head if he can throw a p or a fedra under the bus so that he can look like more of a Trader Hunter rather than somebody that is the Traer I think he would do it I think it's going to be very hard for him to win this game because anybody that knows his legacy would know that he is capable enough of being an excellent Trader and I'm kind of shocked that more people haven't caught on to it even episode one Janelle for instance I'm surprised that she's not noticing that he like he's always been reserved he's always been Cal in his approach but I'm surprised she's not noticing that he's really not all that much involved in the strategy talk I feel like she should be able to see the difference because she's played the game with him before she's been an alliances with him before she must notice differences surely from one game to the other and how he's approaching this at this stage and there's been no talk about that and maybe conversations have happened between the two of them that we're just not privy to the edit is not showing us but I do want to emphasize that on two seasons the first season he played his ride or die the person he thought he was going to go to the end to got voted out first in the first season he ever played and he was at the bottom potentially
